also while im at it, those who follow my main account probably heard me talking about an ARPG (art role play group) on Deviant Art im in, called Grimsby Grove, with a semi closed evoluting species, and sometimes i have fun making fake designs for arknights characters because the brainrot is just too strong and i get funny ideas with the mechanisms and stuff available in the group

currently the group is closed because of halloween event happening (which is why i am very busy art wise, i have so much on my plate), but the discord is still open and u can hang out there if u wanna, i will pass say hello

can the "finding your art style" discussion finally end because it does nothing but feeds people's insecurity and obsession with finding something... that they already have?

i've been there, trust me. growing up i was obsessed with "finding" my own art style. but you know what it only did? it made me almost quit drawing altogether on many occasions when in reality i already had one.

an art style is how you interpret everything around you through the act of creation. it's how you draw right now. it's how you place the lines. your line-weight. it's how you draw the eyes. it's how you shade.

an art style grows with you. it grows with your improvement. of course you can explore and bump it up by testing bits and pieces from art you love. but you don't add those bits to nothing. you add to what you already have, to the art style you already have. it's how you draw.

#lave talks #random ramble but i just saw another youtube video that's supposed to be a guide on how to find your art style #like dude. everyone who draws has an art style. everyone who writes has their own writing style #it will improve with you #it will grow with you #you can spice it up with things you like and enjoy. but it will always be there the second you pick up a pen #the refined art styles you see in experienced artists' portfolio is there because they've been drawing for decades and refined #what they already had. they polished their craft and their style followed. it will be the same with you. you just need to allow yourself #time for that growth #let's stop feeding into this idea that you don't have an art style until you do xyz #it almost ruined drawing for me #artist community #artists #artist #artist support #artist struggles #artist spotlight #art style #art tag #artists on tumblr #art discussion

sometimes i like to imagine a future where i write that (y/a or adult targeted) dragon book series i desperately want to, but i know that i wouldn't be able to do it without including art in the book. every time a new important character is introduced the next page would have to be a reference / art of them to Show What They Look Like

bimonthly request to everyone struggling w energy/executive dysfunction/etc but wanting to create things: try origami. im so serious.

#'i hate my art style' -> HAH. there is no style in origami there r only fixed directions #'i struggle with long-term projects' -> a crane is super quick and easy to make and if u get pretty paper it looks like a decorative piece #'i dont want to think too much' -> after the initial cost of watching a tutorial the rest becomes muscle memory for certain designs #'it's too difficult' -> there are varying levels of complexity in designs online and u can easily find simple pieces that still look pretty #and lastly #people find little paper craft gifts adorable #and u get the dopamine hit of 'i made a thing' with a comparably low input cost #this is coming from the bitch who cant draw or write without nearly screaming from how much she hates her lack of skill #origami is accessible to my piece of shit meanie brain

i really feel like if i could just stick to one thing and really practise at it and dedicate time to getting good i could get REALLY good. but unfortunately my brain only allows me to do enough of one thing at a time to get Pretty Good at it before i get bored of it and won't do it again for months or years while i get Pretty Good at some other things.

#i know the whole jack of all trades master of none better than master of one stuff but #i just wanna be really good at something. i don't feel like i'm exceptionally good at anything #like i do art stuff for fun but deep down i do genuinely want to master a certain craft #like embroidery or lino printing or whatever #and have it be really genuinely creative and impressive #but i physically cannot garner that focus at will. with the adhd and whatnot #i can also never stick to one style or theme or anything that would make the art recognisably mine #i flit about between different subjects and mediums and styles and themes all the time i don't have a Thing

My senior show is also so stupid lol like I am never again in my life gonna put my artwork in a gallery setting that's just not something I enjoy at ALL or aspire to do but I have to do this whole big terribly stressful thing in order to graduate and it's SO DUMB

#💭#i may be a studio art major but like. not... actually LOL #like i am but uh. i'm just like. whatever idc...#i don't necessarily regret going to college i wouldn't have met some important friends otherwise #including my bf lol he didn't go to my school but he was a friend from high school of a friend i made at school #and a lot of the actual things i've gotten to try in studio classes have been fun and cool opportunities #like quilting and ceramics and oil painting etc...#and some stuff i learn in classes like art history and other stuff can be really interesting to learn #but the like... expectations side of it...#not everyone is gonna go above and beyond in class and also like #go on to grad school and eventually make a living off of like solely being a gallery artist or whatever else #i'm gonna like. idk hopefully get some diagnoses soon and mayyyybe get some government benefits that eventually and like #work a calm part time simple not-physically-exhausting job and do commissions or shop stuff or sell crafts etc on the side #ideally speaking etc but. i just wanna have a calm warm cozy healthy life with my bf and family and friends that's all i care about #the world of art school is not really for me lol just bc art is the main thing i do with my time doesn't mean like.#thats the kind of path i'm gonna go down...#i always feel like no one in those settings thinks my main art i make is professional or original or my full capability anyway lol #cuz it's fanart or cartoony or whatever #i make lots of other art too and can do all kinds of styles but i shouldn't have to do it to like. prove myself #no one should #sorry so much rambling lol #i'm just frustrated and stressed

Attempting to create my own pattern for a white cabled sweater pray for me
