I have to wonder how many people celebrating AI translation also complain about "broken English" and how obvious it is something was Google translated from another language without a fluent English speaker involved to properly clean up the translation/grammar.
Because I bet it's a lot.
I know why execs are all for it—AI is the new buzzword and it lets them cut jobs thus "save" money and not have to worry about pesky labour laws when one employs humans—but everyone else?
There was some outcry when Crunchyroll fired many of their translators in favour of AI translation (with some people to "clean up the AI's work") but I can't help but think that was in part because it was Japanese-to-English and personally affected them. Same when Duolingo fired many of their translators in favour of LLM translation. Meanwhile companies are firing staff when it's English to another language and there's this idea that that's fine or not as big a deal because English is "easy" to translate and/or because people don't think of how it will impact people in non-English countries.
Also it doesn't affect native English speakers so it doesn't get much headway in the news cycle or online anyway because so much of the dominant media is from English-speaking countries and English-speakers dominate social media.
But different languages have different grammar structures that LLMs don't do, and I grew up on "jokes" about people speaking in "broken English" and mocking people who use the wrong word when it was clearly a literal translation but the meaning was obvious long before LLMs were a thing, too. In fact, the specific way a character spoke broken English has been a way to denote their native tongue for decades, usually in a racist way.
Then Google translate came out and "Google-translated English" became an insult for people and criticism of companies because it was clearly wonky to native speakers. Even now, LLMs—which are heavily trained on English compared to other languages—don't have a natural output so native English speakers can clock LLM-generated text if it's longer than a sentence or two.
But, for whatever reason, it's not seen as a problem when it goes the other way because fuck non-English readers or people who want to read in their native tongue I guess.
#and it's not like no people were doing translations so wonky translations were better than nothing#it's actual translators being fired for a subpar replacement#and anyone who keeps their job suddenly being responsible for cleaning up llm output rather than what they trained in#(which can take just as much time or longer than doing the translation by hand from scratch)#(if you want it done right anyway)#hell to this day i hear people complain about written translations of indigenous words and how they 'aren't english enough'#even though they're using the ipa and use a system white english people came up with in the first place#and you can easily look up the proper pronunciation and hear it spoken#but there's such a double-standard where it's expected that other languages cater to english/english speakers#but that grace and accommodation doesn't go the other way#and it's the failing of non-english speakers when an english translation is broken#you see it whenever monolingual english speakers travel to other countries and utterly refuse to learn the language#but if someone doesn't speak in unaccented (to them) english fluently in their home country the person 'isn't trying hard enough'#this is just the new version of that where non-english speakers are supposed to do more work and put up with subpar translations#even as a native english speaker/writer i get a (much) lesser version of this because i write with canadian spelling#and some people get pissed if their internet experience is disrupted by 'ou' instead of 'o' or '-re' instead of '-er'#because dialects and regional phrasing/spelling is a thing#human translators can (or should) be able to account for it but llms are not smart enough to do so#and that's not even getting into slang and how llms don't account for it#or how llms can put slurs into translations because it doesn't do nuance or context and doesn't know the language#if you ever complained about buying something from another country that came with machine-translated instructions#you should be pissed at companies cutting english-to-[language] staff in favour of glorified google translate#because the companies are effectively saying they're fine with non-native speakers getting a wonky/broken version

☆ He would definitely ask you to “teach” him a few phrases but has absolutely no intention of actually learning
☆ like he just wants to hear you speak as much of any language you can
☆ because of his quirk, I think he has like a thing for someone with a nice voice so he just loves to hear you talk
☆ he’d bother you to help him with his english homework A LOT, especially if you’re fluent because you have such a high grade in that class
☆ I think I take that first statement back, he’d definitely want to learn any phrases you want to teach him to help strengthen his quirk
☆ he’d learn a few cheesy phrases just to surprise you with them and catch you off guard
☆ he’d be a sucker for your native tongue though
☆ he loves hearing you talk to a relative on the phone because he gets to hear how your voice naturally gets a little deeper, the way the syllables drip off of your tongue like honey and the little sound effects that come with it
☆ there was a time when the two of you were on a date and a foreigner came up to you with hopeful eyes and asked if you had spoken any english, his eyes filled with pride as he watched you effortlessly give them directions or help them translate something
☆ as you waved at them and wished them luck, you felt his gaze on you
“Toshi? What is it? Do I have something on my face?” you had slipped back into japanese so easily. You were confused when a small smile grew on his lips.
☆ “Nah, I just have the most talented girlfriend. That’s all.” His words made you blush profusely. “I really am proud of you, you know that?”
☆ “Of course I know Toshi.” You wrapped your arms around his neck, his instinctively wrapping around your waist and pulled you closer. “What’s gotten into you?”
☆ “Nothing, but I think there may be a problem.” You frowned at his words. “You’ve put me under your spell. I’m so in love with you.” Your eyes widened as he confessed his love in your native tongue. Dialect and pronunciation were perfect.
☆ “Well, you’re not the only one because I love you too.”
☆ the two of you shared a kiss then and there, even if he wasn’t a big fan of PDA
☆ he just had to kiss you or he might die

❆ transferring to UA and being a foreigner was weird
❆ everyone was drowning you in questions, asking about your quirk, why you moved, where you came from, it was just too much but you instantly noticed Todoroki
❆ not because he was quiet but while everyone (minus bakugou) was bombarding you with questions, he was unapologetically staring at you, his sharp bi-colored eyes sent shivers down your spine
❆ but instead of looking away, you stared back with the same intensity because he was strikingly handsome
❆ he thought the same about you, from the moment you walked into class and introduced yourself, he was entranced by your beauty
❆ he could tell that japanese was most definitely not your native language, he was impressed with how well you passed as a japanese native
❆ as time went on, he came to appreciate you as a person
❆ the way you held yourself to a certain standard without coming off as stuck up or your selfless nature when it came to your fellow classmates
❆ he remembers one time that he woke up at 2am to go get a glass of water when he saw you by the couch and he noticed the two slumped figures on both couches. Mina on one and Denki on the other
❆ you hadn’t noticed hid so he watched as you carefully lifted Mina’s head and slipped a pillow under it before making sure she was covered properly with a blanket, doing the same with Kaminari before muttering something to yourself in another language and going back to your room
❆ he frowned, what did you say and what language was it in? shrugging, he got his water and went back to sleep
❆ surprise surprise, it was you that confessed to him halfway through the year
❆ he was surprised but confessed his feelings as well before insisting on taking you on a proper date with full intention to max out his dad’s credit card
❆ one saturday, the two of you were in your room studying when you got a phone call. You apologized before going to answer and his eyes widened when he heard you speak, it wasn’t japanese
❆ he was enthralled by how it sounded spilling from your lips, the words were foreign to him but he couldn’t help but listen in
❆ “What was that?” he asked once you hung up, you explained that it was your mom and that was your native tongue, you then explained to him the different languages you could speak in
❆ I think he’d only ask you to help him learn english and maybe your native tongue
❆ “Why would you wanna learn that, Sho?” You asked as you were sat in his lap and brushed his bangs from his forehead
❆ “Well when I meet your parents, I would want to make a good first impression.”
❆ his words shocked you, he wasn’t really one to joke about things like that
❆ “You want to learn for when you meet my parents?”
❆ “Well of course I do but if you don’t want me to meet them, then that’s alright.”
❆ “You’re so sweet Sho, of course I’ll teach you.” You peppered his face with kisses, enjoying the way his cheeks slowly turned pink
❆ “I think you missed a spot, princess?”
❆ “Oh really, where?” He took you by surprise when he grabbed you chin softly between his fingers and tilted your head down.
❆ “Right here.” he planted a sweet kiss on your lips, smiling into the kiss as he felt the warmth of your hands on his cheeks
❆ your parents meet him and they love him

☀ baby would be very confused when he hears you speak something other than japanese
☀  he heard you speak to All Might once in fluent english and he just stood there, eyes moving quickly between the two of you as he tried to keep up with what was going on
☀ he’d 100% get competitive and try to learn another language to 1-up you but it doesn’t work and he’d get all pouty
☀ “Why didn’t you ask me to teach you something? You know I wouldn’t mind.”
☀ he came up to you once and insulted you in portuguese, it was an accident though...he definitely learned that duolingo and google translate were definitely NOT good tools to learning a new language
☀ “Suki, why would you say that to me?” he frowned at the tears in your eyes
☀ ”Wait...what did I say?”
☀ “You basically told me that my face was uglier than a rats ass.” he panicked even more when the tears rolled down your cheeks. He cupped your face and kissed the tears away
☀ “I’m sorry, I was trying to say that you are the most gorgeous woman I’ve met.” You’re not really sure how he got that phrase but the guilt in his voice definitely told you that it wasn’t on purpose so you forgave him...on a condition
☀ “I’ll forgive you if you cuddle me for the rest of the day.” you had never seen this boy move so fast. He tackled you to the bed and wrapped you up on his arms
☀ during this cuddle time, he’d press kisses on whatever skin he could reach, murmuring an apology each time
☀ while you were in his arms, you taught him a phrase that he could easily say
☀ “You got it? Or do you need me to say it again?” You asked as you looked up at him, he had a scowl of concentration creasing his forehead
☀ “I think I’ve got it...” He muttered. There was a small silence before he took a deep breath
☀ “Y-You are sw-sweeter than h-honey...”
☀ “There you go!” You smiled proudly, it was such a corny phrase and not one he’d ever say in japanese too
☀ “So what did I just say?”
☀ “You said I was sweeter than honey? Is that true Suki? Am I sweeter than honey?”
☀ “Well babe, why don’t we find out?” He slyly brought you down for a kiss, lips dancing slowly and sensually against each other’s
☀ “Mmm you are sweeter than honey, so sweet it’s intoxicating.” His voice rumbled deeply against you as he brought you in for ‘another taste.’
☀ definitely would ask you to teach him all the curse words so he could curse people out without them being able to understand
☀ 1000/10 a good idea because hearing him curse in something other than japanese was hot

The Role Of Voice Recognition Technology In AI And Machine Learning.
Tumblr media
Speech recognition technology is something that has been dreamed of and worked on for many decades.
From the beep-bopping of R2-D2 in Star Wars to Samantha's dissatisfied but charming voice, science fiction writers have played a big role in shaping expectations and predictions about how speech recognition will be in our world...
However, for all advances in modern technology, voice control is a very sophisticated relationship.
It is felt to be historically helplessly clear and nothing but a novelty to simplify our lives. That is until we start to get more into the field of big data, intensive learning, machine learning, and AI technology. Similarly, text to speech is a technology similar to voice recognition that converts digital text into voice. Text to speech technology makes computer to read text aloud from the text document. There are many best free text to speech software that you can use to let your device read for you without looking at the text.
Voice Recognition: A Brief History
As with any technology, what we know today comes from nowhere, someone and someone else.
The first recorded attempt at speech recognition technology was in 1,000 AD. However, the tool that can answer direct questions “yes” or “no” comes back through development.
Although the experiment does not technically involve voice processing in any form, the idea behind it must be part of the foundation of speech recognition technology: the use of natural language as an input to speed up the action.
Centuries later, Bell Laboratories worked to develop "Audrey", which could detect vowel-speaking numbers 1-9.
Later, IBM developed a device that could detect and distinguish 16 spoken words.
These successes have greatly enhanced the dominance of technology companies focusing on speech-related technologies. The Department of Defense also wanted to join the action. Researchers are working steadily toward the goal of making machines more capable of comprehending and responding to our verbal commands.
The history of speech recognition technology is long and winding. However, today’s speech systems such as Google Voice, Amazon Alexa, Microsoft Cortana, and Apple’s Siri are not where they are today, there are no early pioneers.
Thanks to the integration of new technologies such as cloud-based processing and ongoing data collection projects, these speech systems have improved the ability to constantly hear and understand a wide variety of words, languages , and voices.
At this rate, the predictions of future writers are not as far-fetched as we might think.
The Voice Recognition Process: How Does It Work?
Around smartphones, smart cars, smart home appliances, voice assistants, and more, it's easy to know how speech recognition technology works.
Why?
Because it is easy to be misled by digital assistants. Speech recognition is still very complicated.
Think about how a child learns a language.
From day one, they hear the words used around them. Parents talk to their child, and even if the child does not respond, they perceive all kinds of sound signals; Noise, reflection, and pronunciation; Their brain designs and makes connections based on how their parents use their language.
Although it may seem difficult for humans to hear and understand, we train all our lives to develop this so-called natural ability.
Speech recognition technology essentially works the same way. Although humans have improved our process, we have yet to identify the best practices for computers. We must train them in the same way that our parents and teachers trained us. In addition, this type of training requires vision, research, and manpower.
These speech recognition systems take longer and more field data to complete; Thousands of languages, voices, and dialects need to be considered.
To say that we have not made progress; As of May 2017, Google's machine learning algorithm has now achieved a 95% word accuracy rate for the English language. This current rate is a limit to human accuracy, take care of yourself.
What is the best voice assistant?
Tumblr media
So far, we have all heard and/or used speech recognition systems; They entered the technological ecosystem to become a means of communication between humans and technology.
Voice input is a more efficient form of computing, as Mary Meeker said in her annual Internet Trends report: Humans can speak an average of 150 words per minute, but can only type 40. Farewell texting and push buttons - we're so busy now bus.
What has become the dominant form of computing is that speech recognition is unbelievable. In addition to regional accents and speech impediments, background noise can make word recognition difficult. Not to mention multiple-voice input.
In other words, recognizing sounds alone is not enough.
These speech recognition systems must be able to distinguish between homophones (words that sound the same but mean something different), to distinguish proper names from separate words ("Tim Cook" is an individual, not merely a search request for a cook called Tim), and more.
Ultimately, speech recognition accuracy determines whether or not they become voice assistants. It certainly answers the question of which voice assistants are the best on the market right now; In terms of speech accuracy, innovation and usability, and compatibility with other smart systems.
Apple’s Siri
Apple's Siri was the first voice assistant launched by mainstream tech companies in 2011.
Since then, it has been integrated into all iPhones, iPods, Apple Watch, Homepod, Mac computers, and Apple TVs.
Through your phone, Siri is being used as a major user interface for automobiles and wireless AirPods earbuds in Apple's Carplay infotainment system.
With the release of Sirikit, a development tool that allows third-party companies to integrate with Siri and HomePod‌, Apple's initiative Intelligent Speaker (after the success of Amazon Echo and Google Home), voice assistant capabilities Become strong.
There is always Siri with you, whether on the road, at home or even literally on your body. This gives Apple a big advantage in terms of adoption.
Although Apple has a big head when it comes to Siri, many users are frustrated by the inability of the device to understand and execute voice commands.
Naturally, being as quick as possible means getting too many errors for a function that does not work as well as the function.
But, to this day Siri is notorious for misinterpreting voice orders, even by providing a list of nearby liquor stores to respond to requests for help with alcohol poisoning.
If you ask Siri to send you a text message or call on your behalf, it can be done easily. However, when it comes to communicating with third-party apps, Siri is slightly less powerful than its rivals, working with only six types of apps: ride-hailing and sharing; Message and call; Photo search; Payment; Fitness; And auto infotainment system.
Why?
Because Apple advises that "users should not use voice commands without human experience, and what can be done to ensure that Siri works well". Is ", Reuters reports.
Siri will open any ride service app on your iPhone and you can book on the go. Gives you options like traveling to the airport and ordering a car.
Focusing on the system capability of follow-up questions, language translation, and re-incorporation of Siri's voice into a more human-Esque will definitely help to iron out the voice assistant's user experience.
In addition, Apple controls its rivals by country in terms of availability and thus makes sense of the slang of a foreign accent. Siri is available in more than 30 countries and over 20 languages - and, in some cases, many different dialects.
By comparison, Google Home is only available in seven countries and can only speak four languages 'simply' (English, German, French and Japanese), although it does support multiple versions of some languages. Alexa, on the other hand, can only handle English (U.S. and U.K.) and German.
Amazon Alexa
Inside Amazon's smash-hit Amazon Echo smart speakers, as well as the newly released Echo Show (voice-controlled tablet) and Echo Spot (voice-controlled alarm clock), Alexa is one of the most popular voice assistants today.
While Apple focuses on areas where it has the capacity and expertise to meet its needs, Amazon does not impose such restrictions on Alexa.
Instead, a voice assistant with a lot of "skills" (the term for applications on your Echo Assist devices) will "get the reliable following, even if they make occasional mistakes and are easy to use." Will try harder ".
Although some users have set Alexa's word recognition rate as a shadow behind other voice platforms, the good news is that Alexa will adapt to your voice over time with those with your unique voice or dialect. The problem can also be solved.
In terms of skills, Amazon's Alexa Skill Kit (ASK) probably pushed Alexa into a bonafide platform. ASK allows third-party developers to create applications and tap into Alexa's power without local support.
With over 30,000 skills and growing, Alexa has integrated Siri, Google Voice, and Cortana in terms of third-party integration. With the incentive to "add voice to your big ideas and more customers" (not to mention the ability to build for free in the cloud, "no coding knowledge required"), it's no surprise that developers are putting content on the skills platform. To
While some may not be able to help draw parallels with Apple's Appstore, it's catching the attention of developers trying to keep content - any content - on their platform regardless of whether it's worthwhile or not.
Its integration with smart home devices such as cameras, door locks, entertainment systems, lighting, and thermostats is another big selling point for Alexa.
Lastly, give users complete control over their home whether they are in bed or on the move. With Amazon's Smart Home Skill API (another third-party developer tool similar to ASK), you'll be able to control devices connected to customers from millions of Alexa-enabled endpoints.
When you ask Siri to add something to your shopping list, she adds it to your shopping list - without actually buying for you. Alexa goes one step further though.
If you ask Alexa to re-order her debris bags, she will go through Amazon and order them. You can order millions of Amazon products without lifting a finger; Natural and unique ability to surpass Alexa's rivals.
Microsoft’s Cortana
Based on the artificially intelligent role of the 26th century in the Halo video game series, Cortana launched in 2014 as part of Windows Phone 8.1, the next major update to Microsoft's mobile operating system.
At the end of 2017, Microsoft announced that its speech recognition system had reached an error rate of 5.1%. It surpassed the 5.9% error rate reached by a team of researchers from Microsoft Artificial Intelligence and Research in October 2016 and keeps its accuracy on par with professional human transcription, with benefits such as the ability to hear text multiple times.
In this race, every inch is important; When Microsoft announced its 5.9% accuracy rate at the end of 2016, they were ahead of Google. However, the fastest-moving year surpasses Google - but only 0.2%.
While percentages and accuracy rates are important, Cortana distinguishes itself from other voice assistants based on real, human-assisted assistants.
Rival services dig into data from devices, your search history, cookie trails you left on the Internet. While this is often useful, it can also be annoying in the form of non-stop notifications or it can scare the smart system into knowing too much about you.
We all saw 2001: the mother of all sensitive computers, the HAL 9000, was murdered with her pale red-eye and soft-butter robot voice.
To prevent this, Microsoft spoke with several high-level personal assistants, all of whom found that they had notebooks with important information about the person they were looking at. It was this simple idea that prompted Microsoft to create a virtual "notebook" for Cortana that would store personal information and anything Cortana approved for viewing and use.
It's not a privacy control panel, but it's exactly what Cortana does and gives you a little more control over what's not accessible.
For example, if you are not comfortable with Cortana accessing your email, you can add or remove access to your notebook. Another special feature? Cortana always asks you if she stores any information in her notebook.
Microsoft has teamed up with Halo developers on visual themes as well as voice actress Jane Taylor for Cortana's voice. These elements bring Cortana to life and form the personality and emotion to a system that would not have happened without that cooperation. Cortana’s personality shines through in everyday use - along with funny reactions from her circuit boards.
In addition to Google Assistant and Google Search, Cortana is supported by Microsoft's Bing search engine. This allows Cortana to chew up the data needed to answer your burning questions.
And, like Amazon, Microsoft has come up with its own home smart speaker, the Invoque, which performs many of the functions of its rival devices. As soon as Microsoft hits the market there is another big advantage - Cortana is available on all Windows computers and mobiles running Windows 10.
Google Assistant
Tumblr media
One of the most common responses to a question these days is "LMGTFY". In other words, "Google me".
This only makes sense when Google Assistant talks about answering (and understanding) any questions.
From asking to translate a phrase into another language, to change the number of butter columns to one cup, Google Assistant not only provides the correct answer but also provides some additional context and source information for the website This suggests that Google's powerful search technology supports it, perhaps with a surprising exception.
Although Amazon's Alexa was released two years ago (via the Echo introduction) than Google Home, Google has made significant progress in capturing Alexa in a very short period of time. Google Home was released in late 2016, and within a year, it had already established itself as Alexa's most meaningful rival.
By the end of 2017, Google had stated a 95% word accuracy rate for American English; Currently the highest of all voice-assistants. It turns out to have a word error rate of 4.9% - Google is the first in the group to fall below the 5% limit.
While some have tried to strike back at Amazon, Google has released several similar products for Amazon. For example, Google Home is reminiscent of Amazon's Echo and Amazon Echo Dot's Google Home Mini.
Recently, Google announced some new, important partnerships with Lenovo, LG, and Sony to launch a series of assistant-powered "smart displays" that will once again resemble Amazon's Echo Show.
Nuance’s Dragon Assistant and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Although Nance did not come with a smart home speaker, their Dragon Assistant, and Dragon natural speech systems have been used as the backbone of speech recognition for other technology companies. "I need to be able to talk without touching my phone," said Vlad Sejonha, chief technology officer at Nance Communications. "It's constantly listening for trigger words and pop up the calendar or create a text message or browser where you want to navigate".
Nance's voice-recognition technology is largely centered around speech systems in the car; Embedded dictation capability and bringing interactive information to the car.
“Another development involves a deeper level of understanding,” says Nance’s lead solution architect John West.
West argues, "Here, the goal is not just to identify speech, but to gather meaning and purpose that enables voice-driven systems to respond intelligently, in a way that meets the needs of the user."
What is the best voice assistant?
Here's what we know
With over 400 million devices using Google Assistant, including Google Home speakers and Android phones, the company's voice assistant is now installed on more than 400 million computers and devices.
Similarly, Microsoft has officially stated that Windows 10 has 400 million active users; Exclude mobiles running a single system.
Since Amazon’s Alexa is only available on their Echo speakers, this number will definitely reduce the number of dwarves competing against Alexa.
On the other hand, with over 300 million iPhones worldwide by mid-2001, Siri took advantage of this space - not to mention the number of people who owned an Apple Watch, MacBook, or iPad.
With the support of millions of pre-existing users for the tech giants mentioned above, a simple software update is needed to integrate their post-voice assistants worldwide.
For example, people with Google's Pixel phones will be part of the Google Ecosystem. They are more likely to invest in Google Home Speaker, so they can get entangled with YouTube, Google Search, Google Maps, and more. Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft users are the same, without the least repetition of what ecosystem and what products they spend on.
It may depend on the use case.
After all, there is no one-size-fits-all winner when it comes to voice assistants.
If you like the Apple-consumer, Siri and its wide distribution across all Apple products will help you.
If you want to make your home a smart home, Alexa already has thousands of software and hardware integrations ready.
If you've been looking for a helper who can answer all your weird and amazing questions, Google Assistant's search engine will find the rest. If you want a little more control over what information your digital assistant has access to, Microsoft's Cortana has that functionality.
Collaboration that sets the bar high
The recently announced partnership between Microsoft and Amazon on August 30, 2017, is the real deal-breaker here.
This is correct. Alexa and Cortana are officially working together. Since both companies do not have popular smartphones (unlike Google and Apple), they have changed their assistants to suit their strengths.
Users can say "Alexa, Open Cortana" on their Echo devices and "Open Cortana, Alexa" on their Windows 10 devices.
Alexa customers will be able to remember Cortana's special features, such as booking meetings or accessing work calendars, picking flowers, or read your work email on your way home.
Similarly, Cortana customers can ask Alexa to control their smart home devices, shop on Amazon.com, and communicate with more than 30,000 skills built by third-party developers.
Therefore, in terms of voice-activation and digital assistants leading this new industry, Amazon definitely takes the cake.
The company not only supports the creation of other voice-activated technologies through their ASK and Smart Home APIs, but they are also the original inventors to create a smart home speaker with a smart home speaker and screen.
In other words, they are moving faster (and moving forward) than their rivals, all of which are new by continuing to share.
Speech Recognition in-Car
Tumblr media
Voice-activated devices and digital voice assistants not only make things easier.
It’s also about safety - at least when it comes to speech recognition in the car.
Companies like Apple, Google, and Nance are completely changing the driver experience in their vehicles; Allows drivers to focus on the road with the intention of eliminating the distraction of looking down on their mobile phones while they drive.
Instead of texting while driving, you can now tell who to call your car to or which restaurant to navigate.
Instead of scrolling through Apple Music to find your favorite playlist, you can ask Siri to find and play it for you.
If your car is running low on fuel, your speech system will not only let you know if your car needs refueling but also point to the nearest fuel station and ask if you have any specific brands. Priority to this
Or you can be warned that the petrol station of your choice is too far to reach with the rest of the fuel.
As advantageous as it may seem in the ideal scenario, speech technology in a car is dangerous if applied before high-speed accuracy. The study found that voice-activated technology in cars actually causes a higher level of cognitive distraction. This is because it is as new as technology; Engineers are still working on software kinks.
But, as rate speech recognition technology and artificial intelligence are improving, we can’t stay behind the wheel in a few years.
Speech Recognition Apps and Devices
Voice assistants are making a big difference in our personal lives, according to a recent study by Voice Labs that 30% of respondents cite smart home devices as the main reason for investing in Amazon Echo or Google Home.
This next generation of 'communication' technology provides users with a way to use the clumsy remote control interface.
Therefore, it allows consumers to talk and communicate with their electronics as they further increase the ease of human use and reduce the barrier to access to technology products.
Engineers must work hard to create an abundance of voice-controlled devices that can integrate with the voice technology of leading digital assistants; From appliances and safety devices to thermostats and alarm systems.
Nest, for example, is a company that invests capital in the new voice-technology frontier. “Your smart home should not be dumb,” the company said.
With the Nest Thermostat, you can use the Amazon Echo to control the temperature in your home with simple voice commands. Or, pre-order the Nest Hello Video Doorbell and get the Google Home Mini at no cost when shipping. From alarm systems to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, Nest Protect thinks, speaks, and warns your device.
Bringing these voice assistants to the office in future applications of speech recognition, beyond the home.
In late 2017, Amazon announced new voice-activated tools for the office, hoping that verbal commands such as "Alexa, Print My Spreadsheet" would extend to normal office tasks. Microsoft's Cortana has begun to handle some other office tasks, such as scheduling meetings, recording meeting minutes, and arranging travel.
Today, only a handful of high-ranking officials have their own personal assistants. With the introduction of AI digital assistants in the workplace, everyone can be one.
To access the company's financial data from last week to last year, please ask your Google Assistant to create a graph showing the year's increase in click-through rates - there are many uses for implementing Digital-Assistant in the workplace.
Think about it - just like electronic computers, voice can go manually through the files on your computer so that paper records can be easily changed shortly before.
Video Games with Voice Control
Tumblr media
In these use cases, speech recognition techniques have been implemented with the aim of simplifying our lives, which is also evolving in other areas. Namely, in the gaming industry.
Creating video games is already exceptionally difficult.
Plots, gameplay, character development, customizable gear, lottery systems, worlds, etc. can take years to display properly. Not only that, the game can change and adapt based on the actions of each player.
Now, imagine adding another level to gaming with Speech Recognition technology.
Many companies that create this idea do so with the intention of making gaming more accessible to those who are visually and/or physically challenged, as well as immersing players further in the gameplay by launching another layer of integration.
Voice control can reduce the learning curve for beginners, with less emphasis on recognizing controls; The player can start talking immediately.
In other words: it can now be very challenging for game developers to collect hundreds (if not thousands) of voice data, speech technology integration, testing, and coding to keep their international audience.
However, despite all the goals that tech companies are shooting and overcoming challenges, there are already video games that believe the benefits outweigh the barriers.
Even mobile games and apps are now capable of using voice-activation in addition to the classic console and PC versions. Seaman, starring Leonard Nimoy as a sarcastic man-fish, debuted in the late 1990s, and Mass Effect 3, released in 2012, is just the latest example of speech technology in video games.
What is our history, where are we going?
Speech recognition has made major advances in the last decade; it's been 1,000 years in the voice technology market. Magic eight ball to today.
The intense level of competition we see among these tech giants in the industry and the growing trend of companies creating materials in space indicates that we still have a long way to go.

Listening-Reading Method - Example and Summary
If you would like to try the Listening-Reading Method with Daomubiji:
I’ve made a list of materials to use. The mtlnovel site’s english translations are not ideal, but they are in small chunks to glance at and are from google translate probably (so as good as making a parallel text yourself with machine translation). Also, mtlnovel uses traditional chinese for it’s raw text - which is enough for me even though I’m more comfortable with simplified, since I’m mainly using the parallel text for Step 3 (and so the chinese text is just to keep track of the audio as it lines up to the english translation). For step 2 I am using the original daomubiji.org site. This version on mtlnovel is only needed if you want a parallel text.
If you’re okay using 2 texts, then just use the dmbj original site for the chinese text, and the english published novels either in kindle or print format for the english text. For Step 3, you would use primarily the english text and try to open up the chinese text copy if you lose place with where the audio aligns to the plot.
Audio Material:
Audiobook - I believe this one is longer, more complete, and it reads slower and more clearly: https://m.5tps.me/play_m/1410_48_1_1.html
Audiobook on ximayala - this one is incomplete but I believe in progress, it reads faster and more slurred BUT I think its useful for Step 2. To get used to real native speech speeds and how in real speech people talk a bit less clearly - on a second listen though, I could hear everything perfectly, so the narrator’s voice is still pretty standard in the sense its as good as some voices in drama dubs: http://xima.tv/mPWuED?_sonic=0
*Other audio options. If for some reason you have no access to the above, or if they disappear, in a pinch a machine generated voice will probably be better than nothing. Options include Pleco Reader’s automatic reader voice (which is fairly good about correct word pronunciation, although the rhythm of sentences is not always natural). I have used that to listen to things before, and it is relatively helpful. It also allows you to control speed - so its very good as an intermediate listening step if you need something ‘slower’ at first. Another option is Talkify. This website it free, just paste in the daomubiji.org webpage. I’ve used it to read dmbj before and it sounds useful enough, I’ve also used it to read my own fanfictions back to me when I’m walking or hiking and trying to refresh what I wrote so I can do the next chapter - and except for names, the voice reader worked very well. In general I’d recommend talkify if you ever want something audio to listen to, and have no better human made recordings: https://talkify.net/web-reader-read-any-website-aloud
Text Material:
Parallel text on mtlnovel. To get the parallel text version you must - create a free account, then on the chapter page click ‘Settings’ at the top and turn on ‘RAW’ so you see traditional chinese over the english: https://www.mtlnovel.com/daomu-biji/chapter-1-seven-stars-lu-king-blood-corpse/
Original Text. You can use Pleco Reader, or an in-web-browser pop up dictionary to lookup words as you read through this in Step 2, if you’d like to learn any new words in step 2: http://www.daomubiji.org/1.html
English literary translation is the published novel. This is available as ebooks or as a print novel. I own the print novel. Print and Kindle edition available here: https://www.amazon.com/Grave-Robbers-Chronicles-vol-1-6/dp/1934159379/ref=sr_1_1?crid=25A1XI175ECCN&dchild=1&keywords=the+grave+robbers+chronicles+set&qid=1599926362&sprefix=the+grave+robbe%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-1
*Free english translation - if you want a fast easily accessible free version, it will be a machine translation. Either use mltnovel’s dmbj version (you can turn off RAW if you only want to see the english). Or, just go to the daomubiji.org site and either right-click in Chrome “translate to english” or go to baidutranslate and have that machine-translate the webpage.
*A note on using machine translations: Both machine translations have their own set of flaws, I find both to get the translations wrong in slightly different ways. Both are relatively followable though, if they’re your only options. I would highly suggest knowing an overview of chinese grammar before looking at a machine translation - I found that with all machine translations, they mess up he/she/it a lot, they mess up if something is just being labelled a noun/nickname (instead saying ‘child’ or ‘head’ or ‘team’), they mess up if something is a name or specific object (proper names get weirdly wrong-pinyin translated, and objects that could be both proper names OR regular nouns get confused - for example Fei Ye in Silent Reading ‘Master Fei’ is often translated as Grandpa Fei, and ‘Captain’ Luo as in police captain, is translated as Team Luo. In dmbj, things like ‘3rd kid’ are translated as if they were proper names instead of the words ‘3rd kid,’ and ‘experienced men squatting down’ gets translated as ‘Tofus mound’ in chapter 1 since I’m guessing it looked like a ‘name’ to the machine translation.) So having some basic chinese knowledge, and seeing a parallel text first, will help you catch these clear errors and ignore them. Using a human translation such as the published books, or fan’s translations, will be better in the sense these issues will be largely removed.
A refresher, on what the Listening-Reading Method is:
Step 1 (optional, but helps with context, so recommended unless you already are familiar with your chosen story): Read the story in your Language 1 (a language you know well, english in this example).
Step 2 (optional, if you are already comfortable with the language you are studying’s speed of speech and hearing the boundaries of words/sentences): Read through the story in Language 2 (a language you are learning, chinese in this example). Focus on keeping your eyes lined up with the words as they are spoken, on following the text as the audio plays along. Focus on noticing the different sounds in the language, the word boundaries, the phrase and sentence boundaries. At this step, you do not need to actually look up and define every word you don’t know. The focus is on getting familiar with the audio sentences and getting used to hearing it as sentences and words. You may, if you desire, look up word meanings as you run across new words, but this is optional. I personally like to do this step twice - once with a machine-audio like Pleco reader, so I can stop and look up/replay word audio whenever I am curious about specific words. Then the second time with human narrator audio, not pausing the audio at all and just following along as I read. If I struggle to follow along, then I listen/read again until I can easily look at the words as I hear the audio without losing my place.
Step 3 (the only mandatory step, and can be done immediately if you’re comfortable with both context and listening to the language-you’re-studying already): Read the Language 1 (english) translation, while listening to the Language 2 (chinese) audio. You can either use a parallel text with both languages - so that you can reference the Language 2 lines when you lose your place/want a clear visual match up to what you hear. Or you can use only the Language 1 text. The goal is to match the translation (the ‘definition’) with audio you are hearing, so that you can make the connection that what you hear ‘means’ what you’re reading. So far from my experience, I would say Language 1 only text works better when the audio is shorter or of simpler content, because its harder to get ‘lost’ and lose where the audio matches up to the Language 1 translation. The longer the audio, the more a parallel text helps prevent you from losing your place between the audio versus the equivalent Language 1 translation. Also, the more you have already looked up definitions in Step 2 Language 2 reading, then the less likely you will be to get lost as you listen-read in this Step 3.  Ideally, try to listen without pausing. Attempt to match the meaning of the  Language 1 (english) sentences you’ve just read, as you hear the equivalent audio Language 2 sentences (chinese). Your goal is to see the meaning in real time of each word you hear, since you’re visually looking at the translation right before/as you hear it. Ideally, this should create a situation where most of your input is now ‘comprehensible input.’ Mainly just focus on trying to keep the text translations you read roughly matched up in your mind with the audio you hear. You will notice you are starting to comprehend/understand some of the L2 (chinese) phrases and words. You may repeat a section over a few times, or you may simply progress on to the next paragraph/page/chapter as desired. Over time, as you get more input, you should start to comprehend more of what you’re hearing. As you comprehend more, you should be able to match the audio with the equivalent english translation easier. As you do this, you should free up some of your ‘focus’ so you can start picking out what each specific WORD you hear is the equivalent english translation of.  I would recommend testing this method with an easier learning material first - I tested this with chapter 1 of The Little Prince. But any short story with both language texts, and audio, will do. If its easier, you will reach the point quicker where you can start purposefully focusing on matching what you hear to specific translation definitions as you read - which is the point at which you are actually LEARNING new words/phrases in the language you’re learning. If the text is so complex you’re easily getting lost, then it will be harder for you to do this at first - and it will be harder for you to tell if that’s what you’re doing at all. Once you know HOW to do it, then go to a harder long text and attempt to do the same thing. With harder texts, you may find that at first you need to do Step 3 a few times on a single section of text, until its easier for you to keep track of your place in the text aligned with audio - and THEN work on the actual task of matching what you hear to it’s translation/definition. Even with the easier material, I did step 3 twice on one section of text, because the first time I was too lost to properly follow the text with the audio. Also - you will likely notice that your audio does NOT match up perfectly with your translated text (either they changed some sentences in the translation, or the audio is based on a different original text version etc). So a second listen through of Step 3, you’ll be able to anticipate those parts and not get lost because of them.  The person who shared the Listening-Reading method suggests working through long texts (like long novels) from start to finish. Perhaps by page or chapter sections of text (if you need to do Step 1 and 2 first). Then they suggest going through a book a few times in Step 3. They say you will notice you comprehend more as you get further into the book in Step 3, and by the 3rd time through the book you should comprehend nearly everything. Based on their suggestions, I would say you will start to notice on a small scale if this method is giving you progress once you are several chapters in. And if you are on your second Step 3 trip through a story, and STILL do not comprehend much - then either you did something incorrectly (probably step 3) or this study method just is not helpful for you. But do not expect near-perfect comprehension until at the minimum towards the end of the story, or at least after a few full progressions through the story.
***Lastly, if all else fails: just doing Step 1 and a modified version of Step 2 is literally just a great study strategy to read in a target language, so you can utilize those parts to make this adventure into trying L-R not a total waste, even if L-R doesn’t work out for you. For modifying Step 2: you would just do one sequence of Step 2 where you DO look up every word you need to in order to understand that version of the text. That is basically reading in your target language for the goal of comprehending the actual main meaning and gist of the plot, with definition look-up. Ideally, you’d at some point want to also do the rest of Step 2 - the focus on using it to match the audio with word and phrase boundaries, and get used to the speed of the language. If you are good enough in a language already to follow the main gist of a plot just by reading with NO lookup - then step 2 will already probably count as extensive reading, which probably benefits you to a degree. And the focus on matching audio to text will help bring your listening skills up to your reading skill level. As far as I can tell, Step 3 just seems to be a different way to do that ‘intensive definition lookup of all words you don’t know’ in a way that has no stopping or pausing, is more fast paced, and incorporates listening skills into it, than traditional intensive-reading word lookup. So it makes sense why Step 3 feels very intensive and requires a lot of focus - if you’re doing it right, it probably feels as intense as intensive reading. (If you do step 3 wrong, it will probably feel just like listening to an audiobook in Language 2 in the background - you’ll hear things you already know and get better at recognizing them, but not understand anything extra over time). But unlike intensive reading, you will be also adding in listening comprehension practice, and you’ll be doing it VERY FAST. Having tried out L-R, it feels much faster paced and therefore motivating than intensive reading - since constant word lookups in traditional intensive reading can easily make it feel like you’re hardly reading/progressing. Also, the intensity required to pick up new words in Step 3 means that STEP 1 IS VITAL. You must already understand the key story points BEFORE starting step 3, you must already have context! Otherwise, you will be repeating Step 3 a few extra times because the first time around you might mainly just be reading the translation to pick up the initial plot/context. Now, if you’re cool with repeating Step 3 a few extra times, that’s fine. But if you want Step 3 to feel less ‘intense’ on its demand of your focus, then already being familiar with the source story material is ideal. Step 2 is also vital IF you realize that you’re losing your place in the text vs audio too often in Step 3. Otherwise, again, you will have to do Step 3 a few extra times (or pause/restart audio multiple times) in order to make sure you can match your place in the audio with your place in the translation. The ability to match audio to translation, was what I had the most difficulty doing, when trying to do L-R with daomubiji (since the audio is so long).

Headcanon ahoy!
Ahh, I can’t believe how much fun I had writing Danceverse Ultra Magnus (semi OC) in my Stories Tell Us fic. I was waiting for an opportunity to spotlight him for a bit while he did his Guardian bot stuff AND finally bring to light my headcanon about his specific race / language.
I call Mags a “semi OC” because he’s a named character in the franchise, but hasn’t been seen in the Bayverse movies, so I yanked him up for myself. He first showed up in Lines as a white Kenworth t800 and later changed over to an International LoneStar.
Kenworth

LoneStar
Tumblr media
Ultra Magnus is a Rustian.
Rustians are native to the Sea of Rust, which is like a hybrid of a desert and a plain and the rust storms make Earth’s sandstorms look like dust puffs. Rustians are Cybertron’s equivalent to the indigenous peoples around the Earth, like Aborigines, First Nations, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, etc..
Autobots are respectful of Rustians. Decepticons...not so much. I’ll get more into that soon.
The racial slur Decepticons use against Rustians is Junkions or Junkers-- it hurts them like the N-word hurts black people. The term exists in Decepticon mumblings because Rustian homes look like piles of junk from the outside, while inside it’s clean, neat and cozy. They build like that because the Sea of Rust is known for its rust storms, and the “junky” looking homes let the wind and blowing rust slide around buildings instead of battering against them and piling up to block the exit doors.
You can call Rustians a Rusty or Rusties because that’s what they’ll playfully call themselves (in their language), but the J-word will get you a one-strike warning if you’re ignorant, and repeats get you smacked in the mouth and kicked out of the social circle. Avoid the J-word!
Rustians are excellent storytellers. They’re notorious for it! It’s how they pass on knowledge. They love hearing other peoples’ stories, too, the more gripping the better. A favorite game of theirs is for a group to retell a known story with the most absurd twists they can make up without changing the story’s outcome. You lose the game if your addition changes the plot and you win if you’re able to finish the story to its proper end while laughing your aft off. Like, they might tell you the plot to the Die Hard movies, but everybody is wearing tutus or has rainbow colored teeth, or all the cars drive backwards, that kind of stuff.
Rustians evolved for a long time without any contact from the rest of Cybertron, so they have their own language, writing system, culture, beliefs and technology that is totally separate from the Autobots and Decepticons.
The first outside contact Rustians had with anyone was with the Primes, who they saw as gods capable of appearing and disappearing at will. It was a glowing contact with kindness exchanged from both sides. Then the Fallen came through later and wiped out a lot of Rustians to prevent a Prime from emerging, and it became the first time Rustians had ever seen death. Death was so new to them that they had to invent a word for it because one didn’t exist.
They thought they somehow angered the gods and came up with prayers, music and poetry to try to appease them and prevent it from happening again. The fear of angry gods appearing gradually faded, but the legends, stories, songs, prayers and poetry about it continued through history.
The Rustians’ second outside contact was the Decepticons, who arrived shortly after Ultra Magnus’ generation first saw the stars. The Rustians were still hurt and the population was slowly recovering from the Fallen’s unprovoked attack. They were no slouch with weaponry and combat, so they were able to put up a fight against the ‘Cons. The problem was they were outnumbered.
And Optimus showed up with a small convoy, having tracked the ‘Cons to the Sea of Rust. He realized he didn’t have enough bots with him to hold off the Decepticons in the Sea of Rust, and the Rustians knew they didn’t have enough people to hold off the Decepticons either.
The language barrier made communication almost impossible, so Optimus made his intent to team up with the previously-unknown bots clear by only pointing his weapons at the Decepticons, never the Rustians. They figured out the rest pretty quick.
Let me make it clear that both teams were screwed if they didn’t join forces, it wasn’t the Rustians getting totally clobbered until the Autobots saved the day. The Autobots were getting clobbered, too. Neither group had a chance of winning on their own. It was a mutual agreement to combine their armies and drive the ‘Cons away. The Rustian Optimus fought back to back with as a team happened to be a young Ultra Magnus. After the battle, they worked patiently through the language barrier and established communication.
Ultra Magnus recognized the Prime engraving on Optimus’ helm and believed him appearing when he did was an apology from the gods for bringing death into their ranks, so he did what people do with a sincere apology-- he accepted. He invited Optimus to immerse himself in the Rustian way of life and taught him their culture, religion, music, stories and their spoken and written language. Optimus offered Ultra Magnus the same in return, which began a complete and equal cultural exchange. Nobody forced anybody to change who they were even though there was quite a bit of culture shock in the beginning. Everybody got over it and worked out a harmonious coexistence. :)
Rustians weren’t technologically behind the Autobots. They had a lot of medical tools and navigation methods the Autobots had never seen, and likewise the Autobots had weaponry and construction equipment the Rustians had never seen. They filled in each others’ technological gaps and got stronger for it.
Btw, some Rustian tech looks like something out of a steampunk comic because that’s their style. A lot of their art and sculptures are clockwork stuff that moves.
The technological exchange let the Rustians start building “underground” underneath Cybertron’s top layer. A lot of them started living beneath the Sea of Rust as much as living on it.
Optimus told the Rustians he had no desire to erase their culture or their way of life, but he knew the Decepticons wouldn’t hesitate to do exactly that. He offered them a place in the Autobot army if they wanted one, and they were all over it. There are no Rustians in the Decepticon ranks. Not one.
Rustians have a very distinct accent when they speak Cybertronian; the human equivalent would be somebody speaking English with a Jamaican Patois accent. A non-Rustian who learns to speak enough Rustian to communicate will have a strong and obvious accent, too, like an English speaker speaking Patois.
Ultra Magnus is perpetually amused by Optimus’ command of Rustian. Optimus comes from the southernmost tip of Simfur and has the Cybertronian equivalent of a thick rural Alabama drawl. Sentinel Prime “cleaned up” his speech a bit and trained him out of his tendency to mumble, but the drawl is bleepin’ obvious in the way he pronounces words. Optimus sounds funny when he speaks Rustian, but he speaks it correctly. He knows Rustians find his pronunciation hilarious and he’s fine with the teasing.
Regional Cybertronian accents (Rustian included) don’t show up when bots speak Earth languages because they download those and pick up whatever regional accent they scan off human voice transmissions, like people talking on cell phones, Skype and so forth.
Rustian has to be learned, so you can’t download it off a dead bot and suddenly be able to write / speak it. Only a native speaker of the language can teach it properly, and there’s a lot of nuance outsiders will never pick up and mimic perfectly.
Here’s a small taste of the language. One phrase will be familiar if you’ve been in the TF fandom for awhile.
Bah weep gragnah wheep nini bong is a universal peace greeting that means “I arrive at your presence peacefully and harbor no ill intent towards you”.
Bah weep is a greeting for when you’re arriving, literally “I arrive” or “I come”.
Nini weep is a greeting to somebody who is arriving, literally “you arrive” or “you come.”
Bah gneh is a farewell you say when you’re leaving, literally “I go”.
Nini gneh is a farewell you say when somebody else is leaving, literally “you go.”
The Rustians gave the Autobots and Decepticons nicknames in their language. Autobots are affectionately referred to “shinies” (ar ang) and Decepticons are derided as “sharpies” (ing arg). They refer to anyone in general who isn’t Rustian as nileeng. It’s a non-offensive term that means “others”.
The Rustian “I love you” is bah ethsteo nini.
Ultra Magnus’ name is still his Rustian name. Ult Ra Mag Nus. He’s got a name people can easily squish together and pronounce in Autobot, Decepticon and English. It means warrior elemental or warrior of the elements, and references an old story describing a Rustian who faces and overcomes the four elements-- ground, fluid, flame and air.
Rustian language sounds like total gibberish to someone unfamiliar with it. Listening to two native speakers of it sounds a lot like radio interference where two frequencies mix up because they talk fast. Optimus asked if he could utilize the spoken and written language as a code language. That was totally cool with the Rustians, and from then on you were likely to find a Rustian sitting in on listening posts and teaching Rustian in the Autobot Academy. They could relay information over Decepticon channels to help conceal Autobot frequencies, and the Decepticons still haven’t caught on to the trick.
Rustians like Ultra Magnus became the Cybertronian equivalent to Navajo code talkers. The written language looks like a bunch of dots, so somebody could carve or shoot holes in something to say “there’s 200 ‘Cons holed up here” or “Warning: Snipers” without alerting the Decepticons that they were onto them.
A Rustian who hasn’t scanned another planet’s vehicles looks distinctly different from other Cybertronians due to their protomatter coming from the Sea of Rust and living life where rust storms can scour a nice paint job off in a matter of hours.
Tumblr media
Rustians are matte and appear rusted, like old vehicles left out in nature for years and years, but they're in good physical condition. They don’t creak, they aren’t breaking down and they can move like any other bot.
Their optics are white, though a lot of them got blue filters voluntarily so people knew they were friendly to the Autobot cause, and they can turn the blue off any time they want.
White optics help them see and be seen in heavy rust storms where rust is blowing like sand. Rustians in their native environment will paint reflective stripes on their faces and wear a scarf around their neck with reflectors arranged in decorative patterns to aid in visibility, and they can flip the scarf over and scrape off the paint to camouflage themselves if they need to.
Their creation story says their optics are white because Primus swept the stars from the sky to light the Sea of Rust and the stars became the lens through which they see the beauty of the universe. Cybertron’s oldest star charts are Rustian in origin.
Rustians who scanned an alien vehicle are almost indistinguishable from any other Autobot, so you can’t spot them in a lineup unless you know what to look and listen for. Like all Cybertronians, Rustians don’t attach too deeply to their physical appearances aside from their dot glyphs. They keep those no matter what form they take, and they’re easy to miss. All Rustians have a dot glyph somewhere on their body, so those glyphs, an occasional glimpse of optics without blue filters and noticing an accent if they speak Autobot Cybertronian are the only hints that you’re talking to a Rustian.
Ultra Magnus’ dots are on the backs of his hands. He’s got a whole bunch of other Autobot Cybertronian glyphs on his body, kind of like somebody who has a lot of tattoos.
But Ultra Magnus isn’t the only Rustian. They are a minority in the sense of not many are left after war tore Cybertron apart, but they’re not in danger of going extinct.
So I headcanon an onscreen bot as also being Rustian because he’s got dots right smack out there on his chin.
Tumblr media
It’s green duster double-gun boi, aka Crosshairs.
Crosshairs goes by Crosshairs because the Autobots have a hell of a time trying to pronounce Kroz Stiz Ay Ras correctly (humans can’t either!) and he got tired of non-Rustians butchering it, so he goes by an Autobot approximation that doesn’t make him cringe. His Rustian name means aims well and swift because he’s ridiculously good at sharpshooting while moving fast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I hinted that Rustian survives into the future in the same way languages evolve over time, but readers didn’t know it at the time because I hadn’t “brought out” my headcanon for Mags and Crossy yet. The roots of Rustian words still exist a trillion years after the Autobots first touched down on Earth.
In Tin Man’s Treasure, the main Trillian characters (distant techno-organic descendants of humans) are named Eth and Steo. :)

ten Top Tips For Effectively Learning to speak spanish Quickly
Tumblr media
escuela de español en Barcelona If a person are considering learning to speak spanish or even have just started away, after that these10 tips tend to be designed especially for you! This would be great with regard to an individual if you might use all of all of them an excellent not, pick out there those that you may use as well as implement them.
escuela de español en Barcelona
1 ) Psychological Preparation:
Too many individuals believe that they will become able to just get the first Spanish training course away a shelf and also inside a few weeks end up being able to hold straight down a full blown discussion within Spanish... nothing can be farther from the reality! Learning Spanish is difficult and anyone who states various is either growing upon the facts a small or, a qualified linguist, which does make these a specialist in their area I guess! Being ready psychologically for the challenge forward will always be the key ingredient within your achievement.
Do not set your self unreachable targets, like having the ability to speak Spanish fluently inside 6 weeks! There is actually nothing which is more probably to make you provide up your own quest compared to consistently faltering to accomplish your goals so anyone should continually be realistic.

You are going to enjoy learning Spanish a lot better and become much a lot more successful at this in case you are able for you to put several sentences with each other within a 7 days instead than being able to help successfully remember the everlasting article, topic pronouns along with whatever else very first few days of grammar research tosses at you.
Once a person are ready to go and talking Spanish with confidence, grammar will certainly become much easier in order to discover and it may just be a situation connected with tweaking what an individual already know.

Noises funny I know, yet purchase yourself a prevent of post-its and stay them everywhere in your current home with the Spanish language term for that item written with them (with typically the exception of the spouse, kids and domestic pets, although tortoises are okay! ).
A person will be amazed in how fast you will choose up the vocabulary regarding everyday objects... 'Everyday' becoming the important word right here. We are never surprised any kind of longer through the vocabulary that will Spanish classes ask newbies to learn... I am talking about, exactly how many of us are generally going to make use of the terms bullfighting or clod with everyday conversation!
five. Melody in to Spanish TELEVISION and Radio:
Watching Speaking spanish speaking TV or hearing Spanish radio stations can help you obtain a sense for spoken The spanish language since well as keeping anyone caught up with subjects in which Romance language speaking people could possibly be speaking about.
Television might be better since it is simpler to understand what will be being stated if you actually have accompanying pictures.
In case you are busy around the home you could usually follow a method of studying I love to call 'subliminal Spanish'. Change the TV or perhaps radio on to a Spanish language speaking system, turn upward the volume, and and then get along with your chores. Generally there is no need to pay for any attention to just what is getting said.
More than time you will begin to pick out certain words and phrases without concentrating as nicely as becoming utilized to listening to how Spanish is usually voiced.
It is a great idea to begin with news kind programs very first as often the pronunciation is usually any great deal clearer and easy to understand. But sport is not necessarily a good choice since the commentators do tend to be able to get yourself a little excited in addition to talk very quickly, even though it is pleasant for you to listen to!
6. Create Your Personal Flashcards:
We would suggest that a person generate flashcards to assist you learn terminology, somewhat than buying them. I propose this for three factors:
The reason why spend unnecessarily whenever it's basic cheaper to help make them oneself! An individual are able to produce cards utilizing words this are most useful for you The process of really making them can help you keep in mind them, in fact most of the cards you make may well be unnecessary prior to you even use these people!
seven. Become Involved within your Local Speaking spanish Local community:
For those of an individual that live near to, or maybe within, a The spanish language communicating neighborhood, try to blend as much as feasible into their social actions, use the local Romance language conversing supermarkets or day to day, participate in with your Spanish language speaking neighbours whenever achievable.
Not only will this particular benefit your studies however, you will receive a whole lot of help as well as support as well as creating excellent Spanish speaking buddies.

What language is spoken in Jamaica?
Tumblr media
Humans end up affecting each other, whether they wish to or not, and there are multiple things around us that act as proof of this. Neighboring nations share more similarities than would have been possible if they didn’t influence each other. Communities that used to co-exist still celebrate the same festivals even if they live thousands of miles apart now. Culture has been influenced the most in this way, but languages have not remained unaffected either. When the Romans ruled major areas of Europe, their language got adopted by different communities. However, the Latin of the Romans and that of the common people was very different. Today, English enjoys the same position as Latin did during the time of the Roman empire. After the fall of the empire, Latin ended up getting divided into multiple vernaculars. It got mixed with regional tongues and developed into languages like Spanish, French, and Italian. When English reached far off lands due to colonization, it also mingled with local tongues. There are a few branches of it that developed as a result of this mingling. Some of them are going strong even today with a significant number of speakers.
Jamaica:
The third-largest island in the Caribbean has a population of almost three million. The history of Jamaica is proof of how badly the colonizers treated people in the past. African slaves worked on various plantations during the Spanish rule. But even after the British conquered the island and emancipated the African slaves, the region did not become free. The African slaves were replaced by Indians until Jamaica got its independence in 1962. Today, the country is known for producing the fastest men. The credit for that goes to the good diet of Jamaicans and the hard work of their coaches.
Jamaican Language:
A lot of people have no idea what the language of Jamaica is. If you, an English speaker, ever hear a native person speak, their word will sound quite familiar to you. That may come as a surprise to many people. But the more attention you pay to the language, the more it will make sense to you. The reason behind that is pretty simple; the Jamaica language is an English based creole. It does have a lot of West African influences, but it is English that forms its base. During British rule, the African slaves came in contact with English frequently. They adapted it quickly by mixing it with their own tongues and formed the creole, which is the native language of Jamaicans today. It is also spoken by the Jamaican diaspora.
Fun Facts about Patois:
Known as Patois in the country, the vernacular of the Jamaicans is pretty fascinating. Here are a few interesting facts about it: Despite being an English-based creole, Patois has a different pronunciation system. Its vocabulary also differs from English. But in the written form, the influences of the latter can be easily spotted. However, Patois is a spoken tongue for the most part and is used in music, particularly Reggae. English is the vernacular, which is mostly used for literary purposes. But after getting independence from the British, the natives have been trying to develop their own identity, and creating a written form of their tongue is one way to do that. Patois has been considered an inferior language by many. Some people think of it as Jamaican slang. But in truth, it is a proper tongue with its own rules. The people of the country are slowly beginning to understand the importance of their vernacular and giving it the importance it deserves. Reggae, the popular form of music which is known all over the globe, has given Patois more importance over the years. It is because of Reggae that foreigners decided to look up the tongue spoken in Jamaica. They wanted to understand what kind of a vernacular it is and why it sounds familiar at times.
Translation of Patois:
When it comes to a unique tongue like this one, it can be not very easy to find an accurate translation. And if you try your luck with online software, then you will definitely end up with a messy translation. The written Patois is even more complex and can only be understood by linguistic experts. There are many reasons why someone could require a Jamaican translation, but the only way to get an accurate one is by getting in touch with a qualified expert. There are agencies that claim to offer accurate assistance, but the company that hires native translators is the only one you should trust. Their staff will be able to handle documents and audio clips in the best way possible, and you will get your accurate translations at affordable rates. Whether you wish to immigrate to Jamaica or need the linguistic assistance for entertainment content, getting in touch with the right experts is very important. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when you are dealing with a foreign language. However, with the right kind of linguistic assistance, all your worries will be resolved. Finding a good agency can be a bit challenging but not if you get the help of the internet. The reviews left online by people can prove to be very helpful. They will tell you which service provider is not just making claims and actually deliver on their promises whenever they are assigned a project. Read the full article

Can You Learn a Language by Watching the News?
"I'd like to read the news in my new language" is a goal I often hear when I ask people what fluency would mean for them. Perhaps you dream of reading Le Monde in a quirky cafe in Paris. Or maybe you'd to open up the Spiegel Online app while travelling on the S-Bahn in Berlin. Even if reading the news isn't your end goal, it's still a great way to learn a language. When I learn a new language though, I do it because I want to connect with people. I don’t want to stop once I’ve learned how to order food or ask for directions. These are important to know, but they’re just one step in language learning. I wish to truly get to know people. That way, I can get an inside view of their country, culture, ideals and beliefs. Plus, once you get to know people, you’ll likely start talking about common topics of conversation: current events, sports, celebrities, business. Maybe even politics, religion and life goals. This is one reason - among many - why I recommend that language students watch the news. Doing this gives you insight into your target language that’s rarely available through other learning tools. You won’t only be learning about current affairs. Watching the news can teach you new words and phrases and educate you in proper pronunciation. Reading the news will increase your vocabulary and improve your grammar skills. And that’s not all...
The Benefits of Using the News to Learn a Foreign Language
I recommend the news as a language tool for students for many reasons.
The news is a never-ending resource. Most news sites are updated throughout the day. TV news runs around the clock. And so do talk radio stations. You’ll never run out of fresh content, which you can continually use to build upon your learning.
Journalists are required to write in a standardised way. With the news there’s no slang or colloquialisms. You get the topics of the day, delivered straight, in language you can easily understand.
TV news is read in standard dialect. This is particularly important for beginners, who need to know they’re learning the correct form of the language.
Anchors and journalists tend to enunciate clearly, which is ideal for both beginners and intermediate students. Similarly, print news tends to be well-written, with appropriate and correct use of grammar.
The news enriches your mind culturally. As you learn the language, you’re also learning important details about the countries in which the language is spoken. From current affairs, to entertainment, economy and sport, your knowledge of this particular culture is only going to broaden.
As news is available via many resources, you can use it to strengthen your reading, listening and speaking skills. That’s a triple win.
The news is easily accessible. Thanks to the Internet, you can access the news from wherever you are, in whichever country of your choice. All it takes is a few clicks of your mouse and you have hours of language learning material at your disposal.
Keeping all this in mind, it’s pretty easy to see how anyone learning a language would benefit from incorporating the news into their study tools. Yet before we move on, there’s one more question that needs answering. How can you ensure that you’re using news to learn a language… and not falling into the black hole of passive learning?
The Wrong Way to Watch the News
You can’t expect to sit in front of your computer and find you’re fluent in German after watching one half-hour news broadcast, even if you did that every day for months or years. I mean, good luck to you, but I’d be pretty surprised if that actually worked! As with using movies for language learning, you can’t switch off when watching the news. You need to be alert, you need to be present and you must be in study mode. Let’s look at how to make sure you do that.
How to Use News as a Language Learning Tool (5 Steps)
1. Select a News Site that Works For Your Level
Your first task is to find a news source that matches your current learning level. For example, if you’re a beginner learning Mandarin Chinese, and you’re still learning the script, you won’t benefit from attempting to read a newspaper written entirely using Chinese characters. You’d be better off listening to a podcast or live-streaming a television news channel, ideally one suited to learners of the language. To take another example, tabloid newspapers tend to be written in simpler language than broadsheets. The resource you pick should also cater to the skills you wish to target. News is a predominantly helpful tool for those wanting to improve either their listening or reading skills (or both!). Decide which skill has higher priority and go from there. There are also news sites specifically designed for language learners. More on those in a moment.
2. Pay Attention
When you’re listening to the news, you can just sit there letting the words wash over you. This will help you get familiar with the sounds of the language. As there’s a nonstop supply of news, this is worth doing from time to time. However, you’ll learn faster (and find the stories you’re reading or listening to more interesting) if you focus on what’s being said. Sure, you might not understand everything, but you will be able to pick out words. The more you practise this, the better you’ll get.
3. Keep it Small and Simple
If you’re a beginner, don’t overwhelm yourself with a half-hour news programme. Instead, listen to the news in bite-sized pieces. Focus on one story at a time, making sure you fully understand every aspect of the story and any new vocabulary. Look up any words that are new to you, and if you want to add them to your vocabulary, create flashcards for those word. Only then should you move onto the next news story.
4. Don’t Beat Yourself Up - the News Can be Complex
If there are news stories you struggle to understand, give yourself a break. Move onto another story. The news can be complicated, and when you’re starting out it’s best to get easy wins.
5. Become a “News Lyrebird”
A Lyrebird is an Australian animal that is famous for being able to mimic the sounds of other birds. When you watch the news, I recommend you be a News Lyrebird. Mimic what the newscaster says. This will help the sounds of the language feel familiar in your mouth.

How Will You Use the News in Your Language Learning?
Remember to approach the news as you would any other language learning resource. It can be an exceptionally handy tool for study, as long as that is exactly what you do: take the time and effort to study these resources. Don’t lose heart and don’t give up. As your knowledge of the language grows, your ability to understand what is being said will develop with it. And you’ll become even more informed about this world we inhabit along the way. How do you use the news in your language learning? Let me know in the comments.

Best Chinese Language Learning Software 2020 (UPDATED)
https://www.chinesescholarshipcouncil.com/?p=49072&wpwautoposter=1592547943 Are you looking for Best Chinese Language Learning Software? you are at the right place. we will briefly discuss about Best Chinese Language Learning Software. Why learn Mandarin? China is a fast-growing economy, already the second largest in the world. Being able to speak Chinese can give you the upper edge in your career and open up wealth opportunities (both business and professional) now, and in the future. The Chinese Language Learning Software is broken up into many regional dialects, however, the official dialect that is taught in all schools is Mandarin. The second most spoken dialect is Cantonese. If you are interested in learning Chinese, Mandarin is your best bet, as it is the most spoken dialect in China. Challenges to learning Mandarin– Why software helps Mandarin can be difficult to learn, however in some aspects it is actually easier to learn than English. Let’s take a look at why this is: Why is Mandarin Difficult? Tones: Chinese languages are tonal (unlike Korean and Japanese). This means that the way you inflect the pitch of your voice can change the entire meaning of a word. This can be particularly troublesome for English speakers who are not adapted to hearing these tones. Fortunately, there are only 5 tones in Mandarin, and with practice, you can easily identify them. Writing: The Chinese language does not really have an alphabet like English, French, Spanish, etc. Instead, the Chinese language is written entirely using characters. This can be an issue since you cannot really sound out a word phonetically from simply looking at a Chinese character. Why is Mandarin Easy? Grammar: Chinese grammar is remarkably simple compared to that of English or French. There are very few rule exceptions and verbs and nouns require very little conjugation. Tenses in Chinese are very easy to implement as well. Whereas a Romance language such as Spanish or French (or even German), may be studied on your own from books, the radically different nature of Mandarin requires some extra attention. Pronunciation and tonal accuracy is very important, so you need something more than just a book. Best Chinese Language Learning Software represents a great solution to the difficulties that you can encounter when trying to learn Mandarin. But which software is the best for learning Mandarin? Chinese Reading Apps Du Chinese Du Chinese is a revolutionary app will help you to improve your Chinese reading skills. I am impressed by the clean design and user interface. It is easy to use and loading material takes only seconds. You can read by yourself or listen to an audio recording and read along. The characters and pinyin layout look very comfortable. You can easily turn the pinyin on and off and switch Chinese characters between Simplified and Traditional. It supports English translations for single words and sentences. All sentences have been carefully translated and they stay as true as possible to the original Mandarin. The reading material topics are quite interesting, covering daily conversations, Chinese culture, current events, the latest trends, funny stories, and regular life in China. They are marked by difficulty, ranging from newbie to master. Each session is also labelled from HSK level 1 ~ 6+. It is easy to find material for your level. Chinese Characters Apps Zizzle If you have trouble memorizing Chinese characters, then Zizzle will definitely help you. This app breaks down characters into their component parts. Then, they use images and a short story to help you remember these components. Most of the stories are ridiculous or funny enough to be memorable. I am in love with this app, and its method taught me characters that I have tried and failed to learn in the classroom. It presents an effective, novel, and fun way to learn and memorize Chinese characters. If you are total beginner, I can safely say you will know hundreds of characters in few days and be able to read them confidently. Use the promo code “DIGMANDARIN10” to save 10% on all three-month and annual subscriptions, as well as packs. Chinese Dictionary Apps Pleco The dictionary app will probably be one of the most useful and frequently used ones for people learning Mandarin; Pleco may be the app most frequently recommended for this function. It allows you to quickly look up a Chinese word or character wherever you are. Pleco Key features: Chinese handwriting recognition: the option to hand write instead of typing in pinyin is very useful when searching for characters you don’t know. OCR: it allows you to look up unknown Chinese words ‘live’ using your device’s camera, or tap-lookup words in a still image. Stroke order guides: to help you find out how to write the Chinese characters in the proper order. Flashcard system: insanely powerful/customizable system, making it extremely easy to add new flashcards from dictionary entries or to import pre-made vocabulary lists. Online Chinese Degree Chinese Listening Apps Chineseclass101 No doubt that Chineseclass101 is one of the most well-structured podcast Mandarin courses available today. I bet you also have your own picks. What would you recommend to fellow Chinese learners? What apps do you think are worth the time and the money? Just comment below and let us know your favorites. Best Chinese Language Learning Software 2020 (UPDATED)
https://www.chinesescholarshipcouncil.com/?p=49072&wpwautoposter=1587550173 Are you looking for Best Chinese Language Learning Software? you are at the right place. we will briefly discuss about Best Chinese Language Learning Software.
