Lovebrush Chronicles: Godheim Review

My very long, informal, and definitely biased review. This will contain minor spoilers for the Godheim arc only so take caution. This review is also only limited to the Godheim series so there will be no overall thoughts on the game itself. I followed Otome Kitten's format and I really hope it helps out any beginners to LBC.

ART:

I found the art very pretty and was extremely glad to see that they did not skip out on giving us CGs either! The sprites all looked good, but I personally have some issues with Lars' outfit (the orange did not look good on you sweetie 💀).

Not all CGs are drawn by the same artist however, which may be off putting for some. The total count number of proper CG's for each route (not including common route) boils down to around 4-5, so that also may be a pet peeve for some.

On another note, there are also mini CG's which appear as small boxes, whether you consider it as an actual CG is up to you. Personally, I enjoyed the roles they played towards aiding the narrative.

Unrelated note, I'm banging on the floor crying and wondering who the hell did Ayn's CGs (the one where he was cleaning his sword was my absolute favorite 😍) and why didn't they come back.

MUSIC:

If there's one aspect of the game that I shall praise to the ends of the earth, it's the music.

Colour me shocked when I listened to the intricate and deep soundtracks for the first time, they just took my breath away! There were many gorgeous orchestral scores that depicted the fantasy setting perfectly. Not to mention the battle ost's which had more effort put into them than necessary.

My personal favorite OST's would be the "River's End", and "Starry Sky", which plays the same tune as the OP song you hear when you log onto the game. It's honestly so iconic. 😭👌

I was absolutely flummoxed by the stacked japanese voice cast, which all included extremely famous seiyuus from the otome industry:

COMMON ROUTE:

To my delight, the pacing was done very well. Nothing was dragged out and the introduction to the overall plot of the game was well established minus a certain plot point which definitely could have benefited better by being introduced in the common route itself.

I didn't really expect it to turn out as dark as it did however. The common route + modern prologue took me around a total estimation of more than 4 hours but in reality the prologue itself shouldn't take that long at all.

ROUTE ORDER:

Once you've completed the common route, you are given the option to start either Ayn's or Alkaid's route. After you've completed both, Lars' route is unlocked. And once you've finished all three routes, Clarence's route unlocks as the grand finale.

This was my personal playthrough and I wouldn't have changed it if given the chance. I believe it had the best flow of story progression. Though that was mainly because I wouldn't have enjoyed Alkaid's route as much if I'd played Ayn's first:

AYN ALWYN:

Ayn is Lars's cousin, but you soon find out that there is not a hint of familial love between them. He shows up as a mysterious figure during the common route and portrays a conflicting character, making the heroine unsure of his standing. While he appears blunt and crude, he is a determined young man who's sworn vengeance, and with an unexpected love for sweets.

Ayn's route in my opinion had the best consistent pacing as well as romance. I did find the romance somewhat abrupt early in the story, but the strong chemistry between him and the heroine more than made up for it! 🥰 It was just so enjoyable to watch them banter with one another and watching them just click.

I enjoyed the storyline for this route a lot and I think it had something to do with the fact that Ayn's route provided a different perspective in comparison to the others. In this route, we learn more about the the political situation surrounding Godheim and the royal family.

I also loved Ayn as a character, and not unexpectedly became my oshi ❤️.I do think a lot of people will enjoy him as a love interest. His route also has a wee bit of spice 👀, so for y'all thirsty gamers be sure to savor it slowly, as it's the only bit of spice we're getting here lmao. I did find some of his actions, mostly in the bad ends, to be OOC, but I easily brushed it off seeing as how much I liked him.

ALKAID MCGRATH:

- Member of the Noventrate

- Good, sweet boi

- Tea

Devoted and caring, Alkaid is the mage assigned to guard the heroine during her stay in Godheim. He's always expressing his concern for the heroine and will do anything to help her, even if it means betraying his mission.

Alkaid is the character who the heroine interacts the most during the common route. His romance with the heroine was sweet, even if it did feel way over the top in it's initial stages when I first played it. But once I got to learn more about him, I realized that he truly just wanted the best for the heroine, romantic feelings aside. 🥺

The route was fine. But I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the direction (?) it took on halfway. Some parts of it felt irrational to me and didn't really feel like it had any real relevance to its own story.

On another note, Alkaid is such a dreamy man. 😩 I adore just how respectful of a man he is in general (women respect juice, bottoms up!), and it was so sweet how attentive he was in making sure the heroine was always out of harm's way. I guess you could say he was someone akin to a hero in fairytales.

LARS RORSCHACH:

- Emperor of Godheim

- Good at combing hair 🥰

- That chest doe 👀

Known as the "Tyrant Emperor" from the heroine's manga, he immediately sweeps her off her feet, claiming her as his bride the moment she first arrived at Godheim. While his initial impression was flirty and playful, he lives up to his name as a cold-blooded tyrant. For some aspects at least.

His route focused more on the Silver Knight, which was the main (and wrong) reason why I enjoyed his route so much! 😆 On that note, I think that the writers had a bone to pick with Lars. They just had to force him to share the spotlight with an intriguing side character lmfao. The route itself was paced and executed well for the majority, but the quality of the writing towards the end was slightly skewered.

But to be honest, I quite enjoyed Lars a lot as a character, rather than a love interest. It was interesting to see the conditions surrounding his birth as a tyrant and his motivations for his questionable actions.

That's not to say that the romance wasn't enjoyable. I actually quite liked the relationship between him and the heroine. I found some moments they shared together really sweet. I also adored the development of Lars' feelings, and you can see just how important the heroine's existence was to him at the end of the route.

Though I guess I would have found the romance more believable if the heroine articulated her feelings for Lars more. I found it difficult to see the romance from her side. In short, the romance wasn't it's strongest point.

Clarence Clayden:

- Godheim's Archmage

- Get the tissues

- I've never been the same since...

Clarence has somewhat poised himself as an antagonist, only giving leeway in Lars' route. Distant and cold, he is stubborn in wanting to use the heroine for his goal and is willing to sacrifice anything to achieve it.

This route was an emotional rollercoaster. It broke me down, dumped my heart 6ft underground, trampled on its grave, and then some. It left me broken for a whole week for real goodness gracious...😭

This route can probably considered the "True Route", seeing as how it tackles the problem straight on unlike in other routes. The pacing slows down a little bit for a few chapters, but once it picked itself back up, it picked up HARD.

Now let's get to the romance. Out of all routes, some may say it had the least sugary romance, and a part of me agrees. But do igaf? No! ❤️Clarence turned out to be such a longingly sweet character and despite all the harm and pain he's done, I have no qualms in forgiving him and wanting to love him with all my heart🥺, as does the heroine.

I honestly don't want to say too much as it may ruin the experience. I went into this route completely blind and boy was I glad. All I can say that this route was the most popular out of all the routes for good reason. Got me playing up to 2 am with no regrets.😆😭

CAEL ANSELM:

- The Silver Knight

- The bias wrecker

- The sus

- He ruined me...

He is known in Godheim as the Silver Knight as well as the leader of the Rebellion. Decisive and apathetic, the heroine is unable to affect him emotionally in any form.🤡

Cael does not have an actual route, but a personal story, labeled as Expedition from his POV which may serve as an epilogue to the Godheim series. In his story, any unanswered questions are explained here, as well as the many actions he took that did not make it on screen.

If this wasn't a review I'd spend one whole section brainrotting about him so be grateful I'm trying to keep this short. 😅 Cael is a surprisingly interesting character by nature and it was very liberating to finally get a glimpse of his true feelings and thoughts throughout the heroine's journey in Godheim.

I'm scared to say more in case it may ruin any surprises. In my opinion, I enjoyed his story a LOT! It definitely made me feel depressed and empty in its own way and it hurts my heart to see that he never got a route of his own for reasons I won't get into right now. Absolutely amazing and one of my favorite parts of the Godheim series!

TRUE EPILOGUE:

Once you've finished all routes, the game will give you the option to choose one "True Ending", wherein you choose one of the boys to have a happily ever after with and by your own accord.

"One can only paint a world in which they believe in." 🥰

Please note that you can only choose one boy at a time. Your choice will then give you a Pictura based on which boy you choose.

To change your "True Ending", buy the Diadem from the shop to change your choice. You will not receive a different Pictura however.

I think the best thing about these endings were the music.😆 Each soundtrack was unique to each character and drop dead gorgeous to listen to. 😩

HEROINE (LITTLE PAINTER):

Despite China's strange attempts at creating self-insert heroines by leaving them nameless, the Little Painter was far from a blank slate! She's extremely relatable when it comes to her reactions and actions. Often times I would react a certain way to something an LI said or did, only for her to do the same thing! 🤣 I guess that could also count as a self-insert personality.

But if there's one thing I admire her greatly for, it would be her drive and determination to save Godheim. Her journey was far from easy and I doubt I could ever stay sane the way she did. Tbh, I didn't like the fact that her sufferings were never truly addressed properly, or rather, professionally ig?

I also found her quick adaptation and flexibility to her new environment extremely impressive. That goes the same to the way she wielded her powers for the first time. And how she grew stronger to go head to toe with even Clarence in his own route! You👏 Go👏Get👏 Em👏 Girl!

That said, she's not perfect. Some people found her to pushy and annoying though I personally found it okay. I was really glad how she didn't force herself to tolerate any crap and got that anger out rightfully.😆 (Asmoran deserved it...)

Final Thoughts:

I have enjoyed my journey immensely! The whole premise and setting drew me in, and I was surprised with the impressive narration which absolutely pummeled me to the ground (mostly on Clarence's route and no I'm not shutting up abt that).

The localization was also really superb? Yes it had a few typos + mistakes here and there, but they really pulled out all the stops when it came to making the dialogue natural and relatable. Not to mention a few large words that even I don't understand. 😂

It's not without it's imperfections of course. There are definitely some issues with the writing. And if you're looking for heavy romance or even fluff, Godheim is not the place to go to. 😅

Playing the Godheim arc took me about a week-ish, considering I had to level up and such. It may be a tedious process for some, but for me, it was an iron gate which I violently shook every day, screaming for the next chapter.

All in all, it's definitely worth playing! You don't lose much anyway considering it's free, so just give it a try. You can always drop it if you don't like it. My rating for this game is also very much biased and should not be taken seriously:

it was raining a bunch right … and there was this lil nature reserve near my house . w a path you could walk up on a hill but also down by a river….. and it was raining sm that the whole thing was just FLOODED. you couldn’t see any of the rocks in the river…. or the grass you could walk on beside it…… so little ari decided to go down there anyway. for the sake of adventure. and i made it to the end of the path to a fence that you could jump over to get to The Normal Road Home .

BUT …. gasp ………. little ari came face to face w a bunch of cows . up on the hill. right by the fence. they were eating the grass and i was scared bc they were fucking HUGE mickey :((( i was shaking n shivering and trying to blend in w my surroundings……… carefully making my way towards the fence that they were kinda blocking.

BUT THEN …. another gasp….. suddenly i was face to face w this One cow/bull and it just stared at me. for a couple seconds. and then it ran right towards me and my childhood instincts kicked in …. so i like. ran down the hill and then back up so i could jump over the fence . and then i was ok :) but ever since that fateful day i’ve been scared of cows….. i can only admire them from afar 😔😔😔😔

Nnoitra Gilga

Pass. He's scary. I WILL say, though, I do think Nnoitra is a really well-written villain. He perfectly encapsulates what it means to be a Hollow, especially in his backstory with Nelliel and fight with Kenpachi. I do kind of hope Kubo brings him back for the Hell Arc like he did with Syazel.

LIGHT OF MY LIFE. FIRE OF MY LOINS. DO YOU KNOW HOW DOWN BAD I AM FOR THIS MAN? I literally started watching Bleach just for him. I was on a Naruto forum one day and somebody had a fanart of Grimmjow as their signature. I was like, "WHO is that fine man???" and the rest is history. I've loved him since like 2006 and he's the origins on my Junichi Suwabe fixation and one of my major villainfucker influences. Icon. Everything about him is so fucking cool, the god-tier design, the voice, the fights. Wow.

Zommari Leroux

Pass. His design is cool but then his fight with Byakuya immediately yeeted any cred he had out the window. Also he had barely enough screentime to leave any lasting impression. Szayel Aporro Granz

I can never spell this fucker's name. Anyway, Pass. Again, his character design isn't bad but the flamboyant evil nerd thing is off-putting to me. He kind of reminds me of one of those villain Pokemon team admins you fight midway through the game.

Aaroneiro Arrururie

Pass. The only time this man jar thing is hot is when he's wearing Kaein Shiba's face. And same with the Zommari issue, you never get a sense of who he is as a character because his screentime is so limited. (Another character's surname I had to google because I forgot it.) Also he lost to Rukia.

Since the Espada are so hilariously divisive (half look like greek gods and the other are straight-up abominations), I'll include the ex-Espada for fun.

Luppi Atenor Pass. I'm sure the extremely androgynous look is someone's thing, but personally I like my male characters a bit more rugged. Also his personality was kind of lame and his fight with the lieutenants was nothing to write home about. Nelliel Oderschwank

PASS. I could write a literal essay on how much I dislike her, but in the interest of brevity I'll say this - her design is fantastic but that's all she's got going for her. The bitch has two personalities and both of them suck, hyperactive toddler or condescending and holier-than-thou.

Dordonii Soccacio Pass. He's so forgettable I had to google what his last name is. I don't think his design is bad but I don't really remember him except Ichigo whooped his ass and then he got drooled on by Nel.

Smash! Goth chick solidarity ftw. It's a shame such an amazing design was given to a minor character because I love it, she's easily as pretty as Halibel but unfortunately since she had one fight and got stomped by Ishida I think the fandom forgets her. Also I like her name, it's that classic Kubo balance of being goofy but kinda cool.

Gantenbainne Mosqueda

Pass. It says something about how forgettable you are as a character when Kubo didn't even bring him back as a Mayuri zombie, instead Charlotte got revived just for being popular. (L for all Barragan's other fraccion.)

Week 4ish - 30 Days of Buddy Daddies

Welcome to the final round of my responses to the 30 Day's of Buddy Daddies tag! Thank you for all your support on these posts and @yuraamar for creating all these fun prompts. Let's do this one more time!

Day 22: Favorite Drawing from Miri's Diary

I love how this diary entry either suggests Miri woke up later in the night and got to properly celebrate Papa Rei's birthday or this is what she had planned (before she got too tired to wait for Rei).

While it might be more an expression of surprise, I also kinda love how Miri drew Rei with a big smile.

Day 23: Which Actor/Actress Would You Have Liked to Voice the Characters

In all honesty, I don't know.

Yes, I really enjoyed all the voice actors' performances and couldn't imagine anyone else voicing these characters. But also, Buddy Daddies was I think my 5th or 6th anime, so I have yet to really identify and/or follow any particular VAs to say I would have liked them to voice this character.

Just for a further Yuri on Ice reunion, maybe Junichi Suwabe as Kyuutaro(?), but again idk.

Day 24: Crossover

Not so much a crossover, but rather, something I hope exists in the Buddy Daddies universe is Animal Crossing. (There's Mario Kart/Morio Kart in the Buddy Daddies world, so I think it's possible) This just feels like a game the whole family would love and could somewhat play together.

I can totally see Miri loving to talk with the villagers, decorating her house, and catching bugs/fishes. Rei enjoys doing these things too, but I can also see him grind for hours just to make sure Miri has all the bells/supplies she needs when she plays to buy whatever she wants (perhaps this is how Rei spoils Miri?) or make any furniture she wants. I could even see Kazuki casually playing Animal Crossing. He may not be a gamer, but I think even he could learn the basics and not be too overwhelmed.

Just something about Miri, Rei, and Kazuki playing Animal Crossing together seems like a really cute idea.

Day 25: Things You Would Like to See in Future Projects

Something I would like to see in future projects is Kazuki, Rei, and Miri actually finding the place that became the Dining Nest. Did Kyu or someone else find the place for them, did they hunt for this place on their own, and when/why exactly did they choose to open a diner rather than like a shop or some other business? I'd also love to know if the first time they entered the space, if there was an immediate feeling of "this is our home" or did it take some time for them to adjust to the place and make it feel like truly their own space.

As many people have said before, I fully want a beach day story too. The art Lily recently posted of Rei and Miri finally bringing home a cat also makes me want to see this storyline further fleshed out. Gosh, there's probably a bunch of other things I would like to see, but honestly, I just want to see more peaks into Kazuki, Rei, and Miri's daily life as Miri grows up and as Kazuki and Rei fully(?) leave the organization behind them

Day 26: Playlist

I would like to start by apologizing for my music taste because it unfortunately (for you probably) means that this playlist is basically show tunes. Either way, hope you enjoy the songs and my very brief explanations.

Day 27: What Made You Watch the Anime

The first anime I really got into was Spy x Family. Because there were a lot of initial comparisons between the two series, that grabbed my attention. I thought to myself, well I quickly fell in love with Spy x Family, so why not give Buddy Daddies a try since it seems similar.

The two animes I had previously gotten into and watched in the fall (SxF and Chainsaw Man) finished their seasons right before Buddy Daddies began airing. This was another reason I watched since I no longer had a weekly anime/show to watch and to help me keep my sanity because of school.

Funnily enough, I really do think it was because Buddy Daddies kept coming up in the SxF tag here that I watched this anime. Like I legitimately do not remember watching the trailer for Buddy Daddies until way after I got into the series.

Day 28: What Would You Change About the Story

Maybe not change, but I really wished more of Kazuki's past with Yuzuko could have been explored or touched on.

For reasons made clear throughout the series, her death, as well as the death of their unborn child, clearly left an impact on Kazuki for a long time. The circumstances alone are tragic, but to have even a little more information about Yuzuko I feel could have made her death even more emotional and tough for the audience. We really only know Yuzuko as Kazuki's ex-wife, so I kinda have to agree with those who have discussed her death really just being a plot device.

Given Kazuki's sorta self-deprecating humor/behavior and past, he definitely seems like someone who does not view himself as highly as he should. And this behavior is likely not a new development after Yuzuko's death, but a habit he’s had for most of his life. So, to see him be open with Yuzuko would be really sweet because she seems to love him as he is and not what he could be. Also, just to see Kazuki be open/vulnerable for the first time in his life, which we see happen again with Rei and Miri, would add to the parallels and give the audience more information about what make Kazuki feel safe.

Day 29: What Message Would You Leave to the Creators and All the Anime Staff?

This series was such a fun watch. I fully went into this show thinking it was a comedy, but loved the emotional and serious moments. The blending of the two tones was really well done and almost felt complementary. Like it's talked about in the show, light and dark walk together and coexist with each other.

Maybe it's just my nature, but I fully and easily fell in love with Rei, Kazuki, and Miri. The development each character went through, especially Rei, in 12 episodes was really incredible. With Rei and Kazuki, their growth felt earned and natural. I also appreciate how their growth is not linear. They learn and make mistakes and keep trying to figure out what it means to be their individual self and a papa.

And going off of that, the central idea of change and if people can change was just so well done. I feel that "can people change?" is a question many ask and you all did such a great job of illustrating yes, you can change, but again, it's not going to be over-night or easily earned.

If it's not been made clear yet, my love for this show is just so big and it’s really got a firm grip on my mind/thoughts. Like literally, this show was life altering since it caused me to develop another interest that I have just so much love for and am deeply obsessed with.

I hope you all return to this story in the future and add on to it. But if not, I appreciate all the work and love you put into these 12 episodes. Truly incredible stuff.

Day 30: Incorrect Quotes (Free Day)

I've been collecting a bunch of random "incorrect quotes" for a dnd campaign I'm currently in and had a bunch of fun pairing them with those characters. So, now just gonna bring a few of them over here to further create some Buddy Daddies madness.

Kyu, knocking on the door: Kazuki, open up. Kazuki: It all started when I was a kid. Kyu: That’s not what I- Rei: Let him finish!

Rei: Surgeons just stab people to life Kazuki: Please never become a surgeon...

Kazuki: Bold of me to constantly use the phrase 'no worries!' when I am, in fact, constantly full of many worries.

Kazuki: How did none of you hear what I just said?! Rei: I've been zoned out for the past two and a half hours. Miri: I got distracted halfway through. Kyu: Ignoring you was a conscious decision.

Kazuki: Why is Miri crying? Rei: She saw a leaf on the sidewalk and- Miri: IT LOOKED SO CRUNCHY! Kazuki: Please don’t say what I think you’re going say- Miri: AND WHEN I STEPPED ON IT THERE WAS NO CRUNCH! Kazuki: NO, NOT THAT!

Day 31: Episode I Wish I Could Rewatch Again for the First Time (2nd Free Day)

If I could rewatch any Buddy Daddies episode again for the first time, it would be the finale.

The first time I watched the episode was while I was working (yes, I was that impatient I couldn’t wait until after my shift ended), so I had to split my attention between doing my actual job and watching the episode. I would love to just sit and watch the episode again for the first time with my undivided attention. Not being at work would’ve also meant I could’ve fully lost my cool throughout the episode because there were several moments throughout that I was fully screaming in my head.

Not only that, but to just relive so many of the moments again. Rei and Kazuki driving up to the Suwa Manor like maniacs, bursting through the front door together, the kitchen scene?! And also seeing Miri be so indescribably happy to see her Papas wall into her concert. I’m not sure if I ever talked about it, but during my first watch through, I fully thought the episode was going to end with Miss Anna taking the family’s picture, which is followed by the title card. So my shock to see a grown up Miri was through the roof. I didn’t ever want to see how much of the episode was left because I just wanted to enjoy it. It made me so unbelievably happy that the epilogue kept going to show more glimpses into the lives of Miri, Rei, and Kazuki several years into the future. To watch the epilogue again, with that same feeling of oh my gosh there’s more?! would be amazing.

And that’s a wrap for me on the 30 31 Days of Buddy Daddies tag! I had so much fun and loved that this allowed me to continue to show my love for this anime. Can’t wait to see what’s hopefully next for this family, but like I said above, if we’ve already seen the end of their story, then I’m happy with that being so too.

I've been in a funk lately and it makes me feel better to remember that the fall anime season is coming up, SO:

Delicious in Dungeon is based on quite possibly the best manga I've ever read, an absolutely delightful fantasy dungeon-crawler that applies genuine worldbuilding logic to everything - magic systems, the existence of dungeons in general, how adventurers are revived, where they poop, and how they bathe - and also features a ton of amazing food porn only all the food is made from monsters. Studio Trigger is making the adaptation. Yasunori Mitsuda is doing the music. My only concern is that it's on Netflix, but Netflix has been releasing anime weekly of late, so prayer circle they keep that up...

Tearmoon Empire is based on one of my all-time favorite LNs. The protagonist is a spoiled, self-absorbed princess who goes to the guillotine after a revolution in her country... only to wake up at the age of 12 from a nightmare, in possession of a blood-stained diary detailing the famine and plague that led up to the revolution, and her own awful behavior that led to her unpopularity. She sets out to try to do everything different this time, but while she's had some character growth thanks to losing everything, suffering, and dying - "imparting a kindness as deep as the deepest of cake trays and as broad as the broadest of teacups," to quote the novel's English translation - she's still a twelve-year-old girl and a spoiled, self-centered princess. So she proceeds to Irresponsible Captain Tylor her way through trying to avert disaster, and it's a delight from start to finish. The novels got an excellent, witty localization, and I do worry a little that the narrator could be cut, or won't be as funny in a different medium, or that the adaptation will fall flat - but I'm still excited to see how they adapt it.

I know it's weird that Spy x Family is only my third most-anticipated show for this season, but that's how I feel! Like, it's going to be great, but these two anime are adaptations I've been WAITING for, there's anticipation, doubt and excitement. We know Spy x Family is solid.

Frieren - By all accounts this is an excellent manga with a ton of talent lined up for its adaptation. I haven't read much of the manga, just a chapter or two, but I'm looking forward to the anime.

My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned as an S-Rank Adventurer - A retired adventurer finds an abandoned baby, raises her as his daughter, and she follows in his footsteps as an adventurer. Everyone who hears this description immediately gets nervous, but source readers have confirmed: The usagi does not drop. The dad does not marry the daughter. They have a normal family relationship. The dad later finds an age-appropriate love interest who's not family. Also, the dad is a big muscular bearded man in his 40s who's voiced by Junichi Suwabe.

The Faraway Paladin - The first isekai on the list, this is the second season of a series that handled the "loser from our world reborn as a baby in a new world" premise with genuine creativity and heart, and managed to go an entire cour without any harem elements at ALL. The only traveling companion our title character picked up was a guy.

There's also the next season of Dr. Stone, the second season of "The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent" (isekai about an adult woman!) the Precure sequel following the cast of Yes! Precure 5 (and apparently Splash Star?) as adults, a couple of workplace comedies, a yuri otome game isekai, and I feel like I'm still overlooking one or two things.

Jigokuraku thoughts

So I finally finished the hell's paradise anime. mappa did a great job as always, especially the backgrounds and the opening are excellent, amazing colour choices and harmony. Animation aside, I wasn't that hyped bc I tried reading the manga before but I didn't like it all that much, I stopped some chapter not too far into it - I just can't seem to connect with any of the characters, most seem too (?) shallow (not sure if that's the right word) for me, also characters like yuzuriha kinda test me, male gaze laid on too thick.

The thing that rubbed me the wrong way most was that they chose junichi suwabe for the male va, wtf no why would you, Ik many people love his voice but still. the fem va is much more fitting, but what I actually wanna say is why didn't they just use 1 va. Yuu Kobayashi would have been so deserving of that role oh my goddd. Pobably most pleasant sounding gender-neutral voice you'll ever hear. She does female, male & nonbinary characters I mean if that doesn't qualify you for that role then idk.

Natsumi Fujiwara (Kabane)

Tōru Mutsuki - Tokyo Ghoul:re: Psycho Bitch? Obsessed with main char Kaneki, like obsessed obsessed. The unhealthy kind. In a squad under his command together with Kuki Urie.

Damian Desmond - Spy x Family: Little brat, rich, influential daddy. Has daddy and mommy issues. Wants his parent’s acknowledgment. Actually a nice kid if pushed. Can’t sleep without his favorite plushie.

Since Fujiwara voices Tōru Mutsuki, a main character starting from Tokyo Ghoul:re she worked closely with Natsuki Hanae (Shiki) who voices the main protagonist Kaneki. Tōru admires and obsesses over Kaneki and tries to kill his gf. She also has a thing for knifes and apparently knife play which does not fare well with her obsessive love towards Kaneki. The friendship their characters have in KemoJi is much better. There are no significant similarities between Kabane and those characters.

Junichi Suwabe (Inugami)

Fred/Freed Justine - Fairy Tail: Part of a trio that runs after a big guy. Very passionate about that fact. Masculine enough to rock the shit out of short beach wear. Uses runes and their scripture to fight. Gets hammered by a bartender maid at one point.

Shōta Aizawa - Boku no Hero Academia: A teacher but actually the Dad of 20 teens. Always tired, overworked, and unshaven. Carries a sleeping bag around. Adopts another child. Great resolve due to sad events in the past.

Yami Sukehiro - Black Clover: Captain of a squad of mages. Recruits people others see as losers. Uses his squad mates to do labour in and around the base. Scolds squad mates for breaking the base but breaks most of it himself. A smoker and an alcoholic. A nice lady is in love with him but he doesn’t get it. Spends like 50% of the series crapping and having his squad bring him more toilet paper.

Kyogai - Kimetsu no Yaiba: Some demon and a writer. No one liked his works and bullied him for it. He snapped. Not enough and ultimately worthless for the main baddie to entertain any longer so he gets dropped and tries his best to impress again.

Ryōmen Sukuna - Jujutsu Kaisen: A bad person. So bad indeed, he became an even badder curse after his human death. Wants to kill, maim, and rape. He does the former two. Gets reincarnated in the body of a literal ray of sunshine who can suppress him. Forces the kid to make sketchy deals with him in exchange for his life. Has something in mind regarding the kid’s buddy. Overall a bad person.

Hector - Re:Zero: Depressed warlock. Powerful but depressed. So powerful, he made another guy wait for his master for like 400 years but he can’t meet her in the end.

Victor Nikiforov - Yuri!!! on Ice: Legend ice skater, ice skating coach, gay. Becomes the coach of another dude (the main char) who admires him. He also becomes his fiancé. Charismatic but kind of an airhead. Does other things on ice (gay things).

His characters seem to have a trend of being dudes with an unfriendly demeanor who actually have a heart made of pure gold or they are completely done already and just all of their negative traits with clearly lots of trouble to them. In Black Clover Junichi Suwabe, Daisuke One (Mihai) and Natsuki Hanae (Shiki) all voice a powerful Magic Squad Captain and between the former two is a rivalry of years. His squad member Luck is voiced by Ayumu Murase (Akira) who works for him and the squad he leads. In the same anime, Hiro Shimono (Nobimaru) voices the second in command of the squad, Nacht Faust, but he dislikes Suwabe’s character Yami. Suwabe and Ono also voice characters in Black Butler which I left out, but apparently, they stab each other. Aizawa comes closest to Inugami. Unshaven and adopts kids.

Natsuki Hanae (Shiki)

Hikari Sakishima - Nagi no Asukara: Precious bean. Jealous of some other guy but overall a precious bean. Is in love with a girl. Doesn’t, at first, like his sister’s husband. His step nice is into him tho. Lives underwater with his family and friends but goes to school on land. Can be angered quickly.

Kosei Arima - Your Lie in April: Teen gifted with music but has a trauma related to that. Precious bean overall. His best friend’s gf is into him and only dates his buddy to be closer to him. Might overcome his trauma. There is more incoming though.

Ken Kaneki - Tokyo Ghoul: Precious bean (at first). Life gets flipped upside down and he tries to get a hold on it and learn to live with the “changes”. Freaks out at some point. Live turns upside down again. Guy doesn’t get a single break. One of the few characters in non-ecchi or non-hentai Anime to get a sex scene. Overall precious bean though.

Rill Boismortier - Black Clover: Squad captain obsessed with art and creating the perfect drawing. Powerful, but mostly busy with painting and defeating enemies as a side-effect. Got beaten up by a lady and fell in love with her.

Tanjiro Kamado - Kimetsu no Yaiba: Precious bean, loves his family and friends. Patience of a saint. Does everything to cure his little sister who turned into a demon, even things that could get him killed. Hunts the guy who killed his family but has a super gentle nature and pity with demons he kills. Overall he’s just boi.

Falco Grice - Attack on Titan: Precious bean and smol boi. Needs protection and doesn’t deserve anything bad. Has a puppy crush on a girl and goes great lengths to protect her. Is actually a chad and the only guy brave enough to confess.

Hajime Kokonoi - Tokyo Revengers: Obsessed with cash. Was into an older girl but she died, so he kissed her little brother instead, imagining it was her. The banker of several street gangs throughout the years.

Ryō Mizushima - Love All Play: Precious boi wants to play Badminton. Gets motivated by his complicated sister to do so in high school. Has a lot of friends in the team and plays his way to the top. (Hanae Natsuki’s pet cat voiced a cat in this anime.)

Most of these characters are known to be very gentle and good-hearted. They don’t ever try to harm if they can avoid it and only fight for to know others safe. Some of these character also share an airhead trait. Closest to Shiki would be Hikari Sakishima with a more abrasive nature but he’s a tsundere as well. All of them are precious beans tho, all of them! Together, Hanae and Hiro Shimono (Nobimaru) voice two protagonists from Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tanjiro and Zenitsu. They are great friends but Tanjiro is sometimes fed up with Zenitsu’s bullshit. That’s a nice parallel to Shiki and Nobimaru. They aren’t exactly friends but Shiki is pretty much always fed up with Nobimaru’s bull. They also voice two characters in Attack on Titan. Falco Grice and Shimono voices Connie Springer who, at one point, kidnaps Falco and tries to feed him to a titan to make said titan return to human form. Together with Kana Hanazawa (Inari), Hanae voices the protagonists of Nagi no Asukara, a romance anime, with a lot of romantic tension between their characters. That’s directly opposed to KemoJi where Shiki hates Inari’s guts and Inari… I don’t even think she knows Shiki exists… In the same anime, Kaito Ishikawa (Yui) voices another character that acts as a love rival to Hanae’s character. That’s actually not true and only a jealousy thing in Hikari’s mind. Outside of that “rivalry” the characters are good friends. There’s not much between Shiki and Yui, but I guess they’re friends? Overall a lot of interactions outside of KemoJi, phew.

Ayumu Murase

Atsushi Minegishi - Nagi no Asukara: Some super minor character but I’m still gonna mention it cuz I love the anime!

Shoyo Hinata - Haikyū: Hyperactive, tiny boy who wants to play volleyball. He’s alarmingly small and gets called a variety of names in honer of how small he is. Can jump. Ray of sunshine who annoys his team mate in the same year as him. Always has to go to the restroom before some big game where he meets future antagonist or important people.

Chigusa Fukasawa - Iroduku: The World in Colors: Rich kid and the youngest member of the photography and art club. Shit eating kid with shit eating grin always bickering the others. Has probably a crush on the girl he bickers the most with.

Luck Voltia - Black Clover: Mental guy obsessed with fighting. Can and will fight you. Constantly fights with another guy, shocks him and sets him on fire. Overall a little shit. Went to a mixer twice but he just wanted to fight so the girls didn’t really warm up to him.

Venti - Genshin Impact: Not really an anime but the character is super famous so I guessed I could mention him.

Kenjiro Minami - Yuri!!! on Ice: Innocent kid, younger than he looks, always excited and bubbly. Also a figure skater. Very energetic but can get nervous quickly. Overall precious. A little fanboi.

All in all, a parade of very joyous and outgoing characters with too much energy! Very much like Akira. Next to the connection with Junichi Suwabe in Black Clover, Murase also voices Hinata from Haikyū. His best friend and teammate Tobio Kageyama is coincidentally voiced by Kaito Ishikawa who lends his voice to Akira’s twin Yui!

Kaito Ishikawa (Yui)

Tsumugu Kihara - Nagi no Asukara: The perceived love rival of Hikari Sakishima. Saves a girl from dehydration but doesn’t love her. Pretty stoic and a man (teen) of few words. Later studies marine biology (he wants to do that in more than just one way but you need to watch the anime to understand that). His family lives from fishing.

Tobio Kageyama - Haikyū: Another rather stoic person. Arrogant and closed off at first. His team mates hate him. Thinks he’s the best player and blames his team for everything going wrong. Falls in his face with that attitude and changes.

Tenya Iida - Boku no Hero Academia: Strict but reliable class rep. Also a reliable friend. Often torn between his class rep duty and following the rules himself. Robotic movements and air chopping. Dislikes half-assed people who want to be heroes. Idolizes his older brother. A good, solid guy who worries about others and wants to help.

Kuki Urie - Tokyo Ghoul:re: Stoic dude, man of few words. He likes his friends though even if he pretends he doesn’t. Works in a squad under Kaneki’s lead together with Tōru Mutsuki.

Langris Vaude - Black Clover: Snob royal with too much pride in his abilities. Was made heir of his family’s possessions and name because his older bro is disappointing. Tried to kill his bro once. Second in command of the squad led by William Vangeance.

Overall the more stoic types that tend to come from more wealthy families. The stoicism can reach from being an asshole to just being overly serious but with a good heart. Together with Natsuki Hanae (Shiki) and Kana Hanazawa (Inari), he voices the protagonists of Nagi no Asukara. Hanae’s character perceives his char as someone who wants to steal his crush. In Tokyo Ghoul, Ishikawa’s character works under Hanae’s character together with Fujiwara’s character. And his connection to Ayumu Murase was already mentioned. Then there is the teacher student relationship between Aizawa and Iida in MHA. Many of the characters share Yui’s more closed attitude with his generally good natured self beyond the surface.

Daisuke Ono (Mihai)

Arthur Auguste Angel - Ao no Exorcist: Strongest dude in the exorcist order. Is actually a clone of a demon lord raised for scientific purposes. Has a speaking sword that his into him and that gets stronger if he feeds it with his long blonde hair. Solid guy who does his job but he’s kinda arrogant.

Erwin Smith - Attack on Titan: Eyebrows! For his goal he walks over hundreds of corpses and risks the lives of everyone including his own. Recruits a small dude into squad. Very brave guy who doesn’t fear injury. A big monkey threw stones at him.

Jotaro Kujo - Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Didn’t watch that one (I know shame on me) but it’s so famous, I gotta mention it.

William Vangeance - Black Clover: Squad captain of the most famous magic squad. Wears a mask to hide his disfigured face. Makes trees with magic. You could say he has a split personality but he gets rid of it. The citizens really like him but most of his squad members are snobs. He doesn’t like them being snobs though.

Pan Ko Paat - Fire Force: Reliable firefighter. When he blows into his whistle, he can give his buddies a heat resistance buff. Is a little obsessed with safety and so used to blowing in his whistle that he preferably communicates like that now.

Phillip Boreas Greyrat - Mushoku Tensei: Wealthy nobleman of an influential family. His father bangs furries that are also the servants of the house. Takes in a distant relative to teach his daughter maths and magic. He also kinda tries to pimp his daughter for said teacher…

So on the one hand we have a couple of characters with unshakable, noble values and on the other hand characters with more questionable morals to put it lightly. Mihai, if compared, is kind of a mix between those. He does questionable things but never to the point when they become too questionable. As mentioned before, Suwabe’s and Ono’s characters from Black Clover have a long lasting rivalry while in KemoJi they live in a house together and Mihai wears Inugami’s old pajamas. At least they don’t fight.

Hiro Shimono (Nobimaru)

Connie Springer - Attack on Titan: Kinda stupid but has a good heart. Loves his friends and family but loses his family rather suddenly. Doesn’t really get over it. People make fun of him cuz he’s small but he’s also competent after taking shit seriously. Has a best friend who loves potatoes. Tries to feed a kid to a titan in a moment of madness.

Naki - Tokyo Ghoul: Kind of an underling at first but later the boss of a certain group. Loyal to this group and its members. He’s also a little unhinged and later has like 9 children with an inbred dwarf.

Dabi - Boku no Hero Academia: Barbecued himself. Barbecues others as well. Daddy issues and practically insane because of them. Also has mommy issues but the daddy issues are so big, they overshadow everything. Tried to kill his little brother and endangered his other siblings. Does everything to spite his dad. Very sad past. Like super sad.

Zenitsu Agatsuma - Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yells at least 12 hours a day. Is desperate to find a woman who loves him and proposes the first chance he gets. Secret badass who is mostly only competent when he’s asleep. Didn’t want to be a Demon Slayer but he was kinda sold into the job. Is actually a great friend and companion. Wants to marry his best friend’s demon sister.

Nacht Faust - Black Clover: Second in command of a magic squad. Never shows up for work though. Dislikes the squad leader and the fact that he was made second in command by him. Conjures and subjugates devils cuz he can so he basically plays with fire.

There seems to be the trend of characters that have more or less unhinged traits ranging from little like Connie Springer to much… very much… like Dabi. Generally, the characters are troubled in different ways with some more comically but others in all seriousness. I pretty much mentioned all character connections with other seiyūs already and too much of Nobimaru is unknown to make enough comparisons, but he’s probably closest to Dabi. I quote, “Nobimaru and Dabi are especially funny because they’re both arsonists who hate a red head in power and love being mysterious.” (Copyright @sistervirtue)

Nadeko Sengoku - Monogatari Series: Didn’ watch that but seems important.

Shiemi Moriyama - Ao no Exorcist: Purest girl on earth. Gentle and caring. Didn’t know about the things coming with romance and couldn’t differentiate between friendship and romantic love. Got embarrassed by reading up on the topic in shojou manga. Very shy girl who spent her days gardening with her grandmother. She loves plants and makes herbal medicine for her friends.

Manaka Mukaido - Nagi no Asukara: Purest girl in the sea. Gentle and caring. Very shy girl but can be outgoing in the right environment. Is in love with one of her friends but to shy to confess. She entrusts herself to a friend tho. For a day, her knee was a fish.

Rize Kamishiro - Tokyo Ghoul: Psycho bitch. First thing she does is trying to eat the main char. Sato Matsuzaka - Happy Sugar Life: Psycho bitch and lolicon. Kidnaps a little girl and keeps her in her apartment. Kills a bunch of people that encounter her over the course of the anime and investigate the disappearance of the child. Psycho bitch.

Mitsuri Kanroji - Kimetsu no Yaiba: Precious airhead. Super strong fighter and she fights for love. The snake guy loves her and gives her socks that she constantly wears. One of the few hashiras to kick the shit out of a demon moon without much losses. Just boss.

Rika Orimoto - Jujutsu Kaisen: Little girl with a sad childhood. Her only friend was a sickly kid to which she got engaged at the age of 10. She hated everyone but him. Got run over by a car and died but returned as the most powerful curse in history. She kicks ass with her fiancé but is also jealous and protective of him. She once shoved four guys into a single locker when they tried to bully him. Overall boss.

So, there are either the super pure and nice characters with boss attributes now and then, or the psycho bitches with loads of messed up stuff in store. Like Rize Kamishiro, Inari has a fun time binge eating and both prefer humans as their meal of choice. Like Sato, Inari also kidnaps, brainwashes and grooms a little girl which is super disturbing. It is interesting to mention that the older brother of the kidnapped girl is voiced by Yumiri Hanamori, who voices Kon in KemoJi. Other connections have been mentioned already.

Asahi Kōbe - Happy Sugar Life: Sad kid who’s searching for his little sister who was kidnapped. Got beaten up for not keeping an eye on her. Looks for her with increasing desperation.

Ai Hayasaka - Kaguya-sama: Love is War: Didn’t watch that but it’s pretty popular so I guess it’s worth a mention.

Hinaki Ubuyashiki - Kimetsu no Yaiba: Creepy, pale faced and seemingly emotionless kid. One child out of a set of quintuplets. Doesn’t speak much. Her dad leads the Demon Slayer Corps.

All characters are very much unlike Kon and there are no more seiyū connections left for me to mention.

Note that this list is far from being complete. I just didn’t know all the other animes the seiyūs voice characters from and in the end I was too lazy to do research.

So, Oliver is the captain of the U20 team right (curse that person who helped him with the arm band cause they got a good feeling of his bicep- T.T )

and usually in animes, any kind of captain has that deep and mature voice cause they are the ones leading the team and it enhances the quality of leadership; so i imagine him to have that low raspy voice that hits just right (,,>﹏<,,)

My fav va for the job has to be Suwabe Junichi. I really loved his voice as Aomine daiki (that's probably the first time i heard it-), hayama Akira, Grimmjow, Sukuna Ryomen and he even managed to play the character of victor from yuuri on ice. He can adjust the tone just right and make it go from a high pitched voice to a low and controlled one.

But yeah, i feel like he can portray Aiku really well

I generally agree with a lot on what you say about misogyny so I wanted your thoughts on this… how do you feel about this popular trend where applying words like “whore” and “slut” to male characters is suddenly woke? I always get mad at it because I genuinely don’t see why people feel the need to “reclaim” a derogatory word about women?? Especially because regardless of gender sex is something so personal like?? But also I’m not sure if I’m overreacting.. it’s only fictional men after all

i fully agree with you and in fact i've often pointed out to my friends how annoying this is, on top of inappropriate/offensive. these words are insults directed toward women and sex workers, it's frankly rude to use them as jokes over fictional guys and i hate it. especially since for any male character to be called a slut/whore he only needs to act the slightest bit flirty or moe... this tells a lot about how people define these words. it's conservative and stupid. i guess slut is less ""inappropriate"" but seeing anime bishounen be called whores for giving smirks or being voiced by suwabe junichi annoys me to no end.

i've been called slut and whore before so i can understand wanting to vent that out but i really dislike the way that it's done in fandoms. it doesn't feel like "reclaiming" at all to me. and i'm not the real target of these slurs, which are meant especially to insult and dehumanize sex workers. it's not my place.

kind of the same feeling that i get over the "she pegs him" jokes about m/f ships and what it says of people's general conceptions of dominance via penetration + women's place during sex in general. i don't think most people who say these jokes realize what they're implying about their own conservative views.
