im gonna go out on a limb here and say that like. i get the frustration with how the world championship plot was handled overall, but at the same time i can’t quiiite blame the writers for struggling with these early bits especially considering ash is plopped right in the beginner class when he’s supposed to be a regional champion, so its hard to write episodes that are meant to build tension and have ash struggle to the top when he should probably be in the hyper class right away and have the audience naturally believe that it wont be anything but a cakewalk at this point

#and like yeahhh i get they couldve just. put him in hyper class. but i do get why they decided to go for all the ranks #bc then it shows off the world more and have ash connect with some more people #i think they just wrote themselves into a corner cause like its really awkward to have ash start at the bottom for narrative reasons #and they cant quite address the alolan elephant in the room #also ngl i dont think they knew what they wanted to do with ash in this season. which makes sense bc its the first season after #after winning a championship #that was always gonna be an awkward season to write bc right away you have to ask: what now? we cant just have ash lose the league again #and thats why i think goh is an equal protag to him and he tends to have a few more centric episodes this year #bc theres just more you can do with him bc hes so early in his journey #where with ash…. yknow. whats he gonna so. struggle against milo for a two parter and have us take that seriously?#echoed voice #jn lb #idk its just a hard thing to do and i think theres also some mandates involved and all that #we already know the jn production was an absolute mess in that last year so i wouldnt be shocked if it wasnt so smooth earlier as well
