I think the point of the food sensitivity test is gauging a disgust response to potential food hazards (mold, insects, spoilage, etc.), and applying those hazards in different contexts, some of which are more certainly hazardous (mold on bread), some which are less hazardous (a friend taking a sip of your drink using your straw), and some of which are harmless (molds found in bleu cheese), to see if your reaction stays the same.

Like I said, I feel gross about mold in all contexts, no matter how harmless (cheese mold) or even beneficial (penicillin) it may be. However, I actually scored low for sensitivity to insect contamination, and rated myself as less disgusted for even more potentially harmful examples, bc while I know about hazards associated with insect contamination, I don't feel grossed out by it bc I grew up in an Unfortunate environment where insect contamination was common. I know that it is hazardous, and I take steps to prevent it, but I am less likely to throw out food for insect contaminant reasons.

1. Fuck up after fuck up after embarrassing fuck up, but after attempt #6 on project #2 I think I can finally say that I am getting better at crochet.

2. I always wear my hair up tight in a clip at work bc I don't want sticky little hands in my hair, but on friday there weren't any kids so I wore my hair down but ended up wishing I had bc every single person I made eye contact with commented on it. It was all complimentary (ohhh your hair looks so pretty I've never seen it down before etc. etc.) but I still wanted to blow the whole building up over it.

3. I've been playing the Link's Awakening switch remake and it's sooooo cute and fun. I played like 0.4% of it as a child and really liked it so it's been nice to see what the rest of the game is about lmao. It's the oldest Zelda game I've actually played, so seeing it remade all shiny and new is sweet.

4. I'm planning to go on my FIRST EVER VACATION IN MY LIFE and I'm SO EXCITED. It's just gonna be a weekend and change, and we're not going very far but I've never really gone anywhere just for the sake of going somewhere before, with the exception of some day trips. We're probably going somewhere in the Cincinnati/northern Kentucky area, and I can't wait...... I'm going to do something fun!!! And it's just for me (and Emily) and no one is telling us to do it, we are choosing to do it for ourselves!!!

A tornado drill during my fifteen minute break? Fuck you for real

I have been soft launching "circle time" in my classroom this week, after receiving conflicting info from all sources on whether or not I should even have a circle time. The whole process currently runs around 2 minutes (lower threshold for a circle time for this age) and I want to try to expand it to about 4 minutes (upper threshold). So far it's just:

1. Singing a song they all like to get them to come to me (a song where I sing each of their names and give them a hug, then we do a big group hug at the end. Appeals to 7/8ths of the class)

2. Sing a song about who is here today (again with names, their favorite songs are ones with their names in it)

3. Some kind of movement game (still no clue wtf I'm doing here but they are so willing to do anything I tell them to no matter how stupid and pointless so 👍🏻)

4. Any song. In the world. I let them pick. I will sing baby shark every day if it means the adults peering through my class window thing I'm half competent at my job for it.

I can get most kids to the carpet with 1, then one or two will wander off after their hug and go back to playing, which is fine, they're two and they can play if they want. With the remaining 5-6 kids, they stick around for part 2, then a couple leave. I do my movement game with my most faithful crew (3-4), and then, usually, all but one kid leave for the last song, and then that kid leaves after about 2 lines of the song. Altogether.... really good! For a first week's attempt at a circle time for an 18-36 month classroom.

1. I am sick and my throat hurts so bad and my voice is all scratchy and rough, and unfortunately I am obsessed with my new sexy sick voice and I keep talking just to hear myself talk and believe it or not, this makes it worse.

3. When I was a child, I thought the word "arithmetic" was pronounced "arth-uh-mat-ic." For some reason.

4. Today at work a little girl was screaming and crying bc she was scared of another child (for no reason I can discern), and she was trying to climb my leg screaming "DADDYYYYY DADDYYYYY" bc she doesn't know how to pronounce my name and "daddy" is basically a second-person pronoun to her, and the classroom assistant in the room with me at the time was like "why daddy and not mommy. is she. motherless." And I said "yeah, she has two dads" and she looked at me blankly for a minute before asking "how is that possible."

Today has been sooooooooo chill. The weather was finally nice enough to go outside so we took them on a walk, and then they were screaming and crying when we got in so we set out some dry cereal and juice for a snack and it was just. Blissfully quiet and calm.

Today was awful for 1000 reasons but a bright spot:

I have 3 bulletin boards in my classroom and 2 of them were not secured properly on the bottom, so I sent an email to the maintenance guy about it earlier this week. He came in today and fixed them while the kids were playing, and they ALL gathered around to watch him do it. He used a power drill and it was loud and horrible and they LOVED IT.

I have had 2 hard ciders that are like 5% abv and back in the day that was just enough to get a start on the evening, but today (6 years later according to my math up there) I am about to pass out on the couch. I got up to use the restroom and I stumbled. 2 drinks. Good lord.
