I think the thing that has me by the balls so bad about Albrecht/Loid is the potential. For all that WitW is a short quest we get a lot about their history thrown at us--
First, we know they definitely had a Thing. Loid is not shy about admitting they had a Thing
They worked together for decades, and Loid does very personal things like caring for Albrecht's health, grandchildren, and pet
In spite of this, Loid has genuine anxiety about their relationship and isn't totally sure of how Albrecht really felt
We know for a fact, from Albrecht's own diary, how he really felt and that he was genuine
Which brings us to the hook, the mystery, the fun part: how did these guys dance on the knife's edge of miscommunication for so long while at the same time making very permanent physical commitments? Cultural barriers? Poor self-esteem? Entitlement complex?
There are about a million things happening here. Their relationship runs the gamut from professional fuckbuddies to heretical conspirators to domestic lovers. Everything under the sun happened here. Simultaneous emotional constipation, fucking nasty, and living together as a family. Incredible. No notes.

i've been working on rewriting parts of Strixhaven in order to better fit my setting that I've been building and I think the thing i've struggled the most with is the deans and their polar principles. so many of them feel almost slapstick levels of goofy and things no real person could truly believe while still being functional at their jobs. the obvious inference for students/PCs is that neither extreme is good, and you need to find a balance of the two, but i'd still like for the deans to be somewhat believable.
Witherbloom Dean of Growth Lisette Maldock is of Maldock Trading Company fame. Students often describe her as very kind and easy to talk to, although she is also known for the incredible work she has done. The creation of the Alloid for the MTC has the potential to alter factory-work across the globe; capturing the souls of your most loyal workers after their death and inserting them into specialized metallic shells allows them to take on some of the most dangerous jobs in the factory, while also continuing to earn money to support their families. The Alloid do need to pay rental fees for their hosting bodies, but surely it is worth it to be allowed to live just a little longer.
Witherbloom Dean of Decay Valentin Laguerre hails from Aigua, a nation once dominated by vampiric overlords but now reborn in the blood of revolution. Students whisper about what role he may or may not have played on the days when rivers ran red, but there is little use in denying that freeing the snakes of their heads was a quicker, more effective route to freedom than politeness and idle hope.

Given: Albrecht's way of speaking is incredibly obtuse and complex
Also given: Euleria got her habit of explaining/simplifying things from Loid
Conclusion: Albrecht always talks like that and Loid is Albrecht's primary translator
Albrecht: The clutching grasp of Lethe's waves have kept me from my repast and left me hollow, weary. Betrayed.
Euleria: ...??
Loid: For the last time, set your own alarm and stop expecting Kalymos to wake you for breakfast.

Did commoners own any land? Were there real estate moguls in cities which rented space to shop keepers and such?
Kind of, yes.
I've discussed this earlier, but "alloidal title" wasn't really a thing in medieval societies, thanks to the legal doctrine of "nulle terre sans seigneur." (No land without a lord.) Thus, the overwhelming majority of land tenures were various forms of leases or use-rights.
So yes, commoners could have extensive landholdings, whether they be rural yeomen or urban burghers, but they tended to be in the form of long, long-term leases rather than what we would consider to be ownership today.
So for example, when Thomas Cromwell was making his dizzying run up the social ladder in the 1530s, he mostly did it by snapping up hundred year leases to valuable properties in town and country, and only started acquiring formal titles when he made it into the aristocracy.
