Sinanas is a rather mysterious prehistoric duck, known from fairly limited material found somewhere in Lunqu, Shandong Province, China - unfortunately, the original location is lost. It lived at some point in the middle Miocene, between 16 and 12 million years ago, in the Langhian to Serravallian ages. Since it’s only known from scraps, it’s difficult to really piece together anything about this duck - it could belong to any duck group.

Uncommon Wood Ducks are particularly ravenous exemplars of family Anseridae. At full strength, a flock of these carnivorous canards are capable of skeletonizing several metric humans in a matter of mere minutes. Fortunately for modern society these voracious killers tend towards solitary existence, thus reducing their ability to threaten human population centers.

I’ve watched this Snow Goose develop its adult plumage over the fall and winter, and it seems like he decided to not migrate up to the arctic and is sticking around hopefully through the summer
