100 Years in Between (Part 2)
So, 100 Years was REALLY supposed to be a one-shot, but you guys wanted more so, so here it is! But I’ll warn you that there’s no conclusion yet. I estimate two more parts to this.
I think this was the first Zelink story I posted on Tumblr and I was really blown away by the feedback. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, liked, or reblogged it! My apologies for taking so long with this! Enjoy!
{Part One}
He wakes with strangled breaths as if stalkoblins are clawing through his chest and sinking white, gnarled fingers into the blood-filled caverns of his heart. Bile burns his throat, stinging his tongue with rancid acid as he heaves into the dry grass. His hand reaches blindly for the Master Sword, ears perked to listen for threats, and draws it before him until his vision is clear enough to focus.
It’s daybreak and there’s nothing in front of him but the dying embers of the fire, and immediately he understands the trepidation lighting up his nerves.
Zelda is gone.
And to his horror, so is her pack, along with her bedroll and the Sheikah Slate. Because that doesn’t make sense. If her belongings are not here, it means she left willingly. But why would she do that? How can he protect her if he’s not with her?
He gathers his possession in a hazed rush and dashes over to the Woodland Stable. Ever since he’s noticed her discomfort with crowds, they’ve opted to sleep a short distance away from the stables, but maybe that was a mistake since now the chances of anyone seeing her is slim to none. He asks Kish anyway when he retrieves Epona from the stalls.
“The blondie you were with yesterday? I saw her walk over to the glowy thing over there, but by the time I looked back over, she was gone.”
He suspected as much, but the real question is whether or not she’ll still be there by the time he makes it. Once Epona is saddled, he urges her towards Rito Village. If nothing else, it’s his duty to ensure the Princess’s safety.
Truth be told, he remembers very little of his life as Link, the Appointed Knight to Zelda, Crown Princess of Hyrule. The only sure thing he knows is that the Spirit of the Hero binds him to her side, and even if she hates it, even if she hates him, he intends to stay with her.
Or intended because she chose to leave him, but he doesn’t give himself the opportunity to ruminate over that thought until he ensures that she’s safe.
It takes him a little over half a day of furious riding to see the Rito Stable cresting over the hill. The sun has all but settled below the horizon as he boards up Epona and sprints across the bridges and into Rito Village.
Not many people are wandering around, not even Marth who typically guards just outside of the village. His heart is threatening to burst from his chest as he climbs stairs after stairs and nearly runs into Verla as he skids into Swallow’s Roost. Without greeting him nor Cecili who is peering curiously at him, Link skims his eyes over all the beds searching for golden blonde locks and fails to find any.
He darts further up the stairs before the two can say anything to him.
He finds Teba before he finds Kanali, the Rito strolling on the pathway that leads to the Akh Va’quot Shrine. That is more than enough evidence for the answer he seeks and his shoulder sags.
“Link,” Teba greets, clearly startled. “I wasn’t expecting to see you. Princess Zelda said you were resting.”
Link almost arches a brow and asks, “Is that so?” but schools his expression quickly. The implication of those actions is still something he hasn’t given himself time to think about.
Instead, he says, “I feel restless leaving her alone.” And it’s true. How else can he explain this incessant need to stay close to her despite how painful it is for him?
Teba chuckles. “Fret not, my friend. Saki, Amali, and the kids kept her plenty of company all day. We encouraged her to rest here for the night, but she insisted that the slate would get her safely to Gerudo Town and she wanted extended time there.” He looks back towards the shrine and shakes his head, slightly awed. “I’ve never seen someone disappear right in front of me before. That explains how I’ve never actually seen you walk into the village.”
“It’s certainly convenient,” he tries to smile, though it might’ve resembled a grimace more than anything. “We’ll have to catch up more next time. Thank you for the hospitality you showed to the Princess.”
“About that,” Teba says just as Link turns on his heels. “We believed her because she carried the Sheikah Slate like you once had, but it was still a lot to take in. Still, I’m surprised she’s made her decision so quickly as to not reinstate the monarchy.”
Link freezes mid-step but doesn’t turn lest he reveals his shock. This is new information. Information she hadn’t shared with him. But then again, why would she? He, a mere knight displaced in time…
“If that is her last decree, then all we can do is respect it.” He hopes Teba doesn’t catch the strain in his voice. “She’s done more than enough for Hyrule.”
He turns just enough to nod to the Rito before sprinting down the stairs and hopping over railings to get to the ground. At the stable, he saddles Storm instead of Epona to allow her to rest and rides towards the desert.
And through the night, he rides. Storm is dropped off at the Gerudo Canyon Stable and he changes into his vai clothing set with sandshoes strapped to his legs. By the time he reaches the high walls of Gerudo town, the sun is breaking on the horizon. He almost walks straight in, but something stops him. Zelda hadn’t wanted him to go with her. Can he really just waltz in?
He veers right and around the shrine, then scales up the wall. Making his way to the palace, he spots her—the familiar braided crown of gold as she exits the inn and strolls through the stalls within the city, her eyes alighting at different products.
She’s curious, always curious. She takes time to examine the clothes, the fruits, the jewelry that all define Gerudo culture, much like how she picks at the mushrooms and flowers in the wild, documenting all their unique attributes. Everything has a purpose in her eyes, none of which are too insignificant to make note of. It’s when she’s immersed in her research that she is most radiant.
It’s painful to watch, to know what her kindness truly looks like and not have it. She’s oddly demure around him, tiptoes around questions she really wants to ask. He doesn’t care for it. Doesn’t want her pity or her guilt.
She hated him, once, 100 years ago. So much that she obviously ran from him despite him being her appointed knight. The memory Urbosa left him, the one on top of Vah Naboris, had sent a frightening ache through him. Her disdain at him was so heart-wrenchingly palpable, and perhaps it’s because he pities his old self that he doesn’t want her to pity him as well.
He must have...loved her.
He could see it in his own eyes in that memory, the way they stared tenderly at her sleeping form. Had she known? Had she known of his feelings, and now that he helped free her from Calamity, she feels like she owes him something? He doesn’t want it. Doesn’t want her forced feelings.
He rather her continue to hate him than that.
But no, she offers to help him forage for food, offers to help set up camp. She acts like she worries about his well-being, and it’s so tempting to give into it all. To pretend that was what their normal was.
However, that’s not what the memories told him; they did not speak of fondness. But he is fond—so, so fond of her in ways he can’t remember yet feels in every second he spends with her. And what he can’t remember nearly brings him to his knees. He isn’t sure he could handle remembering them.
What if they showed her rejection? Her disappointment when he fell, unable to fulfil his duty to her and her country? He doesn’t want to see it. It’s the one choice he gets to have in this whole situation—he’s choosing to live blissfully unaware.
(Because he really didn’t have a choice once she called out to him. His very soul longed for her.)
Zelda is at the stairs to the palace now, ascending step by step. Like Teba, the guards recognize the Sheikah Slate and grant her passage. Riju sits casually on her throne, a bored expression feigned on her face.
He can’t hear much of what they say, but Riju sounds haughty at first, waving her hand with casual gestures in an attempt to look indifferent, before warmth inevitably enters her tone. He’s not surprised; Zelda has that effect on everyone she meets, charms them effortlessly. Even the Deku tree made note of this.
She has a smile like the sun.
And too often is Link blinded by it.
They speak some more and then Riju stands to give what looks to be a tour. He follows them discreetly, reveling in the sound of her voice after too many hours without hearing it.
He assumed she might have wanted to stay another night, knowing of her closeness with the old Gerudo Chief, but at dusk, she grabs the few belongings she has and heads back out to the shrine. He watches, stiff, knowing anywhere she goes, he will have a hard time finding her, and an even more difficult time catching up. Should he stop her—?
Then, as if she can feel his gaze on her, she looks up, eyes locking on his and recognition dawns on her face. But her hand is already on the slate and a shimmer of blue light envelops her, whisking her away in streaks of blue.
He waits with bated breath.
It takes a few minutes—a few minutes of his heart stuttering in his chest in equal parts hope and dread—before she materializes back on the steps of the shrine. Her eyes are wide, disbelieving even, as they find him again still perched on top of the sandstone walls.
“L-Link,” she calls out, and he doesn’t miss the hesitant hitch in her voice, “I didn’t expect—I didn’t think—” He wants her to finish her sentence because he doesn’t know what she’s been thinking. “I’m going back to Hateno. Is that—is that where you’re heading to?”
I go where you go, he almost says, but doesn’t that sound so desperate? As if he can’t exist without her near him?
And yet, he finds it to be true as he steps onto the shrine with her, the proximity shooting shocks up his arms when he wraps them around her shoulder. Gods, he wants so badly to sag into her hold
She tentatively encircles his waist with one hand, the other navigating through the slate to send them into wisps of light that arch over Hyrule. He hates how uncomfortable she still is at being this close to him, how 100 years ago, she never would have had to endure it. How, as their feet touch the ground again, he disgustingly doesn’t want to let go despite her obvious discomfort.
They untangle themselves from one another and Zelda stares at him as if she’s trying to memorize his face.
“Goodnight,” she finally says, handing him the slate and turning to walk up the hill to Purah’s lab. There are two drawers he keeps empty but only one bed at his house, and how could he possibly ask the Princess of Hyrule to stay with him in a shack that was almost torn down?
He trudges home, letting his pouches and weapons clatter to the ground. The only thing he hangs on to is the slate.
He climbs the steps to the loft, limbs unusually heavy, and plops onto the bed face first. Then he rolls over and brings the slate overhead.
He shuffles through the screen until he comes across a folder labeled Memories. How often has he shifted through them? Imagined what it was like, or would be like, to go to these places with her? Pretend they held happy memories instead of what’s more likely: Zelda putting him in his place, telling him what must be done.
As long as he never seeks them out, he’ll never have to know.
He opens the album, but a blank page greets him.
The pictures are gone.

What breed of dog are Connor Kara Markus (Ralph?) And Alice's favorite ???
A/N: You don’t understand how much I loved writing this. I got to talk about dogs! I got a lot of the information from various sources and based their favorite dog around their personality. So, I guess this is also what breed the characters would be if they were dogs? Idk I just love dogs
Connor –
The Affenpinscher
Tumblr media
Known to be quite curious and loyal himself, the android would be most attracted to the Affenpinscher breed. He’d be fascinated that although despite its smaller size, the dog would be fearless, tending not to back down from a challenge. Affenpinschers generally are quite animals, but when they’re excited, nothing can stop its spark and fire. Connor couldn’t help but fall in love with the animal at first sight, not hesitating to run to Hank and ask if he could keep it. After numerous amounts of facts on why the dog would be beneficial thrown his way, the older detective would reluctantly nod his head, allowing the android to have it. The android would immediately search through a database of names that could fit the little canine. Eventually, he decided on Amalie (meaning hard working, industrious, laborious and curious individual).
Fun fact: Described by the French as the “diablotin moustachu,” or mustached little devil. But, the German ‘affen’ is for monkey/ape, while ‘pinscher’ is terrier which directly translates to Monkey Terrier.
Kara –
The Golden Retriever
Tumblr media
How could she not fall in love with this adorable pooch? Golden Retrievers are known to be great therapy dogs, especially towards a younger audience. Of course, this meant that she had another aid to help her out with Alice! This breed tends to become sad and even depressed when left alone for long periods of time so Kara always made sure that between her, Alice, and Luther, someone would be giving the animal some love. The pooch is able to bark loudly at strangers, but once they physically interact with another, they become friendlier. These dogs can easily adapt to new environments and are easy to train, making them one of the most popular breeds. The animal tended to get into so mischief with Alice at times so Kara and Luther decided on the name, Rascal (another name for a trouble maker).
Fun fact: Golden Retrievers are used for search and rescue teams because of their keen sense of smell and tracking abilities.
Markus –
The Siberian Husky
Tumblr media
A Siberian Husky for sure. These canines are intelligent and affectionate without being needy. They tend not to be aggressive, but they are territorial. Despite being intelligent however, Huskies aren’t as eager to please humans as other breeds, making them more difficult to be able to train. This breed needs knowledgeable owners who are ensuring that they are socialized and trained throughout their lives. Used for sledding, these Arctic animals tend to work in packs to carry out a deed. How fitting that Markus also works in groups? Huskies have the tendency to wander away from home, causing them to be lost. Markus knew he found the right dog when he noticed the different colored eyes that it had. One an icy blue while the other was a deep brown. The android had to choose the name Champ for this pup (short for Champion).
Fun fact: Huskies sleep curled up with their nose touching their tail. This is known as the Swirl.
Ralph –
The Irish Wolfhound
Tumblr media
An introverted Irish Wolfhound for an introverted android? Uh, yes! Despite its giant size (up to seven feet on its hind legs), these canines are very docile creatures. They are one of the oldest breeds known which causes confusion in the exact origin of how they came to where they are today. Not only were they used to hunt wolves, but they were also used to battle humans as well! Both Ralph and the dog were intimidated by each other at first, not knowing what to do. But, as time passed, they both grew to love each other. Even more so when the animal fetched succulent dinner for Ralph! In the beginning, the android was just going to name it ‘Dog’ (he didn’t know he actually had to give it a name), but he decided on the title Wanderer.
Fun fact: Irish Wolfhounds are described by the Irish proverb, “Gentle when stroked, fierce when provoked”. Makes sense that Ralph was so attached to it!
Alice –
The American Cocker Spaniel
Tumblr media
How could she choose only one dog? There’s so many! But, if she absolutely had to, she had to choose the American Cocker Spaniel. She watched ‘Lady and the Tramp’ once and she knew that she wanted to have her own Lady. Lucky for her, the Cocker Spaniel are happy, cheerful dogs that are great with children. Like the Golden Retriever, this breed does not like to be alone as well. Good thing that Alice will constantly be playing with it 24/7, even when its tired out! This dog is definitely a barker despite its sweet nature, but still has a soft personality that does not work well in harsh environments (which caused the young girl and the young pup to be attracted to each other immediately). Alice would be up all night, reading ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ to the puppy, ignoring bedtime rules. And of course, she just had to name it Lady. Now, she had both Rascal and Lady to play with!
Fun fact: Cocker Spaniels love toys. They will even go to great lengths to obtain more, including destroying their old one.
Bonus! Gavin:

6 for the AU ask game?
6. AU where your ocs are all various types of animals at a pet store/petting zoo
I MEAN THEY COULD’VE JUST SAID FURSONAS Anyway I’m laughing really hard at this prompt, it’s great, and I know a lot of the answers which is delightful.
Sayara’s a bird. She’s a red-tailed hawk, specifically, but if we’re choosing pet animals then I’m gonna go for one of those little blue chirpy dudes. My brain keeps saying chickadees but I know that’s wrong, but they’re not cockatiels, uh, uh..... PARAKEETS. I think they’re parakeets. Small, loud, annoying, but way smarter than you think.
Fianora’s a golden retriever puppy. Either that or she’s actually a chickadee.
Aelia might be a hamster or some other kind of rodent? I’m having trouble coming up with one for her. She’s not a small person, but she’s scrappy and fast and agile, but she doesn’t have cat energy. She’s not edgy enough to be a wolf, maybe a fox..?
Violet and Lavender are grumpy black cats together. I could also see Violet being some kind of snake, but I want to bring out her soft side.
Kyrina’s a chihuahua. Like, okay, technically her associated animal symbols are dragons, but the mental image of Ky as a tiny yappy dog is too funny to pass up. It’s true, too, she’s small and she’s literally always ready to throw down.
Dusk would be a lizard, maybe a chameleon. I’m not really sure why, it just seems appropriate.
Amalie’s some kind of rare breed of snake.
Hope is a fish. But in a petting zoo she could also be a deer, maybe, or an owl. Hope would make a good barn owl.

What is Amalie like with a cold? And does Kei take care of her?
Fairly standard, to be honest—definitely less excitable, though. She gets overwhelmed easily when sick, too. While Kei isn’t a big gift giver by any means, they do a good job keeping a lookout, monitoring temperature, and doing other acts of service that make her job easier.

👀😱for Kei (and possibly their gf Amalie) please! As an aside, thank you so much for your non-binary representation in the snz kink space!
Ask Prompts Here
👀: Does your character have the fetish? If not, in an AU where they were, what aspect would they enjoy most about it?
Kei does have the fetish, and Amalie indulges in it to the point that she could be considered to have it as well. Kei personally enjoys their own sneezes for the feeling of it, and likes the hitches! Amalie is also there for the slight desperation factor.
😱: How embarrassed do they get about sneezing? Do they brush it off, or do they get really apologetic?
Keirie isn’t exactly apologetic, but definitely not unashamed. They’ll apologize for certain when in public, but despite being an elephant, their sneezes aren’t to worrisome to deal with. Their sneezes are considerd quiet for an elephant—not stifled, but not destructive. Kei even partially wishes they had a bigger sneeze.

any more ocs to share? specifically looking for female ocs that I can ask about.
The only characters I own that exclusively use she/her pronouns are Boyzen and Amalie. Amalie is a cisgender female golden retriever, and Boyzen is an mtf swamp dreg.
I do have some femme-presenting characters, such as Bezyil, who uses they/she pronouns, and Keirie who uses exclusively they/them pronouns.
Other than that, the only other characters I have who use she/her pronouns is Rose, who I haven’t shared here! She’s a clouded leopard, and some of you may recognize her from my main blog:
Tumblr media
Beyond that, I think that’s most of my female or femme-presenting OCs. You can still ask about any species! I might try and host a post where this blog can craft an OC based on random rolls, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Since Kei has the kink and a very sensitive nose, do they enjoy when they catch a cold? And do they like being taken care of?
It’s a mixed bag!
Realistically, as with most people with the kink, a cold is more annoying than enjoyable. Kei wouldn’t consider themselves one to LIKE (much less go out of their way to try) catching a cold, more of a “this may as well happen” sort of scenario. They might enjoy the fact that they sneeze so much with a cold on the regular, sure! But that enjoyment is often felt alone, because they rather not be going around spreading it.
Kei won’t necessarily resist getting taken care of. They have a girlfriend, Amalie, who would probably talk about how lucky Kei must feel despite not having the kink herself. She would probably indulge more than Kei to be honest.
There’s a fic in the works that actually features Kei with a cold! So be on the lookout for that in this upcoming week or two.
