The Great Femslash February Index Post
When I promised myself I'd start writing more, I probably should have committed to actual original fiction, but I didn't, so here we are. Femslash February 2024. 29 prompts. 29 fandoms. 29 different pairings (I'm very sorry to AO3 people who have subscribed to me for Critical Role stuff. CR is on the list).
I know femslash is traditionally defined as a focus on romantic/sexual relationships between women, but I want to try writing a lot of different stuff this month. So I've thrown in a couple of fics that are queer and have femslash elements, but might not be the traditional kind of femslash story.
The series description on AO3 doesn't have enough space to put all the information about prompt, pairing, and fandom, so I'm putting it here, along with links to each fic, under the cut. The prompt list I'm using is here.

Questions
Hey everyone, I would like some opinions. Would you guys prefer if I just uploaded my stories to Archive of Our Own and shared the link here or would you like me to submit it to tumblr as well? I would also like to know if you guys would like a preview of some of my works in progress so you can see what stories I'm working on?

@burninghooligans from [x]
Ah. So he wasn’t home. He made it all this way for nothing.
Arata let out a sigh, undoing his tie a little bit, he got dressed up and everything.
But he couldn’t blame Amy though, he was just doing his job - He seems to be a new recruit too...So he shouldn’t be so hard. Arata flashed a smile anyway.
Tumblr media
“I see, he’s busy.” As expected of a King, in hindsight. “I had something to discuss with him is all, about...What’s happened to me this past year.” He didn’t know why he wanted to keep him updated but felt it was best to...Didn’t want his Father thinking the worst of him. “A lot has happened so I thought he’d like to know is all.”
He paused.
“I would’ve liked to seen him again too.”

Every Baby Name We Could Possibly Think Of
Naming your baby is a big decision, and with endless options, it can also be a difficult one. Whether you're going the traditional route or want something more unique (if so, read this first!) it's helpful to have a little, or a lot, of inspiration. Ahead, you'll find nearly every baby name we could think of (close to 1,000!). These aren't just random names we found in a book or concocted ourselves - they're almost all monikers we've heard being used, or we actually know someone who goes by the name. If we missed any, tell us in the comments!

  #gallery-0-29 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-29 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  #gallery-0-30 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-30 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-30 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-30 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  #gallery-0-32 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-32 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  #gallery-0-34 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-34 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-34 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-34 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  #gallery-0-35 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-35 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-35 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-35 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Let’s go to the Digital World!
Hemos analizado ‘Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition’ gracias a un código digital cedido por Bandai Namco. Versión analizada: 1.0.3
Análisis Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition – Nintendo Switch.

Chapter 2 - Picinic
“Okay, so we are all good for a picnic!” Nokia exclaimed as the group of five friends plus partners met at Kamishiro Enterprise.
“We took a vote,” Arata commented dryly. “The only one who didn’t vote was Ami and that’s because she was distracted. We all said yes.”
“Great! Than let’s have a picnic at the beach. This way we can cool off from the heat.”
“Sounds good, but who will bring what?” Fei asked.
“See, I already have it all planned. Yuuko will bring the main course, Yuugo will bring the sides, Arata will bring the blanket and umbrella, Yasu and I will bring two different types of drinks, Fei will bring the coolers and ice, and Ami can bring that delicious raspberry cheesecake.”
“Nokia, you call all of my food delicious,” Ami said.
“Have you tasted your food?” Yasu asked. “It’s like a sneak peak of paradise.”
Arata crosses his arms with that statement wondering as to how and when Yasu had Ami’s home cooked meal. Not that he was jealous or anything, just curious. He will not disagree with Yasu’s statement about how good Ami’s cooking is.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had Ami’s home cooking before,” Yuuko said.
“Than you are missing out,” Nokia said. “Just wait until you try the cheesecake.” She than sighed. “Whoever marries Ami is going to be one lucky person, getting to eat Ami’s home cooked meals everyday.”
“It’s just a simple recipe,” Ami said. “Nothing special. Anyone can make it.”
“Are we okay with the assignments?” Nokia asked everyone.
“Yeah,” they agreed.
“Good, then we’ll see each other tomorrow afternoon,” Nokia said happily.
Ami looked at Arata after they sighed out of EDEN in Shibuya, “Well?”
“Well what?” Arata asked back.
“Marippe hasn’t called you in four days, that’s a record,” Ami explained.
“No, she’s called me, begged me to return to her, and upon me truly stating that we are over, she got mad. She’s mad about you blocking her number. You’re welcome.”
“I should have known that you was the reason she quit calling me,” Ami said with a smile. “I didn’t think you would have hacked into my digivice to do it.” Her smile turned into a small frown, her blue eyes showing worry. “So, you are being serious with this break-up?”
“Any person can go for so long with an on - and - off again relationship that Mari and I had,” Arata said. “I’ve reached my limit.”
“I just hate that two years of your life was wasted like that,” Ami said gently. Arata smirked at her, “What?”
“You care more about my life than I do,” Arata said. “In fact, you are possibly the mother of the group.”
“How is that possible?” Ami asked. “I’m the youngest.”
“You care more about your friends lives instead of your own, plus you always give out advice.”
“What’s wrong with that?” Ami questioned sharpy.
“Nothing is wrong with it, it just seems like you lived many lifetimes,” Arata explained. “What has gotten into you?”
“Nothing, it’s just, I guess I’m just anxious over the trip. Something just doesn’t feel right. I have never felt like this before.”
“Already feeling homesick?” Arata teased.
“Maybe,” Ami said with a smile. “However, I think it’s because I’m more worried about you.”
“Why are you worried about me?”
“When was the last time you lived alone?”
“Three years ago, a year before I moved in with Mari, why?” Just like that, he realized why she’s worried about him living by himself. “I’ll be fine, no need to worry,” Arata said rolling his eyes. “But, thanks.”
“Hmm?”
“For worrying about me, not many people do,” Arata said.
“Hehe, guess it’s the ‘mother’ in me,” Ami chuckled.
The next afternoon, at the picnic, Yuuko was eating the cheesecake Ami brought.
“This is so good!” Yuuko said drooling even though she had her own cheesecake while everyone had slices of another cheesecake.
“I know, right?” Nokia said giggling. “Please don’t ever open a restaurant Ami. I’ll be dead broke.”
Fei looked at Arata, “Rumor goin’ ‘round EDEN is that you an’ tha’ country gurl broke up.”
“Arata had a girlfriend?” Yuugo asked surprised.
“Yes, had. However, I had expected that question from Nokia,” Arata replied.
“I’m just mad that she wasn’t approved by us,” Nokia stated. “If you ever get back with her, she must be approved by all of us.”
“Any girlfriend to be exact,” Yuuko stated.
“I was dating her before we all met,” Arata deadpanned but the message was clear to those who remembered. He was dating her before they got reunited and had their memories return.
“Incoming,” Ami said seeing a volleyball heading towards them.
“Wah?” Nokia said turning to see what Ami was talking about before Yasu reached up and caught the volleyball. “My hero!”
“Not this again,” Fei said standing up. “Before you two lover birds get lost in your own world, I’m going to swim.” She grabbed her girlfriend and Yuugo. “C’mon you two.”
“But my cheesecake!” Yuuko said as she got dragged away from her half-eaten cheesecake.
“Oho, I am coming to,” Nokia said as she got up and ran after them, her boyfriend following like a dog to its owner.
“You aren’t going to join them?” Arata asked towards Ami who, unlike the others, was the only one wearing her regular clothing instead of a swimming outfit.
“Haha,” Ami said sarcastically as she rolled her eyes, “I am NOT putting on two bottles of sunscreen. Thank you very much.”
“Isn’t that a bit excessive?” Arata asked, watching Ami pick up their garbage, and put it in a bag to make it easier to throw away when they leave.
“Not for me,” Ami responded tying the first bag up. “Five bottles of sunscreen won’t work. The only time I like going to the beach is when it is cold or cool. I wanted to know where the picnic was going to be at before we voted. I was not distracted.”
“Aren’t you over exaggerating?”
“Maybe, maybe not,” Ami said. “I don’t plan on letting you find out. You can go out and play in the water and sand.”
“What are you going to be doing?”
“Stay under the shade, possibly take a nap,” Ami said with a shrug.
“That’s boring,” Arata said poking her arm.
“Excuse me for not wanting to enjoy the sun’s heat rays,” Ami said rolling her eyes. “No, I am not worried about getting skin cancer.”
“Than, what’s the problem?” Arata pressed.
“Hey!” Yasu yelled getting their attention. “We need one more for an even chicken battle.”
“Arata will join,” Ami said with a smile. She looked at the frowning teen. “Go, cool down. I’m fine here.”
Arata grumbled as he got up and made his way to the ocean’s inviting waters as Ami watched from the shore.
Her friends were on their third round when a beach goer went up to Ami, “Aiba? Is that you?” Ami turned her head and looked as one of her upper classmen stand next to her. “It is! I thought I’ll never see you at the beach again! I mean, considering that last time I saw you at the beach was for a school trip. You was forced to join in the beach events and the next day you was as red as your hair.”
“Yeah, well, my friends wanted to go to the beach and have a picnic,” Ami said looking away with a blush from embarrassment. “Are you enjoying your summer Hino?”
“Huh?” Fei asked looking at the shore, on top of Nokia’s shoulders, “Who's that?”
They looked over and saw a man talking animatedly with Ami, causing her to laugh, a hand covering her mouth. They couldn’t hear what he was saying, but Ami pushed his leg slightly shaking her head as he said something to her.
“I think they are schoolmates,” Nokia said. “I think his name is Hino. Ami had to tutor him after school or he had to give Ami tutoring lesson. Either that or since Ami is a goddess when it comes to researching things, he asked her to do some researching for the debate team.”
“I thought she wasn’t in any clubs,” Yuugo said.
“She’s not, but according to Sakura, Ami is an unofficial member of the debate team and science team,” Nokia said. “Again, Ami is a goddess when it comes to research.”
Arata watched as the man spoke something to her causing her to think before she explained something and pointed at him, causing Arata to raise an eyebrow. She than handed him her digivice allowing him to program or type something in her digivice. When he was done, he handed back the digivice. He bent down and  gave what seemed like a kiss on her cheek before he jogged away.
Arata had to mentally take breaths, he was confused over why he was jealous...AGAIN. Was it because he felt a weird need to protect her, or is it because she’s too soft-hearted and willing to help others. He had Yuugo on his shoulders so he looked at the two teams, “Hey, this will be my last round!”
He noticed something in Nokia eyes, a not so hidden smile on her face. He was going to ask what her deal is when Yasu on top of Yuuko’s shoulders started to attack Fei and Nokia.
Arata got out of the water after Yuugo and him won their third and final round and made his way towards the blanket. “Got tired?” Ami asked.
“Mhm,” Arata hummed sitting down next to her. “Beating the other teams was easy since there was no dating partners involved.”
“How was Yuuko able to hold Yasu up?” Ami questioned.
“Fei egged her on,” Arata commented. “So, you had some company and pointing to me, why?”
“An upper classmen of mine actually has a case for me in which I’ll need your help with.”
“Oh?” Arata asked
“There’s a problem with his EDEN account, he keeps getting a private forum with the password, but no one ever appears. He has tried to message the person back, but no response,” Ami explained. “Does Nokia realize she’s going to be sunburnt?”
“Knowing her, no,” Arata answered as they looked at their friends in the water. “I think the only ones who aren’t going to get burnt is Fei and Yasu. So, we will be working a case together like old times?”
“Yep. Oh, Marippe has been calling you.”
“I’ll deal with her later,” Arata spoke realizing something. He no longer felt the emotional pain, he didn’t feel like his heart was shattering upon hearing her name, and now that he thinks about it, it has been a while since he felt that. It’s been close to four months of not having that pain.
He looks over at Ami who is still watching their friends. He knows that it is thanks to her caring, worrying, always having his back, and being there with an open door for him, that he was able to heal. Her blue eyes looked over at him and she tilted her head, confusion and worry shining in her eyes.
“Is something wrong?” she asked.
“No, nothing, why?”
“Just wondering,” she said. “You’ve been quiet.”
“I’m fine, just trying to get inside Nokia’s head,” Arata said with a gentle smile before turning his focus back on their friends. He could feel Ami gaze on him and the guilt of lying to her started to weigh on his mind, but then she moved her gaze.
“I know you are lying,” Ami said softly, “but I am here for you for whenever you need to talk. I appreciate you caring about how I feel, but lying to me only makes me worry more about you.”
“Sorry,” Arata said. “It’s just that I’m still figuring it out myself.”
Ami let out a small giggle, “Well, if you need to me, I can be your sound board. Something for you to bounce ideas off of.”
“I’ll keep it in mind,” Arata said.
It wouldn’t be fair for Arata to start dating Ami, it wouldn’t be fair to her actually. He can tell she thinks he is still going to get back with Mari. The whole entire time that he was having problems in his failing relationship, he accidentally put Ami in the middle of it all. She might think he’s using her as a rebound relationship to get back at Mari. Arata looked back over at her quickly before going back to their friends. He thinks for now that he can handle staying close to her a friend, until he’s sure he’s completely healed and over a broken two year relationship.

Arata didn’t care if her got weird stares or if people thought he was unapproachable, he simply did not want to be at this party. He strongly disliked parties, especially parties where there was drinking. He was here at this party to be a designated driver, so that’s why he was sitting alone at a table with his own water bottle, working on his french homework. He really should get a tutor in it.
“Bonjour monsieur, puis-je avoir ce siège?” a female asked from next to him causing him to stare at a red hair, blue eyes lady, he’s never seen before. His helpful mind first thought was she’s pretty.
“What?” Arata questioned glaring at the giggling stranger.
“I said, hello sir, may I have this seat?” she said holding onto the vacant chair to his left.
“I don’t care,” Arata said thinking she’ll take it over to a different table. He was surprised when she sat down in the chair. “What are you doing?”
“I believe I am sitting,” she responded with a bright smile on her face.
“I can see that, but why are you sitting here?”
“Besides the fact I have a better view of my three friends I’m in charge of? You looked like you needed someone to sit next to you to help you with what appears to be french,” she said.
“I see, so you are just going to help out a random person with their homework?”
“I helped a random Digimon get a circus job,” she responded flatly.
“A Digimon with a circus job? You are joking.”
“Completely serious, poor Digimon was trying so hard and kept getting rejected. He was close to tears,” she said gently before cheering up. “So helping you with French shouldn’t be a problem! Especially since I came back from France two weeks ago.” She placed her arms on the table and leaned closer to him. “So, what are we working on?”
Arata sighed, “You are without a doubt, the most random person I have ever met.”
“Why thank you!”
He couldn’t help but laugh, “You are so weird. Have you been drinking?”
The female grabbed his homework and pulled it in front of her so she could look at it, “I haven’t touched anything, not even the water. Part of the responsibilities I carry as a designated driver.”
“So you act like this everyday?”
“Mhm. What’s your assignment?”
“Translating these words written down into French,” Arata said pointing to the words already written in japanese.
“Well, chicken is poulet -”
“Where do you see chicken?”
The female pointed to the top word, “Isn’t that what it's saying right there?”
“That’s chair.”
“How does that spell chair? It looks like chicken!”
“It’s chair.”
“Your handwriting sucks,” she deadpanned. “Chair is chaise.”
“I just need the spellings, pre-week work.”
“What dictionary are you using?”
“That book there that’s underneath my notebook.”
The female looked at it before with a slight glare. “I’m only doing this to help,” she said flipping his notebook over. “How well are you with English?”
“Good enough to know their alphabet.”
“Okay, listen to me now,” the female said writing. “Don’t expect me to do this everytime but I’m doing it this once. Go to the bookstore in Nakano Broadway. Tell the lady standing outside that I sent you to pick up a book about the french language. I’ll let her know tomorrow morning over what book I’m talking about. It’s a dictionary but a much easier to read and understand dictionary.”
“Hey, Sanada!” someone yelled causing him to get distracted as he looked to the right. So he didn’t notice the female writing something down on the bottom of the paper. He did hear something rip but he didn’t pay it much mind. “You should learn to liven up! Have a drink!”
“No, thank you,” Arata said.
“There,” the female said standing up and giving him his almost completed homework. “I think I figured out your handwriting if not than the dictionary will help.”
“Wow, thanks,” Arata spoke as she pushed her chair in.
“I gotta go, my friends are staggering,” she said. She bent down and kissed his cheek, “Good luck!”
Arata watched in pure shock as the lady left gathering her friends to leave. “We never introduced ourselves.”
   2.
Weeks later and it was final exam time before winter break. Arata was struggling with French and was flipping through both dictionaries when he noticed a piece of paper in his older dictionary. “What the?” He grabbed it and unfolded it.
Bonjour sir,
Hopefully by now, you know bonjour means hello. Anyway, if you ever need help in french or any subject except for math, call me. I’ll be more than happy to help. Down below is my number.
“Well that explains why that paper was torn,” he said to himself dialing the number that was in the letter. He needed help and why would he refuse the help of a pretty lady who is offering and has been haunting his mind lately too.”
It rang and rang, but there was no answer. Arata hung up and shook his head. Why did he even bother trying? It was possibly a fake -
Ring, Ring
He answered the call on his digivice (after jumping) and he was not expecting the mysterious lady to appear in a holographic image. Her red hair was wet sticking to her face and she was wearing a yellow-one piece swimsuit.
“Sorry, sorry. I was trying to get to my digivice sooner but was swimming, obviously,” she said apologizing before she finally took notice over who called her. “Ah! It’s you!”
“Yes, it’s me. Where do you live that has a pool?”
“I’m at a gym that has an indoor pool. I don’t live here however. So what’s the nature of this call that I was hoping to get sooner?”
“If you wanted this call sooner, than you shouldn’t have put that note in the terrible dictionary. The dictionary you recommended, complete lifesaver by the way.”
“I figured it would.”
“Anyway, I called wanting to know if you would be willingly to help me steady for the final exam, Ms. -”
She stuck her tongue out making a ‘phbth’ sound, “Please none of that Ms. Stuff. Aiba Ami. Ami, preferably.”
“Very well Ami, so would you be willing to help me study for my final exam?”
“I would love to but I’m afraid. I don’t know your name,” Ami spoke.
“Sanada Arata.”
“Okay, Sanada,” Ami said. “Where and what time would you like to meet up?”
“Will EDEN work?”
“Yes, that is if you don’t mind Digimon. I can easily create a private forum for it,” Ami explained.
“I forgot you implied you was a hacker.”
“Cyber sleuth, preferably,” Ami spoke with a smile. “I’ll send you the link when its finish.”
She hung up leaving Arata there confused again. “Cyber sleuth?”
He signed into EDEN heading towards Kowloon and proceeded to hack into his own account getting the digital copies of his french dictionaries and notes. He received a message with a link from Ami and looked at his Keramon. “You ready to make new friends?”
They appeared at the EDEN forum, Arata noticing a basketball court in the corner but then a noise from Keramon caused him to look at his digimon and see a Terriermon and Palmon hugging it.
“Terriermon, Palmon, come back here,” he heard Ami say in front of him. He looked at her and noticed that a Hagurumon was trying to hide behind her. She rubbed her head with sigh, “I know you're excited to make a new friend but you might scare them away.” The two digimon let go of Keramon and went back to Ami.
“You have three Digimon,” Arata commented.
“Three ambitious Digimon,” Ami said. “Go and play basketball. That includes you Haugarmon.”
Keramon looked at Arata, “Go right ahead.” Keramon joined the three in the basketball court. “So a cyber sleuth?”
“Basically a cyber detective,” Ami said. “What do you need help studying with?”
“Pronunciations, I have the spelling and meanings memorized so I’m good with the written part of the test. It’s the oral part I’m worried about.”
“Do you have a conversation with the teacher privately?”
“Yes, and we can guide the conversation.”
“Perfect! We can practice a conversation until you have it memorized or until I get called into work,” Ami commented.
“I need to use twenty of the words on the list,” Arata commented ignoring the call into work statement. He hopes it doesn’t happen.
Ami looked at the list that he handed her, “No worries! With the conversation I have planned, you’ll use forty.”
“Are you kidding me?”
“Nope, so shall we start?”
They were at it for about fifteen minutes, Ami helping Araat pronounce the words he was having troubles with which wasn’t that the many, when her digivice went off signalling a call. She answered it and Arata assumed that the long blonde hair lady was her boss.
“I hate to do this to you Ami, but Matayoshi and I finally believe we know where your friend Sakura and some other girls are gathering. Can you come to the office ASAP?”
“Yep,” Ami said before the call ended. She looked at Arata sadly. “I’m sorry to have to do this you, but you have it mostly perfect.”
“Thank you, it feels like a natural conversation too,” Arata commented.
“Let me see your hand real quick,” Ami said getting up as her Digimon waited at the portal. Arata showed her his hand and watched as she flip it over and proceeded to give a kiss to his hand.
“It’s weird, I know, but it’s an Atlantean gesture for good luck,” Ami said.
“Atlanian?” Arata asked confused as she ran to the logout portal. “You don’t mean Atlantis, do you?”
“You know your cultures,” Ami said chuckling as she logged out.
“Atlantis culture doesn’t exist,” Arata grumbled looking at his hand, “Atlantis doesn’t exist in the first place!”
   3.
Months passed since Arata aced his french final exam and proceeded to hang out with Ami as a friend instead of a study partner and got to see her more. She always seemed to have a smile on her face and willingly to help him with any of his strange activities. His mom thinks he’s changed due to her, he doesn’t see the signs she’s referring too.
He answered the call from her, one of the few to have a special ringtone on his digivice. “Hello.”
“Hi, are you busy?” Ami questioned.
“Not particularly, trying to do my geography homework. Why my teacher wants us to know the locations of the states within USA is beyond me. Why?”
“Well, if you like, I can help you with your geography homework if you would be so kind as to help me with my writing assignment. It will possibly require you to spend the night as well. Again, that is if you don’t mind.”
“Why do you need my help with writing? My handwriting sucks, remember?”
Ami laughed. “It still does but it has improved.” She held up a DVD case of an anime show that used to be popular until it ended. It still has its fans like Arata who recognized the show even though it ended. “I need to watch half of this series and find five difference between the magna books and the show. I haven’t read the books -”
“What makes you think I have?” Arata questioned.
“You showed me a picture of you in a cosplay outfit and told me that after you saw the first episode, you binged read the books,” Ami responded. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have picked this series.”
“So you was listening,” Arata said. “Of course I’ll help you. You helped me out so many times with my own homework.”
“Yay! Thank you so much,” Ami said happily. “If you want, you can meet me at Nakano Broadway around 5. That’s when I get off and I live in the apartments above the businesses here.”
“5 won’’t work since I need to let Mom know where I’ll be at when she gets home at 6:30.”
“What time will work good for you than?”
“7:30.”
“Great, I’ll meet you in front of the tea house than,” Ami said. “Before I forget, thank you for the help.”
It was going on 3 in the morning when they finally got to the halfway point in the series. A little after they got done watching it and Ami filled out her homework papers for it, Arata fell asleep on the couch when she got up to make more coffee.
When she saw that he was asleep, she smiled and went to go get him a spare blanket and laid it over him. She placed a lingering kiss on his forehead.
“Good night Sanada,” she whispered before heading to her bedroom and crawling into bed.
She couldn’t sleep that night due to her mind and heart having a conversation about her quickly becoming best friend.
   4.
Three years later, Arata now a freshmen at college, Ami a senior at her school and they were still friends. Their mostly mutual friends often joke that you’ll find one of them with the other in their spare time. Ami just laughs it off while Arata shakes his head at their teasing. It’s usually Ami visiting him at his work in her spare time, especially since it is hard for him to balance between college and work. It was hard when he first had a job in high school, trying to help his mother with groceries and bills, but now with the cost of college along with rising prices, they were struggling.
It didn’t help that he entered college with a half scholarship to cover the intuition but his mom was determined for Arata to follow his dreams which is hard when he wants to be a government hacker.
He came home early from college, his last class getting cancelled and his boss ordered him to enjoy a day off. However, when he got home, he saw his mom passed out on the floor, his brain just shut down, letting his instincts take over and once his brain came back on, he was sitting down in the Emergency Room waiting room.
“Crap,” Arata said leaning his head back against the wall. “I have a strong fear of hospitals, close to a phobia of them, plus whatever the expenses of this - Shit! Mom!”
He went up to the desk and asked the tired nurse about his mom, “I’m sorry sir, I don’t have the power to check the status of your mother when our servers are down.”
“Just my luck,” Arata grumbled.
“Arata,” he heard Ami’s voice ask. He looked over to see Ami holding onto a cup carrier filled with coffee cups. “What are you doing here?”
“I found my mother passed out and I don’t even know how long it's been,” Arata said as she walked over to him. “You?”
“Besides coming back from getting coffee?” Ami questioned. “I’m here for three reasons. Work, work related issues, and volunteer services for school.”
“Aren’t you way passed the volunteer services required for your school?” Arata questioned as they walked back to the waiting room.
Ami nodded, “Yes, but the more volunteer hours I complete than the higher scholarship i receive. I’m going for the very difficult scholarship that only three people received before.”
“How many more hours do you need?”
“Ten, I was going to get the majority of it done today, but I can get them done tomorrow,” Ami said grabbing one of the coffee cups and handing it to him. “Here, have my coffee. I’m going to drop these off to their respective people.”
Arata took the coffee and looked at it, “Thank but -”
“It’s purple mermaid, I had planned on trying it but since I’m giving it to you, tell me how it is. I know this may sound weird but would you like to help me type up reports?” Ami asked as he took a sip.
“What type of reports?”
“Case file reports,” Ami explained. “I’ve been busy doing volunteer services and taking up a lot of Digimon lost property cases. Date is unable to do her duties so I’m taking them and adding them to my volunteer work.”
“You’re behind in paperwork in other words,” Arata said with a smirk.
“You have no idea how far behind I am,” Ami said with a sheepish smile.
“And you are asking me to help to help me get my mind off of everything that is going on in my mind,” Arata said taking another drink.
“I am unsure if it’s scary that you know me so well or that I know you so well. So what do you say?”
“I say you have weird taste in coffee but this isn’t too bad,” Arata commented looking at the cup before looking back at Ami. “It’s not like I have anything better to do as I wait, but how will you -”
“My grandfather works here, I can ask to borrow his laptop,” Ami explained. Her digivice beeped and she groaned without looking at it. “It’s Kyoko, wondering why she hasn’t received her coffee. I need to go. I’ll be back.”
Ami walked away and once she was out of Arata’s eyesight, she made a call. “Grandfather, I know what I would like for my birthday and all of the holiday presents this year.”
Arata let out a sigh as she stared back at the coffee cup in his hands. “So caring and kind, yet not once do you consider about yourself. Too bad soon, you’ll be thousands of miles apart.”
Arata knew for a while that he’s had a crush on Ami, but with her getting accepted into high prestigious colleges, he didn’t want to hold her back.
~~Hours Later~~
The sun was close to letting the night sky be just the moon and Arata’s mom was put into critical care unit, she was awake and responsive but a Dr. Mori wanted her there so if something came back from the MRI or if she passed out again, help would be right there. They were in the process of getting her room ready so the two teenagers were in the waiting area.
Ami put her digivice away as she watched Arata pace around in the waiting room, “Arata, go home.
“Go home? Ami! My mother is-”
“Staying in the hospital,” Ami said standing up. “She’ll be fine. She’s in good hands.”
Arata stopped pacing and glared at her, “Why don’t you go home? You don’t seem like you care,” Arata snapped at her. “Why would you worry about her? You don’t know her!”
“Just because I don’t know her, doesn’t mean I don’t care,” Ami responded getting close to Arata, not afraid of him as her blue eyes shine brighter with anger. “I know how much she means to you! Of course I’m going to care! I care about her as much as I care about you!”
“If this is your way of showing me pity-”
“Pity?” Ami asked poking the taller teen’s chest somehow backing him against the wall in the small alcove they were in to where the public eye couldn’t see them unless they were looking. “You think I am giving you pity? I am far from it! You know that I am jealous of the relationship you have with your mother while mine is always abroad!”
“Yeah, right, then why are you so concerned about my mother, who you have never met!”
Ami stood on her tiptoes, leaning against his body as she grabbed his face and proceeded to kiss the taller teenager, surprising him and shutting down his surprised mind. She let go of his face as she pulled away from the kiss and buried her head in his chest going back down to the flat of her feet, “I’m more concerned about you,” she said softly in a whisper, barely audible to the taller teen.
“Ami-” Arata spoke softly back, afraid that the weird bubble that was around them was going to burst.
The bubble did burst as she moved away from him, anger leading to determination in her eyes. “I’m going to head towards the cafeteria and get something eat. When I return, you had better be on your way home. Do I make myself clear?”
“Ami-”
“Do I make myself clear?” Ami repeated sternly leaving Arata with no room to argue with his determined and angry friend.
“Yes.”
“Good, now since we are on the same page, Matayoshi should still be here and possibly getting ready to leave. I’ll send him a message to wait for you at the entrance. If you aren’t there within ten minutes, he’ll hunt you down,” Ami explained. “Your mother will be okay Arata, I promise.”
Arata went out to grab her before she walked away but she was already heading towards the cafeteria when Matayoshi came around the corner, “Hey, Sanada, you ready?”
He should have known that Ami planned ahead, she knows he hates hospitals so she had a plan to make him leave. It was one of the habits she picked up from Kyoko.
The next morning, he walked into his mother’s room after talking to his boss and his teachers, letting them know about his mom’s situation. He saw his mother eating breakfast as she noticed him, “Morning, Arata, I knew Ami was a sweet girl, but I didn’t realize how sweet she is. Did you two have a fight?”
“Yes, we did,” Arata said sitting his bag down before looking strangely at his mother. “Where did this come from?”
He followed her gaze to the chair in the corner of the room that was behind the little storage closet the room had and saw Ami curled up in the chair, a thin blanket over her, asleep.
“She fell asleep fifteen minutes ago, but she’s been with me all night. She told me about how she forced you to head home last night. Kudos to her, I would’ve done the same thing and I’m the patient!”
Arata shook his head. This isn’t how he wanted them to meet, but he was grateful for Ami staying with his mom. He really wasn’t looking forward to when she’ll be thousands of miles away especially after she kissed him last night, which he was still surprised about.
Three days after his mother returned from the hospital, Arata was checking his email when he noticed Ami had sent him two emails. He read the one that was sent yesterday.
Hey Arata,
Sorry if I couldn’t be there with you today, but I got my volunteer hours done! Anyway if you receive an email within the next week from jpnschoolfund.gov, don’t delete it! It’s not a scam or anything, it’s the main reason as to why I was doing so many volunteer hours. How’s your mother doing? Well, take care of her and that dance I invited you too, I can understand if you don’t show up. I won’t be mad. Tell your mom hi from me.
From Ami.
“What the hell? Why would she do all of that volunteer work for me? What dance?” Arata questioned to himself confused. He instantly clicked on the next email from Ami that he received on the day his mother was submitted into the hospital.
Arata,
My school is having a mostly informal dance and everyone has the choice to bring one person in it. If you like, you can join me in this dance’s ‘I really don’t want to be here’ crew. If you do arrive, you can wear nice street clothes unlike me who has to wear a dress (Damn my need to overachieve and earn a lot of awards). ((I’m also forced to wear heels! HEELS! They are just begging me to make a fool out of myself. I’ve even taken up practices with Nokia and I don’t have a clue over how she can wear them all the time.)) So, if you’ll like to come arrive anywhere from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM. Tell the person you are Aiba’s plus one. Oh, I forgot the date didn’t I? It’s a week from now.
I hope to see you there, Ami.
He looked over at the date and time and cussed, it was almost nine and this was a perfect opportunity to talk to her. He hasn’t been able to reach her and they’ve both been busy, but he didn’t want to leave his mother alone. Not when she’s still recovering.
“Arata,” his mom spoke loudly so he could hear her in the kitchen. “Can you come here?”
“On my way,” he responded.
Ami was sitting at a circular table, playing an invisible game of tic-tac-toe against herself. She truly didn’t want to be here anymore, they got all the pictures they needed and got the award ceremony done, so she didn’t understand as to why anyone who got over 10,000 volunteer hours to stay here until closing or for those who received the highest grades or in the student council had to wear formal attire. She looked at the nearby dance floor and saw Ryota and Sakura dancing together while Nokia was busy flirting with the single men.
“I guess by the end of the month, I’ll know if I’m going to the college I wish to go to or not,” Ami said to herself as she proceeded to play another imaginary game of tic-tac-toe.
She surprisingly wanted to go to the local community college, to stay close by to her friends, to stay with her job, and a certain otaku friend of hers. Her mom wanted her to go to a prestigious college for journalism to follow into her footsteps, but Ami wanted to stay as a detective. Either way, her way would be paid thanks to all the volunteer hours. She just hopes she didn’’t ruin her friendship.
Arata entered the gym, looking for anything that he could give him a sign that it was Ami. A young woman wearing a little black dress with black hair approached him, a seductive smile on her lips as her blue eyes checked Arata out who was wearing a purple satin buttoned up shirt and black dress pants. “Can I help you with anything Mr.?”
“Thanks, but no thanks,” Arata said seeing Nokia not to far away.
“Well, if you like I - where are you going?”
“To be honest, I don’t know you nor do I want to know you. Save your breath for the next guy,” Arata commented. He quickly went to Nokia who just got done convincing a guy to get her some punch. “Nokia! Where’s Ami?”
“Huh? Geeta? What are you doing here?” Nokia questioned.
Arata chose to ignore the stupid nickname she gave him. “Ami, where is she?”
“She’s closer to the dancefloor,” Nokia replied pointing. “See the red hair of the one wearing the purple dress sitting down? That’s her.”
“Thanks,” Arata said before heading towards Ami.
Ami felt hands on her shoulders, causing her to sit up correctly only for a voice to speak into her ear, “We need to talk.”
“Arata! What are you doing here?” Ami questioned looking at him as he let go of her shoulders.
“I came to join the ‘I don’t want to be here’ crew,” Arata answered with a smirk. The music started to play a song slow. “May I have this dance?”
“Of course,” Ami said grabbing his offered hand before he led her to the dance floor. “You look nice.”
“Thank you, I would have worn a tuxedo if I had one,” Arata spoke finally seeing the purple one shoulder dress that had gems in the shoulder and around her waist. “You look beautiful by the way.”
“Shut it, no I don’t. I feel uncomfortable in this,” Ami said.
Arata shook his head, he came here to talk and neither of them were going to get side-tracked. “We need to talk,” he said looking at her curled hair. “You actually have some explaining to do.”
“Oh?” Ami questioned as Arata spun her around. “Is it going to cause us to have another fight?”
“I don’t think so. Is there a reason you haven’t answered your digivice?”
“Sakura has it hostage until after tonight. Thinks I’ll enjoy this event more.”
“I see,” Arata said. “And the reason as to why my mom’s medical bill is only 500 yen is because -”
“I have zero idea over what you are talking about,” Ami said.
“So, the email my mother got saying that you asked for Dr. Mori - your grandfather - to take over most of my mother’s hospital bill -”
“He was supposed to send the bill to me, not to you two,” Ami said. “I will take responsibility for it through.”
“You are too kind for this world, you know that?” Arata asked chuckling. “But, thank you. Thank you for staying with those nights.”
“It was no problem, I was going to be staying at the hospital anyway,” she said as she looked up at him. “I told you that your mother was in good hands.”
“That you did, but one more question,” Arata said, “before the song ends.” Ami tilted her head. “Well two. The lady in the black, is there a reason as to why she’s glaring at you?”
“In her mind, yes, to me, no. It’s a long story.”
“I hope I’m going to hear about it but more importantly, where are the heels? You are exactly the same height as always.”
“Underneath the table, they are Nokia’s, but why?” Ami questioned as the song, plus their dance ended.
“Simple, we’re leaving after this dance,” Arata said before whispering into her ear. “Neither of us wants to be here.”
“But-”
“C’mon,” Arata interrupted with a smirk, “break the rules. We already broke the law together.”
Ami smiled and nodded her head, “They don’t need me anymore anyway.” The song ended. “Follow me.”
Arata followed Ami as they exited the school through the back entrance making sure no one saw them before they left the school grounds, Ami laughing at the whole ordeal. “Thanks for getting me out of there.”
“Gladly, are you hungry?” Arata questioned as they walked in no particular direction.
“I am starving but I am not eating in this dress,” Ami commented. “How’s your mother?”
“She’s doing better, congratulations on your volunteer hours, so why was you working so hard?”
They stopped by the park, Arata knowing it was a shortcut to both of their places. “You’ll find out soon,” Ami said getting ready to face the elephant between them. She turned her body around to face Arata directly. “Look, Arata, about that kiss-”
Arata turned around quickly, grabbing her waist loosely, bent down to her level, and kissed her. Arata was slightly disappointed that she didn’t stay surprise but enjoyed the way her arms wrapped around his neck and how she kissed back.
He pulled away from her and rested his forehead against hers, “I don’t want to hold you back from going to the college of your choice, but I really can’t stand the reality of not having you here to somehow brighten my day. Please tell me that the kiss was unintentional or that you didn’t mean it.”
“I meant the kiss, Arata. Besides, there is no need for you to worry. The college that I want to go to isn’t to far from here. I can visit on the weekends, breaks, and holidays.” Ami kept the fact that he’ll see her everyday, she thinks he could use the surprise.
Arata let out a sigh of relief, “I’ve been wanting to be your boyfriend for a while, but I didn’t think I could handle the distance. I was willing to give it a shot after that kiss in the hospital.”
   Bonus.
Arata was running late on his first day of being a sophomore in college. He turned the corner taking a wide turn. “I really need to practice my turns,” Arata grumbled distractedly. This was not how he wanted to start the college year where he didn’t have to worry about paying any of his college years, thanks to Ami and all of her hard work.
He took another wide turn and bumped into one, almost two people. “Sorry, sorry,” Arata said as he heard an ‘oof’.
“Sheesh, smooth moves Arata,” he heard Nokia say.
“It’s okay,” the person who landed on the floor said with a small giggle. “At least now I can officially say I fell for him.”
“Ami!” Arata said surprise as the voice registered in his mind and as she got up off of the floor. “What are you doing here?”
“I said the same thing,” Nokia said.
“I’m going to college here, oh by the way, do you know where the Kappa statue is at?”
“It used to be in this building but they moved it to the new library building,” Arata said.
“Thanks,” Ami said with a smile before Nokia grabbed her wrist.
“Score! Let’s hurry back to the teachers!” Nokia said dragging Ami away.
Arata went through three classes before he finally got a break and went to the now library and common building, the idea that Ami is at his college had him distracted. He was happy about it, who wouldn’t be happy about it, but she had the grades and resources to go to a prestigious college. Even with her full ride scholarship to any school that she wanted from all of her volunteer hours, why did she chose here?
“Arata!” he heard Nokia yell and he looked in her direction to see her sitting on one of the grey plush chairs. “Over here!”
He walked over only for the mere fact that Ami was over there as well, sitting on one of the grey chairs. He sat his bag down by hers and looked at her. “Move.”
“Hey!” Mamoru spoke sitting across from the two girls, another sophomore at the college. Arata and Mamoru have had classes together so they are acquainted with each other. “She doesn’t have to move. She was here first.”
“Mamoru,” Arata greeted as Ami moved off of the chair. Arata sat down and pulled Ami onto his lap, a smirk on his face. “She prefers my lap.”
“Aw, look at the two love birds,” Nokia coed as Ami laughed and sat sideways on Arata’s lap, his arms circling her waist. “Honestly, you two are totes adorbs!”
“You two are dating?” Mamaro asked.
“Yep, and someone owes me an explanation over why she’s going to school here,” Arata said looking at Ami. “I’m not complaining.”
“Well, with a sweetie like Ami, you really can’t,” Nokia said.
Ami placed a kiss on her boyfriend’s cheek and whispered, “You.”

Kai: Hey, your girlfriend’s contacts are here.
Arata: I have no idea what you are talking about.
Arata went back to his searching, he was trying to find a lead on a case for Nokia. She actually gave them a good one this time. Ami had today off but after three months of living with her, he knows she’s typing up all the reports the two of them did in the week. He loves working and living with her, she was quite a busy lady and he was having a hard time keeping up with her.
Kai: The red hair babe you are with 85% of the time.
Arata: Ami.
Kai: Her contacts came in today. How is she not your girlfriend?
Arata couldn’t answer because of guilt. He had so much to feel guilty about with Ami, he could write a book over it.
Arata: Because she doesn’t like me.
Kai: You need the contacts more than her.
Arata: What do you mean by that?
Kai: She’s head over heels in love with you man. It’s obvious!
Arata: Haha, be serious.
There is no way that Ami could ever, ever, love him. He ruined her life the first time they met in EDEN. There is no going back to change that. He tried that to get Yuugo back and he really doesn’t want another punch from Ami.
Kai: Whatever dude.
Arata: I’ll pick up her contacts in an hour.
Ami was sitting on the brown couch, her laptop sitting on her lap as her black eyes with slivers of blue, green, yellow, purple, and red moving around like it was tracking something, the biggest sliver was the red. All of the colors were remnants of the Digimon who she cared for as a family, a part of them that helped her get back into physical body, her data.
She leaned her head back against the couch, her eyes closed in concentration. She was trying to think of ways for Arata to quit feeling guilty. Her instinct kept telling her that showing him her eyes would push him away, something which she doesn’t want. Than again, their friendship is full of surprises. She hugged him, told him her fears, surprising him, than upon seeing her and Kyoko, he hugged her surprising her only for her to surprise him by telling him she was still partially data.
Seriously, Ami needed advice and Alphamon wasn’t the best person to go to for advice, but there was no one else. She can’t go up to her friends and be like ‘Hey, I like Arata romantically but I don’t know if he likes me back but I do know he’s letting the guilt over my situation eat him alive’.
Yeah, that wouldn’t go well if someone outside of their circle of friends who remember Digimon.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you so deep in thought,” Arata’s voice said from above her. “Or I’ve never seen you take a nap either.”
Her eyes snapped open seeing Arata leaning over her a little, his grey eyes went from being playful to shock. She let out a sigh and sat up. “You’re home early.” Too late to try and ease him about the truth of her eyes.
“Kyoko told me to close the office early, plus I got your contacts.” Arata said. “What’s with your eyes?”
“How did - you have a friend that works there, never mind.”
“Eyes,” Arata said.
“That’s the only part of me that’s data,” Ami explained. “The eye colors of my Digimon, who helped me return. The reason as to why I wear contacts.” She looked over at Arata, he was taking this all too easily.
Arata sat down next to her on the couch, “That’s all?”
“Physically, yes, why?” Ami questioned.
“Than it’s not that bad! Different and weird, yes. That’s a normal for you however. So why am I seeing them today?”
“You seem pretty calm over this,” Ami said.
“Your eyes are the only data, you wear contacts to hide them. I was thinking you’ll be wearing a cape or something with data, you could be a giant pink dragon in disguise. I can handle eyes, besides it’s a sign you accept the past. Something in which I should’ve done.”
“None of us have control over the past, no matter how hard we try,” Ami said.
“True, so why am I seeing them today?”
“I ran out of contacts, complete accident,” Ami said. She wasn’t happy about it, she wanted to give him a bit of warning.
“You’re kidding me. That’s the occasion?”
“Yep.”
“Airhead!”
Ami looked at him sharply before giving him a slight nudge, “Watch it. You know I don’t like seeing you feel so guilty over something that I chose!”
Arata looked at her, “I will always feel guilty about it. I can’t change that. However, I can accept the present. And presently, I want a movie to watch.”
Night came, Arata was asleep on Ami’s lap, his head resting on her legs as he took up the couch. Ami ran her fingers through his hair, trying to figure out why exactly he took her eyes so easily.
“I believe I have fallen hopelessly in love with you, Arata,” Ami said to the sleeping teenager. “I don’t want to be in a relationship with you if your guilt is directing your actions. It will only lead to arguments and misunderstandings.
Ami leaned in and placed a small kiss on his forehead. “When will you understand that the past and the mistakes you made and will make, is all a part of you? The you that doesn’t deserve to have all the guilt on his shoulders because none of us knew the consequences.”

Chapter 3 - Chase
Arata scrunched his nose up as something soft touched his nose. He heard giggles trying to be quiet, but he knew who it was. “What do you want, Nokia?”
“No fun!” Nokia whined as Arata opened one eye to look at her. “You was supposed to snap awake and freak out.”
“Nice try,” Arata spoke. “How did you get in?”
“Ami gave me her key. About time you broke up with Emi,” Nokia commented as Arata sat up.
“How did-”
“Besides the fact that Ami let you stay in her apartment? Emi called looking for you. Once I heard that, I ran over here to tell Ami, and she already knew. Emi is furious with you.”
“Don’t care. I told her it was over explained as to why it was over.”
“She’s more mad because you deactivated your Faceyear page so she was already single before you broke up with her,” Nokia spoke. Arata just looked at her, uncaring. “You know, it’s not official unless it is on Faceyear.”
“I mostly left Faceyear so her ex would quit bothering me. He can have her again, if he so chooses,” Arata said shaking his head.
“So, when are you going to ask Ami out?”
“Excuse me?”
Nokia crossed her arms, “Do I need to speak slowly? When are you going to ask Ami out?”
“Keep your voice down, idiot,” Arata hissed. “You do realize if I ask her now, she’ll think I’m using her to get back at Emi?”
“It was just a question,” Nokia said with a huff. “It didn’t have to be right now.”
The door opened and the Kamishiro twins entered the apartment with two boxes. “Where’s Ami?” Yuuko wondered as she slid her shoes off, Yuugo doing the same.
“At work, she said she’ll be done shortly,” Nokia answered.
“So, is it true?” Yuuko asked as she sat her box down. “That you broke up with Emi and temporarily moving in with Ami?”
“Yes,” Arata answered warily. “Who told you?”
“Kyoko,” Yuugo responded sitting his own box down. “Heck, Kyoko has even talked to the ones who manage the apartments here and added you onto Ami’s lease. Ami did try to talk Kyoko out of it, but she wouldn’t listen.”
“It isn’t like it matters,” his sister spoke next. “In three months, Ami’s lease is up and she’s moving into another apartment here. So when are you going to be asking Ami out?”
“None of you,” Arata growled out each word slowly, “are going to hear about any crushes that I have, ever again.” He took a deep breath. “It won’t be for a while, I don’t think she even likes me like that.”
“You are wrong,” Yuuko spoke. “Maybe she got tired of chasing and is waiting to be chased?”
Nokia and Arata just looked at her, “What are you talking about?”
Her brother answered her question, “I doubt it. I have watched her when I was the main Eater. Ami isn’t someone who is going to sit by and wait. She’ll be productive some way, it might not be towards the goal that she wants, but she’ll be productive.”
“Huh?” Nokia asked confused. “What?”
Yuuko thought about it, “I think you are right. Especially since Nokia and I had to take care of Ami once before when she got sick.”
“We did?” Nokia questioned.
“When Arata foolishly decided to become an Eater,” Yuuko explained. “Ami didn’t just wait around until Arata came back. She worked herself to death if Alphamon didn’t step up and told her to stop.”
Arata could see the lightbulb going off in Nokia’s head, “Oh, yeah!” Nokia said remembering. “Mirel allowed us into the Digi-Lab and onto Ami’s Digi-farms, just so we could take care her properly - with her being data and all that.”
“Digi-lab? Do you know what, nevermind. Why was she working so hard?” Arata asked.
“She was trying to find a lead to your whereabouts,” Yuuko said. “Do you honestly think she wanted to punch you?”
“Enough gloomy talk!” Nokia said. “You should open the boxes and praise us with grace!”
“Who is getting praise?” Ami asked coming into her own apartment.
“Ami!” Nokia yelled and hugged the former cyber sleuth, rubbing her face against Ami’s cheek. “I was so worried about you last night since I never recieved a message stating you was home.”
Arata raised an eyebrow but the Kamishiro siblings rolled their eyes.
“Did you check your digivice by chance?” Ami wondered.
“Yes!” Nokia said going to check her digivice. “Wait, I have a Digi-line.”
As Nokia checked her message from Ami, Yuuko spoke, “Why don’t we all hang out? It’s been a whille since the five of us hung out together.”
“As much as I would love too, I’m going to pass,” Ami answered right before she sneezed into her shirt. “I only got twenty minutes of sleep in me so I plan on taking a nap.”
“You sound like you are a catching a cold,” Yuugo spoke thoughtfully.
“Haha, I’ll be fine,” Ami said with a smile.
“I can’t either today,” Arata spoke. “I need to get my overnight bag from a friend’s house,” Arata commented.
“The three of us can make plans for the five of us to hang out all day sometime than,” Yuugo said.
“Nokia, I swear if you come into my room while I’m sleeping and try to wake me up, the next time Jimi Ken owes me some favors, I will not use them to get you tickets to his show,” Ami threatened as she went to her room, closing the door.
Nokia frowned, “No fair!”
“You was walking on thin ice,” Yuuko said. “Besides, what do you see in his song?”
“How many times must we have this conversation?” Nokia asked.
“Yeah, well, this time we are discussing it over ice cream!” Yuuko said dragging Nokia away leaving the two men there smiling at their antics.
“You should open the boxes,” Yuugo prompted once the girls left.
“Why? What’s in there?” Arata questioned.
“You’ll find out once you open it,” Yuugo said.
Arata opened the box and stared, his eyes going wide. Yuugo liked Ami’s expression and reaction more of being surprised.
“How?”
“When you had us help you pack so you could move in with Emi. We could tell you didn’t want to let go of 85% of the things you said to donate. The figurines are underneath your clothing and the other box is your books.”
Arata looked through the clothing before frowning. “Did you donate my white jacket?”
“We gave it away, yes,” Yuugo responded smoothly while also sending a mental apologize to Ami. “My sister believed one of her friends needed it.”
“I see. Well, as long as it went to a good home than,” Arata said with a sigh.
Yuugo made a mental note to tell the others to change their wallpaper picture on their digivice so Arata wouldn’t see what friend has the missing white jacket. Ami doesn’t even know that the picture Nokia took was sent to his sister and himself.
It was later in the day when Arata came back to Ami’s apartment after getting his overnight bag. When he entered the apartment, he instantly dropped the bag so he could take off of his coat, the rain was still coming down like it was early this morning.
“Ami?” he called out not seeing the red hair friend anywhere.
“Kitchen,” she responded blankly.
Arata walked into the kitchen and saw Ami sitting on the counter, a black mug held tightly in her hands even through they were shaking, steam was rising out of the mug. Her blue eyes were glazed over but she moved her eyes to look at him.
“You okay?” he asked walking closer to her.
“I made hot chocolate,” Ami said moving her head to look at the kettle on the stove.
Arata stood in front of her now. “That isn’t what I asked you,” he said causing her to look at him.
“I’m not going to bother you with my demons,” Ami said looking down at her hot chocolate. “Not when you need someone to lean on.”
Arata narrowed his eyes at her, “Ami, I know I can always lean on you, no matter how small my problem is.” Ami blankly watched as he removed her mug from her hands and sitting it off to the side. “Don’t make me tickle you.”
Ami looked up in surprise and stared at him, her eyes focusing on her situation. She was trapped on the counter, no where to escape with him standing in front of her.
He smirked and lightly tapped his chin in mock thought, “You know, I think I will tickle you anyway.”
Ami got down from the counter and tried to get away but Arata was quicker. He grabbed her sides and started moving his fingers against her sides, moving in between the bones of her ribcage, a senstive area on her.
She tried to escape as she laughed from being tickled, struggling against Arata’s grip but every time she got so close to escaping, he pulled her back in. Arata smiled as her laughter filled the walls of the apartment. Her laugh was very much like her personality, it always seemed to brighten up the atmosphere, the mood of those around her, and always made the day seem better. Even now, Arata didn’t think that the dreary, rainy weather was all that bad now.
Than again, any time he hung out with Ami on days like today, it never seemed like it was a dreary, rainy day. That was just how she was even with all of the horrors that she’s seen, she was so bright and warm.
“Uncle! Uncle! Mercy! Mercy!” Ami cried out as she laughed. Arata stopped tickling her but never let her go. “I’ll tell you, as much as I don’t want too, but I’ll tell you.”
Arata did let her go now and she quickly scampered away from him, trying to catch her breath. He waited patiently as she took her time to compose herself. He knew it wasn’t that serious since she wasn’t trying to kick him out.
“Just for that,” Ami said, “you’re helping me clean out the guest bedroom.”
Arata blinked and followed Ami to the guest bedroom. He shook his head upon seeing the room having most of his stuff already laid out the way he would have it. “What do you need my help with? You even decorated it for me to fit my taste.”
“Closet,” Ami said. “Remember, you are taller than me. You can reach stuff on higher shelves than me.”
Arata shook his head again and went to the closet, “How did you even get the stuff up there?”
“Step-stool. Just hand me the boxes and I’ll set them down before I start moving them to my bedroom,” Ami instructered.
Arata did as he was told with a sigh. It wasn’t until three boxes were left when Ami spoke. “My last case I worked, the trial ended today.” Arata looked at Ami. “This lady was so mad that her twins were taken away by the government. So, she started kidnapping children around the same age as her twins, torturing them, breaking their mentality and spirit, before killing them. She had EVERYTHING planned out, Arata. Everything. She did so much research on the children, who their grandparents are, what they did, their parents, their dreams, their hobbies, their friends, and even did research on their friends family. Than when she had them, she planned out what to say to them, what their reactions would be, how they will break.”
“A little girl keeps haunting me now, it’s been two months since I worked on a case, two weeks ago, is when the trial started for all the children that have been killed. More children haunted me before, when the case was fresh into mind, but the girl, she hasn’t left me yet. I doubt she’ll ever leave me. She’s the reason Kyoko moved me to be her personal assassitant and social media assassitant, I couldn’t live with what I did to her.”
Arata watched as she broke down, dropping to her knees, her hands covering her face as she cried. He instantly went to her and went down on his knees, pulling her close to him. He couldn’t stand her breaking down like this, but he knows better than anyone that she needs to do this. However, he’s never seen her this weak, she usually fights when he tries to comfort her, doesn’t want to ruin his clothes she’ll say. This time, she grabbed his shirt and clung to it like it was the only thing keeping her alive.
“I watched her die Arata,” Ami said sobbing. “The lady, she had the girl hanging in the closet. Kyoko and I got there in time and I found the girl in the closet. I put her on my shoulders and stood on my tiptoes, trying to get as tall as I could to loosen the pressure on her neck. I couldn’t keep the pressure on my toes anymore, I tried to hold out until help could come. I couldn’t. I went to rest on the flat of my feets, I was going to grab the stool nearby, but it was too late. When I looked up at her to tell her, her eyes were dull, lifeless, empty. I killed her Arata! It’s my fault that she’s-”
“NO!” Arata snapped pressing Ami as tight as he could against him, suffocating her until she moved her head to rest against his shoulder. “You didn’t kill her and it sure isn’t your fault!”
Ami blinked in surprised, any sobs wanting to escape her throat was blocked. He’s never interrupted her when she was telling him about what is haunting her.
“None of this is your fault! You did everything you could to try and save her,” Arata said. “You put too much pressure on yourself, you think if you worked faster, if you worked harder, that you would have saved more lives, but Ami, you never give something just 110%. You give it 300% everytime.”
Ami relaxed a little at Arata’s words, her eyes looked at him. She looked forward and saw the little girl there again, a smile on her face. Arata started to talk again and the little girl was slowly disappearing into tiny dots before fading away.
“Ami, if you could, you wouldn’t think twice about giving up your life if it could bring someone back,” Arata said gently. “You don’t realize how much that scares all of us.”
“Two weeks ago, I could have used you,” Ami said in a whisper. “I had to testify in court against the lady and relive the experience. The parents, they were giving me that look, that look that made me think I could have done a better job.” She felt Arata tighten his hug on her. “Thank you, I’m sorry I can’t be the friend you need me to be right now.”
“Ami, honestly, I’ve been wanting to break up with Emi for a while, but felt like I didn’t have a good reason too. So, when Yuugo told me about what Emi said to you,” Arata said. “If anything, I should be the one sorry for not being the friend you needed me to be when you needed me.”
“You had a reason,” Ami said pulling away and smiling. “Glad I could be of service to you.”
“Now, what do you even have in these boxes?” Arata asked.
“My mom’s old manuscripts. Why she instists on keeping them, I don’t know,” Ami said. “She says they will help me sleep at night and so far they have been, expect they are a mindless sleep because they are just so boring to read!”
Arata chuckled and let go of Ami. He was glad the bright Ami was back, and he hopes that now that the other Ami won’t show up for a while, if it shows up again. He is also going to make sure that if Ami ever needs someone to lean on again, someone to help her through her nightmares and demons, it’s going to be him, so she won’t be alone.
