The great news for me is all the ableists that have been in charge of my department are No Longer and the one I thought was returning went to a different department.
Unfortunately, there is still every chance I'll be shoved back on freight only in a few weeks when another coworker returns from a leave for surgery

Contractor abandons project mid-way, resulting in damages. Tries to go off the grid. But I found him and now he's paying me every penny.
This is a bit of a long one so I will try to keep some details out that aren't necessary to the story but if I am happy to answer questions if something isn't clear. This whole story takes place over the course of a year, Appx Dec 2016 into Dec 2017, and through March this year.
So the story begins with my needing to hire a contractor to repair damage to a pole barn that I was constructing on our property. The structure was partially done when a storm hit and the structure had substantial damage. So, we bid a few contractors and the guy that seemed to be the best one (who was actually a referral from a friend), we signed a contract and he started work within a week. We had also signed with him to complete the structure after the insurance portion was completed because his crew could do this much more efficiently and a better job than we could do ourselves (which is what we were originally doing).
His crew completes the insurance portion of the job, but then abandons the project just before starting the rest of it. No call, no email, nothing. I called and texted, and not one of my contact points was ever returned. At this point it was late December, and we thought maybe he and his crew had holiday plans but would resume right after. Then another windstorm hit and his crew hadn't braced the partially-completed structure correctly....and it almost collapsed again.
I tried for 2 weeks to find him. I even drove out to the address on the contract we signed. Which ended up being a house on a rural road, next town over. I knocked on the door, seeing his car there. No one answered. I stopped by this house several different times, trying to catch him. The last few times, his car was no longer there but the work truck of another company was. Wanting to know if he owned the house, I pulled up the tax records for it in the county it was in. Name on the house was not registered to him. So, sounds like he rented or at least was staying with a friend. The company info on the truck was registered to someone unrelated and not on the tax records. The tax records showed that the actual taxpayer of the property lived elsewhere. Here where I live, the property owner name is listed and if they do not actually live at that property (such as in using it for an investment), their address that would have the actual tax bill sent to is also on there.
Given that knowledge, I pulled the court records for him to see if maybe he had been recently arrested or if there was any other info. What I found was about 30 years of driving offenses, including a lot of DUI/DWI charges, and other records. At this point I figured he was long gone and being as I hadn't paid out any money to him for work that was not complete, I would just move on. At least until the structural engineer I hired to assess the damage to the work that was done, stated that the structure had to be started over on that part, and the building materials that the contractor had left scattered around the jobsite were also unusable due to being left improperly stored. I had hoped that the structure could just be pulled back into place and re-secured but I was told this is not the case.
So began the bigger drama and my determination to find him. So far, his negligence has cost $1200 for a structural engineer opinion (our insurance company paid for a 2nd opinion because they didn't like what ours said), $2500 for insurance deductible to the newest contractor hired to repair the exact damage that happened 3 months prior, and $7,000 in materials that his insurance company refused to cover or pay for, and my insurance policy on the project did not cover either. The adjuster for his insurance company said that he was able to locate the contractor but refused to give up any information for him directly.
That and the fact that the project wasn't finished had detriment to my farm and boarding business because two of my pastures that were connected to where the building was sitting, couldn't be used. This limited my ability to use natural pasture grass in summer months by rotating pastures for each herd, and had to purchase hay, which gets quite expensive.
By the time the building was completed, and I could get my pastures back to normal, I had losses of over $14,000. Because I didn't know where he now lived, I used the only address I had for him to file for small claims court, which here has a limit of $15,000. The court documents I served came back undeliverable. This meant that I was kind of stuck because a court date cannot be scheduled until all parties are properly served. But how do I find an address for someone who doesn't seem to register to any particular address directly?
Time was still on my side as this was still early-mid last year. So I kept a watch on social media for anything with his name, which was a VERY unique one. If there was another man of the same name within this state, within even the same metro area, it was unlikely because of how unique the name was. Then one day this past fall, after google searching the name again, there it was: his Facebook page. His name hadn't shown up before on FB with several searches. Not sure why this was the case. Even better, all his settings were set to public. I could see everything he wrote about. Including his recent commitment to stay sober earlier in 2017 (just after he abandoned my project), and... his employer's name! He had posted a pic of him on a jobsite and someone asked where he worked now. He named the place. So a quick google search and voila! Got an address to serve him court papers to. So I re-filed with the new-found address. But I still needed a home address to enforce the judgement once I won the case.
So what did I do? Seeing that he was listed as 'single' in his page, I used a fake FB profile that I originally had in use to test various features I enable on pages that I start up under my real profile. Truthfully, i only used that profile for that purpose to make sure the settings I put in place truly work. But now it would serve another purpose. Getting this guy to give me all the information I needed, playing on his being middle aged and single.
To create my alter ego, I found a website of a cute blonde lady in her 40's (so as to not be too young for him, since he was around mid-40's himself), and just yanked pics. I only set one to the profile photo, and would use the rest if he asked for more. I changed all the pics in the profile to look like it was a typical page of the average mid-40's female.
Holy crap did this work... and it worked so well. I used some information I found on his page to strike up a conversation about stuff stolen out of his work truck in the alley behind his house (big clue!) and it was reported to the city police dept (he named the city, so another big clue).
So, using this information, and telling him I had grown up in the same area, I got him to give me a general area where he lived. Keeping conversation cool like "is the pizza joint still there? They've been around forever" etc so he wouldn't get suspicious. Thank goodness for Google Maps giving me a better idea of that area so I could talk about it like i did in fact grow up there. In reality, I have only ever been in that city twice, and other times drove through on the way to somewhere else.
I was able to narrow down the area he talked about, and using that info, I pulled the police report records from that city. There were 3 reports done within the same area on that same day he reported. So... using that information, I pulled the county tax records to see who owned the houses. I found 3 houses within that area that could possibly be rentals since the owner name and taxpayer billing address did not match. This could be a long-shot to find the person, but I didn't have anything to lose by searching. Just as I was about to call the homeowners to see of anyone by the name of the contractor rented from them, he posts some info on his page that made the calls completely unnecessary. He posted the name of his roommate in a status update, who I then check out the profile of. The profile lists the roommate's landscaping business. A quick google search of that business name and BINGO... his state business registration address matched 1 of the 3 addresses I suspected to be the rental house.
So now I have his home address. He had already been served at his employer's address for the court date. Fast forward to the court date. He didn't show up, which I suspected he wouldn't so I got default judgement. Between serving him papers and the court date passing, the FB profile I was using to talk to him was helpful in getting info out of him about his life, his job situation, how much he made per hour (me feigning knowledge about what construction trades paid), and the fact that he was looking at changing employers. He even told me the name of that employer. So I was armed with info, should he decide to not work with me.
He played right into my hands. Once I got the official judgement from the small claims court win, I decided to contact him myself on FB using messenger. I sat down and wrote out a whole paragraph to him, first typing it on Word so that I could print it out and edit it, and have my husband read it as well.
I wrote that while I was angry at him, I was going to give him ONE chance to work a deal with me, rather than using our state dept of revenue play collection officer for me. I hate dealing with our state dept of revenue. They make the IRS look like Sunday school teachers. But...if it came down to that I would, and they would start garnishing his wages, and here they take 25% of each paycheck after taxes, and have the person's employer do it for them, and then send it to me. However, I hate letting the state be the middle-man because they just complicate things. But I told him straight out that if he refused to work with me directly, I would go to that extreme. I told him that I know he's an addict and has had struggles in the past. I told him that knowing he has had struggles, I was willing to work with him directly and give him an opportunity to offer a monthly payment amount that works for him and his budget, rather than have the state decide the amount for him.
To shorten this up... he replied, agreed, signed (and had notarized) a monthly payment agreement, complete with a list of manual labor tasks that he could use in place of a payment or two to help with some projects on my farm.
TL;DR Contractor ditched a project, resulting in significant financial damages that I could not recover via insurance. Used social media and my intimate knowledge of how to use public records to find people, along with a fake FB profile that appealed to his lonely side. Ended up finding him after over a year, and used my knowledge and rights of the court system to get him to pay me monthly rather than garnishing his wages, which I had every right to do. So far so good and it is nice having that payment show up every month.

COVID19 Updates: 07/23/2020
US: RUMINT/Analysis: Critical Update 07.23.2020 This is only the beginning. This morning I took the time to pour over on the ground reports from an especially hard hit area of Texas. It is a town of about 350,000 people that I'm very familiar with as I lived there for 5 years and still own property there although I haven't been there in about 5 years now. Despite it being a very backward and uneducated place, this town issued a stay at home order and was conducting temperature checks before there was a single case of COVID in the county. The first confirmed case was on March 21st. Local experts were predicting a peak in April and that by June, there would be virtually no cases. Fast forward to July- for the past several weeks the town has been consistently reporting 300-500 new cases a day and 8 people in the town are dying every day this month from the virus. Doctors and members of the police force have been lost to the virus. Lines of cars go on for miles at testing sites. Medical staff in full PPE- body suits with tape, face shields, n95 mask with a surgical mask on top of that. Many people are low income even before the shutdown ravaged the economy. The only shopping mall is now a meal distribution center where the lines of cars waiting for food are just as long as the ones at the testing sites. It is unclear how the virus spiraled out of control in this town which is almost 3 hours away from any other city. As much as I loath the place, ostensibly they did everything right from the very beginning before there was ever a known case of the virus. It seems like you can run but you can't hide from this thing. For as much disruption to daily life as it is causing, it has only burned through 2% of the population. By my calculations, even as quickly as the situation has spiraled out of control there, it will take 4 more years to reach a point of herd immunity at this rate, if that is even possible with this virus. From everything I'm seeing, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Everything we have seen and experienced so far is just one tenth of what is to come. Supply chains are already spotty, local budgets are spent and within the next week the economy will implode with bankruptcies and the end of stimulus benefits. Regional hotspots are on the verge of erupting into conflict. Economic strain and resource scarcity are all it will take to shove things off the cliff. Those places that haven't been hit very hard by the virus won't be spared, they are just waiting for their turn in the barrel.

And Florida dept of health reports covid death of 9 year old from Putnam County FL. Putnam County Health Officer Mary Garcia confirmed the fatality to CNN on Wednesday and said she was unaware of any underlying medical conditions in the girl's case.
RUMINT/Analysis: here is what i see at the moment. it is not much really. The local governs. have to keep the economy moving to get paid the sales taxes. they already lost enuf from the 1st lockdowns to growl to the states for $$.thius is why they want schools open. with both parents working, the local govern's see double the income. won't work that way. but is their theory. this is another "kick the can down the road plan". here is the problems. 1 is not enuf $$ to make up for the lost time. not enuf items to sell to bring in the sales tax.CHINA still dead in the water means no goods being sentg to stores. the local govern will still b short $$ since they lost months of tax $$ already. how long before this is an issue? best bet is going to b layoff local govern workers so they get kicked to the state UI dept. this won't buy much time. can they get to spring financially? think the local govern's have different fiscal years than the normal taxpayer or calendar year. we have xmas in the middle. how bad are things and how much does the state and local govern really know? NOV-DEC is the biggest shopping mths to bring in that sales tax. however, u do not want to p*ss the ppl off and panic them in these mths either.unless Santa has a magic wharehouse, where do all the goods come from to sell? based on waht we know and the DR report, the lockdown has to occur in Oct at the latest. farther than that will lead to riots and the govern losing control over the ppl. i don't think there is enuf supply to buy them into JAN. now since it is an election year, can they kick the can into NOV a week or 2? will TPTB do that if the DEMS are losing the election? tipping popint seems to b between mid OCT to mid NOV. all depends what TPTB decide is their best move with the election. watch for "flue season" to start as soon as schools open. expect death counts for OCT. expect the situation to b 50-100x as bad as now.

If you are a university struggling with budgetary issues, PLEASE READ before making dumb athletic decisions... please
Ok, so say you are a mid-major university and you rely fairly heavily on your annual NCAA distribution to support your athletic department.  You were counting on $2mm and you got $600K.  Ruh, Roh, Scooby!
Now the NCAA comes along and says they want you to give MORE SCHOLARSHIPS TO SPRING ATHLETES?  Are they nuts??!??!  They squelch down off your school’s largest source of athletic revenue and then they want you to increase athletic expenses?  WTF?
Ok, calm down potty mouth, I’ve got some basic economics for you to help you see why having more spring-sport athletes on campus might help your improve  your coronavirus-threatened university’s P&L for 2020-2021.  And you can thank me by trying to internalize this mantra: “accounting figures are a useful, human-created fiction but when they conflict with reality, you should choose reality”
Let’s build a hypothetical school in a hypothetical world.  Let’s invent a school, say, the University of Corona.  And as we all know, the school’s athletic teams are known as the Ragin’ Viruses.
Normally Corona is at, or very close, to capacity.  But because of the social distancing scare, they sent everyone home early in the 2019-2020 academic year and for whatever reason, a bunch of sophomore and juniors chose to transfer prior to the 2020-2021 year.  So there is a one-time glut of unused dorms and you expect your classrooms to be like 3/4 full come Fall Semester.  Your entire campus administration is reeling from the impact.  If tuition revenue is down  25%, that’s a huge hit to Corona’s ability to pay professors, staff, and to support athletics.  No one is happy with the possibility of cuts, but cuts may be needed.  As athletic director of the Ragin’ Viruses, you’re asked to find a way to either cut the net impact of your $4.5 million budget on the university as a whole by 5% or increase revenue by a similar amount to avoid cuts.  That’s $225,000 you need to come up with
Now the NCAA comes along.  In our hypothetical world, there are only 2 Spring sports, men’s sportball and women’s sportball.  Both are equivalency sports (for non NCAA masters, this means that you are allocated x full scholarships but you can spread them over more than x students).  Let’s just say each sport allows 10 GIAs (i.e. what people often call athletic scholarships), and Corona tends to spread it over 20 athletes.  Assume a Full GIA has a listed Cost of Education of $25,000, split as follows:
Tuition & Fees: $10K
Room: $10K
Board $4K
Books: $1K
TOTAL: $25,000 per full GIA per year.
(side note: “Cost of Education” is a term of art somewhat distinct from “Cost of Attendance” -- the difference being CoE excludes Travel Expenses and Personal/Living Expenses that are costs born by student but not paid to schools.  schools that pay “Full COA” provide a cash payment to cover those extra 2 categories, and these are sometimes called a COA Stipend.  In this example, Corona Univ does not give COA Stipends to Spring sport athletes.)
So your spring sports athletes GIAs are listed on you Membership Reporting Financial System (MFRS) entries as 40 athletes (20 men, 20 women) each at 50% scholarship, and thus your GIA expense is 40 x 50% x $25000 = $500,000.
Last assumption, and this is a strong one: assume none of your sportball athletes can afford to attend Corona without a scholarship.  If they lose their GIA, they’ll transfer to a local college or drop out.
With me so far?
Well one very obvious way to reduce your budget by $500,000 would be to just cancel all Spring sport GIAs, which reduces your budget by more than 10%, way more than the 4.5% you were asked to contribute.  You feel like a hero.  But is that really going to help Corona U as much as you think?
TLDR: Nope.  Here’s why:
When you cut those 40 scholarships, your listed scholarship expense drops by $500,000.  Woot, budget balanced and you even saved the school a lot extra!  Except your Provost didn’t ask you to cut your budget by $225K.  She asked you to cut the impact of your budget on the overall campus finances by $225K.  Which means you need to take a whole-university perspective.  And when you cut those scholarships, the athletes who got them drop out of Corona.  Meaning that they collective pay in less in tuition and fees (40 people x 50% x $10,000 = $200,000) and less in room (40 people x 50% X $10,000 = $200,000), etc.  Leaving Books and Board to the side for a moment, by cutting your GIA budget by $500,000, you’ve just reduced university revenue by $400,000 just from lost Tuition, Fees, and Room revenue.  That’s not going to win you points with the Provost.
And worse still -- when you used to pay the $500,000 in GIAs, you didn’t actually give money to students.  You send money to... the Bursar, on campus.  So when you stop giving scholarships, you actually reduced the Bursars revenue by another $500,000 as well, meaning that your $500,00 savings got erased, plus you lost another $400,000 (and we haven’t even looked at books or board yet)
Ah, but you say, by not having those students on campus, you’re saving the costs of actually educating them.  Gotta take that into account as well.  Ok, well, what does it cost to provide a room to a student if you have spare dorm rooms sitting idle?  Remember this whole crisis were started by a one-time shock to the system from the virus where your enrollment declined by 25%.  You have empty dorms sitting there, earning no money and costing very little to maintain.  Maybe it costs $100/semester for electricity and housekeeping, but it’s basically cost-less.  And the same goes for tuition.  If the classrooms are 75% full, there is almost no cost to having more people attend the same lectures, have their papers reviewed by the same teaching assistants, etc., attend office hours of professors with time to spare, etc.  You aren't actually saving any costs because (with spare capacity) on the margin, tuition and room have no incremental costs.  They are all fixed costs (again, if you are under-capacity).
So you didn’t save your school a dime -- you reduced outside revenue by $400,000, and you lowered athletics listed expenses by $500,000 but you also lowered the bursars listed revenue by $500,000.  You just cost the school $400K.  If this were Oregon Trail, you’d be dead in a river.
Ah, but what about books and board -- those have real costs.  If I don't have to feed 40 hungry athletes, that saves some money, right?  And if I don't have to provide books, that saves money too, right?  And the answers there are yes and yes.  But it’s not as much of a savings as you think.
Corona University, like a lot of schools, has a contract with Barnes and Noble to runs its own bookstore and with a food service provider to run its cafeteria and meal plans.  When anyone makes a book store purchase (even athletics), 20% of the revenue goes to the school.  When anyone pays for a student’s meal plan (even athletics), 10% of the revenue goes to the school.  So for books, when the athletic department cancelled 40 GIAs, you caused the following changes:
(a) The bookstore got $40,000 less in revenue (40 people x $1K in book spending)
(b) the school thus got $8,000 less in revenue. (20% of total)
(c) the athletic department spent $40,000 less.
(d) thus the net savings was only $32,000, not $40,000.
For board, the effects are similar but food is more expensive and you get a lower benefit:
(a) The food service provider got $160,000 less in revenue (40 people x $4K in food spending)
(b) the school thus got $16,000 less in revenue. (10% of total)
(c) the athletic department spent $160,000 less.
(d) thus the net savings was only $144,000 ($160K-$16K), not $160,000.
Ok, so yes, when we ignored board and books, you ended up harming the school by $400,000, and now that we look at board and books, we see you saved the school $176,000, so the net “benefit” of your cutting 40 athletes’ 50% GIAs is to reduce total campus revenue by $224,000.
This may be what Donald Trump learned to do at Wharton, but for the rest of us this is a bad way of doing business.  You were asked to improve things by $250,000 and instead you harmed the school by $224,000.
Ok, well, how to fix things then?
Well, let’s add to our hypothetical.  Assume the NCAA just told you that you that you can double your GIAs for 2019-2020 on a one-time basis.  That is, you can add 40 GIA equivalencies for Spring sports in 2019-20.  And just imagine that a whole lot of schools out there just cancelled men’s and women’s sportball (or went out of business altogether) or that there just happen to be a ton of extra sportball athletes looking for scholarships.  So you make a cool Corona U video featuring your lovable mascot, COVID19 (that’s his uniform number, of course), and it goes, well, viral.  You find 20 additional women and 20 additional men who very much want to come to Corona if you can give them your standard 50% sportball GIA.  So you do, and you budget now says your expenses just increased by $500K.
Now you might be saying to me, um, what part of save money don’t you understand, Adam Smith?
Ah, but let’s run the numbers.
40 more people come to campus.  They pay the bursar each $12,500, so in total, they bring in $500,000 more in revenue on their own.  Plus you give the bursar another $500,000 to cover the other half of the scholarships.  That’s a gain of $1 million in revenue on the Bursar’s account.
Now athletics, it is true, is down $500,000.  Thus, so far, the next gain is $500,000.
The students get rooms that cost nothing (b/c of the glut of empty dorm rooms) and they fill seats in classrooms that bring no additional cost.
The bursar does need to send $40K more over to the bookstore, and only 20% of that flows back in to the bookstore revenue (b/c Barnes & Noble takes 80%), so books do cost the school, and on net the cost is $32K.
Ditto, the food service process.  Of the $25K per student the bursar’s dept. got, they sent $4k per person to the food service firm and only 10% flows back to the school.  On net, this costs a total of $144K.
And so the bursar’s $500K profit is reduce by $176K, meaning the school has just gained $224,000 by adding 40 athletes on 50% scholarships.
Wow, you’re only $1K away from meeting your goal.  The last $1K comes from selling off the golden toilet in your personal executive bathroom.  Sorry, but times are tough here, so tough even Athletic Directors have to rough it a bit.
Obviously, these numbers are stylized and not every assumption is as easy as this.  Perhaps not all athletes will drop out if their scholarships are cut.  Perhaps finding more athletes willing to attend won’t be that easy.  Perhaps it costs a lot more to provide electricity to dorms so that there are somewhat lower benefits from filling an empty room.  But conceptually, if you have empty class space (with excess teaching capacity) and empty dorm space (with excess sleeping capacity), you are going to lose money if you don’t fill it with a paying customer, even if that paying customer is not paying full price.  Ask cruise lines, or at least ask them after they finish bleaching their ships, why they offer last minute steep discounts on cruises if they have empty rooms.  it’s because the cost of cleaning one more cabin on a ship, even a deep daily Corona clean, is a small portion of the cost of running a cruise ship, and most of the costs are fixed (i.e., independent of how many passengers are on board).  The same is true of a university: as long as the school has empty dorms and empty seats in class, bringing in a partial scholarship student is going to be a net benefit as long as the portion paid by the athlete exceeds the marginal (i.e., incremental) costs of feeding the athlete and providing books, because most of the rest of the incremental costs are trivially small.
If you are AD, I beg you not to hurt your beloved school by a false belief that accounting expenses are the same thing as lost money.  I hope you can learn the lesson of Corona University and stop the spread of this sort of viral econ-illiteracy.

The new coronavirus could claim up to 24.7 million jobs, according to International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates.
The United Nations’ labor agency suggested this was a worst-case, or “high,” scenario of global unemployment but said internationally-coordinated policy response could mean a significantly lower impact. In this case, it estimated a “low” unemployment scenario of 5.3 million. It therefore calculated a “mid” scenario of 13 million jobs lost, 7.4 million of which would be in high-income countries. —Vicky McKeever

The advisory, the highest of its kind, would instruct all Americans abroad to either return to the U.S. or prepare to shelter in place. The level four advisory also dictates that Americans cannot travel abroad. “We have 350 million people in the United States, and you do the math,” she said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” If 70 million people are eventually infected with this virus and again if there are multiple waves of this virus, then you can do the math and then you can get there.” —Will Feuer

Democrats are gearing up for a fight over whether direct payments to Americans struggling with the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic will be enough. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is among those arguing for expanded unemployment insurance as a source of relief.
“A single $1,000 check would help someone pay their landlord in March but what happens after that?” the New York Democrat said on the chamber floor Wednesday. “A thousand dollars goes by pretty quickly if you’re unemployed. In contrast, expanded unemployment insurance — beefed-up unemployment insurance — covers you for a much longer time and would provide a much bigger safety net.”

9:53 am: Flattening the coronavirus curve — What this means and why it matters
The World Health Organization has repeatedly underlined the importance of “flattening the curve” in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, calling on countries around the world to impose sweeping public health measures.
In epidemiology, the curve refers to the projected number of new cases over a period of time.
In contrast to a steep rise of coronavirus infections, a more gradual uptick of cases will see the same number of people get infected, but without overburdening the health-care system at any one time.
The idea of flattening the curve is to stagger the number of new cases over a longer period, so that people have better access to care. —Sam Meredith

Trump also planned to make socialism a central focus of his attacks. But without Bernie Sanders to run against, this argument becomes a lot less potent.

7:25 am: Virus could inflict record-setting damage on the US jobs market
The first wave of bad economic news directly related to the coronavirus crisis is likely to come from the jobs market, and that could be delivered sooner rather than later.
Virtually all of the economic data releases out now cover periods before the COVID-19 spread began to zero in on the U.S.  Some of those reports have hinted at a slowdown heading into the worst of the virus period, but the extent of the damage has been hard to gauge. That will change over the next week or so when the Labor Department releases the tallies for weekly jobless claims. The latest weekly unemployment numbers are expected out at 8:30 a.m. ET. —Jeff Cox

How long after an accident can I file an insurance claim in NY?
About 2 weeks ago I slipped off an icy road, drove my van into the woods on state land. There was no property damage, this is a very rural area (as in no homes within 5 miles at least). It did take out my rear corner window, crushed my headlights and damaged my hood. I drove right out of the woods afterwards. I was going to do the repairs myself, but found out the window repair would be over $500 and for that price I might as well file a claim and get the rest fixed. My questions are: Is it too late to file a claim? Are there any legal ramifications for not reporting this accident?""

Pre-Existing Conditions health insurance...?
I've had epilepsy since I was 5 years old, I'm now 24. I came across a comment on a website a few minutes ago about there being some kind of federal law where it's ILLEGAL to deny someone coverage because they may be in poor health, overweight, etc... aka having a pre-existing condition . If this is true about there being a law AGAINST it, why are SO MANY health insurance companies allowed to deny people w/ pre-existing conditions right off the bat? There are THOUSAND upon thousands, if not MILLIONS, of people in the U.S that have some kind of pre-existing condition, whether minor or major. So wouldn't that mean that there are THOUSANDS of insurance companies that are running their business illegally & breaking the law? I mean, breaking a state law is one thing, but a FEDERAL law is a pretty big deal!! Washington makes such a big deal about how so many people in our country don't have health insurance & they say it's because people can't afford it . But I think the REAL reason is that because MOST of those people have a pre-existing condition & they're getting thrown to the curb because of it... Comments on this???""

Should I accept this settlement offer from an insurance company?
I was in a car accident when a girl blew a red light and smashed into my side. $10,000 in auto damages that was fixed rights away. (btw she admitted fault to police so im 0% at fault legally) I went to emergency room for precautionary reasons. That cost $1450. Then little by little the pain started to kick in. I had neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain and terrible pain in my knee. I had MRI on back, knee and neck because those were the worst. That total was about $1800. I was told by the doctor that the mri on my back said I have two herniated disks and I should do therapy. I listened to him and went four times per week for four months. The Mri on my neck came back good. But my knee showed a tear in mcl. I had surgery on that and had to see the surgeon in his office twice plus hospital bills which equals a bill of $14,500. I then needed 2 months of therapy on my knee. Also all the pain meds ive been taking through out the whole process is around $600. I had a ekg for my nerves to test if they were good and that cost $800. So after doing my research I find websites that say the settlement amount s should be all bills multiplied by 3 depending on the persons insurance carrier and coverage. Well this person has $200,000/$200,000. So far all my bills have been paid through my insurance. When I do the math for what all the bills are is comes to roughly $28350. I didn't include the four days per week for therapy and seeing the doctors. That has to be a big chunk also. My lawyer called me and said he was made an offer of $42,000. He gets a 1/3 of that. I think they low balled me soooo bad on this. If i use the X3 multiplier method then it should have been somewhere around $85,000 offer. Remember I didn't even include all the visits to the therapy. Is this a good offer or should I decline and wait for second offer? My lawyer thinks we should wait it out because he has such a big insurance policy that we can get much more especially since that was our first offer.""

I don't know if it depends on what state we live in but I live in Arizona and my parents used to have insurance for everything like auto and health. My parents were legal immigrants from Mexico since 1987 in Los Angeles, California until we moved to Arizona around the early 1990s(I don't know if that also has anything to do with insurance but I guess it does with money). I have reason to believe that the charges will be dropped. Can they raise my rates or drop me at this point? Without a conviction?""
Pay-as-you-drive auto insurance: do you think this is a good idea?
An alliance of insurance companies and environmentalists wants to bring a new kind of mileage-based auto insurance to California and charge motorists only for the number of miles actually driven. Called pay as you drive, the option is available from a few insurers in 34 states ... as well as Canada, Japan and Europe. One company, GMAC Insurance Group, says its customers -- whose mileage is tracked by General Motors Corp.'s OnStar system -- have reduced the premiums they pay by 13% to 54%.... The system could cut motoring costs, protect the environment and reduce traffic congestion, boosters say. Opponents, mainly privacy advocates, say they fear that insurance companies could begin tracking more than just a driver's mileage. High-mileage drivers could also see higher rates. from the Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/news/science/environment/la-fi-carinsure15-2008jul15,0,6970018.story""
Health insurance in CA?
I'm a college student thinking of getting health insurance that is affordable. What health insurance should I get? And what's the cost of the insurance per month? Thank you
Did you agree over a decade ago when California made police asking for auto insurance illegal?
For a few years, police were not allowed to ask for auto insurance from motorists. Much of the argument in favor of that law was that it discriminated against poor Mexicans. It was overturned eventually as auto insurance violations/irresponsibility became epidemic. How does this relate to the current law in Arizona? How does it relate to the mandatory health insurance law?""

For example have you had insurance prior to this and what date it ends. How much you drive the car. Also I am 20 and have had insurance my prior rate was 700 for 6 months. I had two at fault accident before that insurance at 18. But only one was really at fault and I have to get proof and the other drops of my record on the 13th of August. Car Insurance claim or private repair?
Hi I have accidently damaged another car parked in private car park. I have been touch with the owner who has very kindly agreed to get her car repaired and not to go through insurance but she is insisting to get it repaired from garage of her choice who are charging double the amount of original cost. My first question is do I still need to inform my insurance company even though I have not given her any of my details yet. I am happy to get it repaired rather then loosing 10 year no claim bonus. Should I just agree to pay the garage of her choice or legally I can get a quote from another garage who might be cheaper? any advise would be very much appreciated. Thanks
