#and they become like amicable sorta exes and if they ever meet each other’s friends do you think Mac and Shirley would bond over religion?

I sincerely think if Dennis Reynolds and Jeff Winger were to makeout, it would benefit them both immensely, in fact, it’d be good for their health

°✧。× :  (  byun baekhyun  +  cis male  +  he/him  )  ───  welcome to roselake village, PRINCETON ‘PRINCE’ CHO !  oh, well, i suppose you’ve been here for THREE AND A HALF YEARS, so perhaps you already know your way around the town. well, you are the TWENTY FIVE year old GRADUATE STUDENT, though, right ? the harvest sprites told me about you ! they said you DO believe in the harvest goddess. oh, my. well, that explains why they also said you’re quite ADAPTABLE and INQUISITIVE, but can also be a bit SCATTERBRAINED and STOIC. either way, you should be a wonderful addition to our island ! i guess i’ll leave you to it now, but if i need you, i suppose i’ll just look for you at SUBTEXT, yeah ? we hope you love it here as much as we do ! oh, and remember not to go into the tulsy woods ! the musty smell of weathered edge book pages, caffeine fueled hand tremors after a sleepless night, leather satchel stuffed with haphazard papers and the occasional pacifier and teething toy  ! ✧ ( cece, 25, cst, she/her )
princeton was born in new york city into a comfortably upper middle class lifestyle. his parents were hard workers and never took what they had for granted but busy schedules and hectic jobs kept them from the softer parts of parenting. prince’s childhood was left predominantly to a nanny which would later on come to stunt some of his future socialization.
a bright kid, prince excelled at everything he set his mind to. whether it was learning violin at age 4 or beginning to read well before other kids his age, he tended to pick up on things rather naturally and from there, determination took over.
what he had in intelligence, though, he sort of lacked in common sense and street smarts. he could recite you multiplication tables but wouldn’t remember where he put his beloved toy. things of emotional importance tended to slip through the cracks in favor of gathering knowledge.
he was enrolled in gifted children programs from the start of schooling which tended to keep him away from experiencing the hustle and bustle of public school. some could say he was sheltered but it really allowed him to thoroughly explore the capacity of his learning and he decided somewhat early on that he wanted to be a professor or a scientist.
he went to some kind of upper echelon gossip girl esque style high school on a scholarship which gave him his first taste of ‘mingling’ and socializing on a real applicable level. he was bullied and ostracized at first -- too poor and too smart apparently being a really bad combination -- but he adapted
he started to use his looks to climb the ranks and then used his smarts in an interpersonal way instead of a brainiac way. instead of reading books, he read people. the awkwardly social kid because somewhat of a social butterfly but he viewed it more as an experiment than an actual acclimation to that upper east sider lifestyle.
prince had this air of calm intelligence about him that attracted people but he could also... come off as cold since the social warmth he maintained was a facade more than reality.
fast forward to college. he happily parted ways with his flimsy friendships and turned back to his academia. he went into ecology and started studies to be an environmental scientist. of course he excelled, lil nerd brain that he is. it also wasn’t until college that he tried his hands at relationships, dating, kisses and the like.
‘a late bloomer’ his parents said. ‘just high standards’ he’d counter.
his first girlfriend was a girl in one of his lab courses at uni. his first boyfriend was a TA only a few years his senior. by the time he applied for and was accepted into grad school, he had a solid handful of relationships under his belt, most of which ended amicably.
traveling to the island had been intended as a temporary thing. in his many nights spent in the uni library, he’d stumbled across vague archived information about roselake and wanted to write his thesis on the ecological impact of a false belief in the occult rather than science. could an island sustain its ecosystem when it was so reliant upon this ‘goddess’? clearly not since it seemed to be dying. he wanted to study and take samples and come back to his uni course with a kickass thesis.
at first, that seemed like exactly what he was going to do!
he arrived to an island in shambles and began his research. spending copious time at the local library, he eventually started meeting people, like-minded intellectuals, you know?
then he met her. where he was all cool, calm and collected, intelligence above all, she was summer: carefree and fiery all at once. she was as interesting a person as he’d ever met.
at first it began with her helping him in his research. she seemed to know more about the goddess, the rituals, the ‘inhabitants’ of the island than any book would tell him. they met for study dates. then they met for ordinary dates. over the course of a season they fell in love and suddenly, leaving the island didn’t seem like a possibility.
he extended his 3-month stay to 6-months. 9-months. a full year. he took up a ‘job’ writing and submitting research papers and that combined with some income from his parents sustained him.
he warmed up over his time spent with her and his mind opened up to things beyond science. they shared secrets as readily as they shared nights together. it was around the time she told him that she was a sprite that she also told him she was pregnant.
with her staunch belief in the goddesses wishes, she disappeared for a while to keep suspicions of her child’s half-human heritage. slowly he began to close off again without her warmth to keep him in bloom. they saw each other less and less but each meeting felt more secretive and precious.
the child was born, half sprite half human, of course. and he worried he’d never get to see her. his lil daughter airi :( instead though, the opposite came to fruition. suddenly his lover began acting erratically. she’d spend whole weeks hidden away at prince’s place with baby, the happy little family unit. she’d disappear some nights -- sprite things, she told him -- but despite the weird adjustment to his weird life, he was happy.
until she didn’t come back.
he never expected to be a father but he SURELY never expected to be a single father. other sprite friends of hers whispered frantically wondering if she left the island, if she went to the woods, if she was searching for the goddess all on her own. she was adventurous -- maybe it could happen!
but they looked at prince and baby with pitying glances and honestly, he felt like he was lost.
he threw himself back into his academics and has started back up on his graduate studies in full swing, working remotely, does some tutoring and still writes papers for money all while raising a baby. airi is 18 months now and he’s worried that her heritage will be more obvious now that she’s showing pointy lil ears and budding powers. (i imagine her mother as a sun or wind sprite but it’s gonna be a wc someday so i’m leaving it open) his family is also desperate for him to come back to the city but he’s just sorta.... taking it one day at a time.
he’s become a social recluse again and kind of a scatterbrained one at that. always finding stuff of airi’s in his bookbag and forgetting to pay the babysitter. the friendship circle of his ex kinda adopted him as theirs so pls give me those plots too
still kinda keen on the whole ecological aspect of the island if nothing else. his belief in the goddess is waning but he knows she exists. maybe some part of him thinks helping the sprites restore her might bring his former love back. but also it’s been two years so maybe he doesn’t want her.
SUMMARY TL;DR
like hes an ecology grad student who came to the island to research the effects of belief in something more occult than scientific on an ecosystem and wound up with a sprite fling, a half sprite daughter and a lot more belief in magic than he initially thought
