Anyways, yeah! I do like Whace! Not only because the ship name is fun and silly, but also because I think the way Whit and Ace bounce off each other is a very entertaining concept. On with the headcanons!

-It took the two of them forever to get together, since Whit, what with his ever-present trouble with love, was too scared to try and confess his feelings. And Ace was also too scared, since he’s scared of everything but especially showing vulnerability like that. Eventually, Whit managed to tell Ace about his feelings, but Ace wasn’t sure if he was joking or not and so Whit had to try and clarify. Overall it was awkward but worth it when they finally got together.

-Whit loves PDA but Ace is very easily embarrassed by it. So they meet in the middle by doing secret PDA, like holding hands under the table where no one can see (Arei has made it her mission to catch them whenever they do stuff like that and tease them for it)(Ace gets mad and Whit gets disappointed because Ace will immediately stop doing whatever affectionate thing he was doing).

-Whit really likes doing Ace’s nails. Ace, comforted by the fact that he wears gloves most of the time so no one will actually see his nails, lets Whit do whatever crazy designs he wants. He’d never admit it but he really likes them.

-Similarly, Whit likes to try and do makeup on Ace. Ace can do eyeliner, so he’ll do that on Whit, but Whit likes to go all out. He’s always sad when Ace washes it off.

-They help each other with dying their hair. Whit’s is slightly more complicated, since he dyes his hair blonde and pink, but Ace tries his best. Whit has to help teach him how to properly just dye the edges the first time.

-Whit likes playing with Ace’s hair in general. Ace is a little cagey when it comes to letting people touch his hair but he doesn’t mind as much when it’s Whit.

-Whit finds much entertainment in teasing Ace just to see him all flustered. Whether that be with compliments, physical affection, or the occasional dirty joke (He likes to use atrociously bad pick-up lines sometimes, too, just to see Ace’s reaction).

-I’m not one to talk about nsfw too much…But Whit tops. ;)

-Hehe time for a very self-indulgent one. Whit found out Ace likes to read romance novels and would not let it go. Now they have a book club with just the two of them as members.

-Ace tends to get embarrassed when expressing his feelings for Whit through words, so sometimes he’ll buy him gifts instead, just small little things to show he cares. Whit keeps them all in a box to cherish forever.

-Whit has decided that Ace is his new favorite bed. He likes to sleep on Ace’s lap and chest, which confuses Ace, but he doesn’t really mind. Even on the off chance he does, he usually doesn’t have the heart to make Whit get off of him.

-Whit likes to tease Ace about how he’s one inch taller, calling Ace cute and petite and generally being a menace by pretending they have this huge height difference.

-Ace, being quite strong thanks to working out a lot, can carry Whit around. He usually does this when he’s fed up with Whit teasing him and wants to turn the tables on him. Sometimes it works, other times Whit just giggles and calls himself a captured princess.

-Whit loves to text 🩷 emojis at Ace all the time. An excessive amount, honestly. Ace will sometimes text him back <3.

-Ace will get really mad when someone is mean to Whit, unsurprisingly, but also unsurprisingly doesn’t do too much besides scold the person and swear at them. If someone’s mean to Ace, Whit won’t immediately do anything. But he‘ll get really quiet, making a 🙂 face, and on the inside you can tell he’s plotting their death.

-At every opportunity, Whit will take whatever pen/marker is lying around during class and doodle a heart on Ace’s arm. He thinks it’s cute. Ace glares at him whenever he does it, but puts in a noticeable amount of effort not to wash it off when he takes a shower.

Hmm, I think that’s all for now. Maybe I’ll add more if I think of any I forgot or if I think of any new ones. This list turned into a lot more than a few headcanons but I regret nothing.

🦋what are you most insecure about when you post a fic?

Not really insecure about anything these days? I've posted a truly absurd amount of fic and my previous fandoms include Harry Potter (TERF author can go rot) and MCU (... character roundabouts abound and the tonky stans refuse to admit it) so ... fandoms don't scare me much, I'm liberal with the block and delete buttons and I'm pretty confident in my own writing ability and general standing as a fanfic author.

I think the only thing I tend to worry about is my tags? I always either miss something, or tag something in a slightly weird way there's probably something better for. If you ever notice a fic of mine that could do with either tag pruning or an additional tag - please do let me know. I once managed to forget to add Whump to a fics tags and only remembered when a commenter mentioned it, I promise, I will not be mad.

🕯️how do you think engaging with each other through tumblr, twitter, comments, kudos, creates healthy fandom experiences? How do you deal with that if you’re not a social person/experience social anxiety?

See, I am Bad At People. I had very few friends going up and whether or not I have any neurodivergency (unknown, not unlikely, Dad almost definitely is, but I also have trauma from bullying and a shitty ex to complicate matters) I don't always socialise so good. I tend to observe social interactions and write them well, but outside of my close friends I get very antsy about interacting with new people.

This is why, generally, I stay in my own lane on tumblr; I'll post my metas and analysis here or in response to asks and only occasionally add them to other posts - and then posts by either people I know or, for whatever reason, feel comfortable enough to add to. I used to be a lot more fighty but frankly that intersects with my social shit badly and I am trying to keep to things which spark joy, even if people being wrong on the internet regularly makes me want to fight them.

Anyway. Comments are also easy because like - an awful lot of people don't respond to your comments? And it's a massive load off my anxious back to know I can just leave a comment and probably won't get any response. And then, if there is a response, it's often delightful because I wasn't expecting it and it's to a comment I probably put way too much thought into which means there's often something fun to discuss. Likewise - I love when people comment on my work with clearly thought out considerations and I know, from my own experiences, that many don't expect a reply and it'll be a nice surprise for them.

And, like I said - I'm trying to keep to things which spark joy. Spreading that joy in fandom is one such. World sucks enough - lets not add to it.

🤡 What’s a line, scene, or exchange you’ve written that made you laugh?

Hmm, I think my funniest fic on the whole is "The Invitation: an Epilogue," just by nature of being Diana Wynne Jones-y. That's if you don't count the Pipeweed Mafia Epic, which is unpublished but pure crack.

The single line I think I've always been most inordinately pleased with is from "The Fall of (Spoilers Redacted)"-- "My prior hist’ry with this one’s (forgive me) discommodius," which is a terrible pun perfectly executed. See, it's a line in a ballad being freestyled by the god Apollo, who in Rick Riordan's characterization absolutely would not pass up such a pun and also would absolutely stick that "forgive me" in first, and it fits the dang meter AND manages to very nearly rhyme with the character name the NEXT line ends with. The thing that tickled me most about writing it, though, was I'd been working on a totally different stanza and needed to find another word for "awkward," and when I saw THAT WORD in the thesaurus I immediately jumped ahead to THIS stanza just so I could write this line. It is absolutely the best word possible for this point in the story. But it's probably only funny if you know what he's referring to.

EDITING TO ADD: There have been a lot of parts of my stories that made me laugh in progress, but I'm coming back because I just reread this and it's almost 3 years later and I still relish this bit of dialogue (or monologue) from "We Will (Not) Always Have Each Other": "Marvelous, you all survived! Except for that unfortunate fellow, but he already was doing poorly, as I recall. But good news: I remembered how to cook brunch! I even remembered the word ‘brunch’! Would anyone care to join me in the partaking of brunch?” just because I can hear the way Oliver relishes saying the word "brunch" every time he says it.

I'm also suddenly remembering a scene in the Wash/Zoe fic I have mentioned writing but not finishing, where the soon-to-be-couple are bickering while Mal is bleeding in the background and he keeps trying to get them to remember he's there and injured, and it amuses me just thinking about it, so SOMEDAY I'll figure out how to finish that dang thing and I'll share it just so you can enjoy that scene, too.

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

Honestly, I never trust that I'll HAVE readers enough to do anything FOR them, even mischievously. I really write everything for myself and HOPE someone appreciates it. I think the closest I've gotten is that there's a lot of painfully ironic foreshadowing in "Tesseract," at least for everyone who knows what happens in A Wrinkle In Time, but the meanest thing about that fic is actually that I haven't updated it in almost a year but keep teasing the fact that HONEST I SWEAR the next chapters ARE in progress! (There's even more foreshadowing in these subsequent chapters, which The Readers WILL get to read someday I swear). (BTW Dan, that seems like a fic you would especially appreciate. I promise more chapters eventually).

Yes, I would think almost everyone does (except, like, random library patrons), but very few actually read it. Maybe they think they don't know the source material enough? But that's why I made this handy guide to how much source material you actually need to read it?

So. I went to DragonCon in Atlanta over the weekend and spent entirely too much money. (Like seriously, I just got up the courage to look at my bank account before lunch today.)

BUT IT'S ALL WORTH IT!

I met Henry Ian Cusick which, ladies, looks like he just stepped off the screen and was Marcus Kane personified omggg I was so thrown. He looks amazing! He also said that he's filmed some scenes for S6 so woot woot for that! He also let slip that Erica Cerra may be in some S6 scenes.

Erica Cerra was really nice and I didn't get to talk to her long but I made sure to tell her that she was awesome as Beca and ALIE and it was something fun to add to the show. (I know she's not in S1 but I had her sign my bluray anyway.)

Jessica Harman was only there Sunday and Monday so I didn't get much time with her either. I told her I was glad she wasn't eaten by cannibals in the bunker and she laughed and said people may have rioted. She also said that Niylah will have some more to do in S6 so fingers crossed!! (I know she's not in S1 but I had her sign my bluray anyway.)

Chelsey Reist. She was one of the ones I was most looking forward to meeting when I decided to go to this con months ago. And then Harper's death happened. My guys, I did not think I was going to be able to make it through a conversation with her but she was so nice and so badass that we were laughing and smiling the whole interaction. I told her Harper was my favorite delinquent and she just goes "Why!?" like girl, you stole my heart from the word go.

RICKY WHITTLE. RICKY FUCKING WHITTLE! Nothing will prepare you for meeting this man in person. He gave my friend and I a hug and told us we looked hot in our Batman cosplay so I pretty much blacked out after that. We all agreed that none of this shit would have happened if Lincoln were still around, he'd kick everyone's asses for this nonsense. We also all agreed that we're happy he's happy on his new show. AND THEN WE ALL GOT ANOTHER HUG GOODBYE!

Immediately after dying from this interaction, I thought it would be a good time to meet Dichen Lachman. I was wrong, so very wrong. I could not look at her for too long she was a literal angel and it was like looking into the sun. I was in awe of her. I had her sign my S1 AND I bought a photo of her as Sierra from Dollhouse and had her sign that and proceeded to gush to her about how I loved her in both roles and I desperately want to see her be a lead in something. "Write a letter to... well I don't know who. But write a letter to them!" Ok Dichen, I will.

The biggest surprise of the weekend for me came from The Expanse cast. I'm not even done with S2 yet but we went to one of their panels to kill time (and cause we were interested). As soon as that panel was over we booked it to their autograph table. There was no way we were leaving this con without getting something from them or at least saying hi. In the end, my friends and I each got all four of their autographs and then selfies with our favs. They are all so sweet and so amazing and love the work they do on this show. If you ever get the chance to meet them, do it! Especially Shohreh Aghdashloo! She is a hoot and can quote all her lines at the drop of a hat! She is so passionate about the show and her character.

I'm going to use this to give a shout out to my friends @spindlepricker @sushigirlali and @casleyislove and her husband. Without them, I wouldn't get to do the awesome stuff that I love doing and have amazing stories I'll remember forever. 💛

Unmastered Interview Part 1

Emma: Hello and welcome to Unmastered. I'm Emma.

Gohar: And I'm Gohar.

Emma: And we are uncut and on the record with your favorite bands. So today, we're sitting down with someone who I'm really excited to talk to. A lot of my friends and people who have been on the show said great things about her. So, we're just gonna go ahead and jump into it. Can you tell us what's your name? We do a couple of ice breakers like we always do.

Zealyn: Okay.

Emma: So what's your name? Where you're from? Any strange phobias you have? And if you were any color crayon, what would it be and why?

Zealyn: Okay, you might need to remind me with the questions.

Emma: That's okay.

Zealyn: Thanks for having me! *all of them laughs* I'm Zealyn, what was the second question?

Emma: Where you're from?

Zealyn: Okay, I'm Zealyn, I'm originally from Boston and, you know, moved out to LA five years ago for music.

Emma: As we all do.

Zealyn: Do you say if I was a favorite color crayon?

Emma: Almost umm.. any phobias and if you were any color

crayon what would you be and why?

Zealyn: Okay. Well, phobias... gosh, I- guys this is so gross but I'm terrified of throwing up when people throwing up like it really freaks me out if I'm around it, I need to leave the room like right away. That's like way too- that's really gross.

Emma: Is it like sympathy like, no that we're talking about vomit? Is it like sympathy vomit?

Zealyn: It's like- No. It's like terrified like I hate it. If anyone even just mentions like, "I'm not feeling good." I'm like, "I'm leaving the room." I'm so scared of it umm... that's a huge phobia of mine. Umm... and if I was a color crayon I... right now, I think I'd be yellow because I'm incorporating a lot of color and lights into-

Gohar: Your brand?

Zealyn: My brand. Yeah, even though I'm wearing all black right now.

Emma: That's okay. People can't see it, I don't know.

Zealyn: But yeah.

Gohar: You're preparing for the rain.

Zealyn: Yeah, yeah, that's right. The next few nights. Yep.

Emma: Yeah, I know, your colors on Instagram like a big fan of all these.

Gohar: It's super vibrant.

Zealyn: Thanks.

Emma: It's really vibrant and like a lot of like the color play is super fun to like look at.

Zealyn: Thank you!

Emma: I was like going, "Oh my gosh, I just feel so like light and airy looking at this" and I'm like "Wow, I want this to be my closet".

Zealyn: That's good because if you looked at my Instagram two years ago, it was all black. Like black and gray and like just really moody and with this new wave of music, I

just wanted to add color and light and yeah, so.

Emma: There you go. I love it. I can't wait to see how it keeps up, I'm like a big like, I love photography. I love seeing how people kind of take a brand idea and like market themselves and just like be themselves through like visual art as well as like you know the music you create that's seeing how people yeah corporate that is always really fun so I'm like such a big fan of like oh like go through someone's Instagram and I'm like, "Ooh! Colors here. I see what you're doing, it's mysterious, I like it like..." I love that stuff.

Zealyn: Same. All artists that I love and I'm inspired by, I go to their Instagram, check out their branding, their photos, and stuff. Unfortunately, it makes a big difference, social media nowadays you know, and branding and everything. But it also is great so...

Emma: It's just another form of expression like if we wanna stop calling it branding, we can always call it expression. Creative expression.

Zealyn: Yeah. That's better.

Emma: It's like a way of expressing how you're feeling in whatever moment of your life that you're in so it's fun to see what people do. We really love it. So, you two met.

Gohar: Yeah. That's right.

Emma: Holiday party, give me the details cause I don't know.

Zealyn: Yeah.

Gohar: Okay I- I'll start.

Zealyn: Go ahead.

Gohar: Umm... I went to the We Found New Music, Grant Owens presents Holiday Party.

Zealyn: Mhm.

Gohar: Uhh... Back in 2018. Wow, it feels like such a long time ago.

Emma: All I'm saying-

Zealyn: It feels like a month in a half ago.

Emma: All I'm saying this has been a long January.

Zealyn: Yes.

Gohar: It has been. I think, every year we say January last an eternity and then the rest of the year zooms by.

Zealyn: Yeah.

Emma: This is the first year I've like fully felt that cause I'm like, "oh my gosh." like I mean, by the time this comes out, it will be like the first week of February.

Zealyn: Yeah. *laughs*

Emma: But like still like, it's been a long January.

Gohar: So I was there, there were maybe one of two people before you performed and then you went up and then I was there with my team and we were just like *gasps*

Zealyn: Aww.

Gohar: You can't see my expression but it was, you know that emoji that's like-

Zealyn: Yep.

Gohar: Me and Art went up to you and we introduced ourselves and you were just phenomenal. And I remember you telling me cause I introduced myself and then Arpita introduced herself and you're like, "Whoa your names are so unique."

Zealyn: They are. They really are. I've never heard them before.

Gohar: And yeah. That was a fun experience and I knew I wanted to get you on the show like then and there.

Zealyn: Thank you for that because you guys are doing something really cool here. I saw that you did Disco Shrine and LeyeT and just you're getting really cool artists on the show.

Emma: Disco Shrine does say hello by the way. I talked to her earlier.

Zealyn: Aww. Hi!

Emma: Shout out to Disco Shrine!

Zealyn: No, I truly loved what you guys are doing. And talk about branding, I love your guys' branding and the three photos you posted each artist.

Emma: Aww man.

Gohar: Emma, Absolutely fantastic but bad aesthetic.

Emma: I'm trying. We'll get there.

Zealyn: I'm really glad we met at that show. I just remember when you guys came up to me, it was so- just like welcoming and you guys had such like warm hearts like you know what I mean?

Gohar: Aww. I'm so glad.

Emma: Yeah, it's what we're trying to be.

Gohar: If I could put a smile on anyone's face, that's a win for me. Yeah.

Emma: I think my biggest thing is when I go to shows like- I kind of like get a feel for like if the artist is someone

who like wants to talk or doesn't want to talk.

Zealyn: Oh yeah.

Emma: 'Cause sometimes you can just tell like they're just not down for it but like... I can at least make someone like... feel like not pressured because I know sometimes like observing people like go up to artists and act a certain away I'm always just like, "What's up?" Just kind of get that like just warm- because we're all people. I try to get down with that like people level.

Gohar: You know what you're right we are people.

Emma: Shut up

*All of them laugh*

Zealyn: No, I know what you mean though. Because, especially in LA, it's super hit or miss.

Emma: Exactly.

Zealyn: Lots of people have egos, lots of people try to be too cool or you know, yeah.

Gohar: Dude, what the heck? I just like umm... not too long ago, I saw a prompt that said, "You can be successful and nice" and I'm like, "That's it! That's the key!"

Zealyn: Yeah.

Gohar: You could be successful and nice.

Emma: You just have a billboard on one of those in every block in LA just like, "You can be successful and nice!"

Zealyn: They should. A lot of people need to be constantly reminded of it for sure. Umm... But yeah. I feel super lucky whenever I'm at a show and all the other people playing are so nice like cause that doesn't happen often. Usually, there's at least one person with an ego or whatever but umm... yeah, it's really cool when you meet the people in LA that are genuine and just friendly.

Emma: I feel like there's a lot there once you start like-

Zealyn: Yeah.

Emma: Cause you know like there's like the whole six degrees of separation and like you know everyone kind of has their own circle?

Zealyn: Uh-huh.

Emma: Once you find that kind of like one person who has that, you get introduced to their circle and their people and then you realize like a lot of these really like kind and very wonderful people all kind of like hang out together and flock-

Zealyn: Yeah. So true.

Emma: You know like they're in their own flock of people and that's really cool because once you meet one, it kind of like Domino effects. You start meeting-

Gohar: Exactly.

Emma: A ton of people and I think that's really great because we met LeyeT, Disco Shrine, now you. So it's just like this fun Domino fantasy where it leads.

Zealyn: Yeah. Absolutely. I agree.

Gohar: That's cool. We're super glad- I'm super glad you guys met and I'm super glad to hear that.

Zealyn: Yeah! Me too. Thanks.

Emma: Let's go ahead and kind of get a little bit of background about yourself.

Zealyn: Okay.

Emma: How was music a part of your childhood and like how was it incorporated in you growing up and all of that?

Zealyn: Uh so I, fortunately, was having(?) a super musical family. My dad sings and plays piano, that's where I started playing the piano from him. My mom sings beautifully and plays guitar, I learned everything about singing from her. And then my brother picks up anything like he plays piano, guitar, bass. He's mainly a drummer, he also sings so well like he plays everything. He's so talented.

Gohar: So like your family has more talent than I have in my parents?

*All laugh*

Zealyn: My family together- they're so awesome umm... but yeah. We- I'd you know grow up in Boston and just did music there and all- a lot of my friends did music so I just kind of grew up around it and always was inspired by you know what other people were doing and umm... When I was 19 and I moved out here for music and... which is so young when I think about it. Like, it's kind of terrifying.

Emma: Did you move out here with your family or yourself?

Zealyn: No, it was me and my best friend.

Emma: Wow.

Zealyn: And when she was younger, she was 18.

Emma: Wow, good for you guys.

Zealyn: Our parents must have been like, "What are you doing?" but yeah, I'm so glad I did though, it was you know. It takes a while to love LA and I'm glad I did at a younger age and then.

Gohar: Oh good.

Zealyn: Yeah

Gohar: I have a follow-up question.

Zealyn: Yes.

Gohar: You said you grew up in Boston. What's the music community like there versus here in LA?

Zealyn: Umm... well I'm not super experienced because I did move out here when I was 19.

Gohar: Mm-hmm.

Zealyn: So a lot of the... you know. I just did a lot of like music theater in high school and stuff so I didn't really get to see a lot of the Boston scene but my brother is in the band called Valley Heart and umm...

Gohar: Hold on. I'm writing this down.

Emma: Take note everyone.

Zealyn: Yeah just exactly how it- you know sounds, Valley Heart. So I kind of see what the Boston scene is like through them and it's very different than LA. LA is super pop, electronic, R&B like very-

Emma: Oh okay.

Zealyn: And Boston, there's not as much.

Gohar: I feel like there would be a lot more rock and roll.

Zealyn: Yeah. A lot of rock and roll and lot of I don't know if it's rapper/R&B but like yeah, it's a lot of really underground stuff. Where LA is very- you know all the big people come out of it, you know.

Gohar: Which is kind of strange to me because there's a lot of places in LA like the Viper Room whiskey a go-go, places like that are catered more toward rock and roll because those clubs were extremely popular 60, 70s, 80s when rock and roll started you know becoming a thing and now, they host a whole bunch of rock stuff it's- if you go in for example to the whiskey go-go, it's like I-I-I think rock and roll throughout here because-

Zealyn: Oh yeah.

Gohar: And every once in awhile, they have pop sets, some jazz sets, and whatnot because you know you have to have variety but I feel like it doesn't fit the environment.

Zealyn: I mean they're definitely- yeah like you're right, it was definitely still like a rock scene here, it's just different. Yeah, I don't know.

Emma: Well, what you said kind of like stuck out to me was the comparison I hear there's a lot more like electronic and like synth-like in pop and like I never actually consider that thought about that cause now that I'm thinking about it like, "Wait like so much of these artists like they are here in their based here," like I've never even considered to think that you know that the other side of the country wouldn't like connect with that as much. But now I'm like, "You're right oh my gosh."

Zealyn: So to put it into perspective, planning a show out here, I can very quickly come up with oh at least eight people that I can picture playing on a bill with like all

these people are similar to me similar sounds let's play a show together, awesome. But in Boston, it's really

hard to find like an electronic pop artist out there and I know that they exist, they're just harder to find. So the Boston music scene is definitely still great and awesome and that there's a lot of music but it's harder to find the electronic pop artists and maybe I'm way off cuz I don't live there anymore but that's what it seems like being over here.
