i mentioned some other things in a different ask, but i like how i set scenes?? idk!! i think i do a decent job of establishing setting and mood, and giving enough context that most people can just jump in without prior investment.

this is what i've been dabbling with lately, idk!!

Ksiroda is a river in name only, except for a few reliable months each year when the island of Thavnair is overwhelmed by rain. A blessed season, according to locals from whom Io takes her education, where all is washed clean, back to the ocean. The rains nourish the already-rich soil of the tropical forest and in the weeks after they’ve gone, people from every corner of the island flock to the lowlands in search of all manner of flora. Medicinal herbs, just-sprouted mushrooms, roots exposed in the runoff, and treebarks softened by the storms—treasures gifted by the Mrga to aid their people. Io only wants a handful of flowers. It took hours to find them. She left the city at midday, but time is easily lost beneath the shrouded canopy, moving as slowly as the now-trickling Ksiroda. A bell or so ago, she removed her shoes, pinned her shirt to her waist, and waded to the opposite bank, deciding this side had been picked clean by gatherers who had the sense to come foraging before she did. Her luck changes on the less-worn paths south of Palaka’s Stand. Cradled in forked, low-hanging branches of an unassuming tree are the white blooms she seeks—jasmine. Nonexistent in Eorzea but abundant on this side of the world, and one of her favorite flowers. A reminder of a time when her life was smaller, simpler. As she gathers the flowers, the heavy, green sweetness of their scent carries Io back to another time, and to a place she can never forget. Her mother was fond of jasmine too; she tended to trailing vines around their home. Though her hands were slender and refined, her true love was betrayed by the line of fresh soil beneath her nails. The scent followed her around their home as she dropped blooming bunches into vases or hung them to dry in windows. Io’s hands could be the double of Marit’s, down to the meticulous way she preens the little bunches from their vines. She wonders if her mother would approve of her now. If she would forgive her for the things she’s had to do during the last sixteen years. And would she be amused that after all of that, her daughter is still compelled to trek through a jungle to pick jasmine for a man who’s never smelled it? Marit’s teasing smile assaults her from the past. Gods, she needs to stop thinking of her mother.

Incoherent Onceler throughts. Toughts. Thoughts. I'm ill about

- Still haven't stopped thinking about the Onceler being changed by the valley. Go silly creature boyyyy

- Like. You're in Greenville hearing whispers and rumors of this guy in the valley. You don't know who he is or where he came from but one night while you're on your way home you see a tall figure in the distance at the top of a hill. Whistling. His face is obscured, or maybe you can see the glow of his eyes. Nobody believes you when you tell them so you go out into the night to find answers yourself.

You happen upon a cottage and peek in through the open window and see a man staring blankly into a mirror. He suddenly snaps out of it and you duck just out of view as he whips his head around.

The sound of him pacing around on the wooden floors, nervously talking to himself and the slight stutter to his voice as he tries to reassure himself that everything's fine. Do you see my vision

What made you ship it?

lee-apolla's fanarts & gushing with a bestie (hi mune) about how cool of a concept it was/is did made me fall so hard and so quick. not kidding, i'm pretty sure it's the bsd ship that has grabbed me by the throat the fastest.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

sleepy non-human husbands!!! they may not have met in canon (that we know of), but pls, they're both "monsters" and mostly want to be left alone to sleep. there's no way the wouldn't get along, plus you can make it to be so they've known each other for centuries and,,, that's it, it's so cute (and has very tasty stuff on the kinky side, even if i'm here for the fluff almost entirely).

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

this is one of the rarest bsd rarepairs, so not much appart from the fact that i ship them, i guess?

What made you ship it?

the tension alksdjf. i mean, we knew about the ada/pm situationship, and knowing their bosses are like that and have history already had me intrigued watching the anime. then the manga happenned, and i was like "omg broke up over custody of child", which led me to "i want them back idk".

What are your favorite things about the ship?

i like enemies/rivals/annoyances to lovers, so ofc i was gonna get interested + with them there's the chance of "were together, separated, might get back" (which is the route i always take alksdf). i like how they don't always see eye to eye and there's unsolvable differences either, but both respect each other and will work together for the sake of the city.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

i don't get ppl who act like mori's terrible and fukuzawa's a saint when... fukuzawa used to be a hitman. or when it's mori vs fukuchi shipping wars, when to quite some extents, both characters/ships are pretty similar. with what we know now, it makes more sense "objectively" not liking none than loving one and hating the other? (i know these things aren't always objective, but you get me).

Hmm. As far as cancellings go, not a very interesting one - but probably the most relatable. And anyway, the reason didn't always matter when the target was someone you didn't really like.
