My absolute most favorite nimona scene is ambrosius' little outburst in his head in the ufo plane thingy when the director asks him what's wrong
Because here's this dude, descendant of Gloreth, protector of the kingdom who has been basically brainwashed to do whatever it takes to protect his kingdom from any sort of "threat". We see it in the arm chopping scene, we see it when bal is standing in front of him, pleading him to trust him and ambrosius points his sword at bal and then they have that fight-
And yet, in the middle of this whole kingdom wide crisis this little baby is worried about what? About the fact that Bal has a new best friend and that aRM CHOPPING IS NOT A LOVE LANGUAGE.
I love his priorities
I love how completely crazy he's going over this in his head
I love the way the tempo of the scene slowly increases till ambrosius is screaming and then abruptly cuts back to reality
And I love love love how much Ambrosius loves Ballister.
Also special mention to the scene where right after ambrosius points his sword at bal he goes "you wanna know what she is?" And he and nimona are just so in sync it's beautiful that scene
Also special mention no. 2 to the scene where bal is standing over ambrosius with his sword and ambrosius goes "go ahead kill me too" and bal just goes "if you really think I'd do that then you don't really know me at all" because my hEART.

There are many reasons I appreciate the Red Rising series. At first, I enjoyed it because it cured my boredom. Then, I was thankful for it because when some people got too loud, I could elect to read a fantastic book instead of throwing rocks.
And then there's everything else, really. There's wayyyy too much to spell out coherently. Jumping between one reason, and then having some god give me a divine boon in the form of yet ANOTHER reason why RR is the most underrated gem I've ever come across.
But right now, after finishing Lightbringer (literally today on the way home from a lecture) the thing I appreciate most about RR is its narrative on strength? And how absolutely soul touching it is?
Like. Pre-Book 1 and during book 1 is just survival mode. You've gone semi-emotionally numb with the strain of just. Getting Through The Bad Times. Darrow has somehow survived the mines, and it took so much out of him that I don't think even he really realised. And then Eo. And then the revelation. So now he lives and pushes through with rage - like a helldiver. It's all he has, along with a goal, so it's gotta be enough. There's no other way.
And then Books 2-3 are, through insurmountable setbacks, even through outgrowing your original goal, which fueled his spite entirely, he rises. He can no longer just be angry, even if its still in grasp, even if it's his oldest friend. He has other things he's discovered - his own abilities, a support network. The mantra 'Stay Strong or Die' continues. And even if it is aided by things other than single-mindedness, it is upheld. Darrow is the strongest he's ever been end of Book 3. He chose option 1. He can take on the world, and then another, and then another, and then all of them at once. It was hard but he stayed strong, so he will be strong.
And then the second part of the series. Um. Well. It does not go well for him exactly. You see, he has been in the mindset of survival for so long- as long as he can remember, really. He believes its natural for him. Its not, its learned, but it hasn't really had a chance to distinguish himself. He severely underestimates exactly how much prolonged service of his mantra takes from him - but at this point, can he even create another one? It's all that's gotten him to this point (not necessarily true), it's his oldest crutch. When in stressful situations, we do not rise to the occasion nor to our ideals, but rather we fall upon our base training. And anger is at his core.
You can see things slowly loosen themselves around him - the Vox, Mercury (Jesus, everything that happened with Mercury). Stay Strong or Die is unravelling at the seams. What do you do when your basic, core tennate, the thing which kept you from falling, the pillar on which you balance to spin various dishes, wobbles?
Darrow comes crashing down, and for once, anger isn't what leaps forward to catch him. In fact, nothing catches him. Instead, he lays, and is blanketed by tiredness. He stays there awhile.
He's not Strong.
He's not strong.
Hesnotstronghesnotstronghesnotstronghesnot
There are two options. If he's not the first, the second one follows, no?
No.
By pure fucking luck, happenstance, or whatever benevolent God saw the absolute shitstorm that was going on with Darrow, clutched their pearls in shock, and with trepidation waved whatever blessing they could Darrow's way, Darrow does not die when he is not strong.
Because that blessing, what used to come second to him whenever his rage bullied itself into the forefront, stays when his rage leaves just as fast as it came.
Eo. Sevro. Virginia. Electra. Orion. Cassius. Ragnar. Alexandar.
Pax.
His strength leaves him, but it is replaced with something else.
Death begets death begets death.
Love begets love begets love.
Begets strength.

Nausicaä and Princess Mononoke are the same movie.
Told from slightly different perspectives, and with a different coat of paint.
Other than that, same story, same characters, same moral, same movie.
(And the coat of paint on one is giant airships, big bugs, toxic jungles, and decrepit civilizations; and the other one is Japan.)

so this man’s just straight up lying then. okay.
fyi none of the philippine players are naturalized. as per our citizenship laws, they needed to be of filipino descent (i.e. even if they were born here, they wouldn’t get citizenship if their parents were foreigners)
it’s so incredibly frustrating for me that so many people, both in and out of the country, are discounting the national team’s achievements just because they mostly weren’t born and raised in this country, even if they had filipino parents. like, they all want homegrown players from us so bad, but they never stop and think about whether we even have the infrastructure for it. hell, we literally just started our women’s league the past year. tbh even the men’s league is shit with hardly any spectators. of course our players would be trained abroad, because there’s no way to get adequate support here.
and by the way. when filipinos emigrate abroad, they face all sorts of trouble. racism, cultural dissonance, natives saying they don’t belong there. but now that these immigrants’ children have decided to embrace their filipino ancestry and represent the country, people say they’re too Other, too Foreign to still be filipino. what do you want from us?
when these filipinos are in other countries trying to make lives for ourselves, they’re judged for being non-native to those places. and yet the moment they taste success, they’re suddenly not filipino enough. it’s absolutely mental.
so yeah fuck you to the vietnam team’s coach and everyone else who feels like commenting about the philippine team’s “native-ness” i think you’re all psycho

I love the coaches you guys have been asking for. I’ve been playing the game since the first, but as a kid I didn’t play songs I didn’t know, so I’m discovering a lot of them for the first time! It’s very fun!

I'm sorry, but you immediately lose the right to speak out against shipping in this fandom if you're saying you hope certain ccs die or get hurt. And maybe you should examine why you're more okay with wishing violence on ccs, but you draw the line at shipping content.

Is your OC self-destructive? In what ways?
Nailah was very much a self-destructive person at the start of her story.
She held impossible standards for herself, only to spiral when she inevitably didn't reach them. She pushed people away and withdraws from others at the first sign of displeasure. She avoided taking care of herself should she feel she hadn't earned it, including refusing to eat or sleep or rest. She twisted her own resilience to mean she should be hurt in others stead, and acted recklessly to see this happen.
It took several interventions from her friends and intense self reflection for her to start making steps towards breaking these habits.
She still holds herself to high standards, but they're much more achievable now and failure is treated with an amount of grace. She still struggles with pushing people away and not taking care of herself in stressful situations, but having people around her that can pull her out of her head and talk with her have helped tremendously.
Unfortunately she's still quite reckless with her own safety even after all this time, which has rightfully earned her many lectures from the people around her.
