Minor Horse Bulls Interlude
Ok SO: brought on by This Wonderful Art, by psrinkgles, which I saw while refreshing my tumbl-blog while writing Something Else, I am pulled inevitably, Inexorably, back into the eternal and utterly pointless discussion of “what should we call a minotaur, but it’s a horse?” I beg you, Dear Readers, not to consider these procrastination-ramblings Definitive u_u (also: this is EXCEEDINGLY AMATEUR etymology/wordsmithery so don’t take it terribly srsl)
SO so: “Minotaur” is generally agreed to mean what it appears to mean: “Minos(Minos)+taur(Bull)”; “the Bull of Minos” if you want to be a stickler, or just “Minos Bull” if you don’t mind whatever sort of adjective construction this is. There’s nothing in the name itself which points to the bipedal, anthropoid torsosity it’s come to identify despite Convention’s insistence u_u u_u
Hippos is the ancient greek word for “horse”.
So, following the modern English convention, we could just create “hippotaur” and call it a day. But that’s Boring(>:|), and also sounds like some kind of -Oh I Don’t Know!- colesterol-medication(>:| >:|).
Another way we could build it would be by combining A!Greek words for “horse”, “man”, and “human”.
Anthropos is a common A!Greek word for “man” and “humans”, and “andros” is a form of it often used in this manner; for instance “androsphigx” for a sphinx with a human torso. Other common words are “aner”(strong, vigorous), andromeos(human), brotos(mortal), phos(man) so:
andrippos(man-horse)
anthrippos(ditto)
anthrōoppos(ditto). Sometimes when making compounds involving repeated (o) sounds or (o) coming in contact with a soft (h), and often with andro- compounds, I’ve noticed A!Greek doubling the o and emphasizing  the first(I think??) like this. I have no idea about the grammatical underpinings of this, however, so idk if it’d actl work in this context, I just thought the preponderance of doubling letters was funny :| Also: it kinda sounds like a horse’s whinny :| :|
brotippos(mortal[ie human]-horse; with the added humor of implying normal horses aren’t entirely mortal :p)
hipphos(horse-man)
hippenor(horse-man). Im not sure of this construction tho as the “enor” form of “aner” seems to be used adverbally or as verbal adjectives? Like describing someone as “manly” or “man slaying” or “man fearing” or “man shaving” etc. So it’s possible this might more properly read “man horsing”, if that’s even possible in ancient greek which Of Course I dont know.
hippentaur: same as the above, but with “taur” thrown in there mostly for giggles/English sensibilities.
I like these but I think there’s more here. In Daimon we have a word in two parts: da-(to divide/provide) and -mon(being). that -mon may be useful.
hippomon/hippon(horse being?)
anthrippomon/anthrippon(man-horse being??)
hippenermon(ditto???)
These all sound like Digimon :| :| :|
.
..
...
I think I probably like “hipphos” best u_u u_u u_u
P.S. I’ve also seen “-etes, -istes” often used as an ending in greek words translated to distinguish types of ppl/men(e.g. akontistes for “javelin-man”), but I can’t find anything that looks like the root of this usage, and it’s possible it more accurately translates to “X-user”, so I’m not going to fiddle with it

I’m watching Mysteries at the Museum and I’m 100% sure a dress they’re using in a dramatization was originally meant to be a Lolita dress. Not a very good one though, if it’s what I think it is it was a Milanoo-esque copy of an andromeo dress.

Hi! Are there any indie or Taobao brands (Western or Asian) that sell old-school style pieces? I'm getting back into Lolita fashion after going on a break for a while, and have sold a lot of my clothes so I'm looking to buy more; however I'm not seeing many old-school pieces on Lacemarket or the Facebook sales.
The first one that comes to mind is AndRomeo. They don’t have a ton of stuff but what they do have is pretty old school. Souffle Song has a few pieces as well like this JSK and their Antique Doll line which isn’t available on their website anymore but Clobba has the JSKs.You can also try looking at Japanese second hand sites like Closet Child which often has oldschool brand pieces for pretty great prices.

There are numerous lines showing Juliet’s impatience. For example, in the first four lines of the soliloquy, Juliet issaying, “Night, hurry up and get here!” In lines 17, she urges night andRomeo to come, and inlines 20 and 21, she repeats this urging. In lines 28-31, she compares herself to “an impatient child” who has new clothes she is not allowed to wear until the festival begins. I am absolutely in love with this dress: global. rakuten. com/en/store/auc-andromeo/item/16-x/ EXCEPT for the bows on the front. Do you think the dress would be alright If I removed them? Thanks for the input!
I see what you're saying, the bows are a bit odd. I think it may be a little plain without them though but I can't say for sure. Maybe you could carefully remove them and see how it looks and then work from there. You could keep the bows and use them to make smaller bows as replacements, or maybe just put one smaller bow using that fabric at the top of the dress so you still have that color to tie in with the bows on the sleeves.
