Serious question, and you don't have to answer if you don't want. I'm torn between finishing the last two years of my costume design degree, which I really like but am starting to question my drive for, or transferring to a new four year program for storyboarding/comics, which I do as a hobby and really enjoy. As someone who professionally does storyboards, I wanted to get your advice - is a storyboarding/comics degree worth transferring for, or should I stick with my guns until graduation?

I have a BFA in Graphic Design, so I have no idea how helpful or worthwhile a degree in Sequential Arts, Storyboards, or Animation would be. Sorry. 

Everything you see that I make that is not immediately related to Typography, Logo Design, or Layouts was self taught, barring a couple classes taken in my free time here and there. 

So this in itself may, or may not, be an answer to your question. 

Some of my friends who did major in animation and have a lot of different experiences/opinions related to it are Meatprism, Milo Neuman, and Charlotte Vevers. You might find their input more useful than mine.

Ultimately, what you’re asking is a very personal decision to make with a lot of different personal and practical factors to consider that I have little to no knowledge of. But you can at least know as you make your decision that improving your craft and potentially finding employment in a creative field is not at all reliant on having a degree in that same subject.

My very personal advice would be to finish the degree you’re already halfway finished with, to avoid taking on an bonus 2 years of student loan debt that you would absolutely accrue if you changed your major. And also to pick up a business minor, or at least a few business classes so that you can find a soul crushing office job that will support your continued education on your nights and weekends. 

You could also just change your major to whatever makes you excited to get up in the morning and go to class and makes you feel alive and fulfilled, and make some absolutely wonderful memories while (depending on the quality of your school’s program) make some massive improvement to your draftsmanship and understanding of content creation. 

It’s up to you.
