just to clarify why do andy and carousel hate each other? and what does everyone else think of this?

essentially, their most basic character traits and strategies for dealing with life are reversed.

carousel's main trait and behavior is persistence/fighting/working hard, and going forward no matter what and despite any physical discomfort he may suffer. this comes at his own detriment when he injures his body by not allowing himself to rest therefore causing it to be more and more painful when he forces himself to walk forward. On the other hand Andy is the worlds laziest guy who will give up at the first sign of difficulty and he would rather escape any instance of discomfort by ignoring reality and staying stagnant within his room/mind. this harms him because he cannot face reality and is stuck in a cycle of weakening his own body by only resting and worsening his own pains through inactivity.

These are notes I wrote about Andy a few days ago! Entirely subject to change. 🌼

Content warning for substance use (both medical and otherwise)

Andylion "Andy" is a lion who is also a plant.

His room is lit and heated by a light fixture which is essentially an artificial sun at the top of his room. He doesn't know that the star lion is the one responsible for providing the feeling of warmth and the ability to 'photosynthesize' from it.

There is a river flowing through his room, nonsensically starting and ending at the solid walls of the room which cut it off abruptly, but this doesn't disrupt its flow.

The room is filled with various plants and fungi, mostly imaginary and nonsensical in nature. Many of them bare fruits which are also fantastical and bizarre. There are many palm trees and other typically tropical plants.

The fruits of the plants can be grown directly from Andy's imagination, and he can make a fruit that takes the shape or flavor of almost anything. He mostly uses this power to summon tasty fruits for himself to snack on all throughout the day, including fruits which taste like fruit, meat, bread, and cheese.

He also uses this ability to create fruits that are not necessarily fruits but rather objects, based on necessity and convenience for both himself and the rest of the circus. If there is an unexplained food item, piece of clothing, prop, vehicle, or any other object, as long as Andy is able to visualize it perfectly in 3 dimensions in his mind and will it into existence, it can come into existence through being grown within a fruit.

His favourites include growing pomegranates, grapes, and watermelons without any seeds to get in the way of their enjoyment. The objects which grow within the fruits of his room are real and tangible and may be removed from his room to be used as props in a later show. Andy has a strong sense of pride over the objects grown within his fruits and this often borders on possessive or selfish behavior. He feels the need to constantly remind the other circus members that he is the one who is "working the hardest of them all" because he grows circus costumes and props from his mind garden and so generously shares them with everyone else. The only objects Andy can physically summon while he is outside of his room are flowers, those other than flowers summoned while outside of his room are intangible visual illusions.

Andy spends most of his time in his room, only leaving when The Ringmaster summons him for a rehearsal or performance. Not just his room, Andy usually dwells even deeper within himself, in his own version of reality.

Andy's reality is altered because anything he is able to visualize he can summon into his room through the growth of his fruits, leading to a disconnect between what is possible and impossible, and real and unreal. Additionally, he partakes in mind altering substances both medically and recreationally. These come in the form of fruits that can be consumed in varying ways, some ingested, burned and inhaled, or applied to the skin. He is able to customize these through visualization and imagination. The effects he prefers to experience are bodily relaxation because he has generalized chronic pain, which is worsened by his bodily weakness, which itself is a result of his sedentary lifestyle. He is essentially stuck in a loop of tiredness, resting, and escapism. In addition to bodily relaxation, he enjoys altered brain states that make it easier to lose connection to one's body and get lost within dreams, imaginations, or hallucinations. This is both to escape the feelings of discomfort and tiredness present in his body, and also a form of escapism.

Andy's main challenge and struggle as a character is his refusal to do anything outside of his safe and comfortable room and imagination. He is stuck in a loop of tiredness and excuses and escapism which he stubbornly defends and hides in.

With that being said, he is one of the main circus performers and will perform without much complaint as long as the star lion keeps the stage lit and warm from above, and he can be under the influence of whatever fruit he wishes to consume on the given day (The Ringmaster begrudgingly agrees to this).

Andy's circus show consists mostly of illusion and magic trick type acts, summoned from his imagination, while also using his body to strike poses and bloom flowers from his mane and tail which float out into the audience. He sometimes performs collaborative acts alongside Bubbles or the Circus Lion. He rarely collaborates with Carousel on stage because he finds it bothersome. He enjoys the company and support of The Ringmaster.

Andy's growth as a character relies on his need to learn how to leave his room and his imaginary world, and to face reality even when it is painful and difficult. He only reaches this point through outside intervention and support from those who love him. He finds a lot of support and inspiration in the Circus Lion who he sees as his adoptive nephew.

most of the characters for this project started from personal experiences or preferences, starting out as sonas, but now they exist as characters. (except circus lion is still kinda a sona)

i believe carousel and the star lion were among the first i made? with carousel being based on my experiences with disability and chronic pain due to hEDS, and the star lion being based on the experience of coming close to losing consciousness due to POTS.

andylion is also a modified version of a character i made a while ago based on my love of the sun and consequential identification with plants, mixed with the 'dandelion' because it has lion in it and matches with my boyfriend's name (tigerlily).

the circus lion is also a representation of myself, i'd say it is the one that has changed the least and represents myself the most. it is based on frosted circus animal crackers, as i really enjoy them lol.

the ringmaster's design has changed a lot from their concept art, but eventually he became a combination of his concept art and a past design of my current fursona, maxwell. she also doesn't have any colored/finalized art yet.

bay/bubbles split off from a design for a sea lion clown sona, but i haven't drawn him in color yet either. i'm still conflicted on what colors and details to use for her clown costume hehe.

tom was added last, to be the main character, but he existed in my mind for a while. i would meditate and imagine a housecat in a circus world accompanied by either a lion clown or a zebra clown.

What an amazing past few days. I could have never imagined that in my life the universe could be so kind and magical to bring the three of us together. It feels like us meeting at the time we did was exactly what was supposed to happen. I’m so blessed to love and be loved by you two beautiful souls. I’ve never felt so understood and secure and comfortable to be myself. I love how much we are all growing, both together and on our own paths. I am so incredibly proud of the both of you for getting to where you are, and thank you so much for sharing yourselves with me.
