my friend got into t*ylor s*ift prior to like… everything rn and as a result in july she had me indulge in some songs she enjoyed in each album. anyway i’m not a fan/s*iftie for so many reasons but i think my song choices is def a reason considering almost every time i talk she goes ‘🤨’

*so I thought I'd provide some criteria for what consists as a single since there's promotional singles of course and songs that chart high on the hot 100 in it's opening week and then decline in the weeks after or drop out entirely especially in the era of streaming so here's my criteria:

Obviously if it's official singles they count lol

But for other songs that are promoted my criteria is that it has to be a promotional single for the album and chart within the top 30 of the hot 100 also if a song has a music video (promotional or not) then that can count also (why the Best Day is in this poll)

We're done! The final round of The Eras Bracket is over! We've seen the results, and the winner of The Eras Bracket is....

Cruel Summer!

Congrats to CRUEL SUMMER for winning the bracket!

I personally predicted Cruel Summer would win because I knew it had a lot of hype already from tour.. but it did surprise me. I fully thought ATW10 would take the win!

Anyway, thank you all so much for the support!!! I really appreciate everyone who followed this event, voted in polls, reblogged, liked, anything. You all have made running this so fun and I very much appreciate that.

I might do a rematch, or even do this bracket with other artists (on a separate blog)! But one thing is for sure. I am very well doing this next year. Yep, that's right! Sometime in February, if I'm still on Tumblr, I'll do a FULL rematch of all of Taylor's songs... and it'll definitely be interesting since by then there will be new vault tracks that'll enter!

But yeah.. that's it! If you have any ideas, suggestions, or just wanna say anything, let me know in the notes!

misunderstood a prompt for a poll and wrote a mini-diatribe about how much I don't like the opening song on the Lover album and while I stand by my points I am deeply ~whoopsed~ on my lack of reading comprehension (I'm trying to be less embarrassed of my mistakes/general existence these days so I don't want to classify this feeling as embarrassment because it's such a harmless mistake!!)

but yeah i stand by the fact that opening Lover with I Forgot That You Existed is one of the more baffling choices made with that album it really doesn't lead me down a path that two tracks later will lead to Lover?? Like thank god Cruel Summer is one of the best songs she's ever made because it is doing an outsized amount of work to get us out of the vibe hole created by IFTYE

Anyway, Reputation and Red remain my tied-for-the-top albums because I think they were the most heavily edited (as proven by just how many vault songs came with Red TV) and while I think most of what Taylor creates is super listenable above-average pop music, her albums are better with a stringent edit because the narrative cohesion is more powerful. Sometimes stories aren't just about what did happen, they're also about what didn't.

And Lover, in general, is just all over the place in terms of what tone it's attempting to strike and while it DOES make a ton of sense as a bridge from Rep to Folklore I think it's become clear in hindsight that she really was throwing a lot at the wall and seeing what stuck. Like Miss Americana is a weird documentary but it does reveal that understanding ones people-pleasing tendencies doesn't erase them overnight (and Reputation was unfairly reviled/overlooked by institutions but whatever was happening re: choices on Lover was more of a reflexive response to that).
