ABOUT PUBIC HAIR/PERSONAL GROOMING
QUINN ;
she's hairy
well, not Hairy
decent amount of fuzz on her legs/arms. has a tiny shadow above her lips that she cannot see for the life of her
a proud bush haver though. 💪
she doesn’t really shave/trim
had a full body shave once and was uncomfortable in her skin for a whiiile
loves her fuzz and you will catch her rubbing her legs together because of it
she trims her public when it starts bothering her, doesn't really think about it much if at all
will get bored and trim fun shapes
a content bush enthusiast
honestly forgets that people are weird about underarm hair and is throughly confused when she gets weird looks cause her arms are up in her sleeveless tops
fuzzy stomach too 🙂‍↕️ and a small trail but it stars right above her navel and joins her bush
HAIR ;
she doesn't take care of her hair (head) often. let's Itani take care of that
She could put he's given her a bad habit and she intends on letting him keep it
Loves letting him put in braids with clips and baubles
When she retires, it's a constant
Detests whenever there's surprise missions, and she has to hastily undo her hair because using noises in fights isn't her speciality
Loves having her hair out in an afro just as much though
Just wished she could maintain it better because her hair dries out easily
ITANI ;
he's not as hairy as his sister but he's got some
naturally doesn't grow that much body hair but he doesn't let it grow enough to actually know
actually tries not to think about it cause his burns make him feel patchy
and he's long given up on the thought of facial hair because of it (quinn teases him about having a mustache when he doesn't)
Trims, not that he has much hair to begin with
just a lil sprinkle sprinkle of hair here n there
H A T E S his underarm hair cause he sweats a lot & and it sticks to him and— he'd rant all day about it if he could
I lied. from the knee down he's got some hair
he's grown more into it over the years, but before he'd shave it often
surprisingly has a happy trail and he loves to go shirtless because of it.
he takes wonderful care of it. its his pride and joy
when he's retired and can actually just sit and reconnect with himself— he stops shaving as much
HAIR ;
Itani has such a loving relationship with his hair.
He's never been upset over how long it takes or when it goes wrong
his hair has been with him through it all and he intends to show it that gratitude
He doesn't like going out with his hair unfinished if he started it
Be it he was oiling his scalp or moisturising it or mid way through a hairstyle- he hates having to cut it halfway
It feels like he's disrespecting his hair by not having made enough time to care for it
loves wash days. doubles it as an everything shower day too (he is that guy )
I have and will continue to jump between him having locs or his hair open
I think when he's active in the field he has it open. the time it takes to do his hair on the occasion or combing through it is relaxing for him through the adrenaline and everything
So when he's retired/not as active he probably makes to choice to give himself either mirco or sister locs
SAGE ;
Not hairy but he's got some good fuzz on him
Doesn't really maintain his hair often
His hair grows slowly, which is why he can go so long without a haircut
He trims every once in a while, but aside from that 🤷🏽‍♀️
sure, sometimes he gets a little adventurous and decides to maybe shave his ass or someone's but it's never truly a routine for him
(though he did like the good weeks he had of a smooth rump)
His tattoos are already hairless skin and he thinks it counts
Hairy stomach though, has a habit of rubbing it idly
That's why he usually has a tucked top so he doesn't do it in public
If he cared enough to go through with it— he'd most def get his partner's initials shaved out on his mound. he thinks it's cute and the reaction would be funny
he'd cringe about having to shave it all off so it grows equally though
HAIR ;
to put it simply. itani hates him.
that guy that uses 3 in 1 and washes his hair with cheap shampoo bars vibes
his hair care is simple, and it helps that his is short
his pa taught him right and does make natural shampoo/conditioner bars and oils n things so he knows what he's doing
but it pisses off Itani so he refuses to tell him
"you're hair smells nice. what'd you use?"
"I just sprayed perfume in it"
"I hate you. never talk to me again"
But his shower shelf is decked out cause his pa refuses to have his kids hair nothing but soft since it's always open unless he decides to plait that rat tail- mullet he has going on
NOTES;
both Itani and Sage are tenderheaded. which contradicts the hair pulling turn on they got.
Sage actually smells like Sage. and cinnamon.
Itani smells woodsy but sweet.
Quinn...just smells like Quinn..

“ah i have to go let me take you home. where do you live?”
and you tell him your address even tho he already had it memorized by heart

after that peter’s finally on his way home when tony pipes up
“was that the girl you always talk about”
“m-mr. stark??? you saw that??”
“all of it. she’s badass i want her on our team.”

remember when my hand slipped and i accidentally a bunch of hollow knight gijinkas? the hand... did not stop from keep slipping, suffice to say lol. i think i’m done now though.
part one (ghost, hornet, the dreamers, and quirrel) can be found here. notes on these folks will be under a readmore!
please read my faq page! (tl;dr version: dont use my art for icons/graphics/whatever without getting my permission beforehand, please use neutral pronouns for hollow and any other vessels in any tags/commentary, dont tag as kin/me/whatever pls)
HOLLOW - as i mentioned under ghost’s gijinka description, i think proximity to void & pale being energy is what causes vessel growth. when tpk figured this out he, like, supercharged hollow with both so that they’d be fully grown as quickly as possible. this is how they wound up 6′7″ at all of 12, which just gave them fragile joints and height dysphoria as severe as ghost’s. they went into the black egg with the same bob haircut and it grew out badly while they were in there. they’re not totally blind in their right eye, but their vision in it’s pretty bad and they’ve lost some red/green definition too. their prosthetic arm works through soul so they can take it off whenever they want, which is good, because it’s not very comfortable.
GRIMM (and grimmchild) - from what i’ve seen most grimm gijinkas lean into the circus master/dracula side, so i went for the clown/catboy angle instead lol. yes that’s greasepaint. i was going for “almost sexy, but unfortunately still a weird clown” but am informed by friends that i overshot and he wound up hot anyway. as for grimmchild, i really just wanted them to be a kid in a kigurumi for each in-game charm level lol. they start out looking 3 but grow a year with each ritual stage completed, so lv4 grimmchild is 6. whether grimm is cis or trans/perisex or intersex depends on what the previous grimmchild was, so he’s used to his anatomy changing with each reincarnation. he never dresses any differently either.
WHITE LADY - your weird alien mom who’s the face of Horny On Main... this is her precanon outfit, her midcanon one is gray and more covering lol. aside from the crown there’s just a lot of white palace foliage in her hair in general. her hair should always be drawn trailing off the edges of the canvas, like ultimate madoka.
RADIANCE - before anyone asks, tpk is obviously what happened to her legs. her prostheses are even more Cool But Uncomfortable than hollow’s (she literally has to float, you cannot walk on those toothpick feet) so her chair is very necessary for when she gets tired. yes the dreamshields on the big wheels actually function magically; its cushions are the same sort of cushion in seer’s room. her clothing patterns come from dream realm spirographs, from the normal and absolute versions of her canon halo, and the architecture found at the crater’s crown. also her hair just Does That naturally. her tears being the same color as her eyes/the infection is a little on the nose but it bears emphasis, so lmao
LACE - i wasn’t gonna do any silksong characters but... She... i poured as much Adorable Bastard Energy into her design as i could!!! i was really torn whether to adapt her canon design’s hat into a pink diamond hair type white afro or just a hat over cornrows or s/t. i went with Fluffy, but if we ever see lace without her hat in canon i guess i’ll retroactively make her fro into a wig so i can have both worlds
SEER - everyone knows i cannot turn down the option to give a character sky-patterned clothing, so seer’s cloak is the sky of the moths’ dream. the gold spirographs on her arms and face are religious body paint that only dream masters/dream nail teachers are allowed to wear; the wisteria pattern on her face (obv taken from the charms in her room/in the dream realm) is scarification.
MARMU - did you know that on real puss moth caterpillars the brown thing in the middle of their faces is their actual face, and what looks like a face and mouth around it is just camouflage to scare predators away? so obviously i had to put marmu in a big cloak that looks like her canon design as a recursive joke. she’s a lighter brown than the other moth characters because i have way more marmu sadstuck headcanons than anyone ever wanted, including me.
UNN - just wants to go back to sleep. she’s the tallest of the higher beings, probably pushing 8 feet. aside from her size her canon design is pretty unassuming so i just gave her Clothes Comfortable To Sleep In. the clasp on her cardigan is the shape of unn charm ofc.
BRETTA - i have found the new home of 90s antenna ahoge. it is a design choice made for bug gijinkas.
CLOTH - i could only picture her as a more subdued, brown-eyed/slightly lighter-skinned gideon nav. my apologies to taz.
MYLA - lost that front tooth in her line of work. mining is very dangerous. her hairstyle and freckles are just because i think both are cute lol

Can I just request Hacker and Aria 🥺 it doesn't matter what point they're in, in their friendship/relationship .. nor the scenario 🥺
The Hacker x Aria- Sensitive Grounds
Tumblr media
Ahhhh yes! I love to ship these two! 😍
Aria belongs to @slassher-addict
The Hacker/Erron belongs to me
His life was sometimes oh so complicated, that was how the Hacker accepted that it would be, but looking over his shoulder at the black sleeping beauty, he sometimes wondered if he felt more like a baby-sitter than a very good friend.
Normally, if a beautiful girl was drunk he would make the most out of it, but Aria wasn't just a normal dumb bimbo or a cheap hooker. She turned out to be his best friend and not only because she shared similar bloody hoobies like his.
She was smart, funny, feisty even and oh so gorgeous. He internally groaned and told himself that things wouldn't go further than some funny flirting here and there. She wasn't the type and he sure as hell wasn't her type.
The lack of sleep was another problem, he hadn't slept in almost two days and the bright screen of his computers were starting to make his eyes behind the mask ichy.
A groan resounded from behind him and he looked at Aria, waking up in his bed at the other side of the room.
"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty." he said as he turned his chair around.
Her dark eyes opened and she looked at him, then down at her, making sure she was still dressed and nothing was suspicious.
"Did we...?" she asked, just to make sure.
The Hacker rolled his eyes behind the mask and got up from the chair and into the kitchen.
"Jeez, doll. No...... You passed put after a douchebag put something into your drink." he replied, then came back with a glass of water for her.
He could tell she was surprised, usually she was so vigilent and always on her toes. Well, not always.
"Anyway. I ordered some breakfast. It should be delivered in just a few minutes." Erron alias the Hacker told her with crossed arms over his chest.
She rolled her eyes and took a sip of the water.
"Well aren't you prince charming?" she asked with a smile and Erron didn't said anything, just left to go into the kitchen.
The dark skinned girl stretched her arms above her head and decided to leave the warm bed to start the new day. It was the weekend after all.
When she entered the kitchen she noticed his hoodie on one of the chairs, leaving Erron in a black t-shirt. It was rare that he showed skin and it was probably just the second time she saw him like that, tattoos littering his forearms and biceps.
"You know you should take your hoodie off more. Your tattoos are beautiful." Aria said as she took a seat, observing him.
"I know, doll." he smugly said and she just rolled her eyes at his arrogant self.
He sometimes could be such a jerk, always with his all high and mighty brain, suave and perssuasive self, but he showed also a caring side towards her. She knew how much of a womanizer he was, flirting here and there, hooking up with desperate girls, going to brothels.
Still, with her all he did was just innocent flirting and never crossed lines. Maybe she wasn't his type? Not attractive enough? Not sexy enough? Was she ugly?
"I am ugly?" she finally asked and he stopped as he poured himself and her two cups of Coffee.
"What are you talking about?" Erron asked, turning around and she could tell by how tense his muscels were that he was frowning behind the mask. His body language spoke alot of his emotions.
"Do you think... Maybe... I am beautiful?" Aria asked, looking intently at him.
"Of course you are. You are gorgeous. Where this sudden lack of self esstem came?" Erron asked, curious about what has gotten into her. She was usually so confident in herself, walking with her head up and all proud.
She couldn’t possibly tell him that she had a problem with him not making steps towards her, after all she made it clear how things with her in a relationship were and he kept it to himself, respecting her boundaries.
"No reason." she murmured and he sighed, handing her the warm cup of coffee.
"Make yourself at home. I have work to do." he simply told her and exited the kitchen.
Her eyes lingered on his back and to his spikey brown hair, broad shoulders. She had to admit he was attractive, even though she hadn't seen his face yet, his personality was attractive, somehow. It was something about the Hacker that you love and hate at the same time and that's what Aria felt.
She sipped on her coffee and remembers the times she was here and brought girls for a good time. Yes, jealousy was a word for what she felt back then, but she told herself she shouldn't. They weren't together.
The Hacker sat down on his chair again and groaned. How could she ask him such a thing? If she was ugly? She was absolutly stunning, so much that he wanted to have her bend over and-... No! They were very good friends and she wasn't the type of girl to do so.
Later that day Aria went to the library to get some books and also meet with a friend who enjoyed reading as much as her. He was a middle aged gentleman who was so afraid to speak with girls he found in Aria a nice fresh of air. They had some lunch and spoke of hystory, it was a good time, but it looked like time sure flys fast and it started to get dark.
"It was an upmost pleasure for your time! Maybe next time we can discuss about this new mystery novel that is going to come out next month." the man told Aria and she nodded grinning, then they waved goodbye.
Aria now was on her way to Errons penthouse. She was staying there until the renovations of her own home. She was Glad she could count on him at anytime of the day or night. She finally got into the elevator and waited for it to get her onto the last floor. Exiting, she stepped down the hallways to Errons penthouse. She was close to the door and saw it open, a woman exiting it, her red hair straight and pink lips stretching into a smirk at her.
Aria ignored it all and went inside, seeing Erron smoke a cigarette through the hole in the maks where his mouth is.
"So, I guess you got yourself busy while I was gone." Aria said, as she started to pull her books out of her bag and onto the kitchen counter.
"Ehh.... She was good, but couldn't suck a dick to save her life." he replied making Aria cringe.
"Don't wanna know." she said, pulling her hand in front of her face.
"Hey, you are the one who induced the subject. So, how was the date with the slimball?" Erron asked as he crossed his arms over his bare chest.
Aria just now noticed he was half naked, the dragon tattoo on his pectoral visible, but she could care less, because the way he spoke was kind of rude.
"It actually went fine. He is quit lovely actually." Aria spoke, and his response was that he crushed what was left of his cigarette in his hand.
"I am sure you two make a fucking cute couple." The Hacker snarled and that's when Aria couldn't hold her anger more.
"What is your problem?!" she screamed at him and he moved towards her.
She wasn't afraid, he wouldn’t hurt her and even if he did, she could over power him easily.
"My problem!? That skunk is all sweet and nice just to get into your pants." he told her, his masked face away from her own by just a few inches. She glared up at him and put her hands on her hips, not backing down.
"Why do you care? From the looks of it, you have one hell of a time with each women that steps into this place." she spoke, poking his chest with her finger.
He swallowed down and in his fit of anger he ripped his mask off and threw it against the wall, breaking it. He huffed and had his back turned to her. He was finally after months bare before her, well except for his pants, but his face was the most intimate part of himself. He felt vulnerable without it.
He looked over his shoulder at her and she finally took a glimpse of what he looks like; high cheekbones, plush lips and grey eyes. He was handsome, she had to admit and she noted that he looked like any average guy.
"What?!" he snarled at her and she rolled her eyes, not afraid of him.
"Nothing." she said, crossing her arms over her chest and looked away.
Erron sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose turning fully at her and looking at her.
"Look... I am sorry for all of this. It was dumb of me to be jealous." he finally admited and he wished he could take that back.
Aria looked at him with wide eyes and a confused look.
"You were jealous? You mean..." she asked and she internally grinned in victory when she saw a slight pink blush on his cheeks as he looked down.
"Don't mention it.... But lets not act like you are all innocent here. You were pretty jealous of these women you talked about." And again the smug jerk returned, making Aria shake her head, her dark afro hair bouncing.
"Oh shut up!" Aria said, glaring playfully at him.
He stepped closer to her with a smirk.
"Make me." he told her and before they both realized what was happening they kissed, her arms wrapped around his neck and his arms around her waist.
The kiss wasn't like anything Aria expected. She expected something roughish, brutal even, but it was actually gentle, slow and sensual. It was such a different side to him.
After some moments they both pulled away and looked at eachother, like they couldn't believe that this was happening. It felt so unreal.
"You should sleep." Aria finally broke the silence, motioning to the bags under his eyes. He chuckled and pressed his lips against her forehead.
The Hacker was a stubborn one, but he had to admit that its been quit long since he slept in his own bed. His back ass starting to hurt from taking naps in his chair at the desk.
"Come on, go to bed. I will come back, I just need to change into some comfortable clothes." Aria told Erron and he nodded, moving towards his bedroom, then it hit him.
He was gonna share a bed with Aria. Usually, he slept into his chair and left his bed all for her, mainly for her own privacy and respect. The dark girl came back into a pair of white shorts and tank top. He gulped down as he saw her. It wasn't the first time she showed so much skin, but this time it felt slighly different, it felt almost sexual.
She got up onto the bed and moved under the covers with him, peeking his lips and offering him a good night, then turned off the lights.
If the Hacker was tiered before, now it was like a lightning struck him, because sleep was out of the calculum now.
"Are we together now?" he finally broke the silence and asked. Aria moved to turn around and looked into the dark at him.
"What kind of question is that?" she asked with an arched eyebrow.
"Just making sure. That's all. I do care, you know." he spoke in a soft voice, his arms wrapping around her, making her squeak but welcome the warmth.
This was a total surprise. Aria knew Erron could be sweet, if he wanted and left his ego aside, but this is all new. It was like a different person.
She knew that he went through some nasty relationships and didn't wanted to try again, because he was sick of ending the dumb one, but the realization hit her. She managed to make him open his heart.
Who knew that this egocentric sadistic killer could be such a softie?
"I am not gonna leave you." she whispered into his chest, her lips kissing his inked skin.
"I know." he spoke, his hands stroking the skin of her lower back as the tank top riddled up. She shivered at the feeling and wondered if things could go that way. It was tempting.
"Not tonight." he broke the silence yet again.
She looked up at him and felt her heart skip a beat.
"I want to enjoy this simple moment together." he said, kissing the top of her head.
Well, that sure was a pluse. The Hacker pushing his libido aside for a cuddling moment. She sure was one lucky lady.
And to think the two used to be just friends.

Misfit of Demon King Academy 1 | Healin’ Good PreCure 13 - 14 | Lapis Re:Lights 1 | God of High School 1 | Muhyo and Roji’s BSI s2 1
Misfit of Demon King Academy 1
This originally had the ecchi tag on its anime entry on AniList…or, at least, that’s how it was in my memory…but now that I see it doesn’t have that, it’s just another reincarnation isekai-type series. Let’s dig into it!
I…think this guy is meant to be portrayed as “hot” because he has the piercing eyes and he’s tall (against the girls in what will presumedly be his harem), but he kind of looks like your standard Potato-kun in a white outfit…so, uh…*shrugs*
Uh…is that guy meant to be Indian? You can’t get more obvious than the “Indu” family. Update: You see his brother later and Leorg has fairer skin, so maybe not.
LOL, “Flame of Darkness” makes someone nothing but a chuunibyou.
Uh…this is called The Misfit of Demon King Academy, y’know? Anos (Anoth?) is gonna get in, you bet your butts.
The owl is cute.
…guy, that 3 second rule thing was actually funny, but the more you think about the joke, the less funny it gets. Show: 1. Me: Infinity -1
Just from appearances, I wanna guess Misha is an ice or light magic user, or whatever equivalent the show has.
Is this what Assassin’s Pride could have been…?
How did the mother (Anoth’s) think her kid maturing that fast wasn’t weird?
Mushroom gratin? Is that an actual dish?...Yep, seems so. Sounds nice. I like mushrooms.
What’s up with young mothers in anime these days? Then again, the only other point of reference I have is Masamune-kun’s Revenge…
I thought it was the other Indu guy we saw earlier. This guy’s…not that bad-looking, though (LOL, my preferences ring out loud and clear…)…welp, spoke too soon. There he is. Update: Leorg kinda looks like Hakuto Kunai from Demon Lord, Retry!, come to think of it.
If Zepes died several times over the course of this episode…would one more death actually matter? (Not really, to be honest. Zepes is a scumbag.)
Come to think of it, this anime got postponed due to COVID, yeah? Was that why there was a sakuga spot earlier…?
Was that Sasha (Misha’s sister)? I found her name while checking if the anime was postponed.
I like the colour choices in this show, at least.
I don’t think this show has the best sense of comedic timing. Let your jokes breathe, dammit! That’s what comedic beats are for!
In a season with more offerings, I might get rid of this or pause it, but the season’s fairly sparse as it stands (darn virus!) so it stays.
Update: I didn’t notice, but an Anime News Network staff member wrote that Anoth’s surname is familiar…if you read Harry Potter.
Healin’ Good PreCure 13
Gotta start in the middle for this and work our way back. Note I did watch the 1st 2 eps without subs earlier this year when they were on the official PreCure YouTube, so I’m ahead of most people.
(From wandering the wiki and the news) I’ve seen nothing but pink/blue/yellow Cures these days, so I kind miss the more adventurous colours like green and orange…but then again, I never really liked green. It’s the colour of envy and…as petty as it sounds, I think I developed that bias because green is stereotypically the colour of rot, vomit (aside from anime’s rainbow vomit) and stinky things.
I didn’t notice this, but there’s a faint highlight on the Cures’ eyes (red for Grace, purple for Fontaine and blue for Sparkle).
It’s a drone! In PreCure! Yay! (It finally hit me exactly how much of a distant dream it’s been – from watching Suite and episodes of most of the other PreCure ‘til now – watching PreCure legally as a simulcast is! It’s crazy and it only took, what…5 years between Suite and this? 16 if you count from Futari wa to Healin’ Good.)
Is it that drone?
Hah? This is almost like the electricity-themed PreCure I came up with on the fan wiki. It’s not like I could sue Toei for it, though…they own that stuff, I only own what came out of my own imagination.
The subs say “Rate”, but “rate” has a meaning in English. No wonder the initial wiki translations say “Latte”, especially because the queen is “Teatine” to match.
Okay, so Mei is the sis and Yota is the brother. Got it.
Hey! What if there was a PreCure where the villains had devastated another world before? That would really raise the stakes.
“[T]hunders” (sic)? Thunder is the sound, lightning is the flash. Which one is it?
I see. As soon as they identified it as the Element of Lightning, I sort of guessed they could add it to their repertoire later, and I was right.
Its’s nice to see they put a woman in the moving company as well. Proves that girls can do anything they set their minds to, even what are supposedly “men’s jobs”.
I guess from the face I should’ve expected the element to talk, like the Fairy Tones from Suite, but I didn’t really figure that out until I saw it talk,
I feel like Hinata should’ve gone to see how Mei made her juice. That way, the two might be able to make similar-tasting juice…but that’s just an idea.
Healin’ Good PreCure 14
I feel like Byogens were responsible for Nodoka’s sickness, much like they are for Latte.
“Energy Source” seems to refer to a place where energy appears…I know that sounds a bit dumb if you don’t realise genki hakken means something like “appearance of energy (for a person)”, but…yeah, the PreCure series is like this. Unfortunately, that’s what you have to deal with.
I feel like this “teamwork overcomes all hardships” message is important in this time of COVID-19.
Guaiwaru = “condition is bad”, or ill health (guai ga warui).
Is that the element of air? I thought the PreCure would’ve used their element of lightning to fix the steamer, but hey, teamwork works too.
I’m a weeny bit peevy they translate minna to “girls”. It’s correct in context when it’s been translated that way, but minna means “everybody”.
I imagined Hinata saying “Watashi no smartphone ga!” instead of “Atarashii sumaho ga hoshii!”
Lapis Re:Lights 1
Eh…COVID-19 means I gotta sample things I’m not so crazy about.
Why is one of the first lines in this show “My behind hurts!”?
Bristol? Is this England?...Nope, it’s a place called “Mamkestell”.
I was thinking this girl…I think the reviews said her name was Tiara…was going to sing to the flower to make it perk up again, but nup, she whistled to it. That seems a bit irrelevant, to be honest. (I would prefer an all or nothing approach to a wish-washy approach like this…as in, if this is an idol show, then either go all in with the singing and dancing, or do something else that’ll catch my attention.)
Tiara’s face looks hella generic.
For some reason, I get this ominous feeling when the word “witch” is mentioned…must be the instinct from Madoka popping up again.
Lemme guess. Lynette is the bookworm?...*sigh* Just another method of showing a character is a bookworm without actually showing their reading a book, which I think is counterintuitive.
Get some protective gear, girls!
Rosetta keeps saying “Yes” (in English).
Lemme guess…people ship the dumb one and the smart one? They’re like a gender-flipped Dice and Gentaro, only the smart one is more uppity and the stupid one is more sporty.
The word appears to be noumei, but that exact word doesn’t seem to exist. Lavie seems to say the word is the opposite to something else, but I can’t tell what that is either…
Albino rabbit, eh?
…people probably ship Rosetta and Tiara too, right? *sigh*
So there’s…no singing in this fantasy/idol show. Whistling is how you invoke magic…so how is someone who can’t whistle supposed to invoke magic?!
Whose idea was it to put the OP in the middle of the episode?
It was “Neechan, daikirai!” “Forget you” is a fairly loose translation…
Little Miss Rosetta = Rosetta-chan.
I think Tiara called Rosetta “sensei” when the former wanted the latter to take care of her (i.e. take her to their dorm).
Titi = Tiara. I didn’t actually figure that out because I thought it referred to the rabbits.
Gah! These almost-real-world names (or real world names, in regards to “Bristol”) are gonna drive me NUTS!
*sigh* Boob jiggle.
*sighhhhhhhhh…* Lemme guess, there’s a potential expulsion on the horizon? Update: Yep. Dropped.
God of High School 1
First Webtoon series I’m covering here.
Oh, I checked out the first chapter of the webtoon because CR linked it to their anime page. The only difference I’ve seen from that, aside from fleshing out the backgrounds, is…that creepy skull (?) on the wall.
You can tell it’s Korean when I don’t understand what the text says. (I don’t know Korean, but I do know some Chinese and Japanese.) Update: This is Japanese-dubbed, but they left the Korean text in.
That intro is much more powerful now that the backgrounds are fleshed out.
Ooh, the colours in the OP are very nice!
Hmm? They’re starting with the grandpa, rather than starting with “I’m Mori Jin, 17 years old”? Good choice.
The expressions in this show are funny. I like them already.
Waittttttttt…I dunno how Korean names work. Is Mori Jin’s first name “Mori” or “Jin”? Update: I checked it up, and I got even more confused!
KORG Arena seems to be…from Marvel? Like BnHA references Star Wars???
*sigh* Moonbucks? Again?...and of course the girls only talk about “hotties”. We need a Bechdel test in this thing.
The comments on ch. 1 said “A new Luffy is born”, so now I agree with it…but they’re not going to show how Mori Jin was enlisted for GOH (as they seem to abbreviate it)?
There’s Japanese, English and Korean in the afro dude’s comments.
I’m amazed that tall dude with the spiky hair wasn’t more surprised about Mori Jin and the girl passing by…
Would those glasses on Mori Jin’s head be any help? Update: Turns out those aren’t “glasses”…they’re a sleeping mask.
Kamina glasses!
They put CR and Webtoon advertising over everything in this anime…geesh.
These red parts of people’s noses are gonna bug me, aren’t they…?
It should be battle royale, right? Update: Okay, so I checked and both are correct spellings.
This seems like the sort of thing that would never get funded because you need to pull off every battle scene right.
They cut the initial fight with “Blondie” out, but that actually makes things more interesting! Good choice.
Lemme guess – Mori Jin is going to have to fight this Kang Manseouk guy at full power one day? *shrugs* (Can I stop referring to people by their full names already??? I can’t stop until I know which is the first name and which is the last.) Update: So the wiki finally helped me out and Mori is the first name and Jin the last, meaning I can call him “Mori”. Got it.
*Mori suddenly pulls the prisoner’s pants down* - That was…random.
I liked it more than I thought I would! (Just for reference, the other protag dude is called Han Dae-wi and the girl is Yoo Mira.)
Muhyo and Roji’s BSI s2 1
(Update for the Tumblr fans: I finished s1 outside the seasonal format.)
Kokkuri-san never goes well in anime…
Where does Nana work again…?
I don’t think Muhyo and Roji are legally (magically legally?) obligated to tell Nana anything about what they do.
Yay! Goryo is animted for the first time! He has such a beautiful voice~!
Notably, Roji wouldn’t have had a smartphone in 2004 (or whatever year close to that when the manga put this bit out).
Goryo (5) vs Muhyo (6). Didn’t figure this out at the time I read the manga.
I think the subbers misgendered Goryo. Goryo is a dude, as can be gathered from the name “Daranimaru”.
“Waka”? Does that stand for “young head [of the office]” or something?
Okay, whose bright idea was it to pair Now on Air (female vocalists) with Muhyo and Roji’s (a series dominated with dudes)…?
Ah, Funimation is on the production team of this anime. That would explain the dub rights.

The Jacket 01.
Tumblr media
Sweet Pea x Reader
Riverdale, a town where everybody knows each other and their business. A place that had a great divide better the posh north side and the destitute south side. One side had the Serpents and the Ghoulies  while the other had the Lodges. Each side had their dirt, maybe more than the other, but there was something special about the both of them.
A new family was coming to Riverdale, and rumors were already brewing. Well, one of the family members was familiar with the small town. The mother, Diane Jackson, a chocolate firecracker, with an afro big enough to supply Earth, Wind and Fire, was born and raised in Riverdale. When she was eighteen she left her hometown, because she wanted to see what was outside of her tiny town. She went to Seattle, Washington a city where her past would not catch up with her and she could peacefully start a new  life their and she did. A force drew the family to Riverdale and the three members all agreed that the city life was becoming to reckless. So they decided to pack up, leaving their life in Seattle and moved to the seemingly peaceful town called Riverdale.
                                                       -------
The gruff sounds of a Uhaul and the soft humming from a motorcycle were the only sounds heard on the road. Upon the family’s arrival the weather was depressing, grey skies and  cool winds, shades of green whipped passed the drivers as they made their way to the town. In the Uhaul, Diane sat in the driver seat and her husband Vontae, a tall caramel man and had a short fro,  who was the sunshine of Diane’s eyes slept in the passenger seat. They met soon after Diane moved to Seattle and were connected by the hip  ever since. Their daughter
rode behind them, trying not to go too fast.
Cassandra Jackson, the new sophormoreat Riverdale High. A medium toned African-American teen, with tight brown curls touching the middle of her back. Her dark brown eyes ignited with passion and rebellion as she goes about her days. She was a perfect mix of boom and street smart, just like her mother. She always knew how to play the game, without getting caught up,even in unfamiliar places  like Riverdale. Another thing Cassandra got from her mother, was a jacket. The leather jacket, with a two headed red eyed, green serpent on the back. The words “South Side” on the top and “Serpents” on the bottom, was always found on the teen. The jacket came from her mother, a symbol of her time in Riverdale, the truth but not the whole truth.
                                                          ------
The family continued driving along the bumpy road and soon made a turn disappearing amongst the trees. The further they drove, a sign on the side of the road became more visible.A curious Cassandra slows down and puts her foot on the ground as she stopped to read the sign.
“Riverdale, the Town With Pep!” she mocks in a high pitched voice  “Tch.”
She sets herself back on the bike and continues to drive to her destination
                                                       ————
The trees left and were replaced with shabby houses, trailer parks, small shops, an abandoned school with graffiti all over, and this large log cabin styled building with motorbikes decorating its parking lot. The trees took its place once again and Cassandra began to ride faster. After playing speed racer behind her parents and hearing the glorious honks of the other riders on the road, the family crossed the train tracks that led to the other side of town. A retro diner right by the train tracks, caught Cassandra’s attention.
     “How cute.” she thought.
She continued to ride and soon the scenery changed again. This was obviously the nicer part of town. The small shops looked more kept together and the streets weren’t as dirty as it was on the opposite side of the tracks. The homes on this side were a lot more upscale. A complete 360 from what was behind the diner. This is the side of town the Jackson family would be residing for the rest of their time in Riverdale.
Driving through the suburban neighborhoods of Riverdale, the Uhaul began to slow down approaching a of a white two story house. Cassandra stopped at  the mailbox and took off her helmet, while her parents backed into the driveway next to their red Toyota Camry and her navy blue Ford truck behind it. The cars and the bigger furniture was brought to their new house a 3 days  in advance. She leaned on the bike and waited for her parents to come out. Her mother, Diane, jumped out of the truck first followed by her father,Vontae. Her father started unloading the U-haul while Cassandra and Diane started talking.
“Hey mom, I got the jacket,” Cassandra smiled “almost forgot it.”
“All these years and this jacket still looks good as new.” Diane rubbed her daughter shoulders
“That’s ‘cause it has an awesome owner.” she gave spin with a smirk.
Diane laughed softly at her daughter antics.
“Come on let's help your father with the stuff.”
  “Yes m’am.” She nodded.
After what seemed like a decade, everything was unpacked. The only that remained was a small box in Cassandra’s bed that contained memories of her past life back home. Diane and Richard were down stairs fixing dinner, while the curly haired girl was upstairs taking a shower. She came out of the bathroom with a purple cotton towel wrapped around her body and made her way to her room, shutting the door behind her. Cassandra changed into pajamas, black shorts that stopped mid-thigh and a random shirt, and went downstairs to eat.
Everyone ate in silence, until Cassandra decided to break that.
“So, what’s the school called again?” She looked up at her parents
Vontae dropped his fork, “How could you forget and we just told you?” His deep voice could vibrate the table.
“You told me a week ago, how could I not forget.” Cassandra said sarcastically.
“Riverdale High is the school and you start tomorrow.” Diane sighed and continued eating.
“Tomorrow! I can’t even see what this town is about?” She dropped her fork.
  The parents continued to eat.
“You can… after school.” The mom stuck out her tongue in a cheek my matter.
“If you say so” she sighed “Where is this place at?”
“We passed it up on the way here. ”  She knew her daughter was trying to get out of going to school.
“Right.” She rolled her eyes and started eating again.
“It is a good school, I enjoyed going there.” she said reassuringly.
“I thought you went to Southside High?”
“Yeah I went there for my last two years since they finished building the school after ny sophomore year.”
  “Oh.” she nodded
“You have to start for eight, so be up at 7 or before then”, He said sternly, “and no shenanigans!”
She took a final bite of her food and said, “Yes sir and yes m’am.” She got up from her seat and headed to the kitchen to put her plate in the sink. Cassandra told her parents goodnight and headed up the stairs, to her room, and finally to sleep.
                                                         ————
Banging on the door slowly faded in the sleeping teens ears.Cassandra peaked from under her covers, immediately regretting her decision as she groaned at the sunlight that passed her curtains.
“Wake up sweetheart, it’s your first day!” A loving voice came from the other side of the door.
Cassandra huffed and sat up, glaring at the door through her hair in her face.
   “Kill me why don’t you?!”
The door opened and Diane leaned against the threshold. She put a hand over her heart and gasped.
“Oh, I couldn’t do that.” she shook her head.
Cassandra slung the covers off of her body, letting her feet touch the tan carpet.
“Oh yeah why not?” In groggy voice she stood up.
“Duh, I would go to jail and who wants to go jail?” She yanked one of Cassandra’s arms and dragged her to the bathroom.
“This counts as abuse you know.” She whined.
“No it’s not.” Vontae says standing next to the bathroom door, sticking out his tongue.
“I know my rights, and this” she pointed at her parents, “aint right” you shut the door.
“Sure Jan.” They said together and laughed.
The curly haired beast looked  at herself in the mirror and huffed. She started to the run the water and brushed her teeth while waiting for the water to get warm. Cassandra spat into the sink and rinsed her mouth out. She smile  at herself in the mirror and proceed to take her shower.
                                                  ——————
After her shower she returned to her room to get dressed for the day.
She went to her closet and found a pair of ripped skinny blue jeans and a loose white t-shirt. After putting those on she went to her vanity and picked out her hair and then brushed it up into a bun. Light makeup was applied and she was ready. Cassandra grabbed her black combat boots, her book sack, and her leather jacket and left her room.
“Come on!” A feminine voice rang from down stairs.
     “I’m coming!”
She walked down stairs and met her parents at the bottom of the stairs.
“How do I look?” Cassandra gave a fake smile.
  They stared at her.
“Alright let’s head out” Richard said.
“Slander. Pure slander.”she said under her breathe.
Diane had Cassandra’s keys in her hands. Cassandra grabbed the keys from her mother’s hand and started going towards the door.
“Alright I’ll be on my way.” she rushed out of the house and locked the door.
Her parents stood side by side of each other stared at the door  that their daughter went through.
“Have a nice day” Vontae said softly
The rumble of her motorcycle was heard from outside and soon faded out as she took off to her new school.
“Shit!”  Diane jolted, scaring her husband.
“ What ?”
“Was she wearing the jacket?”
“I don’t know I was paying attention. I think so..”
 “Shit!”
“What’s the problem  she wears it all the time?”  Vontae crossed his arms.
Diane sighs, giving up “I need to tell you something.”

Rika Kihira, 3A, Quads and Goals
Qn: What was ... ... your most regretful moment of your skating life?
It might be the All Japan Juniors 2 years ago ... ... At that time too my condition wasn't good, but I was too pumped up, and thought that it was better to focus completely on definitely landing my jumps, and focused my energy in the wrong way. I didn't understand my own self. In the actual competition I panicked, and that was the competition that was the most shocking one for me.
~*~ Now that Rika is moving to seniors, there is certainly a lot more mainstream interest in her. Much thanks to @jumpitwithashuulanditwithapa for pointing me in the direction of this very interesting interview by Sports Navi.
~*~
Rika Kihira talks about the relationship between the 3A and the edge of the blade, and the reason to continue competing even though "adjusting is difficult"
Tumblr media
Caption: Rika Kihira, successfully landing the first 3A-3T in the history of Women's Figure Skating. We asked the anticipated 15 year old to look back on a season of great progress. (Photo by Kiyoshi Sakamoto)
The one who broke into a shy smile the moment she faced the camera, was that 15 year old. A 3rd year student in middle school, she made an appearance at her first All Japan Championships [t/n: aka Nationals] held at the end of last year, and placed 3rd on the podium. Rika Kihira (Kansai University KFSC), who wedged herself in amongst the senior level skaters who were aiming for the Pyeongchang Olympics, had an extraordinary presence about her. On top of that, at the Junior Grand Prix Final held just 2 weeks before this competition, she accomplished the incredible feat of becoming the first woman to successfully land the 3A-3T combination jump in competition.
To Kihira, the 3A is a jump she can "challenge [herself]" with, and is something she "will not let go of in the future either". Each time she changes her boots, she must readjust the edge (of the blade) to the best position, and it seems that she is keenly aware of how difficult that is.
The 3A and its rising success rate
Full Translation under the cut
Tumblr media
Caption: Placing 3rd in her first All Japan Championships. She showed her efforts by wedging herself in amongst the senior level skaters [Photo by Kiyoshi Sakamoto] Qn: This season was one of great advancements, such as placing third in your first All Japan Championships.
If I were to sum up the whole season, it was one where there were both good and bad times. It was my first time at the All Japan Championships so I did feel nervous but inside the rink both my condition and my feel (for the ice) matched and I was glad that I was able to skate as I usually do in practice.
Qn: You became the first woman to ever land the 3A-3T successfully in competition at the JGPF.
Before that I had landed that jump in local competitions and such, but those are not recognised by the ISU, so I was very conscious (of the fact that it would be recognised if landed) at the JGPF. And, even with that on my mind, it was good that I was still able to land the jump.
Qn: Comparing this season with all the seasons before it, what areas do you think have changed?
The success rate of my jumps has increased, and with skating practice my skating skills have improved too. However, out of all of that, I think the best (part) is that the success rate of my 3A has increased.
Qn: What do you think is the reason why your 3A success rate has increased?
Up until the year before last, even though I could jump it when I was in good condition, it felt like once I took 2 days off I'd have to start again right from the beginning at the next practice, and in that one day it would take everything I had just to get the feel (for the jump) back. For the rest of the jumps, even if there was a break in between practices it would be find, but for the 3A, the moment there was a break, the timing of the jump would change in accordance with the condition of my muscles, and that was very difficult (to deal with). But since about last year, I've begun to know the timing, and it may be that I've come to remember the form of the jump with the number of times I've practiced it in training. I think that's how my success rate has increased.
Qn: Are you now able to jump the 3A normally even if you take 2 days off?
Yes that's right. When I can't land it, there are many reasons such as when I've changed to a new pair of boots. Like I said earlier, up until around the year before last, my condition was up and down. But recently even with a break in between trainings, I'll spend one day readjusting, and the next day I will be able to jump with a good sense (of it) right from the very beginning (of practice). So even if, for example, I spend a long time travelling on flights during competitions, (my feel for the jump) won't change.
The feel that changes with the position of the blade's edge
Tumblr media
Caption: During Junior Worlds in March, she had a fracture of her left ring finger, and was not able to adjust (the position of) her edges before the competition. She was not able to land the 3A either. (Photo by Joosep Martinson - ISU via Getty Images)
Qn: It seems like you've really made the 3A your own haven't you?
But once I change my boots, the feeling changes with the position of the edges. I have been making a lot of adjustments to the edges, and attaching them at the position where I feel "this is it". So there is still that problem when it comes to my boots.
Qn: Once you've changed your boots, how long does it take before you are able to land the 3A properly?
If I get a good edge (position) then I can jump it within that day itself. However, after around a week the boots are broken in, so I have to shift the position of the edge just a little. And then as I use them for about just under 2 weeks, I shift (the edge) bit by bit, and then it feels like I've finally found the right position. When I can't find that position it's really tough, so in order for that not to happen I need to take the competitions into consideration in order to match them up with the timing of my boot changes. Recently I've been paying attention to that.
Qn: Has there been a competition where your 3A has been affected because of a change of boots?
Actually, at Junior World (Championships) in March, the boots were new and the edges in a bad position. I had changed the boots about 1 month beforehand but because of the fracture in my left ring finger I hadn't been jumping the 3A...... I was landing the other jumps so, I thought I might be able to land the 3A too, and forgot about the edge position (strained laugh). I think the edge was in a position that wasn't good for me personally, to jump. I had realised it only 3 days before I was supposed to leave, so (I thought), in any case I had no choice but to jump with the edge in that position and left it as it was, and as expected it didn't go well. One week after I came back from Junior Worlds, I still couldn't land the jump so I thought "Just change the boots already" and changed them, and then I was able to land the jump right away...... Actually my condition improved so much that I thought "so this is how good my condition can become" (laughs). It was my own mistake, but through this experience, I thought that I want to be able to perfect the condition of my boots. From now on, I want to start considering when I should change my boots for the next competition, and the timeframe to change them, even when I am still able to use my current pair.
Qn: Do you adjust the position of the edges yourself?
There are many things that I pay attention to only for the 3A so I'll tell my mother "I think it's a little off" and she helps me change them, and Mr Kosugi Skate* (a shop inside the Kansai University Ice Arena, her training base) helps me to adjust the position of the edges. If I think it's hard to land the jump, then I'll jump it many times and see. If I think the issue lies with the boots, then I go about changing (either the boots or the edges) quickly.
[*t/n: The shop name is just Kosugi Skate, so yes, Rika added a -san to the name and hence the Mr Kosugi Skate. It's quite cute, but also a very normal thing for girls to do, especially girls of her age]
Qn: While there is a "best" position for the edge to be in order to land the 3A, but for the other jumps is that position alright too?
Yes that's right. If I shift it slightly, I don't realise it when doing the other jumps, so even if the position is slightly off for them, I can jump them. But, for the 3A, the timing becomes very important, so I always pay super close attention and change the edge of the position (as needed).
Currently, she is practicing the 4S and 4T
Tumblr media

Qn: You are becoming known for the 3A. What thoughts do you have and what are you particular about?
Recently, changing the boots and adjusting the edge position is extremely difficult. Even now there are still competitions where, depending on my condition, I'll think "maybe I shouldn't jump (the 3A)". But in a situation where most skaters don't jump the 3A, by adding it in I can challenge myself, and I can accumulate the experiences that can only be had by adding the jump in, so from here on I think I will not be leaving it out.
Qn: You have also declared that you will be challenging the quad jumps. Are you actually practicing them now?
Right now I am attempting the 4S with a two-legged take off. There are 2 styles of jumping the Salchow, and Skater Yuzuru Hanyu (ANA) and Skater Nathan Chen (USA) both have different ways of jumping it. Hanyu is the type who takes off with both feet on the ice, whilst Nathan is the type who takes off with just his left foot on the ice, and the right foot kept as it is, floating (just above the ice). I think other skaters mostly fall into one of these 2 patterns. I tried to see which of the 2 was easier to jump, but the two-legged take off doesn't really fit well with me, so now I am thinking about going back to taking off with just the left foot. I still have not been able to perfect it yet, but when I jump it with one leg, if I can take off right at the start then I've just about come to the point where it's mostly fully rotated.
I am practicing the 4T a lot, and it has gotten better than it was last year, so I think I hope to perfect it within the season.
Qn: You also have a reputation for your skill in expression.
The senior level skaters definitely have wonderful skill in expression, and especially if you compare the skating to the junior level, it's completely different. I do think that I myself might also be getting better year by year, but compared to the senior level skaters it's absolutely inadequate. Since I have plans to move to seniors next season, I want to improve my expression through ballet and dance, and make changes as I watch videos (of myself) during on-ice practice.
Qn: It seems like in April, you received choreography from Mr Tom Dickson for next season's free skate.
It's a piece of music called "Beautiful Storm", and there are sounds of thunder, sounds of waves. It's a piece that gets better and better as you listen to it. Rather than calling it a pretty (program), it's more like it's been done with a sort of cool feel to it, that's how I feel it's becoming.
Qn: Is your jump layout confirmed?
There are rule changes so it's not confirmed yet but, I'll start with either the 4T or the 3A+3T, and then the 3A, 3Lo, 3Lz+3T, 3F, 3Lz+2T+2Lo, and finally the 3S, something like that. It's only recently been created so from here on I want to be able to make it a wonderful program.
Qn: What about your short program?
I will be receiving the choreography from Coach David Wilson. The music has not been confirmed yet but I have suggested a piece that I like so we will be deciding whether or not to use it.
Winning at the Beijing Olympics is her current goal

Qn: Please tell us about a time in your skating life thus far where you felt you had matured.
I failed terribly (11th place) at the All Japan Junior Championships 2 years ago (Nov 2016). When I think about it now, while I had been practicing the 3A a lot, my Lutz and all had not been well established yet, and I wasn't able to skate the program through properly. It had been my goal to participate in the All Japan Championships that year, but I was not able to in the end.* However, I was able to gain a lot from that experience, and it was a good practice for me as well.
This season, during the JGPF, I participated while running a fever. As the competitions were late in the evening, having to perform with my muscles in a different condition from usual was also a new experience for me. Now, I'm more conscious of needing to wear a mask on the plane so that I don't catch a cold. I can't pinpoint a competition and say "this one" was the one I matured in, but in all my competitions, there are at least 2 points to learn from, and with all these competitions I've gained quite a bit of knowledge. I can feel that I am maturing (as I take part in) these many competitions.
*[t/n: You must be 15 years old to participate in Nationals, but the top 6 junior skaters in the Junior Championships will be allowed to participate even if they are under 15, as Rika was then]
Qn: What was your happiest moment, and your most regretful moment of your skating life?
The happiest was last year's  All Japan Championships when I placed 3rd. The most regretful was...what was it (strained laugh). It might be the All Japan Juniors 2 years ago that I mentioned earlier. At that time too my condition wasn't good, but I was too pumped up, and thought that it was better to focus completely on definitely landing my jumps, and focused my energy in the wrong way. I didn't understand my own self. In the actual competition I panicked, and that was the competition that was the most shocking one for me.
Qn: A new 4 year cycle towards the Beijing Olympics has started. What are the areas you are thinking of improving on?
I can't narrow it down to just one area but, (I want to improve on) the stability of my jumps, and I want to add on new jumps too. And also, my expression and my skating skills too. I think it would be good if I could perform a program where every component gets positive GOE, and up until I participate in the Beijing Olympics I want to improve every component to the point where I can say there is nothing left undone. Being able to participate in the Beijing Olympics is my first goal but, if I do get to participate then I must be at the level at which I can aim for a medal. Till then, I want to steadily gain experience, and be able to think "there is nothing to be afraid of in competition".
Qn: Do you have a goal as a competitor, as a skater?
I have practiced this much with the goal of one day winning the Olympics. Winning the Beijing Olympics is my current goal so, I'd like to continue forward with that in mind.
I was surprised at intensity with which she stated her goal for Beijing. After a light hearted and slightly self-conscious interview, she certainly wasn't shy about her ambitions hahah Very excited to see her next season. Stay injury free Rika!

Tutor Wanted—A Thororo Story (College AU)
Pairing: Thor Odinson x Ororo “Storm” Munroe
Word Count: 630
Warnings: None
Summary: Thor is a senior at Princeton University and he’s had a good run so far until he takes a literature course. Ororo is also a senior and at the top of her class at Princeton. To amuse herself, she signs up to be a teaching assistant for a literature course. Thor could use the help and Ororo is curious about the campus favorite, Thor.
A/N: This is my first Thor x Storm story so go easy on me. If you enjoy it, send me a message, comment and all that good stuff. I’d hate for this to flop so reblogs are encouraged. I’ll be posting the next chapter when this gets to 50-ish notes. Also, how cute is Aja Naomi King? Like please cast her as Storm and please be my wife.
Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Chapter 2—Who is Ororo Munroe?
Ororo listens to her literature professor run through the syllabus for what feels like the millionth time. She has been in his classroom since 7:30 preparing for his morning classes. Ororo is good with words and literature is a cake walk so she decided to be a teaching assistant for the semester. She comes from a good family; her father was a photojournalist who traveled the world capturing major events from presidential inaugurations to royal weddings. That didn’t give him enough time to be a great father but he did his best when he was around. His work led him to her mother, whom he met in Kenya while on assignment for National Geographic. The two fell in love and Ororo was born. Her mother went back to school and became a writer for the newspaper wherever the family ended up living.
Ororo always resented being an only child; most of the time her thoughts were a jumbled up mess with no one around to vent to who may understand. She developed a bad habit—stealing. Ororo learned how to lift things from stores and people's pockets. She knows how to pick locks which landed her in trouble with her parents often. They threatened to put Ororo in reform school if she was caught stealing again and that shook her out of it.
“You’ll be leading group discussions sometimes as well as all the menial work that comes with the job,” Professor Davis tells her. He’s appears to be in his late fifties, the grey and wrinkles near his eyes give it away. He’s nice enough with a small air of arrogance but that is expected of a upper level college literature professor at an Ivy League school.
“Got it, Professor.” Ororo writes down a few things in her notebook, not that she needs to, she’ll remember it all.
“And these hours work for you?”
“Of course, otherwise I would not have applied. I’ll let you know if anything comes up.” With that she shakes his hand and leaves for her student government meeting in the Quad. As president of the undergraduate student government, she has to be there early. Good thing she decided to wear a sensible outfit—a white t-shirt and some light wash boyfriend jeans and her favorite Vans. The walk to the Quad is long but since its early, there isn’t any traffic to maneuver through.
The Quad is an old remodeled church with most of the original structures on the inside. There’s plenty of places to sit and there’s a small game room. Upstairs is holds the school’s various organization offices. Ororo walks up the immense staircase in the center of the room up to the walkway that overlooks the lower level. The undergraduate student government office is at the end of the hall and it’s one of the largest rooms in the building. The space is cozy with large brown leather seats near the windows and large table for cabinet meetings. Ororo starts to set up the table, placing pre-typed agendas at each seat and tidying up the room.
The meeting is quick and to the point. Ororo sets out goals for the overall undergraduate class and listens to the goals of each representative of the different colleges. When everyone is satisfied, the meeting is adjourned and some stay to help organize the room with Ororo. She looks at her watch and it’s almost time for her to head back to Professor Davis’ classroom. Ororo packs up her stuff and locks the door behind her before leaving the Quad. On the way to class, she picks up a latte and the school’s newspaper. She’s early of course to Davis’ class where he gives her a stack of the syllabus to hold onto until class starts.

January-June 2015 Q&As
January 2015
Q: Why didn't Zelgadis have Rezo teach him white magic, even though Rezo was right there? Then again, it seems like he might not have needed to learn it himself, since he was in a situation where he could immediately have Rezo heal him.
K: He became physically tougher after being turned into a chimera. Plus, when he was one of Rezo's followers, his desire for revenge against Rezo won out, so he prioritized learning attack magic over white magic.
Q: Did the curse put on the cursed oracle that gave her an afro really use the Demon Lord's power? If it did, then why did they use the Demon Lord's power for giving people afros? Or are spells using his power pretty simple, aside from Dragon Slave?
K: The person who cast the spell meant to pray to the Demon Lord, probably, but actually reached something else. What that something was, I don't know.
Q: I remember saying you saying before that Deep Sea Dolphin has one male and one female subordinate. Riksfalto from Knight of Aqualord has a woman's body... So does that mean that despite her looks, Hureika is really a man? I've wondered about this for years, so if you could give me an answer, I'd really appreciate it.
K: When I said "Deep Sea Dolphin has one male and one female subordinate", I think that was in response to a question from "Megabura", but I forgot about it when the comic was created. It's a bad idea to get caught up in the moment and say things at random. I still do it, though. ("Megabura" being short for Mega Burando Kikaku, the official fanclub, I assume.)
February 2015
(I'm not sure I want to attempt to translate the first question, since it deals with a work I've never read called "Half-Youkai, Half-Student". Basically, it's asking if a tengu character had ever taken away any children before he took a character named Maki, and Kanzaka confirms that he has.)
Q: You said in an answer before that "no powerful Mazoku have been created in recent years", but why is that? I thought it might be because they aren't able to increase the numbers of powerful Mazoku any further, since they have to cut away part of their own power in order to create new Mazoku.
K: Due to the current state of the Slayers world, the Mazoku's fighting strength has gradually been decreasing, so for anything short of reviving a piece of the Demon Lord, they consider spreading their strength any thinner a poor idea.
Q: Dynast used Sherra as a tool. In the same way, does he also consider himself an instrument of the Demon Lord?
K: Dynast thinks of himself as the Demon Lord's instrument, and even considers it an honor. So he's even fine with referring to his subordinates as instruments.
April 2015
Q: Could someone on the same level as Sherra create a sword with exactly the same ability as Dulgofa?
K: What type of things it would create would differ depending on the nature of the Mazoku, but it's basically possible.
Q: Mazoku can't use black magic. So would a human who awakened as Ruby Eye lose the ability to use it? They would be able to attack from the astral side and their magic power would increase, so if someone awakened who could use L's magic like Lina, would they become weaker only when it comes to black magic?
K: For example, when Lina was possessed by L, she would have been using her power in a completely different manner than black magic, which utilizes power borrowed from another Mazoku through chanting a spell. In that sense, you could say that they would lose the ability to use black magic. However, they could randomly string together words to sound like a spell, then create some kind of unrelated effect, in order to make it look like they were using black magic.
Q: In the full names of the Saillune royal family, I think the first name is the given name, while the fourth is the family name, but what are the second and third names? Also, in the names Christopher Ul Brozzo Saillune and Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, the second name, "Ul" is the same. Is there a connection?
K: Their middle names come from their ancestors, or from pre-christening names. There's no particular custom that says they have to use names from ancestors several generations back. Christopher and Gracia's second name just happened to come from different people with the same name.
May 2015
Q: Can Zolf use black magic other than Dragon Slave?
K: Of course he can. But since he poured so much effort into learning Dragon Slave, he's not really what you would call first-rate with other spells.
Q: It seems like for a Mazoku, their creator's orders are absolute. Would they still obey if their creator became far weaker than them? For instance, one of the parts of the Demon Lord being weak despite being 100% awakened, or Chaos Dragon, who barely had any power thanks to being mixed with a human. Which of the Mazoku's tendencies would take precedence, "obey the strong" or "the creator is absolute"?
K: It depends on how the Mazoku was created. If they were created to swear absolute loyalty to their creator, that's how they'll behave. If not, then they won't necessarily do so.
Q: I have a question about philosopher's stones. There was an incomplete one in volume 1, plus Lina's talismans as "complete philosopher's stones". Are these something preexisting, or something created as magic items by sorcerers, like the one from alchemy?
K: They're objects made by someone, basically. However, their quality will be entirely different depending on the creator's technique and ability. You can consider Lina's talismans, created by the Demon Lord of the North, to be the highest quality among them.
June 2015
(This question is about a book called I've Started Work as the New Enemy) Q: If Ravakia, as a mechanical life form, had an adorable little kitty climb up her leg using its claws, would it hurt? Or would she be so overwhelmed with the adorableness that she would go "T-this hurts, but it's so cute...!" and take care not to make the kitten fall off, unable to bring herself to scold it?
K: Leaving aside the question of what she'd do in reaction, I think it would be so unbearable that her neural circuits would catch on fire. Whether that would be because of the pain or because of the cuteness, she wouldn't be able to analyze, herself.
Q: The Demon Lord of the North was able to make the Demon's Blood Talismans and give them to Xelloss early on in his imprisonment, but in recent years, the most he can manage to do is to give them instructions by talking in his sleep. Is the seal on him strengthening, year by year?
K: He didn't make the Demon's Blood Talismans and give them to Xelloss, he summoned them and gave them to him. The strength of the seal has never changed.
Q: If the rate of desertification in the Desert of Destruction and the sea life in the Demon's Ocean are abnormal, then has anything strange happened to the North Pole and Wolf Pack Island, where Dynast and Greater Beast are based?
K: In the Desert of Destruction's case, they have the clear purpose of ending civilization, so they are interfering with the ecosystem, but on Wolf Pack Island, where that's not so much the case, not much of anything has happened.

Unice - All about UNice Curly Hair
Unice - All about UNice Curly Hair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A curly haired woman is carefree, she realizes she is only here for a moment, so she wants to enjoy every second she can. She has awakened. Any man would be lucky to be with an adventurous, smart, sexy, down to earth woman such as the woman with naturally curly hair. Find out why below!
Contents
1.Why choose curly hair rocks, 2.Types of Curly Hair 3.All about Unice curly hair 4.How to care for curly hair, A woman with curly hair is special. There is a wildness about a curly haired woman, because she, like her hair, is not always easily tamed. She’s a statement maker, an original, that oozes confidence and personality.
Why choose curly hair rocks,
Tumblr media
1.Curly hair is unique! Your curls are exclusive to you, no one else has the same curls you do. Like a fingerprint, curly hair is unique to its carrier. Only you have your hair. Own it.You are easy to spot in a crowd. 2.Curly hair is versatile. You can style curly hair in so many different ways and it’ll still look fancy and full of life. Be it a messy bun, a ponytail, a halfie, or loose, your hair never looks boring. Also, you have the option of straightening. You can get your hair to look naturally straight, but someone with straight hair can’t get theirs to look naturally curly. 3.Curly hair equals big personality. You can try being shy with curly hair, but people think you’re bold and approachable so you might as well be bold and approachable. Think of all the friends you’ll make! Oooh, you’re so popular! 4.You don’t have to wash your virgin hair bundles deal every day. Curly hair doesn’t get greasy as fast as straight hair does, because it takes longer for your hair’s natural oils to comb through your hair. Therefore, you save money on hair products like Shampoo and Conditioner, because you don’t use them as often. 5.Most importantly- Curly hair is beautiful! All hair is beautiful and once you realize it, it will decrease your insecurities, and increase your happiness. Rock your curls girl! We recommend:UNice brazilian curly human hair
2.Types of Curly Hair
Curly hair.
Tumblr media
If you pull a strand of a type 3 curly, you will notice it has a definite S shape. Granted, the S may be a lower case s or upper case S, or it may even resemble a Z on some occasions…This hair type is full bodied, climate dependent (humidity = frizz), and damage prone. Lack of proper care renders dull curls. CURLY HAIR STYLING TIP: Curly hair is the most temperamental hair type If you apply too much styling product= weighed down/greasy looking curls, apply too little styling product = Diana Ross’s 80’s afro! The key to guaranteeing effortless, frizz free curls is proper styling product application. Always start with a fresh, clean palette on day #1. Cleanse, Condition, Moisturize, then apply your styling product of choice, following the recommended CURLS product application technique.
Kinky hair.
Tumblr media
Despite many misconceptions, this tightly coiled hair is quite fine and fragile. It is wiry, and delicate by nature. Each strand usually has a zig zag pattern. Kinky hair is the driest hair type, thus it is more prone to breakage and requires a gentle touch. KINKY HAIR CARE TIP: Because kinky hair is dry by nature, and therefore breaks easily, it needs added moisture, daily. Dry hair breaks…well moisturized hair is supple and has elasticity. The key to keeping these natural locks healthy, shiny, and beautiful is to moisturize every step of the way. Start with a creamy, sulfate free, moisturizing cleanser. follow suit with a super hydrating conditioner, prep with a rich moisturizer and style with a rich cream, full of natural oils and rich butters. Look for moisturizing humectants, natural conditioning agents, and exotic extracts to add moisture to these locks. Avoid mineral, and petrolatum oil and heavy waxes. We recommed:UNice malaysian curly hair

We recommed:UNice curly human hair lace closure
4.How to care for curly hair,
This hair type has a reputation for being unpredictable, inconsistent and hard to manage. Right from the start, girls with curly hair are at a disadvantage due to the shape of the hair follicle. Even more challenging, not all curls are created equal, so there’s no one size fits all formula. As with all problems, you must get to the root of it to make taming your mane a little bit easier. Curly hair looks gorgeous if you can style in in a good way, but do you know how to wash curly hair correctly, Watch the video, you will get the answer. .fluid-width-video-wrapper width: 100%; position: relative; padding: 0; .fluid-width-video-wrapper iframe, .fluid-width-video-wrapper object, .fluid-width-video-wrapper embed position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;
youtube
How to Combat Dryness
Curly hair has a natural tendency for dryness, much more so than straight hair. This is because the natural oils your scalp produces can travel down the strand of a straight hair much easier than a curly one. Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates can lift the hair cuticles and strip moisture, achieving the exact opposite effect that girls with curly hair want. Avoid hot tools. Minimize use of hot tools or chemical processes that damage the cuticle layer of your 100 human hair. If you must use them, apply heat-protectant styling products before you do.
Tumblr media
How to Minimize Frizz
The lack of natural oils delivered throughout a curly hair strand is why curly hair often turns frizzy. Humidity only makes it worse. This is because hair fibers absorb water, which forces the strand to revert to its curly structure. Dry your hair with a t-shirt or with a microfiber fabric. Traditional terrycloth towels absorb too much moisture, creating too much friction and static. After showering, use a technique called “plopping,” where you bend over and twirl the fabric around your head. This is a no-heat way to decrease dry time and enhance your natural waves and curls. Hands off! Once you’re done styling your hair, keep your hands (and brushes) off. Messing with your hair will encourage or worsen frizzy hair.
Tumblr media
How to Enhance Shine
Highest levels of shine occur on smooth, even surfaces. This places curly-haired people at a shine disadvantage right from the start. Hair continues to lose its shine the more damage occurs, making it look dull. Rinse with cold water. You might have heard about this method from other curlies, and there is a reason why. Rinsing your hair with cold water causes the cuticle of your hair to lie flat, helping to reflect shine. Stay hydrated. While it may seem obvious, the best way to keep hair hydrated is if your body is hydrated too. Try this at-home remedy: Apply equal parts water and apple cider vinegar to your hair after showering. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with cold water. Apple cider vinegar restores your hair to its natural pH balance while working as a clarifier to give your locks a healthy shine.
Tumblr media
How to Reduce Tangles
The follicle structure of curls is prone to tangles and knots. Here are some tips for reducing tangles: Detangle in the shower. Tackle tangles after applying conditioner with the help of a wide-tooth comb to work through any knots. Keep in mind that hair is weaker when wet, so be gentle! Use your fingers. If you need to work a knot out of dry hair, spray the knot with a leave-in conditioner spray and use your fingertips to smooth out any tangles. The conditioner softens your hair so it’s a pain-free way to detangle. Brush from the bottom up. Starting at the bottom allows you to gently detangle each knot, rather than pushing them on top of one another at the bottom and yanking through, causing breakage. When washing your hair, don’t invite tangles by lathering up your hair into a ball on top of your head. Instead, keep your head upright and concentrate shampoo on your scalp — the main area that needs degreasing. Clip your hair up at night. The friction from your pillowcase to your hair causes knots and tangles to appear while you sleep. Using a silk pillowcase can also help. We recommed:UNice 3 bundles peruvian curly hair

human/modern AU of ok ko!
explanations/headcanons under the cut (warning for spoilers/up to date info on the show)
1. dendy      -autistic, wears a kids union suit to deal with sensory issues (she knows it’s pajamas but she doesn’t care!)      -wears red rubber boots for keeping her socks safe from puddles and mud      -pokemon cards are her favorite thing instead of pow cards, since i figured they were analogous. they're her and ko’s mutual special interest. she carries her whole collection in her backpack “in case of catastrophe” and as a comfort item      -has a ds and a laptop in her backpack too. still calls it her hackpack even though she cant hack things with magical powers because ko named it that      -shes native american. i thought about making her japanese because kappas are japanese water demons, but with the whole “nerdy emotionless asian sidekick” stereotype being a big thing, i thought that would be gross and stereotypical. instead i made her a member of the oneida tribe and part of the turtle family clan. the colonization of the kappas in-show mirrored the colonization of real world native american and first nations people, so i thought it would be neat for her to be first nations. i made her oneida because their clan, the turtle clan, is responsible for the keeping of the environment and the keeping of knowledge, and with dendy’s hackpack/her fixing things and her being a kappa i thought that would be both appropriate and pretty cool!
2. ko      -hes already human, i suppose, but i made him less “hero-y” in the sense that he dresses like he could actually be a hero in real life and more the way kids are obsessed with heroes in our world. hence, spiderman!      -watched a bunch of safety psas for riding bikes and misinterpreted them so now he wears kneepads and a bike helmet everywhere      -carol ironed on the spiderman onto a plain cotton t-shirt cuz ko has sensory stuff that prevent him from wearing most merchandise      -also autistic plus has adhd! special interests are pokemon and spiderman; he never stops talking about them      -hates shoes but that’s already canon      -i made him white cuz i’m kin with him and that’s pretty much it!
3. rad      -oh, rad, you really are a 16 year old boy now aren’t you?      -mesh muscle tank top because of course he would. highlighter yellow running shorts and nike sneakers because he likes the aesthetic of being on the track team. he says he didn’t join the track team because it would cut into his me time but really he didn’t make the team and is too embarrassed to admit it :(      -he wears weed socks but hes never seen a weed in real life. he thinks you eat the leaves      -he and enid get their ears pierced together. he has four piercings on his ears and used to have a belly button ring but he didn’t like it so he let it heal. his parents are happy he expresses himself, even when hes being macho or emo or whatever strikes his fancy that day      -hes pretty much ian’s self insert so hes a second generation ghanaian immigrant just like ian.
4. enid      -shes here, shes gay, and shes punk. has a nose ring she wears when she wants to look intimidating but otherwise its four just like rad. they have matching earrings      -gave her a leather jacket with gay patches after a lesbian i once knew. seemed her style i guess. ones the gay flags and one is two venus symbols. id have drawn more but they’re hard. there’s spikes on the cuffs but i’m unsure how well they came out      -black skinny jeans. coolest jeans. bought em from the men’s section      -dyes her hair purple because its her favorite color (much to ko’s delight)      -gave her combat boots after seeing @deanky‘s redesign (link). thanks dean for the good idea!!!       -shes chubby buff. very strong, very chubby. kinda like a lot of people drew sans from undertale except shes not so short. i didn’t do the creepy tiny waist massive thighs shit the show does for all the female characters because its creepy and shes 16 and its not even good for her character?? shes a ninja and like, has organs??? so shes chubby and buff thank you good day      -probably does a martial art or boxing or wrestling but i genuinely dont know anything about sports so you come up with that heacanon ;) (her and rad being on the wrestling team together would be cute!)      -she’s afro-latina! she and her mom are pretty obviously black and her dad calls her mom “querida” during parents day so its pretty much canon yall

Marc Bamuthi Joseph builds a raft out of an Opera
It’s been almost a year since Opera Philadelphia commissioned poet and multi-disciplinary performer Marc Bamuthi Joseph to commemorate the tragic and brutal MOVE bombings with "We Shall Not Be Moved" — an original hip-hop opera. If you missed it then, you’re in luck because Opera Philadelphia is bringing it back for a public screening on September 29th as part of the 8th annual Opera on the Mall event. In this November 12, 2017 “From the Vault” post Imani Roach interviews Bamuthi on the heels of the premier.
(ED. NOTE: THIS POST BY IMANI ROACH WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED NOV. 3, 2017)
For me, opera has always been Black. I was raised, by my grandmother, on the well-worn vinyl recordings of Leontyne Price, who during the late 1950s and 1960s became one of the very first (and certainly most acclaimed) African American vocalists to grace the stages of the Met and La Scala as a leading lady. My grandmother’s deep appreciation for and identification with Price stemmed, I believe, not only from the diva’s silvery, commanding voice, or from her groundbreaking successes as a black woman who came of age during the depression, but from her ability to embody the turmoil of the individual, battered by structures and forces far beyond her control. Opera happens at a scale that lays these forces bare for the benefit of an audience, and in the great roles of her career, from Aida to Floria Tosca to Cio-cio San, Price used her virtuosic instrument to both amplify and refuse her character’s tragic circumstances.
The question of how the dispossessed struggle against and within an unjust society, is at the very heart of We Shall Not Be Moved, a new (and truly operatic) work with words by San Francisco Bay Area poet and choreographer Marc Bamuthi Joseph. Here’s what happened, earlier this fall, when Joseph and I spoke about his very first libretto.
Imani Roach: With a makeshift family of displaced teens at the center of its story, We Shall Not Be Moved explores both the biological and chosen dimensions of kinship. Why was this important subject matter for you?
Marc Bamuthi Joseph: I’ll just focus on black people because that’s where my focus is. I think that we inevitably have an obligation to explore the mobilization of diaspora. And I think that diaspora is typically framed, especially here in the States, through the Garveyite lens of ‘let’s repatriate.’ But there are probably 12 or so black power centers around the world, from Paris to Lagos to Addis Ababa to Brooklyn to Oakland, Havana, Salvador. At some point we’re going to have to be able to build a world within a world. The dominant, hegemonic cultural structures don’t support our lives or our well-being, and have been working very effectively over centuries to inculcate that same ethos within our family structures. The systematic dismantling of the black family in particular has forced many of us to reconsider what family is. And so there are families of thought, families of circumstance, of coincidence, and I think also of cultural aspiration. You’re my family. I think this idea of a family you choose is not just some theoretical thing for many — it is a survival mechanism and a statement of purpose.

IR: I read your “OGs,” the silent, dancing characters in white hoodies who periodically haunt the main action, almost as ancestors. What is your orientation towards ghosts, and was the work at all informed by Afro-diasporic spiritual traditions?
MBJ: The spiritual traditions that I am closest to are Catholicism and Vodun. I don’t think the word ancestors is used in the piece, but that spirits walk among is a particular cosmological posture. I didn’t do a bunch of reading on the Akan or the Yoruba or anything, but what I will say is this: I have hella jobs. Yet I don’t write when my family is awake, so Most of We Shall Not Be Moved was written between 11pm and 4am. And if I had a deadline I would say: “hopefully the ghosts come tonight.”
With this piece in particular, I was also writing a piece called /Pe-LO-tah/ simultaneously — they essentially premiered within a year of each-other. /Pe-LO-tah/ is for my body and the bodies of the people on stage with me. Soccer is the curiosity and the lens through which I look at the relationship to my family. My son is 15, and the piece opens with a meditation on how, as someone who is between the ages of Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin, he has moved from being seen as cute to being seen as a threat. That’s one kind of examination of ancestors.
In the visual semiotics of /Pe-LO-tah/ there are several teenagers and folks in their early 20s who appear wordlessly like the OGs. When I think about it, it’s kind of a tryptic, because I am also making a piece for the Brooklyn Museum that’s focused on rituals for ghosts.
IR: You’ve woven allusions to escape and revolt throughout your libretto. What connections are you drawing between the history of African enslavement in this country and more contemporary forms of state-sponsored violence?
MBJ: We have to regard the anti-historical, anti-intellectual fervor in this country. While there’s an increasingly healthy relationship to counselling and mental health here, I think this entire country has neuroses around race. We should all be in counselling, just around race. And the root of that fracture, again, in the last 700 years, is the enslavement of humans. A dominant contemporary trope for that is the relationship between black people and the police. So it’s hard to reference any engagement with the state, or the relationship between documentation and carcerality and citizenship and humanity without at the very least echoing that history.
This isn’t overtly a police state; it isn’t overtly a slave state; there’s latitude to be and to breathe and to thrive. But at the same time, there was a noose hung outside of the Brooklyn Museum yesterday [after the closing of We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965-1985]. It happened in the middle of the night or early morning and was meant for folks to encounter. And this was in Brooklyn at an institution for the affirmation of black women. You have a president who not only very clearly sides with white supremacy, but who has it as his legacy as well. He is the living embodiment of the national neuroses that limits our ability to grant women and people of color even basic tenets of their humanity. When this is the climate, he’s forcing us to hopefully have more honest conversations. So all of that, Imani, just leads to “what is your responsibility as a black artist in 2017?”

IR: Towards the end of the opera, un/sung, who is your principle narrator, says something like, “I wanna live in a world where more than one thing can be true.” What were you up to there?
MBJ: Originally when un/sung says “I want to live in a world where more than one thing can be true,” I posed it as a question, and Bill [T Jones] made it a statement, dramaturgically. Originally she said “I want to live in a world where more than one thing can be true. Is that not America too?” which is a Langston Hughes reference. There are all of these references to our literary forebears, from Maya [Angelou] to Lorraine Hansberry, and there are all of these references to Langston Hughes in particular. As a dramaturg Bill was trying to make a story and I was trying to make a raft out of a story. I’m trying to make a raft headed north out of a story that can be consumed and hopefully appreciated as an opera. It is that, but I refer to it as Opera Black as F*ck. That is also what we made.
IR: You use a lot of doubled language and coded words like “spook” and “maroon” that in this context signify multiply. Can you talk about your approach to layering meaning?
MBJ: I’m not an opera librettist, I’m a poet, and I wrote a character-driven choreopoem to be performed at operatic scale. So the double meaning is a part of my aesthetic and cultural lineage, from cric-crac to folk tales to proverbs to rap. Just listening to The Roots right now [in this cafe], Black Thought is a huge influence for me. I often say that the writers I grew up on were Nikki Giovanni and Richard Wright and James Baldwin and KRS-one and Chuck D. The writers that I probably listen to the most are rappers. So my relationship to what is canonical is as much Cotton Candy on a Rainy Day as it is To Kill a Mockingbird. That’s what it means to be black and educated. Do you wanna succeed in school? Do you wanna hang out after school? OK. So all of our being here is about that double-consciousness, that monster of the double entendre.
I think specifically of a throw away line where the kids are just starting their migration and un/sung says: “we went West like a smart man with a complex.” Bill said: “What is that? Is that a Kanye West reference?,” and I was like, “yeah, but also…” Bill’s question was “why?” (As a dramaturge he is always asking, “what does it serve?”) And I was like, “the kids will get it. And it will also happen fast enough that it both will and will not matter. But for the people who get it, it will mean a lot.” There are some people who will think Manifest Destiny, as in “go West, young man,” and there are some people who will get both layers. Coding and crypting, layers, unpacking, that is also how we got free. Those things are again part of our tradition and also part of our future. They may or may not resonate for everybody, but they will energetically, and I hope intellectually, hit exactly who they are supposed to.
IR: And who is that? Who are you making this work for?
MBJ: Everybody. Black people. “I’m rooting for everybody black!” In many cases the crux of comedy, and probably the heart of culture is the insider/outsider dynamic. And there are legal, economic, land-based phenomena that we are explicitly not privy to. I think most cultural institutions — the symphonies, the operas — realize that their traditional audiences are an endangered species and that they have to revise their business model. By and large, there have been these ornamental gestures to “be more inclusive,” but here is what being more inclusive actually means: it means that we’re gonna bend borders a little bit, and maybe you’re outside of them.
IR: During intermission, an older white male critic turned to me and said: “So what happened? I mean, I know what happened on the surface, but what happened?” I took that as an acknowledgement of just what you’re saying.
MBJ: That unfamiliarity is the critical tension in this country right now, because the insider group feels like they are being pushed outside through no conscious reckoning of their own. It’s actually pretty awesome that he wanted to know. But he can never really know. Now, because there’s no Octavia Butler style telepathy, the show is still written in English. The media makes it pretty clear. It’s an opera. There are good guys and bad guys. The bad guys aren’t that bad. Is the opera for him? Sure — there’s dancing and the music is pretty.
Un/Sung (spoken word artist Lauren Whitehead) waits for the first day of school to begin. Photo by Dominic M. Mercier.
IR: How did your experience working with young writers at Art Sanctuary inform the piece?
MBJ: The initial conception was to write with young people. There was a specific prompt for probably a quarter, maybe even a third of the poems that was something like: “what would you do if you had no fear?” But most of the responses were distressingly lacking, not just in a particular quality, but in a vision. It was very much the block and Worldstar. So I was like, what does this say about where Philadelphia is going to be in 30 years? And that distressing lack of vision is not the kids’ fault — I didn’t write with the kids, I wrote for them and also in spite of them, in spite of their situation.
I should say that the premise for the libretto was really an answer to their teachers, like: what’s up with your expectations? Because I was given many drafts [of their poetry], and you could see that the difference between the first and third draft was penmanship. When we talk about two-ness and all of these dualities of identity, this is part of the deal as well — that the bar is urgently low. So there is a relationship to young people inscribed within the work, but I would say that there is just as much of a relationship to the people who are supposed to guide them. “Who cries for the brown girl gone missing?”
IR: Somehow that tension of writing against a broken system contributes to the operatic-ness of the piece — and it is an opera in the fullest sense of the word.
MBJ: It’s an opera how we do it, I think. People have said it’s a hip-hopera, it’s a hybrid. No, it’s an opera how we get down in 2017. It’s two kids of immigrants who grew up around hip-hop, and dated certain kinds of women, and did certain kinds of drugs, and read certain kinds of books, and hung out in certain kinds of places. It’s how we do it; it’s fathers.
IR: But what level of reverence or consideration did you have for the form?
MBJ: One of the many things that we have to fight for is honesty with ourselves within the context of conventional form. Because many of us, whether it’s running a company or creating an opera, think: “well, I have to do it the way he would do it. I got hired, but if I do it the way I do it they are going to freak out.” But that’s not how we’ve ever succeeded. Obama presidented the way only he could. The way that Alicia [Garza] and Patrisse [Cullors] and them organize, is very poetic. The intersectional poetics of their resistance is us. So reverence for the form? Respect for the form. Respect for the form, reverence for black people.

Cost Of Education
Sitting in a room that seems to have 50 times the square footage of my entire house, on the 5th row from the top, I can see everyone below me but the last person I pay any attention to is the professor at the bottom. The girl seven rows before me looks like she woke up before the sun, with blonde streaked beach waves falling from her braid, wrapped around her head like a crown. The irony of the girl to her right who looks like she woke up with ten minutes before this class started, wearing a beanie finding her palm to be a perfectly good pillow in the middle of this lecture about the laws against prostitution. I could never be a prostitute I think too much bang for your buck I chuckle out loud at my joke, if I don’t who will? Now I’m distracted by the scent of bad body odor, for a second I’m self-conscience about my own odor and I can’t remember whether I put on deodorant or not but then I notice a guy beside me opened his gym bag to pull out his phone charger (I judge him ever so slightly for having a Samsung, he’s probably super techy). Almost everyone has their laptop out, none of which are actually taking notes, I can see three people playing box head, five people on tumblr and a whopping 14 people just making those blue squares appear on their desktop page. The only reason my lap top is open, is because I’d rather have my hands resting on a key board than the table in front of me. My attention falls back on my professor as he’s pacing back and forth without talking, did he notice no one was listening? Did he ever really think we were listening? Then the short round man pushes up his glasses with a huff and looks at the ground shaking his head as if trying to remember something. My laptop makes the noise notifying me that I got an iMessage. It’s my manager from Starbucks, asking if I can come in early this afternoon at three; it’s already two thirty but if I leave now I can make it. I decide this lecture isn’t more important than an extra two hours on the clock so I pack up and leave.
On a bus that smells like sweat and urine, but I’d rather that than the other thing you do in the washroom. Now picking at my nails making a mental note to get them done after work, whenever I get fake nails no one can even tell because I ask for then to be as short as my real nails, I can’t do my everyday duties with unrealistically long nails. I look out the windows and can see the smog blurring out the hills of northern California, maybe the pollution here is getting out of hand. I watch as a girl who looks like she couldn’t have seen more than thirteen summers light a cigarette and hope her mom doesn’t find out. Finally at my stop, I swing my green and brown backpack around and over one shoulder, trapping most of my hair under my strap; I’m used to it. As I’m standing at the back doors of the bus before they open I look down at my converse and realize my shoe lace is untied. Stepping off the bus I bend down to tie my shoe and my blue jean’s button pops open and my belly button feels free for the first time all day. Quickly fixing the wardrobe malfunction I look up and find my co-worker with his face pressed up against the glass window on the door giving me a creepy yet welcoming smiling. I hit him with an equally as creepy double eyebrow wiggle. I love how silly I can act at this job, and no one will think I’m actually silly, they’ll just think I’m cute and corky.
“That’s cute” Jeff says while holding the door open for me to walk through, “I know” I say back without making eye contact. Jeff is a good looking man who always has the right amount of stubble, hair colour that matches the coffee we make, not quite an afro but pretty curly. His eyebrows thick and unkempt above his hazel coloured eyes, his smile is super cute but he’s such a goof ball that I could only think of him as a little brother. I throw my black t-shirt over my tank top and wrap the apron around my waist. Sara is working today, and she always has positive vibes and makes me appreciate life a little more every time I see her. With her blonde hair below her ears, she greets me with a warm smile that causes her blue eyes to squint a little. She has a tattoo of the solar system, with the sun on her left elbow and all the planets placed on rings circling the center. I couldn’t be happier working with these two.
I’m on a break with Sara and we’re sitting on the wooden deck, she’s sipping a green tea with her legs crosses and I’m having a black coffee. We’re sharing a laugh while reminiscing all the times we purposely pronounce people’s name wrong when I get a text from a woman who works at my other job. She says she won’t be able to make her shift tonight and wants me to take it for her, I debate for a couple second but agree that I can never make too much money in one day so I take her up on her offer. I need to be on stage by ten so I need to make sure Jeff can drive me home fast. All my clothes, or lack thereof, is already in a canvas bag because I’m always on call for my night job.
I get home at 9:45, if I take my bike I can make it in time. “Hey Ella, where yea going, sweetie?” my mother asks, “I promised some friends that I would meet up with them for some drinks.” I respond walking right by her in our crowded kitchen. My mom takes a break from washing the dishes in the huge sink as I back track a couple steps to pick up a couple tangerines. “Why are you in such a rush?” inquiring while wiping her hands, “they are already at the bar, mom, I don’t wanna miss anything.” and I close the door behind me as I enter the garage from our kitchen. I take my fixed-gear bike off the metal hooks on the concrete walls, and I’m off at least 55 miles an hour. I like going fast, it’s dangerous but it blurs everything around me out and does the opposite for my mental space, gives me room to think. I’m thinking about how far I’ve come turn left with my mom, she hasn’t given me shit for a while about going out, that’s just the beauty in growing up turn right I guess. Ok I should be thinking about something more productive. So no school tomorrow speed bump perfect time to get my nails done turn left I’ll ask Alex to come with me, she probably needs a manicure as well. Now I’m turning into a laneway where I enter through a backdoor. The same security guard gives me the same cut eye for bringing my bike in but I don’t trust people on this side of the city.
My bike is resting against the wall and now my regular clothes resting at the bottom of this grey locker. I slip on my pink string-like bottoms, this colour looks a lot better on me when I had a tan. I should plan a day to go to the beach soon, maybe with my mom – I feel like I never hang out with her anymore. As I pull my top over my head that cuts off right under my nipple, Amanda walks into the room. She’s one of my favourite girls who work here, today just keeps getting better and better! “Hey girl!” she says with her southern accent. “Hey Mandy, I didn’t know you were working tonight.” She doesn’t like being called Mandy (says it just doesn’t sound right) but I call her that partly to mess with her; mostly because it adds some innocence to what it sounds like we do here. Without acknowledging the nickname she says, “I didn’t know you were either” then she dropped her leather bag with tassels from her broad shoulder, she was the only girl I knew who could pair that bag with a pair of low cut pale pink cowboy boots and a short jean jacket and still look cool and casual. “Yea, I don’t usually work on Tuesdays, I’m covering Amy’s shift. God knows why she couldn’t make it.” Before responding Amanda already had her floral sun dress on its way over her head. “I know why couldn’t make it too.” She replied while bringing one finger up to her nose, closing nostril with it and sniffing the air, I could only laugh in agreement.
NOW PRESENTING …. CANDI DARLING
I strut out onto the stage, using my best bedrooms eyes and scan over every man in the audience until one man stops me dead in my tracks. My round, bald headed, four eyed Professor.

Universe commentary (ep 14-23)
Well, now that the group is at the doors of the Deep Web and a new arc about is to begin, it’s time to do commentary for another batch of episodes. I think I'll move it to my sideblog.
Up until now every episode that seemed a filler in the beginning, ended giving us something relevant. I cannot say the same about ep 14, except maybe that we got new attacks.
I don’t like the new ending song, but the art is pretty. Although there are some fanservice-y frames. Anyway...I like how it depicts Eri in her full teenage glory. Someone pointed out there could be an ending per main character.
I love those little details that give us insights into the characters like Astra’s calligraphy, Eri crying at the movies or their opposing views about luck.
DID YOU SEE THAT? Rei saved Haru’s life. Just as Haru saved Rei before.
Gatchmon is still pissed at Rei. On the other hand Haru is the peacemaker that just wants to talk. If it wasn’t clear to me before, now I fully see how different Haru and his buddy are.
Finally! Eri and Astra are working together. “Tora” is gonna be their thing and I love it.
Musimon must feel bad. He almost got his partner killed. I’m calling it now: he’s gonna save Eri at some point.
I liked the whole sequence of Leviathan taking over Minerva. When the screen went to black I said “and now appears an L” but it was better, because it started with a red dot and I was like “HAL 9000 oooh″.
The VHS and the old phone were a nice touch.
“Dantemon’s left arm”. Does that mean he’s gonna be like a megazord or digixros?
I think I’ve seen at least 2 instances in which the 7 code silhouettes were different that the actual ones. I’m confused.
Wait. Leviathan is in the Deep Web? I would have thought he was in the Dark Web.
Ok, maybe there’s another set of special appmon they have to collect in order to get to the Dark Web when they reach God grade?
God, I love that Eri and Ai are friends.
The Standard grades fighting without evolving was a nice battle dynamic for a change, unlike what they did to Puzzlemon
Overall, I liked Eri’s episode and her motivations. And the song...thank god they didn’t use the ending. Please tell me there’s gonna be character songs.
What is Montana? I find hilarious that the hand has hands on its own.
Now that we know Haru and Yuujin’s backstory, whatever happens with the latter is gonna be emotional.
If I understand correctly, Haru’s urinating problem stopped the same year he met Yuujin.
Hahaha, Gatchmon is still salty at Rei. I loved that whole interaction. But notice that Rei “I work alone” Katsura called them for help.
Wow, this was one of those touching moments. My mind went directly to Tamers. It also reminded me of the Adventure movie.
Dammit, this is what happens when we don’t have an insert song. They re-use the opening. I mean...wow, the scene was epic, but it’s not the same.
Ah, yes! Attack names in german.
Valentine episode was an interesting case: at first one would assume that there would be a marketed theme, but in the end it was about the “special bond”. Something similar happened with Christmas. They don’t use overly cheesy tropes.
Astra salió calcadito a la mamá jajaja.
How cute...Hackmon dancing in the corner of Entermon’s Data Lab.
Afro guy sure travels a lot. First France, now Hawaii.
It’s weird seeing a super grade in 2D after all this time. Is evident that the series is carefully planned, but they’re starting to show inconsistencies.
Another case may be the 7 code’s power level. According to other materials it’s lower than the regular of their species. I’d like to talk about it, but I don’t have enough on-screen proof. The only one specified was Roleplay with 1500, the rest haven’t been shown. Why? Are they hiding something?
Also, I like that they represent each type of appmon
HOLY SH*T! Oujamon has 95,000 of power. Its even higher than Globemon.
I’ve been wondering why the ultimates have a time limit. With the news of the DUOs, I suppose that the current Applidrives can’t hold so much power.
Christ! When is Eri gonna realize she works for Leviathan company? Hopefully, now Coachmon is gonna tell them.
Rei’s episode had too much telling. Anyway, I’d like to know why Hackmon wants to defeat Leviathan. Give us his backstory. Also, please explain in which situations his flame can appear.
Poor kid, he looks terrible with those eye bags. And he was like “this useless bunch”. That’s why they need him. Come on, join the team soon.
Oh my gooood! I waited 22 episodes for the Applidrive question. And the answer was no. The feels.
TRIPLE HACK.
Fi-na-lly!! They are using the other appmon. I thought Navimon chip had disappeared when the super grade one activated. Like his chip had transformed.
We sacrificed Sakusimon for this? I mean...I don’t like Warudamon’s design, although her despicable personality was awesome.
And who is the mysterious applidriver? Is even a real person? Or just a representation?

‘Widows’ Star Viola Davis Talks LGBTQ Evolution
Viola Davis taps my hand when she really means what she says. Each time the actress reaches over to make contact, the big bar in the big skyscraper in big Chicago where we are sitting diminishes. She has a way of making any space feel intimate.
The first black actor to win an Oscar, Emmy and a Tony for acting, Davis is seated diagonally from me at a larger-than-we-need table more suited for a family’s Thanksgiving gathering than a conversation between two people. She is striking in a baby-blue pantsuit and a gorgeous, billowing afro, owning the space she occupies much like the way she owns the screen, having granted vulnerability and humanity to some of TV, theater and film’s most unforgettable women for three decades.
Her knack for investigating the deepest human depths of her characters is best illustrated in a single scene, as a loving, anguished mother in 2008’s Doubt, her indelible breakthrough. Later, she starred as Aibileen Clark in The Help (she previously played another maid in gay director Todd Haynes’ 2002 film Far From Heaven), and in Suicide Squad and Fences, which won her an Oscar. And as criminal defense attorney Annalise Keating on ABC’s hit drama How to Get Away with Murder, she is a mighty force.
Davis’s signature resilience once again pervades tenacious crime-boss Veronica Rawlins in 12 Years a Slave and in director Steve McQueen’s socially charged action-thriller Widows, notably featuring a lead cast mostly comprised of actresses of color.
After spending the early years of her career not recognizing her power even though we did, Davis, 53, does now, she tells me. The obvious question: “Do gay men feel compelled to bow down to you?” I ask, moments into the candid conversation that awaits us, which has Davis reflecting on how she learned to love the LGBTQ community and why she feels her best role was as a man. Smiling, she lights up and leans back. “You know what, yeah, they do.”
youtube
These badass women doing badass things in a world where sometimes these women are told that they can’t do them…
Absolutely.
How do you explain the connection between these strong women you play and the LGBTQ community?
Because I think the LGBTQ community feels like they’re on the periphery. They feel like they’re not seen, they feel like they’re not worthy, they feel like they’re not valued. And there’s no answer to that, other than the fact that you’re not heterosexual. Really, that’s it. That’s what I think, and I certainly feel the same way, as someone who has been marginalized my entire life. Listen, when I think about myself, I am everything within me. I’ve had boyfriends, people think I’m cute (laughs). I’m funny! I’m telling you, I’m all of those things. And I cannot stand labels. I cannot stand them.
Did you have something to do with Annalise’s sexual fluidity, then?
I had everything to do with that. And so did (creator) Pete Nowak; I can’t leave him out. I really have to give him credit for that too. But yeah, absolutely. And also, I Am Jazz: I was watching that one night. I love that show. But I was watching that one night and (trans TV star and model Jazz Jennings) was playing in the closet with one of her friends who was a trans teenager, and it was just great. They were talking about who they see themselves with in the future, and they were like, “Whoever, you know. I’m open. I’m open to a boy, I’m open to a girl.” And they started talking about just the attributes of the people they wanted to be with.
That transformed me more than anything. I thought, “That is the greatest thing in the world,” and I thought that that was a great idea for Annalise because Annalise is so damaged, so traumatized that what if she just said, “I’m just open to love”? God, think about what we can explore there.
Are you inspired by this generation of young people who identify as sexually fluid?
Totally, with everything. My generation – I always say, “The black and Hispanic people liked disco and the white people liked rock ’n’ roll.” That was my generation. And there was no language for homosexuality – only fear.
Growing up in Rhode Island, what was your introduction to the LGBTQ community?
Hmm… probably through… that’s a difficult question. I’m gonna say this: My friend… shit. This is menopause, ’cause I was just talking about him. Slim! My friend Slim! And I’ll say him, even though it’s more than just him, because I just did have a lot of gay friends. I’m a theater geek!
But my introduction into, especially the gay and the trans community, was Slim. And the reason why I say that is because it challenged even my idea of sexuality, because we were just friends and he had a girlfriend, and then he announced to me that he was gay, and then it went from that to him borrowing my clothes, my dresses. I was like, “Oh, OK! You can borrow my dresses!” So he would take my dresses, and then it went from that to him dropping out of school – and of course we still continued our friendship. And then it went from that to him wearing my makeup.
I just remember going with it, of course, because I loved him. It was my first introduction into a different level of sexuality that no one talked about. He had a group of young men that lived with him who were all trans and he called them his “sons and daughters.” Some were gay, some were trans, some were transvestite, and it was my first introduction into the fluidity of sexuality.
You said this was going to be a difficult question for you to answer, but it wasn’t.
It wasn’t difficult, I know. I guess not.
Was reconciling your Christian upbringing with your acceptance of homosexuality a challenge for you?
I guess it was a little – it was. But I loved him. I have to say I loved him, so I felt it was on me to shift my thinking and it was up to me to understand him. I will say I went with it, but it was my first introduction to understanding it. When I was on Facebook, I did have my Facebook friend Nika (Lomazzo, a trans woman and activist) and she really schooled me. So every day I would go to her site and she would school me and I said, “I’ve been to school; I’m just gonna learn.” She’s a trans woman, so I was schooled (with) just certain language.
The first time you kiss a same-sex love interest played by Famke Janssen – did your mother ever see that episode of How to Get Away with Murder even though you didn’t want her to?
Yep!
You said that you weren’t gonna show it to her.
I didn’t show it to her! She saw it on her own!
And?
She was good with it – because my niece is gay and at 9, 10 years old she told her mom, my sister: “Mom, I like girls,” and my sister said, “OK. Well, are you OK?” She said, “I think I’m fine.” She was like, “OK, well I’m good too.” And that was their conversation.

You starred in one of the most notable queer films ever made: Todd Haynes’ Far From Heaven. How do you reflect on your role in that film?
The maid? I liked that movie. I loved that movie.
And the role?
I mean, the role was a maid. I’m done with the maids. But that was in the beginning of my career. I wasn’t really awoke then – not as awoken as I am.
You recently admitted to having issues with The Help.
Yeah, I did.
Looking back on The Help and Far From Heaven, what has that taught you about the importance of representation for the black and LGBTQ community?
I guess I already knew it then, too, but I never thought that I had any power. I was just happy to have a job. But I think it’s important to be seen, it’s important to see your own images on the screen – and in a way that is honest.
The reason I became an actor, and it’s absolutely the reason why I became an actor: I’m a total nerd and I fell in love with Arthur Miller. He said he wrote to make people feel less alone, and that’s why I do what I do. Seriously, that’s why I do what I do. I seriously do. And so I feel responsible for any image I put out there that makes people feel alone, that makes people feel not seen, that doesn’t show fully who they are – their anger, their pain, their joy, their sexuality. That’s your job as an artist, so yeah, that’s where I’m at right now.
Have you considered the importance of you not just portraying a lesbian but a lesbian of color, a demographic so rarely portrayed on screen, and the impact that could have on the LGBTQ community?
I’ve been offered, I played: God’s Heart with Julie Kavner. We were lesbians. I played a lesbian in King Lear. It was a workshop production (at the Public Theater in New York) and actually the guy who directed it was one of the people who put together Paris Is Burning and he set King Lear in one of the gay (ball-culture) “houses” of the ’90s. And I didn’t do it, because the director told me at the last minute I probably should’ve done it, but he wanted me to compete in those gay house shows. You have to be a man pretending to be a woman or a woman pretending to be a man and the more real you are, that’s a whole competition. It’s about being as real as you can be. To me, that was the best role I’d ever done, by the way. Bar none. TV, film. It was the best role.
Why was your role in King Lear so special to you?
Because I had to play a lesbian who was pretending to be a man and I went home – I am telling you, I said, “I am gonna hit this” (bangs fist against palm). So I felt like I really transformed into a man. I thought it was totally believable! And Nicole Ari Parker was my girlfriend! Every time we see each other, I’m like, (excitedly waves her arms) “Hey!”
I feel like gay men must come up to you all the time and quote Annalise’s iconic line, “Why is your penis on a dead girl’s phone?” Is that line still following you around?
I mean, I don’t know what it is about that line – maybe just ’cause it was so unexpected! So I keep quoting or thinking about Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, because I feel like gay men like that movie too. I love that movie. And there’s a lot of reasons why. I think its Judy Garland too, you know?
Right, a gay icon.
Yeah. You understand why. But also, this is my thing: She keeps talking about going home and wanting to go home, and then in the end the Good Witch tells her (she) had the power to go home all along. I know, even as a black woman, that feeling. I have the power within to be the change I wanna see, to have the life I wanna have; it’s already in me.
People strip us of our worth and the potency of our worth and the potency of our power so much. I see it because… listen, I’m socialized on steroids (laughs). The number of people I meet every day who interview me, who I have to meet at parties and social gatherings, because I’m an actor – one of the things I’ve noticed, ’cause I love looking at different reporters who come in and imagining who they are, who they love, and I love it. And there have been (people) who come in from the LGBTQ community – and now there’s more trans men, trans women reporters, and it’s a “coming out” and stepping into who you are. You gotta love it.
