@huntalie. . . liked for a starter.
life had stopped making sense to laura lee the moment their plane plummeted from the sky. glimpses, maybe, here and there, shapes in her periphery, but by the second plane raining fire and brimstone upon them, she'd only kept on falling. head over heels far after she'd already hit the water. o thou of little faith. wherefore didst thou doubt ? maybe it was the moment you let us fucking sink. and yet, there is no other word for it but faith, this hellfire reflection in her eye. it devours the cabin, their home, like a lion, leaving nothing but skin and bone to pick through, blacker than black. at least it's warm. it'll be warmer in hell, something certain in her whispers, a root taking hold. a certainty of the un - seen, made seen before their very eyes. faith. the only thing that's made sense to her since the moment their plane plummeted from the sky ; this is judgment. righteous, holy fire for the blasphemers.
but the innocent were always damned with the guilty. firstborns swallowed in the plague. travis didn't deserve to lose his only home now that his brother was dead. lottie didn't deserve it either, akilah, gen, melissa, natalie. they were already suffering, half frozen, half starved, half dead. what more could it want from them, what more could it take ? what more could they give ? a home. their only home, for their only meal. maybe it was a fair trade after all. but no. no, it's only fair the taste of javi is forever turned to ash in their mouths, but not for all of them. travis, natalie— natalie tried. she was going to feed them all, despite lottie's offering, despite their heresy against it, she was going to feed them. heed the altar call and lie down upon it, and now look at her. ram in the thicket made archangel, forged in fire to light their path forward, chosen by the cards, the wilderness, lottie. who was laura lee to question it ?
so she doesn't. she has faith in lottie, and lottie put her faith in natalie. and god saw the light, that it was good : and god divided the light from the darkness. laura lee knows this, if nothing else : natalie is good. and because she's good, she will doubt herself, just as lottie did, and this is why they're good, why they're chosen. their home is in each other. “   you're not alone in this,   ” she whispers, fierce, forcing the glow in her gaze to shine on natalie's. what a way to start a reign. but light will always shine brighter in the dark. “   have faith in lottie. in yourself. we've made it this far.   ” what more could they lose ? where could they go now but up, after they'd already walked through the gates of hell ? doesn't that depend on which way you're going : out, or further in ? “   you got us this far.   ” not only your skill, but your kindness, “   you've been a faithful servant, natalie. now it's our turn. we just have to give it. . . more of the same.   ” here, cold hands find another's, slow, wary as an animal, but holding tight. “   more faith in it. trust, in each other.   ”

Could you write your head canons for what dating Lottie would be like? Sorry it’s basic this is my first time requesting 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᡣ𐭩 •。 ꪆৎ ˚ ⋅ dating lottie matthews hcs
cw: nsfw at the bottom, blood
when your relationship is just starting out, i think lottie would be extremely shy or reserved
i don’t think she has a lottttt of experience (compared to say jackie or nat), and she’s always kept to herself more, so she’d be extra cautious about not messing this up or making you uncomfortable in anyway
trusts you with the “weirder” sides of herself that she’s usually too embarrassed to show around others and you only love her even more for it
she’s so cute WAAAJSHAHSKFHAGJ
will do the pinky thing when she wants to hold your hand where she just lightly pokes your hand with it before you just full on take her hand in yours 😭😭
“lottie, we’re already dating. you can hold my hand.” “i just— i wasnt sure!” she defends herself while grinning, taking your hand in hers
her main love language is definitely gift giving!! she’ll gladly shower you in gifts and presents everyday if she knew it would make you happy
if you mention in passing about an expensive pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing for a while now or a funko pop of one of ur faves just dropped, expect to see it nicely wrapped in a bow on your bed by the next day <3
expect her to go ALL OUT for valentine’s day, christmas and your birthday in terms of surprising you with presents and parties.
matching halloween costumes are also on the agenda
cannot cook to save her life this point should just be canon (will try to cook breakfast in bed for you and fail miserably)
sleepovers at her house after soccer practice!!! you’d sit on the bleachers and watch her during practice with heart eyes like those cheesy high school movies while you wait for her
so. many. forehead kisses. (that height difference mmm)
light sleeper — (esp pre-dating) frequently wakes up in the middle of the night and has trouble falling asleep. your presence alone has been such a help,, she’ll have an arm wrapped around your waist or fall asleep tucked into the crook between your neck and shoulder while u play with her hair > <
but the second you crawl up to pee in the middle of the night you come back and see her awake and staring back at you all groggy and pouty hhjshdjehs
asks nat how to create a mixtape just so she can create one for you with all the songs that remind her of you
slips you those stupid post-its in class with the checkboxes that are like
“ hey.. i think ur pretty cute :) date tn? ▢ yes!! ♡ ▢ no :( ”
even though it’s been like a good few months into your rs
⚠️ — nsfw
secretly a freak but wbk… let’s be honest here!!!!
loves whispering the filthiest things in your ear when you guys are out with your friends just to see you get all worked up and flustered
that paired with her evil grinnn oh when her fangs poke out MMMMNNCMSBV i’m going insane
speaking of fangs… biting your lip/neck until she draws blood (vampire!lottie you will always be famous)
sooo whiny. non stop whimpering. even draws them out because she knows how much hearing her turns you on
needs to build some confidence around you and get over that embarrassed start but could definitelyy be the dom one if she wanted
sleepy sex is her favourite >_< waking up to two of her fingers already inside you as she greets you with a drawled “good morning babyy” and a chaste kiss as she adds a third finger in

you're always gonna be mine
summary: You're starting to hate when people talk to you at parties. It always seems to get you in trouble with your girlfriend, Shauna Shipman. She always gets so rough with you when she's feeling possessive. Not, of course, that you particularly minded. A/N: Smut fic if it isn't obvious. this is very similar to a previous fic of mine, yes. i'm going through a phase.
You hum quietly in understanding, hoping Lottie will take the hint and just leave you alone soon. You'd much rather be hanging out with Shauna, but you've been left to your own devices after Jackie dragged her off by the hand the second you'd stepped foot in the party. Jackie had said something about introducing her to some people, but you think Jackie just wanted to steal Shauna away from you for a bit. You couldn't blame her for it: you’d steal Shauna away from her in a heartbeat if it would get you away from this conversation.
You like Lottie, she’s nice enough– well, maybe nice wasn’t exactly the right word for it. You didn’t particularly mind talking to her most of the time, but you’d had much higher hopes for tonight than your unfortunate reality. Every time you’d tried to walk away she had just sidestepped onto another topic, acting as if she couldn’t obviously see how anxious you were to get out of the conversation.
Lottie laughed suddenly as she grabbed at your arm, using you for support as she stumbled forward. Your eyes narrow in confusion at the motion, trying to remember if you’d actually said something. You certainly hadn’t thought so, but you’d been drifting in and out of thought for quite a while.
It was about this time you noticed the way she kept clearly glancing over your shoulder to see if someone else was watching. You glance behind you with a roll of your eyes to see Nat fuming from a far-off corner, turning back to tell Lottie off just in time to catch yourself as you're suddenly yanked away by your wrist. You stumble forward into a fuming Shauna, a wry smile wiped off your face in an instant at the quiet fury in her expression.
Oh, you’ve really gone and done it now. It wasn’t fair. This wasn’t even your fault. Still, you knew better than to try talking her down as she pulled you away with an ever-tightening grip on your wrist. You wince at the sensation, almost positive that it’s going to be a nasty-looking bruise by the time she’s done.
You pass by Jackie on the way out, an unreadable expression on her face as she nods at you over her cup. She glances away to look at someone else, leaving you to your fate with an irate Shauna.
“Shauna,” You try weakly as you get to the car, but she just shakes her head stiffly as she angrily opens the passenger side door. You sigh as you slide into the seat, buckling your seat belt as she shuts the door with a surprising gentleness. She sits down in the driver's seat, resting her head on the steering wheel for a long moment as she tries to calm down.
Judging by the stormy expression on her face when she finally starts the car you don’t think it was that effective.
Fuck.
“Shauna, please,” You gasp as you pull away, desperately sucking in air before she rolls her eyes and digs her heel into your back. You whine quietly to show your displeasure as she tightens her grip on your hair, her fingers pressing into the bruise she left on your wrist.
You dread to think what your hair looks like after she's been tugging you around by it for the past hour, but you're far more concerned about the ache in your jaw. At this rate you don't think you'll even be able to speak tomorrow, which knowing the extent of Shauna's possessiveness may be an intended side effect.
Still, as she drags you face first between her legs you don't hesitate to get back to work as you latch back on to her clit. Not, of course, that she'd let you go anywhere else. After she'd come the second time you'd tried to move away, but she'd held you firmly still even as her moans turned pained and she was almost convulsing away from your mouth. Her grip on your hair had turned painful, spreading the misery in the way that Shauna knew best.
You think she must like it, the hint of pain and the threat of more to come. She certainly likes causing pain to you, little bursts that leave you squirming away and aching for it at the same instant, so you suppose it's not entirely out of left field for her. There's something so enticing about it all, in the way she uses you like a weapon against herself. You'd give her anything she'd ever ask for, but very rarely does she ever deign to ask instead of take. It's hot and frustrating in equal measures, just another trait of hers that attracts just as quickly as it repels.
“God, shut up,” Shauna complains, the steady pressure of her heel increasing as she pointedly draws you in further. Your eyes snap open, an almost betrayed look on your face as you stare up at her from between her thighs. Your tongue moves insistently, mouth too full of her to speak even if you wanted to. Which you don't, beyond your desperate need for air that Shauna keeps denying you you're more than content to stay between her legs as long as she'd have you.
“I can practically hear you thinking,” She adds. “Stop doing that. What do you have to be thinking about, huh? You thinking about that little whore from earlier?” Your eyes widen in horror, and just a hint of fear, and you're quick to dry to deny. Shauna doesn't give you a chance, however, as she braces her feet on the mattress to begin grinding into your mouth with a vengeance.
“You're mine,” She spits out. “My girlfriend. Not hers.”
“Mine,” Shauna repeats it over and over again with every thrust as if she could just knock it into your head if she tried hard enough. You want to reassure her, to tell her that you honestly didn't know who that girl even was, but you knew that Shauna wouldn't appreciate that from you right now even if you were in a position to tell her. You give up on trying to maintain any sort of rhythm as Shauna haphazardly chases her own high once again. You keep your tongue firm as she sets her own pace, feeling oddly like her favorite toy.
It's almost reminiscent of the way you've caught her humping her vibrator when she's feeling particularly neglected, eyes closed with one hand groping at her breasts as she fucks herself with everything she's got.
Shauna gets louder and louder with each orgasm, almost as if she's challenging herself for it. You're not quite sure who she could even be competing against: she'd be the reigning champion if such a thing existed. Regularly overstimulating herself to heights you hadn't thought possible, chasing a high for nothing more than the thrill of reaching it. You'd spent many an hour buried between her thighs as she bucked into you just as much as she struggled against it, shaking and crying from the feeling even as she sought out more of it.
You're distracted from your thoughts by the faint squeak of the mattress as she bucks up into your mouth, holding you still as she grinds herself against your tongue and soaked the bottom half of your face. Face full of her pussy as she didn't let you have even a moment to breathe, lightheaded and overwhelmed by the feeling of it all. Every action and every spare thought fixated solely on Shauna: hearing the way her voice cracked in the middle of her moan at the smallest amount of suction, feeling the way the strong muscles in her thighs trembled because of you, the way she tasted against your tongue and dripping down your face, and the smell of her mixed with the faint vanilla scent of her soap.
You're suddenly yanked away by a fist full of your hair, the room almost spinning at the sudden change of pace.
“Tell me you love me,” She demands suddenly.
“What–”
“Tell. Me. You. Love. Me,” She repeats slowly, emphasizing every word with a cruel flex of her hand. You cry out softly with every pull of your hair, desperately trying to escape the sting even as Shauna just adjusts her grip.
“Love you. I love you,” You mumble, staring up at her pleadingly from between her legs.
“Louder.”
“I love you, Shauna.”
She relaxes her grip just enough to stop the shooting pain from each and every flex of her finger, but the dull ache still remains as she clutches it tightly. “That's good,” Shauna breathes out, caressing your wrist with a surprising gentleness in contrast to her harsh treatment of your hair. “You mean it?”
“Yeah,” You agree, pressing your head affectionately into her hand.
“You don't think I'm too possessive? Too mean?”
You shake your head quickly, not liking the sudden turn in the conversation. It felt like a trap.
“You like it, then? When I mark you up?” She presses her thumb back into the bruise and you have to resist the urge to smile as she stares you down. You live for when she gets like this.
There's something about feeling her burning stare from across the room that just drives you insane. Knowing that her narrowed eyes watch every single movement and judge you for each and every one of them. You've never tried to purposely set her off, but she gets so jealous of the simplest things that you've never felt the need to try to push your luck for it. But this–this was good. Unlike some of her other mood swings you know just how to deal with it.
“Yeah, I do. I like it when everyone knows I'm yours. Do you like it too, Shauna? When everyone sees the marks you leave and know how good you treat–”
She cuts you off mid-sentence as she pulls you back between her legs. “God, you're so…” She groans as she trails off, frustrated and pleased in equal measures.
“You know what you're doing, when you say stuff like that,” Shauna accuses lightly. You take the opportunity to nip at her thigh on the way down, which she welcomes with a sigh. She tugs on your hair impatiently as she guides you back where she wants you, eagerly resuming her rhythm the second you're in range.
You feel a sharp pain in your nose as she bucks particularly hard, a muffled noise of pain leaving your mouth that you aren’t sure Shauna would heed even if she could hear it. You can feel the warm trickle of blood running down your face and subsequently getting smeared across your face by Shauna's insistent thrusts, but you quickly decide that's a later problem.
Your hands rest loosely on Shauna's hips, not daring to hold her down as you gently stroke your thumbs across her bare skin. Shauna's grip on your arm only tightens at the motion, fingers digging into your arm as her hips start to stutter. She lets out a desperate moan, legs starting to tremble where they're wrapped over your shoulders.
Her hips stutter once, twice, and then she's coming with a loud cry. Her whole body shakes with it, sputtering nonsense that switches between praise and degradation so quickly it makes your head spin. You almost chase her hips as she starts pulling away from you in her sensitivity, finally ending with her pressing a hand against your face and pushing your head against her thigh.
“You're done,” She murmurs, breath ragged as she lays limply with her eyes shut tight as she calms down.
You shrug it off, content to rest your aching jaw as you rest your head on her thigh. Your eyes slip closed as you lay there, nearly nodding off to the soothing feeling of Shauna's legs still quivering on either side of your shoulders. You breathe in the scent of her with each steady breath, finally calming your racing heart. You nuzzle into her hand as she starts carding her fingers through your hair, gently scratching at your scalp like you would a favored pet.
If you had the energy in you to be embarrassed you're sure this would be the moment, but she's long since used up that energy tonight. You're much more focused on keeping yourself awake as you dread to think of her reaction if you fell asleep in this position. You'd never hear the end of it, you're certain. You'd wake up to the sounds of her furiously writing about it in that little journal of hers– you can almost see the entry now.
“Up,” Shauna says, startling you as she suddenly breaks the silence. “Let's get your face cleaned up.”
You groan softly at the prospect of standing up but dutifully untangle your arms from beneath her legs as you rise up to your knees. Shauna's eyes narrow on your face all of the sudden, quickly rising after you as she grabs for your arm to stop you.
“Ah, careful,” She tuts, grabbing at your chin as she squeezes your cheeks together unflatteringly. She pauses to enjoy it for a moment, and there's something intensely thrilling about the joy she gets from making you look pathetic. “Your nose is bleeding.”
You raise your hand up to touch it but she gently slaps your hand away with one of hers, rubbing a trail of it away with her thumb as she raises it up to show you. “Didn’t realize you were so fragile,” She taunts with a cruel smile. You watch with a small bit of disbelief as she raises her thumb to her lips, moaning at the mix of your blood and her arousal as she sucks it clean.
“I've just got to be more careful with you, don't I?” She says, forcefully turning your head to watch the blood drip down to your lips. She leans forward to clean you up, less of a kiss and more like she's trying to eat you alive. Her tongue moves insistently across your lips, practically lapping at the blood that keeps falling from your nose.
Her grin is almost feral as she pulls away, faint traces of blood on her teeth shining in the light. “I don't want to break my favorite toy. It would take forever to get another one,” Shauna murmurs, licking her lips clean as she drops her hand from your face.
“Y’know, it wasn't very feminist of you to call her a whore,” You comment idly, rubbing at your jaw in a futile attempt to soothe the throbbing ache.
“What?” Shauna asks dangerously, voice ripe with an implied threat if you don't tread carefully.
You clear your throat as you think through your options. “Nothing.”
That seemed safest.
Shauna hums in agreement, throwing an arm loosely around you as she hovers off to the side. She's careful not to overwhelm you, sticking to the sidelines until you pull her closer.
You lay in a comfortable silence for a few minutes as your breathing settles out, Shauna cuddling up into your side the second you so much as pull on her arm. “Sorry,” She says gruffly.
“Hm?” You ask softly, not bothering to open your eyes.
“About your wrist. I think I was a little… rough.” You snicker, turning your face away from her to hide your grin.
“Don't laugh at me,” She complains, but you can hear the smile in her voice. Shauna gently grabs at your arm, pulling your wrist up to her lips as she presses a gentle kiss against the bruise she's left.

you missed my heart - natalie scatorccio
Tumblr media
summary – natalie almost kills the love of her life in a moment of fear (approx. 2.4k words)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
it was a lazy november day when natalie scatorccio confessed her love to you.
you sat in the cafeteria with her during lunch and she was visibly shaken up; an argument with her father, probably. she looked so tired, and you wished you could help her.
“you should go to the guidance counsellor about your parents, nat”, you had offered her, trying to exude as much hope as you could. but, natalie shook her head. she looked at you with her big sad hazel eyes. the eyebags that hid under them were heavy and practically screamed want - a want for happiness, a want for a restful sleep.
“it’s not that easy, (y/n)”, is all she said, voice barely a meek whisper.
“you need to try, nat. i’m sure they can do something,” she shook her head as you talked, but you kept suggesting, “get you away from them, call the police, anything.”
“i can’t because if i leave, my dad will kill me, and if he doesn’t kill me, he’ll kill my mom.”
her voice was firm, and you could hear annoyance welling up through her throat.
“then what can i do for you?”
“nothing,” she sighed, simply yet firmly. “i just can’t deal with this right now, i can’t deal with you right now.”
her eyebrows were pressed together, an annoyed knot between them. you felt offended, almost, but you also felt irritated towards your friend for being upset at you.
“i want to protect you”, you murmured after some time, and it seemed like something flicked in natalie.
“you can’t protect me, i can’t even protect me!”, she growled in annoyance, “ugh, just fuck off!”
and, then natalie scatorccio stormed off.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
you didn’t see her for the remainder of the school day. with every passing period, the knot in your stomach grew tighter and bigger and you were shaking by the time you came to soccer practice. you didn’t see her anywhere in the changing room, maybe she was already on the field warming up?
tying the laces of your cleats too tight, you wearily stood up off the bench and walked towards the exit of the locker room. your limbs felt heavy as they swung haphazardly by your side. lottie gave you a concerned look; one that told you she cared for you without expressing it. you smiled weakly at her, undertones of anxiety prominent on your face.
as the team lined up for their pre-practice announcements, jackie began to walk past everybody, taking count of who was around. then, she stopped in front of you, arms held behind her back in confidence. “(l/n), where’s scatorccio?”
you looked into her eyes with your own weary orbs and for a moment, her hardened exterior softened. “i… don’t know.”
the field went silent for a moment as thoughts whirred in jackie’s head, and before she could speak, somebody else did.
“she’s probably sucking a dick or doing drugs in a ditch!”, a haughty voice taunted a few spaces away from you. your head turned in slow motion as you met the eyes of the brawny girl. then, your vision went red.
“the fuck did you say?!”, you growled, storming over to her and grabbing a fistful of her jersey. she looked ready to recoil, but jackie put a hand on your shoulder, pulling you back.
“steady, (y/n)! and you,” she pointed at the girl, “have some respect for your teammates!”
your eyes panned around the team noticing everybody’s hesitant silence and the girl smirked at you, watching you from her power high.
“fuck”, you seethed under your voice, “this. fuck all of you. get over yourselves.”
and then you stormed away from the field, increasing the distance between you and your teammates. only coach ben and misty called after you.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
the trek to natalie’s house was definitely a long one. it had been about an hour now, and you felt yourself shiver in your black hoodie. you were ill prepared for this walk, but then again, you didn’t expect to find yourself going to your best friend’s house at half past six in the evening when you woke up this morning. you felt worry well up in your heart as the sun slowly hid under the distant horizon and the temperatures dropped further. yet still, you continued to strut briskly.
once you arrived in the trailer park, you beelined towards your friend’s dwelling. you felt like a stranger in this section of town, prying eyes watching you through windows and cracks in the door. an elderly woman sat in a chair, failing to light her cigarette, cursing.
you eventually arrived at the door of the beaten-up trailer, hesitating for a moment. if natalie was in here, she probably didn’t want to see you – or more like, she probably didn’t want to see you here, in the most dangerous area in her life. but still, you puffed your chest up, and with a newfound confidence fuelled by concern, you knocked. once, twice, three times.
and then, the door was ripped open. a gruff, tired man stared at you. he reeked of alcohol and his face contorted into a vile mix of annoyance and hatred. “who the fuck are you? what do you want?”, he asked demandingly, almost spitting on you.
“i’m looking for natalie, is she here?”, you worriedly asked, suddenly losing all the confidence you had previously manifested.
he sighed and groaned, “that little whore is gone. she’s not fucking welcome here anymore. leave before i shoot your brains out, now!”
and then, he slammed the door in your face. the wind from the recoil blew your hair back a little, and you felt your legs grow wobbly from fear. you turned on your foot and walked around the corner to not be seen by him again. ‘where would natalie be,’ your brain wandered as you pondered hard about the whereabouts of your friend.
suddenly, you remembered the junkyard. it wasn’t far from here and you remember smoking there with natalie, van and travis. you began to walk there, but only a few steps into your journey, it began lashing rain. you grumbled, pulling your hood over your head, tucking your hair into it so it wouldn’t get wet. for your own good, you hoped she was there, because you really didn’t want to deal with a cold.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
natalie scatorccio leaned against a rusted car, swinging the pistol she stole from her father the night prior. she was so irritated, and decided to hang around the quietest place she knew of in order to recollect herself.
you wouldn’t understand her, ever. she couldn’t get help. her father would kill her if she tried, and her mother definitely wouldn’t save her. she had previous countless injuries to prove as such, and she grimaced from remembering the fear and pain she would feel for days after, threading lightly around her parents as she slipped out to go to school every morning. she remembered the threats her father gave and the worried looks her mother concealed.
the one time her mother had tried to protect natalie from her beast of a father, she had ended up beaten severely. natalie had to beg him to stop, and for a moment, she genuinely thought her mother was dead; all she ever did now is stare blankly at the tv, sleep, and drink. it’s like she was a puppet, just bending to her husband’s will.
natalie’s heart clenched, thinking about how she had lost her mother, and now she was losing you. she looked up towards the sky, feeling droplets against her face. she couldn’t tell if she was crying but she felt a ripping feeling in her chest and a pain well up in the back of her throat. she couldn’t stop thinking about the shock that etched itself onto your face when she had yelled at you earlier. you didn’t need somebody as damaged as her, you didn’t need that trouble in your life. her father would probably kill her before she could even tell you she loved you; either that, or she’d end up as fucked up as he was.
suddenly, natalie jumped from shock as she heard a rattling noise behind her. some rubbish fell off a pile and she heard the shuffle of a body. turning swiftly, she saw a hunched over black figure approaching her, and before natalie could process her shock, she aimed the gun at them.
but then, on reflex (and maybe a reaction to trauma), natalie pressed her finger on the trigger. following the gunshot sound that rung throughout the junkyard, natalie could only hear silence, and then a pained gasp. hold on – it sounded feminine.
she rushed to the collapsing figure as they fell on their side lifelessly, like a sack of potatoes. ripping the hood off their face, she felt her blood run cold when she saw none other than you. (y/n) (l/n). you gripped your shoulder with your hand, coughing hard, as crimson began to seep through your fingers.
“shit! (y/n)! what the fuck?”, natalie gasped as she cried, holding you, “what the fuck? what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fu-“
you coughed again, snapping your friend out of her panicked spiral. natalie’s stomach filled with bile as she helped you strip the hoodie off, leaving you in your soccer jersey. you screamed in pain at the action, biting down on a sleeve. your shoulder was bloodied all the way to your chest, and natalie couldn’t identify where she had shot you.
“i-“, she wept, “i don’t know what to do. i didn’t mean to shoot you.”
your vision began to blur as natalie whimpered, and you reached a shaky hand out to touch her face.
“call misty.”
natalie’s warm tears dripped down your fingers, and the feeling revitalised you a little. her body was bent in a way that resembled a hurt animal as she bit down on her lip, body trembling. she squeezed your hand with more strength than you yourself could even muster up in that moment.
“call misty,” you repeated again, and something in natalie clicked as she awakened from her bleary mental turmoil.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
first, you heard voices, and then you opened your eyes. you were in misty’s living room, nestled up under blankets on her sofa. natalie and misty exchanged a few brief words before natalie turned to look at you. she looked exhausted and you could see smoky streaks of eyeliner on her cheeks. she noticed that you had woken up wiped her eyes, and then rushed to your side. she held your palm to her cheek, and you felt wetness.
you hissed in pain as you moved a hand up to rest it on the back of her head before talking sweetly yet tiredly, “hey gorgeous.”
you noticed misty smile in the corner of your eye before she left the room to give you two some space.
“i didn’t mean to, (y/n). you’re the last person i’d wanna hurt,” natalie whispered, voice trembling.
“i know nat, it’s okay.”
natalie hiccupped and cried, “it’s not okay though. i still hurt you, i nearly killed you. i love you. i’d never wanna hurt you like that, and i did.”
though natalie glossed over the confession, you heard every word of it; it sunk into you, and you felt your body grow heavier as heat rose to your cheeks.
“you love me?”, you repeated her words, sheepishly.
“i…”, she breathed for a moment, “i’ve loved you since the day i met you.”
“i love you too”, is all you said, looking into her eyes. they looked innocent in that moment, and you knew you could get lost in them for hours. natalie was full of complexities, and you wanted to unravel her troubles and see her smile.
“but, (y/n), i’m just too much trouble. my family is fucked up, and i’m fucked up too. i’d only hurt you”, she gasped out, not wanting to damage you further.
“i’m willing to deal with that, nat,” is all that you said, “we can get through it together.”
natalie looked surprised for a second as your words set in. her mouth was open in a small o shape, until you, with all the strength you could muster, pulled her into you.
she kissed you gently, not wanting to make your injury worse, and you were almost stiff due to the pain you felt, but you pushed through it, and pulled her even closer.
her lips tasted like salt and cigarettes, but you didn’t mind, because you loved her so much. you felt your heart swell in adoration as you pulled away, wiping her tears with a thumb.
for a moment, you studied each other’s eyes, until you heard a gasp behind you. misty covered her face. “(y/n), i know i owed you a favour, but that doesn’t mean i want to be a third wheel in my own house!”
the three of you burst into laughter and natalie helped you up. misty continued, “i stitched it up and tried to clean the cut as well as possible, but don’t do any rigorous activity for a few weeks. this means no soccer practice, got it?”, she pointed a finger against your chest, and you nodded. “also, pat dry after a shower, and constantly take painkillers, because it’s not going to heal easily.”
after thanking the yellowjackets’ equipment manager, natalie helped walk you home. she sat on your bed as you inspected the wound in your bedroom mirror. “looks gnarly, d’ya reckon i’ll have a sexy scar?”
natalie chuckled, awkwardly, hiding her face in shame a little.
“it’s fine, babe, i’m really not upset at you, i promise.” you said, suddenly holding her face in your hand, forcing her to look into your eyes.
she only smiled back at you, wearily. you both fell silent for a moment before she cleared her throat. “well, i guess i should… find somewhere to stay. goodnight, (y/n).”
but, then you grabbed her hand in yours. “hold on a sec. you can stay with me.”
natalie looked at you with wide eyes.
“you have nowhere to go, and besides, i’ll need someone to help me with my injury. i’m sure my parents won’t mind”, you smiled with a wink, voice like honey.
natalie pulled you in for a chaste kiss, pressing a hand on your lower back.
she literally missed your heart that day, but she shot right through it the moment you both fell in love.

about kevyn tan. like, why did this burnout goth kid elect to enter The System despite being so fringe in his youth? kevyn is first presented as our suburb 90s version of alternative gender expression, but he wears the goth title the same way he wears the cop title. loosely, ill fitting. this guy? really? on the surface he seems likable, but! but. he is always trying to be the most "inoffensive" in an offensive party, no matter which side of the line on. (he doesnt say anything when nat is harassed by the boys in the car, like he doesn't say anything about the out of line "undercover" work Saracusa does on the Sadecki case). he only takes on either role (goth/cop) because he thinks it will impress a girl. in a show centered so much around girlhood, womanhood — we have travis, who starts out immediately (begrudgingly) taking this very Masculine role in all the regular teen boy ways he's been bullied into but then also in the grown man ways he has to in his father's absence, for javi. and we have kevyn who is experimenting with a more Feminine self expression. they both suck at it. natalie has to cut the ring off of coach martinez's finger for travis to bring it back to javi. natalie has to tell kevyn not to use sharpie on his nails. but then javi goes missing for travis, and natalie goes missing for kevyn. without javi, travis can begin to slip into this honorarily Girl role that he was never allowed to before, a role he is more comfortable in. (travis' angry outbursts through the series are almost always linked back to moments when he is being asked to perform Manhood, vs the peace and comfort it brings him when someone else relieves him of that burden. like nat asking him not to go on tai's hike, and the sex scene where hallucination lottie holds him gently, opposed to how much nat saying "I want you so bad" scared him off). while travis is studying the blade coming into womanhood in the wilderness through his loss of bodily autonomy, through adhering to the rituals they begin to set (the laws of the wilderness/girlcode) and finally his emotional and bloody participation in the birth of shauna's ("their") baby... kevyn is in society coming into manhood by the laws of civilization, now that he no longer has nat to, yes, guide him but more importantly to wear the uniform for. travis wants to be a part of girlhood. kevyn covets girlhood, the same way he covets nirvana. he doesn't actually care about it, he just wants it to be his and nat's thing. he liked it better when it was just them. he begins his descent to cop (derogatory) as travis begins his ascent to deadwife (affectionate). later when nat tells kevyn that he and travis were a lot alike, it's true and it isn't. they have the same middle point, but only pass by each other briefly on their way to opposite ends of the spectrum, where they were headed all along.

"Come on guys, you saw her today, there's no way she's gonna do any better at nationals" Taissa complained
"So what do we do?" Lottie said "If she doesn't get the ball she can't screw up the game"
"Tai, you wanna freeze her out!? Really?!" Natalie exclaimed "Can't we just play like a damn team like we always did?'
Taissa scoffed "You don't have to defend her just because she has been your hook up for like a month"
At that, a pissed expression formed on Natalie's face "You know what? Fuck this, and fuck you" she shouted as she walked away.
Of course nobody would ever take her or any relationship she's in seriously, her reputation precedes her after all, but she really loved you, a lot.
"Hi baby!" You happily said as soon as you saw your girlfriend approaching you at the school gates, when she smiled and skipped to you quickly, immediately pulling you in for a peck on the lips "Hey" she mumbled when she pulled away
"wanna meet up at mine?" You asked, she smiled widely "Of course babe"
*a few days later*
"Y/n! On your left!" Jackie yelled passing the ball to you, Taissa had been targeting you throughout the game, you were starting to panic, not really knowing the reason behind her behavior, and just as you were reflecting, something hit your knee and you feel on the ground.
Crack
Pain.
Screams.
You let out a gut wrenching scream, clutching to your leg and noticing something white peaking out "GOD THAT'S MY MOTHER FUCKING BONE!" you shouted.
After that, everything felt like a blur, the pain was unbearable and the only thing you could make out was Natalie's hand tightly holding onto yours.
Then you were brought to the hospital and they treated your leg, it was obvious that you weren't going to the nationals anymore.
Natalie sat in an armchair next to your hospital bed, her thumb tracing circles on your hand soothingly, you were discussing the fact that you had to stay home
"Don't worry baby, before you realize I'm gone I'll be back already" she said smiling.
*19 months later*
You woke up in your crappy apartment, tired from a long night of studying and definitely emotionally drained, College wasn't that bad but definitely it wasn't what you expected.
Because she wasn't there.
Since the plane crashed it was impossible for you not to think about Nat every single day.
Where is she? Is she okay? Is she alive?
You didn't know, no one knew.
When you got the news that the girls (if still alive) were stranded somewhere in the nowhere you completely broke down, you lost yourself for a long time, and now when you just started to feel more at ease with that tool, it all ended when you turned on the tv
"The survivors of the girls soccer team Yellowjackets were found and rescued in the early hours of the morning, the girls were found in the Ontario wilderness in critical conditions, now they are currently at the local police station in Wiskayok, New Jersey"
Natalie.
You ran as fast as you could. Not looking back, just running and running.
And when you reached the police station, you had to make your way through thousands of people, and when you finally got to the front, you saw them.
They were going from the station to another plane, and you panicked,
God, there aren't many survivors. What if Natalie...
Your thoughts evaporated when you saw one of the girls frenetically pulling up her hood, brown hair and...blonde ends...
Nat.
And that's what you yelled "Nat! Natalie!"
Suddenly the head of the girl turned in your direction, tears instantly running down both of your eyes, she quickly ran to you and you met her halfway, instantly pulling her in a bone crushing hug.
You both sobbed and looked at each other in the eyes, and when a police officer rushed to pull you away from her, you could swear that she almost grunted at him, pushing him off you and bringing you back to her chest
*three months later*
After she came back home Natalie moved into your apartment, it was nice having her around all the time after almost two years of her being far far away, she never really liked to talk about that place, so you never forced her to.
You rubbed the sleep out of your eyes, Nat and you were sleeping in your bed peacefully cuddled up until you heard small sobs and felt something wet dripping down your face, looking up at her, she was still sleeping, and it didn't take a genius to tell she was having a nightmare "Baby?" You softly muttered, shaking her awake, that startled her, and opening her eyes she couldn't help but sob even harder.
Another time you two were sitting by the small fireplace in your living room drinking hot cocoa and watching a movie, when you turned your head you noticed her intensively staring at the fire, you got closer, rubbing her back "We did this a lot back there, sit by the fire..." she said, reminiscing her experience "Nat if you ever feel like..." you were interrupted "talking about it? No y/n ...the things we saw, the things we did out there in order to survive... I don't want you to know, you'll never look at me the same"
Days later you got home after class for a quick lunch, Natalie was already in the kitchen, cup in hand "Coffee?" You asked taking a closer look only to meet small pieces of meat cut in little rectangles, she looked at you as if you were the one with a weird demeanor "Here" you spoke up picking up a plate for her "Don't eat from the cup"
It wasn't just the way she behaved, unable to let go of some little things she got used to in the wilderness, it was also the look in her eyes, now cold and at times empty, it broke your heart to see her like that, but one day, you hoped, things would get better, the old bitchy and tough Natalie who you feel in love with would come back.
And that day at the moment was sure far away .
A/N: imma post some other stuff soon, stay tuned guys!!!

What if Misty gets her AuDHD diagnosis just before Christmas and tried to mask and act cool while shopping for people so as to not put anyone off? Like what if she buys Nat a pretty shirt and Lottie cozy socks and it's thoughtful but like bland presents and her three girlfriends pick up on it and get her the most niche dorky shit to compensate and let her know they're all for her kookiness?
CALIGULA’S DREAMHOUSE
i love this request so much
pairing: misty x lottie x natalie x reader
word count: 819
notes: i did this w misty’s special interest being parrots/caligula
Tumblr media
Nothing could compare to how excited you were for Christmas — you had bought an incomprehensible amount of presents for your girlfriends, and you’d spent the weekend putting up the tree together. Everything was perfect, but among the presents you’d bought, there was one you were particularly excited to give.
You and your girlfriends had found a three level bird cage for Caligula. It was as if the Barbie Dreamhouse had been reconstructed for a parrot. It was complete with mirrors and treats and toys in the cage, and to compliment it you’d gotten Misty a year long subscription to the most renowned bird magazines you could find. It was perfect, you knew she would love it. You’d gotten other gifts for your girlfriends as well, but you and Natalie and Lottie all unspokenly agreed that Caligula’s new cage would be the main event of all of the presents this year.
On Christmas morning, the four of you (five of you, if you count the bird sitting on Misty’s shoulder) sat on the couch together in the living room in front of the fire. Caligula’s cage stood wrapped awkwardly in front of the Christmas tree. You were saving it as the last present to give to Misty, the one she would enjoy the most.
“These ones are for all of you,” Misty said with a small smile. She picked up a series of small boxes and passed them out to the three of you. You exchanged confused looks with Lottie and Nat — you were always excited for Misty’s quirky presents, the three of you looked forward to them every year, and you could only guess what you were going to get this year.
“You go first,” you said to Lottie, and you and Natalie watched in anticipation as she began to unwrap the present.
The three of you stared at the results a bit confused. In Lottie’s hands were a pair of socks. Plain black socks, and when she turned them over she found that that’s all they were.
“Oh,” she said, and you could tell she was a bit confused, a bit disappointed. “Thank you, Misty.”
The four of you sat in an awkward silence before Misty spoke up.
“I didn’t want to go overboard this year,” she said cautiously. “With my diagnosis and everything I just thought… I don’t know, maybe my presents in the past have been a bit weird and overboard? So I stuffed everything I bought in the closet and got you guys some more normal presents.”
“Misty, we love your presents,” you said. “You’re the best gift giver I know. Holidays with you are always the best, your gifts are so personal.”
“Remember the heliotrope nutcracker you got me last year?” Lottie asked with a smile. Misty nodded, looking up at the mantle of the fireplace where the nutcracker stood proudly.
“Or the calendar you got me of cats in heavy metal bands?” Natalie added.
“We love everything you get us,” you said, and pulled her into a hug, causing Caligula to fly irritably over to Lottie, but you felt Misty relax in your arms and that was all that mattered.
“We want your real Christmas presents now,” Natalie told her. “We want the Misty presents.”
Your gaze suddenly flitted to the bird cage and excitement filled you. “Hold on,” you said. You exchanged glances with Natalie and Lottie, who understood instantly what you were proposing, and they nodded.
“We know you’ve been saying Caligula needs a better cage to sleep in,” you started, and used all of your strength to pull over the giant cage. “So, if it meets Mr Caligula’s expectations, we’d like to give you this.”
Excitedly, Misty unwrapped the present. She gasped upon laying eyes on the bird cage, handing the bird toys inside with care. You could tell she was almost in tears, and when Caligula flew happily over to his new enclosure all of you laughed.
“It’s perfect,” Misty breathed, and gave Caligula one of the bird treats inside.
“Merry Christmas,” Caligula said, and bobbed his head.
“Oh my god,” Lottie breathed. “I’ve been trying to teach him to say that for weeks!”
“Pretty pretty bird good bird,” Caligula said, and fluttered his wings. “Come on bird I’ll roast you in a purple pot and eat you in purple soup say it bird good god!”
“I didn’t say that,” Lottie grumbled, sighing. “Maybe just once, but I’d never really eat him.”
“I’ll eat you!” Caligula shouted. “Merry Christmas!”
“You know what? I might just let you keep the socks,” Misty said to Lottie a bit irritably. “The other two of you get my fun presents, though.”
Lottie stared disappointedly at the socks in her lap, and when you looked back to Caligula, he looked inexplicably pleased with himself.
Little did he know, one of your Christmas presents for Lottie this year was a brand new heliotrope cookware set.

"what?" lottie looked at natalie as the words slipped from her lips. as she said it, the words felt slower then speaking normally should. "stop being stingy" natalie said as lottie gently flicked the access ash off the blunt before passing it back over to nat.
this was the first time lottie had ever tried weed. she was hesitant when nat stood outside her window unannounced shaking the little baggy at her while she stood on her lawn.
lottie's whole body felt tingly, she couldn't depict whether or not it was a good feeling or not, nat was feeling it to. for her everything else looked so much closer. she could see every feature on lottie's delicate face, the way her mouth moved and how soft her lips looked.
natalie hesitantly moved closer to lottie. they were both rested on lottie's ridiculously big princess bed. testing the waters. lottie could recognise what she was trying to do, and reciprocated natalie's nervous actions.
they just looked at eachother for a moment both too anxious to do something. nat was too focused on lottie's lips and how they glistened with that fucking lip gloss. natalie took another hit of the blunt, holding the smoke in as she moved even closer, their lips almost grazing. natalie could smell it now, "strawberries" sickly sweet, she thought as she had almost filled the gap in between them.
natalie looked up at lottie's eyes before moving her focus back down to her mouth where she exhaled the smoke into lottie's parted lips.
lottie had adjusted herself before pulling at natalie's hips, inviting her to come still on her lap. she pulled natalie closer and she spoke "lot, since when have you been clueless about anything?".
lottie moved her face closer to nat's, really letting their lips graze before they both gave in.
that's when the tingles lottie was feeling earlier moved elsewhere, as they both latched their lips onto one another, moving with eachother.
lottie griped the back of nat's hair as she lets her slip her tounge into her mouth, she can taste the ash on nat's tounge, and it makes her feel dizzy.
lottie moves her hands down to natalie's waist, pulling her hips into her as nat continues to swirl her tounge around in lottie's mouth, making her groan so lightly natalie doesn't even know if lottie's aware of the sound that whispered from her own lips.
natalie finds a spot on lottie's thigh and rocks her hips against hers. natalie pulls back for a second to grab lottie's hands and pull them onto her thighs, griping them, and lottie lets her.

one of the themes of yellowjackets that i haven’t been able to stop thinking about is cycles of violence, which i think we particularly see in two ways: inter-generational trauma, and this idea of violence as a tool of forgiveness.
starting with inter-generational trauma, i love what yj has done with this. there are so many different examples: van’s relationship with her mom, which liv hewson has said impacts the way they play the character (in particular her relationship with tai), and which i think is especially important given that van’s mom was an alcoholic and now we’ve seen this suggestion that van may or may not have some kind of addiction problem herself. tai’s trauma which manifests itself in sleepwalking, which she never fully dealt with, and now has directly passed onto her child - arguably largely because she refuses to face it. shauna’s relationship with callie, the way she’s treated her child as accomplice, distant yet also expecting callie to fill in the role jackie might have had if everything had happened differently; still processing the trauma of her wilderness birth which leaves her unable to be fully present for callie. lottie’s relationship with her parents, natalie’s experience with abuse, there’s so much i could go into with this.
but in particular, i think one of the most interesting ways this manifests is in the way lottie passes her beliefs and practices - shaped by this unspeakable trauma, shaped by her experience in a mental hospital in a foreign country, shaped by the ways she’s failed and how nobody has taken her seriously - onto the members of her “community. dozens of people living their lives on a foundation lottie has built out of her pain.
and this is also the clearest place we’ve seen lottie express this belief in violence as a way to achieve forgiveness. when she tells lisa to stab natalie, to take her anger out on the cause, just as she offered herself up as a sacrifice to shauna 25 years ago. i certainly agree with others that lottie can be manipulative, but i think in this regard she’s genuine - she believes that she’s found a solution, but she blinds herself to the fact that she’s caught in her own cycle, that intentionally or not the people around her have been caught in this same cycle. misty couldn’t save crystal/kristen, so she lets javi die to save another friend. nat can’t save javi, so she saves lisa at the cost of herself - but misty can’t save natalie this time, and the cycle continues, because the cost of using violence to find forgiveness is that somebody will end up harmed, somebody won’t be able to stop it, and the burden of guilt is simply passed on.
to me this is such a fascinating idea that i’ve never really seen explored before, and on some level i know that it will only get so much worse as more shit goes down and more people can’t be saved. if this is the principle the yellowjackets are living by, they’re all accruing a lot of fucking guilt. and i most certainly see how constantly trying to outrun this guilt, caught in a trap of committing more violence and acquiring more guilt to escape what you’re already carrying, could bury a person.

Visiting the grandparents

Rose: 14, Charlotte and Grace: 10
This one was written was @scarlizzie-loverrr , just copied over to keep it all together!!🫶
“ girls! Come on move your butts to the car “ Wanda said as she gently pushed her three daughters to the front door “ mama wait , I didn’t grab my teddy , bunny and blanket yet “ said Charlotte as she runs upstairs to her bedroom .
Eliza gasped dramatically “ I didn’t either “ she said before running upstairs following her twin , Rose chuckled when Wanda rolled her eyes playfully .
“ you girls ready? “ asked Nat coming from the kitchen with a bag of snacks that Wanda packed , she passed it to Wanda before wrapping her arms around her oldest , Rose leaned back in her mom’s arms , sighing softly .
Wanda nodded stroking Rose’s hair gently , placing kisses on her head “ mama! Eliza took my bunny! “ Charlotte whined , as they can hear the two of them running behind each other upstairs with Eliza giggling .
Nat sighed shaking her head “ Girls! Come down right now! You two are going to make us late “ said Nat , Wanda giggled before going upstairs to bring the twins back down .
Both Eliza and Lottie came down with their each bunny , teddy and small blanket for the trip . The family of five got out of the house , with Nat locking the front door , Rose was comfortably sat next to the window , looking at her twin sisters who were fighting over the other window seat .
“ Charlotte you always sit in the middle seat! Why do you suddenly want to sit in MY seat?! “ Eliza says angrily pushing Lottie in the middle seat , Charlotte whined kicking Eliza “ no fair! I’m 6 minutes older! “ says Lottie , Rose sighed rolling her eyes .
“ you’re not acting like it Lottie! Stop! “ Eliza said kicking her twin back , while Rose tried to stop them , finally Wanda entered the car , sitting in the passenger seat “ hey! You two! Stop it now! We didn’t even drive yet , my gosh “ she said , leaning back to make them stop , which they did .
“ wanna sit next to the window “ Lottie said frowning , making Eliza smirk teasing her about it “ I won’t let you look in my window “ giggled Eliza making Lottie whine telling her twin to stop , while their mom was loading the car trunk with their bags .
“ it’s okay Lottie , you can look in my window? “ said Rose stroking Charlotte’s hair , Lottie nodded leaning towards Rose for snuggles . Eliza frowned “ hey I want snuggles too “ she said before leaning on Lottie to snuggle , Lottie wrapped one arm around her twin while having the other wrapped around Rose’s arm .
“ alright , we got everything right? “ said Nat sitting in the driver seat looking back in a Aw at her daughters snuggling “ they were fighting 2 minutes ago “ Wanda said giggling , Nat rolled her eyes playfully chuckling “ of course they were “
The drive to Melina’s farm will take about 5 hours and 30 minutes , it was 11 am when they headed out , Wanda made sure that all of them had been eating all of their breakfast so they don’t get hungry much , she also packed some snacks but knowing that her wife will stop in a gas station to grab something , it always happens so she didn’t take much snacks .
35 minutes into the drive , they were singing and dancing around to the music . Till they got bored and so both Wanda and Natasha started telling them about the coolest missions they’ve done .
1 hour and 30 minutes more into the drive , Rose felt sick , she gently pushed Lottie off of her “ mommy , I think Rose is going to throw up “ As soon as Natasha heard Lottie tell her that , she went to pull the car aside while Wanda passed her oldest daughter a bag .
Rose started gagging before throwing up all of the breakfast she ate while crying softly , Lottie was holding her sister’s hair back , while Eliza was trying to comfort her sister by telling her that it’s okay , when Natasha pulled the car aside , both Wanda and Natasha unbuckled their seatbelts , Wanda leaning towards her oldest while Natasha got out of the car before opening Rose’s door .
“ it’s okay baby , let it all out , you’re okay lovely girl “ Wanda comforted her daughter rubbing her knees “ Wanda hon , can you please get the ginger candy? It always helps “ said Nat as she rubbed Rose’s back with one hand , and grabbing her oldest water bottle with the other .
“ mommy I don’t like it “ said Rose crying finally done with throwing up , Nat took the bag from her throwing it in the big trashcan next to them outside , before comforting her daughter “ Aw sweetheart, I know you don’t , it’s okay angel , you’re okay “ replied Nat , taking the wipes Lottie offered to wipe Rose’s mouth gently , before unbuckling Rose’s seatbelt lifting her up in her arms , to sit in her seat , pulling her in her lap .
“ here lovebug , drink some water please“ Nat says passing Rose her water bottle “ Sweetheart did you find the ginger candy yet? “ added Nat looking at her wife who’s still looking through Nat’s backpack .
“ yeah I think so , here “ Wanda says leaning to give it to Nat , Rose watched as her mom opened the bag of ginger candy , taking two of them before giving them to Rose , who shoved them both in her mouth just wanting the nausea to go away .
Nat suggested waiting 15 minutes for Rose’s upset stomach to soothe , while the twins were saying jokes trying to cheer Rose up , Wanda kept telling Rose to take some sips of the water , and Nat was just holding her oldest in her arms comfortably .
2 more hours into the drive , Rose didn’t feel sick anymore so the ginger candy definitely helped like it always does “ mama my butt hurt “ Lottie whined as she unbuckled her seatbelt to stand up “ Charlotte darling , sit down on your seat and put your seatbelt back on please “ Wanda said sternly turning around to look at Lottie “ Yeah sweets , I know you sat for a long time , but there’s a gas station just one minute away , I’m going to stop by it okay? Just sit back down sweet girl “ added Nat , making Lottie nod sitting back down in her seat.
The three sisters ran out of the car when Nat parked it next to a big store in the gas station, Wanda and Nat following behind their daughters “ girls please stay with us “ Wanda said pulling them gently next to her and Nat .
“ mama , mommy? Can I take some candy please? “ Asked Eliza looking at the candy aisle “ each one of you gets to pick , two snacks okay? “ Wanda says making them cheer as they run off to grab some candy and chocolate .
“ I thought you already packed snacks? “ Nat asked wrapping one arm around Wanda as they followed their daughters , Wanda shrugged “ I brought crackers and some salt chips only so “ Nat laughed nodding , Wanda only brought her own favorite snacks that’s why .
“ mama! Mama! “ Eliza said running to Wanda showing her what she bought , white Kit Kat bar and those rainbow tall thingy candy , Wanda giggled at how excited Eliza is because she found her favorite candy , Rose got crunchie cadbury and some chips while Lottie got a Kinder egg and barbecue Pringles the large size with a cheeky smile .
“ Charlotte , don’t you think that’s too large for little you “ said Wanda tickling her making her giggle loudly “ she can take it “ chuckled Nat picking Lottie up , as she took the kids snacks with her to pay for them with Char in her arms .
Wanda took her other two daughters out of the store to the small playground next to the gas station “ you guys go , let all of your energy out “ says Wanda making Rose and Eliza run racing each other, they played for a bit , till Nat came with Charlotte and a bag of her kids snacks in her hands , Lottie quickly ran towards her mama and sisters going to play with them in the monkey bars .
They went back to the car , driving After 10 minutes or so of playing . After some time , Eliza cuddled both of her bunny and teddy while having her unicorn blanket covering her “ mama are we there yettt “ Eliza whined glancing at her asleep twin , who had her head resting on Rose’s shoulder her baby pink and light purple blanket with stars on it covering her , with one of her hand still in the bag of her barbecue chips and the other cuddling her teddy, Rose had her headphones on listening to music while looking out of the window , gently playing with Charlotte’s hair .
“ just 45 more minutes babylove , you sleepy? “ asked Wanda glancing at Eliza who nodded her head rubbing her eyes “ just go to sleep munchkin , why don’t you take a small nap , yeah? “ said Nat giving Eliza a soft smile when she nodded .
When they finally arrived , they woke the twins up and got their stuff out of the car “ hey you two “ said Nat looking at her twins making them stop walking looking at her , she kneeled down to their level “ lovelies , I want the both of you to be good girls and try to get closer to grandma Melina and grandpa Alexei , just how like Rose is close to grandma Melina , can you two please try and get closer to her for me? “ said Nat stroking both of their hairs .
“ I’m already close with grandpa a bit “ mumbled Eliza making Nat nod giving her a little smile “ I know baby , but I want you to get closer to grandma too okay? And Lottie can you try to get closer to both of them please sweetheart? “ said Nat , Lottie shrugged making Nat sigh softly , Wanda who had her arm wrapped around Rose , gave her wife a soft look .
“ it’s okay Natty , just let them be baby “ said Wanda making Nat nod as she stood back up and walked to the front door , both of the twins immediately went to hide behind their moms , Eliza hiding behind Wanda while Lottie was behind Nat and Rose stood in the middle of her parents with a shy smile when Melina opened the door .
“ hi kiddos! “ said Melina as she straightly took Rose in her arms , destroying her face with kisses making her giggle “ hi Nat “ Melina smiled going to hug her daughter before hugging Wanda , and looking down at the twins .
Nat gently pulled Lottie in front of her , making Char turn around and hiding her face in her mommy’s stomach “ hey Charlotte , remember what I said? Now be a good girl and say hi to grandma please “ whispered Nat sternly , softly pulling away from Char , Lottie held her mom’s hand before giving Melina a quick side hug and returning to Nat’s arms again , Eliza doing the same less shyly .
Entering the house Nat placed all of their bags aside walking to the living room with Lottie clinging onto her side , Melina had her arms wrapped around Rose as she lead her to the living room while talking to her softly , Wanda had Eliza up in her arms .
“ AHHHH MY NIECES! “ shouted Yelena throwing the game controller she was holding , at Alexei’s head making him groan loudly , the three girls giggled while Nat smirked chuckling as she shook her head .
Yelena squeezed all of her nieces in a big tight hug making them groan before she placed kisses on their heads , Lottie looked around the living room , not seeing Fanny anywhere , Rose is allergic to fur so , Yelena made Fanny stay with one of her close friends for a couple of days , Eliza waved at Alexei making him excitedly wave back .
“ I’m going to go make dinner “ Melina stated , as she pressed a kiss on Rose’s cheek before heading to the kitchen , giving Wanda a nod to join her .
“ I’m gonna go help her “ Wanda told Nat , making her wife nod giving her a kiss as she went to follow her mother in law , Alexei came running to hug the kids after Yelena broke the hug , making both Rose and Charlotte run to Nat’s arms making her chuckle , holding the two of them tightly in her arms as she pressed kisses on their heads .
Alexei frowned , looking at Eliza who shrugged giggling “ why do you two hate me so much “ asked Alexei in his strong Russian accent , going to lift up Eliza in his arms before walking towards them , Nat rolled her eyes while Yelena snickers “ probably because you’re gross “ laughed Yelena , Alexei gave her an offended look .
“ I’ll give Eliza all of the hugs , chocolates and candies I have then “ Alexei said as he placed Eliza next to him on the couch , giving her a lollipop from his pocket , Charlotte looked up at her mom frowning .
(I just noticed this bit is missing when we tried to copy it☹️☹️)
Nat took Rose’s plate putting some pasta and vegetables on the side , Wanda and Yelena doing the same , taking the twins plates and placing some chicken nuggets and vegetables on the side too .
“ do you girls wanna have a movie night? “ asked Melina , pouring some water in a glass for herself and taking a sip , the twins nodded “ yeah! That’s sounds good! “ Rose replied excitedly making Nat give her a smile kissing her head before she started eating .
Dinner is going pretty well , Alexei kept his mouth shut , which both Wanda and Nat were grateful for , Nat and Wanda were having a conversation with Yelena , while Melina was listing the bored games she have , to the girls so that all of them can play together after dinner .
“ uno sounds good , all of us can play “ Rose said , eating some of the vegetables while her sisters nodded agreeing with her “ alrighty then , I’ll get it out after dinner “ replied Melina smiling at the girls who smiled back at her .
After dinner they all sat down in the living room floor , playing uno “ Eli baby don’t cheat “ Nat said looking at her youngest who’s looking at Lottie’s cards , Eliza rolled her eyes playfully giggling “ uno! “ said Yelena putting a 4+ card making Alexei groan , standing up and throwing his cards aside “ you can’t make me take four extra cards Lena! You guys already made me take 12 extra ones! “ he whined going to sit in the couch , they laughed at him while Melina rolled her eyes at his childish behavior .
After some time , Wanda was the one who lost , like she almost always does “ why don’t we go wear your guys pajamas? So that after the movie night we can head straight to bed yeah? “ said Wanda , smiling softly at her daughters , Nat nodded agreeing with her .
The girls had their own room , and so did Nat and Wanda , the farm that Melina bought was bigger than the one she had in Russia , the farm in here had four bedrooms , four bathrooms , a huge kitchen , dining room and a living room.
“ arms up bubba “ said Wanda to Eliza, making her lift her arms up so her mama could put her princess pajamas on , Wanda gently slipped the pajama top on Eliza’s head before kissing her cheek when she finished . She smiled softly at Nat who’s braiding Rose’s hair gently, with Rose leaning on her as Nat spoke to her and Lottie softly .
“ come on baby “ Wanda gestured for Charlotte to come over , Lottie hopped out of the bed with her teddy in her arms , going towards her mama , Wanda took Charlotte’s princess pajamas that matched with Eliza’s , before pulling Lottie gently in front of her while Eliza went to sit next to Rose with her bunny in her lap waiting for her turn , so Nat could braid her hair .
“ arms up my love “ said Wanda smiling , Char nodded lifting her arms up making Wanda gently slip the pajama top on Charlotte’s head , Wanda giggled scrunching her nose when Lottie hugged Wanda afterwards .
Nat already braided Lottie’s hair and now she was done with Rose’s , Wanda opened her arms for Rose to come to , which she did , as she pressed kisses on both Lottie and Rose’s head , cuddling the both of them tightly .
Nat kept poking Eli’s side getting giggles from her while she’s braiding her hair “ mamaaa , can you tell mommy to stop pleasee? “ Eliza pouted making Nat laugh , as she continued with braiding her youngest hair .
“ natty please stop tickling my baby “ giggled Wanda , Nat nodded smiling “ my bad sweetheart “ she said kissing Eliza’s head when she finished , Yelena knocked on the door before coming in “ I’m just gonna take what’s mine real quick “ said Yelena, making Nat smile when she saw her sister , taking Lottie out of Wanda’s arms “ thank you very much “ laughed Yelena , putting Charlotte on her shoulder making her giggle before leaving the bedroom .
“ don’t drop her Lena! “ said Nat lifting Eliza up in her arms , standing up to follow Yelena out of the bedroom , Wanda scooped Rose up in her arms before leaving the bedroom .
Yelena ran downstairs with Nat yelling at her to not run down the stairs with Lottie in her arms , but she just ignored her not wanting her niece’s giggles to stop , she kept running reaching the living room before playfully throwing Charlotte on the couch , getting a loud laugh from Lottie , Eliza quickly got off of her mommy’s arms running to Yelena “ my turn , my turn! “ she said , Yelena laughed picking Eliza up on her shoulder before throwing her next to Lottie on the couch .
Melina had a smile on her face watching this and Nat was laughing at her daughters faces when she threw them , while Wanda was telling Yelena to stop , because they might get hurt “ oh come on Wands , don’t kill the fun , come here Rosie munchkin “ replied Yelena gently taking Rose to her arms , and throwing her playfully next to her sisters making her giggle .
“ I made popcorn! “ said Alexei holding three bowls in his hands , one of them was Toffee popcorn for Eli and Wanda while the other two were salted popcorn , Melina smiled kissing him before taking the toffee popcorn bowl out of his hands , giving it to Wanda .
Nat sat down on the couch pulling Rose to cuddle with her , Wanda doing the same with Eliza , there really wasn’t a space for Lottie , so Yelena opened her arms for Lottie to run to , and she did .
They were watching Mamma Mia , Alexei had his arms wrapped around Melina , Yelena had Lottie’s head on her chest as she held her closely , Nat had Rose laying between her legs with her back rested on her front , as she opened her daughter’s braids so she can play with her hair while watching the movie , Wanda had Eliza sat on her lap with her head resting comfortably on her chest .
When the movie ended , the girls were very sleepy and tired when the movie ended , so Yelena kissed her nieces goodnight , and Melina gave each one of them a hug and a kiss before Nat lifted both Rose and Lottie in her arms , Wanda had Eliza up in her arms .
They took their three daughters to their bedroom , putting them down gently on the bed , Eliza was laying on Wanda’s side , and Rose was laying on Nat’s side of the bed and finally Charlotte was laying down in the middle of her moms .
Nat went to grab Lottie’s blanket and bunny , since she already had her teddy in her arms , before she went back in their room , chuckling at her daughters sleepy faces .
She got in bed pulling Rose closer to her , and wrapping one of her arms around Lottie , Wanda was snuggling with Eliza and rubbing Charlotte’s shoulder while telling a bedtime story at the same time , Lottie was the first one to drift off to sleep , holding her teddy and bunny close to her .
Eliza knew that Char is going to sleep with her moms because she was scared of the scary Alexei was telling , matter in fact she’s now scared herself , but kept silent , she can sleep with Rosie. Rose doesn’t mind at all , plus she gives really good cuddles .
Nat gently lifted Rose up , Wanda doing the same with Eliza , as they went to put them in bed , tucking them in and giving them their goodnight kisses .
Wanda turned off the lights and closed the door behind her , making Eli jump out of her bed , grabbing her blanket and two stuffed animals and running to Rose’s bed . Getting under the covers , Rose pulled Eliza closer to her , not questioning her about why she wanted to sleep next to her , because she already knows why .
Wanda kissed Nat goodnight , before getting in bed both of them snuggling with Charlotte , as they had a quiet small conversation before drifting off to sleep themselves

hear me out.. angsts/fluff fic with nat. R comforts her after her dad di3s!!? She tries to push r away but ultimately gives in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
¬ warnings: cursing, depression i guess? mentions of death/suicide and past abuse, established relationship between reader and nat + gn!reader
you've only been with nat for a few months now, but you already feel like you know her to her core. not because she talks much about herself — god knows how difficult it is to get her to open up — but because you've gotten good at reading between the lines when it comes to her.
she oversleeps when she's feeling down. she bites at her lip when she's bored; she bites her nails when she's anxious. she provokes and picks fights at school when something happens at home. she plays more aggressively at practice when she's feeling insecure. she tries to get into your pants when she's frustrated.
you don't know what the hell it means that she hasn't been to school in three days and won't pick up your calls.
you assume she's just sick the first day — but you still find it weird, considering she was fine when you saw her yesterday. you get very concerned on the second day, especially when nobody picks up the phone five times in a row. you're worried sick the third day, and you decide to pay her a visit.
as you walk to your car, it does strike you as a possibility that she is just sick, and that you're being dramatic, but you can't risk it. if something happened to her—
"hey, uh..." you hear lottie's voice as she stops you in the parking lot, her hand on your shoulder. "i heard about natalie's dad today. is she... how is she?"
her dad? "what are you talking about?"
her expression shifts from one of concern to one of realization. "you don't know?"
Tumblr media
"nat!" you shout, banging on the front door of her trailer. "nat, come on! open up!"
you've been trying to get her to let you in for a few minutes now, getting more desperate as time passes. your hand started hurting sometime between the third and fourth time you knocked, but the pain seems insignificant compared to the possibility that you'll finally get to talk to her.
"nat! baby, please. please, i need to see you. i need to make sure you're okay. please."
there's a sound on the other side; someone walking to the door.
"nat?" your voice is softer, gentler.
she doesn't respond right away, and you assume she won't at all. you're about to call out for her again, when you hear her unlocking the door. when she finally opens it, you're faced with a starved body and the most tired eyes you've ever seen.
"oh, honey."
she's still silent when you pull her in for a tight hug. she remains still for a moment too, until she weakly hugs you back, her face buried in your shoulder. you don't let go until she moves away first, minutes later, leading you to her room.
you wouldn't say she's a very neat person in general, but the place is messier than you've ever seen it be. there's a dozen cigarette bums on the floor next to her bed — since when does she smoke inside? — and the rest of her room is covered in various junk, ranging from actual trash to stuff like her clothes. you swear some of the shirts on her bed are her dad's, too.
she doesn't have to tell you anything for you to understand the breakdown she's been having for the past three days.
both of you sit on the bed. your eyes are fixed on nat; nat's eyes are fixed on the floor. you gently take her hand into yours, stroking it with your thumb. you wait until she speaks up first.
"what have you heard?"
"it doesn't matter. i want you to tell me what happened."
"are they saying i shot him?"
you hesitate, unsure how to respond because yeah, that's what lottie implied. but lottie heard it from mari, who heard it from her parents, and you don't consider that a very reliable source of information.
"because i almost did. not that it matters that i didn't, anyway. i'm still the reason he's dead."
her voice breaks a little when she says that, and your heart does too.
"nat, look at me." you say, bringing one hand to her cheek so you can turn her face towards you. "it's not your fault."
she laughs humorlessly. "how the fuck would you know, anyway? you don't even know what happened."
"it's not your fault." you repeat firmly.
she clenches her jaw, but the look in her eyes is more sad than frustrated. it takes her a while to start talking again. it's in a much quieter tone.
"he was getting really pissed off about something so fucking stupid." she begins. "he, uh, hit her again. like, nearly drew blood."
her breath hitches. you wait for her to continue.
"i just couldn't bear it anymore, you know? it was like something had snapped in me, and i... i went to get the gun. pointed it at his head." her voice is becoming shaky now. "but the fucking safety was on. and he took it from me, and— and he accidentally fired it off."
you barely blink, or breathe. you just stare at her, your own eyes welling up as you watch tears rolling down her cheeks. you want nothing more than to hold her in your arms forever, making sure nothing bad ever happens to her again.
"nat..."
she continues. "and it's not like he didn't deserve it, you know? he's the worst person i've ever met. and the most stupid one too, i guess, because how do you accidentally blow half your head off? but i still feel so guilty and so... i don't know."
you shake your head. "you can't feel guilty about this, baby, please. i know it's hard but you need to listen to me when i tell you it's not your fault, okay? please."
she looks away again, and you know it's going to be difficult to actually get through to her, but you're not giving up so easily. you drop your hand back to hers, grabbing it a bit more tightly this time.
"why don't you stay with me for a while? it can't be healthy for you to dwell here."
"my mom—"
"should take care of herself." you interrupt her. "i want to be here for you right now and i can't think of a better way than getting you out of here."
"being somewhere else won't make it easier for me to talk about it."
"and you don't have to. we can just... i don't know, cuddle and finally have that movie night date we've been talking about. i'll even cook dinner for you."
she snorts. "yeah, no. you'd burn the kitchen down."
you roll your eyes fondly, lightly smacking her arm. "is that a yes for the other things, at least?"
"yes."
you smile and pull her in for a kiss. it's gentle, more intimate than any other moments you've shared throughout your relationship so far. she pulls away after a few moments, leaning into you as you wrap your arms around her.
"come on then," she murmurs into your shirt, "let's pack my things so you can take me home."

On the back of the ask about Sugar and Steve, I have a scenario... again! I'm always coming up with sad scenarios, sorry 😭❤️
It's one where Steve and Sugar are on a mission together but something happens and Sugar ends up getting kxlled right infront of Steve, he's holding her after she's been attacked and she passes in his arms, how would he deal with this? Would he completely break down or would he hold it together until he got back to tell Bucky and the kids?
I have a scene in my head of him being so inconsolable and walking off the jet with her back at the compound and he's just sobbing while carrying her 😭
He sent a message back beforehand to let them know the mission didn't go to plan and that the kids weren't to be there when they got back so Bucky right away knew something bad has happened so he's waiting for them and he witnesses Steve bringing her out 😭💔
I feel personally attacked by this.
Trigger warnings: major character death, major angst, many many many tears.
To lose you
Steve was a second too late.
A step or two away from you and he couldn’t protect you. He felt helpless as he knelt down beside you.
He heard your last breath, the last beat of your heart. He watched as the light dimmed from your eyes. There was nothing he could do to change this. To bring you back to life, if he would switch places with you he would in a heartbeat.
But it was too late now.
All he could do was sweep you up in his arms and carry you back home and that’s what he did.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bucky stood by the hangar entrance from the moment Friday announced your arrival. The A.I. mentioned not to allow the kids to be present but didn’t give a reason. That put him on alert and he dreaded the worst.
The worst is what he got.
The moment Steve stepped out of the yet he fell to his knees.
“NOOOOOOOO!” A sob ripped through Bucky as he watched Steve carry your lifeless form in his arms.
With what little strength he had he picked himself up and ran toward Steve, who was red in the face and inconsolable in his own right. Repeated murmurs of I’m sorry fell from the blond’s mouth but Bucky couldn’t be bothered. He ripped you from Steve’s hold and sat on the floor with you in his lap.
“C’mon Sugar, open those pretty eyes for me, please.” Bucky begged over and over while softly rocking himself back and forth. “Please baby. C’mon wake up. Y/N please don’t do this to me.” His voice breaking with every word.
By now the team had also walked out to see what was happening. There were gasps and rushed instructions given.
“You can’t leave me. We’re supposed to get old together.” Bucky says as he takes your left hand in his. The ring he’d placed on your finger two years ago was now tainted red with your blood.
Steve stood a few feet away and watched as his best friend broke down. It fed the guilt he was already feeling but nothing could ever prepare him to see the kids just inside the doorway. Lottie’s eyes were darting back and forth between Bucky and Steve. Henry was standing beside her, his arm around her shoulder. Steve could already see the sadness in Henry’s eyes but the little boy stayed strong for his sister. Steve took a step in there direction but Lottie turned to Henry and began to cry. A muffled ‘mama won’t wake up’ was heard and it was straw that broke the camel’s back.
Everyone had only been rushing to try and help but now the truth was sinking in and no one took your loss easily. Nat and Sam rush to the kids to get them out of there. Tony pushes the medics forward. When the medics got close to Bucky to try and take you he threatened them.
“No one touches her.” He snarled as he gripped you tighter. “I’ll take her. I’m supposed to take care of her.” He said softly as his thumb moved back and forth over your cheek.
“Buck, I’m so-“ Bucky shut Steve up with a glare that could kill.
“This is your fault. I begged you not to take her. To ask someone else.”
Steve swallows down his emotions and tries but fails to blink back tears.
“I never wanted this to happen.”
“Yeah, tell that to the kids when they’re crying for their mom.” Bucky finally gets up and cradles your body before walking off.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The next few weeks were horrible. The loss was felt through out the compound. The funeral hadn’t been easy to attend but everyone did anyway.
The only person that blamed Steve was Bucky. Steve knew it was the grief but it still hurt because he believed he was at fault. The guilt worsened when he’d hear Bucky crying in his room or when the kids asked for you. They were both spiraling because of the same loss but couldn’t be there for one another.
It was late one night when Steve heard the front door open and close. He wouldn’t be surprised if it was Bucky to come and get revenge. Steve wouldn’t stop him. He sat at the edge of his bed and waited. When the footsteps stopped at his open door Steve finally looked up.
Lottie stood there with her pink teddy bear. There were dark circles under her eyes and her face was red from crying. She sniffled and played with the hem of her shirt as she stared right back at Steve.
“What are you doing here. Sweetheart?” Steve’s voice was hoarse from lack of use.
“Mama don’t wike it when Steebie’s sad.” She said quietly and that nearly broke him again.
Lottie ran to him and threw her arms around his neck, pressing her forehead against his.
“Keep mama safe, Steebie.”
****
Steve blinked away the tears pulled away from Lottie. She was staring intently at him.
“What?”
“Keep mama safe, pwease Steebie?”
“Hey Rogers, are you done?” Steve’s head snaps towards the jet and there you were, standing by with Peanut in your arms. “Hello? Shouldn’t we get going? I’d like to make it home for bedtime.”
“No, we’re not ready. Friday, tell Sam we need him on the mission.”
“Why do we need Sam?”
“Trust me, it’s better if we have back up.” Steve says before turning his attention back to Lottie. “Thank you sweetheart. I’ll keep your mama safe.” He kisses her forehead and sets her down.
Lottie runs to you and wraps her arms around your waist. You give peanut to Bucky and give Lottie and Henry a few extra hugs and kisses. Then you’re off on your mission with Sam and Steve.
This time when Steve comes back, you’re walking out of the jet right by his side.

Surprise!!! I needed a happy ending!!

forever is the sweetest con
Summary: "You know you should be angry when your girlfriend mentions that she kind of wishes your best friend was also here on your date. But if you're honest with yourself, which you rarely are, you kind of wish she was too. Things have been different with Nat in the last year since you and Lottie got together; Just how different, is the question."
A/N: Lottienat x reader! Cowboy Like Me part 2. You don't strictly need to have read Cowboy Like Me to read this, as long as you know that Lottie is your girlfriend and Nat is your best friend.
“God, Nat. It's only 2 PM,” You say teasingly as you slide onto the barstool across from her. “Already hitting the bar?”
“Already hitting the bar?” Nat mocks in a high-pitched voice as she rolls her eyes, but you can see just a hint of a smile appear as she looks up from the glass she's cleaning.
You prop your head up on your hand as you set your backpack on the seat next to yours. “Busy day?” You ask.
Nat gives you a crooked grin as she shakes her head. “Mmm, no. But we had–”
“Always taking up seats from paying customers, ” Your boss Paul complains as he walks in from the back. You make a show of looking at him and slowly looking around the empty bar, a few regulars strewn about drinking in silence and a man dressed in a suit passed out on the other end, before looking back at him. He grumbles in irritation before adding to Nat, “If you're gonna sit here and talk on my money she better order something.”
Nat holds her hands up placatingly before giving you a questioning look. You hum thoughtfully as you look at her before asking, “Can I get some water?” Nat snickers quietly as Paul storms off to the back. She hands you the glass before walking off to wake the drunk businessman up.
You sit at the bar doing coursework for the next few hours, making sure to pointedly take a sip from your water every time Paul walks out to glare at you. He storms out at 5:59 PM with a smug look on his face, certain he's going to be able to tell you off for it, only to see you smiling innocently as you pour a drink with your backpack hidden behind the bar.
Bartending wasn’t ever something you saw yourself doing, especially working for a man like Paul at his shitty dive bar, but you can’t deny how much you enjoy doing it. Admittedly, that could be because you're working with your best friend. You’d think now that you’re living together you’d be sick of seeing her all the time, but honestly, you think you might be seeing her less than ever. Between Nat working full time and your course load, you barely saw her until you decided to start picking up shifts.
Your girlfriend Lottie stopped by almost as often as you did, happy to sit at the bar when your shifts overlapped to monopolize both of your time. You couldn’t deny her efficiency. You think it might be the only reason that Paul puts up with you doing homework at the bar, as your girlfriend throws enough free money at him when she’s here that he tolerates your presence in order to keep her coming. It certainly wasn’t out of the goodness of his heart, as you all agreed he didn’t have one.
Lottie was initially less than pleased with the change. She knew you were going to have to get a job, but she found the hours you were working to be rather irritating. She'd had some… rather convincing arguments about why you should get a retail job instead, but you managed to hold strong on that particular decision. It had grown on her after a while as she rather enjoyed the sight of you in a black button-up. Besides, she'd missed Nat too and seemed oddly excited to see her as well.
It has surprised you how much Lottie grew to love Nat, but you certainly weren't going to complain. You'd worried a lot about Lottie and Nat not getting along once the nature of your relationship with Lottie changed, but all of your worry was for naught. In fact, they seemed to enjoy ganging up on you together almost as much as they enjoyed hanging out with you. Overall you were pretty pleased with the situation, even if Lottie had started abandoning some of your study sessions when she got bored to go hang out with Nat instead. You never could get Lottie to focus on any one thing for too long at a time.
Besides, it made you feel a lot better knowing that Nat wasn’t walking home that late by herself all the time when you weren't working– you didn’t exactly live on the best side of town. Your girlfriend offered to let both of you move into the large two-bedroom apartment her father is renting for her, why he thinks she’ll need that much space you’ll never know, but Nat full out refused to accept it. You of course would never leave Nat to have to move in with some random ass roommate who would more than likely murder her as she didn’t exactly make an imposing figure.
Still, as you curl up next to Lottie in the one bed you brought from home with the temperature as high as you can afford to keep it you curse both Nat’s pride and your loyalty. Nat clears her throat awkwardly and you peer over Lottie’s shoulder to look at her. “I can go sleep on the floor–” Nat starts.
“No,” You and Lottie say in unison, rolling your eyes at Nat. Nat grumbles quietly as she buries her head in her pillow, seeming a little uncomfortable on the other side of the bed. Now that you've gotten a good look at her you notice how cold she looks.
You and Nat had gotten used to cuddling together for warmth since you’d moved in, and you’re nearly kicking yourself for forgetting about her. You think guiltily of all the times she must have shivered across from you while Lottie was staying over.
“You're shivering,” You accuse, shifting up on your elbow to get a better look at her. Lottie makes a displeased noise as you pull away, her eyes blinking open as just the hint of a pout graces her face. “Come here,” You say, moving the arm wrapped around Lottie's back to tug at Nat's arm.
“I'm good here,” Nat says.
“Nat,” You groan. “You're obviously cold, just come here.”
“I'm not even cold,” Nat lies, badly. If it wasn't so dark you'd be able to see the blush spreading across her face at the idea of cuddling up to the two of you
“Don't be a baby,” You mutter, tugging at her arm again.
Nat scoffs. “I am not being a baby,” She defends immediately as her head snaps up from her pillow.
“That's what someone who's being a baby would say,” Lottie says wryly.
Nat sputters for a response before groaning in irritation. You can faintly hear the sounds of her cursing both of you out under her breath as she scoots closer. You bury your head back into Lottie's shoulder, the tips of your fingers brushing against Nat's body as you wrap your arm back around Lottie. Lottie makes a contented noise as she's pressed between your body and Nat's side
It's quiet for a long moment before you add, “Now, was that so hard?”
You hiss in pain at the pinch that gets you from Nat, grumbling quietly as she snickers.  “You never quit while you're ahead,” Lottie murmurs against your ear.
“Mm. No,” Nat agrees, the smile evident in her voice.
“Fuck both of you,” You mutter.
“Fuck both of you,” Nat and Lottie both mock, just a second out of sync. Nat immediately starts cracking up, and you can feel Lottie shake with silent laughter.
“Oh, whatever,” You mutter, pushing against Lottie's shoulder as you pretend to move away.
“No,” Lottie whines, her arm tightening around your back as she pulls you closer. “Cruel and unusual punishment.”
“How quickly you give in,” Nat accuses wryly.
“It's not my fault Y/N went nuclear,” Lottie complains.
“Mhm,” Nat murmurs. “Sure.”
Your eyes slip shut to the quiet sounds of their bickering, content to drift off in the comforting weight of Lottie’s arms.
You catch Nat’s eyes over Lottie’s shoulder in the morning, giving her an amused look. Nat’s face creases in confusion for a moment before looking down at her arm. Her face flushes in embarrassment as the realization of her position sets in. It seems that she’s found herself spooning Lottie at some point in the night. She glances at you guiltily as she scoots away, clearing her throat as she slides out of bed and walks off to the bathroom. You laugh quietly as you see the amused look on Lottie’s face. She’d pretended to still be asleep to spare Nat the embarrassment, but you had no such qualms.
Nat groans as she walks into the room, her nose scrunching up in distaste. She quickly replaces it with a feigned smile as Lottie glances over at her, upper body damp and covered in soap in her attempt to wash the dishes. Nat leans against the counter next to you as she murmurs, “Is Lottie trying to make breakfast again?” You nod solemnly as you choke down another bite of burnt toast. You slide the plate with your runny eggs over in front of Nat as you quickly make your exit to go get ready for class.
You ignore the sound of her frantically trying to convince you to come back as you start brushing your teeth, effectively leaving Nat to her fate of either finishing Lottie’s cooking or upsetting her. You spit your toothpaste out with a sigh of relief as the taste is finally washed out of your mouth. You love your girlfriend, truly, but you wish you could ban her from ever entering a kitchen again. Nat shoulder-checks you on the way out, glaring at you as she rushes to brush her teeth too. the smug look you send her only seems to irritate her more, but you take the narrowing of her eyes as a sign to get the fuck out of there.
You press a quick kiss against Lottie’s cheek as you grab your bag and rush out the door. You don’t quite feel safe from Nat’s wrath until you're on the bus towards college, but even then you know she’s just going to get you when you least expect it. As the sweet taste of the granola bar you stuffed in your bag for emergencies fills your mouth, you can’t deny that it was worth it. As you pull your bag out in the lecture hall to find that every single pen, pencil, or highlighter has been taken from your bag you start to wonder how true that statement was. You can’t deny that Nat moves quickly.
“Hey, Y/N,” Nat calls out as she enters the kitchen. You hum in acknowledgment but don't look up from your textbook. Your eyes were starting to cross from the strain, but you only had a few pages left. “What is this?” Nat asks as she flops down in the seat across from you. You glance up to see Nat holding a toothbrush.
“A toothbrush,” You offer helpfully, hiding your grin as you look back down at the textbook.
“I know that,” Nat mutters irritably, a hint of fondness still peeking through despite herself. “I also know that there are three toothbrushes in our bathroom and only two people living here.”
“Maybe I bought a second toothbrush.”
“And it just happens to be purple, Lottie's favorite color?” She questions.
“Heliotrope,” You murmur distractedly, finally giving up on finishing your reading. “Lottie's favorite color is Heliotrope.”
“What's the difference?” Nat asks wryly, holding the toothbrush up to the light to examine the color.
You shrug. “Fuck if I know.”
“And the clothes in the closet? Those just happen to be yours too?”
You close the textbook with a soft thud as you lean forward and rest your head on your hand. “Something you want to talk about, Natty?” You tease.
The grin on your face slowly fades at the unreadable look on Nat's face. You hesitate for a moment, unsure how to address it before saying “She can stay over less if it's bothering you, Nat. We can start staying at her place more.”
“No, no,” Nat says quickly, almost a little panicked. “That's not it, exactly. I just…” She trails off. She looks a little frustrated as she buries her head in her hands with a loud sigh.  “I dunno it’s kind of lame, I guess.”
“Nat,” You say softly.
She pulls her hands away as she looks at you, hair messy from where her hands were touching it. “Don’t you and Lottie think it’s like… super lame that I’m here all the time? Three’s a crowd and all that?”
“Hey,” You say soothingly, reaching forward to grab Nat’s hand. You eye the toothbrush that Nat’s dropped on the table at some point, making a note to buy Lottie a new one. What Lottie doesn’t know won’t hurt her. “You're my best friend, Nat. I’ll always want you here.”
“What about-”
“Lottie does too,” You interrupt, giving her hand a firm squeeze. “I know she does. Lottie’s not shy, remember? You’d know if she didn’t like you.” Nat nods slowly as she considers what you said.
“Besides, if I had a problem about anything it would be you spooning my girlfriend every night,” You tease. Nat gives you a weak glare.
“Shut the fuck up,” She mutters, voice tinged with embarrassment. “It’s cold.” You give her an amused look, not even dignifying that with a response.
Her eyes slowly fall onto your clasped hands. You watch curiously as a blush slowly appears on Nat’s face. She pulls her hand away suddenly, clearing her throat awkwardly.
“Good talk,” She mutters as she stands up and walks off. You can’t help but laugh. Nat’s allergy to emotional conversations was well-documented at this point.
“Love you too!” You call out, hearing Nat make a vague noise in response.
“Y/N?” Nat calls out as she pops her head into the doorway. You clear your throat awkwardly as you peek your head around the shower curtain.
“Yeah?” You shiver at the rush of cold air that greets you, already mourning the loss of warm water.
“Have you seen my hoodie? The Yellowjackets one?” She asks, looking a little frustrated.
You pause. “I… I can’t say that I’ve seen it in a while,” You say guiltily, trying not to look at the pile of clothes you’ve left on the floor. Nat’s eyes narrow immediately, knowing you well enough to tell when you’re lying.
“Is that right?”
You nod, feigning the most innocent look you can.
“So it’s not going to be in your hamper?” Nat asks dryly.
You grin smugly as you shake your head. Nope, definitely won't be there. You think. Nat seems surprised at your sudden confidence, leaning against the door with her arms crossed as she considers the situation. You think you’d almost get away with it if it wasn’t for the sudden giggle behind you.
You stiffen immediately as you glance back to give Lottie a dirty look. She sticks her bottom lip out in an exaggerated pout in an attempt to look cute as she steps closer, but the immediate change in her expression as she gets hit with a face full of water from the shower head she’s on eye level with does little to further her agenda. You snicker quietly as you turn back to face a shocked-looking Nat.
“Has– has Lottie been there the entire time?” She asks in disbelief. You shake your head innocently.
“Lottie? Why would Lottie be here?” This time when Lottie giggles you can’t deny your urge to join, making Nat sigh in exasperation. Lottie wraps her arms around your stomach as she presses up against your back.
“Water’s going to get cold,” Lottie complains in your ear, pressing a kiss against your neck. You and Nat both agree without words to not acknowledge the way the top of Lottie’s head sticks out above yours. Nat finally glances down at the floor in an effort to hide her embarrassment, her cheeks flushed red at the thought of what she’s interrupted when she finds her hoodie lying amongst your and Lottie’s discarded clothes. Nat scoffs as she steps forward and snatches the hoodie out of the pile, turning around and stomping out of the room.
You share a wide-eyed look with an amused Lottie who seems overjoyed to have you to herself again. Just as you're about to turn around to face her you can hear the sound of Nat’s thudding footsteps as she walks back in. Nat, somehow even more flushed than before, tosses your bra back into the pile of clothes on the floor. “It was– it was– hoodie. In the hoodie,” She sputters, practically running out of the room in her haste to leave.
Going to a planetarium wasn't exactly your idea of a good time, but the tickets were free and you were broke. Besides, you knew Lottie would love that shit and you were right as always. Admittedly you had a different idea in mind upon realizing you were the only ones in the theater, but Lottie was far too happy watching the constellations appear. She'd even made a little game of making you guess them, but you think she mostly just enjoys knowing things you don't.
“And that one?” Lottie asks fondly. You eye it critically, trying to see it abstractly but failing hard.
“A branch?” You offer helplessly. Lottie's face lights up as she giggles, burying her head in your neck to muffle it. She pulls her head back, still shaking with silent laughter to look at you. Her hair is messy and her forehead is red from where she was pressing it against your shoulder.
“A branch?” She asks, pressing a hand against her mouth as she tries not to lose it.
“Yes! Look at it, Lottie. There’s the stick,” You defend amusedly, pointing at the screen. “And then it branches off. Therefore, branch.”
“That’s Taurus,” She says quietly, a smile splitting her face. “The bull.”
“That’s bull!” You mutter, sending Lottie into another round of laughter. “That’s more ridiculous than the stick.”
“You’ve got to look at it-”
“Abstractly, I know,” You quote wryly. You’ve been losing this battle for the better part of an hour. “Where’s Nat when you need her? She’d see the branch too.”
“Nat thinks the curtains are just green,” Lottie points out. “Not sure if you want her on your side.” You scoff, going to defend her before slowly relaxing back against your seat.
“Yeah,” You breathe out, defeated. Lottie grins smugly, squeezing your hand affectionately as she revels in her victory. She leans her head against your shoulder as the slide show moves on– you understand why the tickets were free now– happy to be here together even if you feel like something is missing.
“Is it weird that I wish Nat was here?” Lottie asks quietly after a few minutes. You lean your head on top of hers as you consider it. Your first instinct is to be offended: your company isn’t enough to entertain your girlfriend? But after you move past your initial hurt you strangely find yourself agreeing with her. You kind of wish Nat was here too. It was kind of strange to realize it, given that Lottie was the only person you’ve hung out with without wishing Nat was also there. Nat’s been your best friend just about as long as you can remember, but you do think that things have been different lately.
You sigh, giving Lottie an embarrassed smile as you say, “I tried to invite her.”
Lottie giggles quietly, giving you that secret little smile she saves just for you. “Mmm. And how'd that go?”
“She laughed in my face, ” You admit with a shrug. You knew better than anyone that this wasn't really Nat's scene– it wasn't really yours either– but you'd still been a little sad when she declined.
“Sounds like Nat,” Lottie comments, letting the moment go as she turns back to the screen. “And that one?” You groan.
You and Lottie laugh quietly at each other as you stumble into the doorway, not wanting to separate long enough to walk properly into the door. Lottie nearly takes the both of you down as her foot catches on the doorframe, sending both of you careening into the room. You curse quietly under your breath as your back hits the side table, Lottie bumping into you and further pressing you into the corner currently digging into you. Lottie quietly laughs her way through an apology, hands running up the back of your jacket as she checks for ‘damage’.
“Sorry, sorry,” Lottie murmurs, not looking at all sorry. She slips her hands up the back of your shirt, making you jump as her cold fingertips make contact with your bare skin. You gently tug at the neckline of her shirt as she leans down to kiss you, your hand sliding up to cup the back of her neck.
She pulls back with a gasp as your fingers tighten in her hair, her fingers flexing against your back as she tilts her head back to lessen the sting. You chuckle at the slight flush on her face as you lean up to attach your lips to her neck. She makes a pleased noise at the action, pulling you flush against her as she tilts her head back further.
You're overcome with fondness as she rubs circles on your back with her thumb as you kiss your way across her neck. She lets out a loud moan as your teeth come into play, nipping gently at her neck. “Y/N,” She murmurs suddenly, pulling away with a guilty look on her face. “Is Nat asleep?”
“What? No,” You say dismissively, trying to move back to Lottie's neck. Lottie takes a step back with an amused look on her face as she looks down at you.
“Where is she then?” She asks, grinning as if she's caught you in a lie.
“It's Friday,” You remind her. “Nat's working tonight.”
Oh, She mouths, looking surprised. She gets over it quickly as her face lights up. She grabs your hand and laces your fingers together as she drags you off to your bed, pointedly ignoring your laughter as you eagerly follow behind her.
You wrinkle your nose at the smell of Lottie's cigarette as you bury your face further in her chest in the hopes of escaping it. Lottie strokes your hair with her free hand with a murmured sorry as she laughs out clouds of smoke. You'd never really gotten the taste for them yourself, too bitter and chemically to ever hold your attention, but you couldn't help the nostalgic feeling that came over you whenever that acrid smell filled the air.
Suddenly you were 13 again, coughing your way through the pack of cigarettes Nat had nicked from her dad. You hadn’t been the most enthusiastic about the idea to start with, but you’d been goaded into many things at the sight of Nat’s crooked grin. Nat had always seemed so cool, larger than life even, ever since you were kids. You hadn’t– and still haven’t– ever seen a kid as intimidating as Nat seemed back then. Sometimes you think you’d do anything she asked of you as long as she watched you with that proud grin of hers afterward; When you're being honest with yourself you know that you would.
You got so sick afterward that you've never touched another one since, but Nat was never able to kick the habit. You'd spent many a cold winter day leaning up against a brick wall trying to pull your jacket impossibly closer as you talked with Nat as she smoked. You lived for those quiet moments shared only between the two of you. You’ve always been the most important person in Nat’s life, you’ve never doubted that, but something about the sanctity of that space has always made you feel important. You’re never more honest with each other than you are then, as if the clouds of smoke have brought you somewhere else entirely.
You'd almost laughed the first time you watched Lottie light up, the air filled with the achingly familiar feeling of home. It was almost funny: the smell had always been a comforting reminder of Nat– a way to bring her with you no matter where you went– so of course Lottie would be a smoker too. It felt like fate, sitting on Lottie Matthew’s porch as she lit up the same cheap brand that Nat smoked. You suspected Lottie probably stole them, but you never cared enough to ask. You'd let them have their secrets, they always came to you when they were ready.
You were startled out of your thoughts by the sound of the door opening, you and Lottie sharing a panicked look as you both stumbled your way out of bed to pull your clothes back on. “Guys?” Nat calls out cautiously as she softly shuts the door, clearly unsure if you're awake.
“Yeah?” You call out, trying to sound nonchalant. You quickly pull the rest of your clothes on as you join Nat in the kitchen. Your face lights up at the sight of the brown bags on the table.
“You got dinner this late?” You ask happily. Lottie presses a kiss against your head as she slips past you to the table. You and Nat share an amused look as Lottie finds her food and digs right in, happily ignoring the rest of you as she eats.
“Hungry, Lot?” Nat asks wryly as she slips into the seat across from her. Lottie shrugs, a hint of a smile on her face.
“Long day. Used a lot of energy, you know?” She glances over at you when she says it and you pointedly clear your throat as you slide into the chair next to her. Nat glances back and forth between the two of you suspiciously but ultimately decides to let it go.
You end up talking long into the night, so tired by the time you all finally stumble into bed that you can barely keep your eyes open. Whether it was by chance or conscious choice you were never quite sure, but as you collapse into bed you fall with Nat in the middle. She seems a little unsure as the two of you cuddle up to her, cheeks flushed and expression unreadable, but makes no move to stop you. If you had to pick a moment that the change in your relationship truly cemented, this was definitely it: head resting on Nat's chest as you listened to the soft thumping of her heart.
You stare at Lottie open-mouthed as you try to take the situation in. “So I’m not hearing a no,” Lottie says, trying to seem nonchalant but failing as her voice shakes with nerves. She takes a slow slip from her drink– which you absentmindedly notice looks a lot like the cups from work– as she watches your expression closely. You sputter uselessly for a moment before you finally manage to get your mouth to work correctly.
“You want to date Nat?” You ask, the hurt clearly creeping into your voice. Lottie’s eyes go wide as she chokes on her drink in shock, holding one finger out to tell you to wait as she coughs out the water she swallowed wrong. Normally you’d be nearly keeled over laughing at her, but you’re so upset that it doesn’t even seem that funny.
“No, no,” She chokes out in a panic, shaking her head frantically. “Well, yes,” Lottie says after a moment of consideration. “But like you and Nat.” She makes a vague gesture with her hands as she tries to signify all three of you together, but can’t seem to find a configuration for it and ends up dropping her hands awkwardly into her lap.
You feel all the tension in your body drain out as you slump back in your seat. You bury your face into your hands and groan, slowly dragging them down to fall limply on the table. “You couldn’t have found a better way to word that?” You ask, voice tinged with a slight irritation. Lottie shrugs apologetically, blowing you a kiss in lieu of an actual apology. With a roll of your eyes you clarify, “So you want to date both of us? Like a throuple or something?”
Lottie nods, crossing the kitchen to prop herself up on the table as she sits on the edge of it. You sigh, running your hands up Lottie’s thighs as you wrap your arms around her back. You bury your head into her stomach with a muffled sigh, nuzzling your face further against her as she starts running her fingers through your hair. “Is it really a surprise to you? I thought that you– that you felt it too. Don’t you?” She asks guiltily, a tinge of desperation entering her voice the longer she speaks. The hand she’s got resting against your shoulder clenches tightly around the neckline of your shirt as if she’s afraid you’ll leave her here if she gives you the chance.
“I've never thought about her like that,” You say slowly, as if trying to convince more than just Lottie.
Lottie sighs, fingers soothingly massaging your scalp. “You can lie to me, but don't lie to yourself,” She says softly, gently pulling your head away so she can look at you while she speaks.
“She's… She's my Nat,” You say helplessly as you look up at her.
Lottie nods as she cups the side of your face. “I know, Y/N,” She murmurs. She gently strokes the side of your face with her thumb as she adds, “What are you so afraid of?”
“I don't want things to change,” You admit, eyes tearing up as your vision blurs. “What if… What if it's different? What if she doesn't want–”
“What if she does, though? What if she wants it too and is too afraid to ask. Wouldn't you, if you were Nat?” Lottie interrupts, wiping your tears away with her thumb.
“Do you really think so?” You ask hesitantly.
“I think it's more difficult for you and Nat to see because your relationship has always blurred those lines,” She says. Your eyes widen as you quickly try to deny it but she holds a finger up to your lips.
“I'm not saying either of you did anything wrong. I just think you've been so close for so long that you don't realize that it isn't a normal friendship,” Lottie continues, looking a little embarrassed as she adds “I was pretty jealous of your friendship before we started dating.”
You lean back against your chair, honestly stumped as you think about the implications of what she's said. Have you and Nat always been like this? “I know you were jealous when I kissed Nat at the party, but–” You start.
“It's not just about the party,” Lottie says wryly. She's got that expression on her face that you've seen teachers use when they're talking to small children. You try not to be too offended over it. “The two of you have a way of making everyone around you seem like they don't exist. Like they don't matter as long as the two of you have each other.” Your face softens at the admission, squeezing gently at her hips.
She smiles as she shakes her head. “You've never made me feel like that, though. Not since the party. That's why I know that Nat feels the same. You'd never be able to look past each other if she didn't.”
“Besides,” She adds with a smug grin.” I've seen the way she looks at us when you're not looking.“
Your eyes widen in glee. “She…” You trail off expectantly. Lottie shakes her head in exasperation.
“She was getting more than a glance in that shower. You really didn't notice?” Lottie asks. You pause. Now that you think about it, she was getting quite an eyeful.
The more you know.
“So you're 100% sure that–”
“Y/N!” Lottie groans, burying her head in her hands.
Nat groans in irritation as she looks over at you. “Stop doing that shit,” She accuses.
You wonder idly if you always walk this loud or if it’s your own nerves that make every step feel like it’s echoing down the street as you walk home. You think it’s probably the nerves, or at least you certainly hope it is. You glance anxiously down at your shoes as you walk just in case, wondering if Nat’s hearing it too. No, that was stupid. Cut it out. You think, shaking your head as if to clear it from your mind.
You almost want to back out of the promise you’ve made, knowing that you’ve already made enough of a fool of yourself tonight. It’s not your fault that the idea of confessing you and your girlfriend’s attraction to your best friend was driving you up the walls. Sitting on that knowledge would psych anyone out, right?
God, why did you let Lottie talk you into asking Nat about it yourself? You knew damn well that Nat wouldn’t react well if it was the both of you– she tended to strike out if she felt like she was backed into a corner, after all– but you desperately wanted Lottie’s support right now. You don’t know why you're so nervous, it’s only Nat. But that seems to be the crux of the issue: it’s Nat.
You can’t remember the last time you’ve ever been nervous about telling her anything, and you're absolutely falling apart in the process. You know that she must know that something going on, how could she not; Nat’s always known you better than you know yourself. It’s one of the things you love most about her, the shared ability to speak without ever saying a word.
You clear your throat awkwardly, purposely avoiding eye contact as you look over at her. You're almost thankful for the darkness as you can’t quite make out her expression, knowing that it means it’s hiding the blush you know must be present on your own face. You feel an intense flash of guilt you fear at the uncertainty on her face. You knew she had to have been picking up on your weird mood all night, but you never wanted to make her feel bad about it. Nat tugs anxiously at the sleeves of her jacket, pulling it tighter around her as if to better shield herself from the world. Nat’s always done that when something makes her feel small and insignificant.
Fuck.
“What’s up?” You ask hesitantly. Nat stops in her tracks, watching you carefully as you stop a half-second later.
“What’s up?” She asks pointedly. “You dropped enough glasses tonight that you probably lost more than you made and now you’re doing whatever the fuck this is!”
The first thing you notice is how frustrated she sounds, and you can’t help but shrink slightly under her gaze. She’s glaring at you and you can suddenly understand why people used to jump out of her way in high school. You’ve never had that look directed at you before so it takes you a second to come to terms with it, which is the only reason it takes you so long to notice. She looks hurt. Her jaw trembles with it like she’s doing everything she can not to cry.
“I’ve… Just got some things going on, is all,” You mutter, flashing her a weak smile.
“I know that, Y/N,” Nat says with a scoff. “What I don’t know is when we stopped telling each other things.”
“Nat, I–”
“I’m not done speaking,” She interrupts. You nod solemnly. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed how fucking weird you’ve been lately. You and Lottie sharing all those little looks when you think I can’t see them.”
“Yeah, that’s right!” Nat adds as your eyes widen in surprise. “I’m not fucking stupid, Y/N.”
“I don’t think you’re stupid, Nat,” You say gently. “I… I guess I’ll just go out and say it, yeah?” Nat nods stiffly, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. You’re gracious enough to pretend that she isn’t crying, knowing that she wouldn’t appreciate being called out on it when she’s feeling this vulnerable.
“Okay,” You murmur slowly, tapping your fingers anxiously against your thighs as you try to hype yourself up. Nat smiles fondly at the gesture despite herself, glancing away so that you can’t see it just a second too late. It’s the last push you need to gather your courage together as you blurt out “Lottie and I have a crush on you.”
“What? Slow down. I didn’t catch any of that shit.”
You groan. Again? “Lottie and I… have a crush on you.” Nat makes a surprised noise, anxious hands falling limply at her sides.
“Like… Both of you? At the same time?” Nat asks aloud, clearly just voicing her thoughts.
You watch nervously as her mind races, scuffing your shoe against the ground as you try to look literally anywhere else. She hasn’t run screaming all the way home, so it’s already going better than you feared it might. You hate when Lottie’s right: she’s always so smug about it later.
Nat slowly starts walking, still deep in thought, and you quickly speed up to fall into step next to her. You try to let her have her space to think it over, but you can't help but glance over at her every few seconds to see what she's thinking. The two of you are completely silent the rest of the walk home, and now you really do think Nat can hear your footsteps. There's certainly not anything else to distract from it.
You curse silently to yourself, wishing you'd stuck with your initial urge to keep it to yourself. What if–
“You can say no,” You offer suddenly, the deep silence feeling like daggers piercing your skin the longer it lasts. You climb the stairs behind her as you make your way up the stairwell to your apartment. That in itself felt strange given that you'd always walked side-by-side. You figure that it could've been worse. Had the elevator been working, a first in the six months you lived for, you would've been stuck in a box with her. Small mercies.
“What– What am I even saying no to?” Nat asks quietly as she wrings her hands.
“Going out with us. Being our girlfriend,” You rush out, deciding it's probably beneficial to be as blunt as possible with Nat. You can tell from her sudden exhale that she appreciates it and you relax in kind. Her hands finally relax as she goes digging in her pockets for her keys, unlocking the door and holding it open for you.
You watch her every movement carefully as you walk inside, leaning against the arm of the couch as she steps in behind you.”Can I think about it?” She asks. You nod quickly, a little too quickly you think given by the sudden twinge of pain in your neck following the action.
“Yeah! Take all the time you need, or whatever. I'll just be here,” You trail off awkwardly as you look toward the couch. You should probably sleep on the couch, right?
“You're not sleeping on the couch,” Nat says wryly, as if she's read your mind. You startle slightly as you whirl your head around to face her.
“Don't fucking make things weird, idiot,” She mutters, rolling her eyes. Nat steps past you to walk towards the bedroom, but not before taking the chance to push you over the arm of the couch you've been sitting on. You land on the cushion with a soft thud as you’re left staring up at the ceiling, no worse for wear as your legs hang uncomfortably over the arm. You grumble at the sound of her laughter as her footsteps sound down the hall.
You wouldn’t say the next few days were awkward, but only because Lottie made you promise not to say anything about it. Many times over the last few days you’ve caught Nat looking at you or Lottie only for her to quickly look away the second she realizes that she’s been caught. You weren’t sure whether those interactions should leave you feeling hopeful or not, as they often left you feeling quite glum, but Lottie kept insisting that “no news is good news.”
You’ve often found Lottie’s moods to be quite infectious in the past– no one was having a good day if Lottie wasn’t– but you’ve found yourself to be curiously immune this time around. You tried not to let Nat catch you moping around the apartment, not wanting to make her feel guilty, but the more time that passed the more you began to regret speaking up in the first place.
You’re lamenting this once again to a long-suffering Lottie who idly traces circles across your stomach as you lie on the couch with your head in her lap. “You’ve just got to give her time,” Lottie murmurs knowingly. She’s probably said this about a dozen times by now, and you’d normally get annoyed at receiving the same response every time if it wasn’t for the fact that you’ve lodged the same complaints just about as many times. Your girl had the patience of a saint, but even she had to be getting a little annoyed with you by now. You feel a little guilty at the thought, especially knowing that Lottie would never say anything about it.
It’s been so tense with everything going on with Nat lately, and the only person you really wanted to talk about it with was unavailable for obvious reasons. You’re left with a strange sense of loneliness, one that you haven’t been familiar with since you were a child. You thought you’d long forgotten what the dreadful years before Nat had moved into town were like, but you’ve found yourself stuck back in them just as easily as you had left them behind.
It made you ache something fierce as it forced you to think about how lonely Lottie must have been growing up. You wouldn’t know it from talking with her, but sometimes she gets this look in her eyes when she thinks no one is watching her. It’s only a pale reflection of the look you saw so many times on her face as a child, but it still pulls at your heartstrings. Just the thought of that resigned look on her face and dull eyes as she swung in silence during recess has you tearing up. You wish so badly sometimes that you could take it from her, that you could go back in time and push two desperately lonely children together. Still, the thought that always comes to mind is whether it would mean never meeting Nat. You’re not sure you could ever trade one for the other.
You force yourself out of your gloomy thoughts to give Lottie an apologetic look as you reach a hand up to cup her face. Lottie closes her eyes as she nuzzles into your hand, pressing her cold face against the warmth of your palm. Her expression is relaxed and open as she reclines against you, stunning even with her cheek smushed unflatteringly against your palm. She remains motionless save for the rise and fall of her chest with every breath.
Her stillness reminds you suddenly of old statues of goddesses, untouched and immortal; The knowledge they’re made of cold marble contradicted by the strange feeling that they’d be soft if only you reached out and touched them. But she’s so much more than a mere monument: she's flesh and blood, kindness and warmth. She's filled with an endless curiosity about the world that leaves you with an awe bordering on reverence. She's a goddess in all but name, and there is no altar that you would not worship Lottie Matthews on.
As if sensing your gaze she opens her eyes to give you a toothy smile, the edge of her pointed canines peeking out just enough to make you smile in turn. You silently mourn the loss as Lottie moves her head to watch the door a moment before it suddenly swings open. Nat steps inside slowly and she looks around, seemingly feeling an equal measure of surprise and relief to see the two of you relaxing on the couch.
“Hey,” Nat says awkwardly, a little unsure. “Could we… Could we talk about that thing you brought up the other night?”
You glance up at Lottie who gives you a reassuring smile as she slips her hand back out from beneath your shirt. You sit up and scoot to the other side of the couch, purposely leaving Nat the seat in the middle. Nat eyes it anxiously before gathering her courage and plopping down on the seat between you. You cross your legs as you turn to face her, leaning back against the arm of the couch. Nat glances back and forth between you as if she can’t decide where to look. Lottie snickers at Nat’s indecisiveness, ironically helping her make the decision as she turns to glare at her. Lottie just grins in response, winking at you over Nat’s shoulder. Nat groans as she relaxes back on the couch, head thrown back lazily as she stares up at the ceiling.
“I’ve been thinking–” Nat starts.
“Oh no, did you hurt anything?” You interrupt, earning yourself a quick flick to your arm. You hiss at the sudden sting, giving Nat a weak glare that she shakes off easily as she continues.
“I thought it would be different when you and Lottie started dating. Most people have less time for their best friend when they get a girlfriend, y’know?” Nat exhales slowly, turning her head to face you. “Kept waiting for it to change. For you to ditch me a few times to hang out with Lottie fucking Matthews instead. But it just never happened.”
“Nat, there’s always going to be a place for you in my life. You know that, don’t you?” You hold out your hand and she slowly reaches forward to lace your fingers together. She’s got a look on her face that you’ve never seen before as she looks down at your joined hands. She squeezes your hand before turning to look at Lottie.
“And you…” Nat trails off.
“And me,” Lottie says with a perfectly feigned smile. Lottie always hides her nervousness in her hands, and you can see the way she idly picks at the skin around her manicured nails.
“You’re not at all what I thought you were, you know that?” Nat asks. Lottie looks surprised, but her smile suddenly turns genuine as a hint of a flush rises to her cheeks. “We spent nearly four years on that team and never spoke, but still I thought I knew exactly who you were: You walked around in those expensive clothes you probably bought with Daddy’s money, to store in your walk-in closet. And then…”
Nat stops to laugh, shaking her head in disbelief. “I found out you fucking stole them. From TJ Maxx of all places.”
“They have good clothes,” Lottie says unrepentantly. “You’re… You’re not who I thought you were either.”
Nat’s smile fades a bit as she asks, “Not as big of a burnout as you thought, huh?”
“No,” Lottie laughs, “I used to think you were cool, you fucking loser.”
Nat scoffs, looking back at you to playfully ask, “Are you going to let her talk to me like this?”
You shrug. “As if I could stop her. She’s got a mind of her own.”
“She can hear you,” Lottie says dryly. You hold your hands up placatingly, dragging Nat’s hand up with yours. Lottie hums in acceptance, but you have a feeling she’s going to bring it back up when you least expect it.
“Got a little off track, but uh…” Nat says, tentatively holding her free hand out for Lottie. “I wouldn’t mind dating you. Both of you, obviously.” Lottie holds her hand up to Nat’s as she compares the size of their hands, grinning smugly before she laces their hands together.
“We should probably talk about this more,” You acknowledge, sharing a look of understanding over Nat’s shoulder with Lottie.
“Definitely,” Lottie breathes out, as she leans in toward Nat.
Nat’s eyes are blown wide as she glances back at you as if asking for permission. You just laugh, raising your free hand to gently turn Nat’s head towards Lottie as their lips meet. You're content watching as they move against each other, Lottie quickly getting lost in the hurricane that is Nat Scatorccio. You’d almost be sympathetic if you didn’t know she was giving it almost as good as she was giving it. Your normally composed girlfriend pulls away with a quiet gasp as she loses the battle against her need to breathe. Her cheeks are flushed, and she almost seems overwhelmed. Nat turns to you with just a hint of a smirk, and you surge forward with the knowledge that you no longer have to ignore the urge to kiss it away.
After a few hours of actual conversation, spread out among other activities, you find yourself lying across your bed next to Nat. You’ve been watching Nat try to guess the constellations Lottie’s been tracing across her bare back for the last ten minutes, each guess more pitiful than the last. You think she’s just making them up at this point. Judging by the look of amusement on Lottie’s face, you figure that she’s definitely clocked on to that long before you did.
You stretch out lazily as you lean closer to steal a quick kiss from Nat. She smiles dreamily at you as if it still seems too good to be true. You can’t help but return the look, snuggling impossibly closer to her. “Don’t distract her,” Lottie whines playfully. Nat groans as she buries her head into the pillow.
“This is impossible,” She complains, voice muffled by the pillow. Nat sighs. “Orion?”
“Orion?” You ask in disbelief.
“I don’t know any other constellations,” Nat mumbles.
“You’d know more if you didn’t skip out on going to the planetarium,” Lottie comments wryly. You and Nat share a look as she feigns a fearful shudder. You bite lightly at her shoulder in response, laughing at the surprised yelp it earns you.

Okay so the results are in and Jackie won so, here it is. I changed the summary a little from what I said on the voting thing but I hope you guys still like it anyway :)
Summary: Jackie gets drunk and gets into trouble at the celebratory party Lottie's hosting at her house for the team winning nationals and reader has to intervene.
And as an extra thing, incase idk, but Lottie's dad pays for a coach to take them to nationals instead (since I'm headcannoning in this it's cheaper, and low key a lot less dangerous cause yk).
Also skip anything that's in colour if you don't want to read any pretty detailed stuff.
Lastly, this is gonna have some homophobic slurs in (promise it's for a reason, although they do have a line through them), which I know can be a trigger for people, so please don't read it after seeing this and then complain I didn't put a TW, because I usually don't so this is a curtesy.

It was all gonna be over soon, both the fans and the rest of the people in the small stadium knew something had to happen or it'd go to penalties.
You watched from your place on the bench (having been benched earlier in the game because of a shitty tackle), as in one swift move, Shauna tackled the ball from the opposing teams striker running far away from them before quickly approaching another player. She looked up as she heard Nat shouting her name from further up the pitch, before passing the ball to her.
Nat had control of the ball, running up the rest of the right wing to see Tai and Lottie keeping tabs on the other teams two defenders that were near the goal, and the team captain, Jackie, free of any other players, but keeping wary so she didn't go offside, running between the two of them toward the goal. Seeing no other defenders, Nat gave the ball a rough kick, causing it to fly across the sky, landing several feet in front of Jackie.
While continuing to run as hard as she could with the ball to get a closer shot on goal, Jackie heard the rest of the team, including yourself, and the fans cheering for her to kick the ball. Taking a deep breathe, she kicked the ball a couple feet away from her before she pulled her right leg back and swung it forward into the direction of the ball, but slipping just before the kick had fully been executed, causing her to fall, making her skid on the slightly muddy grass before rolling onto it just to the right side of the goal.
Everyone in the small stadium and on the pitch gasped watching this happen as the ball soared through the air, seeing it reach close to the goalie's hands that had spread out when she dived into the air. All of a sudden, the ball hit the back of the net, causing the stands to erupt with a round of applause, causing the girls and the fans from the other team to groan.
As soon as this has happened, and the referee blew the whistle for full time just afterwards, you screamed happily and threw the ice pack you had been using for your leg onto the ground, before running limply over to your girlfriend in her spot where she was now knelt in front of the goal, as a chorus of chanting came from the cheer team as the rest of the team came running over to her.
They'd done it, the Yellow Jacket's soccer team from the small town of Wiskayok, New Jersey, had won soccer nationals for the first time in school history. Once you had run over to and embraced your girlfriend in the biggest hug ever, the two of you were quickly surrounded by the rest of the team.
Once all of you had your fun and had loosened the tight group huddle, having shouted at each other about how awesome that was enough, and people started clearing out of the stadium and the pitch, the team broke off into smaller groups starting to talk amongst themselves, leaving the two of you and a few of the others on the team talking in your small gatherings.
"You better be good a keeping your promises, Taylor." You stated to your girlfriend, holding her head softly in your hands.
"Oh baby, you know I never break a promise and I always keep my word." Jackie answered, smiling sweetly. Fuck, how you loved that smile of hers.
"You better." You replied, as the she smiled in response and you leaned in, still holding her head in your hands, and kissing her softly.
"Jesus Christ, get a room. Not everyone here wants to see you two making out." Someone behind you stated, causing both of you to pull away from the kiss and sigh softly, Jackie burying her head in the crook of your neck, blushing and giggling softly, knowing exactly who that was.
"Yeah thanks Van." You replied, remaining in your position on the field, putting your thumb up behind you, before waving her off and hearing the red head, and who you assumed to be Tai running off laughing about something else to join the others.
"C'mon," You said to Jackie, moving your legs around to stand up from being knelt on the short, prickly grass. "Let's get you cleaned up so we can head home." You added holding your hand out for her, as the blonde propped herself up on her knees rather then her previous position of also being knelt down, before taking your hand in hers, intertwining her fingers with yours, standing up and walking back locker room with the group.
-----
The two of you and the rest of the team headed back to the locker room, listening and singing along to music while showering and lightly washing some of the grass stains off of your guys' uniform and bodies, dancing in between doing that and getting changed to head back to New Jersey as winners. (I wasn't really sure on how to write this or the journey back, so I'm just gonna fast forward to the party)
-----
You (dressed in an oversized graphic comic t-shirt, black cuffed denim jeans, black leather jacket, black converse, chunky silver rings and matching silver heart necklace to Jackie's, with French braided hair, curtesy of Shauna) drove to Jackie's house and picked her up (dressed in a red mid-thigh flowy dress with white polka dots, blue denim jacket, a pair of white trainers, her gold heart necklace and neatly styled, flowy blonde hair) in your deep red Pontiac Firebird car, to drive both of you to Lottie's house, since her parents were out of town for the week, and to make up for them not being at the match let her have a party there if the team won.
Once you got there and parked up, the two of you headed inside to get a drink, greeted by Lottie and the rest of the gang trying to persuade Jackie to let her crowd surf them to celebrate, to which she declined, saying to wait until she was slightly less sober before doing that.
The 6 of you, the rest of the group (Laura Lee, Mari, Kristen, Akilah, Gen, etc), plus equipment manager, Misty (who you and Lottie had advised upon, and persuaded the rest of the group to let her be invited), started dancing and drinking inside, socialising amongst everybody there, being congratulated on the win.
Eventually, the few of you left (Mari, Kristen, Akilah, Gen, etc, either still inside or gone home) made your way outside and were gathered around yours and Shauna's car, discussing everything and anything.
After a while of talking, the group had turned to nicknames for everybody, since Van advised everybody to get one since we would be going down in the history books and should have a cool nickname. About halfway through this specific conversation, it was Jackie's turn for a nickname.
"How about 'Blue Flash'?" Laura Lee suggested, sipping on the liquid in the red plastic cup she was holding, standing between Misty and Lottie, in front of the backdoor of Shauna's car
"Mmmmm, nah." Most of you agreed.
"Sounds like a toilet cleaning brand." Nat replied, taking another hit of the joint she had rolled between her fingers, making everybody giggle.
"Haha, yeah," You said, laughing softly, "Plus we all wear blue, so it could be any of us." You added, which everyone acknowledged with some form of a nod.
"Ooooooh, I have one," Van interjected, leant against the passenger door of Shauna's car, all giddy off of her beer, "What about 'The Terminator'?" The red head suggested, causing everyone except Jackie to groan at the movie reference.
"Wait, which nerdy, sci-fi, film thing is that?" Jackie asked, sitting upon the bonnet of your car, taking a swig from the tequila bottle she was sharing with Tai and Lottie.
"It's the Arnold Schwarzenegger one with the sunglasses and the leather jacket." Shauna stated, finishing the last of her drink, while sitting on the bonnet of her car.
"Ohhhhh yeah, I remember that one. Continue." The blonde ushered, her voice echoing into the bottle.
"Do I even need to? I mean Jesus Christ, you're literally a machine, sorry Laura Lee." Van replied, apologising after. Getting a nod from the other blonde in acceptance.
"A machine, huh? Okay I'll take it." Jackie said, passing you the half bottle of tequila left, moving her feet around so they were lying on the bonnet, before standing up on it, prizing a remote from her jacket, pressing a button on it, making the music that'd been playing loud enough in the house for everyone outside to hear, to stop, causing everybody inside to groan and slowly make their way outside to see what's going on.
"What the hell are you doing? Get down from there, you're going to hurt yourself." You questioned, panicked, holding your arms out, ready to catch her if she slips.
"It's fine, I'm keeping my word, remember?" Jackie stated drunkenly, in a 'duh' tone.
"EXCUSE ME! HI, I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY!" The blonde yelled, waving her arms in the air trying to get everyone's attention, making everyone start cheering.
"YEAH OKAY, THANKS BUT WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ISN'T ABOUT THAT, SO SAVE THE SUCK UP FOR AFTERWARDS!" She shouted.
"HI THERE, SO THIS IS KIND OF SCARY NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, AND I'M ONLY PROBABLY DOING THIS BECAUSE I'VE HAD A FAIR AMOUNT TO DRINK, BUT I MADE A PROMISE TO MY FRIENDS AND TEAM MATES DOWN HERE," Jackie stated, pointing at the group of you, making the 7 of you cover your faces and wave awkwardly, "THAT I'D DO THIS IF WE WON, AND WE DID SO YEAH, HERE GOES NOTHING!"
"Oh shit." You mumbled under your breath, shading your face with your hand, knowing what was about to happen.
"RIGHT SO, UM YEAH, I'M GAY. YOU ALL HEARD ME RIGHT, I'M A BIG, FAT, LADY LOVING, LESBO, AND I AM DATING THIS AWESOME GIRL RIGHT HERE!" She stated, proudly, gesturing to you, as you raised your hand, offering a small wave. "AND IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT, THEN GO FUCK YOURSELVES OR YOU CAN TAKE IT UP WITH MY DAD! So yeah, that's it. You can clap now." She finished, playing the music again, quickly jumping down carefully from the car into your arms, turning to the rest of the group.
"How's that for being a machine?" Jackie slurred proudly, taking back the bottle from you, holding onto your forearms for support.
"You're fucking crazy." You stated, kissing her softly.
"Told you I never break my promise." The blonde replied, after breaking the kiss.
"Alright," Tai said, raising her cup in the air, "Here's to all of us being openly gay and going down in history" She added, toasting her drink, as the rest of the group cheered and did the same.
Just as you all toasted to that, and drank from your cup/bottle of choice, you heard a familiar voice behind you.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the dyke squad." Brad, the captain of the school football team, said, approaching the group, causing you all to roll your eyes in an attempt to ignore his arrogance.
"I mean, I expected the rest of you guys to be gay, but jesus christ, Y/N even turned prissy rich princess, Jackie Taylor, into a lesbo. I did not see that coming." Tommy, one of Brad's douchebag henchmen, spoke.
"Well you don't see a lot of things coming, especially people." You smirked, murmuring into the bottle of beer you were sipping on.
"What the fuck did you say!" Tommy shouted, striding up to you, getting all in your face.
"You fucking heard me, dipshit." You swore, smirking up at him, pushing him away harshly.
"Yeah, so back the fuck up, asshole." Jackie interjected, striding behind you, Van, Lottie, Tai and Nat following.
"Hey guys, come on, let's not do this here." Shauna piped up.
"Yeah, Shauna's right. Let's just call it a night and sort this out tomorrow." Laura Lee spoke up, trying to de-escalate the situation, before the six of you turned away from the two, walking back to the group.
"Yeah, listen to your little preacher friend and quit while your ahead, fags." Tommy replied, smugly.
"What the fuck did you call us?!" Jackie shouted, spinning on her heels, turning around and quickly pacing back over to them, you running after her, resting your arm around her waist.
"Hey it's okay, leave it, okay? Trust me." You said, looking at her softly.
"Yeah listen to your dykie queer, Taylor." Brad laughed.
Before even registering yourself what'd happened, Jackie broke away from your grasp, pulling her right fist back and punching him harshly around the face.
"Oh shit!" Jackie shouted, keeling over, holding her fist in her other hand at the pain of the impact.
"Bitch!" Brad fumed, holding his nose in his hands, feeling liquid pool over them.
"Crap, let's go." Tommy said, running off, Brad trailing after him.
"Oh my god!" You stated, rushing to Jackie, kneeling in front of her, the rest of the girls gathering around you.
"Son of a fuck!" She whined, raising her head softly to look at you, slightly off balanced from the alcohol.
"Here, let me look." You said, offering your hand out, as she placed her bruised fist in your hand, the group groaning at the site. "Can you open it for me?" You asked
"Jesus. H. Flaming. Christ." Jackie seethed, opening her sore, slightly blood-covered fist slowly, wincing at the pain.
"Yeah, that's definitely swollen, and very bruised." Misty piped up, being the only one with proper first aid training.
"Come on, get your ass inside. The party's starting to clear out anyway" Lottie piped up, "There's ice packs in the fridge and a first aid kit down the hall, use my room."
"Are you sure?" You asked, wanting to confirm it was okay, just in case.
"Yeah go for it, I honestly don't care. Plus, my parents aren't back for another week, that'll give me more then enough time to clean up." The brunette said, waving you off.
"Okay thanks, cheers Lottie. The rest of you guys get home, sober up and we'll talk tomorrow or something." Jackie stated, standing up straight, still holding her fist in her hand.
"Come on Cinderella, your carriage awaits." You said, opening your arms out, scooping her up and holding her in them, tucking one arm around her back, the other under her knees, making sure the skirt of her dress wasn't flapping around.
You carried her through the near empty house, gathering the ice packs and the bandages from their respected places, traipsing up the stairs with Jackie in your arms, to Lottie's room, setting her down on the edge of the bed, kneeling in front of her.
"You can't keep scaring the shit out of me like that, you're gonna give me a heart attack." You laughed, bandaging her knuckles softly.
"I know, but it's just such a pain in the ass that people think they can treat you like that. And not just you I mean everyone, why do people think they have the right to shout slurs at others just because they're slightly different to everyone else." Jackie vented, grasping tightly and releasing her other hand, to calm herself down.
"I don't know, pig-headedness I guess, or a nicer way of putting it, arrogance, or a less nice way of putting it, assholery." You shrugged off, finishing bandaging her hand, smoothing it off and kissing it softly. "But you can't go around punching people okay? We're adults now, and that's assault." You added.
"Yeah I know, still pretty cool though. I mean, like in the movies it is, but fuck they don't warn you how much it hurts." The blonde winced at the memory of the pain.
"True, but it's cause you had your thumb on the inside. You wanna punch someone really hard, you wrap your thumb around the outside, so the impact of the punch and having it on the inside could shatter your thumb." You stated, wrapping your own thumb around your hand, punching the palm of your other hand, giving off a loud smack.
"See?" You asked, flexing your hand, "No red marks and it didn't hurt."
"Ohhhhhh, that makes sense." She stated, "Although I wasn't really worried about hurting my hand, was more living up to my nickname then anything else." She added.
"Oh so you were trying to be my own person terminator or something?" You questioned, chuckling softly.
"Exactly like that. Your own personal terminator." Jackie giggled, looking at you softly.
"Well personally, I thought that was very sexy of you." You stated, leaning in closely.
"Oh did you now?" The blonde stated, leaning in closer, giggling softly.
"Mhm, very sexy, and you didn't even break a nail." You added, before closing the gap and kissing her deeply.
"I love you." She said, holding your head in her hands.
"I love you too." You replied, resting your hands over hers.

Jesus Christ, it's finally done. This honestly took longer then expected and having no internet for 3 days really put a wrench in the works, but it's done and I hope you liked it. See you in the next one.

Nat hunches over, panting heavily as the referee stops play. She looks up, glancing at the board displaying the time left and wipes the sweat from her forehead. Four minutes to go in regular time. Her gaze shifts to the centre of the field, where Jackie's firing off quick tactics to Tai and Shauna. It's 2-2 and if they don't somehow pull a win out of the bag, they're not qualifying for regionals. She glances back in the direction of the defenders where Van's gesturing for the outfielders to move upfield.
"Fuck," Nat murmurs, straightening up as the ref blows again to start play. This could be the last chance of the game. She starts to walk forwards carefully as Van boots the ball up the field, quickening her pace to a jog as Shauna rallies forward, dribbling confidently despite the pressure. Jackie calls for the ball up front, arm in the air to signal to Shauna that she's open. Shauna glances up to take in the scene before her and passes, the ball skidding against the grass in the opposite direction of Jackie and reaching Tai's cleats instead. Tai fakes left before quickly shifting her weight to the right, the defender fumbling and giving Tai a chance to advance further.
"Tai!" Jackie calls, in prime position in the box. Nat watches from the wing as a defender realizes Jackie's open, scrambling to mark her. But instead of sending the ball to the captain's feet, Tai's arms extend gracefully to keep her balance and her leg comes up behind her, ready to put power behind the ball. Nat's eyebrows raise in surprise. Taking the shot now is a gamble and a half, she's 20 yards from goal and the keeper's been strong today. Tai drives her cleats through the ball and Nat watches as it sails past Jackie in the box. It seems like time slows for a second and the world falls silent as the ball flies toward the top of the goal, the keeper reaching with everything in her to get her fingertips to the ball. But the silence is broken when the clang of ball against crossbar reverberates across the field, Nat's heart shooting into her throat as the ball lifts up and over the goal, the net cradling it as it glides to the ground.
"Fuck!" Tai screams, and the referee blows his whistle to signal the end of regular time. Half of the girls sink to the floor exhaustedly, but the others seem shell-shocked by what just occurred.
Jackie whirls around and Nat knows she's fuming by the way she storms across the grass towards Tai. Nat heads over, a few of the others jogging up as well.
"What the fuck, Tai!" Jackie shrieks, eyebrows furrowed. "I was wide open!" She turns to Shauna as she arrives in the now-formed small circle, looking sheepish. "And why didn't you pass to me in the first place?"
"I don't know," Shauna murmurs, her eyes not quite meeting Jackie's as her foot scuffs against the grass. "I guess I just thought Tai had an advantage, or something."
Jackie's brow furrows further as she crosses her arms defensively. "What, so you don't fucking trust me, Shauna? So much for-"
"Doesn't matter," Nat finally pipes up, her expression cold and voice low. "Maybe if Tai didn't think she's the next Mia Hamm-"
"I don't think I'm the next Mia Hamm," Tai hisses, looking down at Nat harshly.
"Yeah, she's a midfielder," Van says, having just arrived in the growing circle of girls. "She'd be more like the next Kristine Lilly."
"Not helping, Van," Lottie says, a smirk on her face as she leans on Van's shoulder.
Tai scowls, her eyes darting between the others. "This is bullshit. At least I had the balls to take a shot. Maybe if one of you had made a move quicker we wouldn't be in this position now." She looks up as the ref signals for additional time to start. "I am not letting this go to pens. Everyone get their heads out of their asses, and win."
Nat sighs as the group disperses, making their way back to their positions. Jackie claps her hands, trying to rally everyone in a last ditch attempt to give them motivation. Play starts, and Jackie takes the first touch. She passes back to Shauna who moves forward with purpose. Allie shouts from up on the left wing, a defender scuffling with her in an attempt to block a potential aerial pass from Shauna. She's ignored, though, as Shauna evades an opposing midfielder and passes forward on the right to Nat.
Nat springs into action, dribbling confidently in the direction of the corner flag, smirking when the opposing left-back advances. This is Nat's forte - one-on-one challenges against defenders. She stops suddenly, pausing the ball's movement as she places the toe of her boot on top, then flicks it backwards and away from the defender who's now right on top of her. She turns around quickly, her back to the defender as she shields the ball. The left-back makes a sound in frustration, her hand reaching out to grasp Nat's jersey at the back in an attempt to throw her off. Nat pulls away, the defender losing grip and stumbling. Nat takes advantage and darts past her, heading further upfield. She glances up, seeing Jackie in the box and sends in a powerful cross, the ball sailing through the air towards the team captain. It's in prime position for a volley, the opposing goalkeeper balanced in a set position with her eyes never leaving the ball.
Jackie lines up for the volley, eyes blazing with determination surely spurred on by the lack of confidence her teammates had in her earlier in the game. Nat holds her breath from near the corner flag, watching in anticipation as the ball falls towards the striker. But the volley never comes, Jackie suddenly crumpling to the ground as a defender makes a crunching tackle in the box.
"What the fuck!" Nat hears Tai yell, and her eyes widen as Jackie rolls on the grass. She cries out in pain and Nat's already halfway there by the time the referee's whistle blares. Nat falls to her knees over Jackie, eyes filled with concern. Lottie soon joins her, cradling Jackie's head and murmuring soothing words. Tai and Shauna are hounding the guilty defender with Tai landing a quick shove on her chest before the referee pushes them apart. Nat looks up with widened eyes as Coach Martinez arrives with his first aid kit.
"Is she gonna be okay?" Nat asks, wincing when Jackie howls as the coach straightens out her leg.
"I'm sure she will be," he replies, signalling for Coach Scott to come over and help Jackie off the field. "It was a reckless tackle but nothing's broken." Coach Scott helps Jackie to her feet, her arm slung around his shoulder as they make their way off the field, Jackie limping all the way. Shauna follows behind, face stricken with worry.
"Get ready," Nat hears, her head snapping back to look at the coach. "It's a penalty. I want you to take it." Nat freezes. She's confident on the field, but this is all happening so suddenly. The weight of the pressure sits on her chest and she blinks at the coach in surprise.
"Me?" she asks, head spinning. "Why not Shauna, or- or Tai? They're both good in front of goal."
"They are," Coach says, "but I know you have just as much potential as either of them." He stands, walking away without another word. Nat's left standing alone in the box as the others move away from the goal. She swallows thickly, trying to ignore the lump in her throat. She's not Tai or Shauna - she may not have the best gear or the best skill, but she has the confidence of her teammates and her coach, and she straightens her shoulders as she walks toward the penalty spot. The others watch on as Nat adjusts the ball on the spot, letting out a deep breath when she straightens up. She hears some of her teammates behind her, encouraging shouts filling the air - Tai's and Van's and Laura Lee's. The goalkeeper looks at her with fiery eyes, bouncing on the balls of her feet and arms stretched wide in the air. She crouches into her set position as Nat places her hands on her hips to steady herself, waiting for the blare of the whistle.
When the whistle blows, Nat takes her run up to the spot and strikes, sending the ball flying right confidently. The keeper dives the right way and Nat's heart stops as she sails through the air, arm outstretched with her fingertips just inches from the ball. Nat hears the roar of her teammates before she even realizes it - the ball hits the back of the net, landing right into the corner of the goal. She barely has time to grin before she's engulfed in a sea of yellow and blue, the girls jumping and hugging and surrounding her with the sounds of victory cheers ringing in the air. The whistle blows again, but this time it's the sound of three long blares. In all the chaos of Jackie's sudden injury, Nat didn't realize how late in the game it was - her penalty was the last kick of the match. She joins her friends in elated celebration, knowing that she's found a home in this sport and this special group of girls.

The wilderness dance
Tumblr media
Months and months had passed since the crash and yet, Natalie still didn't seem to forget about any single detail of that day, maybe it was her trauma or maybe she simply had way too much time to think. There wasn't much to do there other than trying to find food for the group out in the woods, making her way through the biting winds and frigid cold alongside Travis, their shared breaths visible in the icy air.
As the snow deepened, so did the challenges of survival. Natalie's days were spent navigating the treacherous woods, a dance of life and death with each hunt. Travis wasn't the best lately, too focused on finding Javi and forcing her to search and search for someone who, she thought, was already gone.
And just when she thought things couldn't get worse another silent struggle unfolded within the cabin. You, a soul caught in the icy grip of illness, grew weaker with each passing day. The others, sheltered beneath the same roof, watched as the flame of their vitality flickered in the cold winds of misfortune.
One evening, after a particularly long and exhausting hunt, Natalie and Travis walked back to the old wooden cabin. The wind blew on her cheeks making them sting, and as she reached for her neck to raise her scarf above her lips in an attempt to block out the cold, she noticed some leaves dancing around carried by the breeze, floating in the air almost trying to indicate her the way to the cabin, luring her in.
As she opened the rusty door, the other girls immediately looked in her direction, their eyes clouded with a mixture of sorrow and unspoken concern.
"Natalie, we need to talk," Lottie said softly from her spot in front of the crackling fire, her voice hesitant.
Natalie's heart pounded as she got closer to her, scared of what she was going to say.
"What's going on?" Natalie's voice trembled with a mix of anticipation and fear.
"It's about y/n" Lottie began, her eyes darting to the ground before meeting Natalie's gaze. "She has been getting worse... much worse."
A heavy silence hung in the air, broken only by the distant howl of the wind singing a melody for the leaves to dance to.
Without waiting for more, Natalie's instincts kicked in. She rushed past Lottie and the others, her heart racing, as if her very steps could hasten her arrival at the attic where you lay.
The room, dimly lit by a feeble lantern and a small fire the girls lit up for you to keep you warm.
"Nat," you whispered weakly as soon as you recognized her footsteps on the cracking floor, your voice a fragile, punctuated by fits of coughing that echoed through the small space.
Natalie knelt beside you, her eyes moist with a mix of worry and love. "I'm here," she whispered, taking your trembling hand in hers.
"I always feel better around you" you confessed, a faint smile playing on your chapped lips between labored breaths and coughs that grew more and more pronounced by the second, each one a painful reminder of your fragile state. Natalie stroked your hair and placed a cloth drenched in cold water on your forehead, trying to cool down your fever, knowing deep down that it wasn't helping much.
Natalie struggled to hold back tears, she had to be strong, but looking at you right now felt like staring at a ghost and she couldn't handle that.
She stood by your side for hours, just holding your hand and occasionally kissing your forehead, until, she saw the light in your tired eyes dim gradually to the point where even the smallest spark was gone.
"Promise me, Nat, you'll keep going" you murmured, eyes locking with hers for one last time.
Natalie looked down at you, tears streaming down her face "Don't say that" she almost begged, trying to pretend everything was going to be alright.
In your final moments together, the room seemed to hold its breath, as if the very air mourned the impending loss. Your frail hand clung to Natalie's, gaze pleading for a future you could no longer share.
With a final, raspy whisper, your breath faded away, leaving Natalie alone in the attic. The room, once a sanctuary, now echoed with the haunting silence of a love that had defied the frigid embrace of destiny.
