deeply resentful of tutorials that leave you feeling like you need to go look up at least 2 other tutorials to figure out where you're starting from before they've even gotten to what the tutorial is For btw. like yeah okay this looks nice but its needlessly complicated and you've just had to spend 10 minutes explaining why you aren't going to explain all of it in this video. brother what is the Point.

website update log #19 (December 12th, 2023)
while i was trying to figure out how to give this site personality, i took the time to learn javascript.
so i learned how to declare constants and variables, execute if and else statements, define functions, and some other things as well like finding and replacing classes with className, setting css variables with setProperty, and adding and replacing parameter stuffs.
with this information i have accumulated, i finally figured out how to do whatever this is:
i finally figured out how to make the dark mode switch work!!!
and to make sure that the dark mode doesn't reset itself when refreshed, I added a URL parameter that checks if dark is true or not :D
Tumblr media
and that's basically it for the changes I made today :sob:
yknow, when i was trying to code the dark mode switch, i realized that i was struggling so hard on what the home page itself should look like so I didn't really make progress on it.
i was never really satisfied with the three index.html pages that I have made and I don't really think this one will be any different, but it doesn't really hurt to try new things

this website has gone through 3 redesigns now (including the one I'm working on rn), and that's just because I can never be satisfied with what my page is going to look, so I just end up changing the whole site every 3 months which is really hard to do but I still don't like the final result.
(the second redesign (the one with the TV and the grids) hasn't even been completed yet and yet i am still dissatisfied with the way it looks)
i just can't make up my mind lol

Hellooooooo, says I while I rise from my cave, it's me, that gal that posts once every 7 months lol
So, I've been busy - not much in art but you know my job now is that I make websites so I guess I'm going to show you ! I am currently working on my portfolio, this is one version, I am making another one with Wordpress on which I'll put a blog and a shop as well, as I am thinking about leaving Etsy. So here is the bootstrap version (no custom javascript on it because we're just learning to do this at the moment): http://clementine.defiweb34.com/site-portfolio/
And here are some of the websites I've been working on: https://www.lp-store.fr/ - actual store I've made with my coworker for our internship The rest is mostly exercices like those two: http://clementine.defiweb34.com/exo-3_site-soins-v2/ http://clementine.defiweb34.com/eval-mogi/
And art wise, I've not been doing much because I am still having some serious executive dysfunction and it's just hard altogether - in my job it's actually easier because I have incentive, you know what I mean - for the store website I did I've made one illustration I am quite proud of. It's not really my usual style but it looks fun and I like it a lot:

Also I still do a lot of quick sketches, I'll show some of em but rn I'm supposed to work actually :o)
And on a more personal note I have been diagnosed with ADHD (and been denied autism diag because they basically decided I talked too well 🙃 - and I received a report from the specialists tm being 99% inaccurate recollection of stuff they think I've said (I've written a 8 pages doc for my psychiatrist to list everything they misunderstood & interpreted wrong which is what they based their diagnosis on). I'm tired x) (hence why I'm not trying to get a diag again for now, I'm too tired).

So to expand generally on the hard to find jobs thing, (cause i didn't know that's why you asked those questions), we're not only in an economic recession so companies are less likely to expand and hire, we're also coming down from the crazy remote hiring spree of COVID, so times are kinda bad rn if you're trying to find a job as a junior. But theoretically, unless AI actually gets in a position to start eating programmer jobs, this will probably improve. You can only try looking for seniors for so long until you get desperate and try hiring people with less experience.
You also asked about bootcamps. I've gotten my first job relying almost entirely on things i've learned by myself through doing so much random bullshit in programming. I'd imagine bootcamps might make the path easier, but if money is a big issue than you're absolutely fine learning on your own. There are *so* many online resources it's crazy.
So, basically i'd recommend trying to first do some tutorial for basic html, javascript (it's commonly shortened as JS) and css. Mozilla (the people who make Firefox among other things, they're a big player in the web space) has a lovely tutorial. If you follow all the tutorials there it should give you a good basic understanding of the basics of web dev. Once you have that, try building a buncha projects, feel free to look up shit, steal code, whatever just get shit done however you can.
Then if you have a bit of confidence, try looking around youtube for what's cool in web dev these days. A recommendation is Fireship, I found him to make easily digestible, short form videos about all that's going in web dev, so it should make it easier to figure out what framework you wanna start getting into. Most of the frameworks have really good tutorials on their own website for teaching you how to use them. You're fine to start learning almost any major/popular framework, because many job postings accept experience in other frameworks as well. Though the most popular are for sure: React and Angular.
After you've got a framework under your belt start making projects that look great. They are soo useful for actually getting hired. They are concrete proof of your abilities and also show that you put in the work, plus you learn a lot during building them. Projects are kind of the closest you can get to having job experience before getting hired, so they're sooo useful as a beginner.
Well anyhow, I take a lot of pleasure from answering these questions, and i'm glad any time i see someone trying to get into programming.
Can you get a job with just html, css and Java? Basically just as a front end developer ? With square space, Shopify, and WordPress does this take away a lot of need for front end developers?
Also with ai becoming more prominent is it "useless" to just have front end experience and are more companies wanting more people with back end experience?
