I love Andrew Thomas Huang’s art so much! I don’t know how to describe it, I think what he does is so visionary. I feel like he’s unafraid to tap into the uncanny/false side of CGI, and kinda stretches it into something truly unique.

Like, the bug dragon thing that appears in the cellophane music video is very clearly CGI, and it sort of breaks the FANTASTIC atmosphere the video has going up to that point. But I think that immersion is broken in a very fun way, the dragon feels like something otherworldly within the MV, and in real life. The way it’s animated and rendered makes it seem TRULY alien.

And, and! I love the way the dragon glitches out when twigs tries to shove it away, the way it almost splinters apart, with some bits reaching back out towards her. It feels so etherial, but visceral at the same time.

And that’s not even touching on all the groundbreaking shit he did during the Vulnicura era w/ Bjork!

I don’t know how to describe it, I just really love his art so much.

Ancestors loom large over the playlist this week, as Björk bands with James Merry, Andrew Thomas Huang, her son Sindri, and the Siggi String Quartet for a ritual trek across an Icelandic valley by way of tribute to the idiosyncrasies and transmutations of her mother. Wiki and Subjxct 5 pay homage to hip hop's mixtape era, while Wau Wau Collectif highlight the voices of children as they dedicate Mariage to the memory of Ousmane Ba, their deftly rippling flautist. Keeping the fires burning in the name of spiritual jazz, Wojtek Mazolewski attends to spiritual needs while surveying the breadth of his surrounds, Makaya McCraven imbues organic beats with lush orchestration, and Photay and Carlos Niño flow with the current. Tracks by Charles Lloyd, Aleksandra Słyż, Vanessa Amara, Lori Goldston, and Rainy Miller also feature in the latest roundup of new music.

On September 5th, 2013, LEGS and Lexus brought the worlds of fashion, art and technology to a colliding halt at MADE Fashion Week. Holographic imagery, avant-garde dance and 3D projection mapping fuse and erupt in a stunning and magnetic immersive experience, starring Coco Rocha as the heroine. Directed by Radical Friend and inspired by Giles Deacon’s theatrical collection, the story tracks Rocha as she battles opposing forces on a path to independence from darkness to light, ultimately finding her own liberation.

With Andrew Thomas Huang and Radical Friend as creative directors, LEGS pulled together a stunning technical display, blurring the lines of reality and fiction. Featuring choreography by Ryan Heffington and original musical score by HEALTH, the 15 minute performance sent chills down the spines of its star-studded audience, in a fashion show to remember.
