An Absolute Gem

Skye’s right hand woman. Amber’s hyperactive, buzzy, and sort of a klutz. Sometimes she’s a little too clever for her own good, other times there’s not a thought behind those eyes, but her logic always eludes even the keenest of minds. While Amber’s normally the sort to follow her heart instead of her brain, her first answer to anything seems to involve blunt force. She’s a…complex person.

Fun Facts

Amber is one of several characters to change names and colors in development, starting off as Charlie (chartreuse) and Scarlett (scarlet).

Amber’s surname, following the sweets theme, is a play on popcorn. Notably, Amber’s entire name (as opposed to most characters who only inherit a character’s first or last name) was originally Bridgette’s (beige) name while Amber was still Charlie. The popcorn joke made more sense with Bridgette’s hairstyle. I probably could’ve swapped their last names in hindsight.

Amber, like Eloise (turquoise), is colored after a gemstone despite not being a Diamond Drewman herself. Unlike Ellie, she takes some design aspects from her namesake. Specifically, she inherits an insect motif (dragonflies specifically) from amber’s tendency to trap bugs inside it as it hardens.

Amber’s very sarcastic but incapable of detecting it herself.

Amber’s eyes, due to how they’re are drawn, move apart slightly for some of her expressions.

Amber’s brain cell rapidly hits the inside of her skull like a screensaver. She strings thoughts together like this until she has a full idea. She’s a complete airhead as a result, but as a trade off the idea will be utterly genius.

So, remember Color Theory? It’s undergoing a reboot. All characters introduced up until this point, the one’s intended for Season Four, and a slew of newbies will appear, but some may have different names and some slight design tweaks. The 25 characters as seen above are the main cast.

About halfway through Season Two, my art style finally solidified, so most characters remained relatively constant from that point onward. Most. The S3 cast were mostly solidified upon conception, but…

Reese has a longer bob cut, the scar on her face has faded, and her head is more oblong.

Percy’s head shape became far more severe.

Amber’s face rounded out and hair thing swapped colors with her highlights.

Ringo’s jaw squared out, his fang swapped sides, and his hair became more reptilian looking.

Skye’s head flattened out on top and her eyes became more expressive.

Mallow became a darker mauve, has messier hair, and ditched her jacket.

Avery has a more streamlined face and grew his hair out.

Bonnie changed very little, but is a much more vibrant shade of ebony.

Cal gained two-tone hair and a SLIGHT cyan tinge.

And Rusty was apparently squished in an accident, since he’s a more reddish color and has a noticeably different facial structure.

Development

Paige, formerly Amber, actually started off with her present characterization of a meek, usually polite nerd. It was Rough Sketch that made her more outgoing than initially planned.

The jump to ICT returned her to her starting point along with a new coat of paint, albeit with the twist of her being an incredibly terse, occasionally sarcastic person. She’s slightly less shy and more introverted and pragmatic.
