i don't think sonic translates particularly well into open world environments so it probably would be for the best if future games didn't go the same route as frontiers HOWEVER. they should return to the formula of huge hub worlds to give us a space to run around and goof off in like in frontiers. i want them to take sa1 06 and unleashed and expand on what they did. maybe make seamless transitions from hub world into stage environments who knows!!

#soda offers you a can #idk open worlds are about exploration and sonic games aren't really exploration games bc you're supposed to go fast yeacool #and frontiers i think has trouble rewarding the player for exploration in meaningful ways?#you're given so many resources so easily in the base game that you kinda don't need to explore that much unless you go for completion #the dlc handles it a bit better by making skill points easier to get through exploration and doing the platforming challenges #and making some map expansions only accessible that way #and like even when you find cool environmental storytelling it's not always acknowledged in the moment #which makes it easy to miss cool lore implications at least for me #but fucking around in big spaces is fun! and i think that would translate well into hub worlds #bc those don't need to be huge platforming and speed experiences. like they can have those but they're optional you know?#idk im spitballing and im not a gamedev or anything i don't know things but something like this could be rly cool going forward?

there's something to be said for ugly emperor's child and slaaneshis in general, I think. beauty as a form of mediocrity. sure there's the perfectionism and golden ratio faces and that, in itself, being extremity. no one perfectly fits the golden ratio or whatever, no one is 100% attractive. it's uncanny valley. and so, in a way, "traditional", "researched" beauty can be appealing to them. but I'm far more interested in the inverse and, to my mind, the more common thing they're a fan of -- being ugly as sin. features that might be considered conventionally attractive taken to unattractive extremes (square jaw? try having a head shaped like a cube), visible and intense "undesirable" traits, etc. where's the pleasure in everything looking the same, all monotone shades of golden ratio faces and "ideal" WCRs and WHRs? the researched ideal WCRs and WHRs don't even fall into extremity! too extreme and people don't find it attractive anymore!

marble hornets is a slenderman-based arg(-esque) series based around a group of amateur film-makers being terrorized and turned against eachother by "the operator" (slenderman) (<- this is a very basic description but u get the idea lol)!! it's one of the stepping stones of the slenderverse, and one of the earliest pieces of slenderman related media ^__^ it's on youtube and its super well-made + a general staple of early analog horror (kind of? it's more-so the ground work that most were based on lol), but if you just want a general lore run down i'd reccommend watching night mind's series on it! .:3

Speaking of details, do we actually know how big the Pizzaplex is? Like... Obviously it's huge but do we have any kind of source that says how big it actually is? Or a good approximation of it?

totk is very fun dont get me wrong but i do feel like when they leaned into the "everyones being creative so lets have them make insane contraptions" thing they went so far into it that it reduced what originally made that part of botw so interesting— that these solutions were fully unintended and creative for having broken the game

#mileposting #totk lb #dont get me wrong building things is literally my entire major i love the concept they were going for here but it feels like they were both #1. too afraid to lean too far into it (limited use zonai devices)#2. too far invested in the idea (every fucking cave needs a hammer now. you cant just go in with a bomb like you used to #+ all of the enjoyment of these being unintended solutions is now limited because youre playing into what theyre expecting of you)#i think if youre gonna have a sequel that uses the same map you REALLY need to make it feel different in some way. and to me #unfortunately the map just feels like botw but . more boring because ive seen it all before #the depths are a cool area and the concept of sky islands are very neat #but it doesnt feel like enough to warrant an entire new game yet #though. please take all of this with a grain of salt as i havent gotten super far into the game yet #in any case the game is fun but i wish they would step out of the botw comfort zone LOL

my hot fire emblem take is that weapon durability is bad and the games that don't have it are more fun. if you give me a holy sword of ultimate asskicking, i should be able to kill enough people with it to make a dynasty warriors protagonist blush

#fire emblem #this is ultimately my main problem with three houses gameplay #the hero's relics aren't much better than anything else unless you're using their special combat art #but the combat art takes up so much durability that you never want to use it unless you're in like. the last map.#and the resources to repair it are. uh. really fucking annoying to get. ESPECIALLY amyr.#three hopes actually fixes this by having it be per-map durability #so you can have fun with it but you can't spam it nonstop unless you keep an eye out for durability pots #one reason i like Echoes a lot is because with the way weapon upgrading works you can theoretically have a shitload of Cool Swords #but each person can only have ONE cool sword. or a shield.
