I loooove the DCFDTL!!!!! And also, I love DCFDTL fans. Y'all are always my favorite knd fans.

I have a lot of thoughts about them, I'm not gonna try to say everything I think in this post.

I will say, PERSONALLY I find them as the DC much more interesting than them as Sector Z and I think that puts me in a specific category of DC fan. I do really like the idea of them recovering eventually, but I wouldn't want to see them just becoming Sector Z again. What we experience in life, both good and bad, changes us. You can't go back to being who you used to be, you will forever be moving forward. The DC should be the same way- As they recover, they would have to find out for themselves who they are now. Not Sector Z, not The Delightful Children, but their own, new people. That's what I want to explore most of all.

When they are the Delightful Children, they are such achingly tragic characters, all I want is happiness for them!! But what they represent in terms of the shows themes and messages is so strong and so important to KND as a show- In terms of "the oppressed trying to be more like the oppressor to get preferential treatment, which does not work" and "the neglected and emotionally abused child who conforms for the sake of their own safety" AND "continuing the cycle of abuse"

But this is also what makes it so, so wonderful when we get to see little moment of the DC being.... an individual? I know thats a contraction in itself- but I mean, when we get to see a hint of what they're like and what they do when they aren't trying to destroy Sector V. That toenails scene in op FUGITIVE is the best example. They're just being weird little kids. I love that! I want more of that! Let them have weird hobbies and things that bring them joy.

I guess that's what I'll say for now!

fave dylb scenes bc I can't get over and I’m already rewatching and noticing little things heheee 

- first meeting outside the restaurant. ohh how I love how awkward yet endearing they both were when they finally introduced themselves to one another. rewatching it made me realize that JY was already smitten by SA since the start. (like literally since the start y'all!!! he didn't even know her yet and wanted to stop the car to get SA an umbrella and this was in the first ep!!)

- when JY switched coffee cups with SA bc she spilt her cup and he started drinking it so she can’t refuse even though he doesn’t like coffee. Like he just did it bc he was compelled to do so?? like dude what if she already drank from it??? This scene was so funny to me and I love it cuz I dont think SA is used to being the one taken care of like that so it was just v cute

- when the noona was trying to get them to talk banmal but SA was like oh noooo he’s a superstar. This was cute bc you can actually see that JY was disappointed. Also they keep sneaking peeks at each other lol cute fools 

- waiting for taxi scene- this was so freaking adorable. shows how considerate they both are for each other and it’s so freaking awkward when they both realized they were standing there waiting for each other to get a taxi- but like in the cutest way

- when they were both outside that restaurant and SA asked if JY enjoyed his performance at granny’s house and I think this was the first time someone asked our boy if he likes what he does for a living and you can just tell his heart went soft for her(same dude same)

- spontaneous non-date date. ohh I love the first time they ate together at that beer place. they really started to get to know each other there. the mood and how that scene was filmed was just chef’s kiss~~

- rehearsal room we should be friends scene. when homeboy transitioned from moonlight sonata to happy birthday, y'all knew it was over for SA- god damn I would have swoon over too

- by the river “I wanted to see you” scene- high key JY sucks at communicating but I love how he is just so taken by SA that he just flat out says he misses her and as soon as he says it he was almost shocked himself. so pure

- the midnight call. I MEAN. guys. guys. he wanted to just talk to her and ask her out but tried to be nonchalant about it. ahhh they literally portrayed the first stages of dating so well I'm goo for it !!!!!!

- first walk together in the walkway. this was just so adorable. the almost hand holding. the chemistry!! the shy smiles :’’’) 

- SA’s birthday when she thanked JY for just being there for her. I love how she quietly acknowledges him and it was such an intimate interaction between them. I replay that scene a lot in my head

- when he ran to SA to give her his signed CD. He was so worried about her he forgot about JK lmaooo. Also the fact the he validated her as a violinist when SA was at a very low point... I mean... boyfriend material ugh

- the scene when SA told JY every little thing he does concerns her and that she didn’t want to feel that way about him anymore. As soon as SA said that homeboy PANICKED!!! I don’t even think he knew how much he liked SA until she said that :’)

- the lunchroom scenes 1) when they were teasing each other and 2) when JY announced that they were dating lolol I love how stoic he normally is but for SA he becomes a softie hehe

-ice cream day date; lol when SA won’t let JY tie her shoelaces bc she didn’t want to fall for him lol ok girl

-night ice cream/ stairs date. y'all know already. shit was just adorable. SA going for the kiss. I melted with the ice cream

- when JY asked SA for her handkerchief!!! it’s such a small gesture but they both knew it had a special meaning and I love how it put SA over the moon. (Also let’s include all the other times we see JY actually use that handkerchief- especially after they broke up. like homeboy was holding on to it for his dear life bc it was the only thing he had of SA~~ my fragile heart!!) ps did we ever see SA get a handkerchief from him???? No??? Sbs give me that pls

- when MS was telling JY in the car that SA has only openly confessed liking two things in her life and one them was JY. He was so flustered and couldn’t hide his smile and dimples... bruhhhhh he was full on swoon. Also when JY heard SA say that she really likes JY like he was so proud of himself lmao he’s like “yeah my gf LIKES ME” lolol

- when the lovebirds fought who was gonna clean up the broken glass at JY apartment. I love loveee this one bc SA has been beaten down so much by everyone calling her talentless that she didn’t even consider how important her hands is to her as a musician. And JY being like honey ur a violist and a musician too- UR HANDS ARE PRECIOUS. This was just v touching. Again showing how JY has always considered SA as an equal despite all the shit people say about his gf. luv him :’)

-all the moments JY just stood by SA’s side and held her hand when she needed comfort. I love how he’s just there for her. His silent support was just enough. (One thing that would have been nice is if we saw SA do the same thing, I felt like the writers were almost there but just didn't go all the way which is a shame tbh)

- Their lil day trip to JY’s hometown. I like how JY was so open to SA here. When he proclaimed that he never felt “this way before”  I screamed!! It was at that moment you clearly knew as a viewer that JY never really loved JK. He might have he loved the idea of her, yes. But he never truly loved her the way he loves SA. And his realization of this in that particular episode just made me so so so happy

- Handholding in the bus scene. That shit was so freaking tender bc you can tell how content JY was. He was beyond smitten- homeboy was IN LOVE AT THIS POINT

- when JY dropped SA home. I mean everything about this scene really makes ur heart soft right?? How both of them were beaming? How SA feet probably hurt bc homegirl was wearing heels the whole day and walked another 30 min just so she can spend more time with JY? How she literally ran back to him and JY just had this impression watching her like “my gf is cute af”?? How SA said something along the lines of JY having somewhere to belong to now and you can tell this had a double meaning for him bc at this point he prob considered SA as his home..I was literally mush oh my god. 

-break up scene. I know, v painful- but this was a rare one in kdramaland where I actually thought it was necessary for them to split (still wish it was done earlier but alas I'll take it) It was a graceful and needed breakup. Also when JY pulled out that umbrella for her.... bish it was over for me

- SA’s recital. I MEAN HOW IN SYNC COULD THEY BE. I normally skip the musical performances whenever I watch dramas that are music related- but this show makes it so magical I simply could not. PEAAAKKK ROMANCE

- JY’s recital- when he played that last song I was a big mess cuz we all knew it was dedicated for SA :’’) (I listen to this piece all the time now and im so emo when I hear it bc like god WHEN)

- First I love you scene. JY just going for it and chasing his happiness without caring if SA might reject him. We love to see it

-Second I love you scene. YALL. YALLLLL the way JY just releases his breathe when SA said she can't be friends bc she loves him more than a friend will forever slay me. Kim min jae’s acting here was real good. I love how JY said I love you four times and just went for it. top kissing scene in a krdrama for me hehee 

- dubokki date. lmao at JY with the spicy level. just plain cute

-the quick side by side peek to JY new album in the last episode. the way it showed how their relationship evolved. how he signed it as “for my love song ah” BISH I WANNA DATE A MUSICIAN TOO NOW

- that lil scene where JY wrote SA’s name as the planner bc he knows she works just as hard as the musicians and deserves the recognition. get u a boy who will vandalize a program notice for u :)

- basically all the scenes at the end of ep 16. I wish all of them were longer. I wanted to see more of them dating and happy!!! But I just love how they are both so INTO each other and you can see how happy JY is bc he finally has that person back that understood him since the beginning and it makes you feel so warm knowing they’re each other’s support system ahhhh I love their love !!

- also just all the scenes that JY looks at SA lovingly ~~ which literally happened since ep 1 I mean they are literally heart eyes emoji for each other every time :’)) 

- oh oh OH special shout out to ep 11 when JY just can’t stop holding SA’s hands !! the way he does it is so freaking INTIMATE like if I can only describe how I feel whenever I see compilation gifs of that episode where JY just reaches out and holds SA’s hands so steadily and tightly...it’s literally the most heartwarming thing.. idek how to explain what I’m trying to convey but I just vibe with it so much?? it’s so intimate and romantic.. I know I'm pretty late with this but I just want to thank you for all the no-bullshit answers over Siena stans. At first I was actually pretty sympathetic towards them and could understand people being weird about her because she's fucking Anthony, but the blatant tone-deaf comparisons between her and ANY of the black characters, only being interested in Simon as a character when Siena should fuck him because Anthony "needs to suffer ;)" or when he refers to his affair with her OR acting like shipping the only two black characters that are male and female on the show is somehow them being better than any of the other fans while deliberately ignoring Kate being a dark-skinned Indian woman now and the context that could likely come with that, not to mention the insane notion that somehow, a white woman like Siena suffers JUST AS MUCH AND EVEN MORE as these black characters who we see suffer 10 times more on this show just broke the camel's back to me. Like complaining about ~classism and comparing it to racist writing while erasing a woc and placing Siena as some would-be daughter of her parents (which in this context would literally be them wanting Indian immigrants to care for a British white woman in the 19th century....) is not y'all being Aware, it's being blatantly tone-deaf and racist. No amount of "you guys just hate sex workers :,(" is gonna erase this. I hate how they think they're being So Smart with calling out the classism issues in the show while conveniently buying into the bullshit "~racism doesn't exist anymore sweeties~" argument that the narrative TRIED to sell to us while at the same time having some obvious issues with the characters of color and how they're focused on and even framed against the white ones. And even now, thinking that them obsessing over this white female character and considering it them being Different and Better than the rest of the fans? Nah y'all are just being terrible at this point. It's only gonna get worse once season 2 comes out and they'll only enforce the whole "~racism doesn't exist sweeties~" excuse in order to be blatantly racist in any of the Kate hate and comparisons they'll likely make in order to tear her down as a love interest and wife to Anthony in order to prop their white fave up. No matter how much they wanna pretend otherwise, Siena's role as a sex worker doesn't erase the fact that she's a conveniently attractive white thin woman that fans will sooner flock to ship with Anthony than with Kate now, given the casting.

One final complaint, but I also find it ironic how they wanna pretend that Kate is apparently gonna be some carbon-copy of Siena just because her character description and moments with Anthony will include her 'calling him out on his bs'. As if the book where she is a legitimate character didn't exist a full DECADE before Siena was created. Literally all the specific traits for their fave can be traced back to Kate and how they were sooner inspired BY Kate as a character in creating Siena than the other way around. Like calling Anthony out on his shit? Anthony having a thing for her hair? Those are canon stuff in the book where Kate is introduced. Their fave is neither original nor going to be the Staple for Kate, but they'll never admit this.

Sorry it’s taken me a moment to respond, I wanted to give this my attention and I’ve had an exceptionally busy week.

I agree with all of this.  To be honest, a lot of the obsession with Siena seems rooted in deep-seated racism and a preference for the precious white woman.  They are using the show to back this up, as you said, because the show handled race horribly.  But because the show handled race horribly and has widely been criticized by people of color on that front, it just reinforces my perception of the most intense stans as like.... deeply racist.  Coupled, of course, with the idea that Kate’s family would LOOOOOVEEEEEEE PORCELAIN SKINNED SIENA!!!!  WHOSE SKIN WE LOVE!!!!!  MILKY WHITE BABES!!!!  

These people of color, from Kate’s family (who by the way, most of these stans get wrong because they haven’t read the source material--I see a lot of references to Kate’s alive parents which uhhhhhhh not only are they both dead but they’re both dead in a PLOT IMPORTANT WAY lmao) to Simon to Kate herself are only used to prop up Siena.  Simon is used to make Anthony jealous, because to many white women watching this show, some supposed Simon/Daphne stans included, Simon does not exist as anything other than a sex object because he’s a hot black man.  Simon is literally reduced to a virtual sex toy or figure of animalistic sexual desire by so many people who watch this show, it’s INSANELY gross.  Called out for racism?  But we ship Simon and Marina together, so we can’t beeee!!!

I do disagree with you a bit on Siena’s personality, largely because I didn’t.... see much of one.  I don’t think the writers intentionally took anything from Kate there, I think they just were like “ah yes, a low-class sex worker, she’s gonna say ‘ell guvna fancy a fuck luv” but also argue with him because we can’t think of anything else for her to do or any other way to mine humor out of her.  

I also see a lot of conflation of racism and classism by these people, and... no.  Regardless of your class, if you are a person of color in the western world, you have probably experienced racism.  I mean, fuck, we just saw an entire expose about how you can enter the royal family in England and experience intense racism.  Regardless of whether or not Siena is lower class, she will never experience the type of adversity that people experience with racism.  There’s this desperate attempt to pretend that what Siena experiences is the same as racism, which is clearly an attempt to make an excuse to dog Kate.

But ultimately tbh none of this matters in terms of what will be ON THE SHOW (editing to clarify: of course it matters in terms of what it reflects re: racism and how harmful it is to people of color who have to see it).  Season 2 is going to happen.  I’ll hedge my bets now that it’ll be wildly popular.  Kate will be loved by the vast majority of people watching.  These people will have even less content than they do now and they’ll show their asses even more and get dog piled on or fade away.  Kate and Anthony are about as canon as it gets.  Anthony canonically says that she’s the best he’s ever had lmao, she is the love of his life, he marries her and she pops out several babies for him.  So I’m just getting ready to drink my Kate Sharma Stan Juice when that season releases, because racists are gonna be racist especially when they have a white woman to worship.  But I know what I know.

i was rewatching boruto and y'all really lied your asses when you talked bad about the kids.

the show is kinda weak yeah but my grandkids are adorable???

y'all just hate/dislike them because you're too attached to the old generation and can't see the new one question their authority or be mad at them. everyone talks abour boruto calling naruto useless and a bad father and is like "how can he say that!! after all naruto has done!!!" the thing is he doesn't KNOW about naruto's past at that point. what he does know is that he isn't home most of the time and sometimes he has to see his mom and sister being sad because of that. it's not naruto's fault his job is so demanding but boruto is a KID who misses his dad. "but himawari doesn't do this!!!" she has a different personality, she understands better that her father is very busy but she's also sad and misses her dad. boruto is more like his own father and will act up and misbehave to get his attention. again: he's a child and he's learning

don't even get me started on sarada. if you think she is a bad daughter because she asks to spend more time with her father and gets angry at him from time to time AFTER THE LEFT HER FOR MORE THAN A DECADE AND TRIED TO KILL HER (even if he didn't know it was her, it was a child nonetheless) we'll really need to go to therapy luv.

Twilight Thoughts (BEASTARS Episodes 1-4 Part I)

Note: I realized this stretched FAR too long altogether, so i decided to break it up into two parts. that way it’s a tad less intimidating to read.

WARNING: SPOILERS IMMINENT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO'RE DECIDING TO WAIT FOR NETFLIX TO RELEASE THE SHOW FROM PRISON. But hey, if you don't mind, then let's get this show on the road!

Just know for those who've just found me now that I've never read the manga (although I've known about it since last year), so this is from the perspective of an outsider going in completely blind. While I normally am an anime only dude considering I'm not much of a reader, I DO have plans to read it. But, only AFTER the anime has concluded. I gave my reasons in an earlier post.

Ok, so episode 1 gave me feels I didn't ask for but know I'd welcome anyway cuz I just luv torturing myself with a n g s t .

Episode 2 threw all my expectations out the window and made me question if I was even ready to continue watching this show with that ending.

Episode 3 made me truly invested. (as if I weren't already. lmao)

But episode 4 just now?

....goodness, I don't even know WHAT to think if I'm being honest. I still had to process everything long after.

Hmm....where to begin....I guess I'll just start with things I reacted to in episode 1 and go from there. I'll try to recall as much as I can. Grab the popcorn my dudes, you're in for a long ramble. ^ ^'

Episode 1: The One With the Long Ass Title

- Not even three minutes in and someone already dies. Like, b o i . Sure hope that dude wasn't important. Yeah, it's probably n-

- "When the time comes, I'll tell her how I feel!"

- Right here was also when I learned what Legoshi was like as a character. He was such a sweet cinnabun that he already made it on my list of good bois. Ngl, he reminded me of an old Digimon OC I created way back in 2016 who was a werewolf with the same sorta personality.

- when I saw Louis (Or as I started calling him, Bambi Senpai), I thought "Ok, he's the popular bishie who's probably gonna be a huge asshat." But later in the episode, I started thinking that might not be the case? I mean in this one, he was grade A jerk material. But there was something there. And I'm not just talking about that scene of him pulling on Legoshi's tie. Lmao

- Why y'all gotta be so mean to Haru? Like god, sometimes high school teen drama like this makes me so.....ugh.

- A mongoose voiced by Bakugou was something I never knew I needed to hear.

Overall, a pretty fun and engaging introduction imo. For something that's supposed to be Slice of Life, at least.

Episode 2: Oh Lord That Ending....

- Legoshi not wanting to get out of bed cuz of being depressed felt relatable, but I also felt bad for him despite not knowing what went down at that moment.

- Legoshi fighting his instincts in a nutshell:

I swear I started hearing Who's There and Borderline of Madness from P4 playing during this moment I am not even kidding. Lmao

- Ok, here's where I noticed Louis was actually nicer than I thought. Cuz even though he seemed mad at the goat boy for eating his script instead of reading it, he still helps him get his lines down.

- The cafeteria fight scene was so funny. "You sound stressed! MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE A NAP!" XD

- "Ok think, how can I lose in a natural way?" I luv how Legoshi KNOWS he can kick his ass, but tries his best to strategize how to lose in a believable way. Lmao

- More nice guy points for Bambi Senpai. Though, he seems to be curious about Legoshi for some reason.

- I always like rewatching that scene where the anteater guy ditches Legoshi at the Gardening Club. It's hilarious and the poor wolf acts so cute during that. ^ ^

- To my surprise, Haru didn't seem to remember that night. Which was weird, but then I realized when I went back that the subs threw me off and the goat actually said "Senpai!" so she didn't even know it was him.

- Legoshi too lost in his thoughts to pay attention to what's about to happen and overthinking just wanting to talk was such a mood. *sigh* social anxiety sucks.

- ....You know what I'm about to talk about next.

Like, it's the thing that keeps me from properly recommending this show cuz I have to stop randomly and say "Don't be alarmed by the end of episode 2. I swear it doesn't go anywhere the following episode!" After that, they ENDED THE EPISODE THERE. And I was like "....Wait, thAT'S IT? WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!" I was both concerned and dying. inside and out. Lmao

- Oh hey, I forgot to talk about the OP and ED sequences! While the ED songs are kinda just ok, their sequences, while very similar, change themes with every episode. This episode was about him and Haru, so it was pretty cute. The OP tho? GOD, I luv Wild Side so much. It's such a bop and I can't wait for them to release the full version. I haven't heard something so jazzy since Wake Up Get Up Get Out There from Persona 5 and I feel like that genre is criminally underused in anime OPs. The sequence itself? SO cute! But also kinda sad cuz it seems to be showing what goes on in Legoshi's mind. He hopes he could get to know Haru and be with her, but it ends with him afraid with a skull and blood everywhere. Almost as if he's thinking "What've I done?" The art direction was really creative too. It reminded me of the stuff you see from Coraline or uhh....Fantastic Mr. Fox? Yeah, that.

So here’s the thing. A while ago, I had sent an ask to @bohemian-rhapsody-slash about a Ben/Rami scenario that involved them coming out about their relationship. It was one of my favorite Ben/Rami headcanons ever, so I decided to just get up and write the damn thing.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve finally finished writing it. And just in time too, because I’m gonna be working on stuff for Maycury week and my Leezello fic.

Ben woke up the moment his phone started screeching, hand shooting towards his nightstand to locate the bloody curse. He felt around blindly for a moment, before grasping the wailing the object and moving on autopilot to disable the sounds. Then just like that, the room was once again plunged into silence.

He chucked the phone back onto the nightstand, burrowing further into the warmth of his bed.

“No work today?”

Ben grunted at the sound of the voice, suddenly remembering that he had a bed-mate with him.

“No… maybe.. ’m call in sick or something…” he mumbled.

A soft chuckle sent shivers down Ben’s spine as Rami wrapped his arms around him, pulling him in closer. “Babe…come on..”

The younger man huffed childishly, turning around in his boyfriend’s hold. He squinted in the soft morning light to see that Rami was wide awake, clearly having woken up way before him. Ben managed a lazy furrow of his brows.

“Still jet-lagged?” he inquired. Rami shook his head.

“No, not anymore. Just like to watch you sleeping.” He pressed a kiss on Ben's forehead, running his hand up and down Ben’s naked back. “Did you know that you make little kitten sounds in your sleep?”

Ben scoffed, lightly shoving Rami onto his back and snuggling into his side. “I do not. Now shut up, I’m still sleeping.”

His boyfriend laughed heartily, vibrations echoing through his chest. Ben smiled despite his sleepy, moody, self. He liked this; being here with Rami. It had been so long since they had last seen each other face to face, and he could selfishly admit that he loathed the idea of parting from him so soon. Work be damned - this was where he wanted to spend his day.

As if reading his thoughts, Rami urged him a little bit closer, until he was properly draped over him, face resting just under the older man's chin. Ben breathed in his boyfriend’s scent, silently thanking (not for the first time) his past self for insisting on heavier drapes and darker curtains in his bedroom when he first moved into his flat. For one, they made sleeping through the night a whole lot easier after long and tiring days; and secondly, they made the mornings last longer.

Which was incredibly ideal when it was your main excuse for sleeping in with your boyfriend.

Rami nuzzled his hair, pressing kisses to the edge of his hairline. “I hate to be the one to say this, but I really don’t think you should be sleeping in if you have a call time, babe… I don’t want to see you get in trouble because of me.”

“Mmm.. don’t care. Wanna stay here. Missed you.”

Rami chuckled. “I know, Ben, I’ve missed you too.” Ben responded with a soft grunt of agreement. Rami smiled into his hair. “Missed you so much…”

“Then let's just stay..” Ben whined, lifting his head and resting his chin on Rami’s chest. Beautiful blue eyes pleaded with Rami’s in the dim light of the room, beautiful even in the dark.

“Let’s just stay in today, Ram. No casting calls, no auditions, no go-sees. No… weirdos looking at me like I’m some sort of tasting menu on display… Please, I just want to spend the day with my boyfriend - who flew in last night just to surprise me - it's not too much to ask, right?… Please?”

Rami smiled wryly, caressing his boyfriend’s face with gentle fingers. He pulled him into a kiss, thinking that - honestly - Ben did have a point. After all, they just didn’t get moments like these too often anymore. Ever since Bohemian Rhapsody had premiered, going out had become trickier than usual - what with anonymity going out the window - as more and more people watched the movie and subsequently became fans, both of their characters and themselves.

It was easier when they were still filming, Rami mused. Back then, he and Ben could spend weeks in Ben’s flat - just the two of them and Frankie - and no one would bat an eye. But these days, the most they could do was sneak into each other’s hotel rooms during press tours - then try to stand as far away from each other as possible when it was time to face the media; all so no one would suspect a thing.

It was exhausting, but worth it.

Because while Rami loved the amount of response the film was getting, and how people were praising his performance as Freddie Mercury - he was especially proud of how fans were starting to appreciate Ben as more than just a pretty face. Yes, he found himself thinking, my boyfriend is an amazing performer, thank you. He’s not just someone with great abs or a great ass (which he did have, by the way). He's talented, and amazing. Did he mention that he was amazing? Because he is. Ben Hardy is amazing, and everyone needs to get with the program.

Honestly if he had the chance, Rami would probably make shameless proclamations about the true talent Ben was, on every platform and in any interview; the only reason he hasn't was because a single wrong word could risk outing them to the world.

Not that either of them were ashamed of being together. No, not at all.

It was just… it was a conversation they needed to have. For sure. But maybe not when they were both naked in bed, his beautiful boyfriend still cuddled up to him and making it clear that he couldn’t care less about the outside world at the moment.

Right here, right now - in this bed - it was just the two of them, and that was all that mattered.

Rami smiled. “Okay, babe,” he whispered, the gentlest of breaths against his Ben’s lips. “Okay. We can stay in today.”

Ben utterly beamed, smiling so brightly you’d think that sunlight was finally flooding into the room. In reality, they were still shrouded by half-light, the sun’s rays muted for the most part by Ben’s dark curtains. It made Rami’s features look darker than usual - the perfect opposite to Ben’s golden sunshine. Ben would never admit it, but he absolutely loved that about being with Rami. His personal dark prince; Ben wouldn’t trade it for the world.

He pulled Rami into another deep kiss, lips moving languidly against each other, then laid his head back down on the other man’s chest, enjoying the pure domesticity of it all.

The moment was broken though, once again, by the shrill cry of Ben’s phone.

Ben groaned loudly. It was just a message, but anything other than his boyfriend’s soothing voice while in the confines of his room was an abomination in his book.

He reluctantly moved from Rami’s hold, turning around to check his phone. It was from Joe, because of course it would be. He had sent a picture of he and Gwilym in their groupchat, showing the two of them out and about on the streets of New York. Bloody nerds.

Rami slid his arms around Ben’s waist, spooning and holding him close while pressing kisses onto his strong shoulders. “Hmmm… from Joe?”

Ben smiled, leaning back into Rami’s warmth. “Mhmm. I can’t believe he still thinks no one knows he fancies Gwil.”

“That’s Joe for you,” Rami chuckled, nuzzling the nape of Ben’s neck. Ben shivered from the sensation. “Did he ever tell you about that time he made an ass of himself in front of a hostess in Japan when he accidentally called Gwil his ‘beloved’?”

Ben grinned. “He didn’t!”

“Oh, he did. Then he tried to save face by saying how he meant Gwil was his 'best bro', or something. It was hilarious. A mess, but hilarious.”

Ben giggled.

Another notification came through, this time from Instagram. Ben swiped the app icon, opening it up to show the same picture, but now on Joe’s insta account.

[Not a reunion without the whole gang, but I guess I’ll live.]

Immediately the comments started pouring in. Ben scrolled through them, feeling that familiar sense of lowkey bitterness grow in his gut.

'gwilym out here cheating on his bf like that. @benhardy deserves better’

'leezzello tonight, but we all know hardzello is endgame @benhardy’

Ben slammed his phone down on the bed and smooshed his face into his pillow.

Great, his mood was utterly ruined. God, this was the absolute last thing he needed this morning. Here he was, trying to enjoy a simple morning with his boyfriend, and he had to go and be reminded that everyone still thought he was dating and/or cheating on either Joe or Gwil.

He huffed in frustration. It wasn’t exactly fun to be reminded that everyone basically thought he was a slag.

“Babe, what’s wrong? Ben?” Rami worriedly reached over Ben’s shoulder to check on his boyfriend, smoothing his hair away from his face. “Babe? Did something happen?” He tried to turn Ben back around, but the younger man refused to budge.

The thing was, Ben knew he was being petulant. He did, he wasn’t an idiot. He was 100% aware that he was equally to blame for the whole entire narrative that was he and Joe and Gwilym - supposedly being in some sort of love triangle.

It was all him.

And Joe.

And Gwil.

Although they never really meant anything by it; after all, Ben had never seen anything wrong with showing affection to your co-stars. He had done it before, with other cast-mates, and came away just fine.

So when the opportunities arose, he happily went along with all of Joe’s jokes, or Gwilym’s odd humor, and played up that notion about them being super close during filming, and even during breaks. They took pictures and videos, and shared them on social media. Joking about being in love and all that. It was all harmless humor.

But then, people - their fans - became truly invested, and well, here he was.

Because what people didn’t know, was that all the time he spent with Gwil and Joe, was to make up for - or even to hide - the fact that he couldn’t exactly show how much time he was spending with Rami.

All those pictures and videos of himself, running around with Gwilym or Joe; what really mattered was that at the end of the day, he would be able to snuggling up to Rami in bed while laughing about Gwil getting his wig stuck in things for the hundredth time, or just Joe and his mushroom perm.

It was great.

God, he still remembered how flustered he was when he first met Rami, having been a fan of his since he was a bloody teenager. The older man was so gracious with him, and so sweet, that it had honestly been hard to not fall head over heels for him. They were so different as people, from such wildly differing backgrounds; and yet they could talk for hours, about anything and everything under the sun. Rami never acted like he wasn’t interested in his what he had to say; always ready to humor his thoughts and offer his two cents. It was such an exhilarating experience for Ben - to be seen as an equal, and not as just another bloke with a pretty face.

So much so, that when they received the final script for Bohemian Rhapsody, Ben had been dismayed by how little Freddie and Roger interacted. They were bloody best friends, you bastards! And even after Graham explained everything to him, he still couldn’t help but feel a little bitter.

Here was a wealth of opportunities for him, as Roger, to spend even more time with Rami - and the film wasn’t allowing it.

Bollocks.

Rami - much like right now - had asked him about it later on; and somehow, someway, that conversation had turned into a confession, and long story short, he had been with Rami ever since.

Of course they didn’t tell anyone, mostly out of respect for professionalism, but as time went on, hiding their relationship became harder, and harder.

Just them sneaking around, pretending they didn’t want to spend every waking hour together; it had all seemed ideal when they started out. He even told Rami that he was okay with being secretive, if it meant he could be with him. But now... now he wondered it they would ever be more than just that - a secret.

A faint click sounded behind him, and suddenly he could feel more than see, the light of his bedside lamp fill his room. Ben finally relented and lifted his face from it’s hiding place, turning around to face Rami, eyes stormy and downcast.

Rami frowned, reaching up to trace the lines of Ben's tear-filled, bloodshot eyes. He sniffled, and concern immediately colored Rami’s features.

“Talk to me, Ben…”

Ben sighed, suddenly wishing he could run away from this conversation. It was as if the whole issue in his head suddenly seemed so... childish.

After all... it was just some harmless fun amongst the fans, right? It's not like anyone really means anything by it. It was just people being people on social media. It wasn’t a big deal.

Really.

“It’s nothing, Ram. ’s not a big deal.”

“Babe, if it’s upsetting you then it is a big deal. Come on, talk to me… I hate seeing you like this.”

Ben took Rami’s hand, loving how his boyfriend squeezed his fingers to reassure him. “I... it’s stupid, love.”

Rami sighed, giving Ben one of his looks. It was the look that said 'I need to fix this- help me fix this' . As if any of it was his fault.

Ben took a deep breath. “It’s just… the fans, again, I suppose. The whole… thing with Joe and Gwil... and me.”

Rami nodded. Of course he knew what Ben was talking about. He, like everyone else, were privy towards their antics during filming. He thought it was hilarious.

Then again, maybe he had misread something.

Ben continued, “It’s just that… everyone thinks I’m dating one of them, right? One or the other. And I know we’re the ones who started it - and I know that it’s just joking around - I know that. But then, sometimes they - the fans - they just… say things, like... like I’m some kind of two-timing whore who’s playing around with their feelings… and I just..”

Ben’s voice trailed off as he felt a weight lift off his chest. He was a little taken aback by how much this had actually been bothering him.

Oh.

He gripped Rami’s hand harder, holding on for dear life. He could see his boyfriend studying him, patiently waiting for him to finish saying his piece. He guessed it was now or never.

“I just… I hate that everyone thinks I’m some tart sleeping around with my friends, when the truth is…” He looked away from Rami’s eyes, color rising on his cheeks. “..when the truth is I’m perfectly happy with you. I… hate that I can’t just… tell everyone that they're wrong. That 'no, I am *not* dating Joe Mazzello or Gwilym Lee. I’m not… I’m..-”

Gentle fingers on his face brought his attention back to his boyfriend. Rami was gazing at him with teary eyes, a soft smile on his lips. His fingers gently traced the outline of his bottom lip, before cupping his cheek in his warm palm, and just holding him. As if Ben was the most precious thing Rami had ever been privileged to touch.

“Ben… are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

Ben swallowed, suddenly unsure. On one hand, he knew what he wanted. On the other hand… he really didn’t want to ruin this.

“I… I want to be able to tell them that I already have a boyfriend, thank you very much. And that he’s beautiful, and wonderful.” He covered Rami’s hand with his own, pressing a kiss into his palm. “Don't get me wrong, Ram, I don’t mind the joking… but I’m taken, and I want to be able to say that…”

Rami let out a breath of relief.

“Babe… I never thought… I just assumed…- I want that too, Ben. If you’re ready for it - and I mean really ready - then I’m ready to go there with you.”

Ben surged forward, pulling Rami into a deep kiss, heart beating out of his chest. Rami kissed him back with equal fervor, something inside of him unfurling and breaking free from it’s restraints. He let Ben take control, falling onto his back as the younger man straddled him, never breaking their kiss.

Rami pulled away from Ben with labored breath.“Get your phone,” he groaned, hands steadying the sway of Ben's hips. Ben quickly reached for the device he had discarded a few minutes ago, already having an inkling as of how they were going to do this.

Giggling, he unlocked the screen and pulled up the camera app, aiming it right at his boyfriend’s smiling face; his other hand moved to entwine with Rami’s on Rami’s chest.

He snapped the picture.

Once.

Twice.

Three times, because his boyfriend was gorgeous, alright.

He showed the pictures to Rami, who laughed at the shitty lighting. Ben couldn't care less, because the point was that it showed more than enough, and the anticipation of finally sharing their relationship with the world was making him giddy.

“Wait, let me take one too!” Rami took the phone from Ben’s hand, switching the camera to selfie mode. He then tugged Ben off of him so he could lie down beside him. Ben chuckled as he arranged himself into a totally-candid-and-not-staged-position beside his boyfriend, arm wrapped around the older man’s torso, face resting nicely on his shoulder.

Looking into the camera together, Rami snapped the shot.

One, with he and Ben perfectly in frame together.

Twice, with Ben kissing his cheek.

And three times, with Ben's laughing face buried in the crook of Rami’s neck, his elated smile just barely visible in the blur of motion.

Rami smiled a smile of his own, holding his boyfriend close.

They were really going to do this, huh?

Ben grinned excitedly at him, like a child before Christmas, when he took his phone back, swiping through the photos. Rami felt his heart, honest to god, flutter.

Yep. Guess they were.

A few lifelong minutes later - a.k.a after Ben had painstakingly picked two of his favorite pictures out of the bunch - Rami hovered over Ben's shoulder as his boyfriend uploaded the photos onto his instagram. His heart skipped a beat when he saw Ben write out his caption, then tag him; and then just like that, the reality of their lives never being the same again from that day forward, truly dawned on him.

The moment of truth; Ben hit 'Share'.

The minute the post finished uploading, Ben shut his phone off and put it back on the nightstand. Confused, Rami opened his mouth to ask, but Ben just moved to straddle his boyfriend once again.

"What?" the blonde said coyly, feigning innocence. "Did we not agree to spend the day in? I don't know about you, Ram, but in my book, spending the day in includes not caring about what the world has to say about my relationship."

Rami laughed out loud, hands back on his boyfriend's hips; of course, again, his Ben had a point.

Around them, Rami noted how the room suddenly seemed brighter - the air so much more lighter. Part of him knew it was because they were still in bed way past sunrise; but another part of him was certain that it was because of the difference in Ben.

Ben, who seemed happier. Ben, who seemed more at ease.

Rami smirked. "Well, then. Who am I to argue with that? Any ideas, babe?"

Ben raised an eyebrow, bottom lip between his teeth.

"Oh, don't worry, babe... I can definitely think of a few."

@rydenbolt, @scarlettxruby & Maya meet up at the Autumn Festival and do so much needed catching up. 

Part I

Maya didn’t want to go home. She rarely wanted to go home these days. So instead, she and Hermes were wandering the festival for another night. She’d picked up a spiked hot chocolate earlier, but had yet to drink it. She didn’t feel much like drinking tonight. While lively, the festival wasn’t turning out to be quite the kind of party that let her take her mind off everything. “What do you think?” Maya asked the husky at her side, “Think we should blow this popsicle stand?”

“Yanno, ‘blow’ and 'popsicle’ totally fit t'gether in any sentence you say.” A familiar voice she probably hadn’t heard in a while answered instead of the dog her question was directed at. Ryden, a bottle of Guinness in hand, approached Maya with his usual sharp grin. They haven’t seen each other in a while - a fact that made Ryden feel strangely giddy when he recognized her from a distance and decided to say hello.

Maya wasn’t expecting Hermes to answer, of course. She was therefore a little surprised to hear any answer at all. She looked up to see Ryden approaching her, beer in hand. The smile that broke across her face was impossible to stop. She even huffed a laugh. But still in the back of her head alarm bells went off. Somehow Ryden always saw through her. Which meant he’d probably see through her attempts to be 'just fine, thanks’. But she had missed him. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you have your mind in the gutter,” Maya replied. Hermes, on the other hand, regarded the newcomer with suspicion and moved to stand between the two of them. She, though, didn’t even notice.

Ryden snorted in amusement as Maya scolded her dog for growling at him, letting the husky get a whiff of him just enough to remember the scent and stop being nervous about him before he stepped past Hermes to join Maya properly. “Yeah, I can see it. There are things he can do that I can’t. Like licking his own butt. Legit.” He bumped his beer bottle against her cup of hot chocolate. “Cheers.”

Having decided that while this person looked like those people Maya was afraid of, but didn’t smell like them, Hermes returned to Maya’s side. “Sounds like you’re just not applying yourself,” she teased. She knocked her glass with Ryden’s and returned his cheers. She took a sip. The drink was stronger than she’d expected, a fact which showed in her expression before she managed to council her expression. Trying to move past it, she asked, “How’ve you been?”

“Yer a bonnie lass, luv, but I ain’t gunna kiss me own arse for ya, sorry.” Ryden’s grin widened, having missed the banters they shared. Her face as she sipped on her hot chocolate got him laughing fondly at her. “Wha'choo put in there, yo? Nasty cough syrup? Ya look like yer about to retch."His smile faltered a little when she asked him how he’s been. It was strange to hear her ask that - they’ve grown so close lately that it felt odd to act like acquaintances who haven’t seen each other in a while. "Ahh, yanno me. I’m alright. Enjoyin’… whatever this is.” He glanced about, knowing that the festival is autumn related but not really his thing. He was just there for the music and drinks. “You?”

“So I’m hoping I’m going to do it or…?“ Maya teased again. Even in the dim half light, the mischievous sparkle in her eyes was easy to spot. Of course, he’d caught her reaction. "I was expecting whiskey and I got vodka. A lot of vodka,” she explained. She offered it up for him to taste too, to prove that she wasn’t overreacting. Someone had gone a bit heavy handed on the vodka. It didn’t escape Maya’s attention either the slight fade in his smile when she asked how he’d been. It was better this way, she tried to tell herself, them not seeing each other as often meant he wouldn’t feel like he had to save her from this cult nonsense. She could save herself. Even she didn’t really believe it. As far as an answer, she shrugged, “Can’t complain.” That much was true, but even to say she was fine wasn’t really true.

Ryden took the cup from her, tasting the chocolate with a shrug. “I see no problem with this.” Because honestly, he willingly drank much much worse before. Returning the cup to her, he hunched a little to peer into her face. “How about them worry lines ya got overnight? Can’t complain of those either?” He knew how Maya looked when well-rested and content. This was not it.

Maya stuck her tongue out. It wasn’t like she’d been exactly going easy on the drinking recently, but for a family friendly festival it was more vodka than she’d expected. And then there it was, the reason she hadn’t called or texted in awhile. She gave him a plaster smile, “I’m fine, Ryden.” She was lying. Usually, at this point, she would’ve used sex to try and distract him. Back in New York, it always did that trick. But she already knew that wouldn’t work here. Almost as if on cue, something in the corner of her eye snapped her attention to it. It wasn’t one of them. Her shoulders relaxed. She took a sip of her drink and refocused with a smile.

“Yer sayin’ my name. It ain’t good if yer sayin’ my name.” Eyebrow quirked, he watched her head spin around to glance at something only to decide it wasn’t whatever she thought it was. He took a long, careful sip off his beer, eyeing her suspiciously while he drank. Ryden wasn’t good at figuring complicated people out, but what he knew very well was how to read body language. Maya was on edge - it was so completely obvious that it poked him right in the eye. “So, what shit have ya gotten yerself into, hm? It ain’t drugs for sure. Ya don’t rob banks either. A bloke ya picked up for a while and can’t handle bein’ dropped? Or is it some supernatural, magic related shit?”

Maya shook her head, “I haven’t gotten myself into anything.” Technically true seeing as it wasn’t her fault this cult had decided she had some kind of destiny. She took a long drink from her cup. Maybe it would be better to get drunk tonight. “Certainly, not anything I can’t handle,” she added. Hermes whined, clearly disagreeing. Maya threw the husky an accusatory look as if he had betrayed her.

“Yeah, if ya could, what’s the backup doin’ here?” He pointed at the husky, just as he whined in protest. “Sledge pullin’ aside, why a guard dog?” He dropped by Maya’s place a couple of times when she wasn’t in to pick some stuff up. Her place still looked as safe as a place could get and there were no signs of anyone having broken in at any point. Ryden clicked his studded tongue against the roof of his mouth, draining the last of his beer. “Fine, ya won’t tell me. Yer choice. I ain’t gunna coddle ya into it. But ya should know that when yer in a situation, it’s a smart thing to ask for help. 'Nless I’m totally overreactin’ here but I don’t think I am cause, girl, the only person I know that’s got worse luck than you is me.”

Maya looked away from Ryden. He was right, of course. It wasn’t getting any worse, but it wasn’t getting any better either. As for his first two questions, she didn’t bother answering them. There wasn’t a way to do it without lying. Or worse, admitting she was terrified. She only brought her gaze back when he said the smart thing to do would be asking for help. She drained her own glass. “Yeah, and when’s the last time you asked for help?” she asked.

“Just cause I got stupid issues, don’t mean ya gotta jump off that bridge too,” Ryden snorted at her, with a hint of annoyance to his tone. He tossed the beer bottle side, then straightened the leather collar of his jacket. "I’m crashin’ at yer place for a while.” He declared like she got no choice in it.

“I can take care of myself,” Maya bumped her shoulder against Ryden’s, “Y'all don’t have to worry about me.” She couldn’t help her smile when he announced that he’d be crashing at hers for awhile. She should be annoyed and it would make it harder to pretend she was fine. But it made her feel safer. For a long moment, she looked around the festival, just observing. She wasn’t looking at him when she said, “I’ve missed you, you know.”

“No ya can’t. Ya suck at it big time,” Ryden bumped her shoulder back, a smirk back on his face. As if he were just waiting for that permission, he threw an arm around her shoulders when she confessed she’d missed him. His lips pressed against her temple and stayed there for a long moment, breathing out his relief. Unusually enough, he felt safe with her too - she was a brief, occasional escape from his own problems, a safe place he wasn’t finding anywhere else. Even though everything they had between them was built on promises to keep distance, it felt good to pretend with Maya that they were both fine and that everything was okay.

"Rude and uncalled for,” Maya managed to tease, “If somewhat true.” She was trying to prove just that to herself at the moment, that she could still take care of herself. As he threw an arm around her, she leaned into his warmth. Until this moment, she didn’t realize how long she’d been cold. Ignoring the bustle of the festival around them, they just stood there. Maya’s heartbeat slowed properly for the first time in weeks. “Can we just pretend?” she asked quietly, “Just for tonight that there’s no one chasing me and no one chasing you. That we’re just two normal people with normal people problems?”

Reluctantly, Ryden broke contact to look down at Maya, though he kept his arm around her, the fabric of her jacket cold against his palm. “Okay, so sumone’s chasin’ ya.” It wasn’t a question, but a conclusion, since she’d just confessed it. He squeezed her shoulders just a bit tighter when she asked him to pretend, at least for tonight. “Yeah, I guess we could do that. I’m into roleplay.” He huffed out a breathy chuckle.

Ruby was back at the festival with no real goal other than more churros and a LOT of beer. She held her sixth… or was it seventh… up to her mouth and finished it off before tossing the bottle into the trash. She had a lot on her mind recently, some of which was pretty confusing. Not necessarily in a bad way, but just in a way that required… a LOT of beer. She had headed back to the drinks stand when a familiar smell drifted towards her. Ruby turned her head and followed the scent, and when she saw who it was she grinned big enough to hurt. If he hadn’t been so long since she’d seen him, and she’d had less to drink, Ruby might’ve been more tactful. Especially since Maya hadn’t seen him in just as long. As it was, she merely ran in Ryden’s direction, giving barely a warning before launching herself at her friend in a what amounted to a tackle hug. “Oh my god… text a bitch once in awhile you loser…” she said, hugging him tight, oblivious to the serious conversation that had passed between the two.

Maya looked down when Ryden repeated what she’d admitted to. She brought her gaze back up with a genuine smile though when he agreed to pretend. A wicked grin curved her lips, even though the light hadn’t fully returned to eyes, “Oh? You should’ve told me…” Her sentence was cut off when someone jumped at Ryden. Immediately her brain went into fight or flight. But after half a second, her brain recognized Ruby and she relaxed a little. Hermes barked once, seeming to think that Ruby had agreed with his first impression of Ryden.

Good thing that Ryden’s wolfy sense got him to turn just in a nick of time to catch Ruby as she launched herself at him. “Holy fuck, ya got heavy, lass! Too many doughnuts?” He picked her off the ground, giving her a little spin. When he put her down, he was grinning from ear to ear. “Yeah, naw, I don’t like you, didn’t ya git the message?” He teased, pinching her chin. Then his nose picked up the scent of alcohol on her. “Drunk ass bitch, don’t run when yer barely standin’..”

Ruby couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up as Ryden spun her around. She heard Hermes’ bark, smelled Maya’s familiar scent of cake and other things, and when Ryden sat her down, she tried not to wobble. “It’s the churros, not doughnuts,” Ruby grinned. She gave him a hard poke at the not liking her comment, tilting towards the touch to her chin with friendly affection. “I’d be standin’ fine if someone hadn’t spun me like a top.” She grinned at Maya. “I know you want him all to yourself, but you coulda texted me too lady.” She was teasing. Mostly.

Maya just smiled as Ryden spun Ruby around. She was safe here. Those cult kids would have to be crazy to kidnap her surrounded by people, especially when she was with two werewolves. Soon, she’d need another drink, but for now she was alright. As for Ruby’s comment, Maya raised an eyebrow, “Rude, first of all and second patently untrue. You know how well I love a threesome.” At the very least she liked that a drunk Ruby would, hopefully, distract Ryden from what was going on with Maya.

“I fuckin’ love churros,” Ryden confessed, then put his hands up to placate the situation. “Oi, girls, chill. Plenty of me for ya both. Don’t argue over it - shits up the mood.” He threw an arm over them both, him in the middle. “What are we drinkin’ t'night. Yer choice, Rubles, cause I ain’t lettin’ ya mix.”

“Yet still haven’t had one,” Ruby pointed out, booping Maya’s nose. “We should get more then,” Ruby said about churros. And beer. “I’ve had… beer. Lots of beer. Soo…. beer?”

Maya tilted her head, grinning wickedly. “I mean, I have had at least one. But that sounds like a challenge there Ruby.” She slung an arm around Ryden’s waist, seeing as it was the only part of him her arm could reasonably reach. “But yes to more drinks,” she added, “Although I’d like something a little harder than beer.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, okay, hold on. First of all, were ya talkin’ bout threesomes without me and second, what the fuck you two, ya hurt my feelings!” Which was, of course, not something Ryden was seriously considering but could always joke about. If he knew Maya and Ruby had a thing too, it would point his trail of thought in the right direction though. Directing them towards the alcohol stand, he grumbled. “Geez, ya both hella needy t'night. 'I want sumtin’ stronger, I want churros’.” His tone high pitched to ridicule their requests, Ryden chuckled, tightening the hold on his girls a little to keep the crowds they passed through from parting them.

“I mean… ain’t no party like a threesome party, right?” Ruby wrapped a hand around Ryden as well, humming thoughtfully as they walked. “Though I’m totally down to watch…” She was only partly joking. Given the right motivation - and the right amounts of alcohol - Ruby would totally put her voyeur kink into play. “How 'bout somethin’ stronger AND churros then?”

Maya laughed, “I’m sorry, but are you suggesting you wouldn’t want to fuck us both? We’re hot together.” She was still teasing. But it was also a distraction, a deflection from what she and Ryden had been talking about earlier. Plus she did know that they were both good in bed. As far as being needy, she only offered a shrug and, “Like five minutes ago you told me I was shit at taking care of myself and having to buy me something strong is what you get for rude comments like that.” She was teasing and deflecting again. But this time she was relying on Ruby’s drunkenness to keep them from getting too deep into it. Besides, it couldn’t be that big a deal if she could joke about it. Right?

“A'ight, so, ya two make up yer mind and keep me posted,” Ryden dropped those reins cause it was getting out of control and it amused him to no ends to find out where this discussion would end up at. But he had to point out the following to Maya. “Okay, so, me tellin’ ya you can’t take care of yerself calls for you to prove just HOW MUCH ya can’t take care of yerself? Hands down, ya got me there.”

Ruby snorted. “So needy tonight….” she grinned, repeated Ryden’s earlier tease back at him. But something else caught her ear too before she could make another threesome comment. “You can be pretty shit at takin’ care of yourself…” Ruby noted casually. “I mean usually you’re bombass… but come on… we practically got chased through a mirror house by one of those crazies just the other day.”

To say that Maya’s plan hadn’t gone like she expected would be an understatement. Later, much later, it would make her think about her life in New York and why anyone used to let her get away with deflections so obvious. She pulled her arm out to make a surrendering gesture, “Hey man, I’m just trying to get a free drink out of you.” Her expression blanked though when Ruby spoke. She hadn’t counted on that. But she gave an over-exaggerated smile, “But I’m still here. Thus, proving my point.” Instead of slipping her arm back around Ryden, she crossed them over her chest. She swallowed and glanced over her shoulder. It was fine. She could joke about it. She was fine.

Pursing his lips, Ryden was quiet for another moment, just to see if Maya would dig her own grave just a bit deeper. Seriously, this girl never learned. Whatever she was hiding, it was impossible that he’d never find out. Finally, he turned to Ruby. “Imagine that, she hadn’t told me yet, so do continue.” This was Ruby’s cue to share whatever Maya wouldn’t.

“Nothin’ else happened,” Ruby amended. “But there was this… guy. Watchin’ us. Even Hermes saw him. But then he was gone. Figured he was just some perv…” Ruby shrugged. “The three of us - Aedan was there too - made a run at the funhouse… guy followed us… nearly caught up to us in the mirror hall. Run as in we decided to try it out… not like we were… runnin’ from him or anything.” Ruby frowned, trying to remember that night. “We got out the emergency exit, locked the guy in… after that… we went home." 

"See, just some perv,” Maya replied. She wrapped her arms tighter around herself. She couldn’t help but glance over her shoulder again. Still, there was no one there, but she couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched.

“Some perv who I’m pretty sure smelled like those cult fuckers that came to your house…” Ruby cut in. 

“Uh-huh…” Ryden might’ve had too many cogs punched out of him throughout his life, but when what was left had to turn, they turned fast and with a purpose. “A perv doesn’t follow a group of people. Ever. They’d single out a person when they’re alone. And even if this perv is infinitely stupid and gits his kicks from gettin’ caught, he could be after Ruby or that Irishman. Not you in particular. Ruby don’t seem bothered. You do, though.” Then Ruby added this little tidbit about a cult and Ryden’s frown deepened. “What kind of cult?”

Maya swallowed. She stopped walking, arms wrapped as tight around herself as they would go. Ryden was right and they all knew it. Some perv wouldn’t act like the guy that night had. She’d met enough of them to know. “I can take care of myself, okay? I’ve been taking care of myself for a long time,” she argued. She didn’t bother trying to argue that it wasn’t the cult or that they hadn’t been following her. At this point, it was useless. “Whether or not the two of you believe it, I’m not some damsel in distress who needs rescuing.”

“Of course yer fuckin’ not. No one’s actually sayin’ that. I’m a nosy prick and I want to mess up your shit and you can’t stop me, fuck you. I’m crashin’ at her place for a while, by the way.” Ryden informed Ruby on that last note.

Ruby wasn’t bothered as far her own safety was concerned. Perhaps that was foolish, but she could handle herself, and when she couldn’t, she’d learned to outright ask for help. She knew that Maya wasn’t one to do that though. And Ruby didn’t judge. She’d tried to get her friend to listen, and in Maya’s own way, she had. The charms on her apartment. Hermes. But denial didn’t help the situation. “Ain’t nobody said you can’t,” Ruby told Maya. “We also ain’t said you need rescuin’. But your goddamn prides gonna get you somewhere you can’t talk your way out of.” Ruby might’ve been a little drunk, but that only loosened her tongue. “Good. I tried to stay. She kicked me out,” Ruby said. Which wasn’t 100% the truth. Ruby had stayed awhile, until she knew Maya had fallen asleep. But Maya hadn’t wanted her to stay at all.

“I’m going home,” Maya announced. She immediately turned and started to walk away. Mostly, she didn’t want them to see her start to cry. She was so completely terrified that she didn’t know what else to do. Not of Ruby and Ryden of course, but of this cult and of the person she was when she was scared. Hermes followed at her heels with one hopeful look back at the werewolves.

“Sure, okay, whatever.” Ryden shrugged, trailing after Maya with his hands stuffed into his pockets. “Ya gunna hang? I know where she hides her vodka.” Ryden threw that over his shoulder at Ruby.

Maybe it was cruel to have seemingly ruined Maya’s night. But it wasn’t as if the subject hadn’t been brought up. Offhandedly or not. And it was only concern for her friend that had moved Ruby to speak. “Course I am,” Ruby said, following the others.
