Alison Schumacher
Thoughts: she deserves all the flowers and all the shinny things. She works so hard.

Skate Canada Ladies Pt. 1
Welcome everyone to this week’s Grand Prix event. This weekend we’re in the beautiful country of Canada and we continue to debut the dominating Russian skaters while seeing the season debut’s of seasoned vets like Gabrielle Daleman.
So let’s start with the ladies today, shall we?
Serafima Sakhanovich is the first of three Russians this week. I seem to remember her name last year but I could be wrong. Interesting opening choroeography. She seems a little tight going into these jumps. I like the music. It’s different and interesting. I almost feel bad for the Russians who aren’t the junior now elite jumping girls. They had a bigger struggle than anyone to be relevant. That said, this is an interesting program. My only complaint is like most of the Russian skaters, she needs to sell it. Not a bad start really.
Alicia Pineault is the first Canadian. I like this short program on her. It has interesting choroeography and she seems into it. What a cute program. She wasn’t the top Canadian lady last year but I can see potential in her and her program is unique and different. Interesting she is lower than Serafima. I felt her program had more presentation than Serafima.
Veronik Mallet is the first of I believe two competitors from last week. I enjoyed her skating last week so let’s see how she does this week. I enjoyed her skating last week and find her very pleasant. I should mention that I love that she went back to the 80s for this song. Such a classic. Not her best performance this week, but she has such a pleasant presence on the ice, you can’t help but to like her.
Young You is new this year, I think. I don’t remember her last year. The first Romeo and Juliet of the year and it’s the soundtrack to the 1998 version. I have to admit, I like the score she’s using. She landed her triple axel and is very happy. Well, she’s got the jumps. Very lovely performance so far. She could use just a little more flow and refinement, perhaps a little more connection. That said, I like it. It’s dramatic and fast. She’ll be one to watch this year, look at that tech score! Very nice and good for her.
Marin Honda was a breakout last year. I love her dress and gloves. Oh, interesting song to skate to. She seems ready, look at that smile. She’s got a lot of speed and a lot of personality. This will be a great program when she settles into it more (I say that a lot early in the season, don’t I?). Not her best performance but she’s a joy to watch. She doubled a triple and that’s not good in the short. Not great for her start in the Gran Prix though.
Gabrielle Daleman returns to the Grand Prix and I’m pretty excited. I enjoyed her programs last year and I’m excited to see what she can do this year. Gabrielle is one of the few, I think, that can skate to a number like this. It’s a more grown up program. She’s landing her jumps as well and I’m thrilled to see that. She struggled after the Olympics, but she seems to have found her strength. She’s happy with it. Good for her. She must have been nervous. She’s in 2nd. A good start for her.

My Thoughts on Skate Canada 2018 (Ladies Short Program)
i ADORE alicia pineault’s amy winehouse short program. it’s same song throughtout but she manages to make each section so different from each other but still a cohesive package
i still keep thinking mariah bell is anna capellini but wow that was a nice expressive program from her
i really want to like mako yamashita’s program because she’s such a lovely skater, but i’m just thrown off by her music choice
zhenya smiling on the step sequence is what i’m going to focus on because i hate seeing her so upset. her components looked great but just give the coach transition more time. poor girl’s under a lot of stress. it’s going to make her fight that much harder during the free though
wakaba constantly surprises me. she looked tired during the practice but she did amazing here. I LOVE SEEING HER THRIVE. (love the music choice too)
A CLEAN TRIPLE AXEL AND A CLEAN ELIZAVETA TUKTAMYSHEVA EVERYONE! assassin’s tango is right because liza came for blood and i’m ready for her rise back to the top

Canadian Championships: Alicia Pineault finishes fourth
Canadian Championships: Alicia Pineault finishes fourth
[ad_1]
Figure skater Alicia Pineault finished at the bottom of the podium at the 2020 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships held in Mississauga, Ontario from January 13-19. The Varennes athlete was temporarily in first place after running the short program, with a score of 63.15. The long program dropped him to fourth with 102.62 for a cumulative 165.77 points. Her…

Personal recap 4CC 2020 - Ladies FS
Once again a recap only for the last two groups in the order of appearance. And I am always biased for Team Japan and yeah scoring is wack, not gonna comment much on that.
Lovely performance by Alicia Pineault. Not the highest of technical abilities, but her jumps look nice and she is beautiful to watch. Will we see her at Worlds? I think she got the minimum technical marks.
There is a elegance about Hongyi Chen that I like. She is really tall for a skater. She has great flexibility and a lovely costume. Just the program is really bland, the music is not really doing her favors to have something to interpretate. It's nice but nothing special and kinda boring.
Yelim Kim is my fairy! She is beautiful to watch! And the costume is really breathtaking live! 😍 A clean program on homeground ice! 👏👏👏👏(just I don't know why "Lovestory" is so much used for Korean skaters, it's a lovely crafted program for Yelim, but it's also not as engaging either even though the home crowd really went along. I like her SP better.) Awww she looked really relieved with her score and finally a smile broke through! Congrats on breaking 200! 🎉
Amber Glenn what happened to your Axels? The fall on the last jumping pass was unfortunate. She covered some errors pretty well before. She really skates her heart out while performing and that's what really draws me into her skating. She looked really shocked at her score. It still was a good effort, so congrats on the season best!
Karen Chen was clean (some URs aside) ! 👏What a great program! I am so happy to see her deliver so greatly. I missed her wonderful spirals and charisma! I have rarely seen her so confident in her jumps. Welcome back Karen! 😊
You rarely find someone as beautiful and full of natural charisma as Eunsoo Lim. Sadly this season isn't working in her favor. I am sorry she didn't make it to Worlds. Beside the fall it was a beautiful performance!
Wakaba Higuchi went for the 3A! Doesn't matter that it was a fall, but she had the guts to try. She is a powerhouse. She never has dull or uninteresting programs. I think her performance lighted up towards the end a lot. Not a bad program even though there were some errors. Well done! 👍
Kaori Sakamoto that was a rollercoaster, an up and down program, but bruh what guts to try the 4T (that I don't think is ready at this point). But I just love that program, she is the only skater today that gave me goosebumps! She is always a delight to watch! ❤️ Wishing better luck next time. 5th place is an ok result with those mistakes.
It's not a secret that I am not a fan of Bradie Tennell's skating, but she deserved her place here. She delivered when it counted. And I do think that she improved a lot in her presentation. (Not as much as judges want to make me buy though...ugh)Contrary to the SP I am not a fan of that program, it's nice but nothing special. Still congrats Bradie!
Young You was amazing! CLEAN! Great 3A!👏Congrats! 🎉
I like her, my problem is the program. That's not much her fault as my own fault for absolutely hating "Don't cry for me Argentina". And I think she needs a bit more emotion for her program. The movements are there, just the expression needs a bit more. But that is nitpicky considering she is only 15 years old!
Rika Kihira was magical in her own way! ❤️ Congrats on your 2nd 4CC title! 🥇 🎉🎉🎉
What a way to rack up the missed 3A points. Wow! So glad the 3Lz is back! And I really love the program by now. And the best PCS too! 😍 (edit: just realized that Bradie and Rika had the almost same PCS😑) (Almost a season best with a missed 3A tell you how much she was downplayed by judges the whole season 😑)
Enjoyable free skate by the ladies. Thank you!
Sadly the winner interview does nothing for me, an English translation would have been nice 😒
Just a word about the commentator: I think he doesn't add much to my knowledge of the sport, but he is nice and relatively neutral to everyone (ofc some bias is always there but not as badly biased as some others are) and doesn't talk too much. I think for ppl not familiar with the sport, it's fine enough. Just yes we know what we are watching, we don't have to hear that repeatedly all the time. And is that such a weird concept that ppl cheer for skaters not of their nationality?
Tumblr media
On a sidenote I was extremely thrilled that Yuna Kim handed out the medals! I always love to see her! ❤️

How did the Canadian ladies do? Should I be stressed about their showing at worlds after this? I saw the results but haven’t able to watch
Well, I think Alicia Pineault guaranteed her trip to Worlds, she was by far the best here and finished 10th. Emily Bausback did pretty poorly I’m afraid and finished 15th. She also needed to get the TES minimum in the SP for Worlds which she, unfortunately, was unable to do. I assume she’ll go to JW instead. Alison Schumacher finished 14th and I think she’ll go to Worlds since she has the minimum and did slightly better than Bausback here. But yeah, Canada will go down to one spot in ladies for Worlds 2021.

2022 Canadian Nationals Entry #25
I tried turning on the commentators just because I was bored. It only took maybe a half hour before I wanted to smack Ted Barton with a rolling pin.
Senior women short program
Jennyfer Labelle
Thoughts: She does try to fight for this program. And I liked her spiral.
Katherine Spence
Thoughts: I liked her hairdo
Alicia Pineault
Thoughts: I’ve only seen her a handful of times. Five, maybe. I think this is the first outfit of hers that I’ve really liked.
Lia Pereria
Thoughts: that fall on the triple toe. That was scary. Be careful.
Veronik Mallet
Thoughts: miss Canadian showstopper, making a bid for the “age don’t mean shit” club. Well done.
Amanda Tobin
Thoughts: I get drawn to some of her outfits. There was a really pretty pink sparkly dress, a few seasons ago that drew me to her. But this purple number is a no for me.
Gabrielle Daleman
Thoughts: I love her hairstyle. And she has a gorgeous smile.
Madeline Schizas
Thoughts: I am still kind of figuring her out. I liked some parts of this program. But I’m not sure what my full impression of her is yet.

Skate Canada Ladies LP Pt. 1
What’s up everyone? So I’m a few days late with my recaps of the long programs and I’m sure everyone knows the results but I want to do these anyway. I hurt my back on Sunday and couldn’t sit at the computer for a couple of days. Grand Prix France starts Friday and I’ll try to have those up faster. At least baseball will be over (noooooo) so I can devote my time to figure skating.
Anyway, on to the ladies’ long programs!
Veronik Mallet starts us off. She may not be the best Canada has but there is something very pleasant about her skating. She starts with a bad fall but lands her next combo. Is it bad when you fall on cue with the music? This was not her competition, but I love that she has a smile through the whole program. I hope she does better at the Canadian Nationals.
Marin Honda is next, skating to La La Land. She’s wearing quite a lovely shade of blue. She’s on tonight. This is a nice program, nice choreography that matches the change in the tempo of the music. She looks a little uncertain at times bbut I think that could be because it’s still early in the season. She doesn’t have the jumping firepower the other women will have but I’m wondering if she’s injured. She has a large wrap on her landing leg. This program has a lot of potential to be great this season. She did well and has a lovely smile. She’s happy with her performance and she should be.
Alicia Pineault wants to do better than her short. She’s got a lot of power in her jumps. I’m a little bored by this program. It’s interesting music, just nothing about her performance is holding my attention right now. It’ll be interesting to see it a little later in the season. It wasn’t a bad performance though. Not at all. Just a few bobbles on the jumps.
I enjoyed Alexia Paganini’s short program. Her long is a tango. Tango’s are hard to do, I think, because you have to exude a certain something, confidence to make it believable. She landed hard on her first jump, you could hear her leg hit the ice. She’s tight on this performance. Not quite selling it. I liked her short better, this program just doesn’t fit her style. She’s not happy with that. A season’s best but she’ll fall in the rankings. Marin remains in first.
Serafima Sakhanovch has one of the cutest costumes so far this season. I don’t know the music so I can’t say how well it fits, but it’s lovely. She gets high on her jumps. Singled an axel. This music fits her, I think. Kind of a classic 1940s style that works with her dance ability. There needs to be more transitions, though. She’s got the arms above the head mostly down but not quite the full presentation. This music is dramatic, very old school. I love it. She’s spins really fast. Well, that was fun to watch. I really like that program.
Yelim Kim impressed me in the short. She seems a little tight on the first jump. Oh my! That was a bad fall right into the boards. And she comes back with a solid triple loop. I don’t think she’s quite settled into this program. It’s very dramatic and she’s not projecting that. That said, she’s got a lot of potential to be really good. She just needs a little more refinement, I think. But a lovely skater overall. And Marin will remain in first.
On to group 2!
