#and I'm over here like she doesn't need to be less headstrong she needs better motor skills
Not to be mean or anything but Louisa Musgrove's actual fall is so funny in any filmed adaptation of Persuasion it's just like. Oh! Look at that full adult jump into open air when Frederick is clearly not ready to catch her, clearly she is going through her infomercial actor phase girl's gotta pay the bills I guess.

✉ extraordinary attorney woo | ep 15 thoughts brother, boston, and being the bad guy
please don't read if you're as sad as i am, i'm just gonna make it worse
brother
i'm gonna give my thoughts on the people involved in the case.
first off, atty jang
who
tf
does this guy think he is????
his opening statement was funny but that's the only positive i can say about him. and the fact that although the entire ep he was constantly mad at youngwoo, we also saw him get embarrassed and humbled down by the judge and his own co-workers. even ceo han.
dasurv.
he's a jerk. that's it.
you know someone who also has very limited redeeming qualities? kwon minwoo.
tactician kwon minwoo will always be tactician kwon minwoo. he's still that same annoying attorney who just won't stop poking his nose in youngwoo's life and using dirty old tricks to get ahead. despite him having his own reasons that made us understand his intentions better, he's still that guy who called youngwoo a wild card and thinks she has it easy (which isn't true).
he also conspired with her mom, the enemy, to get her fired. have we forgotten that?? i hope they bring it up soon T-T
the redemption arc they're trying to give him really shined this episode, especially when suyeon confessed to him. the "changing for love" trope just doesn't work after all he's done and it won't work if they pushed it at the very last minute of the second to the last episode. he hasn't changed at all. he's a straight line that had a small tiny bump and then went back to being the same guy he was, except now he magically got the girl. no arc.
he's still tactician kwon minwoo through and through. that one scene with the reporters wasn't enough to completely redeem him. even when they stood up against atty jang, which good for him and as he should, but -
BUT.
he did that for suyeon and not youngwoo
he can't be redeemed if he's still a jerk.
"i like guys who are like that" GIRL STAND UP
he did it for suyeon okay sure, but what about youngwoo? what about everything he's done to her, what will he do to make up for that? and is he even willing to do so?
(but i'm glad they slammed atty jang and won the case without his help. do it again!!)
i need a formal apology from minwoo to youngwoo to make me dislike him less, thanks. a 100-page apology essay back to back, size 12 single spacing.
suyeon is still spring sunshine choi suyeon. bad taste in men can't change that.
she's headstrong and confident since day 1, and she can shut down anyone, any MEN, who refuse to listen to her and youngwoo. she's also very thoughtful (when she saw junho eat alone and wanted to invite him over, and when she asked youngwoo if she wanted some choi suyeon gimbap) and at the end of the day, she's still youngwoo's friend.
she also knows what she wants in a man, and she's not changing herself for anyone. HE needs to change to deserve her.
even though they hinted at this rivals to lovers trope, and i said it's not that surprising this happened, i was silently praying they won't push through with it. but every drama needs a 2nd couple, i suppose.
that's the only reason i'm seeing here.
youngwoo didn't deserve any of the crap atty jang said to her, and all the crap minwoo said about her behind her back.
but you know who she does deserve?
atty jung.
atty jung and youngwoo's father-daughter/mentor-mentee relationship is the saving grace of this episode. their bond made these last few eps bearable from the pain. they've grown so well together!! but, and i know papa gwangho does the best that he can, atty jung has given so much more helpful advice to youngwoo that he seems more of the father figure to her than papa gwangho sometimes. (or is it just because we're not getting much scenes with papa gwangho and youngwoo anymore?)
when he advised junho to get the girl back, that's what a dad would usually do.
when he advised youngwoo to talk to her colleagues when she's having a hard time, very Dad-like advise. that was driven by genuine concern and want to encourage. he only wants the best for her. he's now pushing her forward like a father watching his child take their first steps.
only this time, it's atty jung in the hospital, patiently waiting for whatever decision youngwoo will make in her grand finale.
(they're the best, i swear. i bumped atty jung to top 2 in my list, just above junho. more on that later.)
youngwoo cheering him on before his surgery was so wholesome!!
Tumblr media
"please come back alive!"
and he did!
i love the slice of life scenes with the hanbadaz + geurami and minsik! again, i just love seeing them all together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(but i can't believe minwoo got to step into hairy's pub first before junho, like???)
now on to the brother.
they sprinkled little bits and pieces about him throughout the series - points for that one. so, it's not terribly out of place, and they definitely waited until the very last minute to reveal it for the shock factor. it makes sense to me that the final case for this season involves tae sumi, the big bad. the mother plot is finally coming together. but why wait until the final ep?
i really hope it ties every loose end and not leave us confused and with 197437 different plotholes.
i don't know how it's all going to play out, but i'm glad the brother is here now and they're going to try and clear things up. my only hope is that they do it right.
we're also going to get, i think, youngwoo being an older sister and i'm so looking forward to that!! she'll protect him with every fiber of her being, i'm sure, no matter if he'll turn out good or bad.
boston
they're dangling this right in front of our noses.
"she should leave for a bit, consider it a paid vacation"
"she'll have better care in boston"
LIKE WHY DO THESE WOMEN THINK THEY KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOUNGWOO
even if it isn't to boston, is she actually going to leave? where would she go? will she go alone? would it really be the best for her to leave?
i honest to god have no clue. the eaw whale nation discord have ideas that might be better than what we're about to get, but me personally? i'm stumped. or i'm just sad and can't think clearly i don't know. either way, they're really pushing this possibility. and they haven't addressed this at all, only sprinkles of hints that she might be leaving for her own good, which makes me think that they're pushing through with this kind of ending.
say sike rn please
i just want her to be happy by the end of all of this. that's the whole point!!
being the bad guy
i saw one person on twt said junho was the bad guy in this ep and *breathes in* let me just make it my problem even though it doesn't have to be and it was literally just one tweet (that got a lot of likes, so) and i'm just being overly defensive
so - *presents slides*
first of all, no.
second of all, no.
and lastly, why would you even think that?
he made mistakes, but those mistakes don't make him the bad guy. (just as much as minwoo's few good deeds don't make him the good guy or a "green flag" either) we all know who the actual bad guy is. we're just blinded by the rivals to lovers trope shoved at our throats, begging us to accept him as the good guy now.
but no.
in junho's defense
the not-personal hug chair scene? junho acted the way he did as if they weren't dating (like in ep 5!!!), which they aren't. feelings or no feelings. he didn't want to crowd her, be in her space. she needed someone, yes, but he wasn't that someone anymore - at least, that's what he thinks. he respects youngwoo so much, from the very first ep and until now. and her consent is very important to him.
it was a heartbreaking scene, and i understand the take that he should've checked on her at the very least, but please also understand why he didn't do it in that moment.
when atty jang asked junho to drive off without the others
now this
this is that thing that's been bothering me, i mentioned it in a post earlier.
junho was someone who
stood in front of youngwoo to shield her from the jacket that the old man wanted to throw at her
beat up his acquaintance for talking bs
shoved his friend and roommate so hard he fell because he wasn't being fair
drove through traffic to catch up with a taxi for his girl
and has given this look of death to clients for being douchebags
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and you're telling me
that this is the same dude who can't get out of the car for 2 seconds to protect his girl???
i can defend him, but i need to rant first.
atty jang is a jerk, we know that, the audience knows that. junho knows that. he literally saw jang leave the others, THE ROOKIES, there to deal with the reporters and forced him to drive away, completely abandoning them without a quick and safe way home.
couldn't junho have waited?? couldn't junho have told jang, very respectfully, that no i'm staying here until they're safe?? or screw you i'm gonna do what you were supposed to do which is protect them and guide them away from this mess
even if jang eventually drove off on his own, it wouldn't matter because junho would've chosen a side, his girl and his co-workers/friends. it's not like they're complete strangers.
this happening after the not-hug chair scene is especially painful.
i'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he looked liked he really didn't want to leave at all
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but if a senior attorney yelled at me, an average joe litigation assistant, i would follow orders.
that's my only defense about this. he was just following orders because he's lee junho from the litigation team, the ever obedient, kind, and helpful man who is at your beckon call. he can't risk losing this job or getting reprimanded. that's not something that he'd do, given his years at hanbada and the fact that atty jung trusts him a lot.
but he's also lee junho-ssi, who promised to be youngwoo's personal hug chair, who has done research to help youngwoo in any way he can, who apparently loves her so gosh darn much that it pained him that she broke up with him. and he just... left her there? when he knows just how bad loud crowds are for her?
again, i get it. but am i still disappointed? yes.
i still like his character very much. i still think that he can be the right partner for youngwoo.
but not like this.
everybody has said it better than i can, but they have a lot of things to talk about. they gave the scene wherein youngwoo told him the reason they're not together anymore. right now? ball is in his court.
SHOOT YOUR SHOT AGAIN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
he told her she's someone who can make him happy, and that's the truth.
when she brought up the argument that she will also make him feel lonely and she isn't sure if she can do something about that, he hesitated because there's truth to it.
he has never lied to her once, which is a character trait i admire about him. but he needs to step up now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he needs to say something (please let this be his epiphany moment where he realizes he NEEDS TO SAY SOMETHING)
they both need to sit down and talk, otherwise a happy ending won't make sense.
i asked for patience and honesty. we got that.
Tumblr media
but it hurts.
i keep replaying this preview over and over again, and i don't know if this means a happy ending or not but i'm betting that they'll be okay in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
happiness for both of them is what we need, and clearly, they're both the happiest when they're together.

So I bindged watched the entry of Metal Family (a Russian YouTube series) and its absolutely adorable. My favorite characters are Glam and Dee because obviously I'm always gunna go for either the goofy dad type with a tragic backstory and the sarcastic little smartass.
Anyway, I've been hearing around that Dee might have a girlfriend and as much as I like the idea of him having a cool laidback goth gf, I just can't picture it. He probably doesn't like to admit it but I think Dee and his dad have similar taste in women; ie badasses who are slightly batshit crazy.
Meet Sasha, they were put together as tutors for each other, she was failing math while he was failing art.
At first glance Sasha seems like a sweet, giggly, airhead with an affinity for tacky jewelry and thrift store clothes. Which is of course what Dee assumed when he offered his usual method of helping her cheat her way through her classes.
She smiled at him and called him: a pig-headed narcissistic asshole who couldn't smell the rancid shit coming out of his own mouth.
Yeah, turns out she isn't stupid just has really bad ADHD and needed someone to help her study math because her brain finds it too boring and therefore unimportant to focus on.
Their relationship is sort of similar to Glam and Ches when they first met; Sasha being a witty yet odd character while Dee struggles to makes sense of what the hell she's saying sometimes.
Because of her ADHD Sasha tends to switch out hobbies like socks; she especially likes activities that keep her hands occupied, such as knitting or origami. Dee has no idea how she can multy task so many things at once.
She is very forward and can be quite blunt when speaking her mind, though she tries her best to remain polite.
She is a big fan of grunge music and punk rock. Nirvana and Foo Fighters being her favorite.
She is the third oldest of six, so middle child syndrome all the way!
She's a bit of an anarchist and can often be found during the weekend tagging government property or big name brand store. Somehow she never seems to get caught.
Her parents are ex-punks so they aren't really surprised or disappointed with their daughter's antics so long as she doesn't get arrested. (More on her family later)
She knitted Dee a beanie during one of their study sessions, it was black with little cat ears. Now he wears it any time its even remotely breezy outside.
Heavy was the first to meet Sasha since they go to the same school. He couldn't understand how such a sweet girl could be friends with his asshole of a brother. She simply giggled and ruffled his hair, stating how Heavy remind her of her own younger siblings.
After that meeting people suddenly stopped bullying him. It was weird but Heavy wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth so he didn't question it. He did, however, wonder why Sasha had a baseball bat in her locker when she didn't even play the sport.
When Dee first invited Sasha over to hang out he made sure that his family would be out all day, because he knew that they would all make it their personal mission to embarrass him in front of her.
That plan backfired very quickly as they returned much earlier than expected and the two teens had been in the living room watching movies and cuddling.
Victoria adored her immediately, insisting she say over for dinner all the while making cheeky remarks at Dee to "make sure to keep her happy so she won't realize that she can do better."
Glam had meant to interrogate her, as he is secretly an over protective father at heart, but he was just so damn charmed by her he didn't have the nerve to do it. Instead he ended up showing her the boys' baby pictures (much to Dee and Heavy's protest).
Her and Ches vibed so well together, it was kind of weird and fascinating to observe. They later find out that Sasha is probably the only person out their that can beat both Glam and Ches in poker.
By the end of it Dee is red in the face with embarrassment and when he escorts her to the bus stop he apologizes if it was all a bit overwhelming. Sasha simply giggled, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek assuring him that she really likes his family and can't wait to come over again.
Of course Sasha was the first to confess because Dee still had no idea about his feelings. Thought it was less a confession and more of a statement as if it was something she assumed he already knew.
He didn't, obviously.
Sasha knew that Dee liked her back but she needed for HIM to come to that conclusion himself if they had any hope of starting a relationship. So she remained patient and waited for him to catch up.
Though this did NOT stop her from teasing and flirting with him just a little 😋
She really couldn't help it, Dee was way too cute when he got all flustered and shy (much like his mother in that regards).
So they aren't OFICIALLY dating but they are together, kind of like a trial run (according to Dee at least).
ABOUT HER FAMILY:
Her parents are high school sweethearts that used to ride around town with Victoria and her old crew.
Sasha's mom is a headstrong yet laid back woman that runs the local laundry mat, popular with bikers as it specializes in cleaning leather. Her father is this big, burly, stoic man that works in construction and doesn't tend to say much. They love each other and their children very much.
Sasha has an older sister and brother as well as three younger siblings, twin boys and a little sister. Her older sister is living in England while also going to college to study political science. Her older brother is on his last year of high school and works as a mechanic at a local bike shop. Her twin brothers are in middle school, just a year below Heavy, while her little sister is just starting the first grade.
When Sasha invites Dee over to her house to study he is greeted at the door by her father who looms over him, glaring daggers. Dee may have seen his life flash before his eyes for a just moment.
Thankfully, her mother was much nicer, inviting him in as she called Sasha downstairs. Her younger siblings were very rowdy, asking him questions about who he is and why he was here. Her older brother however, joined along side his father to glare holes into his head.
He was all too thankful when Sasha finally came downstairs to get him, announcing that they would be in her room studying until dinner. Her older brother shouted after them to "keep the door open" and Sasha gave a cheery reply of two middle fingers in his direction.
Dinner was awkward, at least for Dee, but it wasn't terrible. By the end of it, when they were hanging around the bus stop, Sasha (who insisted on seeing him off as he usual does) proudly said: "I think they like you."
"Oh really?" Dee said with a nervous chuckle, he wasn't quite sure but he trusted her judgment. 🖤🖤🖤

Giulio Moretti - HPMA Character Profile
template by me // images created using the zepeto app
Tumblr media
NOTE: I am a cisgender female. As such, I have been hesitant to make a trans oc and will not be going into much detail about Giulio's experiences specifically related to his gender. If anything in here feels iffy to anyone not cisgender, please let me know and I'll correct it
Personal
Full Name: Giulio Antonio Moretti
Gender: Male (trans)
Sexuality: Demisexual, polyamorous
Birthday: June 1st
Age: 11
Birthstone: Alexandrite
Zodiac Sign: Gemini
Blood Status: Full Veela
- I'm mostly using these headcanons written by @carmilla-the-bird, though over time I might end up changing a couple details
- I'm not certain if full Veelas would even use wands/go to magic school but these ones do because I say so
- What I'm specifically adding is that since HPMA takes place later than the full HP series, there has been a new method developed to allow full veelas to better coexist with wizards. This comes in the form of a clear gemstone that can be inserted into any piece of jewelry, usually necklaces. While the stone is worn, the charm [or allure, as I call it] that all veelas have while glamored is dampened by up to 80%. Another effect is that when angered, the veela won't be able to lash out with their fire magic, unless they've trained their magic well enough that's it's less of an instinct and more of a conscious choice. Minors are legally required to wear it at all times, except in their own home with only their family around. Once an adult the veela can choose whether they want to wear it or not. The stone has a similar trace to underaged magic, so when a Veela who's a minor takes it off, the Ministry is alerted and their location will be tracked
3 Positive Traits:
- Empathetic
- Resourceful
- Playful
3 Negative Traits:
- Irritable
- Addictive
- Pessimistic
Usual First Impression: When meeting Giulio, most people see him as a spoiled and stuck up little boy. This isn't true. He's just very wary of strangers, so he doesn't tend to leave a good first impression. Once he's more comfortable around someone, his positive traits outshine the more negative ones
Location
Birthplace: A Veela-specific clinic in southern Italy. His mother travelled there for all of her children's births, and the midwife there is the woman who delivered her
Current Home: His family home in England, a medium sized house under a strict Fidelius charm, which his aunt is the Secret Keeper for. His bedroom is on the second floor, looking out over the fish pond in the backyard
Future Home(s): Fresh out of Hogwarts he'll share an apartment with Lori with heavily warded Floo access. Later homes TBD once his love interests are planned out
Favorite Place: The little house the family rents for a month every summer in southern Italy. The town is full of good culture, and better yet, good food. It feels peaceful, even when there's a loud festival going on
Disliked Place: The woods a mile down the road from his home. The woods are the last place Giulio saw his grandmother before she went missing, and now they feel like they're haunted. He refuses to go on walks there anymore
Appearance
Tumblr media
Face Shape: Round, slightly pointy chin
Eye Color: Deep teal
Hair Color: Whitish blond
Hair Style: Self cut (horrifies his mother), slightly uneven, medium length. Not brushed every day, fluffy
Skin Tone: Pale
Freckles/Spots: A few beauty marks on his face, two near his right eye and one on the left side of his chin
Scars: None yet
Piercings/Tattoos: None
Height: 5'7" [fully grown]
Weight: ~ 135 lbs [fully grown]
Physique: Thin. Luckily for him, Giulio's family has always had rather "boyish" bodies - wide shoulders, not very curvy - but he's still got too much woman in him to be fully happy with his form
Clothing Style: Baggy tops, loose pants, nothing fancy. Giulio tries to attract as little attention as possible, because while he's glamored people stare at him a lot anyway, even with the dampener. He does like colored pants, but his tops are usually grey and black. His dampening necklace is the most eye catching thing he wears (as it was a gift from his missing grandmother) and he wishes he could take it off, but he legally can't
Carried Items:
- The last picture of him, his sisters, and his grandmother ever taken
- A lighter. He likes having the fire near him since he can't access his own fire magic
- His hair scissors, for whenever he feels like it needs to be trimmed
- A container of Silly Putty he got from a Muggle convenience store
- His water bottle
Magic
Wand: 10" Veela hair wand in Fir wood. A very pale colored wand that's a bit rough around the edges. The hair is from his younger sister Martina, who yanked the strand right out and handed it to the wandmaker after no wands appeared to choose a very defeated looking Giulio. The wand was made while Giulio watched, and he checked it many times throughout the process to make sure it felt like it would have him, which it did.
Animagus: As a veela, Giulio can transform into pretty much any bird shape. He has no need to go through the animagus process
Boggart Form: Him, fully matured, very womanly, and in a wedding gown just like the ones his older sister Alessia fawns over
Riddikulus Form: Him in a ridiculously exaggerated Bloody Baron costume
Amortentia (to others): Someone smelling Giulio would smell new pillows, the faint burning metal scent that clings to him, and the dry shampoo he uses
Amortentia (to them): He doesn't smell any sort of romantic interest yet. What he smells now are safe, comforting smells, like the cigars his mother and aunt smoke, the perfume all his sisters use, and the smell of his favorite restaurant in southern Italy
Patronus: Bird of Paradise
Happiest Memory: Receiving his wand once it was completed, and finally feeling the connection and power he'd heard so much about but thought he'd never have
Mirror of Erised: Some might consider it sad, but all he sees is him, happy, the way he wishes he was - including not looking at all like a Veela. Someday this will change
Family Spells: It's not really a spell, but the Morettis have a particular bird call that, when paired with the right charm, will alert every living family member to the caller's location, should one desperately need help. It's only to be used in emergencies. Giulio isn't sure he wants to know why his grandmother never used it
Inherent Magic: Veela stuff - storm sense, fire, bird transformations, allure, slight levitation abilities
Family
Grandmother: Francesca is not an ideal parental figure. She grew up in a time when full Veelas were treated with nearly the same suspicion and prejudice as werewolves, so she's very anti-human. However, she was still one of Giulio's best defenders and most treasured family members. She places a huge importance on family and is the one who came up with the idea of the special danger call. Francesca went missing when Giulio was seven, and there have been no clues as to what happened.
Mother: Valentina is a kind, gentle woman who cares for her family before anyone else. She and her sister were taught all their lives to be nothing more than a pretty face, and while Bianca rejected this, Valentina embraced it. Even now, with her own mother nowhere to be found, she has trouble remembering to be herself. She wears her necklace at all times, terrified to be without it
Father: Giulio never knew him. He's not sure he even has one
Aunt: Bianca is, in many ways, the exact opposite of her sister. Bianca embraces all of her less than proper instincts, and even walks around in public completely unglamored, acting as a good deterrent to anyone who might want to come say hi, innocent intentions or not. Gets angry very easily, and has caused public property damage more often than Valentina would appreciate
Sisters: Two older sisters, one younger. All Slytherins while in school
- Alessia, six years older, prefect. A headstrong young woman who takes advantage of her allure to get what she wants, and is skilled enough to fight off anyone who gets too "friendly". She likes to have a collection of boy toys she never lets get too close, but secretly only has eyes for the Hufflepuff prefect, Lina.
- Emilia, four years older, Quidditch captain. Hates her allure with a passion and refuses to even think about romance until she's out of school. Could kick anyone's ass, and will do so if she feels the need to. Very protective of Giulio, has gotten into at least eight shouting matches with those who misgender him
- Martina, one year younger. The baby of the family. A bit of a spoiled brat, and too young to fully understand exactly why her older siblings are all so wary of strangers, or letting her out of their sight. She dreams of being the Minister of Magic, and of being able to take her "stupid, ugly, and stupid" necklace off for good
Pets: The two family screech owls which trade off being at school/home, and an Abraxan Giulio found on Hogwarts grounds that likes him a lot
Family Values: The Morettis hold nothing higher than each other. The family's main priority is sticking together, and always doing whatever they can to help each other achieve whatever they wish. The family is also, as a whole, rather reclusive
Opinion of Family: Giulio loves his family. For all their faults, they hold true to their values and he couldn't imagine one of them ever betraying another. Even if they won't ever truly understand him, they've all tried and they do what they can, and it means more than he can say
Friendships
Introverted or Extroverted: Introverted
Best Friend: Oleander Loris. Her anger issues, her weird pink eyes, and her tendency to drag him along to social outings are all things that Giulio comes to appreciate over time. He originally became curious about her on the train ride to school, when she stumbled looking at his older sisters but didn't notice him at all, and they spoke for the first time in Flying class. Lori is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and the fact that she's not affected by his allure in the slightest makes him feel really happy
Worst Friend: TBD
Friend He Didn't Expect: Cassandra. They aren't the best of friends, and maybe they can't be considered friends at all, but she doesn't hold the contempt she seems to hold for most others for him
Who He Wishes Was His Friend: Kestra Fernera. She's got fire powers, and she doesn't have to be chained down by the Ministry. He thinks she's super cool, and is very jealous of her and how popular she is, but he's far too nervous to try and talk to her
List of Casual Friends:
- Brian Haywood-Reese @catohphm
- others TBD, but likely the main cast of the game. Mc friends welcome, if any are interested!
Romance
Current Crush: None
Current Partner: None
Past Partners: None
Future Partners: TBD
His Type: Pretty much anyone who's able to look past the allure that Giulio hates so much and also isn't afraid of him in his natural form, though most people haven't even seen it
Hogwarts
House: Slytherin
Prefect Status: No
Quidditch: Not on the team, but plays casually
Clubs: TBD
Organizations: None
Favorite Class: Flying. Duh
Least Favorite Class: Potions. It gives him a headache surrounded by all the fumes
Favorite Professor: TBD
Least Favorite Professor: TBD
Timeline
Young Childhood:
- Giulio realizes young that he hates the idea of being a girl, and insists that his mother change his name. His family thought it was a phase, but once they realized it wasn't, they became more serious and started to see what they could do to help him
- He's a sheltered child, learning early the importance of staying close to a trusted adult. He sees the horrors of what can happen to a Veela caught unaware at a young age when he almost loses his mother to someone who wanted to sell her, and never looks at strangers the same way again
- At five years old Giulio is given his dampener necklace. He refuses to wear it until his grandmother forcibly puts it on him. He decides it's not that bad, though it feels like it's choking him and he doesn't like the muted feeling in his hands that comes from the loss of his instinctual magic
- At seven years old, Giulio is on a walk with his grandmother in the woods when he hears a loud screech. She sends him back toward the house, saying she'll be right behind him. Hours pass, and she never follows. There's no evidence as to what that screech was, or what happened to his grandmother
- At eleven years old, Giulio spends a week traveling to different wandmakers around Europe trying to find a wand so he can go to school in the fall. For some reason, his magic is picky and not a single wand even comes close to working for him. When he's given up all hope, his little sister Martina asks if the wandmaker takes custom orders, and rips out her own hair to be used for Giulio's wand. It's the first time Giulio cries happy tears, hovering his hand over the uncompleted wand and feeling it call to him already
School Years: TBD once I'm able to play the game
Post Graduation: Giulio moves into an apartment with Lori soon after graduating. While she immediately starts work, Giulio takes time to find some higher education, and work on training his Veela magic now that he can take his necklace off whenever he wants
Career(s): TBD
Marriage and Children: TBD
Death: Giulio will be murdered by [redacted] in order to save [redacted]'s life, but he'll be very old (around 200) and will have outlived his lovers, so he doesn't see it as too much of a shame. He'll be buried in the family garden and have some lovely flower bushes planted over him
Notable Facts Not Previously Mentioned
- The Veela magic in Giulio recognizes him as a boy as soon as he does. When his allure kicks in, anyone attracted to men finds themself affected, while those strictly into women do not, even though male Veelas are practically unheard of
- His aunt Bianca paid a personal visit to Hogwarts before he was enrolled, ready to throw flames if he was going to be put into the female dorms. Luckily, she didn't need to worry, as once the situation was explained it was settled with a simple change in his paperwork
- Giulio hates being cooped up indoors for too long. Even in the coldest days of winter, he'll spend as much time as possible outside
- Starting in third year, Lori will figure out how to get the necklace off of him without alerting anyone [putting it on herself within a few seconds], and Giulio will occasionally spend a few hours free and in his natural form in the Forbidden Forest. Unbeknownst to him, wearing the necklace saps at Lori's magical core, and it takes her a day or so to regain her strength if she wears it for more than thirty minutes
- Giulio will likely have three partners in the future. He could never even imagine having one, so if his younger self was told he would have three he would probably have a difficult time believing it
- Cutting his hair so frequently doesn't affect his magic like his mother feared it would, though he does feel nauseous when he does it
- The dark teal eyes are something only he and his sisters have, which is how he knows they all have the same "father" or whatever they had. His mother, aunt, and grandmother all have the traditional black eyes. Not even Alessia ever saw any type of man around when her younger siblings were born, so there are no clues as to how the four of them exist
- As much as he hates the dampener, it does him a lot of good when he's younger. He gets angry easily and often feels very defensive, so without it he could have gotten into a lot of trouble
- Though he doesn't like his allure, Giulio will sometimes take advantage of it like Alessia does if he wants to get out of something. He won't fight it, he'll play nice, and let whoever he needs to back off get a little dazed
- He wanted to hide the fact that he was a Veela when he first came to Hogwarts, but with two older sisters and his allure he couldn't

Fic or Treat: how about smth based on your post the other day where Foggy doesn't realize he's in love with Matt 'objectively 11/10, anything less is heresy' Murdock? 😂 (it's been DAYS & i'm still thinking abt it so here we are LOL)
So this is somehow simultaneously set before Defenders and after DDS3 idk man, whatever.
Props to @kat8porgs and @thosemintcookies and @letsgetthisblog for helping me come up with some Dudes Hotter Than Matt Murdock, lol
Matt Murdock is pretty much the hottest guy on the planet. It’s an objective fact. There’s a lot of times Foggy despairs of this, but he’s never once questioned it; his best friend is a solid 10/10. Probably 11/10 when he does that one really sappy smile that only makes an appearance when he’s completely at ease or super drunk.
Misty Knight does not seem to agree, based on the unimpressed look on her face.
And look, there’s no accounting for taste, but Matt’s on another level. His appeal is undeniably universal. Like, as much as people have teased Foggy about fawning over Matt, it’s not gay or anything. Really. He’s just secure enough in his masculinity to be able to recognize how unfairly smokin’ hot his bff is. It’s a purely platonic observation, and the proof is that everyone else thinks Matt’s hot too.
“He’s not hot,” Misty says flatly, pushing Foggy’s phone back to the center of the cafe table.
It’s got one of Foggy’s best pictures of Matt on it — sitting at his desk in their office, hands scanning over some document or other and a look of intense concentration on his face. The lighting’s just right to show the red in his glasses and highlight his jaw.
“Are you high?” Foggy demands, jabbing a finger at the screen. “Just look at him! He’s beautiful!”
Misty snorts, then puts up her hands when Foggy glares at her.
“Look,” she begins, very obviously and condescendingly humoring him, “I’m not saying he’s ugly or anything, but when you say ‘ungodly man-beauty’ I expect to see some, y’know, ungodly man beauty. This? This is a generic-looking white boy.”
She’s lost it. That’s the only explanation. There’s nothing generic about Matt. Foggy tells her so, and her eyes sharpen a little with interest, though her mouth stays firmly in that ‘oh you poor fool’ smirk. In truth, maybe challenging a headstrong detective isn’t the smartest move; Misty is very perceptive. Not that Foggy has anything to hide. Because he doesn’t. And even if he did, he’s not necessarily known for making smart, rational decisions. Case in point: knocking out mobsters with a baseball bat, associating with someone reckless enough to earn the moniker Daredevil, and dating Marci Stahl not just once but twice.
Misty spins the phone back around and takes a second look, but there’s no dawning realization in her eyes. She shakes her head.
“And you couldn’t have gotten a picture sometime after he remembered how to use a razor?” she asks.
Foggy, of course, is offended on behalf of Matt’s pleasantly stubbly jaw. Matt looks good all the time, but he looks a lot less baby-faced with a little bit of facial hair — Foggy’s not sure whether a full-on beard would work well for Matt, but the stubble looks just right.
“The scruffiness is part of his charm!” he insists.
“He looks like a sad hobo in a business suit,” comes Misty’s totally ruthless reply.
Foggy has to gather his phone to his chest to protect Matt’s picture from such hurtful words.
“Sad hobo? We’re not talking about Rand again, are we? Because I got an earful from Hogarth the last time I suggested someone that rich should get better-fitted suits,” a familiar voice cuts in.
“Marci!” Foggy perks up — at last, a voice of cold, neutral sanity! “You’re finally here!”
Marci rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling with one eyebrow quirked and her arms subtly open — her usual ‘give me a hug’ posture.
“You didn’t think I’d miss a girls’ day out, did you?”
There’s a sudden, unexpected rush of relief and joy through Foggy’s veins as he thinks about their rekindled friendship. No matter how rough their first breakup was or how awkward their second, he’d missed her a lot in the years they weren’t speaking. He slips his phone into his pocket, then folds Marci into a hug.
“It’s good to see you too, Foggy Bear. I hear it’s been a busy month for you. Getting into heated disagreements with law enforcement again?”
As if he does it all the time! Really, it’s just bickering with Brett. And the people on the vigilante task forces. And those guys who’d been hassling Luke. And... Ok, maybe she has a point. Foggy clears his throat.
“Listen, that’s not important. I need you to tell Misty that she’s crazy. She says Matt’s not objectively attractive. But you saw, he had tons of dates in college, obviously all the girls thought he was hot.”
Marci gives Foggy a pitying smile that begins to erode his confidence with stomach-twisting effectiveness.
“Sweetie, the reason Murdock got so many dates was because he was confident but not a sexist jackhole.” She smirks. “Well. And because he was a big slut and everybody knew it. It’s not like there weren’t hotter guys on campus.”
“Name one,” Foggy orders, putting his hands on his hips like his Ma used to whenever he and Theo broke a window with their baseball.
Marci is a known bitch so she begins listing people off on her fingers.
“That guy Wyatt that Jen Walters started dating after you two broke up. The exchange student from Wakanda that quit second year. Eddie Brock on a good day. Sam Wilson every day. Cranston that one time in 2L when he was definitely trying to score with you. Shall I go on?”
“Tried to—” Foggy’s head is spinning, and he loses whatever argument he’d been cooking up about Matt’s hotness relative to these other guys. “Larry Cranston was a straight up dick, he never tried to score with me!”
“He definitely tried to score with you,” insists Marci. “At that post-midterm party first semester. But he’d already insulted Murdock by that point so you’d erased him from your dating pool and didn’t notice.”
“Well— then good riddance,” Foggy decides.
He continues to argue with Marci and Misty both until Karen arrives. Her face tells Foggy she’s somewhere between concerned and amused, but not enough to stop over before she’s got her drink in hand.
“The last time I saw you this fired up you were taking DA Tower to task,” she greets him. “What’s going on?”
“These two—” Foggy gestures at Marci and Misty— “have clearly lost it.”
“You’re the odd one out here,” says Misty.
But if he can get Karen to join his side, he won’t be — it’ll be fifty-fifty again.
“Look, unlike everyone else in this room she actually dated Matt, she’s got to agree with me. He’s objectively super hot, right, Karen?”
Karen blinks. Then she glances out the window and takes a long, awkward slurp of her coffee. Foggy throws his hands in the air. His perception of the world is literally crumbling around him. Or else everyone else has gone nuts.
“Karen, come on!” Foggy all but pleads. “You dated him!”
“Because he was really sweet to me! It’s not like someone has to be Adonis for me to date them, Foggy, I’m not that shallow! I mean, I like how he looks well enough, but he’s not as hot as, I don’t know, Idris Elba or Jason Momoa or somebody.”
She seems unbothered by the assertion. But, the thing is... Well, movie stars are all well and good, Foggy supposes, but they don’t have Matt’s... Matt-ness. That perfect, undefinable, essence-of-Matt thing that accentuates his natural beauty. Foggy doesn’t know how even Karen could have missed it, but Foggy’s got evidence on his side. He thumbs through the photos on his phone again, stopping on one from a couple months ago.
It’s of Matt, obviously. A closer shot, facing him head on. His hair is ruffled, his glasses are off, and there are small, happy little crinkles at the corner of his eyes. His smile is earnest and stunning. There’s a single fading bruise on his jaw. It’s Foggy’s absolute favorite picture of Matt, incontrovertible proof that Matt’s happiness isn’t trapped in rosy memories of the past. Proof that Daredevil is still Matt, still Foggy’s Matt, that the solid core of their friendship was never a lie.
Foggy wasn’t gonna use this — his final resort — because it’s... It’s private, and close to his heart. Matt keeps these smiles hidden, doesn’t show them to just anybody or for just any reason. It makes Foggy feel like he should guard them too. But the others just don’t get it, and Foggy’s determined to make them understand. Squaring his shoulders, he shoves his phone at Misty.
“There!” he snaps. “Ok? Just— just look at that smile and tell me he’s only average!”
Misty accepts the phone and studies the picture on it for a long, long time.
“I’ll give you the smile,” she admits at last, handing it back. “It is a nice one. But it still only bumps him up to 7/10.”
Foggy’s jaw drops.
“That’s ridiculous!”
“It isn’t though, Foggy Bear,” sighs Marci, raking her manicured nails through her hair. “It’s totally reasonable, you just can’t make an objective judgment because you’re literally in love with him.”
Foggy laughs, but it sounds strained and hysterical even to his own ears.
“Of course I’m not in love with him.”
Karen reaches out and squeezes his shoulder with a look on her face that makes Foggy want to scream.
“Foggy...”
“I’m not!”
Because he’s not. He isn’t, he can’t be. He can’t be in love with Matt, because that would suck. Not loving Matt, any idiot would be lucky to do that, but... Matt has a Type. And regardless of what Marci and Misty and Karen say about Matt’s own attractiveness, it’s at least true that the people Matt goes for are always super beautiful women. That being the criteria, Foggy’s a perfect zero out of a hundred. Being in love with Matt would be an exercise in futility, and more than a little pathetic.
“I’m not, I...” Foggy tries again, staring down at the picture of Matt smiling. “I...” His heart squeezes in his chest. “Oh, god, I’m in love with him.”
When Foggy manages to look up, the others are watching him with concern. That seems appropriate, because he himself is also very concerned, beneath the numbness of his shock.
“Oh, Foggy Bear...” Marci sighs. “I’m sorry. I thought you just didn’t want to admit it out loud. I never realized you didn’t actually know.”
Foggy takes a shaky breath, squeezes his eyes shut until he’s sure he’s not gonna start crying.
“This sucks,” he says, trying to make light of it and failing epically when his voice breaks.
Even though she looks the most uncomfortable, Misty is the first to speak.
“Isn’t it better to know?”
“Not even a little,” Foggy says miserably. “Because he won’t— he wouldn’t want...”
“You don’t know that, Foggy,” Karen tells him.
But he does know that. Matt has a Type, and Foggy isn’t it. He shakes his head.
“What... What am I supposed to do now...?”
“Now,” Karen says firmly, grabbing one of his hands and lacing their fingers together, “we go have our girls’ day out.”
It’s Marci’s turn to choose, so Foggy expects to spend the afternoon day-drinking away his feelings. Instead, he ends up at an animal shelter.
Marci does not like dogs, but she’s very partial to kittens, and doesn’t even seem to mind all the fur getting on her designer clothes. Meanwhile, Karen spends her time making goofy cooing noises to a particularly happy pit bull, and Misty plays fetch with an excitable golden retriever.
“It’s just like Danny,” she jokes, startling a laugh out of Foggy for the first time since his unfortunate realization.
For his own part, Foggy plays a little with as many of the animals as he can, but he’s especially fond of an orange tabby that likes to pounce off of high places. Because of course that’s the one that catches his eye, right? Foggy is, he’s beginning to realize, completely hopeless.
Truthfully, though, hanging out with Misty, Karen, Marci, and the animals does manage to do a good job of keeping his mind off the whole Matt Thing entirely — right up until they drop him off at his apartment. Afterwards, well, there’s nothing to distract him. Foggy spends the evening moping, and maybe eats too much ice cream before curling up under the covers and taking an early night.
He wakes at what the red numbers on his alarm clock assure him is 3:17am. There’s a rapid, ceaseless knocking on his window. Foggy takes a good five seconds to groan into his pillow and then forces himself to get up.
However, he’s barely climbed out of his bed before he’s tackled back into it. A very familiar idiot in a black mask is pinning him to the sheets, gloved hands on his shoulders, knees bracketing his hips.
“Foggy, Foggy—”
“Matt what the fuck?” Foggy wheezes, because— really, what the fuck?
Matt rips off his mask and throws it somewhere. He’s grinning like an idiot, and even in the low light Foggy can tell that the look in his eyes is tender but exhilarated.
“You’re in love with me?” Matt asks, breathless and giddy.
The combination of those words with that unexpected tone means Foggy has to give his brain a few seconds to reboot before he can reply.
“I. I’m. Yes?”
Matt’s smile becomes somehow more dazzling.
“Good,” he says, like a big dork, and tugs Foggy up into a kiss.
It’s a good kiss. Like, a really good kiss. So good that maybe it takes Foggy a few minutes of really good kissing and one pinch to his own arm to be sure it’s not a dream.
Eventually, probably because it’s literally 3:30 in the freaking morning, Matt flops himself down on Foggy’s chest and his ardor cools into sleepy, catlike nuzzling.
“I love you too,” he offers at last, about fifteen minutes after he really ought to have, still pressing tiny kisses to Foggy’s throat.
Foggy can only laugh and gather him closer, disbelief and joy fizzing in his chest like soda.
“Yeah. I kind of figured.”
It’s 8:42 the next morning when Foggy thinks to ask what exactly tipped Matt off about his feelings. Matt’s posture gets cagey and sheepish.
“What?” Foggy asks. “Is it really that bad?”
“Well...”
Matt pulls his cell phone out of his pocket and holds it out for Foggy to take. After some silent prompting, Foggy accepts it and navigates to voicemail amidst the narration of the phone’s screen reader. There’s one message. Cautiously, Foggy clicks play.
“Hey!” Marci’s voice says loudly. “Hey! Answer your phone Murdock, I know you don’t sleep! Fucker.”
She’s pretty clearly drunk. The voicemail only gets more angry and incoherent from there; Foggy’s pretty sure she calls Matt ‘Wal-Mart brand white bread’ at one point, which... Ouch. But she also says a lot of sappy stuff about Foggy deserving the world. And then it returns to the insults when she says that if Matt wasn’t ‘too busy cultivating a greasy Castaway beard’ he would have admitted his ‘stupid, stu— smoof— smooch— schmoopy, that’s the one, schmoopy’ feelings by now because Foggy loves him too and they’re both big idiots making themselves sad for no reason.
“Ah,” Foggy murmurs when the message finally, finally ends. “Well. That’s... Something.”
Matt nods, chokes out a laugh.
“Pretty much,” he agrees.
“Um. I... I’m really sorry about her.”
“No. I, um... I’m glad. You know. That she called,” Matt tells him, and wow that earnest face is too intense for Foggy’s poor weak heart. “I.” Matt straightens his shoulders, takes a deep breath. “I love you.”
“Yeah,” Foggy says wonderingly. “You do, don’t you?”
He can see it now, on Matt’s face — and he suddenly realizes it’s been there a long time, that part of Matt’s indescribable beauty, his Matt-ness, is... Being-in-love-with-Foggy-ness. That Foggy makes Matt as happy as Matt makes him.
“Foggy,” Matt whines, mouth curling down into a slight pout.
“What?” And then it hits him. “Oh! Right. Yeah. I love you too, Matty.”
And like magic, like the flash of sunlight reflecting off glass, it’s back again — Matt’s perfect smile.

How Dany's Paranoia and Jon's Action Paralysis Could Have Almost Made Sense
Tumblr media
Two headstrong and highly self-sufficient individuals meet, clash, earn reciprocal respect and finally fall into an inevitable romance. It's not slow and steady, the relationship hasn't had time to churn through the normal ups and downs. It's a fiery, passionate and all-consuming union. Great story, and would have remained so had the series ended at 0707, or even 0801.
But here's the thing - it's not a long amount of time at all. For either of them.
For Dany, it's not long enough to certifiably prove to herself that Jon isn't like every other man she's known. She can't be certain that he doesn't want to control her, or just use her for her wealth (dragons are better than gold ffs) or even see her only and only as the Dragon Queen.
For Jon, it's not long enough to certifiably prove that she's not like other rulers or conquerors he's known. He can't be certain that once faced with an actual choice between what she wants and what needs to be done, she's going to choose the right option.
Why did I put in the above caveats? Because in the hands of people who actually fucking understood storytelling or gave a damn about the characters, these factors could have been used to weave a compelling tale of two lovers kept apart by insecurities and fears which stem from their actual characterizations. A tale which would not necessitate one of them undergoing snap psychosis to become an irreedeemable mass murderer, or the other to become a weak minded kinslaying fool easily manipulated by someone he isn't even close to.
You want to say that Dany's reaction to learning about Jon's parentage creates a barrier between them? Fine.
Then you focus on HOW Jon found out. WHO told him. You make her being suspicious of the fact that it's the best friend who clearly isn't her greatest fan, and his own brother. You don't make someone whose identity fundamentally stems from grief at being the last of her family suddenly resent Jon for his blood because 'Muh Throne!'
I mean seriously - having Dany be suspicious of Jon solely due to the timing and conditions of the reveal makes much more sense. It doesn't destroy an essential part of her character yet brings up some very real issues with the two of them becoming so entwined so soon.
And for absolute fuck's sake - she would not demand he keep his heritage secret from HIS FAMILY. It's cruel and unfair to Jon, as well as an injustice to Dany's character. But even more importantly - Bran and Sam already know. No matter what, Sansa and Arya would have known anyway.
You want to say Jon will be paralyzed by indecision and won't know what to say to or act around Dany? Fine.
Then you have him completely blindsided at her suspicion. Jon (in the show) is NOT a political person. This is Sam and Bran. One of his oldest friends and his little brother. A Jon written in consistence with his character would have been majorly fucked up by having Rickon die in front of him. He will cling to whatever semblance of family he has left. His memories of Bran is still that young cheerful boy who loved him and looked up to him. That's still the Bran he sees, even in the guise of the 3ER.
He can understand Dany not believing his heritage, but he cannot understand how she can think Sam and Bran (and by extension Jon) are lying and manipulating her. He starts wondering if he was wrong, if she's not the great liberator and perfect monarch he thought her to be. And if she's not, then she's here at HIS home in HIS land and he doesn't know what to do.
Dany feels alienated and alone and starts to make irrational decisions? Fine.
But JFC, she's not going to get jealous of the fucking Wildlings of all people praising Jon, even if it is a bit much. What Jon did for the Wildlings is legend. He's pretty much the only Westerosi they love and respect. It's absolutely normal for them to gush over him. You would expect the same from the Dothraki for Dany in any similar situation.
But feeling alone because this is a strange land to her and the people keep a clear distance? That will weigh on her. It won't be something as shallow as not getting praised.
She will make irrational decisions in the vein of showing the Northern crowd clearly where power lies by making grand decisions. Dreadfort is unoccupied? Goes to random knight at the back who helped carry the Dothraki bodies to the pyres. Severe etiquette breach by making Northern decisions without involving Jon or Sansa.
But for the love of God, she will NOT push her exhausted armies and especially her own fucking dragon into another war without sufficient rest!! She's a bloody Conqueror and the only one who knows dragons that well! She's not going to pull a pathetic power move which harms only her!
Jon is torn between his family and what he feels for her? Fucking hell yes.
Look, Jon won't be Jon if Arya doesn't make him rethink everything. One of these days I'll rant about Jon-Arya instead of Jon-Dany, but for now I'll just say that Arya is Jon's constant. If Jon is already unsure of Dany for the other reasons mentioned above, he WILL be cripplingly afraid of how it will impact Arya and Bran. (No I'm not including Sansa even though she would be in his thoughts, because the entitled bitch doesn't deserve that consideration.)
He hasn't known Dany long either. It does NOT make sense that he will immediately choose her side over Arya. That he won't even hear her out. It's utterly heinous and stupid how emotionally compromised Dany stans treat Jon's love for his FAMILY as a betrayal.
So there. A short juxtaposition on how it would have MADE SENSE for Jon and Dany to be on opposite sides, desperately in love with each other yet also not entirely sure if they have the right of each other. Suspicion, paranoia, fear and self-doubt make a chilling cocktail. Add to that the horrible deaths of Rhaegal and Missandei, and you have a Dany hanging on by a thread.
But that's the extent of tweaks I can make to the narrative to somewhat stay true to the themes. I can't figure out how Jon wouldn't stay by her side to comfort her. I can't figure out how Dany would simply go Genghis Khan on a poor, downtrodden population. I can't figure out how Jon would be less affected at seeing an injured shell-shocked Arya wandering the ruined streets of KL. I can't figure out how Dany's motivational speeches suddenly become reminiscent of Hitler.
In support of the Jon and Dany we grew to admire and love over the years.

told u i'd write this >:)
i love it so much. i already love this kid. Arthur? Being a dad? Sign me the fuck up.
based off this post by @reddeaddenial ty for letting me write it!!
"Alright, kid," Arthur Morgan sighs, leading the 9-year-old with one hand and his horse with the other. He was muddy and tired, having saved this child from some of the locals after he had been caught stealing from the general store. Never did he anticipate beating a man over a loaf of bread.
"You get yourself in there and stay warm, alright? Make sure to wait for your Mama." The child is quiet. He gently removes his hand from Arthur's cautious grip and stands on the porch of the Valentine Sherriff's Office. His wavy blonde hair partly shielding his sad blue eyes.
Great. Now Arthur felt like an asshole. More than usual this time.
"You'll be alright, I promise." Arthur ensures as he climbs atop his saddle, adjusting his weight for comfort. "See you later, kid."
His ride back to the camp is quiet. He takes in the scenery; the birds chirping, the deer prancing about, the god-rays through the pinetrees. He was mentally locking this image in his mind for later, to draw when he was bored, or when he couldn't sleep, or both.
As he approached the camp, he spotted Bill, taking his shift for guard duty.
"Who's there?" Bill shouts.
"It's Arthur, dumbass."
"Welcome ba-....who's that you got behind you?"
Arthur freezes and doesn't dare turn. His first instinct is to reach for his sawed-off shotgun. He exchanged a glance with Bill, who was just as suprised...until-
"This your home, Mister? You live out in the woods?"
Goddammit.
"Kid-?! Didn't I-"
"Yeah, Mister, but it got real lonely and I didn't wanna wait!"
Arthur narrowed his eyes, then rolled them promptly as he slid off his saddle. He gave his horse a pat on it's rear in thanks, then turned his attention to the boy in front of him who fiddled with the sleeves of his shirt. He glances back at Bill who watches with a grin, enjoying every minute of this dilemma.
"Follow me." Arthur takes his horse's reins again, leading it to pasture with the others. Upon turning around, the boy had remained where he stood.
"C'mere, kid!"
The kid didn't respond.
Arthur put his hands on his hips, then sighs once again. He walks over, picking up the child with one arm. The kid is horizontal through his arm, holding him against his hip. "Abigail!"
"What is it-" Abigail pauses, looking at Arthur. "My," she smiles as the boy is put to his feet, huddling close to Arthur's legs shyly. Abigail bends to his level with a gentle smile, "what's your name, darlin'?"
His puppy-dog eyes look up to Arthur as if to ask permission to speak, then to Abigail. "James," he whispers.
"James?" Abigail reiterates. "That's a nice name. I'm Abigail, and this here is Jack," she gestures to her son, and he waves. "Where did you come from? Don't you have parents?"
James shakes his head, inching closer to Arthur.
Abigail stands, giving Arthur a look. She begins to speak, until Hosea greets the two.
"Well, what do we have here?" The huckster chuckles, kneeling to the boy. "Where'd you find him, Arthur?"
"He found me, more or less," Arthur grumbles. "He was caught takin' bread from the stands in the general store in Valentine. Some feller tried to give him a hard time, so I defended him and I thought I dropped him off at the Sheriff's Office. I guess he followed me here. Didn't even notice."
"Quiet thing he is, isn't he?" Hosea gives James a warm smile. "Have you eaten, son?"
"No sir," James replies meekly, "I haven't."
"Arthur, would you show him to Mr. Pearson for a nice supper? Mrs. Grimshaw-"
"I'm already working on it!" Susan replies hastily, adding an extra blanket to Arthur's tent.
"Hosea, I don't-"
"You can't just take him back, Arthur." Hosea replies quietly, "he followed you here, almost like a lost puppy, and like a puppy, he's gonna be your responsibility, lest the ladies get to him first. He's a handsome young man."
Arthur mumbles under his breath, knowing Hosea was right. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he left James alone. In a few ways, James reminded him of his own son, Issac. Maybe, he felt, maybe this could make things right. Maybe this could fill that aching, emptiness and loneliness he's felt for so long. The only downside is that he has another thing to worry about, another, innocent child to shield from the horrors of his life. It's almost, in a way, cruel to keep him around. He deserves better. He doesn't need this life, but what was Arthur to do? Parent the boy, he guesses. Not that he's much of a father in the first place.
Over the next few minutes, the gang meets and greets the new kid. He sits at the card table, eating sheepishly as everyone takes their turns asking him questions, not that he had many answers.
"Give the boy some space!" Dutch commands, tapping the ashes off of his cigar. "Arthur, may I speak with you for a moment? Just a moment."
"Sure," Arthur complies, "I'll be right back, okay?"
He follows Dutch to his tent, where Dutch promptly turns to him, taking a drag off his cigar. "You didn't kidnap nobody's son, didya?"
Arthur squints. "Wh-no! What kinda question is that, Dutch?"
Dutch chuckles, patting Arthur's shoulder, then wiping his hand on Arthur's jacket once he realized that his hand had touched mud, "just makin' sure." He begins to lead Arthur, walking with him. "You couldn't find his folks nowhere?"
"The boy was stealin' bread, Dutch. I think it's safe to say that he has no folks," Arthur replies, thumbing his belt.
"He reminds me a lot of you when you were a boy," Dutch smiles, "he was quiet like you were, too. That is until I broke you outta your shell. I think it'll be good for you take after Hosea and I and teach the boy what he needs to know to survive."
Arthur shrugs. "I was plannin' on it. I'm just worried that....I don't know....maybe I'm not cut out for this."
"Sure ya are!" Dutch turns to Arthur, halting their walk. "It'll be good for you to have somethin' to do other than draw in that journal all day."
Arthur shakes his head, and Dutch winks, putting his cigar back between his lips.
Arthur meets back with the boy, where Charles had taken his spot. Beside Charles was Javier and Sean.
"You sure this lad ain't yours, Arthur?" Sean laughs. "Looks a helluva lot like ya!"
Arthur doesn't bother, and sits down across from Charles beside James. He seemed a little more open. He assumed it was from Charles' calming demeanor....or Sean's hyperactive one.
"He's a smart kid, Arthur. Very headstrong." Charles adds in. "He says he wants to be a hunter when he grows up. You and I should take him hunting sometime to start him off."
"You ever hunted before, James?" Arthur asks, not sure how to level his voice to keep from starling the child.
"Once, with my Pa." James moves his spoon throughout his stew absentmindedly. "Pa left when Mama got sick, and one day she went to sleep and wouldn't wake up. After she went to heaven, I've been alone, kinda."
Arthur, Sean, Javier and Charles exchange glances, feeling a variation of that pain.
"Well, you've got all the Aunts and Uncles you could ever want!" Javier grins, "you've got food, a place to sleep, and all the protection you'll ever need."
"And maybe tomorrow mornin' I could take you to Saint Denis and get ya somethin' real nice to wear, to getcha outta those old clothes."
James finally begins to smile. It adds so much to his fair complexion. "Is it pretty, Saint Denis? Just like on the postcards?"
"Just like on the postcards! Maybe even prettier." Arthur smiles, too. A rare smile hardly shown to the world. It was genuine.
"You've got a real hardworkin' Pa now, lad!" Sean smirks as Arthur eyes him. "This man is as stubborn as a bull, but make no mistake, he'll getcha anything ye ask for as long as ya can get passed that rough outer layer a'his."
"I think he's really nice," James looks down to his food, then back up to Arthur. "Scary at first, but he saved me! So that makes him my Guardian Angel, just like Mama used to say."
Arthur felt a sort of relief. This responsibility was immense, but he couldn't help himself. He was already starting to get attached to the child.
"Why don't you go with Uncle Charles and meet everyone else, huh? I should probably get cleaned up. I'm still covered in mud." Arthur remains in his seat as James follows his new Uncles, sightseeing throughout the camp. Maybe this is his second chance to actually be a father. Sure, he was afraid. He was afraid for what was to come. He was afraid that he might not be the father he hopes he is. He sure as hell won't turn out like John, that's for sure.

Quick Thoughts on DD Book 1 Chapter 5
• Content Warning: There are references to slut shaming while speaking about opera singers, and I speak about executions in the Hamid scene (I've not added grisly details or anything, but to me what I have included does sound a little macabre). I don't know if those warrant a warning, but I'd like to err on the side of caution and ensure that anyone comfortable with that knows this before they make the decision to proceed.
• Okay on with the QT!
• Why hello there, fancy hot looking Ottoman prince dude.
• Looks like not one but both of my MCs will be living the thot life.
• Apologies for the huge delay guys. There was a LOT to unpack this chapter, and it took me a while to actually explore, confirm my research and get a clear idea overall of how I wanted to approach this one. I'm hoping once TRR ends I can get these babies out earlier.
• You know what I realised? The Lady Grandma LIKES a sassy bitch. There are several times this chapter she's actually been more approving of my headstrong Marianne than she has been of my more mild-mannered Florence. See all of this:
Tumblr media
She's mostly approving of this, however, when Henrietta is the recipient of this behaviour, but there are also points where she appreciates the MC's candor (if she chooses to show it) such as if the MC refers to the art of the fan as "ridiculous". If there is one thing that consistently gets on Dominique's nerves, it is occasions where the MC might speak of herself and her former background negatively, mostly out of annoyance because it shows she hasn't comfortably settled into her role yet, and Dominique needs the MC to do so if Edgewater is to stay within in the family and bloodline.
• Also I love the subtle streak of independence we get to see in Annabelle. She is someone who is doing what is expected of her, someone who tries to make the best of her circumstances the only way she knows how, but she is also refreshingly open about how stressful it is for her to go down this path, even in her free scenes. She is also playful and mischievous and doesn't take herself too seriously, which makes a lot of her scenes a joy to do.
• I also really really liked the option where you tell her she's the one you want to marry, and her reaction is both a disbelief that such a dream could come true alongside a receptiveness to the idea. It's soft and sweet and beautiful.
• So we start out with a crash course on the nobility we'll meet in London (Alfred Halloway, whose daughter Felicity is debuting this season, and the Barrymore family, who are related to the Halloways by marriage). Only this time, Annabelle wants to be a snarky little boss and fill the MC in on all the juicy gossip that Lady Grandmother won't give her.
• Lady Grandmother: Alfred Holloway is the viscount of Lochdale. His daughter, Felicity, will be coming from her estate at Bellington Hall to make her debut this season.
Miss Parsons: Alfred Holloway is an arrogant prig who looks like an Easter ham studded with cloves.
(For the record, this is what a clove-studded Easter ham seems to look like:
Tumblr media
Holy shit Annabelle you savage af)
Lady Grandmother: Miss Holloway's family is also tied by marriage to the Earl of Barrymore...
Miss Parsons: Oh, avoid the Earl of Barrymore. His bed has more traffic than Drury Lane!
Annabelle here must be referring to the crowd that tends to flock around the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, which was popular as a source of entertainment for its plays and had a seating capacity of 3000 people.
• The free scene with Annabelle is important because it eases us gently into the main themes of her scene later on. The women get to speak about the whole concept of a "marriage market", and straight off the bat Annabelle lets us know how uncomfortable she is with having to go through a wedding to another man.
• She also speaks about what else - besides the fact that Harry was her closest friend - about his death affected her. Having been promised to Harry, Annabelle didn't have to go through the rigamarole of finding a husband. She had learned to settle with the idea of being married to someone who she knew and liked at least, if not loved. It's sad to us modern readers now that Annabelle would have to settle for less than passion or love, but back then I don't think she could have imagined a better deal. And now...and now she will have to settle for even less than what she had with Harry. This was a pretty neat way of easing us into the larger conversation she has with us in her diamond scene.
• A few days pass, and Briar is now helping us get ready for the trip to London. You have the option of encouraging her romance with Mr Woods, which...cmon. They cute 😊
Tumblr media
Ooh so our House Colours are navy blue and gold! (considering that the Earl's default outfit itself is navy blue, I should have figured that would be a house colour). It's nice but MY NECK WHERE IS MY NECK.
Did You Know: that up until the middle of the 19th century, men's and women's riding habits were largely made by men in a distinctively masculine style. This is what Candice Hern's article "Regency Habits, Overview" on her website Regency World, says:
"Though the style and cut of riding habits changed with time and fashion, they continued to be tailored in a masculine style throughout the 17th and 18th centuries and into the early 19th century. In La Belle Assemblée in 1815, we read that: “Habits have, ever since they were first brought into fashion, been considered as decidedly calculated to give even the most delicate female a masculine appearance, and the wits of our grandmothers’ days were unmercifully severe on the waistcoat, cravat, and man’s hat which were then the indispensible appendages to a habit.”"
Tumblr media
YOU'RE NOT COMING WTF DAD NO.
• WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'LL DO TO YOU WHILE I'M GONE.
• I'm having a sinking feeling about leaving my old dad around in this house while Henrietta is still there, Grandma had better be his bodyguard (or maybe not. Cordonians seem to have weird ideas of what constitutes a successful bodyguard *COUGHCOUGH Mara and Bastien COUGHCOUGH*).
• Like most of the fandom I have a feeling the Earl will die sooner than we think. @i-dream-so-i-write once mentioned that it could well be towards the end of the book, and I think that's a fitting dramatic turn this book would take into the next. I'm going to miss the hell outta this guy though 😟
• Henrietta sent Mr Marlcaster and Miss Sutton ahead of time so they can screw things up for us, so we will need to butter them up like no tomorrow when we reach there, apparently.
• Hello Luke! It's been exactly one chapter!
• Kinda like the bonding the MC and Luke have with regards to the horse. Their first real conversation began with Clover, so it is fitting that their bonding continues over her at least for their initial interactions.
• Aww man, Henrietta wants Clover the horse to be sold and they give you a diamond option to keep her, name her and get extra scenes with her. Florence calls her Moonstone, Marianne calls her Pepper. Moonstone suits Florence's particular sense of whimsy, and I figured Marianne would want something short and snappy and it helped that Luke gave the horse some salt before the diamond option came up 😂
It's a fairly nice scene I guess, but it drives me batty because this book is already taking astronomical sums of money early on in the book, and people are already beginning to get frustrated. Even TRR, which is a pretty expensive book, took more than half the book before they pushed forward the option to buy the Derby horse. It just is beginning to feel like too much too soon at this point.
• Of all the free scenes this chapter, my favourite has to be the exchange among the four in the picnic en route London.
Tumblr media
I found this particularly interesting because all of these people, so far, have been outside the rigors of the Season in some way or other. Briar is the most outside of this system of doing things: she has grown up completely out of it and will probably always struggle to understand the way things work within the gentry. Luke has spent years in that environment (that of the gentry) so he knows some of it, but he still is and will always be an outsider. Annabelle has grown up in this environment and is perhaps the closest to it, but has never had to take active part due to her association with Harry and the Edgewater Estate. And the MC straddles both these worlds. She is an heiress, part of this high society, but she was born in and more familiar with Briar's worldview. And I love how this scene captures all this in just a few bits of dialogue.
• Also Luke's sensible response to Annabelle's question and Briar being a teasing little imp is super cute, I will fight anyone who disagrees with me on this 😂😂😂
• So many gems nestled in Annabelle's scene guys I can't even. There's so much going on in this one. So much.
Tumblr media
The main thing this scene does is to - without a doubt - establish Annabelle as a closeted lesbian. She's still at the stage where she's aware and finds it odd that she doesn't hold any affection for any man, that the idea itself of marriage frustrates her, and her growing confusion that she's now feeling for a woman all that she "should" be feeling for a man. There are points where she almost welcomes it, like the scene I mentioned earlier, but she still is clearly struggling.
The MC has three ways of responding to this - one where she misses the point completely and says "you haven't found the right man yet" (Marianne, unfortunately), another where she states that she "understands" (which is left open - either it is a gesture of support from an ally, or it is from someone who understands her dilemma to...well...some extent. Florence is the second. She is bi, so her "I understand" was basically "I've fallen for some men sure but I also have a hard time figuring out what my sexuality is"). My favourite is the response where the MC speaks of facing a similar dilemma in her life and is an excellent choice if your MC is also a lesbian. I couldn't use this one for Florence or Marianne because it didn't ring true for either of them, but I did see the screenshots on tumblr and it's quite poignant.
Did You Know: Lesbian/sapphic relationships and sex were not as much seen as illegal as invisible...and this was an attitude that a later monarch, Queen Victoria, would uphold as well, refusing to sign a legislation to criminalize it by insisting that "women do not do such things". Obviously as we all know, she couldn't be any more wrong. Today we know of famous lesbian women of the Regency as Anne Lister, owner of Shibden Hall, and the Ladies of Llangollen - two women from Ireland named Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby, who had a romantic relationship for over 50 years. Gail Eastwood, in an article titled "Queer in the Regency: a Slice of Once-Hidden LGBT History" says:
Defying their families, the two established an estate in Wales, called Plas Newydd, rather than enter into marriages with men they did not love. Though they incurred significant debt in order to have a staff, they survived on the generosity of friends until a fascinated Queen Charlotte convinced King George III to grant them a pension.
Plas Newydd became something of a haven for writers during the Regency era, especially since the couple living there could afford to keep it.
Part of me wonders if elements of this story may be found in the Annabelle x MC route. Or like Anne Lister, who was well-endowed enough financially that she could refrain from marriage and have relationships with women. Maybe, or - given the limitations of having to chart out a storyline that will suit every LI - maybe not. Whatever it is, I'd be very interested in finding out how they'll handle the MC's romance with Annabelle.
• The second most interesting thing is Annabelle speaking about her poetry, and the restrictions her father has kept on her talent. She mentions him looking down on women's poetry as being "all bad rhymes and flowery sentiment", and that - in keeping with the times - he prefers Romantic Age poets such as Wordsworth, and that famous influence on Romanticism, Shakespeare. If we choose to ask her about showing us her poetry, she tells us her writing is "of a...delicate nature" (get it, girl! 😀) and if we choose to encourage her instead, the MC makes references to Mary Wollstonecraft, whose ideas of gender equality were considered radical for the times, and who is seen as one of the earliest feminist icons.
Did You Know: that in a time when female education was mainly geared to prepare women for their domestic roles, Mary Wollstonecraft advocated for women to receive an education that would help them survive beyond the home and the marriage market, stating that the one real barrier in the way of gender equality was the disparity in the education women received compared to men. She says, "this homage to women’s attractions has distorted their understanding to such an extent that almost all the civilized women of the present century are anxious only to inspire love, when they ought to have the nobler aim of getting respect for their abilities and virtues".
Her daughter, Mary Shelley, would write the famous novel Frankenstein in 1818, two years following the events of Desire and Decorum.
• Within this scene also lies a little tidbit that will hold some importance in Chapter 7: the MC tells Annabelle that her mother used to sing in the opera:
Tumblr media
So this could be the root of some of the snarky remarks Henrietta makes about the MC's mother. She has close pretty darn close to calling her a "prostitute" on more than one occasion, and her comment after the MC sang along with Annabelle in chapter 3 about how it was "no wonder" that the MC could sing, given her mother's profession.
Did You Know: Opera singers had a very different reputation in the Regency era, not all of it very positive. Shana Galen, who is described as a Regency adventure author, speaks about how opera singers were viewed at the time: Of course, it was perfectly acceptable for a young lady to show her talents on the pianoforte or to sing in front of a small group of family and friends, but performing on the stage at Drury Lane or Covent Garden were frowned upon.
Female performers, especially, were shunned by society. One example of this sort of attitude was seen in the ridicule faced by a singer named Dorothea Jordan, who had an long-running affair with a Duke, bore him ten children, and who was the subject of a "satirical cartoon that showed her in her bedroom, gazing adoringly at a duchess’ coronet, which she hopes someday to wear by marrying her lover. A map on the wall purports to show the route from “Strolling Lane” (i.e. prostitution) through “Old Drury Common” all the way to “Derbyshire Peak.” A genealogical chart of the nobility lies on her dressing table, and her bed-hangings are crowned by a Phrygian cap, symbol of the French Revolution. The latter is intended to ridicule her pretensions to nobility; as a common woman, let alone an actress, she should know her place" ("Glimpse at Opera during Jane Austen's Lifetime" by Maggi Andersen, for the blog Historical Hearts).
• Luke's scene on the other hand is lighter in content but is important if you look at it from the viewpoint of establishing his role in the MC's life before they reach London. As a neutral friend, he is happy to serve her and considers her a vast improvement over Countess Henrietta. He tells her that she possesses what Henrietta lacks, understands something that Henrietta would never understand in several lifetimes: that looking down on people she believes as her 'inferiors' will leave her at a disadvantage eventually.
But if you hint at having feelings for Luke, the entire mood of the scene changes, and you see him feeling torn between his growing affections for her and his recognition that any relationship beyond the professional will end badly for them all.
Tumblr media
• The thing with both Luke and Annabelle is that to not fall for them is to maintain the status quo. So even if there is an element of attraction, the MC not reciprocating does not tip the delicate balance that governs their lives at Edgewater over. But when she does...it gives rise both to moments of joy...and moments of fear.
• Ooh I love the animation for the train!!
Tumblr media
I mean...just...look at this!
• The MC and Briar get to react in awe to their first sight of London before they get down from the carriage. We find out that we're pretty much stranded on the streets of London and no one has come to pick us up. Gee thanks, stepbro.
• Not gonna lie, but seeing Prince Hamid's shocked!face on his full-body shot made me giggle a little.
• He introduces himself as Imperial Prince Hamid, cousin to "his Imperial Majesty Mahmoud the Second, Caliph of Islam, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and Custodian of the Two Mosques (the last especially was used in royal titles for many Islamic rulers, and refers to the Al-Haram Mosque (al-Masjid al-Ḥarām) of Mecca, and the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid An-Nabawī) of Medina).
• In a sense he kinda reminds me of Kamilah: he is a fictional character positioned as being related to an actual historical figure, so they will give us plenty of background about the countries they were from (Egypt and Turkey [Istanbul in this case], respectively) but keep the actual historical figure at a distance. Making the fictional character a cousin and a person of an important position in that court is a smart choice to make: they're important enough to represent the royals of the times but distanced enough that it doesn't seem unnatural if they aren't that close and ergo can't tell you personal details about said historical figure.
• Did You Know: Sultan Mahmud II (the cousin Hamid mentions) was seen as quite a progressive ruler of his times. 1829 onwards, he tried to bring many, many reforms into the Ottoman empire, including (according to the Encyclopedia Britannica article on him) "adopting the cabinet system of government, provided for a census and a land survey, and inaugurated a postal service (1834), introducing compulsory primary education, opening a medical school, and sending students to Europe. In addition, the sultan’s right to confiscate the property of deceased officials was abolished, and European dress was introduced". It looks like some elements of this way of thought could be reflected in Hamid, from his talk of diplomacy in his diamond scene.
• Hamid not only positions himself as a bit of an outsider to England but also as a man who travels: talk of travelling and seeing the world is his ice-breaker when they get into the carriage. This will allow him not only to help familiarize the MC with London, and his home Constantinople, but also give her (and us) a view of what the world looks like at this point. For instance, if the MC speaks of even London is unfamiliar territory to her, he mentions the Blue Mosque, the construction of which was completed exactly 200 years prior to the events of the story.
• The other very essential point of this scene is to provide a bit of a parallel to Luke, but also as a counterpoint. Luke is disadvantaged both by his class and his race - ergo he has a very layered perspective. Hamid has privileges, but he is also aware of and in some ways used to the reception he gets in England, and has figured out how he wants to respond. Both Luke and Hamid find their ways to cope with their situation, and the MC is allowed - according to the ethnicity chosen for her - to relate to both.
Tumblr media
Florence, for instance, relates heavily to this as someone is visibly a foreigner even though England is the only home she has ever known. Marianne does not fully understand this, but she can tell him like any decent human being would that she thinks it's wrong of people to treat him that way.
• Just prior to this the two manage to see the Tower of London, notorious for the imprisonment and execution of many, many people including royals and nobles. There is a short but rather poignant conversation on the "many people tortured and murdered over who had the right to sit on the throne" (among the people executed, you will find names like Anne Boleyn, Thomas More, Lady Jane Grey, Guy Fawkes and Walter Raliegh).
• Did You Know: For a long long time in England, executions were seen as a bit of a spectator sport. The more unusual the criminal, the bigger the crowd. The Capital Punishment UK blog speaks of the kind of atmosphere usually present around the time:
In many counties, executions were held on market days to enable the largest number of people to see them and school parties would be made to attend as a moral lesson, something which is certainly recorded as happening at Lancaster Castle.  Public houses and gin shops always did a very brisk trade on a hanging day.
However, attitudes towards executions experienced a shift around the late 18th-early 19th century, and by 1864 Parliament established a Royal Commission on Capital Punishment, with a declaration that executions would take place inside the prisons rather than in public.
I'm not sure if this was intentional, but possibly the MC's and Hamid's reactions to the tower may be reflective of their times.
• Interestingly, Annabelle is shown to look jealous if you've been romancing her, and giving you a sly grin if you're just friends. I quite liked that little touch. Luke meanwhile is a little less open about how he feels at this point: whether you're romancing him or not, he is described as "watching you carefully" during your exchange with Hamid.
• So Mr Marlcaster got the letter from the Duchess to send a groom for picking the MC, but didn't...as per his mother's demands, surely. But AT LEAST you should have been a little prepared to answer me in case I dropped by anyway, dude? Instead of just standing there and staring at me like a scandalized goldfish.
• Looks like Edmund is still going to try screwing things up for us, and we'll need to find a way to get him on our side. After all, we get relationship points with both him and Theresa Sutton, and Lady Grandmother did tell us we could find a way to get them to be with us rather than against us.
• I'm looking forward to Chapter 5...but it's Chapter 6 I REALLY want to see. We're going to learn a bit more about the MC's mother's background!
General Thoughts:
• OMG so much was there to unpack this chapter!! A lot of it to do with Annabelle and Hamid, and Luke has taken a bit of a backseat this chapter but I'm hoping that's a taster of what's to come in his case.
• Look I love this story but IT COSTS SO MUCH. WTF. Keeping Clover was a nice option but it really added nothing to this chapter and could have easily been shifted elsewhere. I want this book to do well. I'm happy with how they're writing it, the effort they're putting into their research and into their characters so far...and I would hate for it to not be appreciated because they made it so hard for people to get into the book by making it this expensive so early.
• Florence is going for Annabelle and Luke (leaning more towards Annabelle at this point), and Marianne for Hamid and Sinclaire (I'm not sure yet but Hamid is a very very strong contender!!). Who would have thought I'd have my first polyam MCs in a book on Regency Era England!! Who woulda thunk!
• Annabelle particularly intrigues me at this point. She is clearly established as both inside and outside of this system, and vocally critical of it at least to the MC. She writes about her desires against the chargin of her father, and states that she doesn't want to merely settle into a 'safe' relationship like her mother, not unless she can know and trust that person (which is mostly why she agreed to the match with Harry even if she didn't love him). She is confused, and open and honest about her confusion. I really think the foundation of this character is immensely strong, but they really need to keep working on her and not just drop their efforts on her halfway. And I've seen that happen enough times with female LIs to be afraid.
• At this point, we now have three male LIs (one Master of Horse who is African-American, one family-approved eligible bachelor and one prince of the Ottoman Empire) and one female love interest. Is there space for one more confirmed female LI? I sure hope so but at the same time I don't want keep my hopes up.
However...IF the plan is to keep just one female LI, then they'd better do a pretty darn phenomenal job of her. If you're not going to give wlw players other options it's only fair to make sure the only option is given really, really good writing - consistently. They're doing a good job so far...but there's a long long way to go before I can fully trust PB to do justice to her.
• That's it for now! On to Chapter 6!
