After yesterday’s whole Eidolon Situation (which was: bad news: the game crashed! Good news: i would’ve solo captured my first eidolon if it didn’t) i decided to get cocky
Today’s Sortie was exterminate/exterminate/assassination, and from Sanctuary Onslaught I know that my fun-limit lies at around lvl60 enemies, and the first stage of a Sortie is lvl50-60, which means it’s an easy access way to see if i can indeed hold my own in a mission of that level without having to be 20 minutes deep into Sanctuary Onslaught. No intentions of carrying on bc holy fuck is lvl65-80 a lot, not to mention a lvl100 bossfight, but the first mission is a good testing ground
Well
So that didn’t happen as expected, bc the squad ended up sticking together, and i didn’t get flattened in the first stage anyway, so-
Long story short I completed my first Sortie, which i know is a ridiculously easy daily for Adept Players but feels like a huge step for me. Definitely won’t make it a daily occurance, i literally had the easiest mission type for the first two stages today, but it’s wild that I did it
I got a Twin Gremlins riven out of it which is a different story bc i have no clue just how bad that maybe is, but hey! First Sortie! Riven! Hell yeah

@cardinalgoldenbrow ...is this a bad time to admit that I don't think that Kullervo is real? I have a larger theory on that, but I straight up do not believe he's real and I don't use anything from his story on a literal level to support any of my interpretations.
(Very short version: Kullervo is a native of Duviri. This means that he does not exist in the real Origin System, but is a reflection/growth created by someone that fell into Duviri; just like Thrax is for the Drifter. You'll never guess who I think his source material is!)
Ughh...I really hate the--
Alright, let's agree on terminology right now to help keep all this straight. I'm going to call unpiloted sentient warframes (ie Dagath) preframes. I had been using 'protoframe', but obviously 99 is doing something specific with that so I need a new term.
I don't like the preframes, story wise. I think they exist in an awkward state of canon where their real purpose is to justify frames having personality for both visual reasons (Khora and Atlas animations illustrate very different personalities) and to preserve the twist of the Second Dream.
Practically, Warframe as a story is less interested by the implications of frames representing a real independent human personality; you are either wearing them like a skin suit or taking control of them and using them to kill just like the Orokin did. In the second case, nothing has really changed for the 'life' of a frame. They just got new bosses and the daily grind stayed the same.
"But you took away their pain! Umbra!"
The Sacrifice makes the point over and over again that Umbra's case is unusual and unique. You have not communed with any of your other frames like this; that's why the Operator is surprised and confused in the first place.
I'm actually not even sure that Dante is an autonomous preframe. Because--
You don't get to be any kind of frame without the whole Infestation thing.
Following that, this means that preframes weren't always consciously rebelling, but losing themselves to the Infestation. You get Infested, you lose brain function. That's always been consistent about the Infestation, even the 'tame' Helminth variant, even in the Entrati family.
This also makes most sense to me because if there had been some way to get a functional, obedient preframe if you just found someone obedient enough to mutate, the Orokin would have just kept doing that and had no need for the Tenno. As much as Ballas isn't the most reliable narrator, I think he's being honest and accurate when he talks about how preframes simply could not be controlled. I don't think it's just a matter of personal respect.
I do agree that preframe Insurrections make most sense for what Loid is talking about, but even that doesn't quite add up, because Loid says that he found out that Dante died while he slept. Dante would never have still been active up until Loid went into stasis if he didn't have a Tenno pilot; he says himself in the next line that people harboring (what we're assuming but Loid hasn't actually stated are) preframes were not tolerated.
Dante seems to have been publicly active up until Loid's stasis. Loid is surprised to hear of both Dante and Drusus's deaths. These facts don't fit Dante being a preframe and suggest that he had a Tenno pilot instead.
Neither Drusus nor Loid ever directly states that Dante was an autonomous preframe. Loid says that Drusus purposely blurs the line between Tenno and frame identity because of his fondness for Dante. This doesn't necessarily mean that Dante was autonomous, but that Drusus wanted to believe that he was.
We see in the text that Drusus is extremely emotionally motivated. Personally I'd fully believe Drusus avoiding an inconvenient truth, particularly since the Tenno were supposed to be a complete secret. He could very well have met Dante, found out about the Tenno later, and lied to himself.

It’s over for everyone when I can figure out how to simplify Warframes in my style… such detailed little guys I just wanna be able to draw the tennos main frames cause I don’t talk about them much lol
Astrophel: Empress/Prime!Titania (regal, royal, Astrophel’s main, mask he presents to others, a counterpart to Orion’s Oberon) Celestis!Wisp (healing, protective, yet powerful, space sun priestess vibes), Empyrean!Nezha (star themed, hope related— protector of children mimicking Astrophel’s dedication to his fellow Tenno—- also a counterpart to Namid’s Wukong)
Rome: Voruna, Dagath, Khora. All of them have animal companions/fight through the aid of animals. interesting to note Rome has the least experience with Warframes having lived on the plains, outside of the Lotus’ detection. Has a unique bond with them, able to communicate with all frames regardless of them being Umbral. Horse girled it’s way into getting the frames it uses.

How do you get such nice shots in captura? I wanna get better at it could you share some tips? Been trying to figure it out but I admit I'm not the most knowledgeable in photography etc.
Well.... It's a bit of a complicated process and it relies very very much on personal preference. Much like with any type of art there are different styles that each individual artist will gravitate toward. I can only show you how I do things, so I'd recommend asking other Captura folks on here about their own styles to see where our processes and preferences differ.
I'll also include some extremely helpful videos at the bottom, they go extremely in depth as to best practices and technical exploits.
Alright, lets get started with the background stuff... the tools! ReShade: Shader injection, a MUST if you want to take dynamic and customized captura without using a program like Photoshop to do everything in post.
SRWE: Simple Runtime Window Editor.... the god among programs... It's an upscaler, allowing you to increase the resolution of the game beyond the bounds of your monitor. It's how I was able to get 15K panoramas at one point in time.
Any image editing software. Since I rely mainly on compositing to get the lighting I do, I need something to overlay and mesh the images with. I use GIMP cuz it's free, but even Microsoft Paint will work as soon as it add the ability to layer images.
Those are the tools... what about the tactics?
Well, I generally prefer moodier shots with the Warframe being the central focus (though, that's also the side effect of me cropping the image). Just a note! Moody doesn't mean dark, moody is the enigmatic space between dark and light where there is more dark than light... but there's still a good amount of light to be had. Occasionally you can have overexposure in a moody shot even.
Important to note, the overall exposure level of the environment, even is the scene lighting is low, will effect how brightly your Warframe can be lit. Both the Scene Light and Exposure sliders need to be fine-tuned otherwise you won't be able to light your Warframe at all.
Now, for shot composition I prefer low angles with either a cluttered but familiar/recognizable background, or a simple but abstract background. The Subject, be it a Warframe, an enemy, or an NPC, reside in the center with their feet out of shot.
Like so:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each of these shots also demonstrate well the way I like to pose my subjects: Symmetry and.... not... not symmetry. The official term for this is Contrapposto, which is Italian for Counterpoise. Basically, even though the Wisp is sedentary, her body is still giving off the impression of movement based on how her waist is curving and hips are tilted, forming a loose 'S' shape. There's a handful of animation sets, Khora (Urushu) Noble, Mesa Noble, and Wisp Noble are excellent for this.
Some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But... what about the lighting? This is where things get technical. So, the standard Captura's three-point lighting system is generally inadequate at properly lighting the entire Warframe. This is where compositing enters the picture, in a very literal sense. Each of these shots, shown above, are composites of between two and four separate images, each with different lighting angles. I actually have an example I made for an earlier explanation made already (thank goodness)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Getting the different lighting angles is really simple, just rotate the 3-way lighting without moving the camera. Then you overlay them in some photo editing software and just start going layer by layer, erasing bits of the topmost layer to reveal your desired highlights or shadows from the shot underneath.
Don't feel obligated to do this compositing process though! Sometimes the 3-way lighting works perfectly well for a shot or environment, don't feel obligated to complicate this process.
And this segues in nicely to the final part of the shot-making process, post-processing and fog layers.
Now, fog layers are important to the overall appearance and vibe of my Captura. They add texture the image that the game doesn't impart naturally, removing large swathes of solid color from the background and foreground. An added bonus is that the added texture makes the image look somewhat better (imo) when compressed, or when viewed at lower resolutions.
The same image with and without Fog
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This shot contains two individual fog layers, one in the foreground, washing out the foliage, giving the general uniformity of it texture and implied depth, it also serves to cover up the manual blurring I did (poorly) around his legs. Then there's the background Fog, which is the deeper blue you see in the sky. It adds a more dynamic air to the generally dour set of greys. And, again, the fog is just something I personally like to add, even if it doesn't serve a practical purpose in a shot. No shade if someone feels the fog ruins the shot, I almost always keep a fog-free version about.
After the fog is added, blended, and blurred slightly, I will apply a few gentle blurring filters to remove any jarring or jagged pixelation from the shot, giving the Frame a somewhat smoother appearance and reducing the file-size dramatically.
That's just how I do it though, it's not a particularly popular style, but it's how I do it and how I love to do it! :3 Remember to ask around, I'm sure there's lotsa Captura Artists out there willing to explain their methods and processes.

good luck, and happy snapping!

Sol, the Umbral Valkyr and Lua, the Umbral Khora are done!
The embodiment of the alignment that Tenno choose, the love between these two is eternal!
The Tale of Sol:
The sun is often seen as what brings life to the origin system. To some it is the light that many look toward to brighten their day, while others see it as as source of heat that can both help or harm. Thus is the nature of Sol, the Champion of Romula, The One Armed Lioness and who Tenno pay tribute to when one aligns with the Sun.
Though she did not always have a name, as names hold power. She was hailed as the relentless warrior in Romula’s Gladitorial Arena. Her ferocity caught the attention of an Orokin Prince and his loyal maid, who paid a large sum for ownership of The One Armed Lioness as he wanted a new pet. But the Lioness cannot be tamed, lashing out at her new master whenever he told her to sit or heed his command. In turn, he would strike at her with his whip, the Mazzo (Bouquet) and have her locked in her cell whenever she disobeyed.
The Lioness’s nights were miserable, cold and confined but they weren’t solely gloom, as the prince’s maid was responsible for feeding her. Mistrustful at first, the Lioness bit the hand that fed her but she’d eventually ease up. The two would bond over their struggles during while everyone was sleep, sharing their stories with one another. Infatuated by the Lioness, the maid enjoyed every second with her. But the maid unintentionally doomed when she gave her a name, Solaris, her beloved star in the sky.
When their master found out, he was seething with anger at his maid’s disloyalty. He wanted to punish her, but he couldn’t lay a finger on her. Thus he opted to teach her a lesson…by taking away that which she loved most. The prince employees an Orokin Executioner to find the most sadistic way for Sol to suffer, and the maid was forced to watch as her lover was mutilated by the Helminth strain.
“Do you still love this beast, dearest? “ he asked, before dragging her away.
Sol was changed that day, screaming like she had in the arena all her life. But her fighting spirit and love for the maid could never be calmed, breaking free every time her captors restrained he. Eventually her rebellious nature was deemed so dangerous that they had to ship her to an Orokin Scientist on Jupiter by the alias “V”. And there she stays, restrained as she always was and waiting for the day she’d be reunited with the night to her day.
The Tale of Lua:
The moon is often said to be the reflection of the sun, the dark side in the night sky in the absence of light. Cold and eerie as it is, it is also peaceful as it hides both dangers and those from danger. Thus its he nature of Lua the Maiden, the Black Kavat, and who Tenno pay tribute to the one aligns with the Moon.
Born as an orphan on Malva, she was adopted by royalty at a young age because of her beauty. “My dear, you are as beautiful as the moon in the pitch black of night. I will name you Lua” her master said, showering her with favouritism but she to love him, and only him. The Orokin Prince was a spoiled child, often bring back pets from his travels, but he never cared about taking care of them. Thus it was Lua’s responsibility to feed them, but she’d grow attached to each critter she had to babysit. And whenever she showed affection to these pets, this would upset the prince who would “take them away” from her whenever she loved them more than him. With each pet taken, she’d grow more and more melancholy. Fearful that she’d never be able to love something without it being taken away.
By the 8th pet, she swore she wouldn’t love another again. But during the end of one Venusian winter, her master brought back another pet…a human. Surely she wouldn’t fall for this one. Whenever this one was locked up, Lua brought food to the human every night. Though she couldn’t bare to see the other shivering and chained this way. Thus she tried to take care of her, giving her some comfort but remembering to not show affection. Though the two would share their sorrows during the cover of night, speaking about their lives and how they both grew up trapped in someway. Lua sympathised with the other, and felt genuine affection from another for once in her life. This led to her greatest mistake…as she named the human Solaris, a beacon of Venusian hope.
When her master found out, Lua could only watch as her beloved was tortured, her head locked in place by her master to witness every second of it. It broke her as she was pulled away by her master, she had lost too many. That night she finally snapped, poisoning her former Orokin master. The crime and punishment was high for assassination of Orokin blood, thus she was put to the same chair that Sol was in. But Lua would break free with the help of her dead master’s whip, the Mazzo when she heard news that Sol was still alive.
Thus her journey continues to Jupiter, where she will free Sol once more. Happy Star Days, Tenno.
