"Imagine sending a cat to your neighbor and they come back with their literal heart in their hand" -Opsiian
I was doodling and one drawing came out super well, and I decided it was gonna be Spearmaster.
As I colored it I added new things, and now I have this design for them that I quite like!
Doodle & alt. background below the cut!

suns and spears wearing some porcupine quill jewelry! i see elements of indigenous culture misused and disrespected constantly online so i wanted to do something a little silly for myself and other native rain world fans by drawing these two in jewelry inspired by Blackfoot needlework!
i imagine suns was either gifted these pre mass ascension, or maybe was taught a long time ago by an ancient, as is traditional, and eventually made their own earrings using spearmasters needles? who knows! they look stunning though and i would add these to my suns design if they werent so much work to draw

small ramblings about iterator-made scugs
some spoilers and it's kinda long, so page break inbound
soooo this is just something I'm thinking about. I kinda wonder if the purposed beings/iterator-made slugcats look almost like normal slugcats, but... something about them just looks off.
Hear me out, this isn't just about Spearmaster.
I mean- making a living, functional, sentient being must be extremely difficult, since Suns took like 7 attempts just to make Spearmaster, and Sigs rushed the process and gave Hunter rot (from the chats, I'm pretty sure it was by mistake.) As well as this, adding on things must be difficult too, since you need to be careful with how any kind of mutation affects the being's functions, like how Spears has no mouth so they can't become feral, but they compensate by having porcupine-like needles they can use as a pseudo esophagus, as well as being sharp enough to penetrate and use as a weapon.
You get the idea, it's difficult to make a creature from scratch. I'd like to imagine that unless they try to go as accurate as possible, the iterators could take some liberties to change them slightly, like if there is a certain part of the being that doesn't serve any evolutionary purpose, that the creator doesn't see a need for, or that the creator wants to change/improve for whatever reason. That might be better or at least different for the resulting creature to live with, but removing/changing the trait(s) would most likely make them look really weird.
so uhh...
tl;dr purposed organisms would look strange if their creator didn't care about accuracy and took liberties to change/improve the resulting beings. That's probably not a theory everyone might agree with (open to discussion), but that's how I'm drawing purposed organisms now.

spearmaster!!
some headcanons under the cut
long and lanky because long and lanky
i think i've seen similar headcanons but their spears are made of keratin, this goes for the bristly furs on their back as well. porcupine style
white circles of keratin-ish where the spears protrude out
when stressed, the processes involved in producing keratin are heightened, so that they can make more spears in the face of danger
it also results in them getting extra spiky and/or sprouting white plates of keratin in different places on their body
it takes some cycles for the excess keratin to break off and it always leaves some scarring unlike their spears, which annoys them a lot
sometimes they don't break off at all...and the last time it happened isn't something they like to think about

These little guys consume my every waking moment.
Its the Fnf crew but as Scugs(SlugCats)!
Blue is Rivulet, a canon Scug known for its ADHD and ability to hold its breath for longer (fur pattern based off of a river otter)
Sophie is Nomad, a fanon Scug that is basically a glorified sugar glider (fur pattern based off of a Fennec Fox)
Pico is Artificer, another canon Scug that can explode on command because B O M B S (fur pattern based off of a weasel)
Nene is SpearMaster, a canon Scug that can pull spears from its ass because yes (fur pattern based off of a porcupine)
and Darnell is an Arbiter, another fanon Scug that is essentially a glorified snake (I basically just recolored the OG Arbiter because I already really liked the OG design)
Both the Nomad and the Arbiter come from Daszombes' The Deadlands concept campaign video.

how about spearmaster's design then? remember at one point they had a mouth... wonder which point in development did they lose it?
spearmaster had a mouth pre 1.5 MSC demo, but it was before they were even the spearmaster we knew today.
the idea of spearmaster not having a mouth came at the same time the rest of their design did - but at the time i wasnt good at drawing expressions without a mouth and i would do expression practice on SM with a mouth (which is why there was some off model art in applebread streams lol)
spearmaster himself came from two concepts - the idea of being a dangerous predator that can immobilize creatures with ease, and the idea of being based on an existing RW creature. spearmaster was originally going to be a new design based on spitter spiders, but then i got the idea of the fact noodlefly mamas can turn their mouths from soft tissue into incredibly firm and sharp needles - something that could theoretically fix the issue spearmaster had of being too close to hunter.
then it was "well let's make it how you feed" because we thought about blood sucking mosquitos. the tail motif comes because i thought about porcupines, and it originally went up his whole back as well!

Hi! Spearmaster is my favorite slugcat! I wanted to ask, were there any inspirations for their design??
They're inspired off of porcupines and needleflies! (And the stringy bits from spitter spiders.) We thought about how needleflies can turn a soft tissue into one that's extremely tough and able to stab super well - the rest is history lol
