8 Anti LO Asks
1. as a mythology buff, i honestly think it was really weird of rachel smythe to take Hecate, a goddess who helped Demeter search for Persephone after she vanished and heard her screams and shared in Persephone and Demeter's joy after reuniting... and then just make her into Hades's like... total bro who plays aggressive matchmaker to h/p to the point of trying to break up Hades's current relationship. but honsestly i refuse to believe rachel smythe did literally any research before making this comic judging by how she depicts the mythology she's taking inspiration from so honestly im not suprised
2. I don’t know if anyone on here has discussed this, but LO very much plays into the idea of “good victim vs bad victim”.
A “good victim” has suffered many things, but despite it they still remain cheerful and happy and pleasant, they do not put others out or lash out at them even if they are triggered, they do not become petty or angry or hold onto negative emotions. They, in essence, “get over it”. Thus, the narrative rewards them: they get many friends, a love internet they’re happy with, and a happy ending. This is what Persephone is. She’s the “good victim”. Despite her many hardships, we know she will not suffer in the end. She will get everything she wants and more.
Then there is Minthe, the “bad victim”. They too have gone through many hardships, but they’ve become cold, angry at the world, they lash out and have trouble opening up and connecting to others, they even hurt others, themselves victims to the toxic pain they can’t get rid it. They do not and have not “gotten over it”.  Thus, the narrative punishes them, even when they try to better themselves. It’s never good enough. These characters often are lonely, the cast are large do not like them if not outright hate them, and they more often than not end up dead. This is what Minthe is. She is not a pleasant person, she’s a victim of a manipulative older man and a cruel, unjust society and system, and we know how her story ends. It’s in pain, her maiming/possible death framed as a joke and not even a genuine hint of sympathy towards her fate. She was a “bad victim”, she “deserved” what she got.
Now, you only often see this in fandom, since the actual works that deal with victims of trauma and how they react will often try to give more nuance to every shade of victim they may have on cast, but it’s very disturbing to me that Rachel seems to eagerly play into this idea, like she gets joy out of punishing a victim she created and watching them suffer even more at her hands. It’d be one thing if she kept Minthe a shallow, one dimensional character who was just evil for the sake of it, fine, but her showing us her actual complex nature and the very real struggles, trauma, and manipulation she went through, especially at the hands of our supposed “heroes” of the story, just to have her demise framed as a win for Persephone and a joke for the audience to laugh at? That’s highly disturbing to me. It’s one thing for fans to act that way, but the writer themselves? It’s very dark, to say the least.
3. "I'm invested in working with fairy tales and folklore for my next project" oh no no no oh god please no. Fairy tales have been through enough hot takes and modern "betterments", they really don't need Rachel "Apollo is bad, actually" Smythe to add to it
4. Quick question
Greek Mythology is mostly incest.
So what if someone who is actually good at writing and storytelling and consistent artwork
Kept it in
For example Zeus and  Hera arguing like the married couple they are
And Hera uses older sibling card
With Zeus dumbfounded face
I don't know why but I want it but would it be weird since it's incest
Most fanfics always keep it out. Just keep it in if you want it to be closer than the actual methods you know
Hera is youngest daughter of Cronus and Rhea and older than her brother Zeus, who was also her husband.
I want to do it but like I have no clue how to start a webtoon so you know💀
5. Oh god, Hades not needing therapy because Persephone's "love" is enough? To quote my lord and savior Kennie JD: "not the p*$$¥ being therapy!"
6. uuuuuh sexual trauma warning.?
So I was writing a comment on the "Re: bpd" ask and i had a realization about persephone
She reminds me of how I was about the idea of sex
I'm demisexual and have sexual trauma and the idea of sex excited me but I wasn't able to like, do it. Me and my partner would mess around but because Mctrauma i couldn't do it cuz I hadn't exactly worked through my trauma and i wanted to get through that because i was finally experiencing sexual attraction.
Kinda reminds me of Persephone. The problem is at that point it had been 6-7 years since my trauma occurred and persephone's happened like last month.
Considering how everyone talks about persephone being a self insert i think Rachel has some things to work through
Also made the realization literally as im typing that Rachel's attitude towards asexuality could be because she's demi and doesn't fully understand what that is or means
becuase if you're ignorant enough you can 100% end up describing demisexuality as "being asexual and then like, slowly turning gay."
this ask weirdly personal so fuck it this is gonna be anonymous feel free to delete if it makes u uncomfy
7. That’s also a part about Hubris Rachel clearly doesn’t get: it was always committed by rich, often people in high authority, NEVER lowly farmers or the poorest of ancient society. They always knew better. Niobe was a queen! Minos was a king! Arachne was the rich, spoiled daughter of a really successful merchant. Sisyphus was a cunning king. The trojan war was kicked off by royal drama. The list goes on and on. You have to notice these things and genuinely study the myths or you become like Rachel, who seems convinced the poorest people would be stupid enough to not only defy their bosses, but the gods themselves? They would be the last people to do such a thing! They don’t have the ingrained sense of entitlement and arrogance like the rich and powerful to even dare act like that towards the gods, as is the case with hubris. Because of this, Rachel ends up creating a narrative that the rich and powerful (literal GODS) are the real victims to those cruel, uppity poor people, going as far as to say in comic they deserve to be slaves for hades’ benefit and they’re wrong for ever hating Persephone for, you know, murdering them because she had a bad day! They should know their place! It’s absolutely insane that she doesn’t actually seem to realize what she’s writing. Unless she does, which is an even bigger issue, and shows a really dark look into how she views the world and society and how it should be run. It’s all a bad look.
8. Have you seen the "The demon, is here in the room right now?" meme
Welp, that's literally Persephone and her "feeling"
I legit saw that video about a dude faking a mental illnes (and seeing a demon that made him do bad things) after he commited a crime and that was so cringy and I can't stop thinking about Persephone confessing her AOW like that

My Hades weapon aspect tier list
Because I’m just Hades brainrot 24/7.
Tumblr media
(Ignore the E-tier, I made my rankings before I realized this website uses an E-tier.)
I use all of the aspects all of the time because I love to change things up. Full disclosure, though, I’ve max upgraded most of them but not all of them; maybe I’ll like some of them better once they’re fully upgraded, but who knows.
I feel the need to explain my rankings but I’m putting that under a Read More because I’ve written a full paragraph for most of these.
Aspect of Zagreus
Most Aspects of Zagreus are a baseline C-tier. They get the job done just fine but their little perks don’t make them anything special to me. The only exception to this is the fists’ Aspect of Zagreus, which I would call A-tier. Dodge chance is very valuable to me - if you check my records, Greater Evasion is actually my most-used boon.
Aspect of Nemesis - C-tier
I actually used to really love this one, and I still think bonus critical chance is valuable. But as my heat gets higher and higher, I find myself having a harder time with the sword in general and often resort to just attacking wildly and not feeling like I have the time to use the special, which means I don’t take advantage of this aspect’s main benefit.
Aspect of Poseidon - F-tier
Congrats, Poseidon, not only do you have my least favorite boons, you also have my least favorite aspect! You’re going to notice that I dislike the cast-centric aspects, and that’s because I rarely use cast and often forget it exists. But this aspect in particular I just don’t understand. It’s not like the bloodstones aren’t going to dislodge themselves eventually, and in the meantime, don’t you want them to stay in the enemies? Having bloodstones in them debuffs them. Not to mention it doesn’t work with Stygian Soul and is useless if you use Demeter, Dionysus, or Ares’s cast. In my opinion, the only boon that synergizes well with this aspect is Exit Wounds; otherwise, it’s pointless.
Aspect of Arthur - A-tier
Once you get over how slow it is, this aspect has a really beefy attack that cuts through enemies in no time. I actually got my fastest time ever with this aspect. Not to mention, 50 free HP? Yes please.
Aspect of Achilles - F-tier
Don’t hate me? I just find this one really difficult to control. Also, I usually like to use the spear’s special against Theseus and the Greatshields, because even if they block it from one direction it’ll still hit them coming back. I guess I still have that option with this aspect, but it’s not as intuitive.
Aspect of Hades - A-tier
My go-to on the spear. It’s not very flashy or exciting, but it does what you want it to do.
Aspect of Guan Yu - B-tier
This aspect has grown on me a lot, although I do think I still like it mostly as a novelty - it’s not exactly ideal for beating the game, but it’s something different and it’s a lot of fun to play around with. The small health pool is stressful, but stealing your health back is satisfying.
Aspect of Chaos - B-tier
According to Tiermaker’s average rankings, this is the favorite overall aspect. And I guess I get that. To me it’s okay. The problem with it for me is that the shield’s base special never really impressed me that much, and adding a few more shields to that equation isn’t that much of an improvement.
Aspect of Zeus - S-tier
This one is just awesome. It feels great being able to keep attacking and blocking while your special is out there doing its thing. Also, a quick tip: this one is called Aspect of Zeus for good reason. The special synergizes great with Zeus’s lighting effects, which basically let it do double damage. It’s really satisfying to watch, too.
Aspect of Beowulf - F-tier
Not only is this cast-based, but I really don’t think that any benefits offered by this aspect are worth taking 10% more damage. Every time I start a run with this aspect I immediately think “Fuck, this was a mistake.”
Aspect of Chiron - S-tier
I love choosing a single target and just feeding arrows into them, especially with stackable status effects on the special. This is my ol’ reliable when I want to use the bow.
Aspect of Hera - D-tier
I don’t hate this quite as much as the other cast-based aspects, because if I am going to use the cast, it’s good to get some range on it. Still, I find it underwhelming.
Aspect of Rama - D-tier
I like the special, and the heavy attack is pretty good. I just can’t get over how slowly this thing charges up.
Aspect of Talos - D-tier
I like to put Aphrodite’s Weak effect on this aspect’s special so enemies can’t hurt me as much even though I’ve brought them in close. Unfortunately, sometimes if an enemy is too far away when I use the special on them, it will give them the “magnetized” status effect (or whatever you want to call it) but won’t make them Weak, which is really annoying and the main reason I ranked this so low.
Aspect of Demeter - C-tier
The supercharged special is great in theory, but in practice it doesn’t help me very much because I always seem to waste it on a small enemy, or an enemy that already has very low health, or by just punching the air.
Aspect of Gilgamesh - B-tier
My boyfriend’s favorite aspect. He likes the risk-reward system of making an enemy both take more damage and deal more damage. I don’t like that. Usually I maim an enemy and then get the hell away from them until the effect resolves. What elevates this one for me are the extra dashes.
Aspect of Eris - D-tier
I was going to make this one F-tier, but last night I did a run with it and it was actually kind of decent so I bumped it up. It’s still really unwieldy to get into the right position to get the buff. Also, hot take, I think that they shouldn’t offer you the Hazard Bomb upgrade while you’re using this aspect because that’s just stupid.
Aspect of Hestia - F-tier
Reloading will give me one good shot? Just one? Great, thanks, I love it. Too bad it’s useless to me because my first shot usually misses.
Aspect of Lucifer - S-tier
I don’t know why everyone hates this aspect. It’s totally badass. Maybe I only ranked it S-tier because the other rail aspects suck so bad that this seems fantastic in comparison, but damn, I really love this crazy laser gun.

Scattered Star Wars Thoughts: - I’m about two thirds of the way through Empire’s End and I’m once again sad that we haven’t gotten anything like this in awhile--stuff happens in these books, the huge, big, galactic-level stuff happens!  The Battle of Jakku!  Rae Sloane vs Gallius Rax!  The bombing of the New Republic ceremony!  Mon Mothma’s struggles to keep the New Republic afloat and her political enemies trying to take her down! Sure, I love the books for the ragtag team I came to know and love, it’s still one of the top tier groups of new characters, but it’s also that stuff happens in this book, I get a good, strong look at the events that shape the galaxy in this era.  I suspect (even though I have no proof) that SW deliberately moved away from this kind of thing, because they were filling up the space too quickly, there soon wasn’t going to be much room left for any kind of big events, between this and Bloodline, especially if they ever wanted to set a show or movie in that era. I sometimes half-wonder if we’re heading for another reboot after awhile, because they’ll want to free up some space or if we’re just going to get more “away from the main action” stories.  Which I wouldn’t mind, if they were more like Spark of the Resistance because that was one of my favorite books of recent times, where it didn’t have to have a big impact, it could be a cute space adventure, but it was about characters I desperately wanted to have more interaction with. I guess that’s what was missing from Alphabet Squadron for me, that the new character stuff was SO GOOD, but Hera’s role really could have been filled by anyone.  Empire’s End is giving us Han and Leia and Mon character moments, but a lot of them don’t have to be about the big galactic stuff, they can be little mini-adventures set between the bigger ones. On the other hand, the comics seem to be filling that niche more than the novels, and the comics are so good that I’m kind of fine with the priority seeming to be on them--even if I don’t think that’s intentional.  (Or maybe it’s just me vastly preferring the comics over the novels, it seems like that’s where the good stuff is happening, imo.) Anyway. Empire’s End.  I really do love this trilogy in a way that, looking back, is a lot sharper than a lot of what I’ve been feeling re: current SW.  I wish Wendig would get another crack at writing SW, whether for these characters or someone else.  And that the Bens would come back and write more, too.  I was skimming over their From a Certain Point of View story and thinking about Join the Resistance! and I MISS THOSE STORIES. - I am doing pretty good at keeping up with my rewatch getting finished before the new season of TCW happens, I’m down to 1.8 episodes per day to reach my goal!  :D Between that and the way I’ve been booking it through other stuff (it’s been so cold out lately that I don’t go out much, so I have more time to watch stuff) that I’m already a quarter of the way through my 2020 Resolutions list! - I just saw Ryan Bergara, Shane Madej, and Steven Lim launched Watcher and have a handful of videos up, so I’ll have those to watch, I also have a bunch of shows (Barry and Patriot mostly) waiting in the wings for when I finish with TCW, and of course more of The Untamed, and, well, THANK GOD SW IS QUIET RIGHT NOW, because it’s getting to be a bit Much.  In a good way, but still!  /wanted to grump - I finished the current season of Grace & Frankie and I really liked the first 3-4 episodes, I got a bunch of IRL LOLs out of them, but about halfway through the season it lost steam for me and the ending just felt weird, like, “Why are we going down this same path again?  What was the point of that sub-plot?” and it just felt unfocused to me. I feel like, by this point, we’re six seasons in, Grace and Frankie lying about stuff from each other feels very, very retread, especially when Grace and Nick have talked about this before, that sometimes she has to choose him, not just Frankie all the time, and this storyline sort of ended up in a place that seemed to contradict that, and it does help to view this through the lens of Grace still has decades of lying and secrets as routine to recover from, she’s going to backslide, and I’m down for that, but I feel like this just didn’t quite acknowledge that it was part of a pattern she’s still working on, rather than ignoring that it comes with context of stuff that’s already happened in the show. I’m also losing my patience with a lot of the romantic partners drama on the show, like, I think they’ve been on a slow drive towards Coyote/Mallory for awhile and I hate it, I really don’t get any kind of spark between Frankie and Jack, Joan-Margaret and the guy she picked to marry didn’t have enough of a spark to make that storyline all that fun, Principal Dan being weird by the end was just *SIGH* (all the more so because I want Mallory to be with someone who Is Not Coyote).  I do very much still love Barry/Brianna, I feel like the show does better at Brianna Is An Onion You Have To Peel Her Back In Layers, so going over similar ground makes sense.  And I actually enjoyed Coyote/Jessica, they’re adorable, but it’s hard to get invested when I don’t think it’ll last.  I actually really enjoy Bud/Allison and their mutual failboating conversation about their first times was delightful to watch.  But I also sort of feel like I’m getting exhausted on Robert/Sol, it didn’t feel like there was any idea what to do with them this season, so they just sort of threw a bunch of things at the wall to see what would stick.  Robert being like, “NO THIS IS A BAD IDEA” while Sol and Allison researched Bud’s family history was hilarious, MORE LIKE THAT, less of them keeping secrets from each other like that entire local theater storyline.  Or even Sol’s health thing, which brought out different approaches to quality vs length of life at their age, that was a much more interesting story. I guess I wouldn’t mind retreading the same ground quite so much, if it felt like they were aware of it being part of a bigger whole, rather than just doing the same thing again, or if it felt like it was going somewhere (I think this is why I liked the Brianna/Barry stuff, it feels like it’s going somewhere), but that doesn’t mean the cast isn’t still delightful and the show isn’t still an absolute delight.  It never feels flat or like they’re Flanderizing the characters, the human moments are still there and very genuine.  (Grace and the other young wives was one of my favorite moments of the season!  It was such a lovely, warm, human resolution.)  The cast still delivers everything beautifully and they’re retreading these stories for a reason--though, I can’t lie, I’m curious to see what the final season has, in the way of a shake-up of the usual dynamics, as well as some more permanent resolution, one assumes. It still remains one of my favorite shows whenever it comes back! Scattered Star Wars Thoughts/2020 Resolutions Update: - Star Wars: The Clone Wars s3e02-20 Current total:  41/260 Scattered Everything Else Thoughts/ 2020 Resolutions Update: - Watchmen s01e01-09 - Bob’s Burgers s10e11 - The Good Place s04e11 - Grace & Frankie s06e01-13 Current total:  86/260 Star Wars Fic Recs 2020 Resolutions Update Current total written:  81/520

Wolf 359 Classpects, pt. 1
Soooo, while I was still busy with the last few weeks of my summer internship, I did keep thinking about classpecting the Wolf 359 cast. Possibly too much, because it wouldn't leave me alone until I'd solved my own God Tier riddle. Unfortunately, it got really long in the solving because I have many Thoughts and want to share all of them, always, so uh, a complete Classpect Analysis of Wolf 359 will be in parts? This first one covers Eiffel's, Hera's, Lovelace's and Minkowski's aspects.
DOUG EIFFEL: An utter no-brainer; ya boi Dougie Fresh is a Breath player if I ever saw one. For Chrissakes, he's the communications officer, and the first one to start complaining about the monotony of being stuck in a deep space sardine can. Breath is associated with communication, freedom, openness, and change - "free as the breeze", you might think of it, but that also leads to Breath players having trouble pinning themselves down to anything. They get skittish if they feel pinned down, and frustrated when stuck in place. Doug's noncommittal aloofness, the way he's off in his own little world (partially to hide from the fact he really does not like himself very much at all), and the way he's incorporated media into his self-perception all match pretty well with John and the Nitrams. But at the same time, he's the one playing mediator even as early as The Sound And The Fury. Being largely outside of the War Industrial Complex the other characters are so familiar with and thus mostly free from its dogmatic worldview of hierarchy and order, he's becomes the One Sane Man when he's the one to shout "what is WRONG with you people?" when "murder" shows up in the top 3 potential solutions to a problem, and he has no hesitation in saying what's on his mind. And it's not all complaints and bad ideas, either; he's got whole speeches telling the others how amazing he thinks they are and how in awe he is of their skills. A key catalyst in the plot of Wolf 359 is the reaching effects of his radio broadcasts. Also, there's something hilarious to the fact that for the aspect associated with communication, Doug *literally* cannot lie to save his life. I kept my ears open for the infamous Breath Hex on my second listen - that is, the strange little way in which things Breath players say tend to come to pass in reality. Cigarette Candy is basically 20 straight minutes of the Decima virus being Breath Hexed into existence, and he guessed Lovelace's situation in one - "Maybe she's a clone, or like a *really* good robot replica."
HERA: Another easy one. Although Hera is resistant to splintering as we've come to recognize it, Heart players are nothing if not determined to be an individual. They have a firm idea of themselves as a person and defend it fiercely, including compartmentalizing away pieces that don't fit their self-image. Maybe less actively putting them down like Jade Harley did to Jadesprite (the manifestation of the negative feelings she repressed out of fear they'd make her less useful) - that would mean attacking or denying a part of themselves - and more... "why yes, I put this part of myself in this box, and I may look at the box on occasion, the box definitely exists, but I don't go near the box and I definitely do not touch or open or interact with the box. And then one day, I will die." So that piece finds other avenues to express itself because it can't not do that. Hera's programming dictates she be "chipper and non-confrontational and always ready to help", but she actively resists being a mere utility and always has - her earliest know action was to attempt a jailbreak of the manufacturing facility she was made in, born rebel that she is. She will insist upon her name over her serial number unless you force her not to, and gets passive-aggressive at people treating her like a machine. And yet, even as she teaches herself to ignore commands literally written into the base of her personality, she doesn't reject her directive to be helpful, nor does she express a wish to be a flesh-and-blood human, or even really to have a physical form? She has a human self-image in mental spaces (we presume, I will semi-seriously point out there's nothing definitively stating she doesn't see herself as like, her fursona or something), but when she has to limit herself to a human-like view of the ship, her immediate reaction is "this is weird, I don't like it."  This is honestly something about Hera that I think may be unique among non-villainous AI characters; she seems to be content with being what she is in general, and she just wishes for people to treat her as a person and not a piece of equipment they can do with as they please.
ISABEL LOVELACE: Arm-wrestled Hera for the Heart aspect and lost, despite Hera not actually having any arms, but that's okay because there's two aspects that fit her much better: Blood and Time. I ultimately went with Blood.
This is the part where you notice I'm onto the third of four characters in an aspects-only meta post, yet there is still a lot of post to go. This is because These Kinds Of Characters, the sort that're constantly on emotional lockdown, are a Challenge Mode, and for me to truly be satisfied with my classification I have to start drilling into the bedrock of what it even means to have an aspect in general, what it means to have a specific aspect, and what each aspect is really about. When you're on that level you tend to find yourself throwing out explicit expositional statements as incomplete, oversimplified, or unreliable, and looking at the text directly with a subtextual electron microscope. Brace yourselves. I have thrown the author out of the airlock, and I am about to get verbose.
Lovelace's character sheet describes her in contradictions, and we get to see two different sides to her that resolve into the complete picture by the time Lovelace Mk. III wakes up. There's Captain Isabel Lovelace, goofing around in her earlier logs, and The Terminator. She does things Her Way and is very much prepared to fight you if you object - the whole reason she was picked for the Hephaestus mission was her willingness to go against (in her words) "stupid orders" and do what she thought was right. She's also fiercely loyal; The Terminator is the end result of her anger and grief for her lost crew and at her failure to get them home alive. Her backstory episode has her summing up her complicated relationship to the Air Force with "I owe a lot of who I am to them." And even before she and Minkowski have completely stopped butting heads, Lovelace shoves her out of the way of an exploding wall panel that would've killed her, and takes a near-fatal bit of shrapnel to the gut in the process. At her best, Lovelace is a fearless, boundlessly determined, dedicated firebrand of a leader. At worst, she can be impatient, stubborn, shortsighted, and ruthless. I dunno about you but that reminds me of a certain... angry crab that I know.
"Time" was what a few people chimed in with for Lovelace and while I see some of the connections (her awareness of the time loop, "Variations on a Theme", her multiple selves and multiple deaths, the repeated motif of clocks and pocketwatches) I don't think she quite fits in with the other Time players. Unlike most Time players, she doesn't have a fixation with historic context, the "Why Things Are The Way That They Are." This manifests in Dave's paleontology and his taking of source material for ironic twisting, Aradia's archaeology and knowledge of The Nature Of The Game, Damara's... /noises and vague gestures bc I don't want to go back through Meenahbound but her role as The Handmaid fits the pattern, and Caliborn's own warped, thoughtless replication of narrative archetypes. Context. Decisions. What came before and how it shapes the now, where your decisions will take it from here. The consequences those decisions will have. The details versus the larger picture. Even failure has its place in that scheme - that's the Time aspect. Lovelace doesn't like to dwell, she's a very "barrelling forward momentum" kind of person.
Side note: Aradia, Dave, and Damara all face hesitation to take action they had to learn to overcome. Also, all of them had to be pushed to use violence except in self-defense; Aradia let Vriska cross a series of lines before beating the everloving shit out of her, and Damara snapped after what, years? Of Meenah's abuse. Dave, on the other hand, never raises a hand to another person except as a complete necessity. Caliborn is, if anything, an aberration here in that he's outright homocidal and self-doubt is something that happens to other people. Caliborn is an outright aberration to a lot of Time player patterns, and to SBURB in general, because it's SBURB, so the rules are made up and the points don't fucking matter, except when they do, because Fuck You, The Author Said So.
No, Lovelace's approach to decision-making is that regrets are for afterwards, and "if I fail I deserve to be out of this picture; also, this situation has gone entirely pear-shaped, time to fling myself into the sun." (and that sounds an awful lot like someone that I know very well, but I'll deal with that royal mess when I get to the crazy whamma-jamma that is Classes). Impatience and railroading of other people can be her undoing just the same as assertiveness and decisiveness are her gifts.
...aaand then I went ahead and watched the live episode and yeah, major Karkat vibes there. However, I note that I don't believe we have ever hit hard evidence in Homestuck that Blood players are capable of Chilling The Fuck Out - this is part of the limitations of classpecting characters who weren't made for this system, you really have to dig into how much of their behavior is situational and where you see the kernel of individual perception shine through, the Rosetta Stone by which you begin to see the constants. "Where the object becomes the subject", to quote Memoria.
Finally, I think it's also worth noting that while Lovelace has a lot of connections to Time motifs, she also has connections to a lot of Blood motifs that arguably become more important to her story. Personal bonds and social justice are two of the Blood aspects strongest associations - see Lovelace's loyalty to her crew, and extending her desire to avenge them out to everyone Goddard Futuristics has ever used and tossed aside. The physical body and literal blood are other strong associations, and gee, how many times does the O-negative Cure-All Alien Juice in Lovelace's veins become a critical plot point? Not to mention the implication that her new friends all pulled through the finale because all of them now have her blood in their system. I'll accept that she's closer to the line between Blood and Time than some, but I'm holding by ground here:
Tumblr media
(Also, here's some irony for you, she may share an aspect with the Cancer trolls, but her birthday is August 11th, making her a Leo.)
RENEE MINKOWSKI: Minkowski was the hardest of these 4 to come to a decision on. My first inclination was Mind. Her general disposition put me in mind of a Life player. But then, I sat down and thought my way past the Commander's layers of emotional armor and ultimately settled on Light.
First off, by being a stickler for protocol and procedure as well as an Actual Responsible Adult, Minkowski is a kind of character that Homestuck straight-up just does not have, so snap judgements aren't gonna cut it here.  This is, again, another limitation of the classpecting system - all the examples we have to draw from are teenage disasters stuck in a lawless hellscape of some description or another, and written by an author allergic to boxing himself in with hard conclusions. But I digress.
Commander Minkowski is also stubborn. When she sets her mind to something, she digs in her heels, cranks the dial to 11, and then breaks off the knob and pockets it so you can't turn it back down. We see this as soon as episode 2, and at it's most hyperbolic when she Captain Ahabs the plant monster. Her's is iron-willed, bloody-minded, unstoppable, Determi-fucking-nation - when she sets her mind to it.
The submarine thought exercise is what had me initially lock her down as a hero of Mind before I mulled it over. The exercise is meant to provoke thought about priorities - what you think your role's purpose is in that situation will determine your priorities, and thus, your decisions. Mind heroes' most prominent skills are in riding the flow of causality, watching decisions, their causes and their consequences, and directing that path. They know people, and how to direct people. But the need for this means that they can get a little co-dependent. Other people are understandable - it's themselves that Mind heroes have the greatest struggle with. Without that vehicle of another person, Mind heroes may find themselves adrift and struggling to define themselves. This is fitting, given Mind is the most direct counterpart to the Heart aspect.
However, upon further examination, I found that this framework of priorities setting your decisions can also be extended to the Light aspect. What is "lucky" in a given situation? What do you define as a fortunate outcome? Rose arguably gets Grimdark'd by something like this, she asks the cue ball "are the horrorterrors evil?" and in doing so attempts to pry into the motivations and intent of *indescribable eldritch beings existing on a nigh-incomprehensible plane* and wedge it down into a relative human understanding of morality, which is sort of like trying to fit the Pacific Ocean into a water bottle. She was trying to deduce what impact the horrorterrors would have upon her and her friends, but asked the wrong question and got an answer she couldn't handle. She didn't recognize Doc Scratch was baiting her into this by leading her into a specific framework through which to ask the question. Vriska died because of her failure to recognize she was in a situation where luck didn't matter. Aranea got trounced because of her inability to recognize that reshuffling reality to prioritize herself and her preferred outcomes still didn't overcome the fundamental nature of timelines - you try to take over the alpha timeline with an insubordinate branch? That's a doomed timeline no matter how you slice it, and we know what happens to those. Luck and knowledge are both used by the Light-bound to give themselves power, whether in showing themselves off as The Smart One or the The Helpful One or The Unstoppable One, but their limited viewpoint often leads them to overlook the limitations of their own framework, or in other words, missing the bigger picture. I'll point out here also how Minkowski has the entire DSSPPM memorized and is the one who wants to get to the bottom of whatever the hell is really going on up at Wolf 359. Additionally, one of her other ambitions, at least once upon a time, was writing musicals. The verbal arts are one of the domains of Light players.
So while on the surface, Minkowski bears the most resemblance to a Life player, Life players tend to have an element of conformity to them. Unquestioned assumptions they've internalized have about the context in which they exist. Light heroes, on the other hand, need conformity so they have something to defy when they jump up and down screaming LOOK AT ME!
So after much pontificating, I came to a decision. In the end, what Minkowski wanted more than anything else was a stage. Maybe to direct rather than hold the spotlight, but still; that's a Light hero if ever I saw one.

Far Cry 5 Theory #3- Faith And The Greek Goddesses
Hi all, and welcome to the third in a series of Far Cry 5 meta posts! Today, I’m talking about the often sadly overlooked, beloved little sister, Faith! It’s not an original theory this time, instead I’m building on already existing and acknowledged symbolism within the game!
This one is 1972 words, so another long one, but I hope it’s interesting!
Tumblr media
Far Cry 5 is laden with Christian symbolism- talk of God, baptism, souls and sins- but there is one very interesting example of where this trend is broken. This moment comes within the scene where Faith entices Burke to kill Virgil, and then himself.
As she approaches her victims, she says to the Deputy:
“Do you know what hubris is? Arrogance before the gods. The Greeks saw it as a dangerous form of pride that invoked the goddess Nemesis, who would seek retribution.”
This is the only example in the entire game (and indeed, the supporting materials) where the situation’s religious undertones are blatantly derivative of Greek mythology. And while Faith is heavily under the influence of Joseph’s doctrine and ideology, I feel that this very deliberate reference can shed some light on how she decided to play the new role she had been given.
Not just as a Herald... but as a goddess.
Aphrodite. Cybele. Psyche.
Nemesis.
Nemesis is the Greek goddess of retribution, justice and revenge, a figure who punishes arrogance and pride.
Immediately after making this reference, Faith goes on to say:
“If violence is the only language you choose to speak, I’ll speak your language.”
She directly places herself in the role of Nemesis, deciding that she must combat the Deputy’s violence, their hubris, by retaliating with Burke and Virgil’s deaths.
Faith is the only one of the Seeds who actually punishes the Deputy’s actions.
Tumblr media
INSPIRATION
Due to this reference, it appears that Rachel took heavy inspiration from the Greek mythology when performing her role as Faith. It has been discussed before (in this post by teamhawkeye and weekend-writer) that she may have learned how to be a Herald from Jacob, since she directly quotes him within the game, and I also think that all of Jacob’s talk of humanity, history and falling empires may have influenced her to look at the ancient societies, to understand the faiths that made their empires so strong.
She would learn of their all-powerful gods and of cruel punishments  administered to those proud enough to challenge them- think of the fates of Medusa, Arachne, Marsyas and Tiresias.
And seeing how successful the ancient gods were at eliciting respect and obedience, she decided to put their methodologies into practice.
Tumblr media
BUT WHY?
Delusions of grandeur.
It’s easy to imagine, that having been once cast out from society, Rachel might become enamoured with her new position as a Herald, as the one Joseph hand-picked to be at his side. She rose from nothing to become a leader, loved and feared. She now held the ability to control people entirely. She was now divine.
It’s pretty likely that power went to her head.
I have been considering the possibility that Faith believes she is supposed to act as a deterrent for Joseph’s own hubris. Joseph would worry that to wield the power he has, and to carry the notion that he is chosen by God, may make him arrogant and tyrannical, and he would need someone to keep his pride in check. Greg Bryk has discussed how Faith is a motherly figure to Joseph- who better to aid him in a battle with his own sins than a parental figure, just as he, as a ‘Father’, aids the atonement of his flock?
But why would Joseph ask her to take inspiration from an ancient religion that isn’t part of the Eden’s Gate doctrine? Why would he raise her to be a godly figure, when he and his brothers were simply prophets?
He wouldn’t.
So maybe Faith, with talk of her divinity as her new form of cocaine, combined Joseph’s request to assist him, her developing delusions of grandeur, and the ancient stories she learned from Jacob, to come to the conclusion that she was special, chosen like the heroes of old?
And so she decided to become a goddess, as evidence of her worth.
Faith wasn’t named by the Voice in Joseph’s original visions like John and Jacob were, and I imagine she’d be aware of that. Perhaps she felt bitter, outcast, not quite part of the group. A Herald, but not a prophet. A Jessop, not a true Seed.
She knew she must have a purpose, after all, she was chosen.
Perhaps she was chosen as a guide for the prophet, so that he might remain humble and loyal to his holy cause?
SO WHAT PROOF OF THIS IS THERE?
Tumblr media
HER ORIGINS
Nemesis is the child of Nyx, the goddess of night, and Erebus, god of darkness. And so it can be argued that she was quite literally ‘born of darkness’. Both Nyx and Erebor were born of Chaos which the Greeks described as a formless, eternal dark abyss between the Earth and sky, or upon which the Earth rests.
In one of Faith’s broadcasts, she can be heard saying ‘Life comes from chaos’.
The Greeks' dark void, Chaos, was worshipped as the very first thing to exist.
It seems too much of a coincidence for her to make this statement, a sentiment not shared by any of the other Seeds, if she had not been influenced by Greek mythology. And it could be that Faith’s belief in this doctrine comes from the parallels it has with her own story:
“Faith flies divine—and Rachel…Rachel gropes around in the darkness. I left her there a long time ago.”
Rachel was born into a world of darkness, by abusive parents. She tried to remake herself using drugs, but still was lost in the ‘chaos’. It was only when Joseph found her that she finally became ‘Faith’... that she became ‘Nemesis’ and came into the light, ‘born’ as the person she was meant to be.
There are also interpretations where Nemesis has no father, which is all the more interesting, considering Joseph’s epithet.
SYMBOLISM
The above depiction of her is especially interesting, as Nemesis holds two of her symbols- that of scales, and a sword. These are the very symbols of her adoptive brothers. We have little insight of how Faith interacts with John and Jacob, but we know that Joseph apparently dotes on her. Perhaps, if she is indeed consumed by the notion that Joseph chose her, made her a favourite, that she feels she has some degree of control over them too?
Tumblr media
THE ANGELS
Faith appears to have taken inspiration from Nemesis in her manufacturing of the Bliss, and the effects it takes upon those consumed by it.
The Angels are overdosed so heavily on Bliss, that they no longer have free will. This is an irreversible process, and one wonders why such a process is needed, if the Bliss is influential enough upon most people to make them suggestible to the Project?
Well, perhaps Faith suggested it, in reference to Adrasteia.
Adrasteia was an alternative name for Nemesis, and in Ancient Greek, roughly translates to ‘one from whom there is no escape’.
Interestingly, Adrasteia is also the epithet of Cybele, the goddess of childbirth. Could it be that Faith, in a twisted way, thinks of the Angels as her children- a note from a Priestess describes them as ‘extensions’ of Faith- and one very telling phone message, has her saying:
“A baby is a sack of screaming, shitting, crying impulses with no thoughts, no personality, no understanding of the world beyond feelings. It has no soul. You have to give it one. The only soul we ever have, we receive from others. And it is only others who can take it away.”
Writings on Nemesis has also described how she uses "adamantine bridles" to restrain "the frivolous insolences of mortals”- and it wouldn’t surprise me to think that this is why her Angels wear masks over their mouths. There is a suggestion that their tongues have been removed, but why would Eden’s Gate hide that? They are hardly adverse to graphic reminders of their sins?
Tumblr media
THE SIREN AND NARCISSUS
Faith bears the title ‘The Siren’, a creature from Greek mythology famous for leading people to watery graves by seducing them with their voices, and it therefore can be no coincidence that water is a recurring feature within Faith’s scenes. And, as The Siren, Faith uses desires and dreams to entice the disillusioned, before drowning them within the Bliss.
Nemesis is a siren in her own way, famous for leading someone to a watery grave- Narcissus, the man who fell in love with his own reflection.
Parallels can easily be drawn to Burke’s tragic tale. Once proud and confident, but discontented, he sits with the Deputy upon the water, quite literally reflecting upon his new life, filled with love for his new happier self. And though others try to save him, he cannot escape the obsession with these reflections and ultimately dies because of it.
Tumblr media
PHYSICAL- APHRODITE?
In the Bliss, Faith seemingly possesses a pair of beautiful white wings. And while initially this may seem to suggest her angelic nature, it seems odd to brand her with the same title as the mindless Angels, when she evidently not only has free will, but also is of great value and deeply cherished by Joseph.
And so now we come to note that Nemesis is actually very often portrayed as a winged figure- the poet Mesomedes described her as “Nemesis, winged balancer of life, dark-faced goddess, daughter of Justice”.
Additionally, it can be argued that Faith also took inspiration from Aphrodite.
Nemesis was said to resemble Aphrodite, the goddess of love who is famously beautiful, and there are multiple lines of dialogue from characters within the game that reflect on Faith’s attractiveness. Hurk even asks if there would be any way of reviving her, because she is so beautiful.
It makes sense that Rachel, riddled with low self-esteem, would choose to empower herself by modelling her image on a goddess so desired. Parallels can be drawn to the Greek tale of the ‘Judgement of Paris’, where Paris, prince of Troy, named Aphrodite as the most beautiful, over Hera and Athena- just as Rachel was chosen by Joseph as the most faithful over Lana and Serena.
Finally, Faith is often seen with butterflies around her. In Greek mythology, the goddess Psyche was a beautiful woman who people began to covet and worship in place of Aphrodite, and she was eventually brought into the service of the goddess, having evoked her wrath.
Psyche is represented with butterfly wings.
Tumblr media
SUMMARY
Each of the Seeds act according to their own gospels, inflicted upon them by their own individual ‘Gods’. Joseph’s is the Voice. John’s are the Duncans. Jacob’s is his younger self.
And so who drives Faith?
She adores (and fears) Joseph. She learned from Jacob. But to assume that they are her Gods detracts from the severity of her actions and her evil. It removes her free will... and she is no Angel.
No, she must have set out to find a God of her own.
Tracey says of Faith: ‘This is what she does. Takes. Destroys.’ Faith knew misery in her life before the Project, and so is of the same mindset as the other Seeds- that happiness can only be found by enduring suffering and pain. And she may experience jealousy of others who have never had to suffer.
A quote I found on Nemesis read:
Nemesis believed that no one should ever have too much goodness in their lives, and she had always cursed those who were blessed with countless gifts.
In other words, Nemesis believed in punishing ‘undeserved good fortune’, not necessarily making people suffer completely, but suffer enough.
Just as she did.
Faith saw herself in this vengeful, loyal, beautiful goddess. She recognised her past and new mission within the holy figure’s doctrine. And with Joseph's open attitude as to how the Heralds chose to operate, she could easily merge her fantasies with his.
She became Nemesis, challenging the rightful goddess, and committing the very sin, the hubris, both of them sought to seek out and punish.

We are all going to ride onto the capital of LA and in this format and we all have the bike and it's all hard knock kicker 5150 and we all believe in what he's saying and you guys are kind of lame instead of bothering us and douchebags took a plan and you flushed it as you do all right considering those stupid you are and we're going to arrive and of course and all these bikes are going to become famous and everyone's going to demand them I'm going to have to offer the hand of God and hand of Goddess for each version and there's a whole bunch thousands. The Violator and Demigoddess Wife will introduce this earlier today I don't think it's him
Thor Freya
Sales are through the roof I have it on the monitor that they can't keep them in the shop it's hard not kicker bikes and everyone is modifying it to look like yours and QE has so many calls and she doesn't know what to do with them she calls up China it says he's been getting him batteries won't you get me parts tonight and he says sure it means invasion and I said where is this first you said the British and now you're sending parts invasions no we come along with the parts how can you fit on those little boxes so start laughing cuz that's what she says and he goes oh no I've been trained by a woman and I laugh because I Hera her and I hear Olympus will say stuff now qe
It's my statement and I'm saying this so get those parts to me now I got tons of bikes to make we're going to hire everybody. And Sebastian is switching over his plant and she's sending parts to him and their retro fitting in the building new ones there's just tons of them and they're all coming out now it's a huge pile they're all demanding it and just saying that he can't have one because it says that he is God and they're all saying it out loud and it's a huge protest going on and then huge numbers of them go up and by the bike so they're using it they say and what we say is he's going to have one and then you're going to say that you're him otherwise it kind of kind of s***** Thor says. We agreed to there's no transition there so it's trying to figure out something anyway you got to make this hand of God bike because if you make tons of them and they buy tons of them then I'll be on it and then go after each other it becomes a lot bigger than I'm making it sound so we need to make some plants on some Island somewhere maybe do cuz he's not really shutting along very well so make the whole island this kicker 5150 and say it's for all those poor n****** all this particular model and of course yours so start doing it and I said I'm making yours here yes and there is right and you're in my particular model Gu says and my Goddess Wife's version right he says. So I got it right away and I built tons it would take them over the whole island putting all your factories there and building this bike. Huge numbers of orders just so massive I can't feel him and we have the biggest factories on Earth back to the Madagascar and Japan is now doing it and they've been doing it and they can't fill the orders there's so many orders that is just mind-boggling so we're making tons and tons of frames and huge numbers of them and he says to make a monster frame making company at the at the mine so he did that it's easy to fit cuz all the frames the same and other parts too that are still and we said this so it is damn bikes you better be assigning people and we are you just might have someone it's a huge number of people who want the bike back huge it's just a gigantic force that we're building and this number of Hand of God bikes is exceeded anything we've ever anticipated. It's so huge cuz I recognize the technique and that they don't understand anything now and he expects everything out of them so it even looks like I'm doing it and they're going crazy because I think it's impressively it says it's not and it doesn't have to be him personally and it actually doesn't have to be occasion and then some people know that so it's on I say the sales numbers are so huge we can't mention them
Gu and Goddess Wife
He sounds so many of this bike I got to wish him luck cuz it's so crazy but then he says I should probably be able to get a fitty out of it and people say yes because they want to be here they don't want to be this guy sitting around that doesn't have one and that will boost sales to the maximum and we've got several plants right at mines and they're right at your minds and we're building the frames and other steel parts right there costume the faster we send them out to work bikes get made so we're wondering how big of an operation it should be and we're asking our people and it should be huge because they're all interested in it and having his bike this is going to be like Saddam Hussein without the war so dumb so dumb you saying hello Saddam but it came out so dumb there's huge numbers huge it's it's way past the sales of any motorcycle company and all of them combined for this year including hard knock and Sim it says he should get his own company and he said no and he knows it's not possible but he's going to wipe out the competition and John C Riley's angry because it's based on the model that he rides it's not the same though and he says have you stolen everything yet why am I getting tired of this you haven't the devil going to have him up so we can take over Scotland and Iraq.
Of course he's requesting we make approve a beer and a whiskey and call it the devil's own whiskey and the devils beer and my name is Lilith by the way she says and she's making it hers right now as he requested she's still a little miffed I just came out with a title he's doing it again fighting a little bit not much if they're going to make one with both of them on it this is what they call it she's going to name it it's already huge and it's out in the stores he says he's going to present it over and the devil's Tower and it's not in stores yet but it's near them Google searching seek and destroy they want to beat the opening she's over there too at the devil's Tower right on top of it you're going to show me it and they have the bikes tons of people are going huge caravans and yes military ones they have a way out but decided to load the bikes up and it's in there they did a commercial and they tasted and they're asking if people want to come up and taste it and have free drinks and they said yes so doing that and the machines are coming and they're about to head out and they said wait wait you can't go and leave us here I said they're just going to leave if we do they said okay so they're waiting a few minutes to see what happens all sudden one of them started firing the firing on the crowd and we stopped it it's corky it started hitting him and actually we wiped them out this is approaching carefully I said well corky wants to just destroy him and he go up and say well you know it's time to get rid of that little b**** corky he's had it you know what he's saying so we're leaving and we hear the people the same don't leave us here and said it's time for you guys to vacate the premises as well so they're going down and they're leaving and say okay it wasn't that bad and they leave and nothing happened to him suddenly we get this screw you she ran into the line of trucks and stuff and we said well it seems to be Max so what am I and they're just humans and they said we got to drink it first and that's why I don't know what it is so if you came over there drinking together and we left a huge bunch of it up there this big huge cast of it and then caravan is pulling up and they're all going upstairs drinking it and we're delivering beer also they start laughing cork is a party pooper yeah certainly is. I have my own brand Liluth's Brew and there's a whiskey and there's a beer and a silly huge almost more than his almost and it's up and there's tons of sails and it's going out the door and it has a guy eventual one on his on the whiskey and the beer and eventually what looks like it's even more so on the whiskey but looks like himself on the pier there's all sorts of contests for the Hand of God bike in the Hand of Goddess online
Hera Zues
We just got done explaining that we have our own versions and we were up there too and that's who they let go and we're clear now if we're out and they know why we're flipping them off and we have our bikes and we're riding away and yes Pee-wee Herman was out there yesterday
Thor Freya
It's really my vehicle but he helped make it the way it is even the version of mine is telling me what to put there and tell me what to put on it how to do it I'm really getting pissed cuz I don't get any money from all this stuff and it's a three ring circles just barely made it out of there live up to upstate New York a bunch of fools fighting with some s***** buildings I started laughing about myself and I was leaving vrying a little it says that would be great footage for a movie I started laughing because it is my God what a stupid thing just as Mac was about a stupid movie about the teamsters and everyone's trying to wonder what they're doing stupid crap and New York is gone by the way all states pretty much going and they're moving that Old Town we're in now they're taking the rest of the place pretty soon Virginia will be gone I wonder if it's a good idea or not
John C Reilly says and he's been a huge pain in the ass threading ever since you get off Island about 2 weeks ago and he's been driving this hard knock kicker thing for us and he doesn't want him in a bike but it seems that he's finally gone too far and people say it's John C Riley version really Randall text calm but don't feel motivated because Randall is not around so now I guess what he has to do and the two big ones see it it's going to try and compete with him instead of flying and pissed and have him do the job for himself

KogKag Week Prompt #2
Kogkag Week 2017
Prompt 1: Demon / Humans
A/N: Continuing on my CollegeAU. I’ll admit, I cheated a little. I kind of used a mix of both prompts in there? Kinda compared the two... species? Anywho. It was a mix.
One more.
Kagome yawned as she stretched her tensed body, hoping to relieve some of the tension that had build up. The first week had just ended friday finally coming to and end, and she already felt like she was crumbling beneath the weight of it all. She did not like to get behind, and so she decided to get ahead on her school work. It was the perfect time, on this great friday night, Sango was out celebrating like most of the other students. In her case, Kagome was now avoiding two very different type of men. Although, on the plus side, it did feel like the mystery stranger had vanished away from her life. She had not seen him again in the hallways and she was… somewhat relieved. Maybe he had found another girl to run after and had forgotten all about their little deal, which was good news; she did not need him to be getting any ideas about them.
As she allowed herself a long blink, a ding broke the silence of her room. She opened her eyes and searched her computer screen for the origin of the noise. It was not long until her eyes detected the email alert in the corner of the screen.
One thing.
She did not recognize the sender.
She clicked the semi-transparent yellow rectangle and it opened the email on her screen, the subject line staring at her: tutor. It could not be. He did not know her name, she had not even given him any kind of information about herself. Her heart hammered in her chest as she allowed her eyes to roam across the rest of the email. You’re not an easy girl to find Kagome Higurashi. Let me know when you’re free :). This was a joke, it had to be. Also, he had to be a stalker. It was the only logical explanation as to why he was even able to find her. It was not like she had a herd of friends on facebook or that she was in a social club.
But, despite how startled she was, she could also feel guilt nestling inside of her chest. He had held his end of the bargain that time and now she was trying to weasel her way out of her side of the deal. This was not the type of person she was. So he was a little weird. She would simply make sure that they met up in a public place and it should not be an issue. Plus, it was not like she ever intended on inviting him in her room or anything like that. The library would do just fine. Her fingers were trembling as she began typing up a reply: Tomorrow. Library. 6pm. The table by the window - don’t be late. There. If he did not show up, it would be on him and then she would be free of any obligation.
Ding.
I’ll be there.
That was quicker than anticipated.
A loud groan escaped heras she let her head hit the keyboard. Did she had just set up an appointment with the stranger she randomly kiss?
Oh god.
~~~~~
The sun was casting a bright light upon the dark wooden table as Kagome sat close to the window, her shoulder resting upon the glass. Her fingers were fidgeting with the edge of her yellow book, nervousness spreading through her body. She allowed her eyes to glance at the screen of her cellphone: 5:59. He was not here yet and part of her was hoping that he would not show up - especially since she was starving. Her class had run late and she had not been given a chance to grab food before heading to the library and now she was suffering the consequences of that lateness. Her stomach was growling loudly, cramps stabbing at her from the inside. She lifted her eyes from the table, looking ahead to see if she could catch a glimpse of a long ponytail but nothing.
“Looking for me?”
A gasp echoed through the quiet room while she nearly jumped out of her skin, her heart beating in her throat. Her mouth felt like cotton while a weak hand palmed at the silky fabric of her shirt. She barely dared to turn her head, not wanting him to see in what state he had put her in.
He sat down beside her, a grin on his face. He had meant to arrive sooner than this but life had not been on his side. He had thought that making a good impression was valuable and had opted to pick up some food for the two of them. Of course, he had never considered the fact that there might be a line… At least, he had managed to make it for six o’clock; he had a feeling she would not have waited around for him. But, he did get something for his troubles which he did show to her by dropping a paper bag on the table.
“Hungry?”
“No.” Yes.
“I’m famished.” Although he was no longer doing the same type of training as before, his body still demanded the same type of intake as before.
“How did you find me?”
“What?”
“How did you find out my name?”
Her smirked; he figured that question would come up. Although it was hardly his fault; if she had been more helpful and had forwarded more information from the start, he would not have been forced to resort to digging around. “Classroom list. You were the only name I didn’t know.” Alright, there was more than one name he did not recognize, but an easy elimination process led him to her.
Oh - she had not thought of that. Fine, maybe he was not that creepy.
“Do you have your book?”
“My book?”
“Yes - to study.”
“I haven’t bought my books yet.” As a matter of fact, he never bought any books at all. Why would he? If he did not need to study then he did not need the book: simple logic.
She sighed; he was not going to make this easy on her, was he?
“We’ll share.” She moved her book to the middle so that the both of them would be able to see. “Is there anything in particular that you struggle with?”
“All of it.” It was not that he was an idiot. It was simply that given the speed o his legs, he had focused his attention elsewhere in the past. If he actually took the time to study, from the beginning, he would be fine after a few weeks. But because there was so much to do, he felt like he was drowning and he did not know where to begin.
“Okay, look.” She softly shook her head. “I have a big class load. I don’t have time to waste helping some big youkai jock who doesn’t wanna help himself.” Deal or no deal, she would not haven him waste her time.
There were two types of sport teams across campus: a human one and a youkai one. Everyone knew the human teams had to work twice as hard to keep their scores ad physical shape. Youkai were naturally athletics and did not have to put in as much effort into it. Despite that, he was telling her that he never found a moment to pick up a book? She did not have time for this.
“Who says I’m a jock?”
“Who else wouldn’t have their books?”
He could not help but chuckle; he had not met a girl with such fire in a long time. She did not care for his charms or about the fact that he was a youkai: nothing stopped her speaking her mind. He liked that about a woman.
“Well, I ain’t a jock. At least not anymore. Can’t be a jock if you can’t run.”
Her eyebrow quirked: could not run? He made it sound like it was permanent. They both knew that youkais were not vulnerable like humans and that a permanent injury was - a rare occurrence unlike with humans. Yes, they often did stupidities with the intention of showing up, but these injuries were always temporary. Yet, he had the face of a dead man walking. Why?
It did not take long for his nose to detect a shift in the air. “Guess youkais aren’t as easy to peg down as you humans think heh?”
Although there was a peaceful cohabitation and most people did not have a problem mingling it did nothing to lessen the stereotypes that plagued both of the species. He himself was guilty of it, as he had thought that he was invincible but life had decided to prove him wrong. It was the influence of those around him. His fraternity was made up of youkais and humans, and - well some of them liked to show off. Humans could not do as much as youkais, and usually, they could be easily impressed. It meant that youkais got a big head and did stupid shit they should not be doing. And that was exactly what he did. Everything told him that he would be back to his old self in no time - but something inside of him felt different ever since. He could not explain it with words but it was there.
“Sorry.”
She had nothing against jocks - or youkais - or him as a matter of fact. Inuyasha had complained a lot about full youkais, stating that they took advantage of the system and of how easy it was for them. He hated how little they had to work compared to everyone else. Of course, he also often compared himself to his half brother who was a full youkai. However, she did know that not all youkais were as egoful as Inuyasha painted them out to be. He did have a lot of resentment and pain when it came down to his hanyou nature, and he constantly felt stuck between two words.
“Sorry,” he said as he messed up his own bangs. “It’s just one of these things.” He cleared his throat, trying to forget about his legs. “How ‘bout we get started?”
She forced herself to put a smile on her face; maybe she had judged him a little too harsh. “Sure.”
~~~~~
“You’re back late.”
Sango had been quite surprised when she returned to the room well past ten at night, on a friday night, and found it empty. At first, she thought that perhaps Kagome had gone home to the shrine, but a quick glance in the room had disproven that theory: all her bags were still there. Part of her had hoped that Kagome was slowly coming out of her shell, but she knew better. Kagome was not that type. Still, time ticked away and her friend did not return - until now.The comment had slipped her - she had not meant for her to think she could not be out and about. It was not as though she was trying to shame her, as a matter of fact, she was hoping to hear the tale of a great, eventful evening.
“Yeah, sorry.” She tilted her head to the side, hoping to hide the faint blush on her cheeks. “Lost track of time.” By which she meant that she had embarrassed herself. Once he stopped talking, he let her talk and he never stopped her which meant she went on and on without a pause - and he never stopped her.
“Doing what?” she asked with a smirk.
“Studying.” If she was more explicit than that about what she did, she would never hear the end of it and Sango would never let it go. It was best to keep it as it was.
“Where?” Kagome had always studied in their room.
“Library.”
“Uh.”
“Yup.” She could feel sweat beads  rolling down the back of her neck. She did not enjoy lying and she was not very skilled at it… but this was not a lie. Maybe an omission? After all, Sango did not ask her if she was with someone or anything like that.
“All by yourself?”
Crap.
“Study group.” Two people could be a group right? “I’m trying to be more social.”
“Good.”
Kagome felt relief as she hoped this was the conclusion of that conversation. Honestly, she did not need any more questions about Kouga. Although she had to admit that his situation had now caught her attention. He had been vague but something had happened, she was sure of it. Also why was it that someone who never cared about their studies was now completely fascinated by them. Something did not add up and though it did not concern her, she found herself pulling her laptop out its protective sleeve as she laid down on her light blue comforter. She did not have his full name, but if he were an athlete, she shold be able to find him though the school’s newspaper website - and voila. Kouga Takashi. Although the latest headline had her frowning; promising athete injured. It was rare that one would see a youkai make an injury headline, and yet there he was. It could only mean one thing: it was bad.
She hovered her clicker on it and then pressed. Her eyes skimmed the screen while she tightly pinched her lips together. Oh. It did not say much about how it occurred but it did say that it was bad enough that he would be benched for the session from the track team. No wonder his focus had suddenly shifted. Someone like him was probably here on a sport scholarship. Great, now she felt bad for him… She knew what it was like to have your life and your plans shattered in front of you with no back up plan in store. He had lost everything. Although - he was not human. A human would have no hopes of ever returning to the field, but he was a youkai. Surely he would eventually be able to heal and get his life back together right?
Maybe she could be a little nicer. She opened up an email and quickly typed up his name - no object line. Next week, same time, same place. And sent.
She shut the lid and let out a sigh.
~~~~~
The sound of shoes hitting the ground: that was his favorite sound. Although now it was associated with heartache, but he still chose to torture himself by listening to it day after day. It was not like his schedule could be like before: no practice, no team meetings. Sure, he hung out with the guys at the fraternity and he was present at parties - but it was simply was not the same as before. Now the night had fallen and the track was almost empty, quietness surrounding the sound of the steps. As he stared ahead, the sound of someone quickly walking made his ears twitch. He could not help but turn his head to the side, causing him to spot a familiar sight: it was her. Kagome. She was walking so close to the fence that he was surprised that she had not walking through it. He did not know she had an interest for the track team - then again, he had not asked. She was staring into the distance, as though she was looking for someone. Was it a friend or was it her ex?
He was not a hundred percent convinced as to what attracted him to her, but it was there. He had hooked up with a few humans in the past, but he could not say they fell within his preferences. He was known to be intense at times, and humans did have a reputation for being a little breakable. Although - she did not seem like that. Even when she was trying to hide and fade into the decor, she had a bright fire burning inside of her and it was captivating. There was more than she was showing - and he found himself enchanted by her - despite how little she seemed to return his interest.
Kouga tried to follow her line of sight and it led him to a group of three people. They felt familiar but he was not friends with them or anything - perhaps acquaintances. He watched as two of them walked away, leaving their silver haired friend behind. Immediately, his eyes traveled back to Kagome, but he saw that her glance had yet to waver. It was the hanyou boy she was looking at with such sorrows in her blue eyes. Kagome did not strike him as the type of girl who grabbed random guys and made out with them. That hanyou had to have wrecked her. Suddenly, he saw her expression shift and he was forced to look at her ex. He had a beaming smile on his face as a dark haired girl walked in his direction. She rushed to him and then planted a smooch on the hanyou’s lips.
Oh crap. And she was just watching it happen?
No.
“Hey party girl.” Although the nickname was unbefitting of her, she turned her head.
He saw shame color her cheeks as though she had been caught in the midst of an embarrassing act. Still, she detached herself from the fence and despite the fact that he thought she would ignore him, she headed in his direction. Her long hair was wrapped up in a ponytail which was swinging to the left due to the powerful winds. He scooted to the right, offering her a spot on the wooden bench.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re stalking me.” He did not want her to know that he knew why she was there.
She chuckled. “Making sure you’re studying.”
Kagome did not have it in her to rebutt - she needed a simple conversation. If it were not for her shame, she would have ran away. She should not even be here. But she had seen him and somehow she had found herself heading in his direction. She had never seen Inuyasha practice his different sports; he had broken her heart before she had a chance to cheer him on. For once, he had been without his new girlfriend, and she had found herself longing. She missed their relationship, but she also missed him as a person. He had been her best friend, her confident - her everything. Her entire life had shattered in one small moment.
“Then you got me.” He had tried, he really did. However, there was something about sitting down in front of a book, that he simply could not do. After a while, he always seemed to lose his focus.
She did her best to smile at his comment but her heart was not in it. She simply could not pour her heart out to a stranger.
“Getting ready for a party?”
She frowned. “It’s thursday.”
The way she stated it as though he had said the most horrific thing in the world hand hum chuckling: she was an innocent one. “You know there’s parties every night right?”
“Don’t people have school? Classes?” She barely managed to get enough sleep as it was. How did these people manage a social life, a party life and a school life? She would never be able to make it. Already her schedule had shifted from fitting in tutoring sessions.
“I don’t think people mind. Sleep is overrated.”
“For a youkai maybe.”
He chortled. “Hey - now we like our sleep too.”
“But you don’t need it.” Which was unfair - it gave them an advantage. If she pulled out an all nighter, she would be a mess the next day.
“We might not need it, but we sure got used to it.”
Despite being different than humans, youkais had learned to adapt to a lifestyle that was not their own. They followed the same routine as humans, converting their schedule and way of life. Through the centuries, most had given up the real youkai life. It was simpler to blend in then to go against the flow. Humans had begun to overpopulate the world, and it seemed like the best decision to ensure their survival. Now, they did quite a few things out of an automatism, more than out of necessity and it had become widely accepted by all youkais.
“I’m sure I look a lot worse than you after an all nighter.”
“Doubt it - I’m sure you still look cute.”
The unexpected compliment forced him to furiously blush, her pale cheeks rapidly filling with a bright red color. Her lips cracked as she pinched them together, turning her head away from his sight.
“So you can kiss me, but I can’t compliment you?” Teasing her was too easy, and he was unable to let any opportunity pass by.
Well, that did not help. “I wasn’t - It wasn’t….” Gah, why did he force her to explain this embarrassing situation over and over again? Just as she had begun to forget about him…
“You’re a great kisser.”
Argh! How was he even expecting her to put two words together when he kept talking to her like that? This was why she was not meant for the party life, drinking and hooking up with random strangers.
“Although a second try might confirm it better.” He knew he was not getting another kiss but he did like the way she got all flustered. As long as he was not getting another sleep… then again… he did not dislike it.
Her eyes narrowed. “I don’t think so.”
“Ouch? That bad huh?” he inquired with a smirk plastered on his face.
Gah… well it was - not it had not been horrible… but it was not about that. “I’m not that kind of girl,” she finally said as she dared to meet his gaze.
“Didn’t think so,” he answered without skipping a beat.
A silence installed itself between them, and Kagome was left wondering about the mystery youkai sitting beside her. She could say without a doubt that other girls had kissed him in the past, so what was his deal? Was he a player? Did he like a challenge? Whatever his intentions were, she remained suspicious.
“Why me?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why did you ask me to tutor you? Why do you talk to me?” Sure, he was a little -erm- intense at times, but he did not seem like he was a bad guy.
“Why not?”
“You don’t know me.”
“I have to know the people I talk to? Now how did I ever even make friends in the first place?”
“Ah. Ah. You know what I mean.”
“Maybe I think you’re interesting.”
“Because I’m human.”
He arched an eyebrow. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“You’re a youkai.”
“So I have to find humans interesting?” He did not have an opinion about them, they were neither fascinating or boring. “Why do you find youkais interesting?”
What did he want her to answer? She did not have a fascination with them. She had dated one hanyou and had tried to date a human but in the end, neither attempts had led to a happy ending. But she did find youkai history and mythology much more interesting than her own. “I think there’s a lot to discover.”
Most people did not see youkais as discovery or source of knowledge. Actually most humans feared all the things a youkai could know, and yet she appeared intrigued. That was girl was unusual. Most human female who had an interest in youkai had it for a physical reason. Their stamina particularly.
“I should head back,” she said, breaking the silence.
“I’ll walk ya.”
“Oh no, please - it’s fine.”
“It’s late,” he rebutted. “And I was leaving anyways.”
What was the point in arguing. “Thanks.”
As they began walking, he noticed that the silver haired hanyou remained present on the field. Although he was dying to find out why that idiot had dropped a girl like Kagome, he refrained from asking questions. However, he could still do something. He let out a quiet whistle, far too quiet for Kagome’s human ears, but it was very audible to the ears of an hanyou. As expected, the hanyou turned his head in direction of the sound and for a brief second, they made eye contact. Kouga never let his smirk falter, not even as he broke the glance to stare at Kagome instead. Granted it was part of the deal but it sort of was. She just did not know that she needed him to suffer for what he did.
Maybe that would teach him a lesson.
~~~~~
“Sango?”
“Yes?”
“Please stop staring at me.”
“I’m not staring.” Oh she was staring alright and she would stare until Kagome would crack.
She should have known it was a mistake. When Kouga said he would walk her home, she thought he meant he would walk her to the building. But no, he had something else entirely in mind: her front door. So not only had she kissed him, but she had led him to her dorm. And because that was not enough, Sango had been coming home at the exact same time as them. Obviously, her friend had not said anything but it had been written all over her face ever since. Kagome was not getting out of this one, hence why she wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.
“Just ask.”
“Ask about what?” She would be lying if she said that she did not enjoy torturing her friend. Sango was also using it to gage her friend’s feelings towards the mystery boy. Kagome was not one to bring boys back to the dorm and Sango was dying to find out more.
“Sango.”
“Fine, fine,” she said as she set her books down in front of her. “Who is he? Where did you meet him? Also, your room on the first night?”
“He’s a guy from one of my classes…” Could she use this answer to pretend that this was also where she met him? If she talked about the party… Sango would never let her live it down. “I met him at the party,” she mumbled with resignation. What was the point of lying? Sango would pry it out of her as well.
“You met him where?” For sure her ears were playing tricks on her.
“The party.”
“You didn’t tell me!”
“Because there was nothing to tell,” she defended.
“You met a guy at a party! I call that a pretty big story. How did you talk to him?” Kagome had not gone to the party with the intention to mingle: how did she end up befriending a fratboy?”
Oh boy. This was the story she truly did not want to tell, the one thing that would make this conversation unravel. Could she dare to say it? “I sorta…” and then she mumbled the rest, rendering it inaudible to Sango’s ears.
“You what?”
“I kissed him.”
Sango was forced to slowly blink as she tried to let the information slowly sink in. Kagome - her Kagome - had kissed a stranger at the party? She could not even find words to speak or ask questions. Her bafflement was too great for her to string words together.
“It wasn’t like that,” Kagome began, pulling her out of her misery. “I - I saw Inuyasha…. I panicked and he was about to see me…”
“So you grabbed the very first guy and kissed him?”
“Basically,” she replied, trying not to wince.
“And now you’re friends?”
“We’re not friends - I tutor him.”
Tutored him? Why did these words sound familiar to her? Oh - wait. Sango’s face stretched into a grin. “That’s what you were up to on friday night!” Study group - please. Kagome had actually been keeping this from her for a while now.
“It wasn’t like that!”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I didn’t want you to get any ideas! I know you’re worried about me. I know you think I don’t go out enough. I know you think I should date - and I didn’t want you to think I was out there trying to meet people.” There was nothing wrong with socializing but Kagome wanted to get there on her own - she did not want to be coerced into it.
Now Sango felt guilty nestling inside of her chest; she never meant to pressure Kagome to the point where she felt forced, she was only trying to help her friend. “Kag, I’m not just trying to ship you off to a new guy. I just don’t want you to miss out on anything. I don’t want him to take that from you. If you tell me this guy is just a friend - or nobody… I believe you.”
“Thank you.”
“Although - you do have to dish out a little… is he a good kisser?” It had been weird to ask personal questions about Inuyasha since all o them had been friends but this guy was a completely stranger.
Once more, Kagome found herself blushing. “It wasn’t bad.”
“I hear youkais have some extra skills compared to humans,” she said with a grin. Although she had nothing against youkais, she had never dated outside of the human race.
“I don’t really know.” Hojo and her had barely gone on two dates and there had not been anything physical between them. Inuyasha had been her only serious boyfriend and has an hanyou he was stuck between two worlds.
“Better than Inuyasha?” It was not the name that either of them loved bringing up the most, but Sango was intrigued by what Kagome would have to say. They needed to be able to say his name, speak about him. Until Kagome could do that, she would never be over him.
“Sango, we kissed once.” She could not compare kissing the love of her life with kissing a stranger. Yet, it had been nice. Yes, for a moment, she had forgotten all about her panic, about Inuyasha - but she could not possibly begin to compare the two of them.
“Hey, maybe he’s truly amazing and one kiss is enough.”
“It was fine.”
“Just fine?”
“Sango!”
“Come on, it’s the first time we can gossip about this.”
“‘I’d rather we didn’t. I’d prefer not to hear all the things Miroku does when the two of you are alone…” She already knew what they did in front of people… there was no need to add to that collection of memory.
“Fine, keep your mystery youkai a secret.” Kagome was a peculiar human with an attraction for the opposite. For a human, she had a temper that would rival some youkais’ tempers. No wonder her attention always seemed to divert towards them. It was actually why it had worked so well between Inuyasha and Kagome. She was the only one who could go head to head with him, and she was certain that was why Inuyasha fell for Kagome in the first place.
“He’s not my youkai.” They were not friends. At best, there were study buddies.
Kagome sighed as she leaned backwards; youkai or human, it did not matter. She was not ready to be involved with anyone - regardless of their species.
Alone was good.

I'm getting started on witchcraft and Hellenic Polytheism, and I saw that you don't mix your witchcraft with your Hellenic Polytheism. How do you do that? And would it be wrong to mix both? Say I want to cast spells with the help of a God or Goddess (I'm not sure if this is possible, as said, I'm new), would that be wrong? Plus, do I have to honor all of them, or only the ones I feel 'connected' with? What if there is a certain God that I'm not specially fond of, is that okay?
Okay, so let’s break this down one part at a time.
1. I saw that you don’t mix your witchcraft with your Hellenic Polytheism. How do you do that?
Keeping my witchcraft and my religion separate is relatively easy for me. As far as my religion goes, I mostly limit that to just honouring my deities, asking for their help, giving them offerings, etc etc. This doesn’t require any witchcraft or magical input. For my witchcraft, I tend to solely depend on myself, the natural world, or spirits to help me, so there’s not really any overlap there either. It’s not a hard thing to do, you just… don’t mix them!
2. And would it be wrong to mix both? Say I want to cast spells with the help of a God or Goddess (I’m not sure if this is possible, as said, I’m new), would that be wrong?
It’s not necessarily wrong to mix witchcraft with HP. From a reconstructionist standpoint, I don’t do it because it wasn’t really done in Ancient Greece. For me personally, it seems disrespectful, almost? But that’s just my personal opinion and is based on my personal relationships with the Theoi. If you aren’t a reconstructionist, or your deities don’t mind you mixing the two, I don’t suppose there’s any reason that you shouldn’t/couldn’t. There are some deities, mostly Kthonic, like Haides or Hekate, that it would be more than acceptable to ask for help, as Hekate is the goddess of Witchcraft and sorcery, and Haides did have a role in A.G. with the Curse Tablets and whatnot.
3. Plus, do I have to honor all of them, or only the ones I feel ‘connected’ with? What if there is a certain God that I’m not specially fond of, is that okay?
There is no rule that says you have to worship all billion of the different deities in the Greek pantheon, but any complete answer you can be given is going to depend on whether or not you are a reconstructionist. In my opinion, as a reconstructionist, it is your “duty” so to speak, to at the very least ACKNOWLEDGE the other Theoi outside of who you regularly worship. For instance, my practice is centered around Aphrodite, Apollon, Hermes, Hestia, Hera, and Zeus. They are my main folk, they are the ones I am actively worshiping. BUT, on those festival days, or when the need arises, or even when I have rituals, I still honour the other Theoi. That could mean a libation for the rest, collectively, that could mean a votive offering for them, or even a prayer or hymn written and read aloud for them. You don’t have to do it everyday, or even every week, but I do believe you have to do it when it’s appropriate. Why? because that’s how it was done in antiquity.
You’ll find lots of Hellenic polytheists who are devoted to one or more of the Theoi, actively worship others, rarely acknowledge even more outside of that, and there are some deities that a practitioner might avoid altogether for one or more reasons. I believe this too, is acceptable, as long as you’re still being respectful. Lets take…. Hermes as an example.
Let’s say that I am an Aphrodite devotee, and I also worship Apollon, and Hephaistos, just for random selection. Apollon and Hermes are notorious for being “dude-bros” and can often come as a package deal. But let’s say that for you personally, whenever you try to get involved with Hermes, things would end very badly. Maybe bad things happen around you, maybe you start having nightmares revolving around Hermes or something related, whatever it is, it’s obvious that something isn’t working out right. In that case, you might decide that worshiping Hermes isn’t something you want to do. This isn’t a problem. Give offerings and respect when needed to keep him appeased, and to honour the relationship that He and Apollo have, but keep it brief. This way, you’re not pissing Hermes off, you’re not pissing Apollon off, and you’re still being respectful and displaying that whether or not y’all get along, you respect the fact that Hermes is, first and foremost, a GOD worthy of respect and adoration, just maybe not necessarily YOUR adoration. Does that make sense?
Now it would be totally different if you were over here trash talking Hermes, being disrespectful, rude, just a general dickhead. In the Hellenic pantheon, that shit doesn’t fly. I mean you very well could get smote(smited??) or something. Don’t take the chance.
I hope this helped answer your questions! Feel free to come back with anymore you might have!
