So you remember like just under a decade ago every single young artist was desperate for Copic markers?
Now the new generator is desperate for Posca markers instead. Feel old?

Hay :D
Can you tell us what do you use to color your drawings on traditional? I need some tips •́  ‿ ,•̀
why hello!! Sorry for such a late answer!!
so, I’m a fun little something we call ✨inconsistent✨(sigh) so while I may not be the best person to ask…but here’s things I commonly use color wise (favored art supply dump)
Alchohol ink markers
I use these most, they are a beautiful thing, my favorite are Ohuhu as they are high quality and a much lower price then brands such as Copic. (Can you taste the salt.)
They have less blend ability in comparison to Copic but are overall a much better investment if you ask me! They are great for a more smooth look! Another one I have around that I use for less saturated colors is touch youch youch
I very much prefer brush pens over the chiseled ones, for a paint like experience, and more dynamic application! Again these are just personal preference!
(I have a bad habit of opening ink capsules and painting with ink. I would not necessarily recommend this.)
Watercolor
There’s lots of pretty nice watercolor you can get for a pretty cheap price! The ones I prefer currently are MeiLiang, I got them online for a good price and they are very nice!
That said I do mix around different brands and such, whatever is on hand.
Gel pens
I love gel pens, even if you just have like one or two it’s such a difference!! I love just having white ones for adding little details and such to drawings! You can also get colors if you like! I use the Jellyrollers!
Colored pencils
a lot of people hate colored pencils which I get, but I find them very helpful for detailing (when I have motivation to do so lol) I often use them on top of drawings I’ve layed down a base of alcohol ink with! That way it has a clean base and can add the fun texture and stuff afterwards!! Those smooth looks can be achieved with pencils alone, I often just don’t have time for that :) it’s very fun though, layering is key with pencils
I do very much enjoy prismicolor colored pencils!!! It’s an investment I don’t regret lol, although I’m sure any soft core colored pencils would have the same effect!!
Posca
occasionally I use posca markers for large poster sized drawings, esp for the ink capsules. I like the paint coverage!! That said they can be a pain to work with.
it’s probably not good to be like me and use all of this on sketch paper. (I know. I’m aware that that is psychotic.) but I do normally use sketch paper, getting some multi medium paper might be good if you are interested in paints inks and pencils though, that way you can use it for all of the above :))
Color wise that’s what I commonly mix and match with, when it comes to pens my FAVORITE pens to sketch or do lineart with are Tombow calligraphy pens. Simple brush pens, it makes detailing harder but I enjoy the dynamics. There’s lots of micro pens you can find for small details as well!! I also prefer to use mechanical pencils for sketching, simply because the mechanical lead stays thin and sharp instead of getting dull. That said, I use very cheap mechanical pencils, and sometimes you need a full pencil depending on the project.
There’s a little mini rant on the art supplies I use color wise, again these are just my preferences from what I’ve tried!! I’m by no means a professional haha, i very much experiment and make a mess of things!
Traditional art can become…quite the investment. Especially when it comes to buying all of the art supplies as your resources dwindle. I have to buy new art supplies much more often than I’d like to admit.
All that said, I am a firm believer of art being able to be formed from any medium!! >:D
be it a simple 2b pencil, a ballpoint pen, or crayons products, I think anything can be used to make something really pretty :))
Only real advice I have is don’t be scared to mix and match, get messy, and experiment!! Do whatever’s most fun, and don’t think you can’t make something great from something simple!! There’s no real rules. Only techniques and suggestions. It can be daunting because there’s no undo button in traditional art, but I think that’s a really good way to expand your abilities :0 it teaches you to roll with mess ups and learn how to work with them!!
Most importantly, let yourself learn from others, but NEVER let people force how you use your supplies, don’t be scared to beat them up if that’s what you need (the art supplies not the people.), and don’t think you need the fanciest things to make nice things >:D
if you want more specific tips and such feel free to ask, I’ll do my best to answer :,)

Whats your fav art medium to work with and least fave
hiii ^_^
tbh I work pretty mixed media these days but most waterbased or watermixable paints are my fave: esp inks and concentrated watercolors. inks just allow for this intense saturation but also crystal clear translucent state that I love. Watercolors tend to get kind of milky from time to time so inks allow for a really consistant lack of opacity that I really like working with. They also have more specialized color ranges than watercolors. It’s been not super easy for me to find flourescent watercolors that pack the punch I want them to (and i’ve tried a lot of brands) but acrylic inks are pretty consistant at having the colors i want. Concentrated watercolors are called that but they’re really more like semipermenant inks. They’re dye based, so they stain paper super fast, but you can still lift them a bit so painting with them tends to be in thin layers on top of eachother, which is very good for me. I would compare the finish similar to alchohol markers? but i find it easier to blend since its a painting medium. You’re supposed to water them down very intensly, and i often do, but sometimes I do apply them straight out the bottle for an added punch. I’ve been working with gouache recently as well, and I work with it the way that people tend not to reccomend. That is, in thin transparent layers rather than flat planes. I just prefer painting that way, It works a lot better for me.
As for least favorite, ugh its probably something sculptural to be honest.. i really hated working with plaster and i really can’t stand working in a shop.. But in terms of 2d media, I have a very notorious issue with charcoal. It’s just very much not made more the way I work. I lift it too fast, smudge with it, my line darkness varies too much with different papers and types and even just individual sticks.. I really try, I do, but i cannot believe when I see someone draw with charcoal without smearing and smudging it everywhere. It’s just not possible for me! I still work with it several times a week, though. It’s kinda crucial to in art school, I’m not allowed to use other media in some classes. I’m just much more of a painter at heart. I’ve spent a lot of time with media that I felt would fit my graphic style better, markers and digital, but i’ve had a soft spot for watercolors since i was a kid. I always loved how unforgiving they were, they force you to work within their means, so you have to work slow and build your way up, I always really respected that. I like things to be finished. I can’t do anything else when i’m done with them, I have to stop, I have no choice. I’m just not allowed that with dry media or opaque paints. With charcoal, everytime i feel close I seem to have smudged something else and have to redo it.
That was pretty long winded but I have a lot of thoughts about my artistic process and how I like to work.

✦Introduction Post✦
They/Them -- Genderfluid -- OC/Fandom Artist I primarily make art as a way to spend my time, mainly of my ocs but I do fandom stuff too! My favorite mediums are digital art, pen and ink, watercolors, alchohol markers, but I also dabble in animation and writing. My ettiquite for this platform might be a bit off, I have basically been lurking for years now but I plan to be far more active soon!
Tumblr media
read below the cut for more or check out my carrd!
Still here? Very cool😼 In my posts I might refence some things that particularly interest me such as media and music, so here are some comprehensive lists of those things! Fandoms: Genshin Impact, Good Omens, Obey Me!, Arcane, Deathnote, Dr. Stone, TLOU, JJK, CSM, Inside Job, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and horror movies/content in general. Music: Frank Sinatra, I Monster, Tally Hall, Mirical Musical, They Might Be Giants, and Will Wood. Apart from what I enjoy, I also make my own things as mentioned earlier! I have a handful of universes that are fully flegded out with worldbuilding that I will detail on in a later post. With my own original characters, I also have ocs based in some of the fandoms i'm part of. I'm cool with any and all comments, questions, or requests, don't be shy! I won't make this too long, everything here may be in for change later on and I'm sure I have forgotten plenty of things. Thank you for reading this far!

Hyde again! I have been drawing him so much lately. I can’t help it, his hair is so much fun. THis time, he’s wearing a sticky note crown based on one I made for my sister! I made a mistake with shading his skin, so he’s kinda tan here.
Also, I love doing the background thing now. I’m back into using alchohol markers.

June Part 2
Along with comparing clays for the base, I compared shrink plastics as well. Lotura was made with the named brand Ruff n Ready Shrinky Dinks and Sheith was with a off brand I found on Amazon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laying down they both look pretty opaque and the smudging on Keith's face was actually due to poor judgment on my part. I colored is hair first instead of his skin so the black got picked up a little. But over all they looked good and I went foward, filling the domes with two different liquids; Sheith with baby oil and Lotura with a mix of distilled water and vegetable glycerin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the opacity here. Sheith still looks pretty solid, but Lotura looks a little transparent. In terms of function Sheith works amazingly, but I might have goofed and added a tad too much glycerin to the Lotura one as the glitter just sticks instead of floats. It's also worth noting that this was where I learned that micro glitter isn't good for this project as it just seems to vanish in the water. So of these two my results were;
The air dry clay worked just as well as the apoxie, if not better since it dried the Mod Podge well before the apoxie
The off brand seemed to give better coverage of the colors with no transparency.
Distilled water and vegetable glycerin wasnt as clear as the baby oil, but in terms of making multiple domes it was worth the money as 20z bottle of baby oil would only net you one dome. Due to my error it was worth doing again.
Uh... keep that last remark in mind for a post later...
I had one more experiment in mid before I decided on a third dome and that was coming back to markers. I really wanted to get them to work so I thought, "what if I baked the lines first and then color it once it's out?" It would stop the desaturation of colors which would be a plus and I could blend colors. Permanent markers worked so this should in theory work well, right?
Tumblr media
It's always my OCs that get messed up lol Sorry, Sora... I colored the back drop pieces with permanent marker so it should have been set once it was baked, but the alchohol ink reacted to it and it bled into the places it shouldn't have. I saw something somewhere that said to use the not frosted/treated side for ink so take two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I opted to use Yorak from my Monsters and Mana fic. The colors went down very strangely and oddly bright, but look at the treated side. It's all blurry, so no don't use the smooth side if you want something double sided.
So with me saying nope to inks I started on my third dome dedicated to 2 if my favorite characters; Zack and Aerith from FFVII.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main reasoning behind using these two aside for my love for them was the question; "can I dye the water?" I tried different ways via dye and a dolip of paint with food coloring winning out. I made a small base out of resin and I love the way it turned out.
Tumblr media
Next month I would find out if I did this justice.

Yoomon (as in human Idk what his name is)
Based off of a scene from Homesick on Webtoon. It's a very good series I highly recommend :D. Also my first time really drawing a cat and someone who's blond (????). Ignore the words at the top the only sketchbook I could find was a prompt thing.
Pencil, alchohol markers, Sakura ink pens, white gell ballpoint pen.

Other Schoolwork Art
These peices of art are here because they do not fit into the other categories of my portfolio.
Tumblr media
A small experimental watercolour peice! This was from my year 12 mythology project, and was drawn with no observational imagery (just from my head).
Tumblr media
This is a mixed media peice I made using oil pastel pencils, highlighter, watercolour pencils, alchohol marker, white gel pen and eyeliner (I was beginning to experiment with unconventional art supplies). This peice is from my Year 12 project on Metal music and metalhead subculture, so was based on a Mastodon album cover.

A FELLOW DRAGON!!!! OMG!!!!
How do you organize your hoard if you have one?
What's your dragon diet btw?
MEHWHWHEHH so glad you asked! Hiiiiii dragon high five.
Ok so on tumblr my fave's tag is actually #dragon's hoard and tumblr isnt organized but i also have a collection of trinkets at home that I call the bone zone (because theres bones in it) and i try to arrange it by similar types of objects (crystals in one area) or similar origins (barnacle encrusted lightbulb, tiny crab, and tiny horshoe crab molt are all together because i got them at the same beach). I also just got a ton of markers and pencils recently that Im putting into bottles and jars in order to hold em and those are organized by color and type of marker (watercolor marker vs alchohol marker vs colored pencil). I like sorting my hoards a lot and grouping likes together, which is why little jars and bottles are so important because it stays so much more organized.
Here'sthe old bonezone picture! As well as my fancy sewing cart that is full of nice thread and colors

Dragon diet... i'll eat most anything but I'm trying to balance a little more now but i am always down for a nice hot potato-based diet. I prefer food to be hot unless im specifically eating it for enrichment (frozen mango) or its a snack food like a cracker. But hot food is so much better.

«i have...not heard of half those brands lmao. how are the non-copics? any of them you think are particularly worth trying to acquire? i am always seeking to expand my marker collection, and i am but a Poor Walmart Employee who has relied upon the generosity of others to attain most of my current marker collection.»
«why are copics so expensive sob.»
