Dragonflies are wonderful creatures. The first photo is of a dragonfly on an aloe plant on our front porch. It prompted me to do some research. Here’s something I learned about #dragonflies “The dragonfly’s marvellous ability to dart sideways, upwards, hover, and instantly change direction, is due to impressive design features. The creature has two sets of many-veined, long, rigid wings which beat alternately. (When one set is up, the other is down.) This gives it excellent #aerodynamic efficiency, and the independent operation of each wing provides precise flight control. The wings beat 1,600 or more times a minute. Their wings can propel the #insect at speeds estimated at 50 kilometres an hour (30 miles per hour) or more, sometimes for long distances. Dragonflies have been known to migrate more than 300 kilometres across water. Just as amazing as the dragonfly’s flying ability are its two large eyes. At The Ark Encounter yesterday and more than anything it just continues to remind me of God’s holiness and His compassion. Even though it was the most catastrophic event, God provided everything needed for the salvation of mankind. A visible reminder of the consequences of sin and the redemptive nature of God. can you prove being gay is not a sin please because there's an article on AnswersinGenesis that refutes pretty much every argument gay Christians use to say it's okay. I thought it might be okay but now I think it's probably not again.

Hi anon! I’m so sorry for the late reply.

The thing about the “well this says” “but this says” arguments when it comes to the affirmation of queer identities within Biblical contexts is that they’re inevitably going to fail you eventually because there contain no definitive answers, at least not the kind I think you might be looking for.

But I am going to say this: no matter what “refuting” conservative Christians might do of whether our identities are “valid” or not, the answers lie in the lives of queer Christians themselves. How many of us have prayed and prayed and prayed to God to take away our queer identities and just felt more and more lonely and isolated? How many of us finally felt at peace with God and ourselves after coming to terms with our identities, only for that peace to be disrupted by people who seek to tell us that we’re living in sin?

If you want proof of whether it’s okay to be gay or not, the biggest testament is always going to be that: queer Christians who felt that God was telling them to embrace their identities, who finally felt real peace when coming to terms with their identity after years of repression and shame.

So I don’t think I can quite “prove” that to you, Anon - it’s up to you to seek answers from God... though that can be scary because of what the world tells us about our identities, I’m sure that those answers will be good news indeed.

Remember: No good tree can produce bad fruit, likewise no bad tree can produce good fruit! The repression of our identities only creates bad fruit - shame, fear, unhappiness, brutality, hate - but the affirmation of them as God-given and holy creates good fruit, which the lives of countless queer Christians who have embraced their identities are a testament of.

Unfortunately, we’re never going to find some evidence one way or another on this topic that people aren’t going to argue about. I suggest you read this article from @queertheology, it starts of talking about what I expect you’re going through with going back and forth depending on what different articles you read. It goes on to talk about this idea that Jesus talks about how you can tell how true a theology is by “it’s fruits”. The fruits of unaffirming theology are the suicidal feelings that you’re feeling now, affirming theology has brought me new life. 

The Open Bible Podcast is a great resource for looking at the arguments typically made against queer people. They have more episodes to come, so they haven’t yet covered everything, but I hope that can offer some reassurance to you.

I could go through every argument for and against, and argue why it’s okay to be queer, but ultimately, it won’t get rid of that doubt in the back of your mind that it’s actually wrong. Becuase if that doubt wasn’t there, you wouldn’t have looked at that article from a site that also argues that evolution isn’t real and that seems to claim that the Bible is inerrant and literally true, despite the fact that the Bible contradicts itself on what happened many a time.

One approach that may help you is that the verses used against queer people typically talk about sex, and not about same gender attraction or loving queer relationships. I don’t personally believe that all queer people have to be celibate, but there are queer Christians that do (which is a perfectly valid choice to make for yourself, as long as you’re not trying to police what other queer people do). Separating that aspect of things, may help you accept your same gender attraction and your desire to be loved by someone of the same gender as you, without feeling like it’s inherently sinful and hopefully that will alleviate some of the suicidal feelings you have around those feelings. I know that this theology has been damaging to some Christians, and I don’t want to encourage you into harmful beliefs, but it may be a step to help you start to accept yourself and your feelings.

I will be praying for you, and I really hope that God speaks into your life and shows you that you are loved the queer person that God made you to be.
