3Bs Project #1: (Biyoushi)
Tumblr media
3Bs are known as the three male professions that women should avoid to date in Japan: a biyoushi (hairstylist), a band member, and a bartender.
pairing : hairstylist! Yuta Nakamoto x homebody! Reader
word count : 3.3k words
genre : angst, fluff, a little crack because of Ten
summary : Your bestfriend dragged you to a hair salon because of a blind date. Who would have known that you’ll fall for the hairstylist?
taglist:  @ailoveyuta @aiforyuu @yutazen01 @2-3-t-i @cosmiclatte28  @readers-posts @ytzvivi @onefoureightfive
This is supposed to to be one of the fics I write the Spring Fling event from one NCT network but things happened at home that I can’t write anything. I also feel bad for not posting any scenarios these past few days so please accept this apology even if it’s late.
"I don't want to."
"Y/N, you needed this." Your bestfriend, Ten, sighed. "All you do is stay in your room all day. You need to go out, have a life."
You rolled your eyes at that. You're happy staying inside your room, the scent of coffee and old page books tingling your senses. The life that you're comfortable with. "When was the last time you went on a date with someone?"
"I'm not interested."
"I didn't say anything." You stared at him, eyebrows raised. You knew him like the back of your hand, it must be another guy he's setting you up with. "Okay okay, but he's nice. You'll be a great match." You shook your head at that.
The last time he introduced you to his friend, you became the mess you are today. "Come on, please. I told him that I'm introducing him to someone, please save me."
"Don't you have any female friends?"
"You're my favorite." You had to smile at that. You knew Ten wouldn't harm you, even apologizing profusely for what his friend did to you. "Please, Y/N."
You breathed heavily then nodded. Here goes nothing.
--
Ten suggested that you should do something about yourself first. You had taken decent baths, what does he mean by that? "When was the last time you had a salon appointment?" He asked, holding your hair. You shrugged, you haven't really thought about it. "This won't do. Let's get you a haircut."
That's honestly not bad so you went with him to this hair salon owned by his friend. The interior was really pretty, a seemingly calming place. Maybe you'll get your salon appointments here from now on. Your friend talked to someone inside the salon and you waited, sitting on the couch. All this trouble because of a blind date. Ten might be introducing you to some hotshot.
The curtains opened as your friend called you inside, gesturing to a chair for you to sit. "I already talked to Yuta about what to do to you. Just trust him." Should you? You cannot trust Ten but you feel bad that he's doing this much for you.
A guy your age, with shiny black hair, went out of the other side of the curtain with hairdressing tools on a cart. You thought Yuta is a girl, surprised he is a guy. He's going to do your hair? "Yuta, this is Y/N. Baby, this is Yuta. He styles my hair and he's amazing in his job." The other man smiled warmly and you have to note that he looks handsome. "I'll leave you to him. I have to get you some clothes."
You called for your friend's name but he was already out of the curtain you went in earlier. You sighed then sat up properly when the guy pushed the cart with tools beside you. "Hi." he greeted, sitting on a stool behind you. Your eyes met on the mirror in front and you gave him a timid smile. "A blind date?"
You nodded. How did he know that? Did Ten tell him? "We have to charm the guy you're going to see, don't we?" Again, you nodded with a smile. "What style do you want with your hair?"
"I'm honestly not sure." You whispered, realizing that you must have thought about this before going here. "Is it rude if I ask you to just do what you want with my hair?" He chuckled before shaking his head. "You can cut it or even color it."
He held your hair and you felt yourself tingle at the gentleness of his touch. "Your hair feels silky. I want to color it but we don't have time." He mumbled, "I'll just layer your hair and do some curls." You nodded, it's his craft and he knows what he's doing.
Ten was right, you just have to trust him.
His hands felt light in your hair, the sound of the scissors occupying the silence along with the faint music from the radio. You saw how your hair changed drastically in every snip and when he styled your hair using the curling iron, you only gasped. You look different and it's just a simple haircut.
"Wow, you look…" Ten gasped as Yuta removed the black cloth covering your body from the hair he cut. "That's some real magic, Yuta."
He shook his head, staring at you. "She's pretty, to begin with." You felt a blush on your cheeks as he said those words. He stood in front of you, twirling a curled hair. "If your date goes well, would you like to color your hair pink? It will look nice."
You nodded, wanting to color your hair instead of the date to go well.
Damn it. You don't even want to go on a date but now, you want this date to go well so you can color your hair and meet the hairstylist again.
So you listened patiently to this hotshot guy, that is supposed to be Ten's friend, yap about his trip abroad and that you should go out of the country to live your life. All night, he kept on saying things about himself not even bothering to ask you a question. He even ordered cheesecake for you, which you do not even like, wanting the carrot cake. Instead of driving you home with his Maserati, he asked you to take a cab.
And then he ghosted you. No message, no call. Nothing. You kind of expected it but maybe, you aren't meant to date someone.
You ruffled your hair in annoyance, a strand of hair falling in front of your face. Maybe you should reinvent yourself. Try again. Be a rebel. Live your life.
You'll color your hair pink.
You don't even know how to ask Ten about the hair salon's number to get an appointment so you just went to the said salon and hoped that it isn't that busy. That Yuta is there to help you.
A young man was in the reception, asking you what you need and if you have an appointment. "No, I don't." You answered then smiled. "I'll just come back…"
The curtains opened and Yuta came out with an older woman next to him. He gave you a smile before facing the woman who held his shoulder, sliding a hand down on his arm. "Thank you, darling. I'll see you soon." Yuta thanked her and she took some cash from her purse to pay, even giving Yuta some more cash that surprised you. That's a huge tip. Is Yuta just a hairstylist?
"You're back," he said when the older woman left the shop and you nodded. "You're finally coloring your hair?" You nodded. "It will take some time though, do you have anything else to do after?"
"No. But I haven't had an appointment so…"
"It's fine. We're closing anyway." It makes you feel bad. He's staying extra hours just for you. "Haechan, you can go first. Just close the door when you leave, I'll lock up after this."
The younger nodded. "Hyung, there are CCTVs here. Just a reminder."
"I know, you punk." He said before turning to you, "Shall we?" Shall you? Why are you suddenly nervous? He told you to sit on the chair facing the mirrors. "So, pink?" You hummed in response.
"I can just go back tomorrow if you want."
"You're already here. And please, just tonight, can you save me from loneliness?" Your eyes widened at that. What? "No, that sounded wrong." He said with a giggle. "I just don't want to go home early to an empty apartment."
So he lives alone? No wife? No girlfriend? But of course, you cannot ask that. It would be weird.
Yuta sat on the stool behind you, mixing something from a plastic bowl. "So the date went well?"
You sighed then shook your head. Why does he have to remind you of that? He put some chemical in your hair, "What happened?" He's curious? Even Ten didn't ask you what happened. "If you're comfortable telling me." But then, maybe he can tell you what's wrong with you. He's a guy after all.
So you told him about what happened, that he's a nice guy but he seemed so high for you. He's so accomplished that you feel like a potato next to him. "Did he call you?" You shook your head then stopped, apologizing for your action. "He's a jerk. If he doesn't like you, he should say something. Not make you wait. That's such a dick move."
You giggled. Why is he so angry? "I hope you don't feel bad about yourself. You deserve more than that stupid excuse for a guy." Again, you laughed. He had his way with words. He might be a ladies' man.
"I'm done with the dating thing." You mumbled. "It's more fun to stay at home."
"Then your pink hair will be useless."
It was one of the decisions that you didn't regret. Yuta was right, the pink hair does look good. It doesn't look awkward than what you imagined and you thanked him repeatedly for the new look. He shook his head, pushing the loose strand of your hair behind your ear. "It suits you because you're pretty."
Damn, why is he like this? You could feel your heartbeat wilding in your chest. "It's late. I'll walk you home." Your eyes widened in surprise. He'll walk you home? He started fixing the things he used while you think of something, anything just to not let him walk you home.
"You don't have to walk me home. I'll just take the bus."
"Then let me just walk you to the bus stop." You nodded, waiting for him and seated on the couch by the reception. It is truly dark, did it really take a long time for her hair to turn pink? When you heard the light switch gets turned off, you stood up and Yuta went out from the other side of the curtain wearing a different shirt, a faint smell of musky cologne hitting your nose. "Let's go."
You nodded then followed him to the door which he opened for you. The walk was kind of short but you were thankful that he's gentleman enough to walk to the dangerous side of the road. "How many stops before you get home?"
"Five stops then a little walk."
Yuta nodded, thinking deeply. "An hour tops." He whispered that made you look at him. He took out his phone, handing it to you. "Put your number in, I'll message you." This is weird. "If you're not home after an hour, I'll call the cops." You giggle at that, handing back his phone which had your number in. He called your number and it vibrated on your pocket, "Or message me if you got home."
The bus is approaching yet you don't want to leave. Yuta is so charming, it's crazy. You like talking to him. "Thank you, Yuta." You said while standing up, watching as the bus opened the doors.
"Take care, Y/N." He said in the softest yet audible voice possible.
It was when you sat on the bus when you realized things. He makes your heart flutter. He's such a gentleman. And he listens to you. You like a guy like him.
You like him.
You saw your reflection from the dark window amidst the city lights. This is just you. You'll never be enough for him. He's perfect. You shouldn't keep your hopes up. You saw a strand of pink hair on your shoulder and gasp, you didn't even pay him. Quickly, you typed in a message apologizing that you forgot to pay him or give him a tip and even saying that you'll just send the payment online or tomorrow.
A reply came quickly, 'It's fine. Thank you for letting me play on your hair.'
You giggled. Play? The color is really pretty and it’s just playing for him? He is amazing. 'I'm sorry. I'll pay you, I promise.'
'No worries, Y/N.' Another one, 'But can you not give up on dating yet? Go on dates, make boys cry. You deserve it.'
Go on dates? He wanted you to go meet other guys? And you thought there's something special between the two of you. Maybe it's just you.
Why is this more heartbreaking than that guy from the blind date not calling you back?
'I will. Thank you again, Yuta.' You closed your phone, sighing hard.
You do like him.
----
"Y/N, wakey wakey." Ten sang, opening the door of your room and you covered your head with the blanket. "Oh, you colored your hair pink. It looks good." He complimented, sitting on your bed.
You groaned. It's still early. "It's been two days."
"And your phone is unreachable." He grabbed your phone from the bedside table, opening it to reveal endless pings and missed calls. "Yuta? The hairstylist Yuta? Yuta Nakamoto?" You didn't know that Yuta is Japanese, he's so fluent in the language. And why is Ten reacting like that? Your phone vibrated, followed by a ringtone for calls. "Yuta is calling."
But before you could get your phone, Ten already clicked the phone and from the speaker, you can hear the worry in Yuta's voice. "God, Y/N. What happened to you? Are you kidnapped or something? Hey, can you answer? Should I call the police?"
Ten gave you a knowing look but you just shook your head. "Hi, Yuta." He greeted and the said guy stopped then asked who it was. "It's Ten." You heard a breath of relief on the other line. Why is he shaking you like this? "Y/N?" You don't want to talk to him yet so you gestured for Ten to cut off the call by moving your finger across your neck. "She's dead."
"What?" You slapped Ten's arm before getting the phone from him, transferring it to handset mode. "What do you mean she's dead? Ten!" Why does he sound so angry?
"Yuta." You called and he stopped. "It's Y/N. Ten is just being stupid." The other guy rolled his eyes at that.
"Hey." There was a softness in his voice when he said that word. "I was worried. What happened?"
I like you. And it doesn't seem like you like me too. So I have to guard my heart, that's what happened. "I got sick. Sorry."
"Are you feeling any better now? Do you want anything?" Your stomach felt sick at that, like little butterflies fluttering their wings inside you. Why is he like this? "You should rest. I'm sorry for calling you, I'm just worried."
"Thank you." You don't want to say anything. You might blow your cover. And before he could say anything else, you dropped the call. You lie on your bed once again, covering yourself with a blanket. Why does this have to happen to you? You were having a quiet life. Now, he's shaking you up like this.
Ten pulled the blanket away from you. "You like him, don't you?" You nodded, tears springing from your eyes. He doesn't seem like he likes you too. You told him about the older woman while sobbing in his arms and how he listens to you. How your heart misbehaves when he's near and how you can feel the butterflies inside you because of his voice. "They were right when they said that it's hard to date a hairstylist. They usually have female customers but it's their job." He explained and you nodded. "Should I ask Yuta? I'm going to the salon today anyways."
You shook your head. This your own feelings, you can take care of it. "But can you just send him my payment for the hair color?"
"You didn't even pay for it?"
-----
It's been days since the last call from Yuta and every time you can see the pink strand of your hair, you can't help but wonder what he is doing. Is he also thinking about you? You sighed, that was a stupid question. Of course not. Why would he?
And it's frustrating to know that you were heartbroken by a guy who was never yours in the first place. More reasons to stop yourself from dating.
You saw your phone blinked, a message from Ten 'Come to Moon Cafe, 2 pm.'
You rolled your eyes, another blind date. 'Please Y/N. I'll stop if he's not the right guy for you.' Why is he so sure of this?
'And he's begging me to have this date with you.' What? He was the one who wanted to date you?
You were hopeful. Maybe this is it. But damn it, this can lead to another heartbreak.
You were curious. Who is this guy? The waitress welcomed you, asking for a reservation and you said your name, "Your date is here." Already? Your hands were sweating as you followed her to the table where your date is. A mop of black hair is all you can see before you stop in front of a table.
Your eyes widened in surprise. Yuta. "Hi." he greeted, standing immediately. The waitress said that she'll be back with the menu as he slid the chair for you to sit on.
"Wait. You?" You asked when he sat opposite you, napkins in front of him.
He nodded then handed you the paper bouquet made from the napkins. "I didn't know if you liked flowers so this is safer. I'll just buy you one later if you want." You shook your head. This is cute. He sighed, a heavy breath as if relieving some nerves. "I'm sorry. I kinda asked Ten for help just to see you."
So this isn't a date. Maybe he's just worried about you. You were right, this can lead to a heartbreak. But you're happy that it was still Yuta. "I like talking to you, Y/N." You stared at him in surprise. What? "I like hearing your stories, especially your voice." Is this some kind of a fever dream? "And I deeply regret that I didn't get to walk you home that night. I mean, I don't have a fancy car but I really want to spend time with you."
You gasped. Is this all true? Yuta is saying those words to you? "But please, don't be burdened. This is just my feelings, I can take care of it." You were thankful for the waitress bringing in the menu that you hid your face with the object, promising to kill Ten the next time you see each other. "Y/N, what do you want?" He's asking you what you want?
"The cheesecakes are our…"
Yuta shook his head, "She doesn't like cheesecakes." He listens.
A smile crept on your lips as you told the waitress that you wanted the strawberry cake. Yuta ordered a carrot cake, the cake that you were craving back at the blind date. He's listening. The guy gave you a warm awkward smile when the waitress left the table, "I like your hair."
Weird. You just let your hair down today. If you just knew that you're going on a date with a hairstylist, you should have paid more attention to how you look. You smiled, leaning closer to the table. He was right, you should go on dates. "Then, Yuta, can I make you cry?"
He smiled, nodding at you. "If that's what you want, I won't stop you."
"I like you too, Yuta."
Once again, he smiled. The smile that made your heart beat rapidly in your chest. The smile that made the butterflies in your stomach flutter. The smile that makes you weak in your knees.
Damn it! You're in love. You're going to marry this guy.
This is definitely the last time Ten introduces you to someone.

PANTONE 2046 C
Genre: Fluff, #ZoeAppreciationWeek
Pairing: Zouxie
Summary: The Pink Hair Origin Story (alternatively also the Blue Hair Origin Story)
Word Count: 2788
Author's Note: First day of Zoe Appreciation Week! Wanted to participate so have this not so little one shot to showcase our lovely pink haired witch <3
"Wow, the dye came out really nicely," Zoe murmurs as Douxie exits the bathroom, his hair freshly blown dry -- from its tips to the full bangs dipped in a deep yet striking blue. He smiles widely at the quiet compliment and waves over to Archie.
"How does it look Arch?" they ask, though the answer is pretty clear, if Archie's fond gaze is anything to go by. The familiar flies in to nuzzle his face.
"Dashing as ever, Douxie."
Zoe leans back into the couch with content, taking in the beautiful sight that is her best friend. She did really good. The faint buzz of adrenaline lingers on the pads of her fingers. Right, she forgot. That was her first time.
"Are. You. Crazy? I've never even dyed hair before!" the natural brown haired girl hissed. She begrudgingly wiped the bubblegum that had exploded over her lips -- a result from the initial shock when Douxie first made his request. Granted, she felt honored that they would come to her before anyone else, but still! She can't risk ruining his hair, she doesn't have experience, plus the hair salon could totally do it better and-
"I'd rather it be you than anyone else," the wizard confirmed firmly. Zoe turned to the familiar. Surely the cat who lived with this stubborn kid could knock some sense into them. Archie could only provide a shrug in response.
"They're pretty sure about this."
She groaned.
"Fine, fine! But give me a few days unless you want me to pick out the wrong dye and end up with neon green."
[ 1 Week Later ]
Zoe couldn't keep track of just how many hair channels and blogs she'd gone through. She mimicked their hand movements, using cheap wigs and mannequin heads to simulate the experience. Through it all, one voice echoed the same message: "You can't mess this up."
She bought all the necessary tools. Gloves, hair clips, bleach, foil, just to name a few. Oh, and of course the dye -- though you'll be surprised how one can forget the simplest things while getting caught up in trying to memorize everything. Blue, Douxie had asked for. But what kind of blue? Sky blue? Cobalt? Midnight? Which one? She pinched the bridge of her nose before angrily texting the wizard. It went a little something like this:
DOUX: go with whatever you think will look good! i'm fine with anything tbh :]
ZOE: i Hate you so much
DOUX: ??? WHY
ZOE: IDK SHIT ABOUT HAIR DYE HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT LOOKS GOOD
DOUX: let's talk about this in person before you electrocute your phone again
ZOE: you won't let me live that down will you
DOUX: you know me so well ;)
She shoved the phone back in her pocket. There's no way she was actually doing this for him.
She was.
"Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?" she asked for what would be around the 73rd time. Douxie pulled his face down with both hands.
"Ugh, the answer is still yes, love. I'm not asking you to dye the whole thing, just the front part, bangs and sides."
She rolls her eyes at the nickname and smacks the clean brush against his head. She smiles at the little 'ow' that Douxie lets out with a pout. Hm, cute.
"Alright, but don't start moping around if it doesn't come out the way you wanted it!"
"Nothing that a little magic can't fix if it gets to that point. Which I hardly believe it will."
And now here they are.
Douxie crashes on the couch with Zoe, slinging an arm over her shoulders. She raises an eyebrow at the sudden physical touch, but it's never unwelcome. Not when it comes to him.
"You know of all human creations, I gotta say, this one really takes the cake," they start and Zoe snorts.
"You say that about nearly everything."
"Can you blame me?"
She looks at them and no, she really can't. In fact, she finds herself agreeing with him. He looks... really nice. A faint blush spreads over her face; not that it is noticeable by any means -- the two of them happen to have done this dying process starting from the evening to night, so the dim lights in her home do little to highlight her features. This is still her Douxie, lovable guitarist and wizard nerd who cares about everyone. Yet there was something about the hair dye that changed things up a bit. Something good, naturally.
The two of them fall into a comfortable silence, doing whatever is usually available. Sometimes it's texting, scrolling through social media, or listening to music. Other times it's zoning off and reminiscing about the past.
Zoe decides to go for her phone, unconscious of the way her hand finds its way into Douxie's hair, carding through the locks and untangling them with nimble fingers. It's peaceful. Maybe even a little too peaceful, considering the two of them are adrenaline junkies.
"Douxie, I can hear you thinking..." she begins. It's a common way to start the conversation between them, and oftentimes she's right.
He turns around, her hand still in his hair, but enough to meet her eyes. Their own eyes look serious and her heart sinks. Were they not happy with their hair?
The answer is quite the opposite.
"You ever considered dying your hair too? Maybe we can match."
The untangling stops.
And then the tugging starts.
"Ow ow ow-"
"Hisirdoux Casperan you are a menace to society."
She does though. She considers it for weeks. Of course, Douxie doesn't push; it's her hair at the end of the day, she can do whatever she likes. But after seeing how well she did with the wizard, she kinda felt excited. She definitely can't forget the exhilaration she felt when she saw people compliment Douxie at Benoit's or at the GDT book store. Her heart started beating faster when he looked back at her with a proud smile on his face-- damn that wizard, they told the others that she did it for them, didn't they?
After a few days, a young girl in a cap comes up to her at the record store. Probably from Arcadia High, if her backpack stacked with books is any indication.
"Hi! I'm Claire. Claire Nuñez," the girl starts. Zoe raises an eyebrow in interest.
"Hey Claire. What can I get you?" she asks, raising a flask to her lips. There's no water. Damn.
"Um, it's not really a standard request, but um, I was wondering if you could dye my hair?"
Zoe chokes on her water. Dye her what?
"Kid, are you new here? This is a records store. I can give you the direction to the hair salon it's really not that far."
"No, no, no! It's just, this guy got their hair dyed and I asked if he did it himself and they said you did it for them so I came to you. It's nothing too big! Just a strand really," Claire rambles. She gestures to the invisible front of her hair, currently tucked away behind the cap, outlining it with her fingers. The hedge witch groans.
"That would be Douxie. Now, here's the thing I don't do this for just anyone. Douxie happens to be a close friend so what I did was a little gift for him. I don't even know you, so what do I get out of this?"
Claire pales.
"Uh, $20? I know a full head of hair costs way more but like I said, just a strand..."
Zoe's stomach rumbles in response. She had $5 currently in her wallet which could buy a snack at most. She pinches the bridge of her nose.
"Ugh, you're lucky I'm hungry. Catch me after my shift is done okay? And I only got one color on me, which is blue, you good with that? Otherwise bring your own."
"Yes of course, of course! Thank you so much."
"Yeah, yeah, now scram if you're not here to buy anything."
"Oh actually, I was wondering if you had anything Papa Skull released recently!"
Curse this girl and her good taste in music.
[ 45 minutes later; 2:00 PM ]
"Thank you for doing this by the way," Claire starts. Zoe waves it off. She doesn't really know why she agreed to this. Well kind of. She wanted to eat. But besides that, she also was curious to see if she could satisfy another "customer". Hair dying was never a profession she had properly considered and right now? It doesn't hurt to entertain a thought.
"Alright so I have the bleach, you'll need to let that set in and keep that before dying the strand you want. We can even add toner to neutralize the color post bleaching if necessary," she lists off. Claire shakes her head.
"That won't be necessary!"
The girl pulls off her cap and surely enough, there's a light blonde lock, similar to Douxie's, just a little lighter. Zoe's impressed.
"Well that definitely makes my job easier. Especially since this is my second time."
"Wait, second time?"
"You didn't know?"
"No?"
"Of course Douxie leaves that part out. You want out? I'll pay you back the $20 in four days."
"No, I trust you."
Zoe always believed that she had tough and cold demeanor. Clearly she's doing something wrong if people are finding her trustworthy just by looking at one dye job.
"Alright then, here we go! Don't say I didn't warn you," the witch replies. She wraps the cloth around Claire softly, and pulls up the bowl with the dye in it. With a gloved hand she separates the pale strands from the brown ones. The blue will definitely be more prominent here than it would be with Douxie's. Something tells her that Claire wouldn't mind.
From the looks of Claire's surprise, wonder, and delight, she definitely didn't mind.
"It. Looks. So cool! You're really good at this. Maybe you should start a hair dying salon or something," the girl rattles off. Zoe raises a hand.
"I'm already working two part time jobs so... no. But I'm glad you liked it. The blue looks really good. Stands out well."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Claire repeats, putting back her cap on. A feeling of confusion overcomes Zoe.
"Wait, why are you putting your cap back on? Don't you want to show people?"
"Duh, but um, my mom doesn't know about, uh, all this. You know, councilwoman things."
Zoe's mouth drops, the $20 bill crumpled in her hand. So that's why she didn't go to the hair salon. Nuñez is the councilwoman, so she'd know pretty much everyone in the town. And word spreads pretty fast. In summary: Claire would have gotten caught.
"See ya!"
These kids are going to land her in some serious trouble one day.
With a burger and soda in her tray, Zoe takes a seat and pulls out her phone. That Claire girl though, she's sort of inspiring. Adventurous. Not hesitant in taking chances. And you know Zoe, she absolutely loves the thrills of life. Whether it be hunting magical creatures or refining her usually unpredictable magic. The humans tend to have mellow definition of risk taking, in her opinion, but their examples are fun enough in their own way: crossing the speed limit, riding rollercoasters, anything along those lines. The brunette clicks on a familiar contact and begins typing.
ZOE: which color looks good on me
ZOE: don't ask it's for a stupid job thing
DOUX: which job?
ZOE: WHAT PART OF DON'T ASK
ZOE: hex tech, something for employee uniforms
DOUX: i was going to say pink since it brings out your eyes but if it's for uniforms i dunno, light blue?
ZOE: hm interesting
DOUX: you should just work here at the book store it's chill
ZOE: but then i'd have to deal with you
DOUX: now is that really a bad thing?
DOUX: zoe.
Light blue is definitely a no go, Zoe decides. Too much blue dye going around. But pink, hm she could work with that. It's a pretty bold color and it would compliment her eyes as well as her face in general. A win-win for her.
And as for how far she's willing to go? She decides to go all in. No tips, no ombre, just complete bubblegum hair. Of course this takes a few days to gather the guts.
'You can do it Zoe, just go for the bleach,' she thinks to herself. Her hands shake with nervousness and excitement. Frankly, hunting niffins didn't compare to the rush she's feeling right now. She closes her eyes and brings the brush to her hair.
Well, here goes nothing.
She winces as she feels the tingling sensation, but loads of videos have assured that such symptoms were normal. She continues to work at it, using the foil to make sure she doesn't bleach a part of her hair to death. It's long and strenuous, but she knows the results in the few coming weeks would be worth it.
She doesn't have to worry about Douxie finding out thankfully. Turns out these weeks are essential for Merlin's "To-Do" List. Apparently it was to find Camelot?
"The castle he means. Not the actual kingdom. That's been gone for centuries. Anyways, I'll be back once I actually find it. Dunno how I'll do it and it probably will take me and Arch a month or so, haha. Oh! And if my hirers ask you anything, it's a family emergency."
Hm, whatever. A brief thought of Merlin dying his hair neon green amuses her, before she goes back to watching more hair dye videos. They've become a little addicting nowadays. She's amazed at how often people do it. How do they keep their hair so healthy?
It's been four weeks now and Zoe's eyes stare at the pink concoction in her hand. PANTONE 2046 C. This was the shade that stole her heart in the middle of the hair dye aisle. No other color could compare in the slightest. Even the cashier who packaged her order hummed in approval.
"Nice color! Not many go for it, but it'll suit you for sure."
This time her movements are calculated, not clumsy or fear driven like it used to be. One could even say she's getting the hang of this. Her hair over time changes from platinum blonde to a dark matted pink. She lets it sit for a bit, meanwhile focusing on getting the dye out of her hands. This turns out to be harder than she thought and she sighs. Well, maybe another day.
After washing and blow drying her hair, she stands in front of the mirror. The witch staring back at her is almost unrecognizable. As if she were a new person completely. And she liked it.
The blank stare shifts into a grin and she tugs at her own locks. Goddamn. She looks really good.
And well, Douxie's reaction is priceless to say the least.
DOUX: you said to meet up at the museum where are you
DOUX: i swear if you slept in i'll send archie to knock down everything in your apartment
DOUX: ok no i won't but still it's been a month since we last saw each other come on
DOUX: wait a second
DOUX: you're joking
DOUX: IS THAT??? YOU????
DOUX: IN THE PINK
DOUX: oh fuzzbuckets you look stunning
DOUX: Hello this is Archie. You broke Douxie so could you please finish your conversation with whoever it is you're with and come pick him up? Your hair is absolutely lovely by the way.
ZOE: omfg
ZOE: can't take you guys anywhere
The witch smiles at the girls and nods over to a gaping Douxie and his cat before gracefully exiting the conversation. She approaches her friend and pushes his jaw up with her index finger.
"So I'm assuming you're digging the new look hm?" she teases.
"You have no idea," Douxie responds. A pink tint lighter than the shade of her hair blooms across Zoe's face at the expression of adoration in her best friend's eyes. The two of them have been through a lot together, seeing each other grow and change. And this time, it was a really fun and welcome one.
"I might try this again with a different color some time. You wanna join then?"
"Don't have to ask me twice."
It's crazy how all of this came from a chaotic, impulsive research project to help a friend. But honestly Zoe wouldn't have it any other way.
Maybe Douxie was right. Of all human creations, this one beats pretty much everything else.

ONF and their high maintenance S/O (mostly about makeups and manicures)
dislcaimer : I dont support the mentality of aegyoing/manipulating/sabotaging your partner to buy you stuffs. Gifts are gifts but its not their are not full responsibility. It is also not a duty/obligation for your partner to recognize delicate makeup product when they can't and buy you your makeup product as well.
What i am saying even though here is that bf gifting lipsticks it does not mean guys should do it and also does not mean that if your own bf could not do it then they dont love you. ok let go to hcs.
Hyojin
I think he will ask you to drop the heavy makeup after you two are comfortable with each other. To him it was not your makeup that impressed him to date you.
He is the type that "I don't get make up but ok you look good" type of person, I mean have you watched how he get ready to go out in the Berlin trip? He just do basic stuffs not even a delicate touch XD
I think because he has a sister back at home? But if you think he will at least know a bit of stuffs because he has a sister then you are wrong lol
But he does understand if you wanna doll up a bit. I think he personally appreciates those times when he caught himself felt that you are dazzling.
I think its cute that maybe you only do basic light make up when going out with him but then when you join him with his friends, you wanna look good so you will put on proper make up (not over heavy ones). But Hyojin be like , " oh, come on... Its just my friends XD"
He is the type that waits for you, unless you have really bad time management, he will come over to rush you. "Hey hey hey, we are gonna be late"
Does not interested at make up or beauty stuffs so he would always questions with curiosity when he saw stuffs like.. " Glue? for what? Eyelashes? Won't it be dangerous?" (Especially you are the type that watches make up vids)
Bonus, you are in charge of his skin care, most of the time.
another bonus, the type that laughs at you if you are the type that opens your mouth when you are drawing eyeline
Changyoon
Very similar to Hyojin so I will skip make up and focus on the nail polish
(Also expanding the Changyoon who loves your hand hcs)
He knows of nail polish and the basic stuffs like base, polish and top, but did not pay full attention on manicure and pedicure stuffs
So when the first time you brought out mini UV light to cure your nails, he goes " Woah they got stuffs like that? why no one told me? I spend minutes blowing at my nails to dry during BB era"
Bonus if you work in nail salon or pick up manicure as hobby, i think you might share a bit of design you found online and ask him his opinions. His will comment a bit.
Also you might grasp his hands and try out newly thought designs on his hands
Bonus if he blushes and burst into laughter until you jokingly snap at him, "Ya, its not the first time I do design test out using your hands? Why are you beet red?"
To go deep into his mentality, he does not hate make up, he gets it. But for manicure he acknowledges it as art expression of oneself as well.
I think he prefer short nail manicure, once you get a longer sharper designs and you cant do your task like how you did normally, Changyoon nags you.
Also Changyoon thoughts on fake nail stickers, "Super convenient!"
He would love to try do your manicures if he got the chance. Not just painting plain color, he might also try following designs that your show him.
Seungjun
He is a delicate boy hahahah (watch leaders Berlin trip then you will get it)
Not the type that can recognize different shades of lipstick or foundation, but he still have basic knowledge. I do see is the type that will keep in mind what color you uses and will present you your favorite lipstick color. Or even randomly choose 1 color that he thinks it might look good on you.
I think you two will stand side by side in front of mirror and do make up and help each other check a bit. Especially eye shadow color, and hairstyles (if it is outdoor date day)
The type that notices changes on you but will tease you by keep saying the wrong answers. "Hey you look different? Is it the eyeshadow? Or was it a new earring? eh I was wrong?*devilsh smile"
He has two sisters so he is used and knows that girls and high maintenance people wears makeup. BB cream at least.
Fascinated when he first time sees you do your own manicure, he saw Changyoon paint nails during BB era, but if it is his first time seeing you painting quite complicated nail design from scratch, he goes "OOOOOOH so thats is how it done? 0A0"
I think he might introduce his sisters to you if you are a makeup artist or if you work at nail salon
Bonus if you are the type that do really minimum skin care, because of his (idk if i am using the right word) eagerness of doing facial mask, you might pick that up too lol
Both of you having facial mask on and chilling on the couch watching TV
another bonus, you two bickering because either one of you made the other one laugh too much making the mask cracked if it is dried up cream type.
Jaeyoung
He is like a combination of Hyojin and Seungjun?
Not sure on his skin care stuff but he will do basic stuff and I think he focus on stylizing his hair more? (but unlike Seungjun, Jaeyoung is more on styling using wax and hairspray)
the type who cant tell difference in lipstick shade lol
He thinks light makeup with less procedure/product look good on you. Especially if you are the one who is super insecure and wakes up super early to do heavy but natural looking makeup before work
Owh special mention, natural shade/nude shade themed makeup is his favourite
He has high respect on people who are high maintenance, but if you are too over enthusiastic he will tell you to slow down and go light heart on it, "Its to boost confidence/feel good about yourself right? Its not to impress others by overdoing it right?"
If you are a tiktok-er. I think you might ask Jaeyoung to do the my boyfriend did my make up challenge (To add, you cant trust Hyojin and Seungjun on this cos high chance if their prank mode kick in, rip. Changyoon will do it tho but you need to persuade him. Jaeyoung and Minkyun are the easiest to ask)
If sometimes Jaeyoung caught seeing you watching manicure design vids or you happened to try out a new manicure design from tutorial you saw online, he will sit beside, try hard to not disturb you. But while watching he will goes "Uwa, Shingi hada/ this is intriguing/amazing." (Try watch Mini game heaven season 2 0316, when he is the one holding the word board, the face he make as he is watching the leaders appeared in my head when writing this lol)
bonus, if you are doing really intricate work like placing a small sticker or draw a small design or sticking a small trinket? on your nails, Jaeyoung will also focus with you by holding his breath as he watches you doing your tasks
Minkyun
You trusted this boy to do BF do my makeup challenge and you regret it soon after, but the view results are amazing lol
but i think their S/O might lowkey get trauma lol and always decline Minkyun offer to help do makeup hahah
But again, when he do try to do it properly, he is ok
bonus, you two had to get another mirror because Minkyun is standing in front yours to check himself out every time he styles his hair a single bit, and it delays your pace of doing your make up.
Appreciate effort of you wanna look good, also he is the type who sits behind S/O while waiting them to finish up makeup (others will wait outside, But Minkyun is the type I want see whole process of how their S/O "transform")
Also the one who will sit beside you as you do your own manicure, or, the bf who will sit beside their S/O at nail salon watching the whole process.
But his hands are busy as he is also curious, so he will reach out to check the nail polish bottle or even the UV cure machine
So, he is also the type that will follow you into Sephora or makeup selling shops (is not that the others wont follow, but I want to highlight specifically for Minkyun). Hands busy, checking out stuffs.
Unlike Seungjun, the type that really cant tell if you change new lipstick or switched new eyeshadow.
BUT I THINK THIS PERSON, HE WILL SUDDENLY DROP A NEON EYESHAOW OUT OF BLUE IN FRONT OF YOU WHEN YOU ARE PAYING. You are gonna fluster if you are not the type who do daring colors. Minkyun only giggles and say " You wont know if you don't like it if you try?"
the funny bit, its not even him paying when he wants you to try lol
He is more of skincare type person. Similar to Seungjun, both of you cuddling with sheet masks on.
Yuto
The one who sticks to basic stuffs, skincare mostly
Also the type who will try to do makeup challenge diligently, asking you how should he do it rather than making a mess on your face.
The type that gives you thumbs up and affirming nods when you ask him how do you look.
He won't comment too much or nags/persuade you to stop doing heavy makeup eventually because he respects effort and confidence boost behind your makeup/high maintenance mentality
But he is flustered when you suddenly did a "I did a instagram summer gal makeup and show my bf" (for example) as it was way different and you look different. The moment you suggest to make this makeup theme as your usual, YUTO PANICKED, "Stop, stop, Mon sori yo? / What did you just say?"
IF you are office worker, he will nag at you if you are thinking straight to wear that makeup to office lol
The type that just quietly follows behind you when you are doing your shopping tour at Sephora or makeup shop.
But he will stop you if he sees your eyes gleaming as you stand at lipsticks corner lol (If you are the type who loves to collect and have too much lipsticks)
Occasionally surprise you with your fave lipstick color as well. Especially on early days of the relationship, you think he is the type that does not care. But turns out he is observant (because it is you so he is observant at your favorite stuffs)
Owh... i think he will be the perfume sensitive type person? He will mention what type of fragrance that he think you will go along well with.
Also I think the type who will recognizes if you changed perfume. Also the type who recognizes if you used his.
He might ask you to try on a sample and then you two might get a couple lover perfume/fragrance.
A/n : finally T^T this draft is in draft for like what... 6 months??? T^T

Tumblr media
These two questions are quite similar, so I hope you don’t mind me answering in the same ask.
First of all, it’s maybe a good idea to visit my curly hair tag - I’ve talked a lot about curly hair maintenance before, and it is worth re-reading.
My number one piece of advice to you BOTH is probably the most important thing I will ever say to any person ever:
IF YOU WANT A GOOD CURLY HAIRCUT.... GO TO A CURLY HAIR-SPECIFIC SALON!
I am SERIOUS! There is a reason that curly haired people everywhere consistently say that they do NOT trust straight-haired stylists with their hair. That’s because stylists who are not specially trained with curly hair will consistently BUTCHER curly hair cuts. I am not exaggerating.
Things that are red flags when someone is cutting your curly hair:
- They wash/shampoo it before they cut it
- They use a hair dryer on a high setting
- They re-curl your hair with a curling iron after they’re done cutting
Here’s some basic, run of the mill rules that your stylist absolutely MUST follow if you have curly hair:
1) ALWAYS cut curly hair when it’s DRY!
Why? Because unlike straight hair, curly hair behaves completely differently when it’s wet vs. when it’s dry. Cutting it while wet guarantees you that your haircut will look completely different the next day. In fact, it guarantees that your haircut will probably not look good the next day either.
Curly hair loses inches when it dries. The shape, the length, it all changes!
Tumblr media
I think it’s fair to say we all notice this, but when it’s wet, curly hair could almost pass for straight hair. Don’t fall for this trick!
Tumblr media
In a good haircut, what you need is to be able to see how the hair falls when you are finished drying it. For this reason, curly hair is always cut while it’s dry, and then washed/shampooed later.
Second - PLEASE stop combing your hair!
Combs, boar bristle brushes, etc... They will fuck up your hair. You know how everyone with curly hair complains about frizz? The results are almost ALWAYS due to two major problems:
1) Your hair is too dry - you’re using too much shampoo, and not enough conditioner.
2) You’re brushing/combing your hair and completely pulling apart all curls.
Tumblr media
This is what your hair probably looked like at some point. This is what ALL of our hair probably looked like at some point.
Does this sound familiar?
Your mom hands you a brush. “Brush your hair!” she complains. You have brushed your hair. But the more you brush it.... the bigger it gets! It tangles even more, it catches everything in its radius like a small planet with its own gravitational force. You know what people look like after you rub a balloon on their head? That’s every day for you, with or without balloons.
Why does this happen?
Simple. By brushing out your hair, you are separating your curls from their natural groupings.
See, in straight hair, all hair just hangs out together in one big thing. But your curls all have curl-friends. They NEED their curl-friends to stay nice and not-poofy.
When you brush or comb, you are literally pulling apart well-formed intentional curls, and they all gain 300% volume and 500% disorganization.
Tumblr media
Here’s what curly hair looks like when it’s NOT brushed out:
Tumblr media
“But Chekhov?! What the heck am I supposed to do if I don’t brush it?! Won’t it get tangled?“
Not if you take care of it properly it won’t.
1) Get in the shower
2) Turn down the shower heat to lukewarm.
3) Wash your hair by shampooing ONLY the scalp (seriously, stop washing it too much. By washing it too often, your hair tries to overcompensate for the lack of oil and becomes EXTRA oily. It’s super hard to undo later. I’ll make another post about it.).
4) Use copious amounts of conditioner and use your fingers to untangle your hair while it’s got the conditioner in it. Go through and untangle everything. At this stage, you can comb it with a wide-tooth comb while in the shower.
5) Rinse (NOT WITH HOT WATER. LUKEWARM.)
6) Get out of the shower, dry yourself off and-- DON’T TOUCH THAT TOWEL. Get a cotton t-shirt. Lean forward and flip your head upside down. Dry your hair by squishing your hair upwards with the t-shirt.
Why can’t I use a towel?
Because your towel is like a brush and will pull apart your curls way more than a t-shirt will. Rubbing and fluffing will lead to the same frizziness.
7) Leave the dryer alone. Pile your hair on your head, wrap it in a t-shirt if you want, and leave it to dry overnight or during the day. (If you need it to be dry NOW, then I recommend a diffuser, or a dryer on the coldest setting you have.)
Notice - I did not include any fancy schmancy curl products here. You can benefit from them, but this routine change alone can carry you quite a ways.
I know some of these go against many people’s pre-conceived notions of how to take care of hair. But trust me when I say - taking care of straight hair is NOT the norm! It doesn’t have to be. You don’t have to listen to your straight haired relatives telling you how to take care of your hair. They don’t know squat.
A lot of people recommend not washing daily - I personally don’t, and most curly haired people also do not.
However!
For someone who has been washing their hair daily, the transition is difficult. If your hair knows it will be stripped of all its protective oils every night, it works its hardest to replenish them every day. That’s why for people who try to stop washing daily, what they often find is that their hair gets extremely oily. What that means is - you need to grin and bear it for a LONG time before your head chemistry is recalibrated. You have to basically give your scalp time to realize “wait, the dryness from the shampoo isn’t happening every day anymore? I can.... relax? And stop re-oiling myself so often?” That takes... sometimes a week. Sometimes up to a month. It depends on the person. I recommend easing up gradually and going from once a day to once-every-other-day or something, instead of quitting cold turkey.
Disclaimer: If you’re about to reblog and comment with how much this routine isn’t for you, then just don’t. This routine isn’t for everyone, but what I’m trying to communicate here is the BASICS. If your personal situation is different, that’s great, but it doesn’t disqualify how helpful this can be for someone who has never had anyone tell them how to take care of their hair type before.

The day after the grand Halloween event, the girls have gathered once again inside a typical practice room. With their comeback already planned, they should all be kept in check.
“I hope you all had a lot of fun yesterday,” Kim Geonwook, their dance coach, starts things off, “because from today on we’ll work on getting everything right, which shouldn’t be as fun.” He starts by staring at the newest member. “What we worked on the most was getting Joohyun to learn all the songs she needed to. She did her job, but the struggle now is to get you all in sync. This isn’t like changing a tire where you just it into a new one and the car starts to move. Each screw needs to be properly fixed and, right now, she isn’t the only problem. Because you aren’t used to her as well, you can’t anticipate her movements, which leads to people not matching each other.”
He claps his hands together once. “But, Joohyun, you’re a good dancer. At the start of this, we had to push each of the members to work on their dance to make this teamwork. Now, I believe you can all do well together. My diagnosis to you is a lot of hard work and maybe some bonding time.” And so their month starts. To help with bonding, the coach prepared some trust exercises such as trust falls, but since that’s not really his style, they quickly moved over to just practicing their moves. With that the coming months have prepared, the group needs to go through the same routines over and over again not to screw up on the most viewed live shows of the year.
Two weeks after her audition, Minji receives the news on November 10th right from her manager about how the producers got interested in her for the role. However, how this will be a big-scale project, things can’t be confirmed with one simple audition. Between all the people who tried for the part on the month before, five of them remain, including Minji. She’s told to return for a second round of auditions on November 24th. This time, more information was given on the project in hopes that it’ll inspire the candidates on doing the best job. The drama will follow a group of rich, privileged high school students as they are about to take over their families' business empires, overcoming difficulties and growing every step of the way. The role they’re auditioning for, however, is of Cha Eunsang, a down-to-earth and somewhat cynical woman who diligently works part-time jobs to support herself and her mother. When they arrive on the scheduled day, the five finals actresses looking for the role will receive a scene on the spot to study for in a set of minutes before performing it. They’ll also receive an impromptu prompt to act on-the-spot in a group scene. The final results will come out the following month.
Since Eclipse were invited to some end-of-the-year shows, that means that Joohyun will have to perform with them live for the first time. Before that can happen, the girls will be taken out to record a reveal video for their new member. They’ll go on November 11th to record the video outside. It’ll follow the essence of this video, but the content will be different. Following Joohyun’s reveal video for the KTROOKIES project, all five girls will be recorded on the busy streets of Seoul while the cars zoom past the streets. They’ll be moving as if they’re looking for something with their faces never being completely visible. That’s until another car crosses the screen and Joohyun is revealed standing on the other side. They’ll also be recording a video like this one next to the Han River. These will be uploaded later in the month. The girls will be using the outfits as seen in this image (without the skates).
Anna — Umji
Blue — Sowon
Haseul — Yerin
Jennie — Yuju
Joohyun — Eunha
Minji — Sinb
In order to avoid the harsh cold of December, the group will be recording the music video of their title song still in November. Their comeback will happen in early January. On November 12th, the girls will go out to their usual hair salon to make needed changes, or just to make sure their hair is in good condition.
Anna — Brown ( reference )
Blue — Red ( reference )
Haseul — Black ( reference )
Jennie — Black ( reference )
Joohyun — Brown ( reference )
Minji — Blonde ( reference )
Members who changed their hairstyles are told not to reveal them to the public.
On November 16th, the group will go out for their album photoshoot. This will consist of two different sets, one inspired by these images ( 1, 2, 3, 4 ) and another by these ( 1, 2, 3, 4 ). The day after, their music video recordings will start.

The first award in line is on November 30th, it’ll be the Melon Music Awards which will take place at the Gocheok Sky Dome. ‘Me Gustas Tu’ will be the only track they’ll perform. They’ll enter the stage while an intro audio plays before breaking into the song. For this event, they’ll all be wearing wigs to hide their new hair colors. This will be their first public group performance with Joohyun on the team.
December 4th is the date of the Mnet Asian Music Awards. This will be their first stage after their comeback. Their stage will be slightly based on this video and this video. This means that Eclipse’s stage will be highly linked to Convex’s, however, the two groups will not practice together until the day before the show for the final stage check. Since the event will take place in Japan, they’ll fly over there on the day before and return soon after the end of the event. Their roommates were separated as Anna&Haseul&Joohyun and Blue&Jennie&Minji. For the pairs, Minji will be Sinb; Anna will be Yerin; Blue will be Eunha. On the dance duet, Haseul will be Yuju. The stage will start with Haseul singing one of her lines from ‘Me Gustas Tu’ (2:20-2:25). Blue will do Eunha’s part from behind the stairs, also from ‘Me Gustas Tu’ (0:26-0:35), leading into the song’s performance. For the duo dance and onwards, the girls will put a robe on top of their previous outfits as seen here. Haseul will sing one of her lines from ‘Chase Me’ this time (1:02-1:07) before they head into this song’s performance.

- Begin -
Knock. Knock.
"Come in." I call out and wait for the door to open. It's Minhyuk's mother. "Oh, Ahjumma. What brings you here?"
"I've come to send you home. You've been holed up in here for the last hours."
I look around my classroom table, seeing all the papers scattered around. "Yeah, I haven't been able to come up with good ideas."
"________, you still have a lot of time."
"You know I don't like to push things for time." I stand up from my chair and give her a quick hug. "Are you getting off work?"
"Yes, I just came to make sure that you are going to show up tomorrow." She takes my arm and leads me out the door away from my sketches.
"I promised I'd come, although I don't know why, I don't even work in that department."
"Just take it as a free dinner, ________."
I laugh. "I'm not going to say no to free dinner. Where are you taking me?"
"You are going to get off work now. Your dark circles have gotten deeper. I can't have that happen to my beautiful daughter-in-law."
I snicker at her exaggeration. I had seen myself and there were no dark circles. "Ahjumma, I need my handbag before I can leave."
Flustered, but not showing it she turns me around and together we walk back to my room. "Have you been composing again?" She asks me looking at the grand piano and moves to close the lid for me.
"Not really composing just practicing."
Having gotten my bag, I also gather the sketches scattered around, putting them in a pile on my desk and make my way over to Minhyuk's mother who was waiting for me at the door.
Locking my little classroom which has become more like an office, I turn to her. "Ahjumma, you should go home now."
"I am. I'm not as crazy as you to work overtime." After all these years she still hasn't changed and I know it was driving Minhyuk crazy.
"I'll see you tomorrow then." While her car was parked up front because she was the director, mine was parked in the underground garage. Thank god for designated parking places for employees, or I would have to fight for them early in the morning here, too.
On my way to the car, I check my phone which I put on silent during working hours and give a call to Lee.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's me." I press the elevator button. "Are you still at the salon?"
"Yeah, but I'm leaving soon. Want to have a drink?" That's the first thing she always asks me when it's Friday night.
"Yeah, I'll meet you there." I step into the elevator. "The line might disconnect I'm inside the elevator now."
"Alright, see you there."
~ ~ ~
"________-ah, over here!" As soon I enter the little place we go to a lot, I hear Lee calling for me. Have her eyes been glued to the door all this time?
Sitting down next to her I give her a hug. "You look tired."
"Do I really?" I look at her face. "You do, too."
"I never thought we'd turn into workaholics." Getting the soda bottle I pour her a shot. Yes, with drinking we mean this because Lee and I are terrible drinkers, so soda it is. Even the owner already knows us well enough.
"What have you been up to so late at the salon."
She puts some meat in her mouth, chewing with no restraint. "A lot of people have been coming to get their hair done. Probably because a lot of idol groups are having their comeback."
"Or maybe it's because you're amazing, Lee." I touch my own hair. "I love my hair color by the way."
"I told you it was going to look great, should have trusted me from the beginning." When I had come into her salon for lunch one day, instead of having lunch she had sat me down and spent the entire day just coloring my hair.
"I'll do so from now on. Just don't go blonde." I worry my hair will fall out.
"Blonde doesn't look good on you." She explains bluntly. "Your hair is too thin for that. I'll end up destroying your hair. But don't worry.''
"Thanks?" I have some food myself. "What has Joon been up to? He's been away from social life for a while."
"He?" She rolls her eyes. "He's just like us, holed up in his work place working on choreography."
"Ya, the three of us really have changed in terms of work ethic. I never thought he'd be like this."
"Yeah, I guess once adulthood hits, things change. How is the house selling going by the way?"
"I'm not sure, I should probably call Minhyuk. He's dealing with it while I'm gone." Minhyuk also has been very busy over in Japan, he rarely responds right after I send him a message.
"You two should just date, he loves you." I snicker thinking of how Minhyuk's mother had called me daughter-in-law today. I tell Lee. "See? Everyone is rooting for you two. That boy has liked you since his birth."
"I don't think that's a good idea." I smile at the thought how he had changed ever since he found out I had moved to Japan years ago. "I'm very good by myself."
"Talking about that, how is your brother? Have you visited him recently?"
"Yeah, I visited him last weekend." I was glad to see that he was adjusting well. "He's worried as always."
"He has good reason to. You need a man in your life."
"I have."
She gives me a hopeful look but when I grin she rolls her eyes. "Bobo doesn't count. He's a dog, I'm talking about a human being."
"I don't need a human being in my life." And I was being honest. "I'm too busy for that."
Lee sighs. "Will you ever get married?"
I wiggle my eyes does at her. "Apropos marriage."
"Don't." She holds her hand out, palm up.
I laugh at her expression. "Why? You've been dating for how many years? Joon should be going down on his knee."
"________, I'm too young for that." Like the drama queen that she is, she flips her hair away from her shoulder, or as much as she could since she has a bob. "I'm not getting tied down any time soon."
"That sounds like something Minhyuk would say."
Now, it's her time to wiggle her eyebrows. "I'm sure he wouldn't mind getting tied down by you."
I grimace and push her shoulder gently. "Ya, he's like a little brother, will you stop."
"Ouch, don't let him hear that." Much drama again.
"That's the thing though, he's heard it many times before."
"Well, if it isn't him then do you even find men attractive anymore." I burst out laughing at her encouraging expression. "I could set you up on a blind date."
"No, please, don't." I take her hand, her bad one, and squeeze it gently. "Don't worry, time is still on my side, and hey, who knows maybe I'll fall in love even before this year is over."
"Let's hope so because I really don't like seeing you living alone with only Bobo."
"Bobo is great and protective."
Skeptic, she peers at me with an eyebrow raised. "Bobo would kiss a burglar. At least you live in a good apartment complex."
"Yeah, I'm really thankful for Jieun-Eonni for arranging everything." It's been months since I've returned and I still haven't properly thanked my brother's girlfriend. "I should treat her to a meal. But she's always so busy."
"Working at a music show is really time consuming." I watch her thinking about something for a moment. "I'm going to be at a lot of music shows, too."
"Is someone from the company having a comeback?"
"Yeah, but I can't say who." She pretends to zip her lips.
I smile. "Don't forgot to eat then, Joon will murder anyone who is the cause of you losing weight."
"Now, we just need to find you someone who will do that for you."
I roll my eyes at her smirk. "Isn't there anything else we can talk about?"
"No, you're so boring working at the theater." She bursts out laughing at my offended expression. "Just kidding."
I laugh with her. It was always great to catch up with her.
— — — — —
"Very good job, kids." I clap as we finish up the vocal lesson. Hearing my praise, the kids smile and turn to talk amongst each other. Even though they were no older than kindergarten age, they help me move the chairs back to one wall.
Ending the class, I wave goodbye to them until everyone has left the classroom and soon after I head to lunch myself but that's when I see one of my students sitting on the visitor bench right next to the door by herself.
"Sohyun-ah, what are you still doing here?" Class had ended half an hour ago. "Where is your mother?"
"I don't know." She was pouting sadly. "Eomma, isn't here."
Frowning because this hadn't been the first time for her mother to be late, I sit down next to her. "Are you hungry?"
Sohyun looks up at me with her big eyes. "Will you please wait with me?"
"Yes, of course. You should have just come back in. Next time, don't wait alone OK?" I stand up after she gives me a small nod and hold my hand out for her. "While waiting, let's get you some food."
Placing her smaller hand into mine, she nods and jumps down the bench, more energetic now. Because I was wearing heels today, her arms were straining to reach me.
I bend down and carry her up onto my hip. "Let's go." Walking over to the elevator, I reach out to press the button, when she does too. Smiling, remembering how I used to love pushing any buttons I bend my knee so she can reach it herself.
"Can I call you Eonni when we are not in class?"
"Sure." I give her a warm smile. "I don't like being called teacher anyway. It makes me sound so old." Finally I hear her giggle, the sound so sweet to the ears.
The elevator doors open and it seems like everyone is on their way somewhere because it's almost full. Pulling Sohyun closer so she doesn't end up kicking anyone, I step in and turn around.
"Why are there so many people here?" She sounds scared so I rub her back comfortingly.
"We'll be out in a bit, Sohyun-ah."
And true to my words the elevator opens to the floor where the canteen is revealing someone familiar. "________-ah." Minhyuk who should be in Japan was standing right in front of me.
I step out and give him a look. It didn't go by me how he had called me by my name only.
"What are you doing up here?"
"We're having lunch, Sohyunie and I."
Minhyuk makes a thinking sound not really listening to my words, he was rather focused on the 5-year-old in my arm.
I look at Sohyun whose arm was firmly around my neck. "That's one of my students, we're waiting for her mother to arrive. We are having some delicious lunch, right?"
I nudge her side, making her giggle. "Eonni is the best."
Minhyuk holds out his hand. "Let's go then, I'm hungry, too. I'm Minhyuk by the way, you can call me Oppa if you want."
"Ahjussi, I don't just call anyone Oppa." I stifle the laugh from coming out. Ouch, Ahjussi, that's got to hurt his ego.
I start walkingm ignoring Minhyuk's bewildered expression. My priority was to get some food into this little heart breaker.
~ ~ ~
After lunch, I had asked Minhyuk about his stay here and he had told me that he will be returning to Japan in a week. The magazine he works for is doing a spread on idols in musicals, hence the reason why he's here.
"You don't have to show me. I work here, I've seen it."
"You don't have anything to do anyway." He had insisted on showing us the auditorium which is where the interview will be held.
I shift Sohyun in my arms. She had refused to be carried by him. It had made him sulk. He opens the door to the stage and I step in seeing a bunch of photographers setting up their equipment in the seating area. I could spot Minhyuk's mother at once, she just emits that intense authoritative aura.
Carefully, I walk down the steps on the side of the stage and walk over to her, her eyes brightening when she sees her son with me together. "Look at you two." Oh, no. I just now realized how we must look to her with Sohyun in my arms. Oh, no.
"You didn't tell me yesterday about Minhyuk being in Korea." I begin defensively.
"It was supposed to be a surprise later tonight." Someone calls for her so she excuses herself.
"So?"
I glance at Minhyuk after checking to see that Sohyun had fallen asleep on my shoulder. "What?"
"Was it a good surprise?"
"Nope." I always feel bad for being so blunt but I've seen the hope in his eyes whenever I'm not.
"You're so mean, ________."
I frown at him. "I'm still older than you."
"Oh, you noticed?"
"Of course, I did. I just didn't want to say anything in front of Sohyunie." She was sliding down my hip, so I move her up a bit. "How is the apartment by the way.''
"Oh, that. Someone is interested." He takes his phone out and seconds later I feel my phone vibrating in my pocket. "I just send you the information."
"Thanks, I'll have to find some time to fly over and wrap things up." I look around at all the people. "What is everyone waiting for?"
"I think the artists have to come in first."
I spot someone I know and wave at them. I had worked a short amount of time at the same magazine. "Your whole team is here? What for?"
"We have a shoot in a few days, that's why."
The door I came in through opens and surprisingly I recognize some of the artists as idols. Just then my phone vibrates. It's the pocket that Sohyun is leaning against. Minhyuk seeing me struggle, slips his hand into my pocket and hands me my phone.
"Thank you." I take the call. "Hello?" Listening intently, I realize that it's Sohyun's mother and signal to Minhyuk that I'll be leaving first. "Yes, I'm on my way."
Walking back up the stairs, I try to balance having a child in one arm with not dropping the phone between my shoulder and my ear but as I feel it sliding, I quickly grab it. Having no free hand to open the door with, I turn to push back against it with my back and almost drop my phone when my eyes come in contact with someone familiar again.
It's been years but I could still recognize him like it was just yesterday when I last saw him. He hasn't changed much. His visuals are still as boyish and youthful. His aura still as striking. He just looks more mature now.
The realization that Sohyun's mother was still talking on the phone brings me back to the here and now. I lower my eyes and bow my head politely, pushing out through the door and away from those memorable eyes.
Only after I have walked away do I realize that my heart has been beating faster than normal, the pounding heavy in my ears. It's unnerving how even after all this time, just seeing him again could cause any reaction from me.

14 Inspiring SMB Instagram Accounts to Follow Right Now
With the onset of the pandemic, small businesses have been severely impacted across the globe. Shelter-in-place policies have put many at risk of permanently closing their doors, if they haven’t already done so. In Facebook’s most recent Global State of Small Business Report, about 25% of the 30,000 small businesses surveyed said they had shut down between January and May of this year, and about two-thirds of businesses still open have reported that sales are significantly down in comparison to last year.
Morale is low, so I've decided to put together a list of inspiring small business Instagram accounts from an array of verticals for you to view, follow, and gather ideas from for your own posts. I will:
Share real examples of posts from small businesses in finance, health, restaurants, the arts, and more.
Extract key takeaways for effective Instagram marketing.
Provide tips on how to incorporate safety and positivity into your own marketing messaging.
See what captivates you about these particular accounts, and even if they aren’t in your industry, see if there are ways you can apply similar concepts when it comes to content and creative for your own business.
Why Instagram for SMB inspiration?
Businesses that are still operating are being forced to re-strategize, pivot offerings, explore new channels, take more creative risks, and share different types of engaging content in order to stay afloat. Due to its versatility and array of features, Instagram is one such platform to facilitate these shifts, and can be used to:
Keep your customers and fans informed amidst the rollercoaster of a year it has been.
Drive more business through organic and paid advertising efforts.
Promote your business within your community.
Small business Instagram accounts to follow for inspiration
The above goals (and more) can be accomplished through regular posts, Instagram Stories, longer-form IGTV videos, and Instagram Live events. Let's take a look at various IG content that has proven successful for small businesses and inspirational for customers and fellow business owners alike.
1. BlackRock (finance)
I can’t say I’ve seen any Instagram account, let alone in finance, have such well-crafted, diverse, and engaging content like BlackRock. They truly embody their company culture through their content and if I were to put myself in the shoes of a job applicant or a customer, I would be in support of what this brand is accomplishing by genuinely portraying itself as a trusted, employee- and community-driven, diverse, and accomplished business. Their quality posts showcase employee stories, events they partake in and ways that give back to others. It’s an inspiring account to say the least. Check out the engagement on each post. It speaks for itself.
2. Kristin Damstetter (wellness)
When it comes to our mental well-being, mindfulness, and meditation, our client Kristin Damstetter’s Instagram feed is a delight to frequent. As we can see below, it’s calming, on-brand, and seamlessly complements her website. She also does an excellent job of saving her Instagram Stories in their respective categories so that new users and existing followers can refer to her Stories on meditation, journaling, and more. She has a great story to share with others as she is a former art teacher and intertwines her mindfulness practice with those in education.
3. WORK (fitness)
Among some of the hardest pandemic-hit businesses are gyms and fitness centers. While they are making a comeback by using COVID-safe measures, it’s inspiring to see what some are doing to keep their business going, and what better way to see than to watch videos of the action. WORK in Orange County does a fantastic job of sharing video content on their Instagram account, which will help get you pumped up to work out and then hopefully to sign up for video workouts online.
4. Tradesman (coffee)
As an avid coffee consumer, this next inspiring Instagram account—Tradesman in Boston—immediately caught my attention. They are a terrific example of exceptional photography and strategic curation. Just take a peek at their aesthetically-pleasing feed and delectable-looking, unique menu of treats. They do a really great job strategically placing various photos to entice users to view more of their feed as it varies from larger multi-photo posts to individual ones. My Boston friend Casie Gillette says that she saw the account and the photos of their pastries (and red velvet croissants) made her go out of my way to find them. Hint: it was worth it. See for yourself:
5. Dark Horse Coffee Roasters
It was challenging to select just one example here, so in addition, I have to also give a Dark Horse Coffee Roasters a mention in San Diego as they have excellent coffee and their customer service, even on Instagram, is matched. They update their account with real-time information, which is crucial during this challenging year for service businesses.
6. Rabecca Onassis Boutique
Rabecca Onassis Boutique in Seattle curates a beautiful feed that is not only visually appealing but also successful in driving business. My friend Hannah Glazko, a frequent shopper, raves about this boutique. The combination of both static images and videos where new arrivals are tried on, styled, and shared by a variety of people, is beautiful. It’s a fun, colorful, and relatable account given the diverse yet on-brand approach they take. If your product can be seen by a variety of people and feel relatable, it will drive more business and expand your on and offline reach.
7. El Arroyo (restaurant)
For restaurant marketing during COVID-19, showcase your best-looking dishes and drinks. Share videos of your space, your smiling staff, the ambiance, the feel, take out options if those have changed, and be sure to include mention of the COVID-safe measures you are taking to make people feel comfortable in visiting your establishment.
While many of us enjoy seeing drool-worthy dishes in our feed and become patrons, you don’t always have to share food photos to find success on Instagram and beyond. Chances are, you have seen a photo of an El Arroyo sign at some point while browsing the web. Their signs have gained them so much popularity that this popular Mexican restaurant in Austin has found a way to drive engagement, followers, and business by entertaining people with their sign, near and far.
8. Squee Club (restaurant)
Another effective strategy to implement on your Instagram account is to post your COVID-19 protocols at your dining establishment. Share Stories with easy-to-explain, step-by-step details, and save it to your profile, so it is quick to locate and simple to understand for your potential customers, as seen here on Squee Club’s account:
9. Future’s Past (the arts)
If you are in the photography, film, music, or arts business, Future’s Past Instagram account is impressive in terms of creative content curation, and they do some really great stuff such as highlighting local acts with their Unfiltered Fridays posts on their Feed and IGTV.
10. Fox and Plume (photography)
With many events postponed or cancelled this year, photographers were put in quite a predicament as well. On the upside, many are still in business and thriving, using bigger lenses and being able to still do socially-distanced shoots. If you have a particular style, showcase it in your feed as seen here, with Fox and Plume. She shoots a variety of people across all life events, you can tell by her style that glows through her feed.
11. Stacie Larsen (photography)
Utah photographer, Stacie Larsen, follows a visually appealing pattern of posting in sets of three through the week on her feed. Patterns make things memorable for people, especially in groups of three.
12. Ruby and Revolver (jewelry)
There are small business owners, and then there are small business owners who are one-person shops, using their craft to make unique pieces. Carefully crafted, visual content for these types of business owners is crucial as it helps sell their pieces. The better the photography, the greater the desire for people to engage, share, and purchase their work, as seen here by the stunning and unique jewelry made by Ruby and Revolver. She sells out of all inventory each time she creates a product and posts about it on Instagram. Put your best foot forward when it comes to the images, videos, and accompanying text you post. In addition, if you have limited inventory, take into account what is popular based on engagement and sales and bring it back to drive more sales.
  13. 1502 Candle Co.
Another creative and inspiring Instagram account is from 1502 Candle Co as she does tutorials on where you can learn a variety of things, such as how to clean a candle container properly instead of destroying your nails attempting to remove the wax. Create tutorials using Stories and IGTV and save your Stories to your profile so people can later reference them when the timing is better suited. They will remember you and possibly become a customer because you provided something helpful to them and didn’t necessarily push a product on them.
14. Cute Nail Studio
When it comes to hair salons, nail parlors, barbershops, lash extension places, and other beauty-related businesses, there are plenty of ways you can use this visual platform to showcase beauty as it relates to your services. Cute Nail Studio is a profile worth visiting as they have a vibrant Feed and helpful, business-driven saved Stories. Another great thing to take note of here is that they have reviews, which can help with bringing in new prospective clients and customers to their location in case they are on the fence about the services they provide and want a real customer’s take.
What we can learn from these SMB Instagram accounts
We can certainly learn quite a bit from what other brands and small businesses are doing and use it as inspiration for our own accounts. Let’s recap what the accounts in this post have taught us:
Showcase employee stories, events you partake in and ways you give back to others.
Save your Stories to their respective categories so followers can quickly reference them.
Strategically place photos to entice users to view more of your feed.
Display your product in relatable ways to drive more business and expand your reach.
You don’t always have to share photos of your product. Share videos of your space, your smiling staff, the ambiance, the feel, and more.
Share your COVID-19 protocols with easy-to-explain details to make people feel comfortable visiting your establishment.
Use patterns to make things memorable for people, especially in groups of three.
Share customer reviews to help bring in new clients and customers.
Get inspired and implement
This is the time to be creative in your efforts to stand out, keep your followers and customers informed about the state of your business, and to continue not only surviving, but thriving, as we move forward. Use these examples and others you see in your Instagram Feed, Stories, and IGTV to leverage the platform to benefit your business and attract customers in an authentic way.

5 tips for Luscious Lashes
New Post has been published on https://www.salondeauville.com/5-tips-for-luscious-lashes/
5 tips for Luscious Lashes
During this sticky, humid time of year the last thing we want are globs of makeup. But long, luscious lashes those are a year-round necessity. Follow these five rules to get perfect eyelashes without having to revert to time-consuming falsies or expensive extensions.
1) Eyelash curlers are essential.
Eyelash curlers as the key to giving lashes that “wow” factor. “Be sure to choose one that creates a beautiful upward curl, such as the one that Deauville salon offers you. With a delicate pumping motion, move from the lash base upward for maximum results.” And always curl before applying mascara, not after. When bare, “The eyelashes are suppler so the crimping of the lash doesn’t feel as damaging,” Also when you curl your lashes, work your way from the roots outwards: give a good squeeze closer to the eyelid, a couple in the middle and a last one near the tip of your lashes. This will give your lashes a more natural curl. Another curling tip includes Warming up your eyelash curler before using it will make your eyelashes curl better. Getting lash extensions is a great way to make lashes look fuller and longer! Getting them professionally done is costly, but extremely worth it. Most lash extension parlors such as Deauville Salon, have consultations before your appointment to figure out how long, curled, and full you want your lashes to be, so you’ll come out with lashes you’ll fall in love with.
2) Don’t layer different mascaras.
https://www.salondeauville.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Don_t_layer_different_mascaras-1.jpg
I wouldn’t recommend this, as some formulas will not mix well and end up clumping, however, some mixing and matching does work. If there’s a wand you prefer over another, clean it off and use with your favorite formula or as a lash comb. To make eyes look more open and awake, apply mascara only to the top lashes. Is mascara on the lower lashes too much for you? Then apply a coat of clear mascara on them instead. It will give them definition without looking over-the-top or too dramatic. More so, you can try colored mascaras, although available in lots of fun shades, blue and purple mascaras are my favorites. The former brightens the eyes, while the latter enhances green eyes.  If mascara is not your friend and you’d rather make your eyelashes grow naturally, try to rub some coconut oil on them.
3) Let tabs contained between layers of mascara.
https://www.salondeauville.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Let_tabs_contained_between_layers_of_mascara-600×600.jpg
Mascara is an obvious staple for having longer lashes! But, you have to make an investment in a quality, long-lasting mascara in order for your lashes to have length without looking clumpy. Also, look for mascaras that focus on length over fullness. Practice a little patience between each layer. Give a little time in the air between each layer will allow the mascara to set up and build on each layer instead of grouping as a large group. One of our favorite new masks is not binding False Lash, the formula adds volume, while combs and wand separates.  For an extra full lash look, dip your brush in some baby powder and apply to your lashes in between two coats.
4) Long lashes.
https://www.salondeauville.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Long_lashes-1-600×600.jpg
One thing every girl wants are long, beautiful lashes. Long lashes can make a huge difference and make your eyes pop perfectly! If your lashes are short, you know it can be a struggle. Longer, darker lashes make the eyes seem larger in proportion to the ears and nose, which grow throughout the lifespan, making women appear younger. Making the eyelashes stand out, it also makes the whites of the eyes look brighter. This is generally a signal that a person is healthy. Long eyelashes make the eyes look wide, thus making facial dimensions more similar to a baby’s. Long eyelashes can elicit trusting first impressions from strangers.  Another thing that I do to make my lashes look bigger is line my upper waterline. It darkens the base of the lashes and makes them appear thicker!
5) Daily treatment.  Condition and treatment of daily tabs.
https://www.salondeauville.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Daily_treatment-1.png
Another mascara tip is to learn how to apply it properly. First, you want to wipe off the excess mascara on your applicator as you pull it out of the tube, then apply from root to tip while rotating and wiggling your applicator. Apply two coats, and you’re good to go. Like the hair, eyelashes need some attention. Conditioners tapes function as a primer, creating a smooth surface for mascara. Lattice growth treatments as stimulate the growth cycle of eyelashes, so it is longer, so the tabs come in longer, darker and thicker. . Buy an eyelash curler. Curling lashes before applying mascara opens up your eyes and really does make a difference. You can find a good eyelash curler from Deauville salon.
