First time using snow fx, pretty happy with it even if it's not perfect.
Annalise's chair has a noticeable tilt but i did NOT feel confident trying to cut her off the base to fix it (all these minis came already attached to the bases)

so when Maria was a Workshop Hunter was she just like commuting from cainhurst or what. Because can you imagine having a coworker who is like oh I have to take the Cursed Carriage back to Dracula’s Castle to get home nbd
#I know the actual answer is Cainhurst was probably LESS cursed back when Maria was alive and presumably the executioners hadn’t killed#everyone yet. and also I imagine being nobility she could probably afford closer lodgings. however.#bloodborne#corvid rambles

Part 5!!!
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 6
More under the cut-
Lady Maria was another character I was waiting to meet. I saw so many cool arts of her. She was majestic but kicked my butt so many times I had to take a break 🥲 Also it's sad you can't take proper pictures of her mid-fight :(
She's gonna have fanarts of her for sure.
Brother-in-law was a bit behind with his game, so I went ahead and tried my luck with Logarius, again. I might've been overleveled this time, tho
It started out so well, but after I stood up and stepped closer she became mean to me :( So I told on her to Alfred
Whoops, he had a totally normal reaction to it
oh well, moving on
With sadness in our hearts, we had to finish off Lady Maria :(
Next to the starting area of the Hunter's nightmare, the Fishing Hamlet was my least fav part
Only good thing about this place was the face of these enemies. They're really pretty, I should make fanarts for them some time.
Should've taken more pictures from the cutscenes :')
This fight was really scary and difficult for me. Like when I tried to defeat Nameless Puppet in lop on my first playthrough. I was very nervous, and we did die several times. Tried to beat him alone as well, but I couldn't do better than taking off his 3/4 hp. Bil said Gehrman will be a walk in the park compared to this
One last thing before finishing the dlc, Laurence. I interrupted his snork mimimi time with my ass, then died in the second phase :')
So we got the gang together and went for it
(Valtr <3)
With this the dlc was finished, and I got back to the dream.

About the baby in the painting thing— I choose to beleive it’s Alfred. There is not really any “evidence” for this theory other than the baby painting and that he has blonde hair and green eyes like the cainhurst related crew we see in game. The timeline of the events in bloodborne is vague, but I don’t think it’s that much of stretch to say the executioners invaded cainhurst ~30 years or so before the game starts. I really like this hc because it’s a flip on the Moses archetype, and it really makes Alfred’s quest all the more tragic :p
Oh thank you for the additional explanations!
Yeah the infant being Alfred is a very interesting and tragic idea!
So do you imagined he might be related to Annalise in this case ? Or that he was just an important relative and child of other nobles??
As for myself I headcanon that yeah Cainhurst's massacre happened a couple of decades before the event of the game as well. That bloody crow was like a child or teenager / very young adult and that Arianna and Alfred were very small children/ babies. And were raised by other people far away. If not a religious institution directly.
As for who the baby in the painting is (and the queen) my ideas can be resume here :
But to resume quickly I like the ideas that it's either Maria and the queen before Annalise. Or Annalise and bloody crow.
I have a friend who think it's Arianna too!
But yes in all cases Alfred having ties and being actually a descendant from the vilebloods is always a very cool and drama idea.

Making salem a vileblood that managed to avoid getting massacred with the rest because he got sent to byrgenwerth to study before the massacre. He was in the fishing hamlet - and doing awful things to the villagers in the name of research - at the time logarius was leading the executioners to the cainhurst. He decided to just keep his mouth shut about being a vileblood after he found out about what happened at the castle
#text post tag#bloodborne#salem#i do love the mental image of salem being one of the few males in cainhurst#and just being surrounded by fucked up vampiric women while growing up#annalise was gonna dump him in the recycling bin when she found out her newest child was male#but there was something odd about him that she found compelling and decided to keep him and see how it turned out#silently seething with rage every time he interacts with alfred because he has to just smile and nod#every time the vilebloods are brought up bc he cant just be admitting to an executioner that he *is* a vileblood#especially not when he does work with the healing church#alfred: gushing about master logarius and how he slaughtered the vilebloods#salem‚ fake smile on his face while nodding enthusiastically: yeah man totally. A concept inspired by this thought where the Winter Lanterns change based on what covenant you are/what actions you do in the game!
Notes + design explanation below :)
-in the main game, the Winter Lanterns are a reflection of our hunter’s mind, Frankensteining what we were familiar with into something incomprehensible. For a number of reasons, this is my absolute favorite enemy in the game. So, I decided to have the idea of giving it “variants,” depending on what actions you do in-game. As said in the top left corner, this is what I think a Winter Lantern would look like towards a Vileblood/someone who did the Cainhurst quest.
-Instead of donning the Doll’s dress, this Winter Lantern is wearing the dress of a Bound Widow, a ghost that haunts Castle Cainhurst.
-I feel like I don’t need to explain the navel in her chest.
-Above all else, instead of the brain of the Mensis brain, this variant has the Executioner’s Golden Ardeo, a helmet from the covenant that executed the Vilebloods. The eye in the center is actually based off the covenant symbol itself!

P.s. if you have any ideas for what the other covenant variants could look like, please tell me! I plan on doing one for all of them :)

The Pthumerians
The Pthumerians were/are an ancient race of humanoids who lived deep below ground in Pthumeru Ithyll, or the Chalice Dungeons. It is unclear if they always lived down there or if they merely moved down there and then evolved into their current form from one that looked more human, but what is known is that they were the servants of the Great Ones. Not just servants, but likely a slave race whose sole purpose was to care for the Great Ones and expand the Chalice Dungeons endlessly.
Regardless of whether or not the Pthumerians originated above or underground, descendants of them can be found in both orientations. It seems an ancient branch of Pthumerians, or perhaps several branches, eventually breached the surface and subsequently created Yharnam and Cainhurst. There could be other locations in the world of Bloodborne that were created by the Pthumerians as well, as we don't know just how far the tombs sprawl beneath the surface, and it is very likely that some of their descendants could have simply traveled to new locations as well.
The Executioners are said to be from a foreign land, and among their ranks are the likes of Martyr Logarius, who is notably very Pthumerian in appearance. This could mean that there are more Pthumerian-descended civilizations out there, or that Logarius was simply a member of the Healing Church, which also employs (or really seems to enslave) many of these people themselves, and Logarius was simply appointed by them to lead the Eexecutioners during their siege and genocide of Cainhurst.
I mentioned Logarius having a very Pthumerian appearance, but what does that mean exactly? Throughout the game, we can encounter many Pthumerians. Each of these individuals have incredibly pale skin, straight up alabaster in color in some cases, with sunken, black eyes and somewhat strange mouths. Build-wise, Pthumerians have a number of shapes they can take, with some being rather tiny and frail, but most of them seem to be quite large, with their height being anywhere from slightly taller than a hunter, to almost twice as tall, to being literal giants. The variations between these Pthumerians could indicate that there are different branches, something like humans having once had homo sapiens, neanderthal, and denisovans, but they could also simply just be prone to intense levels of diversity, or even be affected by arcane arts or the influence of the Great Ones they serve.
The arcane arts seem to be a very important thing to the Pthumerians, as the tombs they live in are full of items and alters for ritual. Not only that, but we can find many Pthumerian witches who will assault us with magic. The Bell Ringing Women, who also seem to be Pthumerian, can also summon enemies to attack us. I am inclined to believe that the enemies they summon are the spirits of the dead and that the Bell Ringing Women act as necromancers, though it is also possible that these enemies are from different realities as well, similar to how player invasions work. Another point towards necromancy however is the fact that, within the dungeons, we can find several Pthumerian giants who are labeled as being undead. They look far different from the living ones we see above ground and are often adorned with candles, making them look like walking ritual alters. We can also find the occasional ghost wandering the dark corridors of the tombs.
I mentioned earlier that the peoples of Yharnam and Cainhurst are descended from the Pthumerians, but how do we know that? Well, for Yharnamites, it is much more obvious. Yharnamites have a distinct look about them. It isn't quite the same as that of the Pthumerians, but it is still quite different than the average person, like the hunters we meet from foreign lands. Yharnamites are tall, lanky, with seemingly mismatched proportions. These traits could be chalked up to the affects of beasthood and the Old Blood, but it seems odd that characters seemingly unaffected by the plague, such as the old woman or distrustful man we can send to Oedon Chapel still have these characteristics. On top of that, the city of Yharnam itself is named after Yharnam, the Pthumerian Queen.
"Yharnam" has been posited to be a name passed down from queen to queen. I think this is likely true and that the name is a thing of power and ritual. When a Pthumerian woman becomes queen, she also becomes Yharnam. The city was thus eventually named after the Pthumerian queens, though its possible its people have forgotten the origin of the name, especially with the Healing Church's take over and the burning and abandonment of Old Yharnam - Old Yharnam having an aesthetic and culture that seems much more in line with those below ground than those of Central Yharnam and the Cathedral Ward.
Old Yharnam is home to many statues that are bestial in nature and, while other parts of Yharnam aren't exactly strangers to fucked up looking statues themselves, Old Yharnam's still feel much more in line with what we find underground; much more archaic and dark. On top of that, the most damning evidence is the Church of the Good Chalice, where we can find the first Pthumerian Chalice on an alter. We can also find ritual blood on a separate alter. These two findings offer a direct link to the tombs, and thus to the Pthumerians, and paint the other oddities of Old Yharnam under a much more suspicious and Pthumerian-themed light.
But what about Cainhurst? Cainhurst's connections aren't as clear cut, but I believe the clues are there. For starters, the people of Cainhurst, the Vilebloods, are even more Pthumerian in appearance than the Yharnamites are. The people were see have drastic changes in sizes, some being short and hunched over little goblin men, kind of like the Pthumerian leg witches we see in the tombs, while the ghosts of victims we see are rather tall. These ghosts are also incredibly pale like the Pthumerians, but they are also ghosts, so who knows which is the cause.
Queen Annalise, on the other hand, is not a ghost, yet still bears these traits. Her skin is pale and grey, and almost shiny. Now, Annalise being a queen who isn't named Yharnam could be a flaw in this theory, but the people of Cainhurst and the people of Yharnam are enemies, so it makes sense that they wouldn't keep the same name. On top of that, some have posited the idea of a Pthumerian civil war, as thousands of corpses and ancient sets of weapons and armor can be found underground. These could all be from explorers, but the sheer number of these corpses and items makes it seem unlikely that they are JUST from explorers, possibly indicating that the split between Cainhurst and Yharnam was a lot further back in time.
Other possible links to the Pthumerians are the fact that we can find gargoyles and blood lickers in Cainhurst. Now, blood lickers can be found in other places as well, such as in the Hunter's Nightmare, as the creatures are simply attracted to blood. Blood lickers very well could be some form of interdimensional beings who just seek out blood, since the ones we encounter in the Chalice Dungeons mainly come out when we kill an enemy via visceral attack, but the fact that in the base game, these were the only two places we could find them could still be a link.
The gargoyles on the other hand are not found in the DLC, nor anywhere else. They can only be found in the Chalice Dungeons and Cainhurst. The gargoyles are rather humanoid in nature, so it is possible that they themselves are another form of Pthumerian. Alternatively, they could be beasthood afflicted Pthumerians, as beasthood affects people in a number of ways and the people of the dungeons did commune with the Old Blood. These beasthood afflicted Pthumerians could have been subsequently used as guard dogs, seeing as they tend to wait in inconspicuous places to jump out and grab any intruder who passes by.
Another potential connection is the fact that, when we arrive at Cainhurst, the courtyard we first enter has a strange hole. A sloping path leads down into the ground but seems to dead end. I personally believe this is, or was, an entrance to the dungeons that has since been sealed off and possibly where the branch that would become the Vilebloods first ascended. We can find a similar location in Yharnam, that being a cave below Iosefka's Clinic and the Forbidden Woods that is full of poison water and Pthumerian Giants who do not seem to be under the control of the Healing Church. Notably, these two locations also features the annoying worm enemies, which can also be found within Loran Silverbeasts where killed. Loran Silverbeasts can be found within the dungeons, and within the nightmare, and could possibly link Loran to the Pthumerians as well.
It is also interesting to note the fact that the streets of Yharnam are filled with coffins. This very well could be due to the plague that is ravaging the city, but it could also be one of the few remaining remnants of Pthumerian culture that hasn't been fully abolished yet; that connection to death and necromancy. The School of Mensis in Yahar'Gul seems to use necromancy themselves, as we can find abominations like wolves made of corpses, or the Cramped Caskets that are sentient masses of limbs that are fused together and inhabiting, well, cramped caskets. Yahar'Gul is also where we fight the One Reborn, a failed attempt at creating a Great One, or a vessel for a Great One, who is also made up of corpses and aided by Bell Ringing women, who I already discussed the connections to necromancy and Pthumerians. Yahar'Gul is also where the Snatchers reside or bring victims to, Snatchers once again being very clearly Pthumerian in appearance and located within the dungeons.
So that was my random ramble about Pthumerians and the culture likely descended from them. I may have missed some aspect that I wished to talk about since I got carried away a few times, and maybe some of this stuff is pointless, already well known, or simply not cared about, but I enjoy rambling about Fromsoft lore, especially my precious baby, Bloodborne. To anyone who read this, thanks! Would love to hear any thoughts.

I like the detail about Cainhurst people being able to cancel out blood healing; they have Numbing Mist and Cain Servants can shoot the dart at you that doesn't let you heal while effect is active! Numbing Mist also works on Amelia when she heals "magically" by using Gold Pendant 🤔
But what's also interesting is that Logarius has a similar power too? There is a trick where he puts a dagger in the floor and you can't heal until you destroy it! He did come from Healing Church but he uses a rather Pthumerian magic (red skulls and all), and is himself a Pthumerian (who are ancestors of Vilebloods, the Pthumeru Ihyll ones in particular)!
My idea about him being weirdly Cainhurst-ish all things considered was that he picked on some sort of curse when he killed the King, as lore does say that his intention to gatekeep anyone from Annalise is to "protect". Like some twisted self-sacrifice connected with the fact that Annalise can't be killed, just trapped apparently.. well, Alfred didn't end well after killing her, right? Who the fuck knows what is the price for killing a Vileblood royalty? Logarius got effected but could handle it, Alfred was young and vulnerable though. But now that I think about it, maybe him knowing similar tricks prior massacre helped to "cancel out" whatever advantage Cainhurst Vilebloods had with no-heals, making Executioners even stronger 🤔
There are just various working variants!

bloodborne oc i've been obsessed with lately -- ephraim , tamer of beasts. more info on him below the cut !!!
[ tried to do an actual image description for these, suggestions would be appreciated , just be courteous =) ]
he's a vileblood of pthumerian descent, orphaned at a young age as his parents were captured by the church and dishonorably killed as per their bigoted agenda—in his later years, he was adopted by queen annalise & her king to be part of her personal knightly entourage, and to defend her in the event of mishaps that happened within cainhurst castle within this same entourage he met one of his closest friends, a man by the name of deirdre—he was not naturally a vileblood, and instead, came from yharnam and swore oath to the cainhurst vilebloods, later being adopted into this personal entourage that ephraim met him in however, being that he was closer to that of yharnam than the vilebloods, deirdre's ability to withstand the old blood was futile compared to the vilebloods (i have a little headcanon that because of the vileblood's blood potency they have a higher tolerance to beasthood than yharnamites do) and, of course, deirdre gave into the call of beasthood, transforming into an unsightly, leucistic beast of bird/canine-like complexion
naturally, the knights of cainhurst believed the only way to save him was to euthanize him. he'd lost his conscience and sanity, had he not? what more would there be to do with him? but ephraim sought differently ephraim used his status and power to prevent the other cainhurst knights from slaughtering him in the belief that he could at least try to return conscienceness to deirdre's beastly form—which, ended up being successful, using bribes of ephraims own potent blood. inevitably, the executioners of the church arrived and the massive vileblood massacre happened. bloodlickers showed up to feed on the corpses and the vilebloods swiftly died out in number just over the course of a few days—however, before the collapse of the bridge from cainhurst to hemwick charnel lane, ephraim and deirdre were able to successfully escape the executioners with their lives, later ending up in yharnam
ephraim is now recognized as the tamer of beasts by the little hunters who recognize his name, especially being identifiable by his albino complexion and the gigantic beast he rides on horseback where-ever necessary
ephraim has corruption rune patterns all around his uniform ! the ribbon around his waist, on his arm guards, and on the guards covering his eyes. theyre a symbol of his faith to cainhurst despite his circumstance.
the white feathered fluff upon his cape is fur he cut off of deirdre to sharpen him up.
his cape is one sided and stays to his left, just like the sets that vileblood descendants and knights wear in the canon (cainhurst set, knights set, maria set)
the flames that burn on some parts of his clothes are representations of his 'flame of ambition' if you would, how he is incredibly durable and persistant, the same qualities that allowed him to save deirdre's life
being a pthumerian, ephraim's eyes are pitch black, and so is the inside of his mouth. his cheek bones are incredibly defined and some parts of his skin are darker than the others, like his cheeks and lips
he wears some laced accessories because that was another large part of cainhurst fashion
the spurs on his boots are to kick deirdre to make him go faster — basically they serve the same function that spurs do with horses, except his are a lot sharper because they gotta get through deirdre's thick fur

Fun detail about the Cainhurst equipment in Bloodborne: The Cainhurst set is one of the few armor pieces in the game which are actual metal armor, and there is a cool lore reason for it!
We know that the reason hunters don't wear metal armor is that it doesn't do much to protect you from the beasts. Indeed, the Cainhurst Knight's set is leather/fabric for this very reason (emphasis mine):
Attire of the knights of Cainhurst. A regal piece graced by intricate goldwork. The Cainhurst way is a mix of nostalgia and bombast. They take great pride even in the blood-stained corpses of beasts that they leave behind, confident that they will stand as examples of decadent art.
The Cainhurst armor, however, is different (emphasis mine):
Silver armor worn by the royal guards who protect Annalise, Queen of the Vilebloods at Cainhurst Castle. This paper-thin silver armor is said to deflect blood of ill- intent, and is what allows the royal guards to capture prey for their beloved Queen, so that one day, she may bear a Child of Blood.
The Cainhurst Armor was made for those who would be fighting humans, not beasts! Whether as guards against any would-be assassins, or as hunters of blood dregs (which you only get from still-human hunters).
The other metal armor pieces in the game follow this trend as well. The Gold Ardeo was worn by the Executioners who hunted the Vilebloods, and the Yahar'gul set (worn by people who kidnap, you guessed it, humans) comes with an iron helm which calls this out explicitly (emphasis mine):
Iron helmet worn by hunters of the Unseen Village. Removing the hood reveals something reminiscent of a warrior of a previous age. This headwear is made of metal, a rarity for hunter garb, and has high defense, but only against physical attacks.
A previous age of warfare, perhaps? There's indications of war in the Chalice Dungeons, with armored bodies and piles of weapons scattered throughout (incidentally, the armor found on the bodies in the chalices is the same as the armor worn by some of the people in the paintings at Cainhurst).
So yeah! Metal armor is for hunters/soldiers who fight people, leather or cloth armor is for hunters/knights who fight beasts.
