I think the movie that has impacted me the most was Don't Look Up and I think everyone should watch it but not if they have problems with existential dread

What type of changes would you have liked to see in the 2012 Lorax movie in order to improve the overall experience? In other words, how do you think the movie could've been made better?
ooooOOOOH buddy. I have been fucking thinking about this shit for 6 years so lets go
okay so im going to start with thneedville itself. i dont mind that its there because it serves as a good frame and gives some world building. however, i hate how much screen time was given to thneedville and honestly i hate that it has its own plot? subplot? thing? honestly i would get rid of the whole ohare mess its just not necessary. like the entire last 30 or so minutes of the movie. literally gone. i almost always turn the movie off after ted gets the seed because the rest is just so........... Bad. i love ted and audrey dont get me wrong but the chase scene and just all of that wasnt needed at all.
ANYWAY i got a bit off track but basically from the town itself, i would have liked to see something more obviously dystopian. i remember listening to the thneedville demo and liking so much more due to the fact that it really drives the dystopian vibe a lot harder. to me, thneedville is kind of bright happy and fun. it is a dystopia and there are examples of it but it just seems like they went kind of soft on it. if i could change it completely however, honestly i coould see thneedville being written as a city that ended up being like detriot or an old mining town. it would make sense with thneedvilles economy (presumably) relying on the thneed factory when it started. (i see many of the citizens living in thneedville bc they work at the factory) though tbh that might have been too dark for a kids movie???
and of course, id get rid of that awful romantic sub plot... again, i LOVE ted and audrey but :/ i would have possibly liked to see audrey go to see the onceler, she already has an interest in trees and idk why she wouldnt get curious and go out. she knows what the trees look like so someone must have told her about them and the onceler. or maybe they could both go! who knows!!!! anything but that subplot.
now lets talk about our boy the onceler. Wow. i actually am fine w how his family was. they werent in there too much. however, after getting to the valley there was so much???? filler??? and i dont understand why since he and the lorax didnt have much screen time anyway. i know one of the biggest criticisms the movie gets is the fact that it dosnt follow the book at all but honestly that valid. if i were to change it i would have it fit the book a bit better. in the book he sells his thneed immediately (which was important imo) however, maybe for time, he sells only a few at first and he promises to harvest the tufts, as he sells more it becomes a hassle to harvest on his own, which is when he calls his family to come. all while this is happening the sky gets darker the trees look duller the animal seem uneasy and weary around onceler. as he gets more he expands his little cottage, his family suggest cutting down trees. he agrees without hesitation because he also believes it would just be easier to cut down the trees and at this point he dosnt believe the lorax or the animals will be a problem for him.
in the original book i noticed that throughout the colors of the trees and the sky darken and dull gradually, and you almost dont notice it until everything looks gloomy and dark. the movie. def does not do this. mostly bc it puts him ENTIRE biggering phase in ONE SONG. i love hbcib. its so iconic and its good. but god!!!! it just compresses some of the most important parts of the book in one sequence. it would have been much more interesting to see him descending into this rather than the sudden jarring change. and honestly with the plot i described they could still have hbcib. like it dosnt have to be a timeskip whatever thing. LOOK I JUST WANNA SEE ONCELERS BIGGERING PHASE I WANNA SEE HIM ACTUALLY BE BAD. I WANNA SEE IT.
anyway the end is the same i guess, i did like the animals leaving at separate times and ofc in the 1972 movie i liked how he started to be sympathetic but then “oh hey guess what onceler!! were making money!!” and hes just like haha okay well fuck this fish shit i gotta buy an island. rowdy dow. but, im thinking of this as a mix of the canon plot w the actual book soooo..
i think thats about it... i had some peach schnapps and i was thinking about this all day at work. thank you so much for this ask and thanks for coming to my ted talk.
