i think it's time for me to make a post about a light in the mist, wayyy too late

my favorite utmost beautiful scene? not bristlefrost's death, not grayfire renunion (gotta admit those had a little kick to them), but firestar!! my baby!! ur back!!

just. firestar pov!! oh my gosh!! i missed him 😭

but but but my fav firestar scene in the whole book? him being absolutely ready to fucking BODY ashfur. ash starts rambling and talking shit about squilf? bro firestar was ready to fuckinh GO. rootspring noticing that the goddamn stars flicker in fire's pelt at that shit? had me like 😐😧😨 WOAGHHH dude was ready to box a cat who's managed possession over his kid and im like go fireboy go!! destroy that weirdo!! squirrel wasnt there to defend herself, which she absolutely can do, so her dad was gonna take him out in her defense. i really wish she would've been there because the firefam has my heart but i'll take what i can get

shadowsight had literally the most unsatisfying end to his arc ever if i got to the point where my own father believed he had to evacuate me to stop the people ive nearly gotten myself killed trying to help multiple times from murdering me and i barely even got a “sorry about that” after literally going to hell for them i would just start killing people for fun

mothwing being rude to shadowsight wasn't out of character and it wasn't an unforgivable crime. not only did she apologise, she gave a very genuine and in-depth explanation for her feelings and behaviour and it's a disservice to her character to write it off as inconsistent writing. she was deemed a sinner and exiled from her home, watching her worst fears about the clans unravel: blind devotion to the dead causing harm to the living. that's very mothwing! she's not perfect, she just needed a cat to blame and she says exactly that. and her apologising to and comforting shadowsight at the end of alitm is also very mothwing. they have a very awkwardly sweet relationship currently as the only medicine cats with no connection in starclan and with mothwing constantly ending up as a refugee in shadowclan's camp. it's fun! we don't need to act like mothwing was temporarily possessed the one time she acted slightly mean. and shadowsight was young but he was definitely not a teenager or teen coded by then, he was older than splashstar is right now. let mothwing have emotions without it being a crime

hollyleaf should have gone to the dark forest for killing ashfur and tragically stayed there while he got to go to starclan because technically he never killed anybody. UNTIL the broken code where holly would be the one to double kill him and change starclan's stupid arbitrary rules to allow cats like juniperclaw to go to starclan. and she'd also play the biggest part in reshaping the warrior code at the end to ensure no cat has to suffer like she and her family ever again. is this anything .idk im definitely biased because i love hollyleaf but why wasn't she featured at all in alitm :( she gets ONE mention and it's ashfur holding a grudge and calling her a murderer. my hollyleaf would not have forgiven him... she would have been at the frontline of the df battle ready to tear him to shreds for torturing her mom

a few days ago i had the idea of a hypothetical rewrite of tbc where instead of rootspring existing at all tree was just part of the pov roster for at least half the arc if not all of it. the arc loses a bit of its ‘stupid kids trying to solve a ghost mystery’ charm but rootspring is made so painfully redundant by his own dad in terms of taking action in the plot and his romance with bristlefrost is very fucking nothing. like i think a tree pov would work nicely following avos’ very sudden introduction of him and you have a very easy arc set out for him like Yuuuup this guy who’s very passive and hardly doing his job becoming a bit more hardened in the face of a catastrophe that affects him ie the ghosts. and i think if instead of the somewhat abysmal pacing of tpons and alitm with 3 characters hopping in and out of the dark forest they just had shadowsight and bristlefrost exploring the area slowly while tree kind of just runs errands and operates as a camera in the living world that’s got a bit more meat on the bone. if he’s even really needed by the back half of the arc like even just cutting the perspectives down by one would be great. uhhh and i think focusing on bristlefrost and shadowsight as foils to one another with their people-pleasing and it getting them into trouble/high esteem simultaneously would be way stronger than ???? whatever rootspring talked about with either of them. you can even do a dovewing-ivypool parallel thing for that big nostalgia. and considering how the tbc trio has such a weak bond outside of certain pairs i think replacing rootspring’s nothingburger relationships with tree applying himself as like. a defensive authority figure to these way more vulnerable kids would both be a more interesting dynamic and also yet again accelerate his arc into a ‘oh i have to do things for others even if they don’t affect me’ type ordeal. it just idea
