Points that I feel need a little elaboration:
I am so normal about them: I use the word "normal" as a synonym for "utterly obsessed with" and "absolutely love and adore". (I don't like the word in itself, hence, the only context I use it in, is this. But that is another story.)
*puts them in a salad spinner*: as in, the salad spinner is my brain, and he keeps rotating in it at high centrifugal force.
Canon isn't real if I don't look at it and That's a solid design right there: Detco Canon is... As much as I love it, I think we can agree it has its shortcomings/issues, and one of them is coming up. These two points go hand in hand at this moment because LOOK AT HIM!!! LOOK AT HIM!!! THIS MAN IS A BABY!!! LOOK AT HIM, HE'S PERFECT!!! THE SPIKY HAIR!!! THE SHAPES!!! THE COLOUR PALETTE!!! HE'S SO CUTE!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I resonate with this particular video: his new design in the anime (partly thanks to the general Square-and-Pointy-fication) is just... THEY HAD THE PERFECT MAN. IT'S A CRIME. Bless that he is at least still cute in the manga, even if not the same way as in the early anime. The sharp cheekbones and soft looking hair have their charm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My point is: THIS!!!! MAN!!! IS!!! A BABY!!!!
Literally I would kiss them and I want to BITE them: he makes me go FERAL with LOVE, and makes me feel like I want to gnaw on something or eat a whole fridge or scream endlessly into a pillow. I wouldn't do it to HIM (I'll leave that to Satou Miwako), but generally, the feeling is there. (Okay, I'll be honest, I would totally give him forehead, cheek, or hair kisses.)
To close his section, have one of my favourite bits about this Baby Of A Man. That poll was absolutely right about him, THE ULTIMATE BABYGIRL (and Malewife TM).

II. Kuroba Kaito/Kaitou KID
The Local Mischief and Chaos Bringer Personal Special Tag: #the magical agent of chaos
Tumblr media
LOL I DIDN'T EXPECT TO GET A BINGO, EVEN WITH THE FREE SPACE HAHA
Some points are the same as for Takagi, but here is elaboration on the ones that don't match:
Bastard, A Beast Unleashed and They didn't get bullied enough: let's be real. He's an Absolute Menace. And I sort of love that about him. Highly competent (competency makes me go weak), and if that is not scary (and hot) I don't know what. And sometimes he also goes too far (lifting skirts is not okay at all, Kaito) and needs someone to put a leash on him (or kick a soccer ball at him/chase him in a classroom). I feel that sometimes he needs a bit of bullying a challenge, to think about things. And again, honesty: I love seeing him suffer a bit, I love his Panic Moments LOL. Not in a mean way. But I also love how kind he is; the baseball chapter in the MK manga has my heart, and the Clock Tower Heist, and the Red Tear chapter... Not to mention the Nightmare arc. He cares about people and making others happy. I feel I went on a tangent here. Onto the bastard bit: he CAN BE SUCH A BASTARD AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT HIM TOO. Two of my favourite bits of Bastardry from him include 1) HOW HE DISGUISED AS RAN AND HOW HE BAITED SHINICHI AT THE VERY END OF THAT ENCOUNTER and 2) THE WAY HE SENDS SHINICHI CAREENING IN THE SIDECAR LIKE IT'S NOTHING (but also Shinichi getting right back at him and setting fire to the fckin fuel.) Pure Bastard Energy.
I want their gender: I love the way he is just so free-spirited about how he dresses/disguises. And I love the thought of him and Aoko doing outfit swaps (I blame that competition in MK for these. Also look at these delightful posts on the topic).
Canon isn't real if I don't look at it: I have... issues, with canon, you could say. Like the way he has no support system, especially bothers me. I would like to see his character treated with more care (be it MK or DetCo). I live for good character development, and I crave that for him.
To close this section, have one of my favourite conversations between these two menaces of nature.
Tumblr media
⊱✿⊰
III. Australian Animal of Choice: Koala
Fun fact: I've been in love with koalas ever since I got a keyholder plushie from relatives in Australia when I was like... in kindergarten? Or early elementary? Also don't worry, *puts on sunglasses* I wouldn't have mentioned animals, if I thought I couldn't work with them.
Tumblr media
Elaboration is needed here I feel.
I am so normal about them: I'm not as obsessed as I used to be but I'm eternally fond of koalas. Did you know their fingerprints are so similar to us they could be mistaken for human fingerprints? Or how they spend most of their time sleeping because the eucalyptus they consume is toxic? Or how they can actually swim well? Or how they are literally surviving by being Dumb As Shit because Being Dumb Saves Energy? Yeah, I'm totally normal about them.
*projects onto them like a mf* and I want their gender: Oh to be a koala, just existing, sleeping, sometimes waking up to eat some eucalyptus, then going right back to sleep. I want that.
That's a solid design right there: HAVE YOU SEEN THEM? SO FLUFFY LOOKING!!! WITH BIG CLAWS!!! THE BIG NOSE!!! SO SHAPED!!! NOT TO MENTION THE EARS!!!
They are so silly and They Sure Do Exist: how did this animal even come into existence? Weird lil creatures. THEY ARE JUST SO SILLY. THE NOISES THE MAKE. Like oh my god.
Literally I would kiss them: THEY JUST LOOK SO SOFT, HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME NOT TO BURY MY FACE IN THE FUR?
⊱✿⊰
IV. Kudou Shinichi/Edogawa Conan
*Prof Agasa voice* He has many nicknames, like Gremlin Child, Absolute Menace, Ultimate Baby, Lil Nerd, Walking Encyclopedia Son, or Disaster Child. I think I call him as many names as I do my dear Rosie, so that is quite telling LMAO Personal Special Tag: #the detective gremlin
Tumblr media
HDSBSKDB DOUBLE BINGO (AND ALMOST 4 BC HE'S ALSO DET'S FAV, SO ALMOST CROSSED OUT PROXY TOO KSJNVKSVNJS OK, my love for him is showing, I guess)
EDIT: FCKIN TRIPLE BINGO AS @vampirecatsw POINTED OUT oh my god, I'm blind
Again, some thoughts on relevant bits.
*projects onto them like a mf*: THIS CHILD IS SO FCKIN NEURODIVERGENT, AND I FCKIN RELATE, ALSO HE LOVES AND CARES SO DEEPLY IT HURTS AND I RELATE SO HARD.
A Beast Unleashed: another MENACE OF NATURE. You cannot let him roam free, he finds trouble like it's Breathing. Also love it when he goes ballistic. Or when he shows how competent he is. Like GOD. HE'S AMAZING, and he's a danger to criminals and himself, mostly.
Everyone else if wrong about them: not EVERYONE, just... some people. We agreed with a friend that some of our issues in portrayal lies with the fandom sort assigning him traits that Hakuba has, but not Shinichi (Hakubification). Of course, people can have their fun with it, but it's not for me and have my own opinions on the matter.
Canon isn't real if I don't look at it: again, DetCo has issues. Like the lack of continuity/ erased character development, or not bringing up issues ever again, and the like. Early DetCo was GOOD at these, and I miss those times.
That's a solid design right there and I fuck with this aesthetic so hard: HE IS!!!! SO SHAPED!!!!! SO ROUND!!! (or at least used to be) THE GENTLE CURVES OF HIS FACE!!! THE SILLY HAIR!!!! NOT TO MENTION HIS FCKIN WARDROBE!!!! I'M OBSESSED WITH HIM!!! Also, I have a huge thing for blue eyes and dark hair combination, not to mention the glasses... I'm fckin weak for glasses... god. He just hits all the right spots in my heart and brain. (Not to mention his personality, I WANT TO CRY I LOVE HIM SO MUCH-)
They didn't get bullied enough: I live for others teasing Gremlin Child. It's not quite bullying (never HURT HIM FOR REAL, I'LL CRY), but he needs to be TEASED MORE FOR SURE. I guess Bastardry also fits into this, that's good too.
SQUEAK: sometimes he is just so DUMB I want to SQUISH HIM HARD OR SHAKE HIM. I LOVE HIM, I SO DO, even if he is an idiot at times. God. I love him.
Literally I would kiss them and I want to BITE them: HIS CHEEKS ARE SO PERFECTLY ROUND I WANT TO CHOMP ON THEM. ALSO ALL THE KISSES TO HIM!!!!! BABY BOY!!!! GIVE HIM ALL THE KISSES!!!! AND HUGS TOO!!!
Bastard: the way he FCKS WITH SOME CRIMINALS. OH MY GOD. THE WAY HE IS SOMETIMES A MENACE ON PURPOSE. THE WAY HE SOMETIMES GETS SO ANNOYED HE JUST GOES FOR HIS WATCH. Also the way he is an absolute bastard to KID. His attitude is just so. *chef kiss* Love a menace of a child, HE'S AMAZING. HIS RAZOR SHARP SMIRK, THE MISCHIEVOUS CHILD FACE.
I have way too many favourite bits related to this boi. So. Have these random screencaps from my DCMK folder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope you have fun reading this madness, Cyn! I HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST, YOU HAVE MY ETERNAL LOVE, may you have an absolutely blessed day, dear.

Brick Club 4.2.1
I started this chapter freshly annoyed with Marius but very quickly found myself realizing how blinded I’ve been by the authorial lens I’ve been peering through. I’m more annoyed now that it took me this long to strip away Hugo’s Romantic-colored glasses in regard to Marius. It was less what new information I gained and more I found the right combination of story elements, mixing the secret understanding-Marius-Pontmercy sauce.
Tumblr media
The Gorbeau raid should have clarified some broader truths for Marius, even if it left him with a more numerous yet narrower set of questions than he had when he started. The thing is, he was happy with his nebulous fantasy of what could be, but when actually faced with real answers to real questions, he shuts down entirely. I was ready and able to castigate Marius for falling short of self-awareness yet again, but then Hugo kept talking.
“He had discontinued his work, and nothing is more dangerous than discontinued labour; it is habit lost. A habit easy to abandon, difficult to resume.” Hello, alienation. Actual physical distance from alienating labor makes you realize how mentally and emotionally distant you had already been from it. You were only doing it because you needed the money, the capitalist demands of productivity were killing any outside satisfaction you may have gleaned from it. Hugo then claims: “Thought is the labor of the intellect, reverie its pleasure. To replace thought by reverie is to confound poison with nourishment” and Marius is falling into such a trap. Ok, I’ll bite, I’ve criticized him for this very thing many times (and pointed out this is likely a byproduct of profound alienation and isolation). Hugo appears to agree, identifying reverie and labor as having an explicitly inverse correlation. But suddenly there’s a new flavor here, and it’s not working. Hugo not only claims correlation, but jumps to extrapolate causation: “Woe to the brain-worker who allows himself to fall entirely from thought into reverie!” An excess of reverie must cause a lack of labor (which can only result in suicide or crime and, oh, I’ll get to that). Except…no, that isn’t how systems work. Individuals don’t allow themselves to be alienated, it’s an inherent aspect of the society they exist in. Hugo has picked out a thread and declared himself done, but I intend to sit here and pull it. Let’s talk about capitalism and mental illness.
This is going to be a Long Post(tm) as I try to construct an appropriate lens to view this chapter through. Light content warning for discussion of suicide (mostly in an academic and historic context) and talk of mental illness.
His attempted example of Escousse and Lebras becomes its own counterexample with little effort. Victor Escousse and Auguste Lebras were poets and playwrights who committed suicide together after their play, Raymond, was a failure, declared guilty of an “excess of reverie” by Hugo. Honoré de Balzac said, “Escousse and Lebras have died, like many young people, from the disenchantment of their time. They died because they found nothing to do in this world, in the midst of this society, as the last forty years have done to us.” Well, that’s kind of right but for all the wrong reasons. They didn’t have “nothing to do,” both writers were actively doing labor. They were barely twenty years old and had produced multiple works each. They both had invested their sense of self so deeply in their labor, that’s its failure became a failure of their very beings. This is doubly crushing in a (capitalist) system that primarily values you for your labor! I’d be fucking disenchanted. The problem is both Hugo and Balzac have the entirely wrong idea of what is the cause and what is the effect. Reverie and disenchantment aren’t affecting people’s labor, the system of labor is so alienating and exploitative that people are turning to suicide or crime as their only answer to society.
I emphasize the connection to labor because Hugo does so, but there’s a host of other social influences we could consider in interpreting this vague notion of reverie. Emilie Durkheim’s Suicide categorizes the motivations for suicide by degrees of social integration and moral regulation, and if I wanted to lean entirely into that, I could say revolutionary France is a petri dish of anomie, a societal state of low moral regulation, meaning society lacks a foundational set of norms, often due to rapid change on a societal level, good or bad. Anomic suicides are characterized by a sense of alienation and a lack of purpose and are common in the wake of significant social upheaval.
So...I said I was talking about mental illness and..I haven’t really. I mean, I have but I’ve mostly talked around it, alienation and anomie and bullshit. I’ve rewritten this section multiple times now, trying to find a way to ground this to Marius and to me, honestly. There’s a balance that needs to be struck between the social and the individual and mileage will vary. Hugo treats reverie like an actual drug, an external indulgence that you either partake in or not. It’s characterized too much as an individual weakness of character. Yet at the same time, Durkheim’s interpretation is too reliant on broader social explanations. Hugo is pretty dismissive of class, but we know now that mental illness disproportionately affects the working class. But it’s also a product of individual brain chemistry, my seratonin whatever doesn’t give a shit about about societal moral regulation. Ugh, I just don’t know what the right balance is and it’s impossible to filter that past my own experiences with mental illness. Maybe I’ve successfully presented some contextual space to move around in.
With all of this in mind, let’s look back to Marius without the easy excuses of voluntary reverie or even labor clouding our perspective. Marius is way ahead of us, having sampled and discarded meaningless labor entirely. “He had lost the capability of work, and of moving firmly toward a definite end, but he was more clear-sighted and correct than ever…His judgement, almost detached from hope, soared and floated aloft.” Marius isn’t high on the drug of reverie, he’s dissociating. The Romantic glorification of ecstasy and melancholy—“The soul which loves and which suffers is in the sublime state”—is disguising the fact that Marius is profoundly depressed (likely has been for awhile) and, having lost his few coping mechanisms, is spiraling. His father was wrong about Thenardier, Ursula The Lark may not be the innocent girl he thought she was, the facts of his carefully balanced world of possibilities have been overturned. If I were inhabiting Durkheim, I would peg Marius as the poster child of anomic suicide. The possibilities before him are so unbounded that they’re overwhelming and he’s lost every set of foundational values he’s ever held on to. Even the value of transcending values has turned on him, his decision to stay neutral in the Gorbeau raid weighing on him just as heavily as the prospect of having chosen a side.
The clearest indication of this is the very end of the chapter. Grasping for anything to hold on to, Marius comes across the Field of the Lark and, through the desperate logic of a depressed mind, decides this is Ursula’s field and substitutes his daily walks in the Luxembourg Garden with visits to this obscure field. “The whole mind condenses abruptly around one idea, and ceases to be capable of any other perception.” In this state, he clings to the unfixed ideal of The Lark even more than before, needing a touchstone that can neither be confirmed nor denied. Schrodinger’s coping mechanism.

An Art of Balance #1
A/N: I can’t believe I’m doing this, welcome to my fanfiction comeback after more than ten years. Jesus Christ, I’m nervous af. Feel free to comment and correct me (not my first language, sorry if sth is wrong), I’d be super happy for someone to beta me in fact! As the quidditch timelines are kind of messed up, I put Skye and MC in the same year, ignoring the fact that they are not supposed to know each other initially. Orion and McNully are one year above them. Enjoy!
 Word Count: ~ 2.800

“What I dream of is an art of balance.”- Henri Matisse
 Chapter 1: New Beginnings
It was a hot day. It was, in fact, far too hot for this time of the year. The sun was blazing down relentlessly on Kings Cross Station, its windows shining in the glaring sunlight. It was not only hot, the air was also muggy as well. Lizzie Jameson fidgeted in her clothes as she pushed her cart through the dense mass of students and parents saying their goodbyes, looking for familiar faces to begin her ride to Hogwarts for her fifth year with.
“Do try to stay out of trouble this time, will you, dear?”
Her mother was walking closely behind her, eager to give her daughter last minute advice on how to behave properly for once. Lizzie rolled her eyes at the huge grey cat towering above her trunk in its cage, only listening half-heartedly.
“Sure, Mum, I’ll try my best… it’s not like I’m asking for trouble, you know?”
She heard the soft laugh of her mother and turned around to see her smiling fondly at her.
“I’m not so sure of that one.”
She opened her arms and Lizzie gave her a hug.
“Oi, Jameson! Over here!”
She looked up and saw a familiar head of black and blue hair waving through the crowd. Lizzie let go of her mother.
“Mum, there’s Skye over there, waiting for me.”
“It’s alright, dear. Go on ahead.”
Her mum gave her another quick hug and slightly pushed her away. “Just promise me to try. Be good, study and write sometime!”
Lizzie just laughed, barely listening anymore, waved and made her way over to Skye, who was standing beside her father in a thick mass of flustered students admiring the Quidditch star. He broke into a smile as he saw her approach.
“Well, if it isn’t Elizabeth Jameson, the second best chaser Hufflepuff has seen in a while!” Ethan Parkin, famous chaser of the Wigton Wanderers, gave her a slap on the back. “Are you ready for another shot at the Quidditch cup, Lizzie? I already gave Skye a detailed briefing on how to- “.
“It’s alright, dad,” Skye piped in, “I can recite your strategies in my sleep, we’ll be good.” She grinned at Lizzy. “Let’s go find a seat and some of the others. I can’t wait to tell you what stunts I’ve been trying out over summer break!”
The Hogwarts Express was slowly running out of Kings Cross station when Skye and Lizzie finally had a chance to look for a place to seat. Having been on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team for several years now, they had gained quite the popularity with their house mates.
Exhausted from greeting what felt like the whole of their house, they finally found the department they had been looking for. Inside sat the rest of their little Quidditch gang, their fellow chaser and team captain Orion Amari and the not-so-impartial commentator Murphy McNully. McNully was excitedly telling Orion what seemed to be the new statistics he had come up with during summer break, while Orion was sitting cross-legged on his seat with his eyes closed and a zoned-out smile on his face. When they entered, he opened his eyes and smiled warmly at the sight of them.
“Ah, there you are! I knew there was a 77% chance of you coming here to join us, we kept seats for you!” McNully shouted excitedly.
“What are the other 23%?”, Lizzie wanted to know.
“You might have run into Penny Haywood or Rowan Khanna first. I think the chances of Rowan actually enjoying our company are at about 16 %. At best. So, I figured she wouldn’t want to sit with us. Which means, if she would have met you first, she would have asked you to sit with her, which you would of course have agreed to, as she is you best friend because you met her back in Diagon Alley before your first year and- “.
“Shut up, McNully.” Skye rolled her eyes at him and looked over to Lizzie. “It’s true though, she doesn’t really seem to like us that much.”
Lizzie shrugged. “No idea really, she actually really enjoys Quidditch. I guess she is just more of the watching type. Or reading about it, for that matter. But don’t you worry about her.”
Lizzie laid back in her seat next to Murphy, enjoying the cool air that was streaming from the partially open window into the stuffed cabin. She leaned forward again, putting her feet on the seat opposite of her and looked at her friends. “So, what have you guys been up to this summer? Ready for a brand-new year, brand-new season?”
Skye’s face immediately lit up with excitement. “You bet I am! Wait ‘til you see the tricks my dad taught me! We will stomp Ravenclaw into the dust in no time, just you wait!”
McNully only shook his head next to her. “Winning against Ravenclaw only makes up 30 % of what it takes to win the Cup, Skye. There are still Gryffindor and Slytherin to beat as well.”
Skye tilted her head, looking at him questioningly. “That’d make 90 %, what’s with the missing 10 %? Luck or what?”
McNully laughed. “I don’t believe in luck. No, it’s way better than that! We’re talking team compositions, daily form, weather conditions, bludger flight path velocity…” He gazed dreamily into the distance. “I could go on forever.”
Skye shook her head. “Don’t. Besides, all that stuff doesn’t help you win a match if you can’t hold yourself on a broom when you need to.
“But it can!”, McNully retorted, “There are so many factors influencing that as well. Just think about the grip factor on the broom handle, or centrifugal powers during turns or- “
Leaving them to their discussion, Lizzie got up and sat down next to her team captain. Watching them bicker back and forth, she couldn’t help but smile fondly. “They will never find middle ground, will they?”
Orion watched them thoughtfully. “Why would they? All the different beliefs we have are but representations of the many sides of Quidditch.”
Lizzie looked at him, processing what he just had said. “I guess you’re right.” She smiled. “How has your summer been?”
He shrugged. “I’ve let myself flow wherever the universe destined me to go.”
Lizzy shook her head at his answer, nebulous as ever. “And have you flown any interesting place in particular?”
“I did spend a lot of time surrounded by nature, reconnecting with myself, finding the balance to focus on what’s to come.”
Lizzie grinned. “So, wandering about in the woods, is that it?”
Orion chuckled softly. She had a way of breaking down his words. “Yes, you could put it that way.”
They chatted on about hiking and the trails Lizzie’s parents had taken her to this summer for a while before they fell into a comfortable silence, watching the trees outside rush by and listening to Skye’s and McNully’s bickering.
*
Lizzie jerked awake when the door to their department banged open and a whirlwind of blond hair burst in. Judging by the golden light outside, she must have slept for almost the entire ride.
“Lizzie, Skye! It’s so good so to see you all, I’ve been looking for you since we left London.”
Penny Haywood smiled her radiant smile at them, letting herself fall into the seat next to Lizzie. Lizzie rubbed her eyes, brain still foggy from her nap. “The train is only so long, and we’ve almost arrived, what have you been doing for so long?”
Penny giggled. “Oh, you know, catching up here and there, saying hello to people… There is SO much stuff I have to tell you later!”
Lizzy grinned at her. “Lots of juicy gossip?”
Penny laughed out loud. “You bet!” She lowered her voice. “Did you know that Billingsley apparently blew up his pumpkin pastry earlier, right in Merula Snyde’s face? And rumour has it, Tonks and Tulip have declared a prank war for this year!”
Lizzy shot an annoyed glance at Skye, who had started talking considerably louder, waving her hands in McNully’s face when Penny had entered. “No, I didn’t know that,” she replied. “Sounds like we’re in for quite a ride.”
“As always with these two.” Penny turned towards the cage where the ears of Lizzies cat had jerked up upon her entering. “Aw, hello Mousey, my sweet darling, have you missed me?” The grey cat purred, rubbing her head against Penny’s outstretched hand through the bars of her carrier.
Skye snorted. “Are you talking to that little devil over there? I swear, if that fur ball so much as touches my quills this year, I’ll make a hat out of her!”
Ignoring her, Penny rubbed Mouse’s chin. “We have no idea who she is talking about, right, Mousey? Such a good girl you are!” She suddenly looked up, waving at someone passing by their carriage. Lizzie followed her gaze just to see whoever she had been waving at quickly picking up their pace. But not quick enough for her to not recognise the familiar face.
She got up off her seat and stepped out into the hallway. “Hey, Rowan! Hey, wait up!” Rowan Khanna, her best friend since the beginning of her Hogwarts journey together, stopped dead in her tracks and turned.
“Oh… hey, Liz… sorry, didn’t see you. How’s things going?”
Lizzie frowned. She’d imagined Rowan being excited to see her, hugging her and asking about her summer, like she always did. She opened her mouth to speak when Penny, who had followed her, spoke up.
“Hello Rowan, how are you? Congratulations again on becoming a prefect, first step to being Head Girl managed!”
Rowan said nothing, looking sheepishly at Lizzie, whose gaze had dropped to the shiny yellow and black prefect badge sitting on the chest of Rowan’s robes.
“Wow, Rowan congrats! You really deserve that,” Lizzie exclaimed. She’d had no idea her best friend had been being chosen as one of Hufflepuff’s new prefects.
Rowan’s cheek blushed a little. “Yeah, well thanks, I guess. See you guys at the station.”
She awkwardly waved goodbye and hurried off. Penny arched her eyebrows. “What was that about? She was rather weird, wasn’t she?”
Lizzie didn’t answer, still staring after her friend. She remembered what Penny had said. “You knew about her becoming prefect?” she asked.
Penny looked at her bewildered. “Of course, she wrote to me as soon as she learned. Didn’t she tell you?”
Lizzie shook her head. “No, not a word. We didn’t write a lot this summer, in fact. I thought she would have told me something that important to her.”
Penny shrugged. “Don’t worry, maybe your letters were just badly timed or something.” They stepped back into their cabin and Penny dropped into her seat. “Do you know who else was chosen?”
“I only know Charlie is a prefect now, he told me as soon as the owl arrived.”
Penny smiled a very innocent smile at her. “Charlie Weasley instantly sent you a letter when he learned he was appointed prefect?”
Lizzie shot her a glance. “Stop looking at me like that. Yes, he did, because we happen to be friends. Just friends, alright? No baseless assumptions before the new term has even started!”
Penny just grinned, prompting Lizzie to roll her eyes. “Actually, I had thought they would choose you, Penny. Top notch grades, loved by everyone, barely getting into trouble, sounds like an ideal prefect.”
“Not since she started hanging with us,” Skye chuckled. “Penny’s been to too many pre- and post-match parties for the teachers’ liking, I guess.”
A light laugh escaped Penny’s throat. “Busted! But how could I say no to celebrating victory with the Skye Parkin?”
Skye said nothing and looked out of the window for a moment. “More celebrating defeat when it comes to last year.” Her attention shifted over to Orion. “Seriously though, do you have a plan for this year? Like, we finished last year in not the best state and we need a new beater as well.”
Lizzie went pale at that. “Merlin forbid, you won’t have me play beater again, will you?”
Orion looked at her calmly. “As you know, to me all positions are equal, merging into one another to form one complete team.”
Skye grabbed hold of Lizzie’s arm possessively. “Oh no, no, no, Amari, don’t you dare taking her from me again. That season with her as beater was mediocre at best. We want to have a shot at the Cup, we need her as our third chaser.”
“Don’t fear Skye. While I think Lizzie made a formidable beater, I agree with you. She’s evolved into a true chaser. No, we will hold try outs to see if a new calling arises in one of our fellow housemates.”
Satisfied with his answer, Skye let go of Lizzie, who was peering out of the window.
“I am really glad to hear that.” She pulled Skye to her feet.
“Come on, girls, we’re almost there, let’s get changed.” She grabbed the bag with her school robes inside and waited impatiently until Skye had dug up hers out of the chaos that was her trunk.
***
They had nearly arrived at Hogsmeade Station when Skye, Penny and Lizzie returned.
Orion was clasping his robe over his sweater, feeling uncomfortable. He hated wearing his school uniform, he always felt confined in them. He was already looking forward to changing into his loose shirt and coat again.
He touched his tie, looking at McNully questioningly. “Good?”
His friend grinned at him. “Not as good-looking as me, but good enough, I guess.”
He pointed to Orion’s neck. “You forgot your necklace, though.”
Orion ran his hand over the round pendant he always wore around his neck, tucking it down his shirt. “No, I didn’t. I am not taking it off if I don’t have to.”
“I know.” McNully waved a hand at him. “I’ve never seen you without it, except when you’re playing Quidditch, which is because all pieces of jewellery have to be removed for safety reasons, since we became friends, which was in our first year, of course, when you took the bed next to me in the dorm and we started chatting and…”
He actually managed to stop himself. “What I want to say, I know you don’t like taking it off.”
The door opened and Penny, Skye, and Lizzie re-entered the cabin. Skye wasn’t looking too happy to be wearing a skirt and robes instead of her signature house sweater and jacket. Orion saw her touching her tie in the same uncomfortable way he had just done.
“Ugh, I hate this uniform so much, it’s just so uncomfortable,” she complained promptly. “I really don’t see why we have to change for, what, two hours, before going back to the Common Rooms and getting out of these. We’ll be wearing them enough during the year.”
Lizzie rolled her eyes at her before reaching for her cat snoozing in her cage. “Can you just stop complaining, please? It’s not like you can change it.”
“Yes, but I can make a point about not liking it.”
“They just want everyone to look proper when the new students walk into the Great Hall for the first time.” Penny casually brushed some dirt off Skye’s shoulder, who shut up immediately.
“Speaking about looking proper, Lizzie, you should really brush out your hair, I don’t think Professor Sprout would appreciate you walking in with hair that messy.”
Lizzy touched her hair she still had tied up in a bun, now worse for wear from the heat and the wind coming from the window. “Oh, I forgot about that.” She pulled her hair band out, shaking out her light brown curls, brushing through them with her fingers as a makeshift brush. “Better?”
Penny looked at her dubiously. “Not much, but it’ll do, I think.” She ran her fingers through a strand of Lizzie’s hair. “I do have to say though, that new length suits you so well, Liz, I’m glad you listened to me and chopped it off.”
Orion watched Lizzie tucking her hair behind her ear. Penny was right, it suited her a lot. Until the end of last year, Lizzie’s long hair had almost come down to her waist. Not being the tallest, it had always made her look younger than she was, almost drowning her.
Now it ended just below her shoulders, the shorter length allowing it to curl stronger than before. She looked much more grown up like that, more feminine. As they were leaving the train, McNully, who was pushing his wheelchair in front of him, shot him a side glance.
“Lizzie looks changed, doesn’t she?”
Orion wondered if he had seen him looking. On second thought, of course he had.
“Is it important how we look on the outside when all that matters is our inside?” he evaded his question nebulously. For once, McNully didn’t reply, following the girls up to the carriages waiting for them.

the fool rushes in [1/2]
Judge is decidedly off kilter when he goes to find Kore in the Red Veil headquarters. How all six of the Syndicates were able to set up offices next to each other in every relay without coming to violence is beyond him.
It had taken him a little longer than he’d thought to negotiate with a few other Tenno he was on actual speaking terms with. Mostly because it’s incredibly hard to tell when another Tenno is awakened from the dream or not, and also because Kore firmly refuses to work with anyone for longer than necessary. And since Judge is almost always with Kore - well, mostly after he woke up from the dream - that means Judge hasn’t had much of a chance to form bonds with the other Tenno, either.
After that he was immediately summoned - unexpectedly - to the Arbiters where he was subject to an incredibly embarrassing and surreal vetting.
(“We feel that you have strayed from the path, Tenno. This destroyer from the Red Veil corrupts you and your purpose.”)
Overall, Judge feels like he’s had his head thrown into a centrifuge and it doesn’t help that he had to go through both Cephalon Simaris and Suda before meeting up with the other Tenno. Both meetings ran a little long in that both Cephalons were watching over his shoulder as he went through their data bases and making comments that he’s certain they wouldn’t be happy to be told were really -
Well. Not logical?
Judge feels like he’s going to burst straight out of Mag at any second. He’s pretty sure that his knee is jiggling back in his Orbiter. Or something.
The doors to the Red Veil headquarters slide open, and the first wave of heat always makes him want to double take. A few heads turn his way, many of the Red Veils Respected and Honored turn to give him odd looks.
He isn’t exactly unwelcome here - at least, not as unwelcome here as he is with the Perrin Sequence and New Loka - but it’s a close thing. The Red Veil’s sent a few death squads after him, mostly out of protocol.
Kore’s dealt with them all with an easy, precise, almost bored lack of attention. It reminds him that during the war she was one of the best soldiers. Good enough, even, to warrant Ballas’ attention, himself.
Judge flips open his general broadcast - “Is Persephone here?”
If she’s not here she’d be with the Steel Meridian, but if possible Judge would like to avoid going there. He tends to get teased. At least the members of the Red Veil keep silent about their dislike of him. Aside from the ever ominous heavy and filtered breathing through their masks.
One of them approaches now, looking Judge’s warframe up and down slowly, appraising him.
“Are you worthy?” It - Judge can never tell if the members of the Red Veil are biologically male or female - murmurs.
Judge doesn’t know how to answer to that. He feels Kore deeper in the room, and looks up for her -
It takes him a second to place her. Kore rarely switches between her warframes unless she has a very specific task - and even rarer still, she doesn’t really change the colors of her warframes very much either.
He had known she’d recently obtained the modification blueprints to alter her Frost frame, but he didn’t think he’d - uh. Encounter it here.
“Revered one,” The Red Veil members nod and lower their heads to her as they pass. The glittering crystals hanging off of Frost’s horns seem to spark like lightning in the flames she walks over.
“Hades,” his name slides over across the network.
“Are you worthy?” The same Red Veil member repeats to him and Kore looks between the two of them.
Judge chooses to ignore this.
“Are you good to go?” Judge asks.
Frost’s shoulders shrug, walking past him. He jumps when he feels Frosts’s cold metal hand smack Mag’s ass, “Yeah. We’re good.”
She switches to their private channel, her voice doing a remarkable and humbling amount to soothe his frazzled nerves. “What took you so long? I was starting to think I’d actually have to accept promotion here if I couldn’t talk my way out of it.”
“Again?” Judge asks.
Kore doesn’t actively work with Red Veil - their respect for her mostly comes from her close work with the Steel Meridian.
“Mhm,” Frosts’s head nods, arm slinging around Mag’s shoulders as they head back to their retrieval ships. “When you said quick stop at the relay, I didn’t realize you’d take so long.”
“I didn’t realize I’d take so long, either,” Judge replies. He really hadn’t anticipated just how many people would want to talk to him.
Mag leans into Frost, just a little bit. Frost is cold, but Mag was designed to not overheat in battle, so it’s fine.
Judge hopes that someday Kore is comfortable enough around him to touch him as easily as she touches others with her warframe.
“So what were you in meetings about?” Kore asks, ignoring everyone - Judge attempts to wave at a few frames he recognizes, but Frosts’s long legs force Mag to half-trot to keep up.
“I have something - a research thing for Suda,” Judge half-lies. He’s terrible at lying - he’s never had a reason to - and Kore has a very strong, very accurate, very perceptive radar for lies told to her. “Are you free tonight?”
Kore hums, a sound that tickles Judge’s ear through their com-line and also seems to make Frosts’ metal chassis vibrate. No sound through Frost, though, just cold mist over the frame’s faceplate.
“Depends, am I going to be diving into the Derelict to save you again? Or have we learned that particular lesson?”
Judge grimaces. “I mostly had it.”
“Mhm,” He can picture her rolling her eyes, “I’m free.”
“I’ll come get you. Suda’s requesting more data on Titania’s grove. Now that the fires are out and it’s recovering I figure this would be a good time to gather data on regrowth.”
Frost’s body stiffens in the way Judge knows to mean that he has Kore’s attention, even though she doesn’t want to show it.
“Earth?” She confirms, “A night cycle on earth?”
“Yeah,” Judge says, “I’ll come get you when I’m ready.”
“Alright,” Frost’s arm falls from Mag’s shoulders as Kore moves towards her retrieval unit, stepping onto the body-shaped crevice. Judge watches the warframe get locked into place and slowly rotated into the retrieval unit as it takes off.
Judge sags in relief - he’s pretty sure that she believes him. Or at least, is interested enough in visiting Earth during the night - on what he’s made to sound like a peaceful walk - that she’s dismissed whatever bad tells he was showing.
He is in so much trouble.
(But that’s his Untouchable. Trouble, trouble, trouble.)
-
He has six cans of Kore’s preferred fizz-cola. Darvo’s assured him that it’s quality stuff - not going to eat through a person’s insides or corrode any metals and stuff. Judge’s had a few tastes of the fizz-cola Kore’s been attempting to synthesize back on her orbiter and he can’t really see why she likes it so much.
Kore says that it’s because she hasn’t found the right formula let.
Judge also has the entire grove - and a reasonable section of land surrounding it - protected by the other Tenno for the night.
(See, Kore? It’s a good thing to network and build a persona and stuff.)
He’s also gotten some modest bedding to roll out on the forest floor and some cool old Earth stuff he found in Suda and Simaris’ archives.
Judge swallows, fingers reaching down for Ugly - Handsome, Judge has no idea why the Kavat responds to Ugly and blames Kore entirely on it - who nudges his nose against Judge’s fingertips before skulking off to - most likely - destroy one of Judge’s model ships.
He really really wants this to go well. For him it’d be nothing short of a small miracle if it does, but if it works - if it makes Kore happy -
Judge’s chest begins to bubble and foam with energy as he rocks back and forth on his feet, hands opening and closing.
The thought of Kore smiling under the stars really shouldn’t be making him wound up so much. Judge forces himself to try and calm down.
There’s a significant chance that despite everything he’s planned and thought up she’s going to absolutely hate this.
Because, really, he had thought taking over her ship and forcing her to talk to him was a good idea too. Until he actually boarded it, and walked in on her standing in front of her transference room, red faced and looking more hurt and angry than he’s ever seen her before.
That memory hurts more than almost everything else Judge has to remember.
He doesn’t know if maybe he was born lacking the ability to think ahead and to control himself, or if that’s just a side effect of -
Of -
Of -
The war changed them, Judge reminds himself - layering Kore’s voice over them. We may not have been Orokin once we left the void, but we weren’t beasts until the Orokin took us.
Judge closes his eyes, and pushes down on the feelings, tries to reel them in and put them in place. He tries to line them up and arrange them in sequence, into something that flows and is understandable and logical. Into something that doesn’t spiral out of control and rip at the seams and unravel.
He swallows, throat dry and consciously wills himself not to chew on his lip. Judge’s body sways and he reaches out -
“Hey,” Kore’s voice - very real, very close, and very soft -
Judge yelps, eyes flying open and jumping back - a burst of void energy explodes from his fingertips and Kore raises her arms - her own pale green-gold energy - rising to meet his in a deflective shield.
“I - what are you?” Judge looks around, and is suddenly very grateful that his thoughts don’t exactly stick together in ways that make sense because all of his research and idea screens, through his eyes, create a very clear picture of what he has planned for tonight. But as bad as he is at zooming in on a single outcome, he’s even worse at keeping a straight line of thought.
Kore gives him an annoyed look, “You hailed me and told me to come over ten minutes ago. You said that your ship was open so I came in. Midas looked worried - sorry.” Her expression softens, “I should have used the coms first, I know, but. You looked like you might hurt yourself.”
Judge grimaces and nods, roughly rubbing at the back of his neck.
After he burst in on her, they’d agreed to only board after either being invited or being let in. And after Kore had found him - uh - not present? They’d also agreed to hold off until the other was acknowledged.
Kore steps closer to him, eyes narrowing on his face. She raises her hand and gestures to her own face, “You bit your lip again.”
Judge pokes his tongue at his lip, wincing. The skin isn’t broken, but it is tender.
“I don’t know how you can tell.”
“I can smell it,” Kore replies and he has no idea if she’s serious or not. Kore’s teeth flash in the low lights of his orbiter and the lights of his screens.
Judge feels his skin begin to heat up. He can never tell if it’s Void energy being restless or just him being restless. Either way, he’s glad that his orbiter’s lights are very dim and that his own skin usually hides the beginning signs of his blushes.
“So,” Kore says, “Are you ready to deploy or no? I’ll grab coordinates for the drop from your cephalon. Put something on your lip and maybe clean out some of your garbage.”
“Ready,” Judge croaks, swallowing nervously as Kore sighs at him, shaking her head. She bends down to give Midas a quick belly rub before she stands up again and heads back to her ship. “And it’s not garbage. It’s research.”
-
Kore looks suspicious when they drop and Judge is in his Ash frame. Judge figures that if Kore gets upset he’d stand a better chance of escape if he’s in Ash rather than Mag or Nova.
Judge waits for Kore to look around - she always takes a few seconds to just. To just bask in Earth.
Judge watches her through Ash’s optics. Kore looks nothing like one of Ballas’ Saryns. They were beautiful, yes, powerful, very. But Ballas’ Saryns looked - they looked something like what Judge thinks the Old Earth humans though Angels were meant to look like. White, effervescent, and radiant things. Still and silent.
Kore’s Saryn is dark and stark, unforgiving and harsh colors that speak for her.
She is still, to him at least, beautiful.
Saryn’s black faceplate turns back to him and nods that she’s ready to go.
They make their way through the forest with ease - he can feel Kore getting more and more suspicious as they get closer to Titania’s Grove. The Grineer have had trouble getting close, but normally it isn’t this quiet.
Thankfully, they don’t run into any of the Tenno Judge asked favors from on the way.
As soon as they’re in the clearing, Kore skids to a stop, Saryn’s heels crunch on loose soil as she takes in what’s in front of her.
“Judge,” Kore’s voice is low, rasping in the way that means she’d be bristling if she were a Kavat, hackles raised if she were a Kubrow, “What’s going on?”
“Um,” Judge carefully transports himself through Ash, tensing at the combined feel of the fresh night air and Saryn’s unreadable gaze. “I thought. Uh. I just wanted to - “
“You thought?”
“I wanted you to have a nice night for once,” Judge blurts out. “You never leave your warframe.”
“Judge, we’ve been over this.” He can hear Kore’s voice start to tick towards anger. “You know I don’t - “
“You don’t feel safe,” Judge says. “I know. But we’re in Titania’s Grove. On Earth. Is there a single thing on Earth that you and I can’t handle? That we haven’t been able to handle since we were unawakened dreamers? I called in some favors.”
“Favors?” Kore sounds mildly incredulous.
“I keep telling you it’s a good idea to work a persona,” Judge replies. “People respect me as Hades. They think you’re a myth or my adjunct - “
Kore’s voice swings over from real anger to her normal sort of riled up irritation, “Take it back or I break yours.”
“It’s because you never talk, you’re like a ghost and that isn’t the point here. I asked some Tenno to keep the area clear for a bit,” Judge says, holding his hands out to her. “You’re here. In Titania’s Grove. There’s only one entrance.”
Saryn’s head pointedly looks at the open cave ceiling.
“And the other entrance is pretty obvious,” Judge says. “There is nothing that can hurt you here. There is nothing that will get to you here. Not through all the Tenno that hunt tonight, not through the two entrances that we have eyes on, not through me.”
Saryn stands, an unmoved pillar of poison.
“Judge,” Kore’s voice is strained between anger and hurt and understanding.
“Kore,” Judge says, “Even if you don’t leave your Warframe - that’s alright, too - but can you just - relax for once? Enjoy yourself? We have no mission here, no objectives. We can just look at the stars. Play with grass.”
Judge turns around and reaches into his gear box and holds up two cans of fizz-cola.
He can feel Kore’s eyes locking onto them through Saryn’s optics.
“Have a drink?” Judge suggests.
Kore’s tongue clicks harshly through the coms. Saryn turns and stomps off towards the rising slope at the back of the grove.
“Fool,” She mutters, darkly.
Judge breathes out a slow sigh of relief. She’s mad. But not mad enough to leave. That was, honestly, what he was expecting. Worst case scenario.
Judge follows after her, Ash silently following his movements behind him.
Saryn is standing, arms crossed, hip cocked as she stares up at the opening to the sky.
While her eyes are turned away Judge quickly prepares what he had stored here earlier.
Sleeping rolls and blankets he’d traded a probably dumb amount of credits for at Maroo’s.
Judge sits down on them, rubbing the fabric between his fingers and feeling something like electricity race up his skin. He wants to curl up in it, in all of it. The grass, the moonlight, the fabric, the metal of the fizz-cola cannister, Kore.
“Your neck will get a crick,” Judge says, lying down.
Saryn turns to look at him, fingers tapping angrily - but no spores showing. Not yet.
Ash has settled down, back against the farthest rock wall of the grotto, optics firmly locked onto the entrance they came in through.
Saryn looks between Judge and Ash before Kore lets out an explosive sigh.
Judge holds his breath, feels it hitch in his belly.
Saryn goes and sits a few feet apart from Ash, and Kore slowly steps out of her - the gold-green of her void energy covering her like a light film and illuminating the shadows before Kore materializes. Scowl and all.
Saryn’s hands fold in her lap, and her faceplate slowly turns towards the sky.
Kore stands in front of her warframe, the only light reaching her the glow of the crest on her chest and the faint yellow-green of her inner eye.
Judge slowly rises onto his elbows, reaching down to his side and holding up the fizz-cola to her. It should be the temperature she likes by now.
Kore’s expression twists before she stomps over and snatches it from his hand, moving away to sit at the edge of the small jutting cliff at the zenith of the grove. He hears her pop it open - and the fizz of the drink inside.
“I’m mad at you,” Kore says.
“That’s more than fair,” Judge sits up fully, slowly dragging his finger in circles around the edges of the second can. He had considered bringing the entire case, but not even Kore would drink that much in one sitting. If anything, he can send the rest to her later as an apology.
Kore’s shoulders hunch.
“I don’t like being in the open.”
Judge loves being in the open - loves touching everything, feeling everything. But that’s because the war touched him in an entirely different way than it did Kore.
Judge remains quiet. Keeps his mouth shut for once in his life.
“I was on display a lot,” Kore says slowly. “And before that - do you remember what it was like in the Zariman? Our hovels?”
Judge remembers. They didn’t claim much space to themselves. They lost a lot of it after the first few times their - the adults broke through.
“Everyone was always touching,” Kore says. “You could always feel someone next to you. Hear them breathe. You couldn’t even piss without someone being there. Almost on top of you.”
It helped when it was cold. And it was cold.
“I hated it. I wish I really was as Untouchable as you like to think I am,” Kore spits out. “And afterwards you’d think it’d have been better. All of us isolated in our cells to be studied. But no. It was worse. We didn’t want to be that close in the Zariman. We didn’t want to touch each other. We did our best. The Orokin touched us. Probed us. Examined us. Looked at our teeth and our hands and our ears and our eyes and our everything.”
Judge remembers that, too.
Parts of it.
At the time his Void powers would switch on and off - they had to knock him out for most testing. Drug him.
“They’d pet you, too. Good girl,” Kore sneers the words. “Like pets. Like things.”
Judge does not have that experience. Mostly Judge was left alone. Alone.
(In the dark. Bite his lip to remind himself it was there. Hit his head against whatever the could get for the sound, the feeling of the muzzle digging into his skin. Remind himself that the metal was - in certain parts - cold because his skin couldn’t reach it. Hum through the bit for the buzzing in his teeth. Dark. No helping it. So dark. Blocked his Void lights. Closed his eyes. No helping him. It’s so dark.)
Judge drags in a breath as he drags himself out of the memory.
This is for Kore.
“I don’t like to be touched,” Kore says, “I don’t like it when people look at me.”
Kore turns to look at him, “Ballas said my coloring matched my call sign. Told me I had to shine for him. Told me I had to be beautiful. For her. For Margulis. I didn’t even like Margulis.”
“You’re Kore,” Judge says when she doesn’t say anything more. “You don’t have to be anything.”
Kore’s head jerks down. “I am Kore.”
She turns back towards the sky again, sharply.
“You can go back to your warframe,” Judge says softly, “You can go. I just wanted this for you. I wanted you to have one moment where you could do what you wanted, where you could relax as you. Not through the eyes of something else. Not through another body.”
“I’m not like you, Judge,” Kore sighs, “Transference isn’t like it is with you and yours.”
“But transference still isn’t the same as actually being there,” Judge presses.
No matter how much she and her warframes meld, there will always be a difference.
Kore is quiet as she drinks her fizz-cola, pink hair turned a sort of lavender-blue in the moonlight.
Earth’s wind brushes her hair a little. Judge can see the glints of the metal in her ears from here.
She is Untouchable. Parts of his chest unravel for her, unsteady.
“You’ve always had my back, Kore,” Judge says, carefully. “At least for one night - can you let me have yours?”
Kore shivers, head ducking down.
“Fool, you’re already looking at it.”

Tribest Green Star Elite GSE-5000 Review
A lot of people come to this site because they’re looking to a) buy a new juicer for the first time or b) upgrade their current juicer.
We don’t do negative reviews. No, this doesn’t mean that we think everything is great, far from it. We just don’t have any interest in reviewing any poor juicers. Every single model that you see on these esteemed pages are of the very highest quality and the Tribest Green Star Elite GE 5000 might, just MIGHT, be the very best of the bunch.
This is one of the most sophisticated juicers that you can purchase for your home – PERIOD. It’s exceptional design, immaculately put together parts and powerful motor makes this a great addition to your kitchen.
But does it stand out from the crowd?
So, it depends. If you are looking to really get the best out of your juicing, you will be interested in using leafy greens such as kale, spinach, maybe broccoli etc into your mixes. If that’s the case, then the Tribest Green Star Elite is arguably the best masticating juicer you could purchase.
People love how easily it handles thick and leafy greens. We go into this in more detail below but it is down to a dual slicing technique and technology that Tribest have perfected in this latest model of the machine. We will NOT complain one bit!
Also, you are going to get a higher yield with this juicer than any other juicer on the market. A BOLD STATEMENT INDEED! If you don’t know what yield means in relation to juicing, it is essentially the amount of actual JUICE you get out of each item. IE: we are saying you will get more juice from the spinach/apple/kale/etc that you put in here than any of its competitors on the market right now.
This is because it is a dual-gear horizontal juicer. It was literally designed to excel at masticating and grinding leafy green vegetables in order to extract the most juice and goodness from them. Its two gears work together to provide a three step process of grinding, cutting and shredding. You will notice that this model can handle a particularly difficult vegetable – celery – better than anyone else.
The twin gears work to extract as many nutrients as possible from the fruit and vegetables that you put into it, and you will see that it extracts an awful lot from what you put in. Much more than a centrifugal juicer would ever give you.
Twin Gears? Tell Me More…
So the dual gear system allows for the most complete masticating juicing experience available right now. Tribest say this themselves. They say that whether it is a horizontal or vertical machine, chances are that they are using a single auger, which crushes the veg and fruit and then essentially squeezes as much juice as possible, and then it separates that from the resulting pulp.
They say that this is just one of the chewing functions that true mastication brings. They liken the single auger to the molar teeth that are used to primarily grind the food. The Green Star Elite GSE 500 also slices the food within the process. This gives it a true masticating effect and therefore does a lot more than the single auger machines, or so they would have you believe.
For the most part we agree with them on this point. They use a toothed grinding system to interlock and grind the fruit and vegetables as they pass. This traditionally makes for a higher yield and better quality juice than single auger designs.
The twin gears also add a layer of versatility that you simply won’t be able to get with a single augured machine. For example, it can masticate nuts (perfect for nut butter), grains, and can be used as a mincer. The possibilities you get with the Green Star Elite are a huge advantage.
This is what they’re talking about by offering the market the first true masticating juicer machine. The slicing and grinding combination is indeed a rarity and from our tests it’s obvious that it adds to the experience.
Another thing that the Green Star Elite does is use its adjustable pressure nobs to maximize juice yield. One knob works perfectly for softer fruits and vegetables whereas the other one focuses primarily on harder produce.
The Juicing Process from Start to Finish
Here is what happens inside the Tribest Green Star from when the food goes in to the end…
It enters the Tribest through the chute, and the twin gears immediately get to work. As mentioned above, it mimics the grinding process of the molar teeth in that it grinds.
As the food is being ground by these ‘molars’, the gears work on a slicing motion in the regressed pockets. This clicks into focus particularly when there are carrots or other hard vegetables.
The twin gears have very sharp edges (be careful out there guys!), and these edges effectively slice the food as well as the grinding of the molars. Think of the inner workings of the gears as the molars and these edges as the incisor teeth used to break down and slice the fruit and vegetables.
So, the final produce that comes out has been through all of these processes in a slow and calculated way. The pulp that has become separated goes into its own compartment and is usually exceptionally dry. The remaining juice then is yielded for a long-lasting juice with as many nutrients, enzymes and goodness as possible inside it!
DELICIOUS.
Features
“OK”, you say, suitably impressed. “But what else has it got?”. Well…
Motor
So, it has a workhorse of a motor, and it runs at about 110RPM. This is a nice steady pace for reducing any heat production, which means that the juice will last longer than juice produced from a faster juicer. This is because when heat is produced when juicing, the juice becomes oxidized.
This process is best described by biting into an apple and leaving it there for while. You know that browning that occurs? That’s oxidation. The 110RPM motor masticates at a speed that minimizes this and so more enzymes, nutrients and goodness is kept in.
The overall power that guides this 100-110RPM motor is 200W, which is very powerful, without being the biggest beast in the market. This is why it can mash pretty much anything with ease and also without…………
Noise
Yep, you got it. Noise. It can mash pretty much anything with ease and also without noise. The noise created by the juicer whilst in operation is more than bearable, it is positively quiet. Honestly, feel free to juice early in the AM with this and you will not hear many complaints. It breezes through its workload efficiently and easily. Perhaps it’s the solid body that masks most of the noise inside the juicer itself. We’re not entirely sure how it works, but hey, we won’t complain!
Ease of Use
It is one of the easiest masticating juicers to set-up and assemble, but you will need to take a bit of care when assembling the twin gears. You will be given instructions to line up the dots to properly install. If you do this correctly you will run into no difficulties whatsoever.
It comes with a few nice touches also, which helps to justify why it is a tad more expensive than other models in its category. It comes with a glass pitcher instead of a plastic one, and it has a great drip tray to prevent making a mess on your kitchen counter. NICE!
You’re going to need to chop up the larger items before using them in order to make sure that they fit down the feeding tube. Again, you won’t need to chop up celery as finely as you would have to most other juicers. It can breeze past it without issue.
This model is absolutely perfect for wheatgrass also. If you’re interested in juicing wheatgrass (and you should be) then look now further. This guy will have absolutely no issues with any of that.
Ease of Maintenance
Parts of the Green Star Elite are dishwasher friendly, and will be perfectly fine going through it. That being said, we would always prefer to handwash than to run it through over an hour of hot water. It really isn’t a pain to clean. All of the parts will wash easily in a few minutes, and so if you have the option to do that, that’s probably the best course of action.
Juice Quality
This is a POWERFUL machine, and you will find that it has no problem running the vast majority of fruits and vegetables through it. You will find that it expels an exceptionally dry pulp. This is always a great sign, as it usually means that the maximum amount of anti-oxidants, enzymes, nutrients and vitamins are being successfully extracted.
As with the vast majority of juicers, there will be some pulp in the resulting juice. This is usually a good sign and most people like it, but if you don’t, it is easily removed with a sieve.
As the heat is very small when this juicer masticates, the juice will last for about 72 hours without issue if kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator. This is such a brilliant aspect of this juicer, and indeed most masticating juicers in general. You can juice in bulk and keep the juice, which you simply can’t do with a centrifugal juicer.
You will find that it can deal with the leafy greens with particular skill. Whether it be wheatgrass (you HAVE mentioned wheatgrass before, right?), kale, cabbage, lettuce, brussels sprouts, collard greens or indeed ANY green veg, you will see it glide effortlessly into the Tribest Green Star Elite GSE 5000 and become juice in no time.
Extra Features
This is such a dexterous and malleable appliance, and shouldn’t be thought of as just a juicer. It is more than capable of making pasta (it comes with the relevant attachments, which is very handy), and is also a homogenizer. WOOP! This means that you can make sauces of all kinds, as well as food for babies, butters from nuts, desserts etc. The possibilities are endless!
PRO TIP: If you soak almonds or soy overnight/for a number of hours, it can make milk! Amazing.
De-Clogging Capabilities
The Green Star GSE 5000 comes with the ability to control the amount of pressure that is exerted and that builds up inside the machine.
This is FANTASTIC for making sure that that foods don’t get clogged up in the machine due to pressures building up and the gears not extracting enough pulp. Hurrah!
Honestly, this is a nice touch that the vast majority of juicers don’t have. It kind of sets it apart.
Warranty
This has an incredible TWELVE YEAR warranty. Now, if that doesn’t say that the company is confident in its product, then nothing will!  This is such a lengthy warranty that you can buy with ease knowing that if something goes wrong in the next TWELVE YEARS (we have to keep capitalizing it as it really is ridiculously long) then you are covered.
Conclusion
The Tribest Green Star Elite Review that you have just read should give you an indication on just what a special machine this is. It can handle absolutely any juicing request that you will ask of it, and a LOT more, as evidenced by the Extra Features section.
Yes, it is expensive, and if you are on a tight budget, I would recommend going for the Omega J8004 as it is more affordable and still a wonderful juicer. However, if you think that you want to invest in one of the best private juicers on earth for your family’s (and your own) health, then this really is the perfect investment.
The yield from this machine is up to 50% more efficient than other competitors, and so you will certainly save on produce right from the very beginning.
If there is one thing that people give out about on the amazon reviews it is that it can take a bit of time to learn. Yes, a learning curve on your juicer may initially put you off, but when you think about it, this is a complex machine and should be treated as such, particularly after all you are paying for it!
