5. Annaliese’s Hello Kitty Shot

This was such a criminally underrated shot! Annaliese is total perfection in this photo. I just adore everything about her pose, from the amazing backbend all the way down to how she’s springing up on her tiptoes. She showcased the entire outfit like a true pro and her dreamy expression is lovely. I still don’t know how Annaliese landed in the bottom 3 for this.

Actually the top 4 all appeared in the bottom 2 within the first 4 weeks. Week 1, Will, Week 3, Adam and Lenox, Week 4, Keith.

It was a weird cycle…but I think it sort of fits with this season. I think it is one of the strongest casts as a whole, but the people at the end just didn’t feel as strong as other cycles, even if early outs like Ben, Ivy and Matthew were far better than early outs from other cycles.

I actually went through all cycles (as apparently I am very sad) sort of to see how other final 4′s compared in terms of overall bottom 2 performances. Most cycles had one or two early bottom 2 participant, but the rest either never being in the bottom 2 or middle/second half of the show, with a few cycles having the final 4 only starting to appear in the middle.

The note worthy cycles were 18 and 22 really. Cycle 18 had Alisha in the bottom 4 week 3, but I don’t really count that. After that she was in the bottom 2 week 7, 9 and 10, but none of the top 3 were in the bottom 2 until the final 3. Cycle 22 had Lacey appear in the bottom 2 week 12, then Nyle in week 13, but Mikey only was there on his elimination, and Mame kind of never was.

The only other cycle to even rival 21 for earliest were Cycle 10, with Dominique, Fatima and Whitney appearing in weeks 3, 4 and 5 respectively, but even that had Anya appearing in none to off set it. It really does just seem like Cycle 21 was an absolute oddity with all the final 4 performing weak so quickly.

Day 18 - Favorite Cycle 18 Contestants: Alisha White and Annaliese Dayes

My most favorite quitter. <3 Alisha’s journey on the show was a beautiful tragedy, the kind we hadn’t had on the show in a long time, and while I was sorry to see Alisha lose her spirit the way she did, I can’t say that it didn’t also make compelling television. Annaliese, on the other hand, was this shiny ray of light, whose spirit couldn’t be broken no matter how much Kelly Cutrone hated on her, and even though her journey on the show ended up at the third place, she ended up winning as even her worst critic had to admit that she had something going on. If not for these two I have no idea how I would have made it through the train wreck that was Cycle 18.

Annaliese was perfection this week! I’m still mad that she was in the bottom 3 for this photo, and she was even frustrated by how she got great feedback on set but a lukewarm response at panel (she talks about it in her video recaps on youtube which I HIGHLY recommend watching!) The pose is crazy amazing, it’s super controlled yet effortless/magical. It looks like she’s being abducted by Hello Kitty obsessed aliens. Her face is so ethereal and dreamy and youthful. I adore the position of her arms, the way she’s grabbing the hat, and the energy in her tiptoe stance. She’s doing an excellent job of selling the outfit and her body looks dynamite in the process. I wasn’t mad at Alisha for receiving the FCO this week, but I thought Annaliese was slightly more deserving. It’s her best shot yet and one of my personal favorites of the competition.

Side note: This is secretly one of my favorite shoots of the cycle (well not so secret anymore). The outfits were actually super amazing and I could see this concept  running as a spread in a Japanese high fashion magazine. I have a soft spot for Avant Garde style-photoshoots, I just wish the Cycle 18 girls executed a bit better as a group.

#5 – Annaliese’s Hello Kitty Shot

I am still in love with how perfect this shot is. The delicate balance is stunning, awe inspiring. Every detail is perfect. The tip, the grasp of the hat, the drop of the other arm. She has shown all aspects of the outfit: the sleeves, the hat, the bodice. This was proof Annaliese was growing as a model. She may not have been a contender at the start, but this was the part she proved she was a fighter.
