what happened with taylor swift? i heard about the fan dying but not much else
Ana Benevides, a 23-year-old black woman died during Taylor Swift's concert in Rio, and her family doesn't even have the money to transport her body back to their city. Apparently, Taylor spoke superficially about this, not even mentioning the victim's name. Furthermore, a thousand more people became ill during the show because of the heat. It was around 60°C (140° F) there. The show's production team even placed metal sheets on the floor that made it even hotter, blocked the air vents so that no one could see the show from outside, and didn't let people come in with bottles of water, you had to buy it inside, but was being sold at an exorbitant price.
The problem is that Taylor is a billionaire, she could very well have avoided all of this. And now that it's happened, she's doing absolutely nothing to help. Brazilian fans who had to raise money on their own to help Ana's family.
Obviously, the climate issue is not her fault, but the entire country has been on alert for weeks because of the heat. Crowding people together in these conditions is completely wrong. Both her team and the company they hired should have taken more responsibility.
They even canceled the second show, but it was at the last minute after fans spent hours queuing under the hot sun. And in the last show she did here yesterday, she didn't comment on the girl who died, nor did she mention anything.

Taylor Swift fan dies after feeling unwell during concert in Rio
Ana Clara Benevides, 23, fainted and was taken to a hospital near Engenhão, but did not survive
Tumblr media
Ana Clara Benevides, 23, died on Friday (17th) night after feeling unwell during the concert of singer Taylor Swift, who debuted her tour in Brazil at the Nilton Santos stadium in Rio de Janeiro, with an audience of over 60,000 people.
The information was confirmed to Folha by Estela Benevides, Benevides' cousin, who received the news over the phone from the doctor who tried to resuscitate her. The young woman is originally from Pedro Gomes, Mato Grosso do Sul, but she grew up in Sonora, within the same state. She was sent to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital after fainting and being attended to at the stadium. The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
Benevides was at the front row and ended up fainting on the spot. According to nurse Thiago Fernandes, 22, a friend of Benevides, she was resuscitated at the stadium for about 40 minutes. On the way to the hospital, she had a second cardiac arrest.
Benevides arrived around 8 p.m., was attended to, but did not survive, dying shortly after at the hospital near Engenhão, in Méier, in the northern zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
The heat index at the venue reached 60ºC and unofficially, firefighters counted a thousand faintings during the event. Fans complained on social media about the prohibition of bringing water bottles into the stadium, considering the intense heat.

If I may add: the venue closed its vents. During a gods-damned heat wave.

A year ago I would've been so happy for Taylor, but nowadays whenever I think about her I can't help but think about Ana and how she didn't give a shit about her and was able to move on like nothing happened. She wouldn't do the same if Ana was American. She would say her name, wouldn't make her death about her, would pay a real homage to her like she did with Ronan. But Ana was a Latin American girl, a black girl, while Taylor is just another rich white woman who pretends to care about minorities only when it benefits her. At the end of the day money is going to be the most important thing to her.

Ana Benevides' mother, Adriana, shares that Taylor Swift contacted the family last week.
''There was an invitation to watch Sunday's show in São Paulo and Taylor's team signaled the singer's intention to help her family. For all the attention, thank you for the respect, affection and solidarity expressed."

Taylor Swift fans had to pitch in to help pay Ana Benevides' family back for the loan they had to take out to transport her body back home to be buried. The fans did it. Not T4F (certainly the ones with a moral obligation to do it) and not the billionaire popstar herself, who, while not obligated, could have shown a little kindness.

It's really sad that Brazilians Swifties are the only ones who are still talking about Ana's tragedy and being, rightfully, angry and disappointed about the way Taylor is handling this whole situation.
"How can an artist who built a 15-year career based on empathy and connection with her fans ignore something like this"

The fact that she did that at yesterday's concert after people were planning to do something ⬇️

this whole situation here in Brazil with the tour is insane, we, the fans, are the ones doing absolutely everything to give people some sense of security, we are the ones resolving all the things that are happening, WHILE FUCKING BILLIONAIRES are not doing anything, this is crazy.

“every single thing i touch turns to ashes” no no taylor this isn’t your fault. ana’s passing isn’t your fault, the postponed show isn’t your fault, the upset and anger that we’re feeling collectively as a fandom isn’t at you, because this is not your fault. the venues negligence is not your fault, the weather is not your fault, and the late postponement of the show is not your fault. at no point in this situation have you tried to do anything besides what is best for us all, including yourself, and none of what is happening is your fault.

Her silence is not for legal advice and that she can’t do something financially to help, and you know how I know that? Because other artists have helped their brazilian fans with no problem. Rihanna paid for the funeral expenses of a brazillian fan of hers and their family before. Michael Jackson too when he came to record stuff in brazil and ended up running over a fan. There's absolutely no law forbidding her to help the fan's family.
Yes, exactly!! I remembered Michael Jackson's case too, he even went to visit the boy in the hospital, paid for everything and talked to the boy's family
But Taylor doesn't want to take responsibility, maybe she is afraid of ruin her image, idk, she's being extremely selfish

The ‘Taylor Swift effect’ aims to provide water during Brazil’s life-threatening heat waves
Tumblr media
Brazilian climatologist Núbia Beray Armond for years had been sounding the alarm about Rio de Janeiro’s need for an extreme heat plan including water distribution. Interest was tepid until a disastrous Taylor Swift concert — and now her phone won’t stop ringing.
A stifling heat wave blanketed southeast Brazil the day of Swift’s concert last November, just before the start of summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Tens of thousands of “Swifties” lined up for hours under a sweltering sun, some huddling beneath umbrellas. Once inside, a group of parched fans managed to get Swift’s attention; she paused her performance to ask staff to provide them with water.
Not everyone was so lucky. Ana Clara Benevides, 23, suffered heat exposure that caused cardiorespiratory arrest during the concert, and she died.
Her death sparked outrage. Many accused organizers of failing to deliver sufficient water for concertgoers. Brazil’s justice minister said the death was unacceptable, and his ministry issued a regulation obliging organizers of big events during heat waves to guarantee water for attendees.
Others were galvanized to enshrine water access into law, a sign Brazilian authorities have begun considering it a public health issue in an ever-hotter world.

I love Taylor's music as much as the next person but her fans are fucking unbearable. Some people in Brazil wanted to make a moment of silence due to Ana's passing right after champagne problems, when Taylor is usually applauded for a couple of minutes. And the comment section was FILLED with people saying like "nooo, that's a terrible ideia. Taylor's gonna be so sad, she's gonna think we hate her, you guys know how she tends to take everything personally 😭😭"
Foda-se???? A 23 year old girl died. A family lost her daughter, her friends who loved her will never see her again. She was studying psychology, she had an adorable cat who's probably still waiting for her to come home, she was part of an athletic association at her uni, and if you know anything about athletics you know how close those people are. She's not coming back. THIS IS NOT ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT. She didn't kill her and she's nowhere responsible for her death, but putting the focus on her like she's the only one grieving (or the one who's grieving the most) is fucked up.
How come her fans treat her like the most powerful woman on the planet and the INDUSTRY when everything's okay, and in moments like this she's back to being a defenseless 16 year old? Honestly, make sense, people. She's a 33 woman, if she has a problem in not knowing how to cope with her self loathing and thinks everybody hates her and can't separate professional from personal she needs fucking therapy. It's exhausting when you people try to baby her. She's a billionaire, for fucks sake. When the Manchester tragedy happened Ariana paid for all the funeral expenses of 22 people and made a whole festival to pay homage to them. Taylor posted a little note and didn't even contact the family, Ana's own father said that.
Just because she's a great artist it doesn't mean she's a great person. We love her because we can relate to the good and bad feelings she writes about, but that's all her career's been like for almost 20 years: making a spectacle out of every single thing that happens to her and never doing anything to change it or actually getting over it. Do you really wanna put yourself on the line for someone like that?

Hi, @taylorswift, my name is Julia, I'm from Brasil and I'll be in the eras tour next weekend. I'm really excited cause I'm your fan since 2010, but I can't stop thinking since when Ana Benevidas was your fan too. She was one of us and I get it your team are trying some PR strategies, I have a graduation in PR, but she was one of us. Your almost complete silence makes we feel abandoned.
We are going to stay with you but we want to feel that you are going to stay with us too.
