The fate of the spirits of the temple of the Crimson Bird is hard. Despite the maintained comfort and cleanliness, very few believers visit the temple. Some kind of painful, inhuman despair hung in the air around him, because there had been no god in this temple for many years.

The only guardian of the temple and the temple spirits worry day after day about maintaining order and record the prayers of every rare visitor in the hope that when their god returns, he will be able to read them.

No one knows exactly what happened, it's just that one day Zhongxing went somewhere: he said goodbye and never came back. He bound Qingming with the shackles of a guardian and left him here to rot all alone. Again. After so many years that he served beside him. After the incident when Zhongxing saved him as a little fox. Zhongxing became much more to Qingming than god or his master - he was like a father to him.

One night, creaking footsteps rang out in the silence of the temple, and the presence of the fire god filled the temple with warmth and melted all the resentment in Qingming's heart in an instant. He's back! He didn't leave a promise for nothing. He was a little late, but that's not the main thing, because HE's with them again. He didn't abandon Qingming.

The fox ran barefoot to the entrance hall of the temple, not even bothering to put on shoes or prepare the words with which he would scold the negligent god who had left them and his own temple a long time ago.

When the last door remained between them, Qingming forcefully pushed it to the side, freezing in the passage - in the hallway, politely bowing to the amazed temple spirits, stood a human youth.

The man raised his head and turned to Qingming, his hand immediately darted to the sword behind his back.

"Fox! There is a demonic fox in your temple!"

The mark of the fire god burned on his forehead.

Hiromasa finds out that Seimei is Half Fox Yokai in the Onmyoji Novel

This is a book review from the the Onmyoji Novel by Baku Yumemakura that I found on a Chinese Website. The person did a review on varies parts of the stories. A lot of scenes are reviewed but I chose to translate this scene because I wanted to see how Hiromasa would react if he found out that Seimei was a half fox yokai/fox hanyo. I added some words outside of the quotation mark so I won't get confuse about who is talking.

"Onmyoji" Toad

When Hiromasa really said that, Seimei seemed to have a slight flicker at the corner of his mouth. In the dark, of course, that smile was invisible. But the feeling of smiling has been conveyed to Hiromasa.

"If it's true, what will happen to you, Hiromasa?" Seimei suddenly asked in a low voice.

"Hey, don't scare me, Seimei."

"You also know that it is said that my mother is a fox..." Seimei said quietly.

"Enough, enough!" Hiromasa shouted.

"Hey, Hiromasa, do you know what my face looks like now?"

Hiromasa felt that in the darkness, Seimei's nose pouted like a fox.

"Seimei, stop talking nonsense!" Hiromasa shouted.

"Haha." Seimei smiled and resumed his usual voice.

"Bastard!" After a long sigh, Hiromasa said in a rough voice with a look of anger, "I almost used a sword just now!"

"Really?" Seimei asked.

"En." Hiromasa nodded straightforwardly.

"It's scary." Seimei said.

"It's me who is terrified!" Hiromasa exclaimed.

"Yeah?" Seimei asked.

"You know, I'm too serious. If you think you are a yokai, you may have already drawn your sword." Hiromasa said.

"Oh." Seimei said.

"Understood?" Hiromasa asked.

"But, why would a yokai draw their sword?" Seimei asked.

"You ask 'why'?" Hiromasa didn't know how to answer. "Because it's a yokai."

"But there are all kinds of yokai too." Seimei said.

"Um." Hiromasa said.

"There are those who cause harm to the world, and those who do nothing to others." Seimei explained.

"Yeah." Hiromasa thought with his head sideways, then nodded and said seriously, "However, Seimei, I might encounter this situation."

"Well, we will meet." Seimei said.

"So, Seimei, I beg you, don't make fun of me like that. Sometimes I don't understand when you are joking, and then it turns out to be serious. I like you as a person, and it doesn't matter if you're a yokai. So I don't want to draw my sword. But, if the situation just now happened all of a sudden, I would be at a loss, and subconsciously reached out to touch the sword."

"Oh……" Seimei said.

"So, Seimei, even if you are a yokai, when you tell me the truth, I hope you speak slowly and don't scare me. That way, I can handle it." Hiromasa stammered. What a heartfelt statement.

"Understood, Hiromasa, it's my fault." Seimei said seriously.

There was a long silence. The sound of wheels rolling over the ground made people feel the silence all around.

Suddenly, Hiromasa, who had pursed his lips just now, spoke again in the dark.

"You know, Seimei..." Hiromasa said bluntly, with a low and firm tone, "Even if you are a yokai, I, Hiromasa, will stand by your side."
