Alan Becker Purple Headcanon/analysis:
I feel like Purple would often see himself in his dreams because it’s a sign if self-reflection.
This would probably start happening a lot more when he agreed to work with Mango due to him most likely holding some guilt for what he did to the cg. He keeps getting them to trust him and deep down he probably WANTS it to stay that way.
He probably wants them to actually trust him.
He wants to be their friend.
What’s holding him back is the need of constant approval from an adult. Purple feels as though he needs to constantly just do what they say without question because that’s the way he gets praised for things.
And he wants to be praised and he wants to create this idea of being loved and being worthy enough and being wanted by an adult.
That’s until he gets betrayed by Mango and so many thoughts are in his head but he cannot just stay still. He has to be in survival mode right there and then.
So he runs away to find a place where he can confront these feelings without having to be worried about death or getting hurt.
This is where he talks about his past and how he compares Mango to his father and how deeply he wants to be able to prove himself to him to try and make himself be able to feel loved and wanted by a father figure.
There is where his self reflection happening that was long overdo.
He does what’s right and finally is able to have friends compared to just living for the sake of getting approval from people who end up living you in the dust. And it helps.
He’s able to stand up to Mango the way he probably wanted to stand up to his dad when he was little and he’s able to be able to call the colour gang his friends after so many troubles.

I can't believe I got invested in a bunch of stick figures. Anyway, go watch Alan Becker's stick figure animations.
You can already tell which ones are my favourite
