Ranking mxtx couples by whether or not I think they'd be good parents

Wangxian: tried and tested good dads. I wish them luck with the whole “trying to get wwx pregnant” thing 

They have some shit to work through, but after that I think they'd be fine (A)-

Ling Wen/ Bai Jin: if we're just going off the original publication, I would put them in a much lower tier, but since the revised edition added that thing about them raising orphans together and said orphans turning out alright before unfortunate circumstances, I'm putting them up here. I think they'll be alright once they work through the miscommunication

Xiao Xingchen/ Song Lan: They obviously have a lot of trauma they're working through, but I'd like to think they and A-Qing will be a loving family in the long run 

One of them would be a good parent, the other wouldn't be a bad parent (B)-

Jiang Yanli/ Jin Zixuan: there's no canon reason for me putting them this low. Jin Zixuan just gives off a mediocre parent vibe to me (and we all know Jiang Yanli is the best)

Yushipei: Yushi Huang has good mom energy, and Pei Ming has been shown to be a not terrible mentor. I'd want the misogyny fully beaten out of him with a mace before I'd think he should have kids of his own though 

Lang Qianqiu/ Little Guy: at the very least, they're making sure Guzi is fed, clothed, washed, vaccinated, and has access to education. Neither of them know what they're doing, but I think Little Guy is good at faking it. I wish them luck in their upcoming custody battle  

You know what, surprise me/ I'll hear you out (C)-

Bingqiu: My first instinct is “no, do not bring kids into this,” but then I remembered tharnShen Qingqiu has a surprisingly decent track record? Like, Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turned out a lot more health than they did in the original novel, and though I wouldn't call him in a good place, Binghe is doing a lot better than Bingge. The wild card for me here is Luo Binghe because I have no idea how he'd be with kids

Quanyin: Yin Yu had a decent track record until he was pushed into snapping. I think rn, he needs a couple centuries of being a babygirl before he's ready to parent again. No idea how Quan Yizhen would do though 

Born to “dual income, no kids, rich uncles/aunts” (D)-

Fengqing: Feng Xin is canonically a bad dad. I know he's working on it, but it is what it is. Mu Qing has been shown to be decent with kids, but I think he’d have a melt down if he had to deal with the mess constantly. 

Hualian: I mean, Xie Lian has raised three kids at this point and one of them became a god, another became state preceptor and then sorta complicit in a genocide, and one became god AND committed genocide + he babysat a ghost king for months and didn't even realize that's what he was because it was a miracle if he remembered to feed him… so, a mixed bag. Hua Cheng may be schrodinger’s child hater, but I'm intrigued by the idea of him raising kids just because I want to know how his own childhood would influence his parenting abilities. They should probably just stick to babysitting for now though 

Mingling: Liu Mingyan is too busy writing gay porn to be dealing with kids, and I just can't imagine Sha Hualing as a mom

Mobeishang: Shang Qinghua should not be put in any position where he has to teach someone about consent (Binghe’s early attempts at flirting being a prime example of why that's a bad idea). I also think Mobei Jun is still working on the whole “why hitting people is not cool” thing. 

QiJiu: I think the original timeline is a prime example of how they're just not in a place to be raising kids 

Jun Wu/ Mei Nianqing: Xie Lian would like a refund on his adopted father figures. They had one kid and he only made it to age 20 because he was cursed to not die

paul, a lowkey (highkey) filmbro, drags his partners with him to the theater to watch EVERY new film that comes out. he brings a notebook w him to take notes and emma and bill r extremely supportive of how passionate he is about film and let him rant about it afterwards

bill LOVES to bake, (he used to bake a lot for alice before the divorce) so ofc he bakes any and everything for his partners whenever they want.

emma, the traveller of the trio, plans road trips every once in awhile, making sure to add stops in places she thinks bill and paul would be interested in going :) she finds she enjoys travelling with them just as much as she did alone (maybe even better)

paul is a board game enthusiast, so his partners spend a lot of time learning how to play very specific board games for their hangouts :3

bill is THE designated driver. he vowed to stay sober after alice was born because he dealt with an alcoholic father, so he's been sober ever since. he'll drive paul & emma around if they drink and just generally watches over them when they get drunk LOL

alice was pretty shocked to learn that bill had a boyfriend AND a girlfriend but she adjusted pretty quickly. she thinks emma is SUPER cool and they bond over the most random things ever. but yea theyre besties pretty much

Exactly this! I mean, if you look at Prime's official character description for the two of them, you can see how skewed it is insofar as the dependence they have on what defines their indentites

They've been side by side for so long they can't imagine life any other way.

Even though this is about both of them, we know how much more this resonates with Crowley, if only because he’s the one who is at least consciously acting on it (there’s a whole universe out there and we could have been an “us” just to pick the most obvious ones)

Aziraphale, though, has never quite come to terms with how the world actually is and lives within the bubble of the world he has created

Where Crowley is idealistic but pragmatic, Aziraphale is (to a certain extent) naive, deluded, and in denial from sheltering himself away from the realities of, well, reality. He enjoys letting Crowley rescue him as much as Crowley enjoys playing rescuer, but this dynamic has snowballed into something else by the time we get to the end of Every Day. Granted, Aziraphale has millennia of religious and institutional trauma to work through, but so does Crowley. The thing is, their traumas manifest in different ways.

For Crowley, who was cast down for asking too many questions, does not tend to directly verbalize his wants. Instead, he hints and wheedles. Crowley, being a kindhearted demon—an idiosyncrasy in itself—does not accept compliments. In fact, he actively reacts from even a slight acknowledgement from Aziraphale (nice is a four letter word and do you know how much trouble a demon can get into?) (also if you haven’t seen it you should look at that one post by @edgarallennope on how being punished after 1827 was the reason why he asked for holy water in 1862). So, a) the talking and b) the being nice/being with an angel. Despite this, we see how hard Crowley tries to work through his confession at the end, only to be, as he sees it, thoroughly rejected, as he is every time he tries to move forward with Aziraphale (you go too fast for me and there is no our side, Crowley and nothing lasts forever).

Aziraphale, whose relationship with Heaven has a clear parallel with Nina and Lindsay, needs to learn to truly separate himself from Them and heal. Despite the ridicule and the ostracism he’s experienced, it’s nothing compared to Crowley’s Fall (not to compare traumas, of course) and as Crowley said, he understood what Aziraphale was asking from him far more than Aziraphale did in wanting him to return. Aziraphale remembers how much Crowley used to smile and how he’s done so less and less over time (not even just from angel → demon but during their time on earth) and probably attributes that to The Fall. He still has to unlearn the major heavenly conditioning doctrines and work against his bias against Hell.

Anyway. They need to learn to communicate. And they need to work together. It has been three days and I am unwell.

anon, i am saying this with all the love in my heart: if you're trying to analyze the relationship pierre and charles have with one another based on their girlfriends and how their relationships appear to us (the public), it's time to take a step back.

i love pierre/charles. everyone knows this. but their personal lives are just that - personal. i don't post about wags because they are not celebrities or people i'm invested in, and truthfully, i just don't care. but it doesn't really matter what i think. those women are in very real, very loving relationships with our favs, and turning silly harmless posts about alex's "lesbian pride flag" dress into serious potential beard commentary feels like a bit much.

i don't mean this to be rude, i promise, and i apologize if it comes off that way. but what i think is that it's important to keep the real life portion of rpf in perspective. i love speculation as much as the next person and god knows i have my own delusions and Beliefs, but i ground those in the foundation of rpf: they're real people, and my ideas are, ultimately, fiction.
