I just had the absolute worst idea for a submas au.
WARNING LONG POST I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE READ MORE
Like. Ingo disappears, as usual. But people think Emmet killed him because of someone spreading misinformation that is taken as truth (no it's not volo i don't believe in evil volo. He's not immortal in this otherwise he would have come forward).
Emmet gets taken to prison while waiting for a trial and he has a rough time there for the little time hes in (i can't bring myself to leave him there for too long) because prison wouldn't be kind to a man like Emmet (autistic). But that's not even the main angst.
So unova is basically Pokémon America, right? I don't know about new York, or even how it works, but... There's death row in America isn't there?
Whatt if Emmet ended up on death row over false accusations? (HE DOES NOT DIE, I CAN'T HANDLE THAT.)
Ingo comes home with some of his memories on the day of his execution. He remembers Emmet, a little bit, and he's excited to see him again. He reappears at the station, and the depot agents are ecstatic to see him, before they remember what day it is and they realize Ingo has no idea. The very second Ingo realizes Emmet's in danger he starts sprinting across nimbasa towards the direction they pointed him in, hoping he isn't too late.
People who are gathered in front of the building, to say goodbye to Emmet, to protest, or even to get a good scoop, they see him coming and move to clear the way.
The security guards can't really do anything but yell at him when he climbs over the gate, there's too many people to shoot (tranquilizers. Pokémon police is only a little bit better ive decided) safely.
Ingo's coat becomes even more of a rag than it already is after that, but he doesn't really care. Be needs to find his brother.
Meanwhile Emmet is talking to his family for what he believes to be the last time. He is, understandably, a wreck. He's gone non-verbal, they took his clothes from him an the ones he's wearing now have a horrible texture and he's obviously inconsolable. Drayden and Iris (and Elesa, if friends are allowed in) don't say anything either. They know it wasn't him, that he could never do that but they couldn't prove it. How do you reassure someone who's going to die for no reason? There's still the matter of missing Ingo, too.
When an officer says their time is up he wordlessly gets up to follow her as his family is herded out of the room. Iris starts crying and he feels nothing but dread and grief.
Suddendly, they hear a door bursting open at the end of the hall, and yelling. And then someone tackles Emmet with enough force to break him out of the officer's grip, and then they've dragged him to the other end of the room, far away from anyone else, and then his vision is covered by a familiar, albeit tattered coat, and then several Pokémon burst out of their pokeballs to protect them, and then he finally, finally lets himself realize who tackled him, because despite how they're clearly out of breath they shout, at a volume he hasn't heard in years:
"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HIM!!!"
Emmet looks up to his savior. "...Ingo?" When did he start crying? It doesn't matter. Ingo is here now and everything will be alright again.

Reader takes post Hisui Ingo (and possible Emmet) to Sinnoh where he takes them to Lady Sneaslers cave, Ingo would probably find her fossil and be sad until Reader reminds him that they can now bring back well preserved fossils. Que Ingo and Ladys reunion (headcanon that fossils retain their memories cos its cute)
It took quite some time for Ingo to readjust to the present, considering at least five whole years have passed since he got thrown back in time...lost in the ancient region of Hisui.
You've been stuck there too, but eventually you made a deal with Arceus after "seeking out all Pokémon" as requested and capturing it:
If you released your cherished team back into the wild, it'll let you both go home. Of course, that wasn't an easy sacrifice to make, though after bidding farewell to the Pokémon that helped you save Hisui--and the world as a whole--Arceus did fulfill its end of the bargain.
It dropped you and Ingo off into a familiar underground subway, where Emmet so-happened to be patrolling alone at that same time.
He nearly passed out upon seeing that you both finally back home, especially his older twin.
Fortunately, he remembered everything about him the second they met eyes....leading to the brothers hugging and sobbing for a solid ten minutes together. You simply stood on the sidelines as Chandelure and Eelektross gave their trainers space and celebrated your return.
After the media caught wind of the good news, life pretty much resumed as normal--except the brothers put a temporary halt on their battle subway operations as you suggested a vacation to Sinnoh. Obviously Ingo's mind was still foggy, so he wasn't quite fit to resume any dual battles yet.
He did, however, wish to show Emmet what he learned of this region based on his experiences in Hisui--especially Mt. Coronet. He took you both to the cavern that used to be his warden post.
"I gotta admit, you're turning into quite the historian." Emmet remarked, looking all around as the three of you ventured further into the cave. Only your flashlight shined the path forward. "You were just..guarding this so-called "Noble Pokémon" from danger?"
"Indeed. That's exactly it!" Ingo explained with much vigor. "As warden, it was my duty to ensure Lady Sneasler's territory was protected and that offerings were delivered to her from time to time. Of course, I didn't think Pearl Clan would ever trust a stranger like myself. But it ended up being a wise decision on their part."
Emmet simply muttered an "ahh" in surprise, nodding his head as you and him continued listening to the older twin's story. He went on to discuss the baby Sneasels that were under Sneasler's care, saying they were cared for in this very cave and that you were nearing her den.
However, you three would soon happen upon a rather...unfortunate sight. But neither of you knew it yet until Ingo abruptly stopped in his tracks, having found something he wishes he could unsee.
"...oh, so...that's all there is now...." His voice turned flat.
"Ingo? What's wrong?" Emmet asked in worry.
"I think I know.." You frowned slightly, standing beside Ingo and flicking on your flashlight, revealing bones embedded into the dirt of the den.
But they weren't just any regular old bones scattered everywhere...
They made up the fossil of a certain Sneasler.
"..of course, h-how could I forgotten? She's gone.." Ingo bowed his head in mourning, feeling the ache in his heart growing as the reality of this discovery hit him hard. But even with the bill of his hat casting a shadow over his eyes, you and Emmet could see his lips tremble, tears sliding down both cheeks.
"M-My Lady..."
Hearing his voice break was something neither of you expected, but of course....you understood why.
This had to be a difficult thing to confront, knowing that the Noble he formed such a close bond with, the one who helped him in that lost and unfamiliar distant past...was now extinct.
There will never be another Sneasler like her again.
The only proof of her existence was kept within a fossil-
'Wait...her fossil...'
You suddenly remembered something extremely crucial, and smiled, knowing exactly how to help Ingo in his moment of despair. So you gently put a hand on his shoulder, trying to get his attention. "Hey, Ing-"
"I never even thought about what became of her until now.." He put his hand over yours, voice still trembling, as he believed you were only trying to comfort him. "We left so suddenly and...god, she must have been so confused. Did she think we abandoned her? Did she live out the rest of her days in anger or sorrow? Oh how I...I-I just wish I could see her one last time..."
"We can make that happen, Ingo."
"..huh?" Blinking, he stared at you with puffy eyes, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean? We can't go back-"
"We've got the technology to revive fossils, remember?" You reminded him, seeing his expression shift for a moment. And then recollection seemed to flash in his eyes.
"Ahah..that's right. I-I must have forgotten..." He chuckled softly, wiping away his tears as he finally calmed down. "Is it possible to fully restore her?"
"I believe so! Her fossil looks verrrry well-preserved!" Emmet nodded, happy to see his brother's smile again. "We must dig this up post haste! It'd be an honor to meet this "Lady Sneasler"."
"Then it's decided, gentlemen." You grinned, clapping your hands together. "Let's get to digging!"
.........
The excavation of Lady Sneasler's fossil went off without a hitch, and you wasted no time heading to Oreburgh's Mining Museum afterwards.
The scientist in charge of reviving fossils was initially taken aback by the odd skeleton piece you gave him, though he accepted it nonetheless and insisted you three waited outside until the process was complete.
Yet his words left Ingo nervous as he paced back and forth in front of the museum sign. He kept muttering train-related facts under his breath, trying to keep calm. But he couldn't help wondering if something could go wrong.
What if it's impossible? What if she's brought back wrong or without any memory of who he was?
Would she be terrified of the sudden changes that modern society brought and go berserk??
Did..any Fossil Pokémon feel that way when they were first revived?
Fortunately, as quickly as these concerns descended upon him...they were just as quick to leave when he heard a familiar cry and footsteps growing louder. And he turned in astonishment to see who came running out of the museum, a frantic scientist in-tow.
Both you and Emmet looked on, the latter surprised to see it was a tall Sneasel-like Pokémon with purple fur jogging over to you all. But you had a huge smile on your face, knowing very well that's the Noble you hoped to see again. She looked the same as she did all those years ago.
"I'm sorry!! I'm sorry!! I-It ran out the second I brought it back to life!!" He kept shouting.
"Halt! There's no need to proceed further!" Emmet barked, putting his hand up to stop him in his tracks. "Thank you for your services. We'll take care of her from here."
"...a-ah yes, of course! Sorry." Coughing nervously, the scientist smoothed out his ruffled lab coat, before heading back inside the museum.
"Sneas?" While initially confused at Emmet's presence, Lady Sneasler perked up at Ingo's voice as he approached her.
"My Lady..."
For a moment, she looked down at the man, at first not recognizing him outside of his tattered Pearl Clan garb. But after sniffing him a few times, the usually stoic Pokémon smiled warmly and ruffled his head gently. "Snea!"
"O-Oh, thank Arceus...you remember..!!" He beamed, although her mood suddenly switched as she huffed, before stepping back and crossing her arms, foot tapping with impatience.
The look in her eye told Ingo "you owe me an explanation big time".
But before he could speak up, you intervened, knowing it was really your fault that they never got to properly say goodbye to each other. So you explained everything to her, and she seemed to understand, given how her facial features gradually softened.
After nodding her head in respect, she turned back to her warden, embracing him in an act of forgiveness. At first he was in shock, though he returned the hug seconds later, tears of happiness streaking down his cheeks this time.
He'll worry about how Lady Sneasler will adapt to this new world later on...but for now he just wanted to take in this moment.
You and Emmet just looked on, relieved to see the pair reunited after being thrown timelines apart.
"Awh, that is verrrrry touching." He clasped his hands together with a grin. "I wonder how she'd fair in batt--ough!!"
Elbowing him in the gut, you huffed in annoyance. "Not the time, Em."
"..r-right, sorry!"

A/N: First chapter is a bit more serious than the rest of the story is gonna be. The following parts will be more or less snippets of Reader and Emmet in Hisui and their misadventures trying to stop things. I just needed a good set-up chapter as to why Reader and Emmet are working together, and how they ended in Hisui.
Also have fun translating Arceus’s speech. I found an English to Shakesparean translator and found it hilarious and did legit no editing to what it translated to. It was too good not to. Anyway, enjoy the story and again, the rest of the parts will be collections of mini series because the last thing we need is another fic that has a word for word play on the game.

Arceus' Mistake Pt. 1
Arceus had messed with the wrong trainers. You would’ve been fine if he had taken literally anyone else. Sure it would be a tragedy, but at the end of the day it wouldn’t have affected you. However, Arceus himself decided to take Ingo; a close friend of yours. Not to mention he did it right in front of his own brother's eyes…metaphorically.
You and Emmet had been struck by confusion when you had gone through the Gear Station footage after Ingo hadn’t made his way back home. It was like some portal opened up and just…took him. You two immediately went to the station but all you guys could find were his pokemon team, outside their pokeballs, and frantically searching for their trainer as well.
This cued what you liked to call your unhinged arc. Both you and Emmet decided you needed to get to the bottom of this and after traveling for over a year on pokemon myths, you had a few suspects. Some of them, landed you two in Alola (something Elesa was made that she hadn’t been invited to for vacation while you two sleuthed). Talking with a professor known as Burnet had helped you learn about wormholes. You two even tried going to the Aether Foundation to speak with someone named Mohn, only to find out he had disappeared in a bit of a different way years prior.
Burnet thankfully gave you a little bit of insight about an old phenomenon known as a “Space Time Distortion” that she studied briefly. It was something that happened in ancient Hisui, and she explained from the footage that it looked exactly like that.
So off to Sinnoh you two had gone, only to run into an issue with a team known as Team Galaxy. It took another year just to make headway and finally greet both Dialga and Palkia, neither of which would help you.
You and Emmet had almost given up hope that you’d find help until a pokemon known as Giratina made a show of itself and you both knew immediately, from the power it emitted when it arrived…this is what took Ingo. However you two soon realized that Giratina wasn’t exactly the friendly sort and there was no way it would help you out.
As a last ditch hope, you two decided to find a way to face Arceus…which thankfully wasn’t hard due to all the work you had done to defeat Giratina (and literally almost died due to the severe wounds you received trying to protect your starter pokemon). When the beastly pokemon had disappeared, there was a single flute that laid where it once stood…floated. After reading books you and Emmet made your way to Mount Coronet and played it at the Spear Pillar.
When Arceus finally arrived you had every intention of literally decking him yourself to get answers. It had been two years, nearing three, since Ingo had gone missing. You and Emmet had traveled all through the regions trying to find clues, leaving literally everything behind. Emmet the subway, and you the league you were once Champion of.
“Please, Arceus…we just want Ingo back. After everything we did to save Sinnoh…can’t we be granted this one thing!” You pleaded, hands clenched in front of you as tears threatened to spill out. Emmet’s hand was on your shoulder as he took an oddly serious look at Arceus.
“I can bringeth thy cousin backeth, this Ingo, on one condition. The foe thee combated bef're, Giratina, hast gone backeth in timeth to healeth fusty wounds. I needeth thee to stand ho that gent once m're, only aft'r yond shall i bringeth thee and thy cater-cousins backeth, in one piece.” Arceus’s words confused the hell out of you. The old timey speech was almost lost on you, but you managed to translate it.
“Fine, then Emmet and I will go together. I refuse to be parted from him. And once we get back…Ingo…he better be fine. I’m not saving the world again only for Ingo to come back and miss an arm or worse.” You said, knowing that this pokemon had the power. He created the world, after all. He probably just couldn’t directly interfere with things.
“If 't be true yond's what thee wisheth, then so beest t. Thy pokemon wonneth't beest able to maketh the journey, howev'r.” He said, his almost glowing eyes glanced over you, “Thy tasks art as follows: stand ho the foe and discov'r all pokemon.”
“What does that mean?” You asked, leaning over to Emmet and whispering.
“Kill Giratina, find pokemon.” Emmet nodded with a small smile.
“Gotcha…” You said before glancing back at Arceus, “Alright, let’s get this show on the road then. Will you be watching our team while we’re out?”
“I bethink th're is someone bett'r suit'd…an Elesa.”
“Elesa…how does he know Elesa?” You whispered back at Emmet.
“He’s god.” Emmet nodded and again you had to agree. “Alright…let’s go then, Arceus.”

I need more supportive Elesa content with Blankshipping in my mind so pls pls if you have any headcanons at all? Same note: The twins and Elesa definetly got interviewed during some special event at the station one time and the topic came to celebrity rumors and wether or not she and one of the twins where an item. She gets ready to answer the question before one of the boys chimes in with a " Oh no, it's nothing like that. Elesa and us have been friends for a very long time at this point, we knew each other since we where children, it would be like dating your sister at this point." And poor, lovely, "I am gonna take your secret to the grave boys don't worry!" Goes trough a full range of emotions not limited to "!!?!?!? YOU GUYS ARE LITERALLY DATING" , but has to keep a straight face for the camera. You can decide if the twins know she knows or not, I can't decide what's funnier.
In truth, I have seen minimal stuff about Elesa outside of fandom, but from what I have seen, she is 100% a ridiculously devoted friend. She is ride-or-die for people she cares for, and is probably just as intense for people she only barely knows. She will fight for what she believes in, and who she believes in, even if they can't or won't stand up for themselves.
So, for her to be anything other than supportive of Ingo and Emmet being romantically involved with each other just feels incredibly off-character for her. They are consenting adults. They harm no one with their love for each other. She is their friend. That's pretty much all that she needs, right?
She also saw it coming from a mile away. On the day Ingo came to tell her, Emmet's hand in his, she had only moments to decide if she should act shocked or fess up to the fact that she figured it out long ago. She had spent time and effort trying to show them subtly that she knew; Emmet had always given her a knowing but sympathetic look. 'He'll get it soon. Sorry.'
Emmet had teamed up with her for a few schemes even before Ingo confessed to his twin. Emmet pointedly refused to tell anyone about their relationship unless Ingo gave the go-ahead, except with Elesa, who all but telegraphed that she already knew. Emmet is blunt, so he went up to her one day after her attempts and just said 'Help me kiss Ingo.'
For your scenario, Elesa was trying so hard; she's a famous model who's done interviews before. She knew exactly what to say! But when Ingo said dating her would be difficult because she was like a sister? Emmet was on the other side of Ingo, and she locked eyes with him. They would both tease Ingo mercilessly about such a phrasing.
She has a set of their plushies, and stitched them together so the plushies are holding hands. She thinks it should have come that way in the first place.
Although they are perfectly capable of planning their own getaways, she is the one who encourages them to do so. She doesn't quite understand what makes an exciting vacation for them, but she does know what they look like when they haven't been able to spend as much time together due to work.
Encouraging them to do pda like a normal couple when she's out and about with them is usually met with hesitation. But, she's a master at poses as much as they are! Ingo wants to kiss Emmet? Emmet wants to wrap an arm around Ingo's waist and tug him closer for a hug? Elesa is ready with an amazing pose to distract anyone who would look their way with anything other than positivity.
She teaches them perfect selfie angles and then makes encourages them take romantic couple selfies. There have got to be photo booths in Nimbasa City; Ingo and Emmet have been stuffed into more than one more frequently than they could ever have expected. Elesa does, however, pop in to be a nuisance in some of their pics because what are friends for?
