The Great Square of Pegasus // Ireneusz Nowak

Read below the cut for some info about some of the stars in this image as well as an annotated image to guide the eye!

Starting with Pegasus first, in order of brightness:

Scheat (β Pegasi) is a red giant star that forms the upper right corner of the Great Square. It is about 196 light years away and has swelled to over 100 times the size of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase Al Sā'id meaning "the upper arm".

Markab (α Pegasi) is a blue-white star located about 133 light years away, marking the lower right corner of the Great Square. Its name comes from an Arabic word markab meaning "the saddle of the horse".

Algenib (γ Pegasi) is a blue subgiant star about 470 light years away and marks the lower left corner of the Great Square. It has a mass of about 9 times that of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word al-jānib meaning "the flank".

Matar (η Pegasi) is a yellow-white star about 196 light years away. It is a binary system, with the primary being about 25 times larger than the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase Saʽd al Maṭar meaning "lucky star of rain".

Homam (ζ Pegasi) is a blue star about 204 light years away. It is only about 4 times as large as the Sun, but is emitting over 200 times the light. The origin of the name is unclear, but it likely comes from the Arabic phrase Sa'd al Humam meaning "lucky star of the hero."

Sadalbari (μ Pegasi) is a yellow giant star about 113 light years from Earth and is about 9 times the size of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase saʿd al-bāriʿ meaning "the lucky star of the splendid one."

ι Pegasi is a binary star system about 39 light years away. The primary is a yellow-white star about the mass of the Sun but 1.5 times the size.

λ Pegasi is a yellow giant star about 365 light years away. It is about 1.5 times the mass of the Sun, but over 28 times the size of the Sun.

Next up are the few stars in Andromeda, in order of brightness:

Alpheratz (α Andromedae) is a binary star system that forms the upper left corner of the Great Square. The primary is a blue-white star with about 3.5 times the mass of the Sun. The entire system is located about 97 light years from Earth. Its name comes from the Arabic phrase surrat al-faras meaning "navel of the horse".

Mirach (β Andromedae) is a red giant star about 200 light years from Earth. It is only about 2.5 times as massive as the Sun, but has swelled to over 85 times that of the Sun. Its name comes from the Arabic word mīzar meaning "girdle".

δ Andromedae is a triple star system about 105 light years from Earth. The primary is a orange giant star about the mass of the Sun, but about 13 times the size.

μ Andromedae is a blue-white star about 130 light years from Earth. It is about twice the mass and three times the size of the Sun.

ν Andromedae is a binary star system about 620 light years from Earth and appears very close to the Andromeda Galaxy on the sky. The primary is a blue star about six times as massive as the Sun.

Finally, two stars in Pisces:

ν Piscium is a binary star system about 365 light years away. The primary is an orange giant star about 1.6 times the mass of the Sun with almost 35 times the size.

τ Piscium is an orange giant star about 169 light years away. It is slightly more massive than the Sun, but 10 times the size.

That Mf stole from another artist and posted it, Even though I reported the situation the hacker deleted the account, my account glitch multiple times so I deleted the app and moved on. Alpheratz 14• Aries - the head of the chained woman.

Sun aligns to alpheratz every year around April 4th, making these Andromedan natives notably fiery and independent.

Alpheratz is a neon white lilac star suspended in the hair of Andromeda, the chained woman.

Speechless and just straight up lost, man is just looking at us for a good minute before continuing to walk down the aisle like nothing happened.

Alpheratz

Hype man right here, he's literally helping you coach that killing machine to end Sirius.

Precious actually stops trying to rip his wig off and is now accepting him as a friend, sort of.

I love this trio ! A batshit crazy animal, their batshit insane owner and the owner's boyfriend who hates the same person they hate.

Once precious is released into the city to found that sexy gun man, it's over for him.

It crawls it's way through the streets, hissing at anything in it's way until it finds the legs of the enemy..and CRUNCH GOES THE BALLS OF THE ASSHOLE-

Arcturus

Precious held on to his leg for a week, it didn't wanna let go for even a minute. Had to constantly keep this ginger man in a hospital because the moment he got out he would bleed extensively.

Once it got off of him, you just continued to train your unhinged creature.

Precious is really going balls out for the game I'll tell ya that, we're not just speaking about the nutcracker here we're talking about the sacrifice of future generations as well.

This poor dude is just standing on the sidelines like : you don't have to do this but I still support you because that's really all I can do...

Pollux

Oh he means business.

We got another coach right here- bro is going to ANNIHILATE sirius and whatever is left.

Although he keeps wincing whenever it actually happens, I mean they're both guys he knows just how painful it can get.

It's really terrifying to be honest just witnessing something that violent.

That's pollux trying to hold it, Precious is completely calm and rational with it's beloved owner.

Vega

I love how I skipped the part where Precious tried to lunge at him and remove his eyeballs from his eye sockets.

How Alpheratz reacts to the cast being found sleeping!

Because sleep is very sacred to our favorite sorcerer, and he cares more than he lets on

Below the cut bc this is long~

Spica

He finds Spica having fallen asleep at his desk, his neck turned dangerously to the side and threatening to flop over

Spica is only annoying when he's awake, Alpheratz figures

The air around Spica is very quiet when he sleeps. Alpheratz likes that. He likes the content silence, only broken by Spica's soft breathing

Silently, he takes a blanket and covers Spica with it, balling up his own jacket and sliding it under Spica's head as a pillow so he won't fall

Sleep is sacred, and Spica gets far too little of it

He sits there and listens to the sound of Spica's sleep, watching the sun go down

Spica almost looks innocent, young, when he sleeps

He leaves, eventually, but be leaves feeling calmer and more refreshed than when he had gone in

Arcturus

Arcturus is so loud and full of energy all the damn time that Alpheratz has half a mind to check if the kid is still breathing when he finds him sleeping in a meadow

Believing Arcturus had been felled somehow was much more probable than him having just laid down for a quick nap, but thats what seemed to have happened

They were far away from the school, so far that no one could possibly cry for help loud enough for Arcturus to hear

Maybe, Alpheratz thinks, that's the point

Arcturus had tucked his uniform jacket underneath his head to sleep, his hands curled into semi fists like a dozing infant

He was incredibly cute like this, more innocent than usual. That is, he would have been, if Arcky didn't turn out to be a frownie sleeper

Face drawn in a scowl that Alpheratz had never seen Arcturus pull when he was awake, the young sorcerer slept silently

Alpheratz settled beside him back against the tree, Arcturus somewhat leaning into his lap

He dozed off himself, lulled to sleep by the perfect day, slight breeze, and busy silence of nature

He didn't know how much time had passed, but when he woke up, Arcturus was still sleeping-

But his hand, previously empty and only half fisted, was now squeezing Alpheratz finger tightly, as though afraid to let go.

Night had fallen already, they weren't getting home any time soon

As silently as possible, Alpheratz cast a spell of warmth over them both, and allowed himself to drift back to sleep once more

Vega

Alpheratz had always been of the opinion that if you'd stuck a lump of coal up Vega's ass, you'd have a diamond in two weeks

That is to say, he wasn't the kind of kid one expected to be sleeping in public

And really, he wasn't actually sleeping. It was more like some indiscriminate amount of time ago, someone in Kamargo the violent bastards that they were had beaten Vega in a duel, and left him lying here

The dried blood on his uniform, sword scratches in the dirt, and general air of pompousness in the air confirmed Alpheratz's theory

He didn't like to be helpful, but seeing one of the youngest of their little group alone and injured did weigh on Alpheratz's heart

Carefully looking around to make sure no one was nearby, Alpheratz carefully, gently took Vega into his arms and teleported into his room, setting Vega down on his bed and immediately beginning his healing magic

Alpheratz hated using healing magic and had never grown tired of complaining how his idiot grandfather never took the initiative to train more and more healing sorcerers

But much like the Kamargos, no sorcerer would rather heal than hurt. It took too much of their pride away

Vega's eyes scrunched up in pain, and Alpheratz' heart skipped a beat.

He only breathed again once Vega was all healed, his intense focus finally wavering.

Finally, Vega looked at peace

Feeling exhausted from the intense focus and magic use, Alpheratz shrugged and crawled into bed next to Vega, pulling the covers over himself and the kid

At least his latent magic overflow could aid Vega in his recovery this close

When he awoke, Vega was still there, but this time cuddled into Alpheratz chest

Fighting the smile that wanted to grow on his face, the man got up and resolved to go buy some sort of chicken soup to help his little former-human recover

Pollux

Pollux was just a boy, and that meant that as long as the lecture was boring enough, he could fall asleep anywhere

Luckily for Pollux, Alpheratz was not Spica. He wouldn't scold his little boy for something as minor as sleeping through a lecture

With a swift flip of the page in his book, they were both teleported outside, in the warm and wide branches of Alpheratz's favorite napping tree

At the sudden movement, Pollux wavered dangerously- but there was nothing to worry about. Alpheratz had him tucked away safely in his arms before his body could even think about hurtling towards the ground

Pollux sank into Alpheratz's arms immediately, his snoring getting even louder, as though he sensed it was *really* nap time now

Alpheratz chuckled to himself, brushing the hair out of Pollux's face so he could get a better look at the soft, pale features of the second sorcerer of Gemini

He didn't have any heart to wake this kid at all, his little boy

Content to nap his day away, Alpheratz pulled off Pollux's uniform jacket to make the kid more comfortable, and then wrapped them both in Alpheratz's, his magic keeping them both warm, drowsy, and unbothered

When Pollux awoke, he was so shocked at the situation and who's chest he'd been drooling on while he napped that he fell out of the tree

But that's alright, because Alpheratzs was right there to heal the bump on his noggin

Sirius

Alpherats thought he'd see the coming of the second great disaster before he saw Sirius sleeping

Frankly, Alpheratz considered himself lucky he ever saw Sirius at all. If the man did not want to be seen, he wouldn't be seen. End of.

Sirius, notorious for disappearing at the best and worst times, always where he shouldn't be, never where he should, and no one could ever find proof

He was also a notorious gossip

Alpheratz happened upon him by complete accident. There was a small alcove over the cafeteria, next to the vents, where bread and other non perishables were stored.

The cook on duty was short and old, so Alpheratz was up there trying to locate the oldest loaf when he saw him

Curled up into a tight little ball, ear pressed to an open vent and eyes contently shut, hidden behind a stack of jam jars, was Sirius

From up here, one could hear all the gossip in the cafeteria just by sitting close to the vent

No wonder Sirius knew everything. If someone wanted food, they either had to eat in the cafeteria or go all the way to town, and everyone at in the cafeteria at least once a week

Absent-mindedly, Alpheratz teleports the bread down and crawls over to Sirius, amazed that the sorcerer hadn't woken up immediately to begin cracking his snide comments and deverting jokes

Snoring peacefully, more innocent than Alpheratz had ever seen him, Sirius didn't move an inch. He just slept curled into his tight little ball, dead to the world

It probably wasn't the safest for anyone, least of all someone like Sirius, to sleep in the Queen Tet dorm. The thought made Alpheratz sad, for some reason

Sirius wasn't innocent though, and he wasn't an inexperienced sorcerer. He'd wake up if Alpheratz so much as breathed too close, forget trying to teleport him somewhere more comfortable.

For the first time, Alpheratz felt he truly wasn't acquainted with Sirius, like he'd found a stranger sleeping instead of a friend

He didn't even know why Sirius slept up here, why he didn't feel safe in the Queen Tet dorm, why he slept curled up so tightly

He wanted to feel closer to the kid

Half his suspicion over Sirius was because he was so hard to read; innocent and good people wore their hearts on their sleeves

But seeing Sirius curled up so tightly, almost like a kicked puppy, tugged at Alpheratz's heart more than he'd like to admit

Carefully, he laid down next to Sirius, and let himself doze off to sleep

They awoke together, when a sharp clang came from the cafeteria below.

Sirius looked more surprised to see Alpheratz there than at the noise. Alpheratz just slowly blinked at him, and in a sign of more trust than Sirius probably deserved, he closed his eyes once more

Sirius did the same

After that, Alpheratz felt he knew Sirius just a little, very little bit better

A Project?

Gloria Gloryheart here, and I bring to you my ideas for this series.

I had these characters from another series I was working on which I called "The Spirit Animals". This series was originally me and my friends, then I changed it to be of my own characters. Over the time, as I looked over that series, I realized "I don't like this concept as much anymore!"

I love magical hero series a lot! I especially love it when they have little animal sidekicks with them. I also love astronomy.

I had the idea, "What if... there was a magical hero series... about wishing upon a star?"

I welcome you to the concept of "Wish Upon A Star"! A magical hero series where the heroes had wished on a star and now, they have the powers from that star! I will slowly share more about the series, including the concept art I have over time as I work on this.
