The Bad Sanses somehow ended up in the Backrooms. №14
<-Switch to Russian ver.
next 15
prev 13
This is the translation of the another post from Russian to English. I understand English, but it is very difficult for me to write in English, so I asked chat GPT to help me. I have corrected some parts, but there still may be mistakes.
There will be no romantic lines in this story. I don't think it's appropriate to introduce romance, the story just isn't about that. Perhaps there will be some hints (I love some pairing and polyamory in the gang), but this work is just a research and hobby for me, a platform for experiments. Killer is just fooling around because he gets an interesting reaction in return.
Well, now I want to experiment with the number of images. I will be adding more relevant illustrations to the text. For now, I'll start with two or three and see how it turns out. I don't think I'll have time to add the gang to all the images, but perhaps in the future, I'll do.
What Error identified as an "exit" turned out to be a broken arcade machine. The power cable was torn and led to a small dirty puddle, one of the walls was scratched with claw marks, as if a wild beast had sharpened its claws on it, and the coin slot was overgrown with moss. But Error was convinced that this thing could serve as a way out of here (he sees more than the others), when they look around. After all, they have just arrived. However, level 25, where the arcade machine presumably led, was a good opportunity to choose their own path ahead (Nightmare was happy to have the chance to predict his own life).
The description of level 23 in the database described the ruins of a past civilization. Engaging in archaeology would not be amiss. Moreover, in addition to items, human organizations hunted for information (Killer understood their curiosity). Old bricks, ruins, a couple of rusty coins, sketches of various architectural styles - the group looked with admiration (except for Error) at their boss, who surprisingly well oriented himself in the value of archaeological finds.
Many of them sometimes forgot that their boss had lived a long life and loved learning new things.
The group's inventory, although it allowed carrying many items, was limited and had already been filled with essential items. They had to choose. Some things were discarded based on data from the Backroom database, some did not represent historical value. Mostly, the subordinates of Nightmare were engaged in the search: Killer brought everything he saw, while Horror enthusiastically searched for edible and medicinal plants.
Dust was the only one who purposefully searched for artifacts. He admired Nightmare's skills and was interested in learning more about history from him. Forest butterflies flocked to him. It even seemed to Dust that they were trying to help him in his search within their capabilities. Perhaps it was his imagination. But he managed to find a couple of interesting frescoes and fragments of some strange tools, which Nightmare identified as "valuable".
Some of the finds resembled musical instruments, some looked like weapons or tools. They seemed damaged, but Killer's attempt to break one of the ancient items failed: they turned out to be surprisingly strong.
Horror found wild grapes and a bunch of snails on them. It took him a couple of days to prepare the snails (each of them knew about snails from the old lady), but the berries tasted good. As if the plant came here not from the forest, but from the plantation. That explained the snails.
Error used strings to catch animals and let Horror cook it. It was just rational. The big guy could cook well. In a way, Horror bought Error's loyalty. For now.
Overall, they stayed in these forests for about two weeks and did not notice any signs of a possible way to get to their home dimension. It seemed that the human settlement was also too far from the place where they were (Enrico could have had a hard time). And everything that people knew, they immediately published on Reddit or the knowledge base, and they had not yet come across any secret communities. The latter was very disappointing Nightmare.
With some caution (the dimension-killer could play a trick on them, but going all the way back was too tedious. They were, after all, Sanses), the group returned to the arcade machine by a shortcut.
It was standing there.
Waiting for them.
Error could not make it work just like that. He saw the executable code for moving to level 25. But the Backrooms did not allow him to change or initiate anything. Fortunately, there was a real thing in front of him. And the code for moving was launched manually. He just needed to reconnect the wires and microchips that would do all the work for him.
Error stuck his hands inside the broken machine and released the threads. They slid inside, weaving through the broken parts. The power source was still working - the cord outside was decoration.
The mechanism seemed complex, but Error only needed to fix what was involved in executing the code. It took some time, but the Destroyer managed to do it. The machine still looked deactivated, and its screen remained dark. But inside, music could be heard, and the coin slot glowed with light bulbs. One of the ancient coins they found managed to squeeze inside. Now they just needed to press a few buttons, simulating the game. Killer happily pounced on the levers and keyboard. After a few actions, Error began to reboot, and Killer got into the game - it seemed that the arcade machine contained some kind of fighting game. It was difficult to orientate oneself by the sounds of battle, but the skeleton got carried away and played until the transfer worked.
They all appeared in the hall, level 25. The second crossroads of the Backrooms. Many arcade machines, billiards, mini-bars, soda machines, ping-pong and other entertainment.
Killer immediately offered to play something. He playfully used his body as a bet.

A CO₂ World: Honest Background Research in Worldbuilding
One of the most enduring—and fascinating—challenges of writing hard sci-fi is the fact that positing even very simple ideas often requires a great deal of background research, as I am not an expert in any of these fields. And not just any cover-your-ass research: honest research that attempts to portray physical truth.
Suppose a planet with an almost entirely carbon dioxide atmosphere. We actually have those in the Solar System: Venus and Mars. And suppose your spunky, left-handed, silver-haired starship captain is on the surface of such a planet (whose atmosphere is thankfully thicker than Mars' but not as thick as Venus'). Immediately, this raises numerous questions about the environmental description.
If she's not wearing protective gear, how does she breathe? This was the easiest to answer; I knew it would be a distributed nanite-scale system inside her body that liberated O₂ from the CO₂. All I had to do was study the most suitable means of achieving this, which ended up being nanite-scale electrolysis. A miniaturized of the same basic technology used on the Perseverance rover on Mars in its MOXIE instrument, actually. The high heats required are indeed alarming, but with the proper architecture it's not really a big problem to have tiny little nanovessels inside of you that are 1500 degrees. As for where the carbon goes, let's just say it is mostly exhaled and the rest causes blacker poos. (Which I say casually, but both of those claims also required research.) Problem solved, easy peasy lemon squeezy!
The color of the sky was an obvious question, though I didn't think of it till I was writing this, as I've done a lot of sky color research in the past and had kind of bypassed it this time due to starting with the blue color rather than starting with an atmospheric composition. I wanted blue, like Earth, for story reasons, but I was prepared to go where the facts led me if necessary. You're probably aware that the Martian and Venusian skies are not blue, but they also have their own other things going on. The Martian sky for instance is red mainly because of airborne rust dust. What about those blue Martian sunsets, though? That comes from the large size of the dust particles, and the associated light-scattering. So if our hypothetical planet has Earth-normal sizes of dusts in the air, it's not a problem—and since its atmosphere is similar in density to Earth's, this is a reasonable supposition. In any case, a purely carbon dioxide atmosphere doesn't necessarily impose any sky-color requirements. Or, rather, it does, but that requirement actually is blue, unless other things are going in the atmosphere.
There is very much an "unknown unknowns" danger when it comes to amateur research, and I am thankful for my lifetime of generalist curiosity, because it occurred to me yesterday to ask what carbon dioxide gas weighs. This would potentially affect the pitch of Cherry's voice. And, sure enough, pure CO₂ is moderately but noticeably heavier than Earth air, meaning a noticeably deeper voice but hardly that deep. I was quite pleased with myself, and relieved, to have thought of that.
But of course if one feather is plucked for the hat another might end up jabbing you in the butt. As I was going to bed last night, lights out, lying in bed, actively dozing off, it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't thought about radiation! I knew that this hypothetical planet has a higher level of surface radiation from its parent star than we do and a reduced magnetosphere relative to Earth's. But how would this interact with a nearly-all-CO₂ atmosphere? Would Cherry actually be at risk to get a sunburn? I hadn't considered that until I practically dreamt it.
I remembered the question this morning and set about looking it up. Chemical absorptions of light are an endless minefield because I do not possess the scientific groundwork principles to deduce the answers to these questions. I always have to look them up. And usually I have to look them up with the end-use application in mind, rather than the question itself, due to the difficulty of getting good answers out of Google these days. But even helping Google along in this way is tricky, because unrelated conversations of a more popular nature (say, the effects of carbon dioxide on global warming) tend to dominate search results. This even happens at the human level: I found a Quora page where somebody asked the exact question I had, and several of the answers mistook it for a question about global warming.
Complicating the context of the question is that gases in the low atmosphere don't have the same function in this regard as gases in the high atmosphere. This was offset somewhat by the fact that I only needed to know what was happening on the surface—sunburn or no sunburn—and so it didn't actually matter which level of the atmosphere was blocking what. But finding an answer I could be confident about involved going through some of this. It is not a simple subject.
I answered to my satisfaction that there would still indeed be an ultraviolet radiation danger at the surface from a nearly-all-CO₂ atmosphere, especially in the UVA range. But then it occurred to me to ask about X-rays. On Earth we take it for granted that the electromagnetic spectrum below UV more or less doesn't exist in the ambient environment, but obviously that isn't a Universal given.
As time goes on, I am sure I will think of more questions. I always do. It really sets a contrast with the sort of sci-fi that just treats all this stuff as arbitrary and presumes to stave off factual questions with technobabble.
I do not mean this in a gatekeepy sort of way, but over the past years of working on Galaxy Federal I have come to see honest research as an inextricable part of the identity of science fiction storytelling. I think that by eschewing this one gives up some of their claim to the mantle of science fiction. It becomes more akin to fantasy at that point. Honest research is a necessary burden, sort of like hiking in the summer obligates one to sweat. But, unlike sweating, for me honest research is also quite a gratifying reward. I never feel as in-touch with the Universe, nor have so many run-ins with my old high school math and science education, as I do when I am researching my fiction. (The Curious Tale too, but that's just me being me and is an asterisk for another day. I guess in this sense you can think of The Curious Tale as being more sci-fi than fantasy; I have long conceived of it to myself that way.)
One of the most frustrating aspects of the challenge of honest background research is that either the Internet has become steadily less and less useful as an information-lookup service for these kinds of queries (from some combination of informative websites going offline and the degradation of search engine utility), or the means of information-lookup have changed such that they have become steadily less accessful to me. Whatever the causes, in my experience good information is getting harder and harder to come by. I find it distressing that my general queries are overwhelmingly funneled through Quora, StackExchange, and Reddit before delivering me with specific terminologies, numbers, and concepts that I can then google directly.
I was speaking not terribly long ago with someone who works at Google, and they were telling me about Google Search's changing philosophy over the years. I summed it up rather bitterly as: "They've destroyed the Second Great Library of Alexandria and replaced it with Ask Jeeves." And the Google employee more or less agreed.
That's sad, and it's also sad that more readers don't see sci-fi as an opportunity to learn about science. The decline of "hard" sci-fi in books and the near-total absence of it in TV and film productions speaks to the nature of (and subsequently reinforces) audience preferences. But not everyone lives in that demographic, and not everyone who does live there has to stay there. if I have an opportunity to introduce readers to (or remind them of) some of the scientific ideas that fascinate me, then, commensurate with my reward for doing the honest research of preparing them for the story, I hope there will be reflected the reward of reader enjoyment of these little amuse-bouches.
#Galaxy Federal#Worldbuilding#Hard science fiction#Carbon dioxide gas is colorless#But makes for some very colorful storytelling#The Curious Tale#No Cherries were sunburned in our research experiments.#And if they were you can't stop me.#Muah ha ha!#(In a slightly deeper voice.)

Getting Around IES EXAM MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: A Complete Handbook
One of the most prominent and difficult tests for engineers in India is the Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam. The IES test is administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) with the goal of hiring engineers for a range of technical and administrative roles in the Indian government. The IES Mechanical Engineering branch is especially well-liked, drawing thousands of applicants annually because of the respect that comes with working for the government and the rich career prospects.
The IES Exam's Structure There are three phases to the Mechanical Engineering IES exam: Initial Inspection: There will be two papers in this objective exam: Paper I: Engineering aptitude and general studies (200 marks) Paper II: Specialized paper on mechanical engineering (300 marks) As a screening examination, the results of the preliminary exam are not taken into account for the final ranking. The only applicants eligible to take the Mains test are those who pass this level.
Main Examination: This stage is descriptive and consists of two papers, each of 300 marks: Paper I: Mechanical Engineering Paper II: Mechanical Engineering The Mains exam tests the candidate's in-depth knowledge of Mechanical Engineering subjects. Personality Test/Interview: Candidates who qualify the Mains exam are called for the Personality Test, which carries 200 marks. The interview assesses the candidate’s personality, leadership qualities, and ability to handle stressful situations.
Planning Approach Because of the IES exam's wide syllabus and competitive format, preparation calls for a methodical and rigorous approach. The following are important tactics for prospective candidates: Recognizing the Exam Pattern and Syllabus:Comprehend the material and test format in its entirety. Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing Technology, and Machine Design are just a few of the topics covered in the Mechanical Engineering course.
Study Materials and Resources: For each subject, consult a standard textbook and a reference book. Highly recommended are books by writers such as R.K. Rajput, P.K. Nag, and S.S. Rattan. If needed, sign up for coaching sessions; they offer study materials and organized advice. A plethora of tools, such as practice questions, mock exams, and video lectures, are now available on online sites.
Frequent Exercise and Review: To gauge your level of preparation and develop your time management abilities, solve past years' question papers and take frequent practice exams. Introduction to Full Stack Development

Full stack development is a term used to describe the comprehensive skill set required to develop both the front end and back end of web applications. It involves working with both client-side and server-side technologies to create fully functional and interactive web applications. A full stack developer is someone who is proficient in various programming languages, frameworks, databases, and other tools necessary for building the different components of a web application.
Let's break down the key components of full stack development:
Front End Development: This involves everything that users interact with directly in a web application. It includes the user interface (UI) design, user experience (UX) optimization, and client-side programming. Technologies commonly used in front end development include HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with frameworks/libraries like React, Angular, or Vue.js for building dynamic and responsive user interfaces.
Back End Development: This part of development focuses on the server-side logic, databases, and server management required to power the web application. Back end developers work with server-side languages like Node.js, Python (with frameworks like Django or Flask), Ruby (with Rails), or Java (with Spring Boot). They also interact with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Firebase for data storage and retrieval.
Database Management: Full stack developers should have a good understanding of database management systems (DBMS) and how to design efficient database schemas. They work with SQL (Structured Query Language) for relational databases and NoSQL databases like MongoDB for non-relational data storage.
Version Control Systems: Full stack developers use version control systems like Git to manage and track changes in the codebase, collaborate with other developers, and maintain a history of code revisions.
Deployment and DevOps: Understanding deployment processes, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and basic DevOps principles is crucial for full stack developers. They deploy applications to hosting platforms like AWS, Heroku, or Azure and ensure the application runs smoothly in production environments.
Soft Skills: In addition to technical skills, full stack developers should possess good problem-solving abilities, communication skills, teamwork skills, and the ability to adapt to new technologies and tools quickly.

I’m scared to even write this down, because I worry that having confessed this fragility, you now know where to punch. I know that if I’m hit where I am earnest, I will never recover.
It can sometimes feel like loving the beauty that surrounds us is somehow disrespectful to the many horrors that also surround us. But mostly, I think I’m just scared that if I show the world my belly it will devour me. And so I wear the armor of cynicism, and hide behind the great walls of irony, and only glimpse beauty with my back turned to it, through the Claude glass.
But I want to be earnest, even if it’s embarrassing.”

DO NOT REPOST MY WORK, REBLOGS ARE WELCOME AND APPRECIATED
A majority of your childhood was peaceful. You got to do all the normal kid things- of course you were never totally sure what a ‘normal’ kid thing was on account of the fact that you’d actually never met another kid but, it felt normal enough. Aside from the very abnormal ‘birth defect’ you were ‘gifted’ with. You stopped considering your magical abilities as a gift by the time you were seventeen, when your mother made it abundantly clear that you could never leave the tower, you could never go outside, and you could never cut your hair.
The only thing more annoying than the seventy foot long tresses was your mother. According to her, your father was a sloppy one night stand she found in a tavern. He was a love em’ and leave em’ type of guy; he gave your mother one great romantic night and then disappeared off the face of the earth. You’ve never met him. You’ve never met anybody. Your mother has always been your only companion. She was a beautiful woman, she said you take after her more than your dad. While she was gorgeous and protective, she was also passive aggressive, rash, and ostentatious. If it was possible for her to get out of being “the bad guy” she lunged, dragging you under at the first chance. When you were younger she would tell you stories about the outside, she made it seem like a gorgeous place. She described the kingdom and the many villages outside its walls. She started with all the good things until you showed interest in escaping, then, she gave you the truth. She began to spin tales of roads rich with crime, vigilante gangs, covert groups of thugs, and rebel Viking camps. From what you could piece together, the rebel Viking camps were the greatest concern.
The rebel Viking groups weren’t actually Vikings. Your mother had said they called them The Vikings because of their rugged and brutal lifestyle. The camp they occupy is more like a small village, the structures following Norse architectural style, chalk-full of criminals and runaways. Runaways. Your mother had always explained to you that when young girls ran away from their mothers they ended up in that village living a life of crime. The very thought of falling into the wrong hands has kept you from sneaking out or from begging to leave the tower. You found ways to be content, ways to keep busy.
The tower wasn’t as big as it looked from the outside, the only living space was at the very top of the tower. The top of the tower had about two floors worth of open space, minimal and organized in the lower level and very maximalist in the bedrooms and wall decor. Mother said the rest of the tower below was sturdy white brick and vine, aged by time and the weather. Most of the exterior bricks were cracked or crumbling, so all the support for the turret came from the tower’s solid core. The roof was a chipped and rusty blue color mostly concealed by untamed ivy growth, which also hid the entrance to the tower’s turret. To your home. The only way in and out of the tower was an intricate pulley system made from twisted vine and rope. Originally, mother had used your hair to get into the turret, until one day a strand snapped from the pressure, dying and losing its magic. In an effort to protect your gift, you helped your mother make the pulley.
Crafting things was just one of the many ways you spent your time in the tower. After you’d turned eighteen your mother didn’t stick around much, if at all, leaving at night to go to the palace or the tavern, sometimes coming back in the morning and sometimes being gone for a day or two. With so much time alone the only option was to learn how to entertain yourself. Reading books, cooking, painting, testing the information you soaked up from all of the books, sewing holes in clothes, polishing leather, polishing silver, dusting, drawing in the dust. It’s a really long list. If there’s more to add you add it, forever stretching the possibilities. As the sun started to go down however, it started to seep in just how repetitive and predictable your daily activities had become. While you knew leaving the tower would be a horrible and dangerous mistake, you couldn’t help but long to be outside. To feel the grass between your fingers or to stand out in the sun, somewhere other than where it leaks through the turrets window entrance. It could never happen. Knowing this was an impossibility kept an icy grip on your stomach, a lonely sort of feeling, naturally touch starved by fate. It’s been years since the last time you asked to leave. Much before you knew how dangerous it really was out there. Asking one more time couldn’t really hurt could it? You’d be twenty soon enough, just one touch wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Mother had left early in the morning, off to do some much needed grocery shopping; if she hadn’t decided to stop by the tavern she would be home very soon. Too soon to come up with a better plan. Quickly you started to prepare for her to come home, sweeping the dining area and pulling out the utensils needed to make a special stew recipe you remember she had enjoyed. If she was going to say yes she needed to be buttered up first. Once the cooking utensils were nicely organized on or beside the unlit stove, and the dust was done away with, it was time to make quick work of anything she could use against your argument. Rushing to one of your most treasured bookshelves you pulled a discarded velvet scrap from the back of one of your more worn astronomy books. The midnight blue fabric had been torn from one of your favorite dresses when you were sixteen, unwilling to part with the shredded material, it was quickly fashioned into a long braided bookmark. Since then you’ve opted for shorter than floor length gowns or comfortable riding pants and tunics. The supposedly “masculine” style annoyed mother to no end but then again she really couldn’t understand how suffocating the corsets could become, or how difficult it was to fasten them without getting hair caught beneath the strings.
Unbraiding the bookmark allowed it to become one long thick strand, setting it on the dining table, you went to gather your hair. For the most part, you tried to keep it close to yourself. Getting any part snagged or wrapped around something was more of a pain in the ass than taking the time to gather it together. Gathering so much hair was difficult, it took time and it was unbelievably heavy. Once you were finally able to get it all in one place you started the tedious task of braiding. In order to braid it up enough to keep it off the floor you split it into three sections, braiding those separately before braiding them up into a complex Dutch braid. It took nearly two hours to finish so you could finally tie up the end with the dismantled bookmark. The complexity allowed the braid to settle halfway down your calves, keeping it neat and off the ground. Now all that was left to do was light the lanterns around the room and wait. Waiting for mother to get home was nerve wracking, if possible you’d busy yourself with starting the stew but you were fresh out of the most important ingredients.
“Y/n let down the vine!” Mother yelled from the bottom of the tower and the tension finally broke.
“Coming!” You sighed out in relief rushing to the window and lowering out the vine life you had made.
Once you were sure she was safely in the lift’s sling, you utilized the pulley system to begin pulling her up. The tower was around forty feet tall, making the trip up lengthy and difficult. When she was close enough to the window entrance you hooked the vine slack onto the wall hook, keeping it stationary, before quickly coming to help her in with the groceries. Taking the canvas grocery bags from her arms and into the kitchen, you started pulling out the items to take inventory on what she’d bought at the market.
“How was the market? Did that man give you trouble on the celery prices again?”
“Ugh doesn’t he always? Absolutely exhausting, he wanted double, and then there was a fight at the tavern again which I always have to break up.” She pulled out a chair at the dining table, sitting into it and slinging her feet up into the neighboring chair.
You slowed for a moment, pulling the bundle of carrots from the bag slower as you processed that she may be intoxicated which meant there’d be zero chance of having the conversation you desperately desired.
“You went to the tavern?” You asked, feigning excitement.
“Of course sweetheart, I promised that I would but I wasn’t there for long I promise.” She got up to meet you in the kitchen, resting her hands on your shoulders.
“Now what are we having? I’m absolutely starved.” She smiled.
“I was going to make that stew from last winter that you liked so much. Now that fall is settling in.” you started to add broth and small peeled potatoes to the pot.
“That sounds delightful darling, I’m going to go rest my eyes, call me when it’s done?” Mother started to walk away. It was now or never.
“Actually!” You cleared your throat., “Actually I was hoping I could talk to you about something.”
“Alright but let’s make this quick, mama’s feet are aching.” She turned back around to sit in another chair.
“Well as you know I’m almost twenty, an adult really and I’m already very responsible around the tower-“
“Y/n where is this going?” She interrupted, rubbing her temples.
“I want to go outside.” You turned to look at her.
“We’ve talked about this! It’s far too dangerous! You know what would happen if anyone discovered your gift!”
“I know, I know, but I’ve thought about it and no one would even know! I won’t tell anyone about it, and if they don’t know I have it then they don’t know how to use it, so it’s useless to them. If I just keep it braided I’ll be completely normal!” You came to sit across from her, hoping it’ll be convincing.
“No absolutely not, it’s much too risky! I have kept you safe for nearly twenty years! I am not stopping now! You’re far too young to understand but this is what’s best for you!” She got up and started to walk away again.
“But it’s not! I’ve never met anyone else! I’ve never had friends or met other people my own age! I’ve never even seen a real man!” You were absolutely desperate.
“Oh a man?! This is about men huh?! So you want to leave the safety of the home I built for you to go whore around for a man?!” She was absolutely furious, beyond cooling down.
“Mother no!” Your face was burning with embarrassment at the very suggestion of sexual activities.
“No truly I understand! You would rather leave this place and be used by men! Drained of your power in one of those Viking camps no doubt! I won’t hear another word, I’m going out for air and your attitude better be gone by the time I get back!” She walked over to the vine, untying it from the wall and setting it into a rustier pulley wheel that would let her down slowly, she was gone just as soon as she’d finished her sentence.
You had no choice but to sit in utter silence and shame. Swallowed by guilt that mother could ever consider you’d do that to her. As much as you wanted to leave and experience the real world, you desperately didn’t want to disappoint your mother or end up somewhere bad. Very quickly you dissolved into regret, backing over to try and undo what’s already been done, planning a way to forgiveness. Finishing the stew was the only way you knew how to start so you got to work, making this the best stew you could ever devise. Having never written the recipe down you had to go solely based on flavor and gut feeling. That was the best way to cook anyway. Once it had been spiced to taste you put the lid on the pot to let it simmer.
Almost immediately you found yourself overrun with anxiety, filled with a need to do something with your hands. To occupy your mind. There really wasn’t much to do in the tower to occupy you enough to erase this from the forefront of your mind. So you opted for the only thing that you could: cleaning. Your started polishing, dusting anything that you could and when there was nothing left you sat and you waited. The silence was absolutely deafening. You’d totally zoned out until you heard the rattling of the pot lid on the stove, snapping your head to it only to see the stew boiling over.
“Shit!” You rushed to turn it off, burning your hand in the process as you cleaned up the mess. Suddenly you were no longer hungry.
Opting to leave the stew on the stove for whenever mother would return you left the kitchen, going to your room as you cradled your hand gently. Tears stung your eyes, threatening to drip through your lashes and you curled up on your bed. Reaching for your braid with your uninsured hand, you gently took the end and rested it over your burned palm, reaching to wipe away some loose tears. Whether the tears were from the pain or from emotional discourse you couldn’t be sure. After drying your tears you closed your injured fingers around the large amount of hair, and began to hum a soft familiar melody. As the melody continued your hair began to glow a brilliant gold, almost glittery in color. Once the shimmer reached your palm, the heat faded and the wound healed. You were able to breathe. You looked to your palm, it was as soft and unharmed as it had been that morning. As it had always been. No scars or leftover pain. Just smooth healthy skin.
You couldn’t be bothered to really prepare for bed. The dress you wore was moveable, the corset easily undone as it tied in the front rather than in the back. Laying back you took a deep breath, closing your eyes momentarily to let go of all the stress that you could. After a minute of peace you pushed yourself up and off the bed, walking over to the dark wood armoire, opening it to look in the mirror, you sighed looking at your dress. There was stew on the navy skirt and what looked like a sizable carrot. You’d have to change to sleep. Lifting the skirt up closer you plucked off the carrot and disposed of it in the nearby waste basket. Returning to the armoire you flipped your braid back over your shoulder and checked the white sleeves of the off the shoulder blouse, slid your hands over the black corset, grabbing the tied strings from the vertex of the sweetheart neckline you untied the knot. Just as you’d finished untying the security knot you heard a loud grinding bang from the lower level. Pausing to listen you grew concerned.
“Mother? Are you alright?” You called gently.
When you didn’t receive a response you dropped the corset strings and left your bedroom, looking over the bannister you were met with the worst sight you could possibly have imagined. A large piece of the stone floor was broken and pushed out of the ground, slid off to the side and two large men climbed out of the dark hole below. Half a million questions filled your head. How was there a space under the floor? How did these men find you? Did they know who you were? There wasn’t time to think, you had to act. Silently and quickly you snuck back into your bedroom, burning out the lamps and climbing into the armoire as best as you could. Tilting your chin up to silence your breathing you listened. Waiting. Thinking. The men were much bigger than you thought a man would be. From what you could make out they dressed in dark clothing. Leather. Worn and hardly taken care of if at all. They were similar heights. One a redhead and the other blonde, both with rugged facial hair. You only had a brief look and the adrenaline pumping through your veins was making it difficult to focus.
“I am never doing that shit again, forty feet of crumbling bricks and thirty feet of rope, you seriously didn’t think that through?!” You could hear them arguing.
“It didn’t look that tall alright? Can we just find the chick and get out of here? I lost my good boots in a poker game with trash panda and if I don’t win them back he’s gonna tear them apart.”
It was clear they were coming for you. The only thing you could do was hope mother came home or that they didn’t see you behind all the other clothing in the armoire. The stairs creeped. Once. Twice. There was only one creaky step. They were both coming up. You held your breath.
“Food on the stove and the lamp in here is still warm. She was here recently.” They made it into your bedroom.
“If I had to guess I’d say she’s still here.” The footsteps stopped. It was silent.
Suddenly, the hem of your skirt was yanked-it had been caught in the door-and then the armoire burst open. The blonde man grabbed your arm as you struggled, ripping you from the small dark space and out into the open. He spun you around, pressing your back to his chest, his left forearm braced across your neckline and gripped your right shoulder. His right hand held a sharp silver blade to your heart.
“Well, well, well, Princess did we catch you at a bad time? These corset strings are so very loose for company.” The blonde man taunted, using the tip of his blade to pull on the cords.
You gripped this forearm, pushing back closer to his chest in an effort to get away from his blade as you struggled.
“P-please just leave me alone, I won’t tell any-anyone.” You stuttered, trying to stay calm the way your mother had taught you.
“We have plans for you, this hair of yours… hear there’s some people willing to pay a pretty penny for just a touch.” The red headed man stroked your braid, you jerked your head away.
“Oh oh oh” the blonde man laughed. “She’s a feisty one, are you sure we have to deliver her so soon? Could be fun…”
“Oh c’mon man don’t be gross he wants her unharmed. Mostly. C’mon just cloth her so we can go. Boots remember??” The red head said, grabbing your wrists and tying them together roughly. He took the dagger from the blonde, continuing to hold it in its position as the blond reached into his pocket.
“No no no no no please please I’ll give you anything you want just leave me alone!” You begged, swerving your head away from the blondes clothed hand as it moved towards your mouth.
“Bitch stop fussing around!” He slid his left forearm up to your throat, both choking you and effectively stabilizing your head long enough to clamp the cloth over your mouth and nose.
It hardly took thirty seconds before your vision started to swim and your vision started to fade to black.
“We’re already late. He’s waiting.” One of the men said as he slipped a cloth bag over your head. Your hearing went out, senses dulled as you gave in the the dark.

Your kitchen's Design - Can there be a New Kitchen inside your Future? Take the initial Steps to Accomplishment - Planning
A lot of my clients have got, unfortunately, initiated the plan of their kitchen with no understanding of the span of what is definitely involved in the process, in the case of design, budget, schedule and other issues. In such cases, our design system together, was disheartening for the client in addition to for me. As a result, this post will clarify the method so that you will have an opportunity to become better knowledgeable before you begin your your kitchen's project, thereby keeping away from uninformed decisions or perhaps spending time and/or revenue needlessly.
kitchen design
This article is simply not about the specific style and design features of your house and how to model it. There are many superior resources available for that will. Instead, it is for the process of designing a kitchen. It is geared towards eliminating help in getting a top of your head start and to open anyone who is, or even might be, embarking with the design of a innovative or remodeled your kitchen, to the first and the most important step : Planning.
Designing your kitchen for a brand-new or existing property is a big expenditure in time, money along with energy and it is usually stressful and tricky. Unfortunately, some distributors and TV applications don't like to obsess on this aspect thereby mislead the consumer concerning the actual amount of time together with effort that is required. Despite the fact creating a new kitchen area is challenging, a lot of clients say of the fact that results are more than well worth the effort. I hope that your information provided here will be a helpful factor toward having most people well on your way to somewhat of a successful project.
Before you start the process of creating your new kitchen, you have to set the key elements for the design. I can recommend that you engage a competent kitchen designer which not only designs that cabinet layout, nevertheless designs every component the kitchen and is needed throughout the entire job, so that the final result would have been a cohesive design this reflects optimum purpose and style. That designer will not only make it easier to create a beautiful, useful, kitchen but can save you significant time and additionally money and you will the two have fun developing a person's joint creation. We trust that below will get your energy going and thoughts auto racing, in preparation to get actually embarking when your journey. In addition to, it "is" a good journey!
THE KITCHEN ASSOCIATED WITH TODAY
The kitchen comes with traditionally been a very important room in the house due to the fact cooking and discussing food has long been middle to family existence. Meals will always be significant, but cooking provides, in some cases, significantly switched. The grocery marketplace has focused on substitutes for home foods and hundreds of dinning establishments have incorporated "to-go" in their business model. When we cook typically or not, living rooms remain the foundation associated with family life since it is where most people live and acquire. It is where many of us start and terminate our days in addition to share the information our day.
Today's kitchen sets serve more functions than ever before: entertainment target, home office, cooking along with dining space. This electronics for an pleasure center may include TV SET, music and connection to the web and the office location may have a workplace, files, computer together with bookshelves.
THE FIRST TIPS
Determine with your friends and family, who uses this kitchen and precisely how, and discuss this conveniences you would like to possess in the new type. Make a scrapbook from articles and insights on kitchens and additionally kitchen features of which interest you in addition to photographs of decks you like. Evaluate the way in which and when you prepare a meal, where you provide meals to exactly who and how typically you entertain along with how you entertain. Stock your dishes, cutlery, serving pieces, pots and pan sets, linens, and your normal grocery storage conditions so that you can be sure that the popular design accommodates all sorts of things.
It seems that no matter what time you plan for a remodeling undertaking, it usually takes for a longer period than you predicted. For a complete transform, the down time at the time of construction can be at the very least two or three months and far longer, depending upon your size and amount of the project. Your household needs to eat at the same time. So , before manufacturing starts make arrangements to help store, heat together with clean up, enough and keep you going prior to the kitchen is once again on-line. Many of your clients who have previously had the good fortune to get a bar sink inside family room, have transported in the old wine fridge and microwave close bar sink which combination becomes a interim kitchen all through construction of the cutting edge one. The benefit to this is which it provides a great explanation for eating out on a regular basis!
THE KITCHEN FOOTPRINT
Shall we start with the space available for you for the kitchen. Irrespective of whether you are designing for any new home, or simply remodeling in an old one, you are tied to how much space available in which to create ones dream. If the house is fairly small, it is advisable to consider whether or not you may have the option of increasing. You may be able to make this happen in your existing your home and, in a completely new home, very often you've kept time to alter that architectural plan, in the event that needed. In either case, if you possibly could eliminate or move a wall and walls or boost the house to create even more space for the your kitchen's, it will improve the performance and value in the room significantly.
Naturally, if you don't create some sort of addition to the home, and just remove and also relocate a wall(s), you then have infringed upon a contiguous space and lower its size, so that you have to weigh that option is the best in your case. Is it worth letting go the other space to enhance the size of the kitchen? If you ask me, if you can do minus the adjoining space, it happens to be much better to expend that extra space or room to the kitchen.
Whenever you plan to remove or even relocate a wall(s), the key factor to decide is, by which means doing, will you go through a load-bearing position? This occurs as soon as wall(s) is organ of the support system with the structure of the house. Commonly a contractor might determine this. In the event the contractor is unsure, you will need to have a structural engineer examine this structure to make that will determination. If it is neo load-bearing, when you are happy to start construction, your contractor can begin build out the actual per the new system. If it is a load-bearing issue, your local constructing authority will require that you really retain a structural engineer or a architect to design some sort of structural solution designed for removing or shifting the wall(s).
This individual will submit pattern drawings and data of the solution, with the building authority with regard to approval and permit. At receiving the make it possible for, when you are ready to begin the process of construction, the designer and installer can then proceed to build-out the structure each and every the engineer's or simply architect's specifications. It is a process in Ca, based upon the state creating standards, Title per day. The process in the various states is very very much the same.
In any case, once you have determined of whether or not to help you expand or re-configure, you will know the configuration (footprint) of the breathing space that you have available by a horizontal standpoint -- Plan View.
STRAIGHT SPACE
You should also consider precisely what size and shape the room can be from a vertical viewpoint as well. If it is likely to increase the level of the room just by raising, eliminating and altering an existing poor ceiling or soffit, you should seriously consider using this option. The additional position will provide more wooden box storage from the enhanced height of selection cabinets and the living room will become more voluminous which is always much more visually impressive and additionally comfortable. From a engineering standpoint, the load-bearing issues will connect with increasing the room peak just as it relates to moving or removing walls.
Of course, in working with all of these design in addition to construction issues along with decisions that need to become made, you will not come to be alone. Your developer will be the pivotal one that will help you evaluate the possibilities you have available. He or she could produce drawings so that they can visually demonstrate those options and will give advice on which selections are best together with why.
I understand that all sounds extremely tedious and bothersome. In some sense both of these words are a fantastic description of the design/construction process. However , everything that I have outlined on top of is done thousands of moments every day and most of people homeowners have live through and, as a result, depend on the new, beautiful, well-designed, kitchen of their objectives. You notice I talked about "most"! Seriously, a project will be complicated and there will be certain problems. This is basically the nature of type and construction and that's why you should not shift without experienced specialist throughout the process through the very beginning to the stop.
UTILIZING YOUR YOUR KITCHEN'S
Are you an expert cocinero, who does it all: cooking food, baking, barbecuing, and also are you a minimal cook dinner whose main goal should be to just get a food on the table for the home as expeditiously as is feasible, or are you anywhere you want in between? Do you consistently cook by yourself or even do you often have friends and family help with the creating meals? Do you often show your and all amount into the kitchen whereas munching on your Brie between sips with chardonnay? Do you cook often and wish a marble spot for that purpose? Your questions can do not delay - on.
Some shoppers have large, renowned, homes and enliven frequently and/or get large families. They will have someone undertake the cooking for your children. Some of these types of initiatives may need the full treatment method, such as a butler's kitchen or walk-in kitchen, two islands, a couple refrigerators, two dishwashers, two microwave stoves, a wine cooler, some other beverage cooler, some built-in espresso machines, sink, prep-sink and additionally bar sink in addition to glass-door cabinets to show the family heirloom the far east, etc .
Most people require something drastically less than all of this, although I bring it upwards just to emphasize which how you utilize ones own kitchen has a tough influence on the style and design and therefore, as I talked about, you should think about how you will want to operate along with what you want to accommodate in the kitchen. You can start considering what type of appliances together with features you would like. Imagine the three key work areas of your kitchen: Food Prepare (refrigerator and sink), Cooking (cook top notch, oven and microwave) and Cleanup (sink, dishwasher and recycling). You will find a myriad of designs and options available for you to and your designer will probably need to carefully consider. A lot more planning, of course!
THE SIMPLEST WAY & WHERE YOU CAN EXPECT TO EAT
You may love to be able to eat with the kitchen by having an tropical island with seating. How big the island that room will fit will determine how many you can seat. Seats at an tropical isle reduces the hard drive space usage available in the is, so the balance with the kitchen storage must absorb this decrease. You can basically sit down at three circumvent heights: chair top (29-30"), counter level (36") and standard height (42").
Should you have an adjacent dinner room, you may want to take there in the curiosity of having more storage devices in the island. If ever the room will provide it, you may much like the idea of a built-in booth in the breakfast time room or house, in lieu of a typical family table and chairs. Various clients like to have the choice of eating with both the breakfast location and at the of the islands in the kitchen. You might find there is no breakfast room in your home and the dining room functions as both lunchtime room and kitchen curtains. In any case, you should make these and other opportunities careful consideration.
THE DESIGN FASHION
There are many design motifs available to you: Traditional, Present day, Contemporary, Country, Craftsman, Cape Cod, and so on The design motif you select will definitely heavily influence selecting all of the other parts in the kitchen. A cabinet style and additionally finish have the most profitable influence on the model style of the kitchen. When i mentioned, you can start as a result of collecting magazine images of kitchens to obtain a feel for what we do and don't just like. They will give you superb ideas for all important things kitchen. Stock, semi-custom or custom shelves have many different versions and finishes to provide and of course, custom boxes can provide any pattern and finish.
KEEPING ISSUES
The planning operation will continue right up until every aspect of the whole kitchen design is normally selected and stated. However , once you have organized your footprint in addition to vertical space, how i want to utilize a kitchen, how along with where you want to feed on, and your design design, you are more than half manner there. The planning approach continues, on a small scale, as you are helping to make more decisions around all of the items together with issues that make up earnings kitchen design.
Types: Do you often create spaghetti and pasta, which requires sealing a large pot along with about four to six quarts of water? If you have, you should have a pot-filler over the cook major or range prime. Since there are simply two of you and it ingests a long time to clog the dishwasher which causes the area wash the dishes, you should think about a two cabinet dishwasher which lets you wash one bathroom drawer at a time, thereby conserving energy and to provide clean dishes again. Do you prefer a great air switch within the countertop for the garbage disposal or do you want that switch to be over the backsplash? Do you want a good garbage disposal inside the prep sink and also the main sink? Are you wanting soft close within your cabinet drawers? Would you like the idea of au cours de lighting above this island? Do you want some sort of filtered water method? The questions just on!
The various lists you will be encountering within designing your new your kitchen are as follows. This approach listing of categories can provide an idea of what exactly is to come. I decided not to say it was painless!

Worm Liveblog #115
UPDATE 115: The Simurgh Shows Off
A bit of a short Worm update today.
Last time the Travelers were introduced as a group of friends who play games together in a professional level. It was all nice and dandy until the Simurgh attacked, even Noelle was okay. This obviously is in the past, and I think it’s before they all got their powers, and I’m kind of expecting them all to get their powers from the trauma of being where the Simurgh attacks. So let’s continue and see if I’m right!
Running on a slippery concrete surface is not easy, and it’s even less easy when you’re running from something that could turn its attention at you at any moment and, I don’t know, vaporize you with her voice. It’s even harder for someone who is carrying somebody else, such as Luke, who is carrying Noelle along. They have to go, avoiding the windows and any other traps the building has. Hm...in theory avoiding the windows doesn’t sound like a difficult thing to do, really, unless this building has the most haphazardly-placed windows in the history of architecture or the ice’s making them slip around like crazy. Run in a straight line, that should be enough most of the time.
It’s when they’re getting to the parts of the building that are already crumbling – the base, I imagine – that dodging the windows is more difficult, due to the crumbling outer walls.
“Fuck!” Luke shouted. “Fuck, fuck me!”
Third time isn’t a charm for you, Krouse thought. Luke had put his leg through a window and his leg was slit open from the base of his foot to his knee.
Oh, damn, that’s nasty, and something to worry about. If you get a nerve of an artery, or even a vein sometimes, sliced, you’re doomed. Thank goodness there’s not much description, although that doesn’t make it any better. I can’t avoid thinking of some rather ugly scenarios.
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot to comment, Scion is here. You know, for someone who is a complete mystery and also the epitome of being a parahuman hero, he sure features much less in the story than I expected. Scion must be doing something right, anyway, since he’s forcing the Simurgh to retreat from the area.
Luke’s injury is a bit of a mystery, they don’t know how bad it is, and he still can move his leg well. In that case, it may not be too deep if the muscle isn’t very compromised. Lucky guy, Lucky Luke. Not in condition to carry Noelle, though, so Francis does it. He also shows why he’s the leader of the Travelers while Noelle is not okay, as he takes the leadership and gets Marissa to lead the way, looking for the safer places.
There are still things to worry about, though. The Simurgh is closer than they thought.
Telekinesis. She’d created a false image of herself out of snow and ice, baiting Scion away. Judging by the sound of Scion’s continued onslaught, she was still controlling it. Controlling it even though there was no way she could see what it was doing by eyesight alone.
The Simurgh’s skin is primarily white, gray and transparent, or she’s able to mimic colors somehow. Or maybe the copy is floating around while using the white and platinum hair to cover the skin. She sure would have enough wing and hair to do that. So while Scion is over there, fighting the copy, that’ll give the Simurgh the freedom to cause havoc over here, too close to the Travelers.
She’s doing something over there...gathering a lot of electronics. Is she trying to make another copy of herself, this time using electronics? She’s even connecting some. It’s odd. No time to worry much about it, though, they still have to run away, somehow get off the building and onto the ground.
Turns out descending the building may be an impossible task, due to the slipperiness of the outside of the building. Their only option is to go inside and search for another way, although it may be dangerous. There could be a fire or a gas leak – reasonable fears in this situation. But out here, there’s the Simurgh, there’s the cold...just because the Simurgh is out here I sure know what I’d pick. If I could, I’d try to ensure I’d be able to get out again if necessary, but such a thing may be impossible to do. There’s nothing on the outside.
This flashbacks must be happening very long ago, because the Endbringers weren’t household names to recoil from. Only Jess seems to know about them, and she explain the circumstances of the Simurgh’s debut.
“The idea was maybe she and Scion met some specific set of conditions. So the whole world watched for something like three days, to see if she would be another Scion, or if she’d be something else. People approached, she even communicated with them some. Not talking, just gestures, I guess. Interacting might be a better word. And when we thought things would be okay, she made a move. The entire population of the city around her, with all the people who had come to talk with her and research her…”
Huh, where does Scion come from, anyway? Maybe he can be classified as an Endbringer, in terms of...what he is. Just that instead of going around destroying everything, he’s a hero. The world back then got pretty lucky the very first parahuman-related person decided to use the powers for good.
The conversation stops when heroes finally come to deal with that enormous problem – the Simurgh must be much stealthier than Leviathan was, if she managed to get here and start destroying before the heroes even got word from it. Just like it happened with the Leviathan fight, the heroes are immediately at a disadvantage, because the Simurgh seems to have sensed them coming, and already prepared to defend herself, killing one of them almost immediately. Perhaps the thing she’s assembling with electronics is part of her defensive strategy? I think so, because the other hero here aims at it.
Time to go inside. Apparently Noelle is quite the catch, as Cody had also tried to woo her and was unsuccessful. Wow, it’s like Francis has triumphed in everything Cody didn’t. No wonder Cody is so goddamn upset.
Getting out of the apartment is easy enough, breaking into another below is harder, as they have to kick the door open.
“It keeps getting worse. The music,” Marissa complained. “It’s like it’s stretching between three notes, and the moment I think there’s a pattern to it, it changes.”
Krouse glanced at Jess. What does she know? To Marissa he said, “It gets worse if you pay attention to it. Focus on what you’re doing. Distract yourself if you have to.”
What’s up with the music? It’s been noted to be changing, adding one note at a time. Is it perhaps a warning to those around? Like, the moment she reaches a certain number of notes, everything will be over? The part about how the song is changing is really making me concerned.
Soon they manage to get inside, ready to keep exploring. At least one person seems to have died in this apartment. Doesn’t matter, because they escape rather easily onto the ground from here. Okay, this went smoothly! Now it’s a matter of running away from where the Simurgh is.
Up there, the Simurgh has progressed, making a circle with her electronics. Like a frisbee? It’s still the heroes’ target, they keep trying and failing to destroy it. During one of the attempts, the hero that uses bubbles of force fields to fight gets struck down and thrown aside, near where the Travelers are, and gets impaled. Ouch.
Wow, for someone who got impaled he sure refuses to accept he’s down. Okay, hopefully this isn’t deadly. He sees the Travelers and tell them to leave or they’re as good as dead. During all that, a device he has tells him it’s too late even if he leaves now.
“I’ll let your wife know you fought bravely. Do you want me to keep a recording for your son, for when he’s older?”
“Dragon! Damn you!”
Oh heeeey, there’s Dragon! How nice to see a familiar hero face. This hero, Grandiose he’s called, isn’t as happy, and I’m sure he’s even less happy when the device starts beeping. Is this...normal? I mean, I’m pretty sure this means the device is going to explode, but it doesn’t seem like normal Endbringer protocol. Maybe the Simurgh does something with the dead bodies, since this one was about to die.
There’s Alexandria! This must be some time after she got her powers from Cauldron, then. The Simurgh fights, throwing her around, and luckily for Alexandria, she’s certain to survive this fight, what with being alive in the present. There’s nothing any of them can do about the Simurgh and her invention, as she finally rises and moves.
“That explosion,” Luke was saying, panting as he ran with a lopsided gait. “They blew up their own person. Why?”
“Because he’d been here too long,” Krouse said.
...I’m not sure what this means. Does it mean that, if you’re in the area where the Simurgh is for too long, you have to die? If the Travelers here are found, will they also be killed? Because I’m pretty sure they have been in the area near the Simurgh for much longer than the hero was. Of course they had to travel around, they had to put as much distance between this city and them, so they don’t die.
Somehow, the Simurgh manages to activate the device she made, a strange donut-shaped thing the heroes are desperate to destroy, so much they forgo the precautions of being near her for too long. The song seems to be the big issue. In that case, yeah, the Travelers are as good as dead if they’re seen. Apparently by now the song they’re hearing has six sounds.
They’re so lucky they already escaped the building, it’s torn apart. If they had still been on it or inside...
The donut the Simurgh made is activated, and its effects soon are seen despite the heroes’ best effort. It’s not a destructive device like I expected, it doesn’t make the city explode or anything. Instead, the Simurgh raises it high, and the device makes things appear. It’s a gate, a portal. And people are falling through it, alongside the debris. Oh, goodness, I didn’t think an Endbringer could do something like building portals.
“How the fuck is she not a tinker!?” Krouse shouted.
“She isn’t!” Jess called back. “She’s never done anything like this before!”
Perhaps it gained this particular skill at some point? As if the Endbringers weren’t scary enough, this one here maybe learned tinker abilities. Nothing like a dangerous thing turning even more dangerous.
Oh, nevermind, those aren’t people, those are monsters, monsters that proceed to roam around and eat each other. Oh hey, what if the Endbringers come from another dimension, and these monsters come from that same dimension? It’s not too farfetched, given what’s going on right now! That there’s ruined architecture is not a good thing, though. It paints quite the grim picture of...whatever place she’s bringing all this from.
Even though Scion breaks the device, the portal doesn’t disappear, it continues pouring so many things. It takes Scion charging and channeling his power to start closing it, but that’s not going to be the end of this. Creatures already passed through and fell everywhere, those will have to be dealt with one by one. Seems to me the heroes are going to do cleanup for quite a while!
The Simurgh’s movement was slowed in the wake of the light, and Scion took the opportunity to land one well placed shot. She was driven into the ground like a nail from a nailgun, somewhere Krouse couldn’t see.
I remember it was said Leviathan was incredibly dense and only got denser after the outer layers. Perhaps the Simurgh is the same? Still, punching an Endbringer is impressive. Way to go, Scion.
More running. They desperately need a hospital, and none of them know where they are right now. Luke suggests the Simurgh threw the building, Jess says that’s not possible because then it’d all have been shattered. I agree with her, I’m still kind of baffled the building just turned ninety degrees in the blink of an eye. If it had been tossed, I’m pretty sure they’d all have noticed something was wrong, and then they’d all have died.
They crossed paths with another monster. A man, pale, with a head twice as large as his torso. His arms and legs were atrophied, and he crawled, dragging his head along the pavement. It looked as though he’d sustained some damage in being flung halfway across the city, his head was nearly caved in at the top, a bloody ruin with fragments of skull sticking out.
“Help me,” the thing pleaded. He reached out with one emaciated hand.
“How?” Marissa asked.
“Mars!” Krouse shouted, “No stalling!”
She ignored him. “How can we help?”
“Give me your memories,” the monster said. Marissa backed away a few steps in alarm. “Give them! I want to dream again! I haven’t dreamed in so long!”
Oh my god. This is no out of nowhere and unfitting with everything, honestly. Suddenly, this that seems to come straight out from a horror tale is here. Okay!
The song they’re hearing in their heads is getting weaker, so either Scion is managing to injure or distract the Simurgh enough to make her stop the song, or they’re almost our of her range. Both would be great! The great news last...like two seconds before they encounter once another obstacle, and one I can’t say I saw coming.
In the distance, on the far side of a park, there were squads of men and women in army fatigues, with jeeps and other army vehicles helping to add presence to the already formidable line of defense. Each of the soldiers was aiming a gun at the fence.
Krouse flinched as a howl sounded, closer than the ones before. Caught between a rock and a hard place. Not to mention Noelle’s condition, or even Luke’s. He winced at the noise in his head. It was quieter, but his stress here, his alarm and confusion, it was making the screaming spike to a brutally high pitch.
“Step away from the fence!” The voice sounded over a loudspeaker, gruff, authoritarian. “This area is under quarantine! Seek shelter and wait for further instructions! If you approach or touch the fence, you will be shot!”
Alright! Everything is quarantined. Hm...the silver lining is that this should mean anything the Simurgh brought will be stopped, and nobody has to worry about those anymore. I hope so, at least. The bad news is that, if there’s a quarantine, then Noelle and Luke won’t get the medical attention they need. Even though they say to await further instructions, this doesn’t seem very good, since...that Grandiose hero from before got killed because he had been in the presence of the Simurgh’s song for too long.
I’m aware the Travelers will survive, so...what if what happens is that they’re all taken away, to be dealt with? And everybody except Cody manage to escape. No signs of any powers yet, and seems to me like the circumstances that can lead to a trigger event are still around. All in all, I keep wondering what’ll happen next. Alright! But that’ll have to be for next time.

REPORT: THE DUSK INCIDENT - 6272696E6B
DISPATCH: To Agent 157-QL-F6
Agent Dusk,
Due to recent events, the Rapid Evening has initiated a new protocol for primary agents. Between assignments, agents will undergo simulations in order to assure that no attachments have been formed between satellite and primary agents. You previously consented to undergo these simulations. After you have completed the simulations that were selected for you, which will double as an evaluation, you will be reassigned.
These simulations are voluntary, and you may withdraw your consent at any point. However, they are also mandatory in order to ensure that you are qualified for future primary assignments. Keep this in mind.

TRAINING SIMULATION: 4457203 - DELTA - RQ
Simulation description:
Open your eyes, AGENT DUSK.
As you can see, this simulation has placed you into a public area that you do not know. This area is not on Kesh, nor is it any area that you have surveilled on any of your previous assignments. If you recognize it from a previous assignment, you must say so now.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Uhhh, nope, looks all clear to me. What am I supposed to be looking for here?]
This simulation has not yet entered the interactive phase. Please wait for the simulation guidelines to complete.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Yeah, yeah, whatever. You said I’ve done this before?]
All primary agents must complete these simulations.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: If you say so.]
Confirmed: no recognition. Thank you, AGENT DUSK. As you examine your sur
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Wait, have I been here before? (OUTPUT: no response permitted. Simulation continues.)]
roundings, take note of the civilian population. Take note of the architecture. While Crystal Palace will undoubtedly know where you are, the Rapid Evening may not know where to look for you. You must be able to guide them to you.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: O… kay, this seems weird. This definitely seems weird. (OUTPUT: no response required. Agent complaints noted. Simulation continues.)]
Take a breath. Notice how it feels in your lungs. You must learn to understand atmospheres. No two atmospheres are the same, not even on the same planet.
Breathe in again. Are you cold? You should not be cold. Or perhaps you should. What would you guess, based on the simulation? You must learn to guess.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: If Crystal Palace knows everything, why do I need to know how to guess what’s in an atmosphere?]
You are far too skilled to ask such questions, AGENT DUSK.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Ha! If you say so.]
The Rapid Evening would not work with you if you were not skilled.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Yeah, whatever. I’m looking around, I’m assessing, I’m… holy shit, Gray? (ALERT. RECOGNITION. ALERT.)]
AGENT DUSK, there is nobody here by the name of Gray.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: It… (subject inhales) nobody?]
Nobody.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Fuck. Okay. I don’t… know what that was. Sorry, sim. (ALERT: Downgraded by one level. Subject recognition is not sustained. Simulation has maintained integrity.)]
Are you able to continue, AGENT DUSK?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: (subject exhales) Yeah. Yeah, I’m good.]
Simulation assessment: The initial recognition could potentially be problematic. Agent Dusk is too powerful an asset to lose to something as simple as sentiment. See what you can do.

TRAINING SIMULATION: 9950524 - UPSILON - TT
Simulation description:
Open your eyes, AGENT DUSK.
You are in a standard primary agent observation cell. You have received technical training on all of the equipment that is available to you. Do you understand how to work this equipment?
[VISUAL NOTE: Agent Dusk appears to reach automatically for the audio recorder. This is, again, a potential issue, given her history; agent’s action has been noted.]
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I don’t think you would give me this job if I didn’t understand how this stuff worked. Are you sure that I have to go through this every time?]
This is standard for all primary agents, AGENT DUSK.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Are you sure it is? I don’t remember going through this any previous times.]
These simulations are not designed to be remembered.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: What’s that supposed to mean? (OUTPUT: no response permitted. Simulation continues.)]
Over the next six hours, you will be in touch with a simulated satellite agent. This simulation is designed to examine your interactions with your satellite agent.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: What’s the point of doing this if I don’t remember?]
You do not consciously remember, AGENT DUSK. That is not the same thing as not remembering at all. You are receiving a transmission from your satellite agent.
[VISUAL NOTE: Agent Dusk reaches for an old-style ink-and-paper printer, which is printing out a binary message. Scanning binary message: 01000010 01010010 01001001 01001110 01001011 ALERT. ALERT. SIMULATION HAS BEEN BREACHED. SIMULATION HAS B
Simulation notes: Some work to do on this one. Obviously.

[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Uh… what am I supposed to be looking at here?]
This is what you need to remember.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I thought I wasn’t supposed to remember these.]
I don’t think I did this right.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: ...sim?]
Listen, I’m going to give it another shot with the next one. But for now, this is what you need to remember.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Gray? Is that… is that you?]
No, but she’s going to be so fucking relieved that you remember her. Look at the blueprints, Demani.
[ALERT. SIMULATION HAS BEEN BREACHED. SIMULATION H
Yeah, yeah, you fucking piece of mesh bullshit, I get it.

[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Yeah, god, I’m reading the blueprints, can you quiet down for a minute and let me read?]
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: ...you still here?]
You asked for quiet.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I guess I did.]
I don’t know how much longer you have, so just… read the blueprints, okay? I’ll be back in the next sim. Or the one after.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Am I going to remember this?]
If you don’t, we’ll get it back for you. That’s a promise.
I don’t think the blueprints are going to last.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I’ve got enough.]
Okay. Stay safe in here.
Simulation notes: Increase defenses. Prepare for stratus attack. They will try again. Agent Dusk is an asset. Why is this so fucking difficult to understand?

TRAINING SIMULATION: 6302841 - KAPPA - ERROR. ERROR. SIMULATION HAS BEEN ALTERED.
Simulation description:
Demani?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Morning’s?]
Holy shit. I did it. Oh my god, Demani, we thought they fucking brain-zapped you or something, we thought that you had amnesia or some shit.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I don’t think they could zap me that hard. It’s all still a little fuzzy, but this… this is the Brink, isn’t it?]
Yeah, it is. You remember it?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: It’s like remembering a dream.]
No dream. Or, well, a metaphorical dream, but not a literal one, because it’s a very, very real place. You scared the shit out of us, you know that? Gray kept saying that she thought they’d try and take her, something about synthetic beings being easier to overwrite like this.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Let’s not underestimate the sheer power of scientific bullshit that Crystal Palace can get up to.]
Yeah, I guess. But in the meantime, just… sit down for a while, okay? Gray’s on her way, you have the blueprints - uh, you still remember the blueprints, right? How to get from here to the hangar?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I remember enough. Is there a reason I can’t see you?]
It’s because doing this is giving me the most killer migraine I’ve ever had, and I’ve had some pretty killer migraines.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Shit, then why-]
Because if I stop, then I don’t know if the simulation is going to be able to actually impact you again. And I can, like, take a nap or something on the way home. I think I’d rather take a nap on the way home than let this go too early.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Fine, but if you’re with Gray you’d better make sure she’s keeping an eye on you.]
Oh, she didn’t even want me doing this much. Thought the blueprints would be enough. But I forgot to give you a timeframe, and that’s kind of just embarrassing, so I made up an excuse - don’t tell her any of this, she’s going to give me so much shit for going in again. But mostly I just wanted to… to actually talk to you correctly.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: (subject exhales) I’m okay, Mor.]
Are you? Like, are you actually?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: I think so.]
Okay, well. Hang tight. I’m going to try and maintain this for as long as I can. As soon as it drops, you gotta be ready to go, okay?
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Don’t hurt yourself, alright? I can get out just fine.]
It’s total bullshit that you’re taking care of me right now. You’re the one who got kidnapped. Just… rest up. Don’t worry about me, I’m going to pass out as soon as this is dropped, anyways.
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: What do you mean, don’t worry, you’re just going to pass out for fun?]
It’s not gonna be fun-
[AUDIO INPUT - DEMANI DUSK: Jesus fucking Christ.]
Yeah, I know. I know.
We’ll get you home soon.

Interviews
DVC Major: Bridget Hassely
1. What would you have liked to know about the DVC program before coming here?
I would have liked to have known how important process books are. For some reason, it wasn't made clear to me we had to keep our process books for portfolio review. I deconstructed my first two books to reuse the folder. After I found out that we needed them, I had to piece back together what I saved and reprint my files.
2. What would you like to know about the professional design world?
I would like to know just how many pathways there are to take with this degree. There are so many options and hearing people talk about their experience with the pathway they chose is very interesting to me.
3. What is the hardest concept in design to understand?
The hardest concept in design for me is using the grid to the best of its ability. I tend to stick with my trusty columnar grid, but I would like to venture out more and get used to using all the different types that might be better for specific projects.
4. Which Adobe program would you like to learn more about? Why?
I want to learn more about Photoshop. We learned the basics in Art 118, but Photoshop has so many more tools that would probably be beneficial to me that I want to learn and understand how to use them.
5. What is the most helpful design tool in your opinion (such as a type ruler)?
The most helpful design tool, in my opinion, is a sketchbook. Documenting your inspiration, thought process, ideations, and reflections is critical. IT gets it out of your head and onto a physical space where you can come back to and expand off of.
6. What keyboard shortcuts do you always forget?
A keyboard shortcut I somehow always forget is the arrow key (selection tool), which is V. Also, why are the shortcuts different between the Adobe programs?!?!
7. What stores would you have liked to know about Freshman year?
I would have liked to have known about the architecture store and the arts and crafts studio.
8. What are some fun design elements you look for in a handbook?
Some fun design elements I look for in a handbook are interactive bits, jokes, imagery, useful tips, and space to answer questions.
9. What driving factor would make you carry around a DVC handbook?
A driving factor that would make me carry around a DVC handbook would be its usefulness. Having information that I could frequently look back to or something that I have to fill out over time would make it more useful for me.
10. What was the hardest part about taking introduction to DVC courses?
The hardest part about taking introduction to DVC courses for me was adjusting to the time commitment that design is. Design is not mechanical and can take many attempts, variations, and refinements. Procrastination is hard to avoid, but giving yourself enough time to work through the design process will make your work so much better.
DVC Graduate: Kayleigh Kvool
1. What are important aspects to include in a graphic designer resume? Is it true that design employers pay more attention to the look of the resume than the content?
All of your skills. All of your experiences, work experience, and other related experiences done through school. I have an exhibit section where I put my DVC2 and DVC3 showcase. If you look at a job description, make sure you have the skills on the resume that they want. Yes, but not totally. It should be very clean. Lots of simplification. You want it to be simple. A lot of resumes go through scanners, and you want it to be legible.
2. Do you have trouble looking for a graphic design job?
I wouldn’t say it is hard. It’s competitive. Put yourself out there and take chances.
3. Do you think the UWM DVC program prepared you well?
Yes. The improvements I have seen in the program has only made it more preparatory for designers. I love the Dream Lab. Professional Practices with Amy was the most preparatory thing ever. I took that class my last semester before graduating.
4. What was your favorite DVC class? Why?
DVC 3 was my favorite. I really thought it was valuable to work in a group. The manifesto was fun. It was the most work, but the work you make in that class you are the most proud of.
5. Which teacher helped you the most in gaining design knowledge?
Robert Grame. He gave me a lot of one-on-one feedback. He kept my ideas focused and doable. I do think it is important to have a mix of people.
6. What places would you recommend for internships?
Union Marketing was basically it. I also got six credits doing it.
7. Do you do freelance work often?
I am open to it. I am still trying to figure out what is an appropriate amount to charge. Everyone tells me to not undersell myself. If I would do freelance for a company, I would charge $40 an hour. The minimum is $20 an hour. If I was still a student, I would charge $15 or $20. Now that I am graduated, I would charge $40 or $45.
8. What is your favorite part about being a graphic designer?
I think that my favorite part is that I get to be creative and make my impact by representing communities. People have a negative outlook on advertising. It is nice to try and make a positive contribution.
9. If you could choose what job you could have right now, what would it be?
It would definitely be with Z2 Marketing as a Design Director. It only requires two years of experience. I am very qualified for it. An art direction position right out of college would be very stellar.
Design Professional or Entrepreneur: Mary Adamczak
1. What is an average day in the office like?
It’s different every day! Each day I have my list of projects to tackle. My time is dictated by the client’s deadline. The hottest project gets my attention first. I also will get interrupted to review other projects that are in the works to discuss with our creative director and other designers. I do have to say my colleague brings his dog to work most mornings which is fun. The dog runs around the office to greet everyone. She also will bounce balloons, like she’s some star volleyball player. The rest of the day she doesn’t make a peep in her kennel, until she leaves for the day. Then we get greeted one more time before going home.
2. Which method do you use most when working with your clients, email or in person conversations?
I would say it’s mostly email. I typically do not present a lot of creative here, but I do attend meetings and will be involved in the discussions of the projects with clients.
3. How long does the average project take?
Hmm, that’s a hard one. I’ve spent hours on jobs and under an hour on jobs. One rough logo exploration could take a couple days - but exploring variations is what takes more time. A 12-page brochure could take 3 -4 days or so for the design only (with copy supplied) A small website (design only), not programming could take 3-4 days (with copy supplied) And this is without interruptions!
4. How would you describe your role as a graphic designer?
I’m a creative / a designer, sometimes a creative director, a project coordinator, print coordinator and sometimes a project manager. So, I wear many hats.
5. Which clients do you work with the most?
We mostly have corporate and tourism clients at the moment. Some projects are ongoing but, some are on a project by project basis. We also have done some specialty hard cover book projects for specialty events and sports teams which is challenging but rewarding in the end!
6. What is the biggest project you ever had?
A corporation that made an acquisition and they needed to send out a bunch of collateral out in 13 different languages. This included a Corporate Folder which housed a letter from the CEO, A Code to Ethics brochure and a corporate brochure. This was a lot of coordination! We had to work with the printer to have it all shipped out to the different countries. Also, working on specialty hard cover books. These are big projects that can take up to a year to concept, design, get approved and printed.
7. What made you want to go into graphic design?
I’m a creative person and wanted to do get paid for something I love to do.
8. Where did you study? How did your education prepare you for your current career?
I received my Bachelor’s Degree from MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art + Design). I had 2 really good graphic design teachers who saw my work ethic and worked with me to show me what really good, high level design should look like.
9. What is the biggest lesson you have learned as a graphic designer?
I’m not sure there’s a lesson I’ve learned. I do know that design is subjective but, it takes a good eye and an openness to exploration to see good design. Never assume your design is good, just because your hands are creating it. Always step back and see how you can make it better and more successful. And be open to constructive criticism from your peers - it will make you a better designer.
10. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Other good design. I really enjoy looking at Commarts.com (Communication Arts Magazine).
11. How many sketchbooks do you have, completed and currently in use?
I go through a lot of notebooks, not just for sketching, but for making my daily lists, jotting down thoughts, ideas and sketching out home related things that I want to figure out. I’ve sketched out how I want our outdoor Christmas lights to look, our kitchen configuration, and some of our garden beds. You can use creativity in so many ways!
12. What is your favorite Adobe program? Why?
Hmm. I think I like InDesign the most because I use it the majority of the time. But, Illustrator is a close second, as I love designing logos in this program.
13. What was something unexpected you learned when starting out?
How quickly projects are needed - tight deadlines.
14. What types of projects do you enjoy working on the most?
The ones that have extra time! And the ones that have more creative opportunities. Projects that are more open-ended, not defined. That gives me more creative freedom.
15. What is your favorite part about being a graphic designer?
Being creative and being able to design. I love taking a blank page and designing something that is creative, unique and relevant.

Explicrypto
Explicrypto is a mobile application which supports Android platform and was built using Android Studio. It can encrypt all your explicit images in the gallery, thus protecting your privacy. Explicrypto can be one of the best applications to trust your privacy with, as it does not internet connection to work. The processing of the image which includes, nudity detection, encryption, and decryption, happens within your device with no contact with the outside world. Due to which, it is very safe to use. Explicryto works in two modes, one is manual mode and the other one is an automatic mode.
In manual mode, first the user needs to grant all the required permissions to the application, for the first time, then the user needs to click a picture using the application. Once the picture is clicked it will be displayed on the next screen. Now, the user can click on “Classify” button to check whether the image is safe or not. As soon as the user clicks on classify button, the image is sent to MobileNet model (which is converted into a TFLite format to support Android). The MobileNet model, then gives the output in three categories Safe, Unsafe, and other along with the confidence at which the model is classifying. If the model classifies an image in unsafe category, then it gives a message that the image is unsafe, and it should be encrypted. Based on those reading, it is up to the user to decide, whether to encrypt the image or not. If the user decides to encrypt the image, the image vanishes from the application and is successfully and safely encrypted. The encryption technique used bas basic and was based on a randomly generated hash key. For decryption, you need to select the path of encrypted files and need to click on “Decrypt” button to decrypt the image. The image is decrypted using the same hash key as used while encrypting the file. Once the image is decrypted, it will again display in the application window.
In automatic mode, it uses the same architecture as in the manual mode. It will also require permission to read and write files. In this mode, the application will work in the background and will scan though the entire gallery. Each image from the gallery will be sent as an input to the MobileNet model and it will give an output whether the image is safe or not with the confidence level. Based on confidence level, it will decide whether to encrypt the image or not. If the image falls under unsafe category, it will automatically encrypt it. To decrypt the image, user again needs to open the application and select the path of decrypted image, to decrypt it.
I have decided my project life cycle to follow Agile approach because I am developing my project in different phases so iterative and incremental approach would be best for my project. Since each phase of my project requires is independent from each other so it can be delivered individually and frequently, which can help me get feedback from the user so that I can enhance the application while delivering the next phase. The design and execution of the project is very simple, and it is not dealing with any kind of complex architecture which makes it well suited for agile approach.
Explicrypto requires a very basic setup. The application only runs on Android devices with Android version 5.0 or above. Currently it is not supported on Apple devices, but will be released for iOS in future updates. The application also requires permission from the user to access device's storage and permission to read and write files on the device which is necessary for encryption and decryption. To use the application on manual mode it is assumed that the camera is fully functional to click pictures. The processing (including detection of nudity inside a picture, encryption and decryption) solely depends on the hardware which your phone is using.
All the necessary information about the Explicrypto including its code, was kept in a public repository called Github. All the changes and updates that was made in code, starting from its initial phase was committed in the repository so that a proper track of the project could be maintained. Each commit in Github was well descripted about the changes made or about adding new modules into the code.
Explicrypto has one of the most user-friendly interfaces. It provides just four buttons for quick and easy interaction in manual mode. With just four buttons, it’s very straight forward to guess their functionality with minimum interaction. One button is to click the picture while the application is open and another one will be to scan the images in the background. Once the image is classified then the user can choose whether to encrypt the image or not by either pressing or not pressing the encrypt button. To decrypt the file, the user just needs to select the path of the file by pressing a decrypt button and the file will be decrypted back to its original form. It is very easy to use because, as soon as the user opens up the application, the application will bring the user directly to the page where there is a camera open which is ready to take the picture and three buttons on the bottom of the screen. As mentioned previously, those buttons will let the user decide whether they want to classify, encrypt, or decrypt the image. These four buttons will provide the easiness of using the application without having any knowledge about technologies.
The remaining work of my project only includes work from the automatic mode. As the data set which I have used to train my model is not huge and user can click any kind of pictures, due to which the model might not be 100% accurate, all the time. Which might lead to the faulty encryption of image files. And sense my gallery has thousands of images it would be a very hectic work manually decrypt all the images which word encrypted accidentally by the application. So, my remaining work is to expand my data set and retrain my model again and again so that it covers all the possible cases for accurate classification.
TIMELINE
Week 1
In the first week of the project, I spent most of the time discussing about the domain on which I should do my project on. I was not sure that whether it has to a project related to machine learning only or it could be something else. As per the instructions given to us in the first week by our mentor and HOD Dr. Deepak sir, it was not mandatory to make a machine learning project. He guided us that our capstone project may not need to be just about developing applications or doing research. Which instantiated wide range of ideas in my mind, and spent time deciding that only.
Week 2
During the second week of the project, I spent time talking to others about the domain only. But this time I was taking the suggestion and advice of my friends. They were giving feasible suggestions on how I should be more focused on getting a better job and equally dedicates the time to the project. As most of the them were prioritizing job over the project, it led me into confusion about the domain of the project. While having one-to-one interaction with faculty mentors in our project lab, they suggested me the domain of my project. They said that it should be Machine Learning as I am doing my specialization on Machine Learning and Data Analytics (MLDA).
Week 3
During the week three of my project, I was busy deciding on which sub-field of machine learning I should make my project on and whom should I approach for mentorship. In the previous semester Dr. Shridhar sir used to take or classes of Deep Learning, so I thought that it would be the best to approach him as he could guide me more efficiently on how I should move ahead with my project. Initially it was on me to bring the idea to him and get his opinion on that. After few days of research, I decided that I should work on the developing education content on genetic algorithm in machine learning as I was fascinated about the working of that algorithm.
Week 4
In week four, I presented my idea about developing education content to Shridhar sir, but he wasn’t much impressed as my idea was not feasible in the market. Then I came up with the idea of making an application which will tell you what to eat in your area depending on the reviews of people. This idea was again unsuccessful as there was no novelty in it. At last Dr. Shridhar sir suggested me to make a project to protect private pictures of people getting leaked on the internet. For which he told me to make an application which detects the explicit images and encrypt them automatically in the phone. So, I took that suggestion and finalized my project idea and domain and wrote my milestone one report on that.
Week 5
In the fifth week of the project, after submitting the report on my milestone one, the companies started coming for the placements. Now I had to manage the research work on the project and parallely manage the placements exam and interview. As I applied in most of the companies, I was not getting enough time to devote to my project. But during the entire week I read some online paper and searched though Github to get references from the related project. Also, I downloaded the required setups which were necessary for the development of the application, like Android Studio, Gitbash, etc.
Week 6
In the sixth week of the project, I bought some online courses related to the android development course and how to apply machine learning on android as android studio by default does not support machine learning. First, I started with the basics of the android development and learnt how to design basic application by adding functionalities like button, label, textfield, background color, etc. Once I gained the required knowledge, I started building the application. The application just has the basic layout. Initially, when I was preparing the android studio on supporting the machine learning algorithm, I was encountering many errors and had to look up on internet several times to tackle those errors and set up the application.
Week 7
In the seventh week of the project, and the sixth week as well, I had very less time to devote to the project as during the day time, I was busy with the interviews of different companies and I during the evening time, I had to attend extra classes that were arranged for the training of the placement process. Apart from the placement processes I spent time in deciding which model should I use for the training of my application. As Google’s Tensorflow offer many models which you can train to perform tasks like image classification and detection. So, I decided that it would better to use the model from the Tensorflow itself as only those models can be deployed to mobile device using Tensorflow library.
Week 8
In the eighth week of the project, I cloned few models from the Github and tried to understand how they are working buy running them on android studio. I was figuring out how they are providing input to the model. Also, I had to do documentation of milestone two with research work. The research work is still in progress. Apart from that I downloaded my dataset and trained MobileNet model from Tensorflow on my laptop. To test the working of the model I gave the image as an input to the model and it predicted the correct output. Then I downloaded a demo application from Github and imported my model into that and tested on live data and it predicted correct most of the time.
Week 9
During the next week, i.e. week nine, I continued with more research work and learning more about the Tensorflowlite library and about its uses and functionality. As it is the first time I am working on a mobile application, I went through the online courses and brush up my skills on developing and enhancing the user interface for my android application. As I still haven’t figured out how to give input to the model in android application, I looked for some more projects to find out the answer. Also, I referred to the YouTube videos for the same.
Week 10
In the week ten I implemented the model in my application. While implementing the model I checked for errors or bugs that might occur while feeding input to the model. Once the model is implemented and it is working perfectly fine on all the input images. I retrained the model on bigger and better dataset because it was trained on smaller dataset for the purpose of testing and compatibility. So, my primary focus on the week ten was to implement the model in the application and assuring that it is working fine and performing the required task in real-time.
Week 11
In the week eleven, I focused to implement the technique of encryption in my project. For that I again did the research work and checked for the proper encryption technique that would be feasible with my project. The proper encryption technique is essential so the application must run in the real time. It should not take lots of computation time while encrypting the images. I also referred to YouTube and GitHub, if some help is required. Along with the encryption technique I had to secure the file for decryption in the device itself so that hackers won’t get access to the file easily.
Week 12
During the last week of the project I focused on final testing and debugging of the project. I performed Whitebox testing on the project and investigate codes for errors and bugs. Once the application is free from systematic errors. I performed Blackbox testing which would be like beta testing. I allowed my friends and family member to use the application in whatever way they like and will record their feedback. After getting the feedback I did the require changes. Once the process of debugging and testing is done, I finalized my application for the final evaluation.

On Good Terms and Conditions
The Uptake, With Symbiotic Self-Indulgence. Book III, Chapter 5. Go to previous. Go to next.
TW’s for lots of needle-related triage descriptions, and for bombing mention.
“–My shoe.”
‘Choly looked at the injured leg he could no longer move. The sole had separated from the one mint green creeper still on his left foot. He crooked his toes through his right sock and frowned.
“Should be the least of your worries.”Still carrying ‘Choly in his arms, Augen sighed and glanced down at the reader screen in ‘Choly’s hands. “Hey, the alerts stopped. How quick did the city suppress the signal?”
“Honestly? It feels more like the stalkers only had so much juice, and the equipment flatlined.” ‘Choly pursed his mouth shut and huffed a breath through flared nostrils. Doing his best to dismiss both his physical and material slights, he shut his eyes. “It’s the next left. …I think it’s broken.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised. You should probably try to get into the ER for yourself while we’re here. …Not to bring attention to it, but you’re missing your glasses now, too, you know.”
‘Choly went slack in Augen’s arms in exasperation.
“Worst April Fool’s Day ever.” The dreg twitched again. “Wait, no. They’re in my bag.”
“Mmh, I doubt in one piece.”
Augen turned as directed down an alley which led out back into the sidewalks.
"Why did you off-tare the flatbed?"
The hybrid rolled his eyes with a lyrical scoff.
"If you even need to ask, I don't even know you anymore."
'Choly stared up dully at him, perplexed by his immediate impulse to frustration. They could both tell they were close to the hospital, owing to the chaotic and congested treadless emergency vehicle traffic, including several high volume buses allotted the abrupt task of transporting the injured. Boxed both by the sirens and the lights, ‘Choly let the anger melt away as he shrank into Augen’s chest and shut his cataracted eyes.
Manhattan Premier was built atop the bloated sprawl of Wall Street, which had glutted the first seven levels of Manhattan. Like Tri-City, New York City could be termed a fusion city in many regards, with its different boroughs vying amid a rich pentych of skyward development. Unlike the sprawling, uneven union of Jersey City, Elizabeth, and Newark, however, New York’s intricate lattice work had been planned out with extensive deliberateness. The city received an entire uniform level addition any time one was added, and treadless traffic wholly dictated the entire architectural blueprint of the boxy, uniform, and nearly deco metropolis. Where Tri-City struggled with public transport, New York had transfigured it into an art form with a perfect combination of pedestrian platforms and passage arches. No city of this size was a stranger to the otherworldly aura of Wolfram concrete, and here, it stylized the keystones of every arch.
Augen thought to himself whether having hailed a cab or hitched a bus would have yielded them any faster transit, but the subsequent increase in social interaction from doing so in a situation like this convinced him they’d made the right choice. The last thing either of them needed right then was to get harassed by people seeing a stalker and a hybrid trying to get to a hospital, and see a route to vent frustration.
They rounded one more corner to the right to locate the cubic building they sought. Normally, the endearingly branded ‘The HP’ pulsated with a comforting network of geometric soft white lines which traced the general layout of the windows of the patient rooms, but tonight, these bands of light repeated a solid slowly chasing gradient of red and blue. The two tried to pretend they didn’t notice each other huff in unison as they approached the covered-over emergency entrance. The vampire adjusted the shawl over his head and did his best to ferret within the crowd to at least get inside the building. In the emergency room waiting room, a nurse in a pale pink scrubs jumpsuit directed arrivals in a stern but compassionate tone with a BLT visor which connected to the overhead. Three other nurses moved about the waiting room to take admissions from those who couldn’t get to the desk.
“Remember that patients are seen to by the hierarchy of the severity of their emergency, and that tonight this will by far be dictated by those seeking care from the tragedy that pulled the plug on Tri-City tonight. Find someone in our trademark uniform. All of us will be fielding any questions we can at this time, and The HP appreciates both your patience and patronage.”
Agape in dread, ‘Choly stared at the waiting room television. ‘Hundreds dead, thousands injured, in Tri-City bombing.’ The Web coverage played over and over a sequence of the rolling smoke pillar, the multi-level fire fighting efforts, the emergency vehicle storm, and aerial views of the fusion city in blackout. He mouthed the word bombing and stopped blinking. When Augen squirmed past one of the nurses to get to the admissions desk, he brushed ‘Choly’s broken leg against someone’s shoulder. The dreg seethed trying not to holler, and his face ran wet and hot in an instant. The nurse’s attention snapped onto them, and he approached them.
“No headwear in–” The nurse got quiet when he recognized hybrid features up close, and shifted focus to ‘Choly. “Leg injury. You two look roughed up. Give me a brief summary of what happened, so I can pencil in your admission.”
“–It’s broken,” the dreg wheezed, sweating from the pain. “We–”
“–We were trying to get home when the power went out. Trapped in a lift for hours. Once we finally got outside, gunfire broke out. Real guns. –I think they were aiming for me.” Augen couldn’t suppress his trembling at that point, a mixture of poker face and guilt. “I’m sorry for the shawl, but–”
“No, no. I’ll allow it for the moment. I’m sorry.” The nurse swiped a few glyphs across the outside of the visor, and pulled up a fresh document to get started. “Second degree patient,” he dictated to the screen. “From Tri-City, but injury not incurred from the bombing. State your name and identification for the file.”
“M– Melancholy. Melancholy Kara. I have papers, I–” When ‘Choly faltered, Augen fished up the bag into his friend’s lap to facilitate digging in it. He made a face, but produced his reader, and tapped at it with forceful deliberation. “Screen cracked. We both fell trying to run away from the– whatever that was. Here.” He read off the serial number from his citizenship certification.
“You don’t have your serial memorized?” the nurse asked a little too pointedly, sweeping through more illuminated gestures in the laminated and slightly curved interlit glass. “There you are, Mister Kara. Come with me to Triage.” He motioned for them to follow him through the double swing doors.
“–I can’t even argue at this point about bein’ billable,” ‘Choly grunted out. He managed to get his reader back in his bag before falling limp in Augen’s arms again, then whispered, “Glasses are, in fact, broken.”
“Here, in trundle seven. Set him down and we’ll get started with diagnostics. I’m Trevor, by the way.”
“–Trevor, can we get started with how bad it hurts?” He wheezed nasally as Augen did as instructed, and he floundered back on the bed and pillow wrapped in quilted paper. With a viscous sniff, he squinted to the nurse. “I’m havin’ trouble breathin’ with my face runnin’ like this.”
Trevor waved a wand-like implement over one part of ‘Choly, starting with his face, then held it up to his visor to load the collected data, and did this about a dozen times, mostly with his head and leg.
“Dilated eyes and lowered heart rate indicate substance use. Any pharmacological allergies?”
“Nnnot that I know of. –It was jus’ confec.” Very, very concentrated confec, anyway.
“We were stressing out in the elevator,” Augen added, finding a corner of the curtain-drawn room to withdraw into and watch without getting in the way. “The HP isn’t here to judge what you were doing or how you got here. How recently did you take the confec? The power outage started four hours ago.”
“Shortly after that, I guess. Almost four hours, yeah.”
“For many reasons I can’t in good conscience administer opioids, but I can get you situated with a local anesthetic in preparation of the doctor coming in to oversee the injury itself. The scans indicate the tibia is fractured, and that the bullet got lodged. The doctor will be able to give a more complete description of what damage was done.” Trevor set the wand down on the bed and leaned down over the end of the bed, over ‘Choly’s left leg. “I’m going to need you to remove your pants. Do you want me to help with that, or would you rather your friend do it?”
“I’ll do it.” He floundered weakly at removing his shoe, not succeeding even that far without being reduced to further sniveling. “–Both of you–” he whined. The two of them rushed forward to assist him, and once his lower half got down to socks and underwear, Trevor gave him a hospital blanket to cover up his lap. The nurse excused himself to retrieve the anesthesia, and returned with a syringe of clear fluid.
"This is Trylocaine." The nurse uncapped the needle and squared up to ragged edges of the bleeding entry point on his left shin. "Just a little to start with. I'm going to inject it into the damaged area."
'Choly couldn't even muster a squirm as Trevor did as described. A short flightiness built up in his tailbone as the numbness set in, and he sighed, sinking into the hospital bed.
"That should tide you over while you wait for the doctor. The wound irrigation will also contain Trylocaine."
'Choly thanked him. When he looked up, he stopped short of resuming conversation, finding that Augen had excused himself. Rather than let it irritate him, he shut his eyes in resignation. Soon after, he darted alert at the sound of footsteps.
"Melancholy Kara?" A woman in a BLT visor and white jumpsuit let herself in, carrying a reader. He nodded, and she sat the reader down in the file-slot at the foot of the bed before sitting down herself. "I'm Dr. Thornton. From what the nurse wrote in your entry doc, you've had an action-packed evening despite not having been anywhere near the explosion."
"Best I can think is the chaos has got everybody in a panic." He struggled to be vague and poetic, rather than specific. "People... people take on strange natures when terrible things happen."
"For better, and for worse," she agreed, putting on nitrile gloves. She looked over the wound, and 'Choly noticed while he'd had his eyes shut, a nurse had set up a tray of implements beside the bed in anticipation of Thornton. She drew the scans and data Trevor had pulled from 'Choly across her visor, and nodded with resolution. "The bullet is still in there, and we're dealing with a displaced broken bone. I'm going to debride the entry site with some saline with a little Trylocaine in it, then use a pair of tweezers to extract the foreign object. With me so far?"
"It's broken," he repeated. "Yeah, go for it, I guess."
Thornton did as described. She rinsed the injury using a soft plastic bottle of anesthesia-laced water, and steadied his leg with one hand while she reached into the shin injury with tweezers in the other. Her grip tightened when his discomfort exceeded his tolerance level, and he felt a nauseating tension as she succeeded in the same motion. With a dull clink, she set the bullet on some gauze on the tray. She asked if he needed more time before she debrided again, and he shook his head no, welcoming the numbing effect of the cleaning solution. It didn't make it stop hurting, but he could at least sit still. The doctor pulled out the reader and read over a few documents before sighing and straightening where she sat on the stool.
"Now, we've got two more steps. I know you're in a lot of pain right now, so I'll make it quick. The second thing we have to do is close up the injury. And the third thing we have to do is reset that bone so the pieces can go back together. The bullet did a number on your tibia. I called it a displaced fracture--but that's usually a clean break in two pieces. The bullet crushed the bone a bit, and under normal circumstances it would require surgery to get it all aligned, remove the sharp bits of bone. You're not on file for any healthcare plans, so your billing needs inform how we proceed. While the stitches are straightforward, there are two options for getting the bone to where it will heal. If you settle out a deferred payment plan, surgery and physical therapy will likely take about six months. But we have an alternative treatment which has the chance of your recovery only taking about two months. The reason I'm asking now rather than after I've closed it up is, I need the open wound as the site for the procedure to be minimally invasive."
He made brief eye contact with her before looking around the room. Neither Cecil nor Augen was here to advise him. His first billable decision, with no witness. He dry swallowed and squirmed.
"I understand it's a hard decision, especially if you haven't made it before. In light of the tragedy, the HP has extended a wide variety of alternative treatments. No one ever expects things like this to happen, and the cost can catch even the wealthy off-guard. Mmh, the admissions nurse didn't catch your vocation."
"--Librarian," he choked out.
"--Slag, I almost blurted out that you dodged a bullet." The two of them barked a stress-laugh. "Librarian... Even if you were overseeing ISP-level servers, the creds-only deferred plan would take you five years to pay off."
"My boyfriend's the head of Physical Copies," he bleated, slurring delirium. "He was... still on shift."
"Degrees of separation..." Her voice cracked. "I hate to have you make this decision amid this kind of gravity, but I think he'd want us patching you up just as badly as you want us to do the same of him."
"You... you're right..." His head swam with contemplating what kind of figures she was talking. He couldn't be that level of financial burden on anyone, let alone Cecil. "I... have to go with the alternative."
She set the reader in his lap, and separated a stylus from the side well to hand him.
"There's seven signatures in this doc for you to provide before I can continue. You needn't worry reading it all over right now. You'll receive a copy in your email upon discharge."
'Choly sped through the lengthy terms and conditions screen, skimming for dotted lines, and he added his name where indicated. Such a document came customary to hospital visits, he'd heard. He got the gist of it in places. In exchange for the steep discount, he was forfeiting his ability to file a lawsuit against the hospital. That was fair, he supposed. You pay for what you get, and you get what you pay for.
Once 'Choly had provided what was required, Thornton sent for a nurse to bring the agreed-upon kit. The nurse brought her a reader-size aluminum case, which she folded out on the C-table. The case included the full gamut of fiberoptics, tweezers, filaments, and the patent pending organometallic bone pin. She administered another injected dose of Trylocaine to the injury site, then hooked the fiberoptic lens to her visor, and got to work rooting around inside his leg through the hole Leigh had left in him.
"Can I keep the bullet?" he asked after a while, staring off at the ceiling since he couldn't see his own leg.
"You don't want the police to process it and find who shot you?"
"I really... don't care. Tonight's chaos. People are doing all kinds of things they wouldn't normally. But I dunno. It fascinates me, to keep something like that." Deep down, he didn't want anyone to find out who shot him.
"Due process is the least of my concerns tonight," she relented with a jabbing laugh. "Keep your souvenir, Melancholy."
'Choly smiled broad, prickly all over from the cumulative effect of the anesthetic. After a spell, Thornton shifted implements, and he tried to watch. She'd already started stitching him up by the time he recognized it, and he observed with a slight frown.
"An... interrupted simple suture. That's a terrible stitch for that amount of tearing."
Thornton looked at him, frozen between indignity and confusion.
"You'd rather I did a different stitch?" was the best response she could form.
"In case you haven't noticed, my skin sucks. You're better off with a vertical continuous mattress, if you can manage it."
"It's... more likely to leave a noticeable scar."
"Look at me and tell me I mind one more scar. All I care about is whether it heals up right."
She shrugged and snipped the two stitches she'd already made, then started fresh.
"You're lucky I'm fast with mattress, or I'd say no, because it would keep me from other patients that much longer. You know more about stitches than most people I sew up, and I'm going to take your word for what you have experience with healing better. I was mistaken in my presumption this was your first billable encounter."
"You weren't. Up until tonight, I've stitched myself up."
"Is this... skin condition a result of--" She grappled for tact. "You weren't born with this elasticity, were you."
"No, I'm a Wolframite. I was born with Ehlers, though. The pesticide just made everything worse."
"It's got to be fragile, for you to have these railroad lines all over you. You should let a professional take care of tears in the future. I don't think even the average emergency room doctor could do cosmetically accurate stitches on themselves. It really takes dexterity you can't get one-handed, or in a mirror."
"I'm not all that concerned. This is the first time I've really had a tear where I couldn't easily reach it myself. There's always a new set of stitches." He pointed to his cheek, to the injury he'd patched up just that morning.
"I suppose we'll leave fate up to whether we cross paths again. Hopefully you can stay in one piece now that we've got you closed up. I'll get a nurse in here to fit you with a leg brace, and get you on your way."
"I-- I know you have other patients to see to, but you couldn't direct me to my boyfriend's room, could you? I need to know he's okay. Geor--"
"I can't." She stood and discarded everything leftover from the kit, and handed him his pants, and his bullet in a small resealable baggie. "For one, like you said, I have other patients. And for two, the doctors seeing to him can't have you underfoot. How do you even know he's here for certain?"
"Most of the Central casualties have gotten sent here," he lied. "I'm almost positive he's here. It's the biggest hospital in Premier."
"All I can tell you is to keep trying admissions. Get to feeling better, and thank you for choosing the HP."
With that, she took her reader and left him alone. He groaned in frustration, and glared at his pants. A nurse came in with a brace and helped him get dressed again, fitting his leg from hip to foot with a banded orthotic which would facilitate his knee range. As much as he hated to, he let the nurse throw away his one surviving creeper. He couldn't very well retrieve its lost mate, nor could he walk evenly in one platform soled shoe. She took his email to send him all his discharge docs, then escorted him hobbling back sock-foot to the waiting room.
When he still couldn't find Augen, he pulled out his reader to try the reception in the building, only to find the battery had finally died while he'd been in triage. He rolled his eyes and went to the in-house pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions: a painkiller and an antibiotic. He held the bottles close to his face to read them over. To be taken with food. He figured he was overdue for food anyway, and the sooner he got the meds in him, the faster they could be working.
In a vestibule dining area, he found a variety of vending machines. Rubbing at the bridge of his nose, he growled that he didn't have Augen to be his eyes, and he pressed his face to the glass to inspect the menu available to him. He filled a paper cup with lukewarm black coffee, and sipped at it while he tried to find something in the various lidded shelves less solid than a sandwich. Settling on a tin of oily cheese-flavored macaroni, he sat with a wheeze. He shook out a red pill and a white pill into his hand and took them with the coffee, then vacuously shoveled his then-breakfast.
Slag, he was exhausted. And he still hadn't found Cecil yet. After he had some food in his stomach, he tried the admissions desk again, only to be shooed due to another flood of critical incoming patients. In resignation, he slumped in the dining area again, and fell asleep waiting for Godot.

A review of the minis used on Critical Role.

Snakes, why’d it have to be snakes? Probably because there’s so many good snake and snake-adjacent miniatures some of which we see in this episode! And great terrain to boot.

The Heroes

The Mighty Nein Steamforged Games Critical Role Miniatures and Prototype Steamforged Games Critical Role Miniatures
In this episode we see the return of some of the prototypes used in Episode 25. The finalized Steamforged figures have a basic circular base while the prototypes stand atop a stone and grass terrain sculpt set on a larger curved base. Still waiting on finalized Steamforges for Fjord, Yasha, and Jester. On the subject of Mighty Nein, it bears pointing out that in this episode and the previous one we finally get a decent look at the Steamforged Caduceus figure. What a beaut!
The Terrain

Serpent Temple Dwarven Forge Dungeon, Forsaken Temple, and Dungeon of Doom
Up top I’d like to point out that the Serpent Temple is shaped like the Superman symbol. Not sure what the significance of this is. Requires more research...
At last, a successful prediction! Last episode I confidently declared that there would be Shrine of Sysuul Dwarven Forge pieces in this episode. There was far less of the Forsaken Temple components than I expected, but they can be seen in some of the floor layouts, serpent wall decorations, and the fountain dais. The levels of the temple we see in miniature are just wonderful, they deliver that Indiana Jones type atmosphere I so crave.
Serpent Temple Fountain Maze of Death Dressing: Fountain
Full points for originality, when I think of fountains in a fantasy setting I imagine the fountain of youth or peasants tossing copper pieces and making wishes. I definitely don’t picture of a bunch of snake people frolicking in a giant birdbath. Cool unique usage of a terrain element.
This Pathfinder Battles Dungeon Dressing item sports a swell water effect. The design of the fountain is neutral without being boring. That neutrality makes it look appropriate in all settings, whether it’s a sunny town square or a skeevy snake shrine.
Exterior Map Mats by Mars: Shattered Soil
These map names are the best. “Shattered Soil”? That’s amazing, sounds like the name of a title of a killer campaign. Though we do not see much of it, the presence of a Mars Mat is always appreciated. This one has a well defined theme and atmosphere. Mat by Mars maps always do a wonderful job of quickly and effectively conveying a location setting.
Serpent Temple Totems Crown of Fangs Dressing: Totem
Do I like these two miniatures? Totes. A very original piece of architecture terrain which is good for creating a unique map or marking an objective. The chosen color scheme gives it an ancient Egypt type of appearance. Quite neat.
The Monsters

Yuan-Ti Archer Aberrations #60 Yuan-Ti Halfblood
Yuan-Ti Archer is from 2004 which was just the second year of the Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Game prepainted line. True to DM description, this model has a cobra hood, in addition to a lot of other nice details. Very visible scales, distinct armor design, and even a stylized sheathed sword. Wonderful figure. This cobra is king!
Yuan-Ti Purebloods Storm King's Thunder #023 Yuan-Ti Pureblood (Bow)
This miniature is not especially good. But not in the normal way. Sure it has an uninspired pose, low detail resolution, and sloppy paint. But beyond those basics, this figure fails to do the job of a mini.
The first duty of a miniature is to represent an entity, to communicate a type of monster or creature. In title, this is a miniature of a Yuan-Ti Pureblood, but you can hardly tell they are a humanoid with physical snake traits. There are green splotches on the character’s shoulders that are supposed to be scales as seen in the Monster Manual art. But they look more like an extension of the figure’s green clothing since the sculpt lacks fine enough detail to properly indicate a scaly texture.
The eyes are painted green with vertical black pupils however. But that’s the only real noticeable hint that this is a Yuan-Ti. This mini is totally replaceable. You could swap it out for another mini and you would hardly know the difference. Storm King’s Thunder Yuan-Ti Pureblood looks as much like a Yuan-Ti as any other generic humanoid mini.

Yuan-Ti Abomination Storm King's Thunder #039 Yuan-Ti Abomination
This is another example of a newer D&D mini (2018 in this case) having lower overall detail than older early to mid 2000s minis. At least its good enough to recognize what the different parts of the figure are supposed to be. The design of the creature’s equipment is pretty plain. Compare this to the Yuan-Ti Archer’s costuming and equipment which is all richly designed and defined.
Where this figure shines is in the pose. The positioning of the tail and the leaned forward stance makes the abomination really appear like it is slithering forth. It looks like it’s about to spring off the base. That’s also because the sculpt is so big, it hangs well off the small 1x1 inch base. It looks like it should be on a large size category 2x2 base. Confusingly, the Yuan-Ti Abomination stat block shows that is a large monster. Perhaps this mini was modelled to be put on a bigger base but was stuck on a 1x1 due to how the Storm King’s Thunder booster boxes are packaged with the huge 3x3 inch base miniatures. This mini is so over sized in fact, it’s almost bursting out of the CR miniature camera view!

The Temple Guardian Hydra Pathfinder Battles: Jungle of Despair - Hydra Case Incentive
When this case incentive figure was announced, I was pretty underwhelmed. I was very disappointed that it was not a gargantuan 4x4 model. But then I found out that the heads were swappable! What a spectacular idea. Love it. A most impressive boss monster indeed. It’s also a very colorful miniature, which is not especially common with larger dragon type figures. Such a tough encounter, getting surprised by the presence of a hydra is far from ideal. An adventuring party needs proper time to ready their guillotines, vorpal shuriken, and what not.
Closing Remarks
Loving this temple. Very exciting set piece maps and battles throughout. And what an intense final fight with miniature to match.

I have observed popular games that a pc should never drop (like four-in a row) which can be thus fragile that I quickly overcome them on the hardest level. Empire is another case of wherever Creative Assembly created like creating whichever it had been they thought, and simply overlooked background and the assessment here is spoton. These games are eye-candy and little else. Consider yourself informed, nevertheless: the five couples each has saved game. I believe this game truly shows because it manages most of the a huge selection of droplets you ‘ll option through the level easily, how powerful the iPhone is often as a gambling software. Itis not the cheap form of difficulty that arises from a damaged game, while the game does have more hard in later ranges; it's a genuine upsurge in trouble as a result of fantastic level layout. http://dependance-delabeaute.info eschews desirable graphics for the sake of a hypnotic exercise, however itis a worthy puzzle game.
