Okay hi can i just pls throw out this idea i have in my head because i have literally zero friends to talk about malec with and i love your blog fhksghs but anyway i have this headcanon that alec is autistic because like, he's kind of stiff in his movements and he's straight to the point matter of fact but he's so very very empathetic and he feels so much and maybe he's been masking his entire life because his way of being is "Wrong" (and on top of that he gay) and people beside his siblings (1)
don't really get him and honestly the fact that he doesn't always find the words to express himself especially when he's scared and upset makes sense and maybe with the masking thing the only way of stimming he's ever allowed himself is that jerky lil hand shake thing he does or the pinching of the skin between his fingers. also!! im thinking that's why he's so good at archery and not AS good at hand to hand combat because archery doesn't take as much coordination and he noticed it was easy for him so he kind of hyperfixated on it as a kid and it never really left and it makes sense with the self harm thing. it's so common for autistic kids to take out their frustrations and sadness on themselves and if alec doesn't allow himself to stim that jittery energy might just turn into frustration and anger he doesn't understand or know what to do with so causing pain to get it out becomes the only way he knows how to cope. anyway THE POINT i'm trying to make is i've kind of adopted the headcanon that magnus has adhd as well so he kind of complements alec where he struggles and the other way around and as they get to know each other they kind of start finding new ways of coping together and allowing themselves to be exactly as they are with each other. alec finds ways to stop masking and starts to come to terms with who he is and what he's like because he's never really identified with anything but his masked persona and magnus finally has someone who understands him
also i get that like... this headcanon is not new at all. i just haven't seen it being discussed a lot just like magnus having adhd is something i came across like two days ago so idk how big that headcanon is but yeah snglbghk sorry for taking up so much space i guess im a lil fixated hehe thank you for your time
okay, first of all i just want to say that i’m thrilled that you wanted to share this with me, specifically, especially since this is clearly meaningful and important to you. and don’t apologize, i love getting ranty asks tbh, they are the best dajsaijdadja
for the hc! i totally agree with you on autistic alec, that’s not an uncommon hc because yeah he does have like... a lot of autistic traits lmao (altho there’s a lot of hm. gross ableist content involving this. but anyway) like i’ve been talking recently on here about alec’s honesty and his complete unwillingness and even unability to understand like, mind games and flirting and such and how that draws magnus in, and i definitely think that is directly connected to his autism. like the whole throwing hints and innuendos and flirting ;) ;) just doesn’t fucking make sense to him and he’s very in contact with his feelings and why would he not? be direct about them? you know? and magnus has had to basically teach himself to be able to do that (because well autism and adhd overlap and he’s probably had to struggle a lot to pick on social cues too, and learn these little tricks. this also probably has to do with the personality that he chose for himself, like, that whole over exaggerated over the top kind of careless thing, because then he can pass off his rambley tendencies and other ADHD traits as just... him being careless, i guess. so he lays it particularly thick so that the parts that are actually there - his tendencies to ramble and hyperfocus, lack of attention, sometimes unawareness of social cues - end up less visible under the veil of his exaggerated persona) and it’s so damn good. and important. to not have to. to be basically forced not to. because alec doesn’t engage in those. he’s completely honest. and he offers magnus a space where he can be, too
and i just duahdsiuahda love autistic/adhd solidarity malec (and also autistic/adhd solidarity mag&raph but that’s another topic. lêx shut the fuck up about raphael challenge. actually send me asks about autistic raphael pls yall). especially because like i said. magnus has had a lot of time to learn how to mask his ADHD traits! but it’s exhausting, and god it feels so good and he’s so fucking happy that he gets to stim, and ramble, and just be himself with alec
even if it definitely takes him a while. i think longer than it takes alec. because alec 1- is not as good as magnus at hiding it, and 2- sees no reason to hide them from magnus, because once he trusts, he trusts, and he’s all in. i think what would take alec the longest would be to stim - because he’s so used to suppressing those it’s almost second nature - but stimming is exactly the one thing that magnus still kind of allows himself. especially with magic, you see the way he’s always conjuring up little balls, doing sparks with his hands, rubbing his fingers together, etc etc etc. and alec picks up on that, the ways that he stims subtly and without hurting himself and maybe starts doing it too. we even get to see him rubbing his fingers in a similar way that magnus does sometimes, after they meet, and i think that might be the beginning of that process
so that definitely applies to what you said about them helping each other out with their greatest difficulties! like magnus is most uncomfortable letting go of hiding his traits, and alec is most uncomfortable with stimming, and they slowly- well, not coax each other into it, but walk that path together, especially as they also walk their career paths and earn more respect and space, and their relationship path and learn to be more open and earnest with each other and work together. you know? magnus sees that alec keeps picking at his own skin and hands, and he’s like... all lovingly healing him, and telling him that he should stop hurting himself, and alec tells him that it’s just. that he feels like the world is so sharp, sometimes, and he just has all that energy, and he doesn’t know how to let it out, and it’s too much, but he doesn’t know what to do with it, so he just. picks at his skin. and magnus looks up at him, brows a little furrowed, a little in shock and also. a good kind of surprise because he understands? and he’s happy that someone else understands? and that he can help with this?
and so magnus is like “i feel like that a lot, too. having magic helps, but well, there are other things i do” and then he tells alec about how he rubs his fingers together instead of picking at the skin and how he taps them and does the little wrist shaking thing and how that helps. and alec starts to figure out other ways to stim that work for him and don’t hurt him. magnus also tells him about jewelry and how that helps, having stuff to fidget with/focus on, and well alec is not big on jewelry but maybe he starts wearing a chain under his shirt, and there’s always the wedding band :) which we already see him fiddling with a lot in canon anyway so i definitely think it serves the same purpose for him as magnus’ jewelry do magnus. plus, it’s grounding and reminds him of them, which is also a bonus
and then there’s also everything we see in canon, about alec just. wanting magnus to be exactly himself and telling him that? seeing the way magnus is tapping his foot and then stops when he approaches, and he’s like “you can keep going,” or the way that he sometimes approaches magnus and is all like “i can tell you’re thinking too hard about this conversation. i don’t want you to say anything but what you feel. it’s okay” and magnus slowly relaxes and allows himself. or when he catches himself mid rant about his hyperfixation and he feels ashamed but he turns to alec, about to apologize because he just started talking way too much and way too fast about fucking wormholes and astrophysics again and alec is probably bored- but he turns and alec is staring at him with his usual, open adoration that always takes his breath away, and alec is like “no, i love hearing you talk” because even if he doesn’t understand what magnus is talking about, he loves how excited he is and to see him happy. plus his voice is so nice and pretty and just hmmm very good for the senses you know, like it’s just nice to focus on. so magnus does that little half smile of his, super pleased, and keeps talking, except this time gesticulating even more wildly and like flapping and going into detail without holding back, and he’s just so happy, and alec is so happy, and so in love with him duaudsaa
also them being sensorial heaven for each other :) alec wanting to hold magnus after he’s had A Day, and he just wraps himself around him and buries his face on his neck and feels his presence there, you know, focuses on him and his touch and hair and nice clothes (magnus picks clothes pretty much based on texture because he can’t stand some, and others, like silk, are just perfect so he has a bunch of those, and alec likes the same textures too so that’s great) and stops focusing on other noises and light and other things that might be giving him a bit of overload, you know? but also he doesn’t feel like, trapped, so it’s great. while magnus is enveloped in his arms and having all that stimuli from alec touching him and again he can laser focus on that and feel like his brain calms down a little. and it’s perfect for them both. sensory healing cuddles. perfect
and when either of them feels like having their space or not touching because Too Much, that’s okay too, because they both 1- understand, and 2- are mindful of each other’s space always. magnus especially, we see how he’s very careful with getting into other ppl’s and particularly alec’s space, and alec appreciates it because he never feels invaded. but he also learns when magnus needs space, be it alone or just a broad space to Flap Around in, and he always gives him that when he needs it, and magnus is so grateful for that. and it’s just duaihdsiahdasidaihahdah god i fucking love adhd/autistic solidarity malec thank u for coming to my ted talk

12 & 20!
12. Is nature sensory heaven or a sensory nightmare for you?
sensory heaven... it fills me with such peace and i think “God made all this”. i’m also pagan and my specific workings deal with herbal magic a lot... i am very obsessed with magical symbolism of plants and things and cultural symbolism in general. i also like trying to identify plants but i’m not very good at it lol.
i can identify an opium poppy from other poppies though like you wouldn’t believe because... well of course lmao
20. What would be in your dream sensory room or space?
i’ve never thought about it but i guess there’s two things because i’m contradictory:
1. a 60s styled house and room
2. not to be like everyone else but i actually love minimalism and i did before it really became The Thing... i just can get overwhelmed visually
but i don’t like TOO much minimalism and i like splashes of colour and design and i collect things so there’d be collections neatly displayed everywhere and framed posters and vinyl records (i do have framed vinyl records in my room!)
the room would have an amazing stereo system with a TV connected to my phone so i can listen to music (my living room actually has this lol)
headphones always at the ready so i can listen to music that way too
many pill bottles to shake because i like the sound of rattling pills and i can often identify what type of pill it is and the size from the rattling... nothing is more comforting than when i’m sitting at my pharmacy and it’s quiet and i can hear them pouring the pills out and putting them into bottles...
blankets with rough textures... i don’t like soft things
plants to look at like flowers and ferns especially
one of those things that projects stars on your ceiling and walls so i can lie on my bed and stare at it and think and fantasize
this is probably weird and i’m sure there’s something else lol

1, 2, and 12!
1. What does your sensory haven look like and what does it include?
ok... the Ideal sensory zone for me is like. actually a hundred different zones bc i have very contradictory needs (as most ppl do lol), so I’ll just answer for if i could completely customize my bedroom to be a sensory haven. step one is i have to live somewhere quiet. little to no street noises, no other people yelling or playing loud music or whatever. step two is a window to the outside (i do not currently have this in my room lol) but also curtains that block out light so i can choose if i want to stare out the window or not (plus a lil seating thing so i could comfortably stare out the window). I’d have either a dimmer or like. fairy lights. anything that would get me like. ambient light lol. a comfy bed with soft sheets/blankets, my stuffed toys. something for Pressure (i guess a weighted blanket but I’ve never used one. i do lay an ankle weight over my forehead a lot tho). uhhh what else. SCENTED CANDLES. gotta have the Smells. comfortable sleep headphones. and then all my stim stuff (chew necklaces, my glitter bottles, fidget cube, etc.)
2. How do you like your blankets (many, none, texture, etc.)?
i like to have One blanket. If i must, I will use two to be warm. It’s mostly bc i find it annoying that they’re two separate things and that they move around and stuff. I dont like comforters but mostly bc i don’t like duvet covers (thats what they’re called right?) for the same reason. comforters always slide around in those things and its just annoying. as for texture i like them very soft. my current blanket that i’ve had for a couple years now is like. the best i’ve ever had. it’s a polartec microfleece or something like that? so soft so good.
12. Is nature sensory heaven or a sensory nightmare for you?
I mean. “nature” is such a broad category. for the most part, it’s sensory heaven. but that’s like. True Nature (empty hiking trails, forests, etc.). beaches are a no but mostly bc i hate the sun. i actually like rocks and sand and water and all that so like. empty, rocky beaches in like. fall? early spring? excellent. Esp lake beaches. i was one of those kids tho that would just go to a less populated part of the park and sit in the grass and touch the trees and plants and be completely entertained and happy all by myself for hours. honestly i could still do that lmao

I know I said I’d do this I think yesterday but it just did not happen
SO I’m super excited because my @stimtastic order is here, and I’ve had a couple of days to use my new (and first, both buying stim toys, specifically for stimming at least, and my first time buying from stimtastic) toys. first I have to say, stimtastic is a fantastic company, they have great items, they’re quite reasonably priced, and my order arrived very quickly. I am forever grateful 💕
Now onto the toys! From left to right:
1. Chewable Blossom Pendant Necklace in Peach, $4.50 - this was the toy I was most excited about, and it turns out my excitement was appropriate; I can’t keep this thing out of my mouth. it’s perfect for just wearing around the house to chew while doing mundane things like cleaning, and also to de-stress after an overwhelming day. it keeps my mouth busy so I’m not biting on myself. I had trouble with it messing with my gag reflex at first for some reason (even though it was nowhere beyond my front teeth) but it’s perfectly fine now. one of the main reasons I bought it was for hands-free stimming while driving, especially in stressful situations such as road work, unfamiliar places, long drives, and highways. I got the chance to test it in that environment while driving around Reno and on the Reno freeway, including the spaghetti bowl, and I’m happy to report it works quite well for that purpose. I also would like to take it with me to classes next fall, but I am admittedly self conscious about this particular stim in public, so we’ll see how it goes and how other people react at that time. even if I don’t wear it in class, it’ll be great for driving on the highway to get to the campus.
2. Silicone Brush in Bright Pink, $1.75 - I. Love. This. Toy. like seriously, I never want it out of my hands. I always like feeling silicone pads/brushes in stores, but I wasn’t aware I would love it this much. I also love the noise that running my fingers over the bristles makes. I use it all the time at home, just laying around the house or to help come down from sensory-intense or overwhelming experience. I had initially been planning on using this in classes next semester, but for one, it’s a bit bigger than I anticipated, and also, I’m afraid the noise it makes might be too distracting for others. chilling between classes though? hell yeah!
3. Silicone Straw in Pink, $1.25 - I do just wanna start this off by saying I haven’t used this much yet. that said, as someone who loves chewing on straws, I have tested it’s chewing capabilities and this straw is like... straw-chewing heaven. it is on the short side, though, so be warned, it probably will be too short to use in most cups from fast food places/other outside eateries and things like reusable water bottles (in 16oz disposable bottles, it’s just the right length to keep in the bottle with the lid on, tho!) it’s fine in most drinking glasses and mugs. I love the carrying case and travel cleaning brush as well- it even has a little loop that you could use to attach to a bag strap or keychain or something. it also at the very least makes me feel better about my plastic output, even if in all reality it has next to no environmental effect, I like trying to help the planet, and if you aren’t inhibited in not wanting to use/being unable to use for any reason (and any reason is valid! my goal here is NOT to shame people who use plastic straws, especially since I often use them myself), this is a low-price but high quality (and chewy!) option for switching to reusable straws.
4. Pearlescent Glitter Water Wiggler in Pink, $2.00 - first of all, I just want to say I love that the name sort of rhymes. moreover, I was actually surprised by how much I ended up liking this toy. obviously I thought I would like it before buying, given that I did, in fact, buy, but it was even better than I thought it would be. my favorite way to stim with this toy is visually, by either shaking it or turning it over. the glittery swirls are super pretty and very calming- it’s the perfect way to relax or come down after a long day or stressful event. it is, however, also good for squishing (careful though, it’s liable to slip out of your hands lol) and I guess you could call it pressure stimming kind of? like tilting it side to side and feeling the weight shift. I absolutely recommend trying that. (just a quick note, according to stimtastic’s website, this product is only available until the Fall, so if you want one, get it now!)
5. Stretchy Squishy Paw Print, $1.00 - just a quick heads up before I give my review type thing, this toy is definitely on the sticky side, and is even almost, like, gooey, so if that’s not a good texture for you, I don’t really recommend it. for me, however, it’s fine, because I don’t mind that texture. it’s very very squishy, so one of the things I like to do is squish it in my fist. it also obviously has the pads texture of the paw print, but also a smooth side if you like the smoothness. I like running my thumb over the textures parts of the paw as I squish it. it’s also definitely stretchy, but I’m paranoid about stretching it too far and breaking it lmao so I don’t stretch it that much. it is on the small side, probably about an inch, inch and a half across on all sides, which for me is a plus, because it makes it very easy to take places and just have it in my hand, and also is good for more discreet stimming if you want/need that. it will definitely be going to classes with me. it’s also of course very cute.
6. Mermaid Sequin Stim Toy Bag in Pink/Silver, $3.00 - okay, I’ll be the first to admit, I’m OBSESSED with mermaid/reversible sequins (hello all the people in stores looking at me weirdly for standing and petting whatever has them on it), so when I saw this bag while looking for a bag to keep my stim toys in on-the-go, I was in love. the feeling of running my hands over and flipping the sequins, the noise of that and also just running my fingers one way over the sequins, and watching the light refract off of the sequins when tilting the bag is just perfection. it’s not huge, but I did manage to get all of the objects shown here inside with the zipper all the way closed. the zipper also goes around two of the sides, so you can just unzip the short side to put something smaller in, or you can unzip it all the way around the short and long side to put something larger (like the silicone brush in my case) in with ease.
All in all, a very pleasing purchase, and I will definitely be buying again (next on my list is the plush unicorn squishy in pink, the owl chewy in pink, and the infinite rings fidget in rose, but those will have to wait until after I pay for my summer class lol). I also told my mom, who is a special ed teacher, about them, and she’s thinking about buying her students some stim toys from them for next year.

Are you a mean drunk? >> Not unless I also happen to have sensory overload or something else that overrides my ability to be sanguine.
Do you listen to a lot of mainstream music? >> Sure, I suppose. To be honest, I’m not sure what qualifies as “mainstream” anymore; I feel like it used to be a lot easier to make that divide.

Do you have dirty pictures in your phone? >> No.

Do you like hippie jewlery? >> Uh.
Have you ever used the word "groovy"? >> Probably.

Because some doctrine says that if you’ve ever at all said the words “I accept Christ as lord and saviour”, then you’re perma-covered like some divinely good health insurance, and all your sins past present and future are forgiven and so on. And I did say those words as a child, because I was raised Christian... so even though I don’t consider myself Christian now, I wonder if there’s like a “no-takebacksies” kind of thing going on and St Peter would have to let me in the pearly gates regardless because of what I said when I was like eight. Or maybe another sect is right, and I’m going to Hell because [I’m a heathen/I’m queer/I don’t go to church/I say “goddamn” and “fuck” a lot]. Seems to me like it’s a crapshoot regardless.

Are your nails currently painted pink or purple? >> No.

What's a song that will always give you the chills? >> I don’t know.
Have you had any major tragedies in your life? >> No.
What do you think of open casket funerals? >> I think they’re creepy as all hell-- not the “looking at a dead body” part, that makes sense to me, it’s just the painting-up of the dead body so they look... like they’re sleeping??? How does that help? I thought the point of viewing the body was to come to terms with the fact that said person is in fact dead and aid the grieving process. What purpose does the makeup serve? (I’m not terribly fond of the funeral industry in general, if that’s any indication.)
Are you bad at spelling? >> No.
Have you ever had a pet rat? >> No.

Do you want a cigarette right now? >> Nope.
Can you shake your ass? >> A bit.
Do you know someone named Dick? >> No.
Do you have a childish sense of humor? >> I don’t think so? I mean, maybe. I would laugh at silly things kids laugh at, but I don’t think that makes my humour childish, per se.

For the ask game: 12, 18.
-AE
thanks for the ask alex! id love to tell you-
12 -- SENSORY HEAVEN. you know me pretty well, you know how i love to talk about nature lmao. being in nature, walking around in dirt or grass or even like concrete, i like the sound my shoes make against the ground. the air around me is always breezy but warm. i love the texture of treebark and rose thorns too. and looking up at the sky! and the noises, theyre not so loud. theyre quiet, and every time i can hear just bugs and birds and its so nice.
14 -- CRAZY AARONS PUTTY i dont know what it is about this brand but its like crack. every other brand of putty ive ever gotten the texture has bothered me, or the smell. but literally crazy aarons putty has no scent (unless you buy the scented ones) and it doesnt stick to my hands or anything. idk if its a fidget toy/stim toy and if it isnt like sorry but yeah its my favourite. i literally have a collected on my desk and it helps in sensory overloads, panic attacks, and generally it just helps me focus better. i also really like bracelets :)) sliding the beads in calming
