having vague thoughts about E3 and the current state of AAA game development in general..

like yeah direct promotions have had more of an impact than Big Events for me, and the main thing I'd want to see out of E3 are trailers for new games or the conversations that follow online - but a few points on that

I can just as easily look up “new games for [platform] [year]” on youtube

Something about the way AAA games are built these days makes me get bored of them ⅔ of the way through, if I even make it that far, on top of them charging more for less content and hiding away the rest behind multiple DLC packs

I've mostly been buying indies the past few years and have gotten a lot of fun out of them; they continue to deliver a nearly unrivaled experience of fun gameplay mechanics and interesting/emotional stories at a ridiculously low cost

I also have emulators for going back and playing old games I really liked so I'm not exactly desperate for new games

and idk!! weird to see E3 officially ending but I also think the landscape is very different these days including the game companies themselves. I'm not a game dev so I can't rly speak to what the change has looked like on their end over the past 10-20 yrs.

Return to Monkey Island: First Impressions

I'm very charmed and completely unequipped to give an objective judgment on how much of that is nostalgia. The puzzles have been very easy so far but NONE of them have been bullshit so that's a plus in my book! :)

The main point I want to express here is that the folks who put this together capture a genuine love for the original Secret of Monkey Island and what made the game so special - if this sounds at all interesting to you, please give the game a go.

Wow you guys really seemed to like the steampunk AU, that post got way more attention than I was expecting, so here's some more information and stuff:

-The world is still like a videogame that they got trapped in but now it’s a steampunk adventure-y type game with circus elements 

-The adventures are probably a bit different

-They’re probably more like, fantasy adventure video game style things with like puzzles and fighting? Idk I'm not a big gamer I've never actually played any steampunk video games. What are those like?

-Instead of circus tent, there is a big wagon thingy that I'll draw eventually

-there's still not much of a story and I'm not sure If there'll ever be

-I'd also kinda want to make some mini comics for this au but I suck at coming up with ideas :/

Pomni:  

-She likes to craft things

-friends with Gangle and Ragatha

-still very anxious but less anxious then normal Pomni?

-has a very logical mind and is good at puzzling things together but also doesn’t do well under pressure and typically panics in stressful moments where these skills might be useful

-She can play the flute because flutes are good, they are the best instrument. (I am totally not biased just because I play the flute in marching band)

-My headcanon for regular Pomni is that she’s less anxious than she initially is in the pilot after getting used to things, like, beyond the anxiety, her actual personality is very cheery and friendly, also very logical, because idk it just fits her somehow? So yea, that headcanon also applies to this au 

-but of course she is still an absolute nervous wreck because yes

-How else is she supposed to react in this situation

-also look at those fingerless gloves I want those

-the gears in her eyes turn when she is thinking

Gangle:

-Also likes crafting things

-friends with Pomni, Zooble, and Kinger

-My main headcannon for normal Ragatha is that her button eye is a parallel to an eye injury she had in real life before joining the circus, but in this AU she probably acquired the injury in this universe.

-she’s good at using tools and weapons but not in like, a mechanic sorta way like Zooble but in a defense sorta way

-like, she’s very kind and caring but also sorta tough and even though her body is good at falling apart, she knows how to use strategy to fight and um wait what would they even be fighting-

-idk I haven’t thought about that yet

movie night !! Its spy’s turn to pick the movie but nobody except heavy and soldier like it and scout starts to argue and eventually they end up with pyro picking the movie like always. (They just put on golden girls episodes’ or something)

Demo is secretly a painter,, more specifically an impasto painter. Pyro finds out and is amazed and asks him to help them learn how to paint. Demo lets them touch the paintings. (impasto paintings are meant to be touched ,,I mean how could you look at all the epic texture and just not. come on now)

Ohhh all of these headcanons are so good…. Especially love the scout + spy father son bonding activity. Aggressively chucks ball at his da’s crotch. Long winded rant of me talking about NSB, doing a new series, storytelling and whatever else I talked about under the cut, feel free to read it's just me rambling, I don't really care if ppl read it or not it's VERY long 😭

I've been painfully itching to start a new series, I know I'm doing NSB rn, and I do plan to at least finish the normal NSB legacy (up to Gen 9), although I might finish or take a break at around Gen 5 or 6, just because I don't wanna lose motivation and also because it takes A LOT to make some of these posts (for example, the last NSB post... took a lot out of me), and I'm only on Gen 2, almost Gen 3 rn, and I was originally planning to do all 30 or 40 Gens in the updated ver of NSB, which def doesn't seem like it'll be happening right now, because at the current rate at which I post, and how fast things in my game move, Sims 6 will be out before I even finish Gen 30 😭😭

Anyways, I don't know what the series would be about, if I were to do a new series, it would definitely be a lot more story based, if not completely story based, I don't know if I'd do/include gameplay, but I really wanna dive into more storytelling and setting up scenes, I'm not a film or theatre kid by any means, and I really don't know much about writing and setting up scenes and stuff, to be honest, i don't even know how I storytell, I guess it's just regurgitated content molded to shape the statue of my story if that makes sense lmao, I guess it's also the art of using so many fucking metaphors and similes that doing something like comparing love to drowning in a cold ocean comes sorta easy to me? I'm not grammatically inclined and don't know a lot about punctuation, my teachers all kinda gave up on me in English class, so all of my writing is basically self taught, which I guess is the case for a lot of things I do- I feel like starting a new series would help me learn how to write better, even though it seems like a lot of ppl love my writing, I still feel like I could improve so much and do so much better. I already have a couple ideas in mind for a new series, I don't think I'll say much rn just in case I decide to make them a series, but as for right now, I've got plans for Gen 3 NSB (aka Calico), and if I were to start a new series, I would not stop playing NSB, but due to how I function and shit, I would have to put NSB on hiatus, I kind of have a hard time doing two stories at once, hence why Sharkie's story got put on hiatus, because it was too stressful for me to double up, especially with how often I post (at least 3 or 4 times a week), I would like to go back and play Sharkies story and share her story up to this point where I last played her, her story is a lot more gameplay centered (for example, I am more inclined to make a blender scene for NSB, then Sharkie, for Sharkie, I'd do stuff like go to the bar and see how it plays out and take screenshots and just edit those) which I like more, but that's not to say I don't enjoy NSB, because I equally LOVE storytelling as I do gameplay.

While writing this, I did think of something I could do, which would be posting NSB every other week (so one week I do Sharkie or some other series and then the next week I do NSB, then a diff series, so on so forth), the only problem is that usually when I get an idea, and I finish that idea, I like to post it asap, I'm not good at scheduling posts lmao, but it might be worth it if people want to see another series (that is if anyone is still reading up to this point lol), I'd like to channel my storytelling into a more story based save/story, but idk! I'm just kinda doing my thing rn and I'm at a point where i wanna do something different. I especially wanna start doing more in blender, it just takes fucking forever to do some of the stuff I wanna do, and some of it means learning new stuff which is thrice as hard and takes thrice as long compared to normal posing and stuff 😭

Okay so, warning, this is gonna be super long cus I love your AUs and wanna understand them. They seem *very* complicated and I am *very* confused.

Okay first off, I saw that in 1000 Years Bound Sonic is dead young around like 40, but I see that he’s hundreds of years old all the time in posts tagged with the same AU? And Shadow was a king and Sonic was one too in both AUs? And for Tails, in both 1000 Years Bound and Happy Auau he seems to be a kitsune because he lives long and has four tails, but how old is he and at what year did he grow the two extra tails? Oh and, for the post where Sonic was like “yo ur like 500 years old why u still scared of thunder” how come Sonic is alive?? Did he only die in 1000 Years Bound (also does that mean he is also immortal?? If so, how?) or is Tails older than him? Where are the other characters? I see Silver in 1000 Years Bound, but where is he in Happy Auau and where is everyone else (i.e. Knuckles and Amy)? For the Happy Auau existence itself,, I notice it’s called “happy auau” and not just “happy au”. Is this because it in itself it is an AU of your AU, 1000 Years Bound? Is Shadow immortal in both AUs? Are both AUs the same universe but just take place at different timelines?? If so, I have SO many more questions that I don’t even know how to ask cus I’m so confused and things seem to contradict each other if they’re the same universe. What is the third eye on Shadow’s head? Was he born on the Ark and sent to Mobius with no memories and then gets them about him and Maria and stuff, or is he born into royalty? If he wasn’t born into it, I think it would be pretty funny that Shadow was like “uhhh I have a third eye and can kill you all and I’m your king now lol” but ik it’s most likely not that simple. I also saw a post where Sonic had a bond thingie or something (in idk what AU) with Shadow and had powers he used sometimes too, what’s up with that? For both AUs, are Sonic and Shadow’s history just like the games and is just set in the future, or different?

Honestly, I prolly have more questions that I just can’t think of rn, this is just a big braindump. I hope I’m not bothering you or seem like I’m hastily interrogating you or something, I’m just genuinely very confused. Please let me know if it’s okay to ask more questions in the future, haha. By the way, I think you are incredibly creative—you are one of my biggest art and story-making inspirations. You manage to invoke so much emotion in your work it’s,, wow. Kirby's Dreamland 2 world 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAA BABEYYY!! EAsily the fastest world of the bunch, ANd I reached over 70 drawings in this project!!!! yay!!! this project excites me very much. Now, just because we reached this end of the game doesn't mean the KDL2 set is over. You will see what's next. Since Dark Matter's still here, it must be dealt with.

I drew Dedede at another queer art event I went to!!! It is nice to get out and meet other ppl in the community :) even if I am very shy and everyone seems to at least somewhat know each other? Idk. I'm doing my best. it is a self-imposed challenge, just like these daily drawings. something fun and good for me that I still somehow struggle with!

Anyways, a lot of these were planned in advance cuz I went on a "short" (2 day) trip to see my great grandparents recently & I wanted to make sure I could get some drawing in then. I did! Plus, my great grandparents and other relatives really liked my artwork (I showed them the 2 'the end' '...?' drawings) so that was nice. I must confess it is difficult being trans and seeing older relatives. I love my great grandparents but I don't think they understand that I want to be a man--that I AM a man even. And cuz of that whenever they talk to other relatives I almost never see, those relatives r gonna be under the impression I'm a woman. Its frustratting..... im not mad just disappointed...

The moment I saw this ask in my notes, it immediately reminded me of the old sketch notebook that I left in the basement and didn't touched it for more than 2 years.

Well, certainly I do have hollow knight ocs and even non hollow knight ocs as well! But abandoned them and didn't drew them since because I forgot about them, and this ask is the reason why i suddenly remembered about them Hdhjdhd. Soo.... I got to thank you for that fella!

VERY VERY LONG RAMBLING FROM BELOW

Anyways, this is my first hollow knight oc I ever created and drew back in 2020, and...this is also one of my drawings before I stepped a foot in tumblr.

So....she was one of the vessels who escaped from pale king before he got to throw her into the abyss along with her other siblings who have fallen from below. She is a was clever, strong, and a cunning little vessel, which the pale king and his guards wanted to capture her and blah blah blah..she befriend a nosk, primal aspid and whatever. SHE IS LAME, and I really got so bored with her because she literally has no flaws in any kind of form, and the backstory is so lame as HELL. During that time, I really do not know that much about hollow knight lore and made so many errors that absolutely did not make sense with her backstory. I mean... made her a female, but in canon, vessels do not have any gender at all. (Psst... hey you can do whatever you want with your hk vessel ocs, its fine) (I will just give her 1 generous point because I think her mask is just unique, nothing else)

Also during that time, I really thought that the knight was a boy 😭... and I referred little ghost as a "HE" until I saw some hollow knight posts stating that little ghost and the other vessels had no gender in canon. So I was definitely clueless and didn't know that much about hk lore. This is also the drawing I made before i am a fan of nosk, until I later discovered nosk and immediately gotten interested.

I was definitely not an artist at that time and my art was horrible since Idk how to draw good before.....

And...not so long time ago.....

I created a nosk oc named Mirage. "Mirage" means illusion, which really somehow fits her deceiving nature. Well the reason why that this nosk oc exists was only because of @/flame-shadow's and @/fly-high-snug-games's nosk party event collab where you get to post your nosk oc and your oc gets to be with other nosk ocs. I really got very excited to collaborate because I AM...despite that I didn't have any nosk ocs to offer....BUT I DID. And.....here is the project :3..

So uhh....anyways, about her background and her story, well there is not that much that I could give to her backstory because I only designed her and created her just of the nosk party.. however THERE STILL IS. The thing you should know about Mirage is that she is a female nosk who wears belfly disguise, she is also a cannibal who enjoys to lure nosks and eats them. So basically she is just an imposter among the imposters WHICH IS QUITE FUNNY (for me "I think my humor is bad")

She is a very cunning and shady predator that no one could really never trust because she is very very evil and sadistic. Who enjoys playing with her victims before brutally slaughtering them. She also has a mate, which I didn't mention in the post intro i made for her. And her mate was dead...... well, because she ate him..... which is sad for the poor sucker

ALSO!! in addition, she carried her decreased mate's spawn after she mercilessly killed him and ate him. I don't really have that much in the story because I hadn't thought of a proper story of that. But she laid 4 eggs after a few days after she cannibalized the own father of the eggs, which are laid by her.

This is actually like the first oc that I would take interest in adding effort and the proper oc that was not too flawless and was not a goody-goody in character. The first oc that didn't turn to be boring and too flawless, which didn't make it insufferable to take back and look at it. (Unlike my vessel oc)

There is a slight chance that I might add and create a proper plot for her soon!! (I hope) since I am quite interested about her...

Plus, I love how i designed her, I basically got inspired by a spinosaurus and added a bit of Dino features, which I would give extra points to!!

And....I did have non hk ocs, which are just FUCKING GACHA OCS 😭😭......and they reminded me of some weird gacha main character stereotypes. BUT THAT WAS LONG TIME AGO and my gacha phase was over because gacha def not my thing anymore. The reason why I did use gacha before was because I didn't know how to draw at the time, but I wanted to make ocs, so HJDHDH

husbando still has to work today, so I've enlisted the help of my SIL to do another round of moving this morning/early afternoon, and then tomorrow, she and my brother will also come over for a few hours to help with getting most of our smaller stuff out of the old place

(then we'll probably order some lunch and fuck around bc the four of us are just ridiculous together tbh lmao <3 brother and husbando esp bc they just start riffing off each other and then we're just all on the floor in tears laughing so hard)

we're moving from a first-floor unit to a higher floor in the new place (which I'm actually stoked about, i much prefer being higher up), so we decided to hire movers for heavy furniture/appliances because fuck that noise. we did a 3rd-floor apartment move once NEVER AGAIN

i'm already so sore after just a few runs from yesterday though lmao my legs are gonna be so stiff after this weekend

anyway movers will be here early monday morning. we wanted to do it earlier, but they were all booked sat & sun so that is drawing it out a little bit. we're not gonna bring the cats over until we can sleep there (athena gets separation anxiety & i dont want her stressed in a new place without us around) so we'll bring them over Monday afternoon

but before that, on sunday we'll have sit around for two hours for internet to get setup at our new place, and idk what the fuck xfinity is doing. they make canceling their shit so goddamn difficult. it's not even like there's a chance they can retain us as customers, we literally can't use them in the new place

we've got until close to the end of the month at our old place to clean up, but i scheduled our utility shut-offs a little earlier, so next weekend will be the mega cleanup weekend

and then it'll just be the fun stuff! we're getting a lot of new furniture, and I'm so excited to have a living room again. our current one really morphed into husbando's office/man cave over the pandemic bc there was nowhere else for him to set up a WFH office, and i miss just having a couch to flop on with the kitties

i'm still not 100% sure what i'm gonna do with my new office space--i have one wall figured out, but the room is a little smaller than what i currently have, and i am losing some wall space so i'll have to figure out how to make 3 desks (one for art, one for gaming, and one for work) fit nicely in there. but it's a puzzle I'm excited to solve :D

and we have a good-sized balcony space i can't wait to furnish! that was one thing that was always lacking in our current space. plenty of space to expand my little urban garden and get some cozy seating out there

anyway, SIL will be here in just a few so no more rambling. I'm just a big ball of energy right now IM SO READY

I’m so glad you’re enjoying Twisted Wonderland! It’s so much fun and I kinda just started a month or so ago, so to answer a few things/to tell you a few things I wish I knew when I was just starting out (lol):

SSR cards are the highest rarity cards you can get.

Besides the prologue, so far in English there are 6 books that have been released (up to Idia). Malleus’s story has been partially released in Japanese and not at all in English yet. But there are plenty of events and the creator has said there will be more content even after this storyline.

The vignettes do not raise the power of a card, however they do add fun little stories you can read to learn more about a character and their interactions with others. And when you finish reading each part, you get gems. So, while vignettes are not required, they are a very fun addition. They also give you a sneak peek at what the card will look like once you groovify it (Groovifying it makes it stronger).

Don’t forget beyond leveling up your cards to also LEVEL UP YOUR SPELLS! That is so helpful and can be done when you view the cards individually (the button next to the mirror) and go to the “spell levels” tab. This makes even weak attacks stronger and some attacks get bonuses at higher levels!

The exams, the guest room/crafters gauntlet, and friendship boosts are important. Especially the friendship levels - so be sure to take the alchemy lessons with Crewel. Friendship popcorn is your friend as well.

And last but not least……… LEONA DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER IN HIS BOOK OMFG. The reason why we all say his story is the worst is not only because the end is so rushed and he just kinda comes off as a jerk, but like… he as the main focus of the overblot barely gets ANY screen time or focus. We’re focused more on Ruggie tbh. And it SUCKS. But the novelization is apparently SO much better in this regard. There was a tumblr post going into this and Leona’s post overblot speech and it just hits home SO HARD. And I really wish the game had done more for Leona because our lion man deserved better. 😭😭😭

Huge shout out to fanartists in general, but especially this one type. I'm talking about the type of fanartists with what feels like the passion of several fans combined, who draw so much art of their niche favorite characters. That sort of passion and devotion, as well as a desire to see more content of these characters, is something I've just got to respect.

I'm thinking of a couple different groups/artists with this post. First, there are my mutuals who draw Ame Orphan fanart, especially @succikko-nebulae . Seriously, you guys always draw good stuff, and not a lot of folks draw Nagato's real body (not the Paths of Pain) or Yahiko.

Secondly, and I can not remember this account's name for the life of me, there was this Japanese (IIRC) fan artist who drew a lot of fanart of Sheldon from Splatoon back when the first game was still new. Sheldon isn't a very popular character in this game since he has a tendency to ramble on about stuff, but for some reason he was one of my favorite characters.

This fanartist was drawing like, a crazy amount of this character. I just had to respect it, and I visited the blog often. Sadly, I didn't have a tumblr account at the time, and I stopped looking at Splatoon stuff for a long while, so I forgot the name of the artist and IDK if they are still out there.

Anyways, point is, shout out to devoted fan artists for niche characters. Gotta be one of my favorite genders, as the meme goes.
