Tumblr media
nìfnu [nɪ.ˈfnu] adv. silently
Anonymous Request: Can I have a story where it’s Ao’nung x Metkayina Reader who’s deaf and a sweetheart. When the Sullys arrive she doesn’t really interact with them so when they see Ao’nung being kind and protective towards her it they feel confused? Just pure fluff.
Lo'ak leans over and nudges his older sister, Kiri, forcefully on the arm.
"Ouch!" she yelps. "What, Lo'ak?"
He points, and she follows the line from his finger. It leads her eyes to Ao'nung, just a few paces down the beach from them, and he's with a Metkayina girl that Kiri doesn't recognize. She's tall, nearly as tall as Ao'nung, with her long hair pulled back into one large, thick braid. She wears a thin, shiny net over her shoulders, and Kiri notes how pretty it is. It glimmers in the sun. Kiri also notes how, even though Ao'nung and this girl are above walker, they are using the hand-speak to communicate.
"That girl. Neteyam tried to talk to her earlier, but she ignored him. And there she is, being so nice to Ao'nung. Who's an asshole."
Kiri elbows her sibling. "To you, he is. He looks like he's being perfectly friendly to that girl. And, I mean, she's very pretty."
"Why are they using the hand speak? They're not in the water."
Kiri shrugs. "How should I know? Stop elbowing me when you want something, Lo'ak. It hurts."
He groans and rolls his eyes, and turns his attention back to Ao'nung and the girl who rejected Neteyam.
--
"How are they adjusting?" I sign to Ao'nung, who shrugs and rolls his eyes. It's no secret that he resents having to teach the newcomers their ways, but I think it's nice. Ao'nung needs to humble himself sometimes, be more like his kind little sister.
"They are slow," Ao'nung signs in return. "I don't want to teach them. It's a waste of my time."
I reach out, pushing on his arm a little. "They seem sweet to me, especially the little one. Try to have patience with them. I would offer to help, but they don't know how to talk to me."
"Yet," he replies, and I smile.
"Yet."
--
Neteyam asks Tsireya about the girl, Y/N, the next day. He's noticed that she only uses hand-speak as well, and wonders.
"She can't hear," Tsireya says. "She's only spoken that way her whole life."
Neteyam could smack himself. He'd taken her silence as harsh rejection, when really, she just wasn't able to respond to him.
"Oh!" he exclaims. "She's, uh, really beautiful."
Tsireya laughs and smiles. "She is, but I wouldn't trouble yourself. Ao'nung has been in love with her for years." She throws a glance to her brother over her shoulder, but he's too busy making fun of Lo'ak to hear.
"Ao'nung?" Neteyam replies hardly, and Tsireya laughs even harder.
"I know. He has a soft spot for her, and her for him. If you want to compete, you'll have to learn hand-speak."
Neteyam shakes his head. She's beautiful, but not worth getting in a fight with the chief's son over. He'll just have to admire her from afar.
--
Though I can't speak, I am very proficient in reading lips. This helps me observe conversations from far away; as long as I have a clear view of someone's face, I can usually figure out what they're saying.
"Ao'nung has been in love with her for years."
That's what Tsireya said, and though she was smiling, it didn't seem as if she was joking. I dropped the plate of fruit I was carrying when she said it.
Is it true? Has Ao'nung been in love with me, and I haven't noticed?
Fruit is scattered all around my feet, and I bend over to begin gathering it again, every interaction I've had with Ao'nung recently playing over in my mind. If Tsireya is right, maybe I have been blind.
Ao'nung has always been kind, and patient and gentle with me. I knew he wasn't like that with many people, but I thought it was most likely out of pity for my condition - not out of love of affection.
A hand reaches out, picking up fruit and dropping it into my basket, and I look up to see Ao'nung himself.
Feeling flustered, I stand up, kicking the fruit basket once again, undoing all my work.
"Are you okay?" Ao'nung signs. I tuck my hair behind my ears, feeling a little speechless. "Y/N, what's wrong?"
"Tsireya," I sign, "she told the new boy, the oldest one, that you are in love with me. Is she just teasing him, because he thinks I'm pretty?"
"He said he thinks you're pretty?" Ao'nung signs back, quickly and furiously, glancing over his shoulder at where his sister still sits with the newcomers.
I shove his shoulder. "Yes! Answer my question."
"Well... come with me." Ao'nung reaches out, grabbing my hand and therefore silencing me, and pulls me away from the beach. We move through many huts, past the fires, and to the edge of the beach, where the sparse forest and rocks begin. Here, we are alone.
"Ao'nung!" I exclaim, breathless. "What's going on?"
He rubs his forehead. "I had a plan, to tell you. It wasn't going to be like this. I'm going to kill Tsireya."
I stand, silent, waiting for him to finish. My heart is beating out of my chest, and my palms are shaking; I'm not sure I could speak, even if I wanted to.
"For a long time, I have loved you, Y/N. I have tried to be more... understanding, and gentle, the way you deserve. But it's hard for me. I wanted to be better, before I told you. Before I asked you to be my mate."
Unable to control myself, I gasp, and bring my hands up to my mouth.
Me, the mate to the next Olo'eyktan? It's unimaginable.
"Your parents approve the match?" I ask.
Ao'nung smiles at me softly. "Of course. When I told them how much I love you, they couldn't object. They believe you will make a wonderful Tsahik, because you are so kind and understanding. My mother will teach you everything you need to know - if you want."
That thought alone is a little overwhelming, since Ronal can be so intimidating, but I also imagine she can be a good teacher.
And really, that doesn't matter. What matters is the way I feel when I'm with Ao'nung; special, adored, loved, doted upon. I feel safe with Ao'nung. I feel seen and most importantly, heard.
"I would be proud to be your mate, Ao'nung. So proud. Of course, I love you."
The smile that spreads across his face transforms Ao'nung from the sullen, anxious, grouchy man most have come to know him as. It turns him into the carefree, light and happy man he is when the two of us are together.
I am proud to make him smile like that. I promise myself then, to make him smile like that every day, for the rest of our lives.

Tumblr media
Intro:
You and Ao’nung have been mated since the sully family sought uturu in your village. He likes to put on a brave face – a façade that he’s this big, bad bully, when really he’s softer than the flesh between your legs. His rut is more like a heat, similar to what you experience monthly - lasting for 3 days. You allow him to keep up his façade in public, being his little bitch that follows his every order. But behind closed doors, he’s yours to do whatever you want with.
----
“Y/n.” Ao’nung pants.
“Hmm?” You croak, trying to open your eyes.
All you can see is the luminescence of your own skin. Feeling around with your hand, you find that the space next to you in the bed is empty. You sit up and rub your eyes, hoping to figure out where your mate’s voice is coming from.
“Y/n.” He repeats, this time in a more frantic manner.
“What is it? you ask, worried that something is wrong with him. “Where are you?”
You squint your eyes, and scan the marui pod, looking for your mate. Two heavy lidded, purple eyes float in the corner of your room, watching you intently. They're dazed and full of lust. A sinking sensation plagues your stomach when you realize what’s happening.
Ao’nung’s rut came early.
You squint your eyes, trying to make out the figure in front of you. He's sitting in the corner, with his knees to his chest and his head in his hands.
“Sorry to wake you.” He grits his teeth. “I just... I can’t take it anymore.” He huffs, dropping his head between his knees.
You get out of bed and approach him slowly. “It’s alright, I know how intense your ruts are, my love.” You hum, kneeling to his level to stroke the length of his queue. “You should have woken me earlier.”
He’s trembling, shaking his head from side to side in his knees and panting heavily – he must have been enduring this all night long. Leaning into your touch, he rubs his face into your bosom, closing his eyes and inhaling your scent. You shush him, rubbing circles into his back.
“Shh. Shh, baby boy. You’ll be alright, I’m here now.” You reassure him, laying his legs flat on the floor as you mount him.
His legs are now between your knees as you tower over him, shortening the distance between your hot bodies.
“I want this.” Ao’nung whines, cupping the soft flesh between your legs. “...please.” He whimpers, looking up at you through the dip of your breasts, with inebriated, glowing eyes - begging for some relief.
“How could I ever say no to these eyes?” You whisper, moving his hands to your waist.
Using a single finger to lift his chin, you kiss him fervently, swirling your tongue around his. You shuffle even closer to him, lowering your pelvis onto his crotch – sticky from his own slick. He’s already rock-hard, writhing his pelvis into the softness between your thighs. You share each other’s hot breaths between wet kisses as your hands explore every inch of your bodies.
He’s whimpering quietly into your mouth, succumbing to the urges of his rut, trying to fuck you through your loincloth. His movements are impatient – full of desperation and desire for his mate. Unable to form a coherent thought, he allows his body to speak to you, begging to be inside of you. His hands slide down to your hips, gripping it tightly, using it as leverage to grind even harder against you.
You move your sloppy kisses down his face, planting bruise-like marks on his jawline and neck. You linger there, filling your lungs with his potent pheromones, intoxicating your body with his scent. His pheromones remind you of the salty ocean, mixed with the scent of the sap of a mangrove. You know that you wouldn’t be able to satiate him if you weren’t high, too – his rut is just too intense for that.
“Tsheylu, Ao’nung.” You mumble into his neck, moving your hand to the base of his queue.
His movements are eager, tugging at your queue to bring it closer to his. It sends small shocks down your spine as he makes the bond eagerly. In an instant, the heat and fogginess of his rut transfers to you, putting you in a trance, too. Your hips pick up speed, whining and grinding against his member whilst he kisses your shoulders.
“...please, y/n.” He lets out a lengthy mewl, squeezing his eyes shut. “...f-fuck me.”
His eyes fly open, glossy and glowing in the dim light. You witness his pupils morph into slits. He’s now at the height of it, and if you didn’t give it to him soon – he would just take it for himself. This part of his rut always frightened you a bit, he would go from begging on his knees to forcefully-taking-what’s-his in a split second. You slip the thin cloth covering your breasts over your head, and fiddle with the knot of your loincloth with trembling fingers.
“Hurry. I need you now.” He grunts urgently, untying his own loincloth in a hurry.
“I’m trying, I’m trying” you pant, struggling with the knot due to the darkness of the room.
In frustration, Ao’nung rips your loincloth down the middle and throws it aside. He’s fighting with himself, trying his hardest to be gentle with you, but he just wants to shove his knot inside of you already. He’s rubbing his veiny cock against your sticky cunt, getting off from the feeling of your clit rolling against his tip.
“Stretching. Do you need it?” he mumbles, as his fingers burrow their way between your hips, frantically searching for your hole.
“No.” You yank his hand out by his wrist.
“What I need is...” you line up his tip with your slippery hole, “...this huge cock.” You moan loudly in his ear as you slowly slide his entire length inside of you.
He lets loose a lengthy, guttural groan, finally getting the attention his cock has been begging for. He softens under your touch, burying his face into your chest, hiding his expression from you as he hums into your breasts. Gripping him by the neck, you push him away, and stare at his erotic expression.
“I like seeing your face when I ride, understood?” You purr.
Your taken aback when you realize why he hid his face. You can feel his cock throbbing in your cunt, already emptying it’s seed inside you. He’s gritting his teeth, trying to bite back his lewd noises as he rocks into you, ensuring that your womb gets every drop of his sticky cum. The pure bliss – the ecstasy that he’s feeling from the gummy, hot walls that clench around his cock is unbearable.
“Are you cumming? Already?" You ask quickly, trying to hold back your laugh.
"All from me putting it in? Fucking pathetic.” You spit, watching his face contort from overstimulation as you start moving your hips.
“Haah.. ah... Fuck.” He lets out choked pants, glaring at you through his slits. His cheeks redden even more, he's clearly embarrassed by his quick release. He buries his face back into your breasts.
“I’m sorry, you just feel so fucking good.” He huffs, pushing himself even deeper into you, ensuring his cum makes its way into your womb.
“Shit. Still going? Was that not enough for you?" You grab a fist full of hair at the back of his head and pull him from your chest, looking directly into his eyes.
"Fuck... trying to drill yourself into my womb like that.” You drop your gaze to your sticky pelvises.
“Such a pitiful sight...” You moan, looking back up into his drunk, pleading eyes. “Now, beg.” You whine your hips on him ever so slightly, massaging his cockhead with your cervix.
He clenches his jaw and swallows his spit. “Please.” He growls begrudgingly.
You start lifting your hips off him. “Oh? That didn’t sound very genuine. I see I am not needed anymore.”
“Wait. Fuck. P-please y/n.” he grabs your hips, pulling them back down onto his cock. “Please... I need you. I can’t live without you. Please, I can’t take this anymore.” He sobs, looking up at you with watery eyes.
A grin plasters your face as you start riding his cock, firmly gripping his throat for support.
“I love when you listen to me.” You grind onto his cock, already feeling a little bulge growing at the base of it. “Whoa... I can feel your knot already, Ao’nung.” You whisper, feeling your face heat up.
You glance at him to see that his eyes are closed – face contorted from how good your pussy feels around his cock. He really looks like he might cum inside of you again, all from just a few thrusts of your hips.
“Woman, you feel too good.” He groans, dipping his head back.
“I know. I know, baby boy.” You moan, feeling his tip poking against your sweet spot. “You feel good too... I can feel you heating up inside of me. Gonna cum for me again?” You chuckle under your breath.
Ao’nung’s body is taking control, thrusting his hips upwards as they chase the warmth of the slick that coats the walls of your cunt. He’s whimpering from the overstimulation – but he can’t stop rutting into you. His sweet, little moans are becoming louder in your ears as he buries his face into your shoulder. You can feel his cock jumping inside you, ready to burst and fill you to the brim with his seed.
“Talk to me, Ao’nung. What do you want?” you breathe, picking up speed.
“Haa.. ah. I want... Ngh – I want to get you pregnant...” he whines, looking back up into your eyes. “Please... bear my child, y/n...” his head slumps forward, back into your chest. “Please...” his pleads are muffled from the plump flesh of your breasts. “...I’ll do anything”
“Good boy.” You moan, chasing your own climax now.
“Ugh... it is coming, y/n. L-let me cum inside of you... Please.” he whines loudly, manhandling your hips.
Through the bond, you can feel the heat pooling in his chest as he wills himself not to cum until you give him permission. Not only that, but you can feel his enormous, veiny knot poking at your entrance, begging to rip you into two. Knowing that this is only the beginning of his 3-day-long rut, you want to start slow – so not to tire yourself out.
“No knotting yet, my love.” You pant, trying to lift your hips off him. He drives his fingernails into your hips and shoves you back down onto his knot. “Fuck. Control yourself, Ao’nung.” You whimper, feeling it stretch you out.
“Please...my love.” he begs.
He’s pushing his cock even deeper into you, trying to break through the walls that prevent his knot from popping inside of you. He’s completely consumed by his urges to turn you into a vessel to carry the heir to Olo’eyktan – to carry his son. You see his thoughts, as he imagines you heavily pregnant with his child. Soon, you feel this urge too, wanting to be his little breeding bitch.
“Oh, fuck it.” You huff, going over the edge from the mere image flashing through your head. “Fill me up, Ao’nung. Give me your fat knot.”
He rams his knot into you in one quick thrust, forcefully holding you down onto his pelvis as he cums deep inside you yet again. His tip is drilling through your cervix, directly into your womb – spurting thick ropes of his hot seed inside of you. It sends you over the edge, finally allowing yourself to release your own orgasm, pulsing around his cock as your walls milk him dry.
You slump into your mate, who’s finally feeling some sort of relief. You look down into his face as the room is becoming brighter from the suns emergence, and see that his heavy lids are finally closing – covering his dark blue eyes. He rocks into you every so often, putting you into a state of comatose, too. You’re both breathing heavily, trying to catch your breath and calm down from your high.
Only an hour passes until he’s tugging at your entrance, trying to pull his knot out of you – pinching himself and you in the process. This is what you didn’t want from the get-go, but it’s too late now and his rut has only just started. He’s nipping at your neck, tracing your jugular with his pointed fangs, silently asking to mark his mate. You too are deep in the thick of his pheromones, feeling woozy and jaded.
“Yes... do it, ma’ nung.” You hum, feeling the bite of his sharp teeth, piercing your skin as he marks you as his.
His urges take the forefront, as he thrusts in and out of you causing his partially deflated knot to pop in and out of you. This continues for the rest of the day, in the same position. You’re completely numb now, unsure of how many times he’s knotted you, as your abused hole is just dripping with his cum.
“Ao’nung...” you croak, trying to get off him for the fifth time. “I’m hungry... and thirsty.”
“Mmnn... come” he kisses you sloppily, spitting in your mouth as a poor attempt at quenching your thirst. “...better?” he moans, still deep in a trance.
“No... skxwang. I need real water.” you groan, pushing him off you and crawling away.
He pounces on you, knocking you on your stomach as he mounts you again. He slides himself inside of you and starts bucking his hips, desperate to breed you once more - despite the extreme overstimulation. Both of you were fucked out raw, but he couldn’t help it – he couldn’t stop himself. You lay there and take it, just grateful to finally be in a new position.
----
You open your eyes to see a bright room. The sun was out and shining vibrantly. The dead weight on top of you makes you winded, knocking all the air out of your lungs. You look behind you to see Ao’nung slumped over your shoulder, sleeping soundly. You groan from the soreness, reaching down to your pelvis to feel if he’s still inside of you.
The answer is simple – yes. He is. You feel a little more, to find that his knot has finally gone down enough to pull him out of you. You shove him off your back, and crawl towards the bucket of water in the corner of the pod – breaking tsaheylu.
Gulping loudly, you chug the water, quenching your extreme thirst at last. You pull away and finally take a deep breath, looking back at your mate. You're met with his delirious gaze. You sympathize with him, feeling awful that it took three full days of this to calm down.
“Oh, baby boy.” You mumble, shuffling back over to him with a cup of water. You stroke his hair – wet from sweat. “It’s over now.” You pull his limp body into your lap, supporting his head with your breast.
“Drink.” He laps up the water greedily, not realizing how thirsty he was until it wet his dry lips.
“Y/n. I love you. Only you truly see me.” He stares longingly at you, with his light blue, teary eyes.
“I love you, too ma’ nung.” You lean down to kiss his wet lips.
He pulls away from you, panting heavily. “No. I mean it. I will stay by your side for the rest of my life.”
You smile at him, feeling the warmth in your heart, and kiss him gently.
----
After cleaning, feeding and watering one another you both walk out of your marui pod to be met with the bewildered eyes of no one other than Lo’ak, Neteyam and Roxto. Ao’nung slips back into his usual self, walking towards the na’vi with an aggressive demeanor. You follow closely behind him, with your eyes locked onto your feet. It was obvious that you two were loud enough for them to hear you.
“What is wrong with you freaks?” Ao’nung spits, puffing out his chest.
Lo’ak laughs, mocking Ao’nung. “Oooh, y/n. ‘only you truly see me’.”
“Lo’ak! Come on brother. I thought the ‘I will stay by your side for the rest of -” Neteyam taunts, being cut off by Ao’nung shoving him in the chest. Roxto tries to keep his smile to himself, finding the whole ordeal amusing.
“Agh.” Ao’nung spit, rolling his eyes before turning around and walking away.

hellooo! i absolutely love your writing, you’re very talented! i was wondering if you could write a aonung x fem!metkayina!reader for me where y/n makes a gift for aonung out of random little trinkets but gets super embarrassed so she quickly lays it on the ground next to him and runs off. idk it just sounds adorable to me! if you can’t do that or can think of a better way to write it than i’m explaining, that’s fine! <333
A Necklace
Tumblr media
summary: Y/N is not a well-known member of the Metkayina, yet she yearns for the Olo’eyktan’s son Ao’nung, so she makes him a gift to show her affection towards the boy
1.2k words!
──── ⑅*❀*⑅ ────
You grew up hearing the story about how your mother courted your father. It was a warm day and your mother had worked for weeks assembling a seashell embellished headpiece for him to wear. Your mother gave it to your father as she confessed her feelings, and your father has yet to remove the headpiece from his body.
You couldn’t help but think of a certain boy when your mother repeats the story to you. Ao’nung. The clan leader’s son. His hair was tied perfectly into a bun, letting his curls out on display, his arms were wide and the way he smiled made your heart flutter.
You talked to him occasionally as you were friends with Tsireya. It was short-lived conversations as you could never keep them going due to the feeling of butterflies in your stomach making you so nervous you felt as if you might throw up.
Whenever he looked at you his eyes shimmered in the sunlight and his skin softly glowed. You were convinced he was the most beautiful man in Pandora. You had to tell him your feelings. Whether he accepted them or not, you had to tell him so the butterflies in your stomach could flourish or they could return back to cocoons and be hidden again.
Going on your daily walk you spotted a beautiful seashell that the tide had only just brought in. It was small maybe the size of your fingertip, shaped in a delicate spiral, it was painted a sage green colour with subtle hints of white striped across it. Picking it up carefully you inspected it. It was really quite beautiful.
The idea hit you like a strong wave. You were going to make Ao’nung a necklace, confess your feelings and pray to Eywa he is kind to your heart. A rush of motivation flowing through your veins, you began to pick up little seashells and rocks you found across the beachfront.
Tsireya spotted you down by the beach and ran towards you. “What are you up to?” She inquired at you. Surprised you took the shells and other things you have found and hid them behind your back.
“Nothing!” You smiled mischievously. You were a terrible liar and Tsireya knew that. She rolled her eyes and quickly span you around seeing the shells.
“Why are you hiding shells? Are they magical?” She joked looking into your tightly shut palm.
“You have to keep this secret, okay?.” You said to her in a hush tone. Tsireya looked at you waiting with anticipation for you to say your secret. “I like Ao’nung and want to make him a gift.”
Tsireya’s lips grew into a smile that soon let out a loud giggle. “Y/N everyone knows you like my brother! You are so obvious with your affections towards him. You’re anything but subtle.” You felt as if your heart dropped to your toes letting out a grumble of embarrassment.
“Shut up about my subtly and never ever let Ao’nung know about this gift, I beg you.” Tsireya nodded patting your shoulder.
“I’d never tell him that. I’m your friend not just his sister.” You thanked her before scurrying off back to your home. Laying down all of the shells on your floor you organised it into a repeating pattern. In the middle was a large white shell that had green designs on the inside of it. On each side you put the small spiral shells you first found. Then finally you found some small beads your mother had made out of clay. Using some string you tied it together and prayed that Ao’nung would accept the gift along with your feelings.
Mustering up at least a tiny bit of courage you walked towards were Ao’nung usually spent his afternoons alone. You’d noticed his habit of sitting on the beach just as the sun began to fall a couple of years before and you always saw him sitting peaceful, letting the oceans breeze calm him.
You walked so that you were a couple of meters behind him and watched him in all his glory. Maybe this is why everyone knew you loved him, you really weren’t subtle on where your gaze was fixated. Seeing him so calm and close to dozing to sleep you walked towards him silently laying the necklace beside him praying he wouldn’t notice you. You slowly backed away from him.
You were sure you gift had been delivered successfully until you stepped on a inconveniently loud twig, snapping it in half. “Shit!” you muttered to yourself seeing Ao’nung startled. “Fuck fuck fuck” you grumbled to yourself trying to walk fast back to the village.
Ao’nung turned to his left to see a beautiful necklace laid out beside him. He noticed the way the shells had been specifically placed and the way the necklace was lightly tied at the end so someone could easily undo it. Looking around he noticed your fast moving figure.
“Y/N!” he shouted. You halted in your tracks cursing yourself and that stupid stick. You waved while slowly waking towards him. It suddenly clicked to him, you made him this necklace. Wait, you made him that necklace. The fact you thought of him enough to do this made his heart flutter, along with the fact he longed for you since the moment he first met you. He smiled up at you. “Did you make this?” He said carefully picking up the necklace as he got himself off the ground.
You nodded at him looking down. Must Eywa punish you so much. This was so embarrassing. You were going to burn that stick in a flame full of fury after Ao’nung rejects you. “I made it for you.” You stated to him feeling as if your stomach resided in your pelvis.
“It is beautiful, thankyou Y/N.” He said looking at it. Your eyes perked up looking up to him smiling to himself. “Help me put it on.” He demanded  opening the knot and handing the two side of the necklace to you.
Turning so his back faced you, he crouched slightly. Your arms looped around his neck and carefully tied the necklace together, the shells making quiet clicking noises as they hit his skin.
“There you go.” You smiled up at him, was he really accepting your gift, this must be a dream. “I thought of you when looking at the shells, as they’re so beautiful.” Ao’nung felt like his cheeks were on fire. His heartbeat fast, you thought he was beautiful?
“I do agree, these shells are beautiful. But Y/N nothing could amount to your beauty.” He spoke softly. Inside your heart was ready to take off and burst through your ribs. This must all be fake. It had to be a dream
You blushed covering your face in embarrassment as Ao’nung chuckled at your reaction and grabbed your hands gently to reveal your huge smile. Oh, he could never get tired of that face.
Looking up at his smug face your body filled with courage as you hopped onto your tippy toes to leave a soft peck on Ao’nung cheek. Before he could react, you had run off in embarrassment ready to debrief everything to Tsireya.
“What a weirdo.” He chuckled to himself putting his finger on where your kiss had left tingles on his cheek and left his heartbeat fast as he touched the handpicked shells on his necklace

"It's called a punch, bitch! Don't ever touch my sister again."
"Get him, Ao'nung!"
"Show him!"
"Stop this! Stop it! So stupid!"
"Ow! My tail!"
"My ear! Let go! He's got my ear!"
Kiri had begun to laugh the nerves off, amused by the ridiculous display of testosterone in all her short teenage life. Hiding her giggles behind her hand, all she could do was watched as her brothers pathetically fought for her dignity against Ao'nung and some of the other reef boys. It had all been fun and games until she noticed a familiar figure in the sky and she craned her neck up to see it.
A shadow looms over the boys, darkening the world around them as it drew closer. Lo'ak and Neteyam both take a moment to recognize the shadow before dodging out of the way, hot blood cooling from the fight as they quickly moved out of the reef boys' reach. Ao'nung, laughing because he thought they were running scared of him, was the last to see the shadow, only pausing when he noticed his friends looking up and their eyes widen in horror. He isn't given a moment to turn around because something large lands in the shallow water behind him and the force of it drove him to stumble into the wet sand below him. The growling and snarls coming from behind the chief's son send chills down his frame, despite the warm day, as he finally turned his body around to stare up at the beast.
Blocking out the sun above him was a large ikran, light blue with gold lightning running up its figure, cawing loudly as if it had caught a meal. Its wings splash in the water, digging into the sand beneath and cooling off like a tired pa'li. Ao'nung began to crawl away from the ikran by the heel of his hands and feet, breath panting rapidly as the fear took over. The fear didn't lessen even as the ikran's rider dismounted, feet splashing into the beach water, drawing up to their ankles. Ao'nung tried to control his breathing as the rider stood over him, snarling down at the Metkayina boy like he was a bug that was stepped underfoot.
Y/n te Suli Neytiri'ite bore a look of disgust, her bright yellow eyes boring into Ao'nung's very soul. Without looking away from him, she addresses her ikran, her four-fingered hand petting down the side of the beast's neck, "Easy, girl. He's the wrong kind of fish. You can't eat him."
Looking around, the oldest daughter of Toruk Makto demanded answers with a stern tone, acting years older than fifteen, "What's the meaning of this?"
Lo'ak spat blood onto the sand, "They called us freaks."
Blink and you would miss it, but for Ao'nung, who refused to look away in fear of the ikran and her rider, he caught the small shift in Y/n's ears before they reverted back to normal. Her tail twitched, too, and from observation, he realized this was the Forest People's way of showing alertness or agitation.
Kiri had caught onto her sister's shift in behavior as well, her voice cautious, "Y/n..."
"Go home, Kiri. Now." Y/n's voice was flat, rid of emotion as she took charge of the situation, pointing to her twin brother, "'Teyam. Pick that skxawng up and go wash your face."
Neteyam nods dutifully, bending down and grabbing Lo'ak's elbow, the younger boy rolling his eyes at the name-calling. Y/n's eyes narrow at each of the reef boys before directing her gaze at Ao'nung, who stiffens under her close inspection, "As for you... You think it's hard to learn your ways. So why don't you try learning our ways and you can be the judge of that?"
The female Omatikaya gestures to the ikran behind her, one corner of her lips slowly turning up as a challenge, "Go ahead. Make the bond."
In response, Y/n's ikran hissed, fangs bared and jaw open wide. Ao'nung could feel the hot breath of the animal fanning his face and could see down its throat. Suddenly the courage and the teasing had left his body. Eyes still wide, unable to look away, Ao'nung can only swallow down his rapid breathing while Y/n just huffs, unimpressed, "As I suspected. You're not even brave enough to get back on your feet. You wouldn't last ten minutes in the forest, Fish Lips."
Y/n waited until all three of her siblings were walking away before she made the tsaheylu with her ikran and mounted the creature, eyebrows raised while peering down her nose at Ao'nung, "Who's the freak now?"
She had flown away, leaving Ao'nung in the sand, the ocean brushing his legs while his friends stood around, gawking. After returning her ikran to the jungle behind the village, Y/n bounded her way back to the Sullys' marui, internally preparing herself for what her siblings likely told her parents. She was not disappointed as she turned the corner, entering the tent to only find her father waiting for her, her siblings already gone from sight.
"What the hell were you doing back there?" Jake demanded under his breath the moment he saw his eldest daughter.
"What do you mean?"
"Do not try playing dumb with me right now. Your brothers already told me what happened."
"I was humbling Ao'nung." She scoffed, smiling to herself as she mocked the boy not currently present, "He couldn't bond with an ikran even if he tried. They would eat him."
Jake sighed, exhausted beyond his years at her antics as he placed one hand on his hip and the other on his pounding head, "You weren't trying to humble him, Y/n, you were humiliating him. And you knew what you were doing."
She shrugged, "Either way it's a win-win. A bruised ego is a lesson-learned ego. That is, if he's smart enough to actually learn his lesson--"
"That's enough, young lady," Jake spoke sternly, the marine in him making an appearance, "Ao'nung is the chief's son. You either need to get along with him or at the very least respect him."
"And I am Toruk Makto's daughter!" Y/n snapped back, "Maybe respect should go both ways."
"Enough."
The tone drove Y/n to straighten her posture, glaring into the space ahead of her, avoiding her father's gaze as he approached her, "Any more backlash comes out of that smart mouth of yours and you'll be grounded from flying."
Her bottom lip pokes out as she pouts. Jake's eyebrow raises at her reaction and the simple facial movement is all Y/n needs before she mumbles out, "Yes, sir."
"Good. Now get lost." Slouching, she turns to leave.
"Hey..." She turns back to find her father standing there instead of the marine, his features softening into curiosity, "How scared was Ao'nung?"
A grin slowly dawns on Y/n's face, stretching the stardust on her cheeks, "Terrified."
"Atta girl."

It was close to eclipse and both Neteyam and Y/n were flying their ikran, bows in hand, and enjoying a few more laps around the island before they were forced to return to the village. Neteyam makes a hand gesture and instructs his ikran to dive, his twin closely following them on hers.
They land in the jungle, their ikran hooking their claws into the trunks and vines of the vast trees. Breaking the bond, Y/n jumped to one branch and then skillfully climbed down the trunk, Neteyam not far behind her. The twins land gracefully on the forest floor, their conversation cut off midsentence to the sound of a twig snapping. Both of them spin their heads in the same direction they heard the noise, their ears wildly twitching with every little sound they heard. Finally, with bated breath, the figure behind the noise emerged. It was Ao'nung, walking towards them from the direction of the village, a big bruise now sprouting over the right side of his face.
"Does this guy have a death wish or something?" Y/n muttered to her brother, all the while peeking up at her ikran nestled in the trees above her.
"Don't react until we know what he wants," Neteyam advises, leaning his weight onto his bow, acting casual.
A little smug to spite her brother, Y/n called out to Ao'nung as he approached them, "Little far from the reef, are we Fish Lips?"
He doesn't react to the insult other than a small sneer gracing said lips. When he stood still in front of the twins, they both noticed how he was struggling to look them in the eyes. His fingers twitched, trying to find something to do while he muttered, "I did something... some would think dumb."
"Some?"
"Tsmuke." Neteyam hissed at Y/n from under his breath.
Ao'nung continued, ears flattening to the point he looked ashamed of himself, "I brought your brother hunting outside the reef. And..."
"And?" Neteyam urged him to continue.
"And I left him there."
Y/n's head tilts at the same time her pupils shrink and her fangs make an appearance, "You did what?"
"I thought he'd find his way back to the village eventually, but he still hasn't returned. I just wanted to scare him!" Ao'nung defended himself, albeit a bit weakly, his eyes pleading when he finally looked up at stared directly at Y/n, "That's all!"
She huffs a laugh of disbelief through her nose and it sounded irritable. Y/n peered over at Neteyam with narrowed eyes, "I was right, brother. He does have a death wish."
"That's enough, Y/n!" Neteyam keeps a hand out in front of his sister to keep her at bay, then uses that hand to point accusingly at Ao'nung, "And you! We're going to see my father and you're gonna tell him what you told us. Let's go!"
Defeated and preparing for the inevitable, Ao'nung has the decency to at least lower his head in shame, half of his face still swollen from the fistfight so he winced in pain when he pouted. Neteyam moves to lead the three teens out of the jungle and Ao'nung moves to follow him. A hand shoves his arm, however, and the hiss Y/n breathes into his ear as she walked past him was the exact opposite of friendly.
"If my little brother is dead out there because of you, I promise not even Eywa will find whatever is left of you."
The twins had marched Ao'nung to their family's marui, demanding he explains to Jake what he did. After carefully listening, Toruk Makto didn't hesitate to seek out Tonowari and together they start a search party. It was already dark by the time the party set out, carrying tsmisnrr lanterns and other means of light around as they flew around on their tsurak. Neteyam and Y/n even took part in the search, flying their ikran back out after their parents made them promise to stay within sight of the village.
Soon enough, a Metkayina warrior hollers out a warning call, indicating he had found the missing boy. Lo'ak was safely brought back to the village and everyone had gathered around to check on his well-being. Neteyam and Y/n landed in the sand and rushed up to meet with their brother, watching him with their eyes as Jake and Neytiri inspect him for physical wounds. Overall, he appeared unharmed, all the while he glared up at Ao'nung, who had the decency to look ashamed. As the olo'eyktan insisted that his son was to blame for this incident, Lo'ak surprisingly came to Ao'nung's rescue, blaming himself and speaking for the other boy's innocence. Jake was not amused by Lo'ak's method of gaining friends and sent the boy home after berating him for shaming the family. Once alone, both Jake and Neytiri turn to Neteyam.
"Where were you?"
"Yeah, what happened to keeping an eye on your brother?"
"Sorry, sir."
Y/n, always her brother's shadow, stepped up from behind him, appearing in the soft glow of the village lanterns, "No, it was my fault. I asked 'Teyam to come flying with me and hunt." When both parents turned to one another, exchanging a voiceless conversation, Y/n's tail twitched, "You DID say we should always pair up if we ever go flying over open water."
Jake's posture deflated, eyes closed to refrain from getting another headache, "Sweetie--"
"He can't be in two places at once, Dad," the teen girl stated with drooping big eyes and lowered ears, "That's not fair. Instead of relying on your son to look after your kids, how about the parents do it for a change?"
The words stun both the parents and brother, all three staring at Y/n in shock as if she had just grown a second head. Neytiri's shock is the first to shrink in and turn to guilt, bottom lip puckered as she moved to reach out for her daughter. Jake didn't contract whatever sentiment his mate was feeling, however, as his posture stiffened back into a former olo'eyktan and war leader. He pointed an accusing finger at her.
"This attitude, Y/n, wherever it came from, stops now. This rebellious phase is over, young lady."
"Ma Jake." Neytiri's tone was gentle, with a small hint of a threat, as if daring Jake to interrupt her, "She is fifteen. Do you remember what you were like at that age? Although I doubt this personality is not a phase. I believe it is from watching you."
Jake looked back at his mate, scandalized while Neytiri just smiles and places her hand on Y/n's shoulder, "Look at her, Jake. Look at both of them."
He dutifully turned to inspect the twins, both of them staring up at him with identical, pouting eyes that nearly made him cave to anything they asked for when they were little. They kept their hair braided and near their shoulders, aligned with beads much like the hairstyle Neytiri wore when Jake first met her all those years ago. Their tanhì were not identical, Neteyam's forming rounded or lined patterns along his nose and under his eyes while Y/n's appear more scattered on her forehead and down her cheeks like constellations. Neteyam didn't have eyebrow hair, Y/n did. He didn't have an extra finger on each hand, but Y/n did. Both looked like Neytiri, which was easy to see, but Neteyam inherited more Na'vi features from their mother while Y/n definitely inherited the alien features from their father.
Neytiri admired her two oldest children with a fond smile as she reached out to grip her husband's arm, "They are the perfect balance of what we were like. They inherited the best parts of us."
A beat of silence is left between the four of them before Jake relents, unable to look his children in the eyes any longer and waving them away, defeated, "Go rest. Make sure your brother's alright."
"Yes, sir." They both say simultaneously, trying not to appear rushed when they quickly made their exit, beads clinking together as their braids moved while they walked.

The next day, both Neteyam and Y/n were surprised to discover Ao'nung hanging out with Lo'ak willingly, and Lo'ak didn't appear bothered. In fact, the future olo'eyktan didn't seem interested in being anywhere unless with the Sully kids and his sister and Rotxo. He still appeared wary of them, but at least he wasn't insulting them under his breath anymore. At one point in the early afternoon, all the kids huddled around on the rocks by the beach after their chores were done and had asked Lo'ak what happened the night before. He explained how he was attacked by an akula but saved by a tulkun. The reef children doubted his story until Lo'ak gave a brief description of the creature. Tsireya, Ao'nung, and Rotxo were all shocked and explained the horror stories they knew of Payakan, unwilling to believe he could have been friendly to Lo'ak until the young Omatikaya stormed away.
Y/n had listened quietly and waited until she was back in the marui to voice her thoughts while she and her twin were weaving a fishing net together, "He's confusing."
"Who?" Neteyam looked up and caught the knowing look in her eye, "Ao'nung?"
"Yeah. He's acting... nice. He's actually sweet when he's not around the other reef boys."
"Yeah, he acts like he's related to Tsireya." Neteyam chuckled lightly through his nose.
"You think Lo'ak made up with him?"
"I think so. Or maybe some level of respect and understanding has been placed."
"Still. He was cruel." She snarled, willing herself to remember the reef boy up until the day they met him, "I don't understand how Lo'ak could forgive him. He nearly died because of Ao'nung. Kiri was harrassed by him and you guys fought."
Neytiri and Jake both enter the marui and weren't ashamed to admit they were eavesdropping when the Na'vi woman pitched in on the conversation, sitting down in front of her twins to help with the net, "He's likely just starting to warm up to you, maite."
Neteyam grins teasingly, eyebrow ridge raised in his sister's direction while speaking to his mother, "Yeah, her especially. You should see the way he stares at Y/n when she's not looking, sa'nok."
Y/n feels her neck crack when she spun her head to stare at her brother, appalled as he laughed. Obviously, he must be right about Ao'nung staring when she wasn't looking since this was all news to Y/n. Her shock turns into a scowl as she reaches over to push his shoulder, "That's ridiculous. I attacked him with an ikran, ridiculed him in front of his friends, and threatened to tear him to pieces if anything happened to Lo'ak. He's likely planning another way to humiliate me."
Jake was cleaning his gun while they talked but took a moment to side-eye his daughter when she mentioned threatening the life of the chief's son. Y/n only smiled back in response to her father's silent scrutiny, her tail waving behind her with feigned innocence. Jake returned to his weapon while shaking his head, though he didn't hide the small corner of his mouth turning up. Neytiri smiled while watching the interaction, though it didn't reach her eyes. A small wave of sadness embraced her, a harsh reminder that her babies were growing and she could not keep them forever. Soon they'll be old enough to be considered adults once they have fully completed the trials of their Iknimaya, and then they'll be free to choose their mates. The idea of her children teasing each other over innocent little crushes brings both fondness and sadness to Neytiri's mind. Where had the time gone?
She shuffled from her sitting position in order to reach her daughter, pulling a braid out of Y/n's face, "People are cruel when they're faced with something they don't understand, matxe'lan."
"Neytiri, don't you dare try to teach our daughter Ao'nung is mean to her because he likes her," Jake spoke up, finished cleaning his weapon and now looking down the sights of it with a certain reef boy at the forefront of his mind, "That way of thinking never worked on Earth and I'll be damned if I let my children believe that sort of behavior is normal."
"It is true." Neytiri's eyes began to glitter with mischief, "Although if you are anything like your father, you'll likely make a skxawng of yourself when trying to impress someone."
Jake nearly chokes while his twins burst out laughing.
~~~~~~~~~
Y/n was disappointed when she was the last of her family to finish chores late in the day, leaving her alone while they were all elsewhere. Tsireya and Rotxo have taken Neteyam, Kiri, and Tuk to the Cover of the Ancestors to show them where their Spirit Tree resided, and Lo'ak disappeared right before then, likely to go meet with his new 'friend'. As for her parents, Y/n was certain they were with Tonowari and Ronal for the day, helping them gather medicinal plants from the jungle. This left Y/n to her own devices, though she didn't have any idea what to do with this newfound freedom, so she started by just casually walking along the beach. She traveled quite a ways, the village now in the distance behind her. The beach was getting thinner to the point where she was surrounded. One side of her held the vast ocean, the other side a dense, deep green jungle. Y/n wondered how long it would take for her to completely walk around the whole island, betting on possibly two days if she did nothing but sleep and walk.
Her thoughts are interrupted by the sound of something breaking through the gentle waves reaching up to the beach, and as her head spins around, her eyes immediately narrow on who was following.
It was Ao'nung, astride a hyper ilu as he himself appeared in a chipper mood, perking up and waving a fin-hand at her, "Hey! Forest Girl! Where are you going?"
"None of your business, Seaweed Brain." Was her immediate response, her internal defenses on high alert. She kept walking away but Ao'nung made sure to keep in stride with her, swimming just close enough to the shore where his ilu wouldn't get beached.
"Well, then let me come with you. Or if you are not actually going anywhere, I can show you a few good spots."
Her head turns back to him, openly skeptical as she pointedly stared at the distant village behind him, "What about your dick friends?"
He flashed her a confused grin, "My what?"
Right. 'Dick' is an alien word. Y/n huffs, rolling her eyes and facing ahead, still walking away, "You know, the pricks you were with while you were harassing my sister. Are they coming, too?"
"Oh. I dropped them."
It was said so casually, but it only confused her more, repeating the words on her own tongue, "You dropped them?"
"I don't like hanging out with them anymore," He shrugged, maneuvering his ilu to drift into deeper waters when it got too shallow, "They're no fun. All they wanna do is annoy everyone."
"And you don't?"
"Ha ha," he replied sarcastically with a deadpanned expression, "Come on, Forest Girl. Do I look like I'm in a position to trick you? I know your ikran is just one call away. I'm not that stupid."
"No?" She feigns surprise even as she slowly enters the water, the ocean greeting her up to her knees. She knew he had a good point and therefore, because of her boredom, decided to humor the reef boy and take up on his offer, "'Could've fooled me. Your stupid enough not to remember my real name."
Ao'nung rolls his eyes, "You don't exactly use my real name either."
One corner of the Omatikaya girl's lips stretches up and she shrugs with one shoulder in a touché motion. Using her tongue to make various clicks and calls, another ilu emerges from the ocean, and Y/n wads over to it, skillfully mounting it and making tsaheylu. Getting situated, she turns to Ao'nung impatiently, "Well? You mentioned a 'good spot'. Let's see it."
His grin wasn't the usual mischievous smile she had grown to correlate with him. It was more genuine and excited, his blue eyes twinkling like when the sun catches the striking blue sea. Y/n blinks in surprise at her own thoughts, quickly shoving them down as she tightens her jaw and her grip on the ilu, stubbornly staring ahead instead of at the boy.
Ao'nung drifted ahead of her, looking back over his shoulder, "Follow me! The best time to see it is at eclipse."
Both he and his ilu dive under the water and with only her thoughts, Y/n holds her breath and wills her ilu to do the same. The scenery vastly changes from land to ocean life, and the beauty below the water doesn't get ignored. Y/n was still fascinated by the ocean, always finding something new and exciting to explore. She dutifully follows Ao'nung and his ilu, smiling at the cute clicks and hums the swimming creatures make to each other. Swimming on an ilu isn't that different from flying on an ikran, only the ikran only have one rider their whole lives. The similarity between swimming in the water and flying in the air is that they both feel like freedom, riding faster than the two young Na'vi could on their own.
It wasn't a long swim, but they had completely lost the village behind them, still following the beach in the opposite direction as Y/n was doing earlier. Eventually, Ao'nung and his ilu rise to the surface, and Y/n follows, greedily gulping down air when she and her ilu breach. As she caught her breath, she looked around, trying to decipher where they were until she follows Ao'nung's gaze, her jaw slowly dropping in awe.
A large shadow had quickly grown over the teens in their approach. Looming above them was a high cliff, connected to the island and facing the open sea. This large rock face was greatly different from the ones Y/n remembered seeing as her family flew away from their home and flew across open seawater. Erosion had eaten its way through the center of the rock face, naturally cutting all the way through the cliff to form a large archway, hundreds of feet above Y/n's head. The only thing connecting the cliff to the rest of the island was the natural bridge made up of stone and plant life at the top of the arch.
"We call this place 'Sänrr Rong,'" Ao'nung explained while watching Y/n's amazed expression, craning her neck to look up at the tall archway, "'The Glow Tunnel.'"
Y/n lowered her head to face Ao'nung, the question on the tip of her tongue before he waves her off, "Wait a moment. You'll see."
And it was perfect timing. Eclipse came upon the pair and before her very eyes, Y/n witnessed a beautiful transformation. As the world darkened, bioluminescent algae began to glow and travel all the way up the inside walls of the rock archway, igniting the tunnel all the way through to the other side of the tunnel. It was so bright against the contrast of darkness that Y/n could look down and see all sorts of ocean life existing below her, an entire ecosystem that lived underneath this archway as she and Ao'nung slowly drifted through it. The water almost looked nonexistent because of how clear it was. The brightness of the arch led all the way down under the water and came back up the other side, surrounding them like a complete circle, giving off the illusion that Y/n and Ao'nung were floating on air, still straddling their peaceful ilu.
Ao'nung softly explains the beautiful sight, not wanting to ruin the illusion for the Na'vi girl, "The waves grow really high in this area, especially during storms. That's why the algae stretch all the way up to the ceiling of the tunnel. My people sing about this place, calling it the 'Doorway to Eywa' in many songs."
"Are we allowed to be here?" She asked, afraid this was a sacred place and as an outsider, she might be overstepping a boundary. This place was way too beautiful for her to be disrespecting it with her presence.
"We're still within the reef. Nothing big swims out here apart from txampaysye. We're safe. Some of the men take time away from the village and come here. Some of them cliff dive." Ao'nung catches a brief scrunch of her nose and eyebrows, an adorable expression if he wasn't trying to figure out her confusion, "You know-- cliff diving?"
Her expression falls into something more blank and impassive, unimpressed as she gestured to herself, "Do I look like I've lived around cliffs?"
He quips back in his own defense, "Do you not have an ikran rookery in the forest?"
"Well, yeah, but all the cliffs in Ayram Alusìng just lead to certain death. We don't have cliffs above water."
Ao'nung's jaw opened in disbelief, eyes bugging out of his skull as if she just told him the most unbelievable news of all time. The shock eventually wears off and is replaced by a shit-eating grin, the mischief she's grown accustomed to finally returning to his smile, "Come on. It'll be fun!"
He moves towards the cliffside and Y/n immediately reaches forward with a hand, words tumbling out, "Maybe some other time. We need to be home soon."
A mocking eyebrow ridge rises as he grins knowingly at her, "Are you sure you're not just scared?"
Her eyes narrow and her ears pin back, unwavering despite the nerves running about in her stomach, "I think you and I have been in enough trouble with our sa'sem as of late."
He relents then with a whiny groan, throwing his head up at the sky before coming back down to earth-- so to speak, "Fair enough."
The reef boy clicks his tongue, the ilu perking up attentively. Ao'nung moves to lead the way back home before he feels a hand briefly grip his arm, "Ao'nung."
He looks up, shocked as his eyes meet Y/n's, blue against yellow. Ao'nung's ilu makes a displeased noise, the creature doing a full-body shudder. Y/n didn't question it, but Ao'nung's gaze turned to the ilu, glaring down at it as if the animal betrayed him in some way shape or form. However, unbeknownst to Y/n, the ilu was only reacting to what it had felt through the bond after Ao'nung's name slipped past her lips. Ao'nung's glare relents after a moment, eyes glancing down at her small, alien hand touching his arm before he bravely glanced back up at her through his lashes.
She smiled, genuinely, like when she first saw the beauty of the archway. The attention sent a thrill up his spine, "Thank you for bringing me here."
His mouth felt dry, the tip of his ears burning but he was certain she couldn't tell in the dark. Perhaps the big ugly bruise her brother left on his face masked the embarrassment. He couldn't stare at her any longer and glanced back in the direction of the village, "You're welcome, Y/n."
Eclipse was over by the time they returned to the village. They had not returned as soon as they left, often finding themselves distracted during their swim home when either Ao'nung splashed her or Y/n chased him around on their ilu. Either way, their mounts weren't irritated, equally playful and mischievous as their riders. The young N'avi pair both felt estranged when they heard the other laugh, but it only egged them on to play around more, wanting to hear their laugh again. By the time they exhausted themselves from playing, they realized how much time had passed and finally returned to the village.
The only problem was that the village seemed tense upon their return. The joy quickly fled from Ao'nung and Y/n's faces, both scared and worried they were in trouble. However, the attention was not on the pair of teenagers, but on the gunship with war paint parked quietly on the bank closest to the Sullys' marui.
Ao'nung grabbed Y/n's shoulder instinctively and pulled her back to him, hissing at the sight of the gunship, "Sky People."
Y/n huffed and shoved his hand away, hope in her eyes with a small smile at the sight of the familiar war paint, "No, not these ones. These ones are loyal to the Na'vi and live among my clan."
Cautious and a little paranoid, Ao'nung only relented a little and eyed her down, "What are they doing here?"
That's where the hope died in her eyes, worry replacing it, "I don't know. I doubt nothing good."
The pair quickly rush to the Sullys' marui, finding a crowd of curious and equally paranoid Metkayina crowding up and down the walkways leading up to Y/n's home, worrying her further. Of course, it's always her family...
The first face she recognized was her twin, surrounded by Lo'ak and Rotxo. She rushed to her brothers with Ao'nung not far behind her, "'Teyam?" Neteyam spun around and his posture visibly relaxed, hand reaching out to gently grab the back of her neck as she looked around, "What's happening?"
"Kiri had a seizure underwater." He answered, eyes briefly glancing to Ao'nung standing behind his sister, taking note of it but not addressing it.
"What?" Y/n's eyes widen, her voice dropping to a whisper, shaking in fear.
"I don't know what happened." Rotxo explained, glancing between the teens who had just arrived, "I've never seen anything like it."
Ao'nung frowned, "Where are my mother and sister?"
"They're on their way. But there's Sky People in there, examining Kiri."
"I told you," Lo'ak addressed the concerned Rotxo, "Max and Norm are our friends. They want to help her."
Ao'nung turned to Y/n, "Aren't you the tsakarem of your clan? You could go to your sister."
Y/n shook her head, pulling Neteyam's hand off her head and squeezing it before letting go, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, "I chose not to be. Either Neteyam will find a mate who can be tsahik one day... or Kiri can do it. She's been more fascinated by it than I. And she had been teaching Tuk a thing or two..."
Y/n's eyes widen as a thought dawns on her, looking around before addressing her brothers, "Where's Tuk?"
"She's with Kiri."
"She shouldn't have to see something like that. She's too little."
Before Y/n could rush to the marui to fetch her baby sister, the tsahik arrived. Ronal glides through the crowds as they part for her, the destination the only thing on her mind. Tsireya walked close behind her with her mother's supplies gathered in her arms, handing them to her before Ronal stepped into the home. Tsireya remained outside, turning back to her group of friends, and managing to catch Y/n by the shoulders before she stepped into the marui.
"Let her work, Y/n. My mother needs the space and there are already plenty of people in there."
"But--"
"Your parents and Tuk are with Kiri," the reef girl spoke gently, smiling with understanding and kindness as she guides Y/n away, "She is not alone, I promise. She'll be alright."
The group of teens keep a reasonable distance away from the marui, sitting or standing around in each other's company as they waited. Tsireya kept Y/n close to her as if she was waiting for the Omatikaya girl to bolt. Meanwhile, Y/n took note that her father had brought Norm and Max out of the home, but her mother, sister, and Ronal were nowhere to be found, and that made her more anxious than before.
Rotxo tried breaking the silence, glancing up at his childhood friend, "So what have you been up to today, Ao'nung?"
Ao'nung, who had his arms crossed while crouched down, glanced up casually, "I went to the Arch today."
"Without me? Not cool, man."
The dig was playful as Ao'nung moved to shove him, "Well, you went to the Cove without me."
Tsireya giggled, "But you hate the Cove, Ao'nung."
Ao'nung's ears pin back and his gaze lowers to the weaving patterns of the walkway below his feet, embarrassed, "I do not."
"Do, too. You think it's boring."
"I wanna see the Cove," Lo'ak perked up, "And the Spirit Tree."
Tsireya practically beamed, ducking her head a little bashfully, "I'll take you next time."
"And me?" Y/n asked, smirking to herself when she watched her little brother's face fall at the idea of her tagging along.
Lo'ak tries brushing his disappointment away with a scoff, "Maybe Ao'nung can take you, sis."
"Or we could all go together," Tsireya offered.
Y/n could tell that Tsireya was just trying to be nice. Well, Tsireya is always nice, but sometimes she's a little too nice. She'll gladly let Y/n come along even if it meant not having as much time with Lo'ak. It was disgusting how obvious those two were. Y/n rolls her eyes jokingly and shakes her head, "Nah. Never liked being a third wheel. You kids have fun."
Lo'ak choked as he tried to form words of disagreement while the other kids laughed and Tsireya's cheeks darken a deeper shade of blue. Finally, Lo'ak managed to form words and they were clearly defensive, "You have never been a third wheel ever in our lives!"
Y/n quirks an eyebrow, "Bro, have you seen Kiri and Spider?"
"That's different! You know they don't like each other that way!"
"What way are you referring to?" Y/n grins wolfishly, tilting her head as Lo'ak realized she had caught him in a web, "And what makes you think I was implying you and Tsireya felt that way?"
As the younger Sully boy sputtered, Neteyam groans a little, nudging Y/n, "Alright, that's enough. Leave him alone or he's going to whine to me later."
"Yeah, Forest Girl," Y/n's eyes dart to the sound of his voice, catching the usual grin plastered on Ao'nung's face, "Let the little ones go. I'll take you to the Cove a different day."
Lo'ak bristled at the words, glaring at Ao'nung, "I take it back, Y/n. You can come with us."
Author's Note: Did I write this so I'd have a reason to call Ao'nung 'Seaweed Brain'? Yes, yes I did. For those who understood the reference I fucking love you.
Also, I don't personally ship Kiri and Spider, I just kind of used the pairing as a foothold for Y/n's brothers to tease her. I think they're cute, and I thought that's originally what James Cameron was going for, but the more I look into it the more I think they just love each other like siblings. In the graphic novel 'The High Ground', Kiri even states that she loves Spider like a brother and Spider doesn't question it. I think he loves her like an older sister because she protects him against other Na'vi (Neytiri) and she sticks up for him. She makes him feel like he belongs, hence why he chose her over Quaritch. Also, Kiri is played by Sigourney Weaver. I don't feel comfortable shipping two characters whose actors have zero chemistry and have a huge age gap. Clearly, I think their relationship will build up to something in the upcoming movies (Kiri uses her Eywa powers to grant Spider a kuru braid and he'll be able to breathe Pandoran air without a mask) but I don't think it'll have anything to do with romance.
That's my personal take on it. No hate to Spider/Kiri shippers. I know not everyone ships certain pairings and hates others because of their opinions and that's not what I was doing. I support Kiri/Spider shippers through and through. I also support Neteyam/Spider shippers (lowkey kinda cute) and Lo'ak/Spider shippers (also lowkey cute). Personally, I ship Ao'nung/Neteyam and I know people are going to hate me for that. But I don't hate people for shipping who they want.
Anyway, that's my PSA that ties to this Ao'nung x reader. Hope you enjoyed it!
Ao'nung watched as you practiced your swimming skills in a secluded bay not too far from the village. He didn't even try to hide his stare at all. Of course you felt his eyes on your back constantly and it lead your stomach to develop a weird feeling. No matter how hard you tried to focus, knowing that Ao'nung watched every movement and every breath twisted your mind completely.
You tried to calm your senses to try to dive again, but as soon as you were submerged below the surface your arms completely lost track of themselves and you immediately kicked your way back up.
It was frustrating, even more because Ao'nung watched. You glared over to where he stood but he was nowhere to be seen anymore. 'Finally' you thought to yourself and exhaled in relief. Before you could take another breath you felt something wrap around your ankle and pull you under the water surface again.
Shrieking in surprise and panic you quickly returned to the surface all shivering as you tried to free yourself from the grip.
Soon, Ao'nung rose out of the water right next to you, chuckling at the face you made after you coughed out the water in your throat.
"You're still making no progress, huh, forest girl?" he grinned, immediately earning a punch against his chest from you.
"One day I'll feed you to my ikran and watch it slowly devouring you, fish lip."
Ao'nung only chuckled at your threat, knowing that your tough facade was nothing but a setup. He just knew that you had a soft core behind all these platings you had caved yourself into.
"Still feisty, are you, y/n?"
"At least I'm not ugly."
"That makes two of us." Ao'nung teased with his brows arching at his own words.
"What do you want?" you groaned annoyed, rolling your eyes at the sight of his visage.
Before he answered he grabbed you by your waist and and pulled you closer, guiding you into the deeper water. His touch made your heart flutter, but you only frowned at the touch.
"I'm only helping you."
You tried to free yourself from his touch to get back to the shore.
"I don't need your help!"
He wasn't surprised at your harsh voice, as if he wasn't used to that already. Over the last few months he had figured out he didn't hate you. No, quite the opposite. Ao'nung liked you. A lot.
But showing his love meant teasing, teasing and more teasing. Not just you, but all of your siblings suffered from this.
He wasn't someone to pick you pretty flowers or take you out to eat with him, he showed his feelings by trying to break through your wall, and damn it, was he eager to do so.
With squinted eyes you protested against him. "Fuck off! Let me go you little shit! Get your disgusting fish fins off me, i don't want you to touch me! Neteyam will beat the shit out of you when I tell him--"
"y/n?" he asked with his sly grin. His voice so close to your ear made you shiver.
"Open your eyes."
For some odd reason you did what he asked of you and caught your own arms tightly wrapped around his neck because you still couldn't swim properly. His hands floated in the water and held you and him over the surface with slow circling motions. You hadn't even noticed how you wrapped your own legs around his hips and he had let go of your body.
You blushed heavily as you realized how tight you wrapped your limbs around this man, but he simply chuckled at your reaction.
"Getting touchy after all, forest girl?"
"Shut up and bring me back right now!"
Ao'nung patted your head with one hand, guiding it up to look at him, and you did. There was a certain gleam in his eyes, making him seem somewhat unpredictable. His face was only a few inches away from yours.
"And what if I don't?" he teased, resting his hand on your thigh. You hiccuped at his touch, turning your face away. He was not meant to see how embarrassed you were.
"Come on, stop pretending you hate me. I know you don't."
You didn't answer.
"Shall I prove it to you?"
"Ao'nung get me back-" your voice fell silent as you felt his warm lips against your neck, trailing down to your collarbone.
Unintentionally whimpering you bit your lower lip, hoping he hadn't heard, but his chuckle said something else.
You were melting under his touch, unable to maintain your hateful expression. Physical contact between you two was nothing new, but it usually consisted of much more unpleasant punches, bites, kicks and hair or tail pulling.
Your legs shaked as his lips captured the soft skin of your neck before passionately dragging his tongue over the few marks he had left.
Without even intending to do so, your legs wrapped around his hips tighter while you bit onto your lower lip.
It was as if he took control of your body.
Both of his hands traveled from your thighs up to your hips, shivering at the touch.
"Let me go!" you protested again, even if you were aware of the fact that he did not hold you at all.
He withdrew his hands for a while and his grin only grew bigger.
"You're the one clinging onto me."
Ashamed of your own actions you tried to hide your face, pushing it against his shoulder. A deep chuckle rumbled through his body, you could feel the bass of his voice sending vibrations through you as well.
"You know", he started, resting his hands on your thighs again, "I think I like having you so close. Without you punching me and all of that. And I'm sure if you're honest to yourself, you do too."
"How would you know?!" you hissed, to which he only clicked his tongue in amusement. Ao'nungs thumbs caressed your inner thighs, forcing a few more whimpers out of you.
"You should hear yourself. These sweet noises that you make, as if your body is begging for me to touch you. You can stop playing though now, let me explore your weak side."
His hand slowly but surely found its way in between your thighs, rubbing against your clothed core.
With wide eyes you opened your mouth, telling him to stop, not to touch you, to leave you alone, but nothing came out. Your breath hitched while he massaged your most sensitive area, irregularly inhaling and exhaling.
"See? You're not even stopping me. I knew that deep down you're not as cold-hearted as you'd like to be. You like me, don't you?"
You felt ashamed. He could just make your thick walls crumble in seconds. How was that even possible? Usually you'd be the toughest in his presence specifically, but all of that was gone now.
Since you did not protest he pushed the fabric of your loincloth aside and kept stroking your folds. He could sense your arousal. Hear it, smell it, but also feel it.
Your teeth met his skin as he slipped a finger between your folds, teasingly circling over the bundle of nerves thst made you whine against his shoulder.
He lifted your chin from his shoulder to watch your expression twist in pleasure as his middle finger teased your opening to relax, and as much as you fought against it internally, you soon did.
"Oh, you should see your pretty face when I" he paused, only to push his middle finger into you while his thumb continued to cirle over your clit, "do this."
In shame you breathed out his name, bucking your hips against his hand.
He hummed, carefully observing your visage while his finger curled inside of you.
"Have you ever touched yourself like this? You feel amazing around my fingers." He mumbled, eyes focused on yours as they rolled back.
"I wonder if that pretty little face of yours could look any sweeter." You couldn't look into his eyes. You were too ashamed. All this time you had made sure to keep your guard up, not expecting he could actually break it down that simple.
Another finger was soon inserted inside of your tight core, making you squirm at his touch.
"You're so cute when you look like this."
His other hand easily slipped under the loosely woven top that covered your chest barely and in no time he found your nipples, twisting them between two fingers.
It was too much. His pumping fingers inside of you while he stimulated your clit and your breasts, you couldn't take it for too long and he could feel it. Your walls squeezed his fingers as if your body wished for them to stay in there. Your head fell forward against his shoulders as you clawed your arms around him, hips bucking against his touch. Ao'nung enjoyed these lust filled moans that spilled out of your mouth over and over again, motivating him to put some more pressure onto your clit.
It was the last bit that you needed to cum around his fingers, grinding your hips against his hand until all of his movements came to an end. He slowly pulled out of your hot core and brought both hands to your waist.
"who could have guessed? The tough forest freak, sounding so sweet and lovely" the chief's son teased, snaking both arms around your waist to that you could let go of him and rest in his arms, still shivering. A good while passed like this. It was just you and him out there, all pressed against one another. How could you ever look into his eyes again now that he knew that you had a weakness for him?
"I'll hold you, y/n." he whispered into your ear gently, wanting you to relax your limbs. His voice seemed do gentle and pure right now. Your legs slowly let go of him just like your arms. They only held onto his neck lightly anymore while you floated in his embrace.
"I don't rememeber us ever being this close without trying to kill each other" Ao'nung huffed. For the first time in a long while you finally managed to get some words out as well.
"Your chances of me killing you are higher than ever. I swear I'll feed you to my ikran." But instead of fighting against him, something deep in your stomach told you to just snuggle against him and trust him with holding you over the water surface.
"I love you too, my sweet little forest girl."
A/N: Okay so I'm reposting this because I found out that the person who requested it was a minor and I don't play that shit on my blog. I am only for adults. So if you liked the old post, that one is gone now. All characters are aged up.
Pairing: Ao'nung x Fem!Sully!Reader
Warnings: Teasing, Smut, P in V, Rut Cycle, Breeding Kink, Choking, Creampie, Binding, Marking, Scenting, Blood, Belly Bulge, I think that's everything.
Word Count: 3.2k
Summary: Ao'nung has teased you relentlessly since your family came here. What happens when you stumble across him in the midst of his rut?
This felt like some kind of living nightmare. You and your family having to flee your home in the forest and come to the sea. Uprooting your entire lives, leaving everything you knew, forgetting who you were, and coming to start from scratch. The Metkayina way of life was beautiful and their village is wonderful in its own way, but it still doesn’t feel like home. Not even close. The one good thing that’s come out of this whole thing was meeting Tsireya. She’s been a welcome comfort for you and your siblings while you adjust to your new lives here.
She’s warm and bright and patient. It makes you wonder how someone so radiant could ever be related to someone like Ao’nung. Just the taste of his name in your mouth was enough to make you scrunch your face in annoyance. He was always just a pain to everyone, but a lot of times it felt like he put extra effort into tormenting you as Neteyam’s 5-fingered twin. The way your dad explained it, apparently twins are a human thing that can happen sometimes. The na’vi aren’t really familiar with the concept since it doesn’t occur naturally for them, but here you stood. The exception to the rule. And Ao’nung never let you hear the end of it.
Over the months, you learned to ignore him and tune out his endless teasing. Occasionally, when he would get tired of being ignored, he knew which buttons to press to get a response from you. Today was one of those days.
You sat out on the beach with Tsireya and Tuk and your mood sours when you notice Ao’nung walking your way. “Tuk, how about you go feed some of the ilu with Tsireya?” you suggested to her. You can tell what kind of mood he’s in from the mischievous glint in his eye. Her face lit up with pure joy.
“Can we?” she says to Tsireya.
“Of course. Come with me.” She holds her hand out for Tuk to take and you watch as she happily trails behind her into the water. The sight is enough to momentarily warm your heart before you have to harden yourself to deal with Ao’nung.
“Oh, am I not invited to join the party?” he drips sarcasm.
“I don’t need her getting caught up in your bullshit.”
He shrugs his shoulders and holds up his hands, “I wouldn’t mess with her. As far as I can see, she’s the only one of you that seems like a true na’vi.” You set your jaw and take a deep breath trying to center yourself.
“I mean the whole lot of you came out weird. Especially you. She wasn’t born with a weird extra finger or a spare copy. That child is more na’vi than you will ever be.”
He hit that button. You snap and hiss at him in warning. He’s unphased staring back at you with an amused smirk. He found it adorable to watch you get so worked up. And he loved being the one to get you worked up. “Fuck off” you snap at him before walking the other way towards the water with Tsireya and Tuk. Ao’nung turns on his heels and walks away feeling satisfied.
“I swear, Tsireya, I cannot understand for the life of me how you can be related to that!” you gesture back towards the shore at Ao’nung’s retreating figure.
“I know my brother can be a lot. He only teases because he thinks you are pretty.”
You roll your eyes, “That has to be the dumbest thing ever.” She giggles a little, “I never said he was smart, but it is the truth. Why do you think he’s always going out of his way to find you all the time?”
Tuk looks up at you, “Is Ao’nung going to be your boyfriend?”
You fake gag at her question, “Absolutely not Tuk Tuk. Now, show me how well you feed the ilu.”
Later on at dinner with the village, you sit with your family while they all talk amongst themselves. You’re not really paying attention to the conversation since you’re still a little agitated. Your eyes scan over all the people surrounding you and how happy they all look and wonder if eventually you’ll find that same kind of happiness. Or at least something close to it.
Rolling over the people, your eyes are met with a pair staring back. Ao’nung watches you from the other side of the bonfire. His face is serious and his breathing is heavy enough for you to see the dramatic rise and fall of his shoulders from here. What’s his problem? If anybody should be staring someone down, it was you. A nudge to your arm brings your attention back to your family. Neteyam is next to you giving you a questioning look. “It’s nothing ‘Teyam.”
“I think you forget, we have known each other since before we were brought into this world. I know you well enough to know that it is not nothing.” It was true. Neteyam knew you better than anyone. Whether that was because of him being your twin or because he took his role as the oldest so seriously, who knows. Most of the time, you’re actually pretty grateful that Neteyam could understand you so easily.
“Tsireya said something earlier and it messed with my head.”
“What did she say?” he scoots closer to you so that your conversation can be kept between you two instead of the whole family.
“She said…she said that Ao’nung thinks I’m pretty or something and that’s why he’s always teasing.” “Well duh. As much as I hate to say it, it is pretty obvious that he has a thing for you. And you’re not so innocent in all of this either.”
“’Teyam!” you are taken back by such an offensive suggestion. First Tsireya and now your own brother?
“You might not notice, but I do. Yes, he’s always picking at you, but you love this little game that you two play. It’s nauseating.” His tone is teasing, but he means it.
Ridiculous. How could you ever want someone like that? Your head turns to look back over at him, but he’s gone. You look around between the seemingly endless sea of people and can’t find a single sign of him. That’s weird, but you’re glad that maybe now you could continue on with your meal without eyes burning into the side of your face.
Looking around your marui, the rest of your family is peacefully sleeping. You had no idea how they did it. You couldn’t stop your mind from constantly analyzing all the ways that this place was so different from home and that thought literally kept you up at night. It had become something of a routine for you to sneak out on nights like this after everyone else was asleep. You’d tiptoe out of the pod and wander out into the forest by the beach.
It was nice here. It was the one thing here that reminded you of home. The plants and fruits were different, but the atmosphere was similar enough to give you some comfort. In particular, there was one large tree that you would visit most nights. You’d climb and sit on one of the giant outstretched branches and just listen to the sounds of the night.
This is everything right here. This is what helps you feel like you can finally breathe. At least, until you hear a scream in the distance. Immediately, your instincts put you on high alert. You stand from your spot on the branch with your knife in hand and look around as far out as you can see. A faint orange glow catches your eye from the mouth of a cave not far from you. That’s odd. Who else would be out here at this time? And why do they sound like they’re in pain?
You know that it’s probably not the smart thing to go investigate, but you’d also never forgive yourself if someone got hurt and you could’ve prevented it. You climb down and make your way through the forest towards the light you saw.
The closer you get, the more you can start to smell something in the air. It reminds you of fresh rain on tree bark. It’s almost sweet. You follow the scent to the opening of the cave, “Hello? Do you need help in there?” Your voice echoes around the inside of the cave and you’re only met with groans of pain for a response. “I’m coming in!” You grip the handle of your knife a little tighter before taking a step in. The glow grows brighter and finally a small fire comes into your vision.
You were already on edge, but the next thing you saw was what fully threw you off balance. It was Ao’nung. He was sweating so much you thought he might dehydrate himself, his hands were bound behind his back, and he was writhing around in pain. “Ao’nung?” His eyes snap to you and he looks completely different. Instead of his usual sea blue color, his eyes looked a deep purple.
“What are you doing here?” he’s out of breath trying to get the words out.
“I heard you yelling from almost a mile away, I thought somebody needed help. Believe me, I wouldn’t have wasted my time if I knew it was just you.” You cross your arms and shift your weight to one foot and his eyes watch the swing of your hips intently. He sucks in a sharp breath and doubles over. Your eyebrows knit together trying to understand what’s happening. “What is your deal?” You catch sight of a bulge poking through his loincloth and finally the last piece slots into place. “Oh shit…it’s your rut.”
He just nods his head since his mouth is too busy salivating.
Now it makes sense. The weird way he was behaving during dinner, the sweet smell in the air, and the hungry look on his face.
“Well, shouldn’t you be at home? I mean why the hell are you all the way out here like this?”
He shakes his head. “Too much…Need to stay away…”
Your chest tightens with a pang of sympathy for him. You’ve gone through many heat cycles without relief and it is excruciating. The suffering is unmatched. There’s only one thing that truly takes the pain away.
“This is crazy. I’m cutting you out of these.” You start to move towards him, but he tries to shuffle away from you.
“I don’t think you get it. If you cut me out of these binds, I won’t be able to stop myself. So don’t do it unless you’re ready to deal with what comes after.”
“I’m a big girl, Ao’nung. You think I don’t know what I’m doing?” you roll your eyes at him and move towards him again. “I mean it. This is the last warning I’ll be able to give you.” His tone is serious and his eyes are focused. But you don’t falter. You swallow down your nerves and continue forward. “Just shut up and let me do this, okay? Before I change my mind.” You crouch in front of him and reach around to his wrists. “Honestly, I don’t know why I’m even helping you. You’ve been nothing but a pain in my ass since I got here. But luckily for you, I’m feeling generous.”
You saw away at his bindings and your chest presses into his face. He inhales your scent and his hips twitch searching for something to grind against.
Before you cut all the way through, you pull back and look him in the face. His face tries to chase after your chest, but his restraints keep him in place. “This is the one and only time I’m helping your ass. Got it?” He can’t even bring his eyes up to yours when he nods his head. You tsk at yourself for getting mixed up in this mess, but there’s no turning back after your knife cuts through his ties.
His arms immediately fold around your waist and pull you into his lap so that you’re straddling him. He buries his face deeper into your chest breathing you in. “Chill the fuck out. Your scent is going to get all over me.” You try to crane your neck back, but a strong hand grips your throat and pulls you back forward.
“That’s kind of the fucking point.” His voice is a dark growl against your skin. His tongue drags a long stripe from the middle of your chest up to your collarbone and even further up to your ear. Your breath grows shaky. “You talk so much shit, but look at how your body reacts to me.”
“Shut up.” Your voice comes out more desperate than you mean for it to. He was right and you hated that fact most of all.
He’s growing impatient when his hands hold your hips and start grinding you into him. You let his hands guide you to where it feels best for him. His bulge presses against your clit with every drag.
He kisses and sucks on your neck and you just know he’s going to leave a mark. “Don’t…everybody will know…”
He only chuckles at your pathetic plea, “Everybody will know when you’re walking around carrying my baby.” He pushes his hips up against you and he can feel how you’re soaking through your own loincloth and his too. The waiting finally gets to be more than he can bear and he pulls his tewng to the side to finally free his impossibly hard dick. You feel yourself desperately clench around nothing. He pulls yours to the side and he lines himself up with your begging hole. You take a big breath to brace yourself, but you were not prepared for him to slam you down onto him in one swift motion and you scream out in surprise.
“Fuuuck…” he groans out feeling the way your walls frantically squeeze around him. You’re given no time to adjust before he’s lifting your hips up and down on his own.
It’s too much. It’s like he’s tickling the bottom of your ribs. When you finally take a real breath, all that comes out is a filthy moan. Looking down, you can see the imprint of his tip poking through your skin right at your navel. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
“Haah…fuck…Ao’nung…”
Ao’nung needs more. More friction, more of your sweet noises, more everything. That’s all his mind can think of right now. Just how much he needs you right now. He lays you down on the floor of the cave to give himself better access to pound into you.
His eyes are burning into your face and the eye contact is too much for you. It’s too embarrassing. You turn your head to find something else to look at, but he won’t have that. His fingers grip your jaw and turn your face back towards him. “Look at me. Take it.” He emphasizes his point by tightening his hold on your throat. Between his merciless thrusting, the intense eye contact, and his fingers around your throat, you can feel your orgasm quickly approaching. It makes you feel lightheaded and even as your vision starts to blur, you never move your eyes from his face.
Just before your consciousness slips away, he releases his hold on your neck and moves his hands down to massage your breasts. He nuzzles his face in the crook of your neck and bathes you in his scent to mark you even further. His teeth sink into your skin deep enough to draw blood. He goes mad at the taste of your blood spilling onto his tongue.
“Oh, I’ve always wanted to fuck this perfect little body. Just watch you take it over and over. Fuck, I want to give you a baby.”
Was this just his rut talking? Or did he actually mean it? You couldn’t be sure anymore.
His pace gets faster and his groans get louder. “Fuck, I’m gonna fill this little pussy up.” His grip on your body is so tight, the veins in his arm are bulging out.
“Ah! Ao’nung! Yes!” your head falls back and your legs shake as you fall into your release. The way you clamp down around his dick pushes him over the edge and thick ropes of white spill over into your womb. It feels like fire in your veins, but it’s addicting.
Ao’nung keeps thrusting into you languidly trying to ensure he fucks as much cum back into you as he can.
He collapses on top of your heaving chest with closed eyes and you stare down at his face to try and check his condition. When he looks back at you, you breathe a sigh of relief seeing his normal blue shade. Never did you think you’d actually be happy to see Ao’nung in any circumstance.
“You okay?” you ask cautiously. He nods still catching his breath. “Great…You wanna get out of me now?”
“Oh, right.” He lifts himself up and pulls out of you and a primal part of his brain is pleased to see that none of his seed spilled out of you.
You stand to fix your clothing and hair. “So, you can go home now, right?”
He scoffs a bit more to himself than at you, “My ruts last 3 days. I am fine for now, but there’s no telling how long it’ll last for. I have to stay here until I’m out of it.”
All the nerves in your body come alive with…something you can’t readily identify right now. “Oh…I see…”
“So you’ll know where to find me if you’re ever feeling generous again.” He winks at you and you know that your face is flushed.
“You wish, fish boy.” And with that, you turn and leave back to your home. Thankfully, it’s still hours away from sunrise so everyone is still asleep. You stealthily slip back into your marui, but of course one person’s ears perk up.
“What are you doing?” Neteyam whispers to you. Shit.
“Nothing.”
“Why do you smell like that?” he asks. Shit shit shit.
“Don’t worry about it, ‘Teyam. Just go back to sleep.” You lay down and hope that will be the end of it. Neteyam knows better, but he’s far too tired to go back and forth with you about it right now in the middle of the night.
You finally get the best night of sleep you’ve had since coming here.
The next morning, you all have the day off of training so you get to hang around at home instead. You sit on the edge with your feet hanging over into the water. Jake comes and sits next to you, “You okay, baby girl?”
You smile softly to yourself at the nickname. You loved it, but you also felt like you were getting a bit old for it. “I’m okay, dad. I’m just still getting used to it here.”  He nods in understanding. “But I think I’m starting to settle in.”
You should’ve known better. Should’ve known better than to love harder than your fragile heart could take. Because now you’re hurting far more than you prepared for and the object of your affections is the cause of it all.
Ao’nung had a way of brushing you off, of putting as much distance as he could between the two of you. And you’d run regardless, cross as much of that stretch if it meant a chance at capturing his heart. You were shameless, persistent, sweet on the boy who wouldn’t even bat an eye at you.
Because at one point he had, when you two were little warriors growing into yourselves. But you can’t trace when things had soured, couldn’t understand why your heart grew fonder while your friendship fizzled like dissolving seafoam.
“Look what I found,” you’d coo excitedly during excursions you’d tag along to, remnants of a scrounged shell thrust triumphantly in the air.
You all hadn’t become teenagers yet, teetering over the fine line of figuring out what was blossoming in your heart.
His friends couldn’t be bothered to hide their laughter, jostling the leader’s son as you swam nearer to close the fragment in his palm. It was like you were giving him pieces of yourself, happily, willingly.
It took you too long, his friends would argue, to realize that he was letting the fractals fall to the seabed once you turned your attention to something else, to anything bigger and better to signify the beating of your heart to him.
When you had successfully completed your rite, had crawled from under your parents’ worried thumb, had started to become a woman, you pressed further.
“Wanna go for a swim?” you’d ask him right after eclipse and the waters would glow something fierce. Almost as if the ocean was cheering you on.
“Nope.” The answer’s always spoken without second thought, scoff following shortly after.
And you’d hear him from your family’s marui, splashing and laughing with his friends late into the evening, a dull ache in your chest at being rebuffed so easily when all you wanted was to be seen by him.
And it’d been like that for a while, chasing chasing chasing like you had the stamina of every little thing to grace the face of the moon, but he was always so out of reach.
“He’ll come around,” the elder who’d taken you under her wing had said one evening when the cracks were becoming too much.
“Hope so,” you whispered, watching as the stars twinkled something fierce against swathes of blue.
Tumblr media
The final fissure was humiliating, made your cheeks burn unbearably.
As a young woman, ready to spend forever, you’d gathered what was left of your courage. Had taken the plunge, and with your heart in your hands, you told him.
“Since we were kids,” you say shakily. “It’s always been you.”
Frankly, you catch him off guard. He didn’t think you had it in you, didn’t think you’d be able to get over your little crush and finally say something, but here you both are, standing a little ways from where his friends are watching with razor sharp eyes and pricked ears.
Ao’nung doesn’t know what to say, watching as you fumble with something in your little bag.
You continue, his silence making way for bubbling words.
“You’re the only person I could ever see myself–”
The laugh he scoffs out sends his friends tittering in the distance and the first crack is deadly.
“Be realistic,” he says flatly.
You try to mask the hurt that eclipses your features, a semblance of hope dancing in your chest that maybe he’d tell you he’s playing a cruel joke. That of course he sees you, of course he’d be with you. That after all these years of you chasing him, wanting him, loving him, he’d learned to do the same.
“Did you really–” He can barely contain his amusement. “Did you really think I’d reciprocate?”
“I- I mean–” you suck in a deep breath, throat thick with tears as you fiddle with the tie you’d made for his hair, corded with fragments of buffed shells and sanded beads.
His eyes flit to your fidgeting and a protest dies on your tongue when he snatches it from your grasp and turns the dinky little thing over in his wide palms.
“What’s this?” he asks.
Fuck, you’re beyond embarrassed, breaths stuttering as the corner of your mouth twitches into a frown.
You didn’t think Ao’nung could be this heartless. Thought that he’d be curt, quick when it came to turning you down, but this feels like an eternity and you want to disintegrate.
“This supposed to be for me?” he snorts, pinching it between his thumb and forefinger like he can’t stand to hold it.
“Yeah,” you whisper brokenly, after a moment of silence. “Made it for you.”
“Yeah, no thanks,” he chuffs, and you’re scrambling to catch it before it hits the sand.
You look up at him from where you kneel, eyes blurring as he stares down at you in contempt, like he can’t stomach the thought of you being in love with him.
“You’d offer nothing to this village,” he says spitefully. “To any man. Don’t be ridiculous.”
He leaves you there, kicking up sand as he rejoins his howling circle of friends.
How pathetic, you hear them whisper. The olo’eyktan’s son, really?
When you’re alone, when you hear them splashing through the waters like they hadn’t just shattered your heart, you shred the tie.
Tumblr media
“You are unkind, Ao’nung,” Tsireya tells him a few eclipses later.
His eyes swing from his catch, eyebrows furrowed.
“What are you on about?” he asks flatly.
“________,” she says simply, like he should know his atrocity.
And maybe he does. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about that night since. He’d barely given you a second thought all these years, but when he and his friends had returned the way they left you, he’d seen the tattered remains of the ocean weeds nearby. Seen the beads and shells from the tie scattered among the loam. They’d been smeared red.
Had he been too harsh? Been too unforgiving under the gaze of his expectant friends? You’d always been easy to pick and prod, so soft and unrelenting in the way you pursued him. But that night, something had shifted. He’d felt it so, didn’t realize that others did too.
After a moment too long in his head, all he manages is a shrug.
“How would mother and father feel?” she asks, obviously far more annoyed with how flippant he is about the situation.
“Why would they care?” he bites. “She’s a nobody.”
The look his sister gives him makes his heart stutter and his stomach twist.
“She is kind,” Tsireya says softly. “She is compassionate, skilled, strong. Her lack of status means nothing to mother and father if she is capable of leading with heart.”
When he is silent, she continues.
“You let your friends cloud your judgment,” she says. “You know better than anyone what’s right.”
His throat bobs.
“Apologize, Ao’nung,” she says fiercely.
Tumblr media
Ao’nung’s never had to search for you. You’d always been there, even when you were on the perimeter, waiting. But now it’s like you’re a mere thought that refuses to solidify.
“Have you–” He scratches the back of his head. “Have you seen ________?”
The elder you spent much of your time training under merely blinks at him. Tells him that she hasn’t seen much of you lately and he simply nods, bowing his head before taking his leave.
It frustrates him, makes him want to scrap this entire endeavor, but his sister’s words are etched into his mind and the bits and pieces of the tie you’d made him weighs heavy in a small pouch tied around the band of his loincloth.
He stumbles upon you purely by accident, near the edge of the reef. You’re all alone, a ball of weeds near as you weave quietly. It’s his chance, he realizes, just the two of you with no prying eyes and no pricked ears.
You nearly jump out of your skin when his fingers close over your shoulder.
Your expression softens and hardens in a matter of moments, standing so quickly you accidentally kick sand up into Ao’nung’s face. He splutters as he reaches blindly for you.
“Wait, wait,” he pleads. “Don’t go–”
“Don’t fucking touch me,” you hiss, lip trembling as you grab your materials quickly.
He shouldn’t be stunned. Shouldn’t be surprised that you’re upset, but he can’t help it. Not when you’ve been nothing but sweet to him, when all you’ve wanted was to be seen by him.
He murmurs your name quietly, blinking quickly as he knuckles away the particulates in his eyes.
“I don’t want to see you again, Ao’nung,” you hiss.
The words pierce him, brands him like hot iron when he sees clearly enough to make out the hurt painted all over your face.
He’s after you in his next breath.
“I’m sorry,” he apologizes quickly. “I- I-”
You deflect his reaching hands, shaking your head vehemently when he moves to take another step towards you.
“I have loved you since before I even knew what love was,” you choke, unable to get a handle on all the emotions swarming beneath the surface. “All I have ever wanted was to love you and be loved by you, but all I receive in return is humiliation. Hurt.”
You wipe the tears away angrily and Ao’nung is frozen as he watches you unravel, bears witness to every sentiment that you’ve kept a tight grip on.
“So, no, Ao’nung, I’m sorry,” you spit, face aching as you shudder through your declaration. “I wish I could go back and tell myself that I was being fucking stupid for wanting you.”
He flinches and you take one last look at him, like you’re committing him to an infalliable memory.
Tumblr media
Time lapses, no matter how long he yearns for it not to.
Nights bleed into days, into weeks, into months, and you aren’t letting up. The taste of his own medicine is bitter, deserved, when he seeks you out at every turn and all you do is widen the gap.
His agony is silent, consuming as he watches you grow from afar, sees what a wonderful woman you’ve become. Not that you hadn’t been before, but now he beholds you in all your glory and he is gutted.
You are every bit the definition of incredible, makes something visceral claw at him every passing moment both near and far. Because you’re healing, moving past such an awful suffering being bound to Ao’nung by what was once your desperate heart.
“This is your own doing,” Tsireya tells him one night, when the sting burns especially so.
He can’t help but watch you across the fire, the way you smile at one of your friends gently. Can’t even bring himself to retort something snarky to his younger sister.
Your eyes meet his from across the way, smile leaving your lips when you find his gaze already on you, and his heart sinks.
Tumblr media
Your parents have arranged your union with someone else, he hears.
“Pity the poor soul,” one of his friends scoff when the whispers finally reach his circle. “Forever with her sounds like–”
Ao’nung doesn’t know why, but it feels so right with his fist coated in his friend’s blood. Something like sick satisfaction curling through his veins when he clutches his nose in horror and asks what the fuck is wrong with him.
He knows he doesn’t deserve it, your time, but he’s mapped the course to your family’s marui well enough and he’s rushing down the woven path.
Your suitor looks happy, triumphant, as he stands before you and your family.
It should be me, is the only thought that crosses his brain as he sees the way you shift in stance, the smile not quite reaching your eyes. And you clock him before he can draw nearer, eyes glazing over with tears before you let out a deep sigh.
“Ao’nung,” your parents greet cordially, clearly unaware of the chaos brewing between the two of you the past few months.
“Don’t be rude, Maite, say hello,” your mother prods after a moment of awkward silence.
You bite the inside of your lip, toes curling as you give Ao’nung a curt nod.
“To what do we owe the pleasure?” your father asks, turning all of the attention over to the olo’eyktan’s son.
It’s his last shot at the two of you, at being able to make you his. His friends weren’t forever, but you were.
His shoulders square and he steels his nerves, eyes never leaving yours as he speaks.
“I’ve–” He takes a shuddering breath. “I’ve come to ask for her hand.”
Beauty & The Beast: Ao'nung
Avatar Masterlist
word count: 900
Request: ok i would like to request an Aonung x sully!reader where it's kinda based on the song Beauty and the Beast. I just feel like it would be really cute and could the reader be Lo'ak's twin?
Tumblr media
When you and your family first arrived at the reef you were met with a lot of stares and harsh words, especially from the Tsahìk who didn't want to let you guys stay because you had demon blood and weren't like them but thanks to her husband you guys were granted shelter and were promised that his kids would teach you how to swim.
Now Tsierya was so sweet and outgoing and very patient with you guys and you two were becoming fast friends and she was pretty sure she had a crush on your twin Lo'ak. Ao'nung, on the other hand, was very much like his mother, constantly reminding you guys how different you were and how you would never survive here, and him and his friends were relentless in teasing you guys.
You heard fighting as you were on your usual walk along the beach making you move closer as you saw your brothers and Ao'nung and his friends fighting each other with Kiri just standing there laughing.
"Come on guys break it up." You said trying to break the fight up.
"Stay out of this freak." One of them shouted at you.
You kept trying, making yourself roll your eyes at how stubborn they all were until you felt someone's elbow connect with your nose making you fall to the ground with a groan. Everyone stopped fighting to look at you sitting there holding your nose which was bleeding.
"Look at what you did!" Lo'ak said to Ao'nung who felt bad for what he did.
"Sis? Are you okay?" Neteyam asked crouching to your level as you shook your head no.
He scooped you into his arms calling over his Illu, before heading off toward the Tsahìk' mauri. Your parents were furious at what had happened, and so was Ao'nung's not believing you when you said it was an accident making you feel bad at the yelling he was getting.
A few days later you were sitting on the dock feeding your illu when you saw Ao'nung approaching you on his making you a little nervous.
"Hey, I just wanted to say sorry for breaking your nose, it wasn't intentional." He said sincerely.
"It's alright I know it was. I'm sorry you too." You said shocking him because why were you apologizing to him?
"Why are you apologizing? I'm the one who hit you." He asked you.
"Because I'm the reason you got chewed out by your parents, I tried to explain to them what happened but they wouldn't listen." You said.
"It's not your fault but I appreciate you saying that." He said to you.
From that day forward, you and Ao'nung became friends maybe a little close than that and he was definitely nicer to you and your siblings. After that incident, Ao'nung definitely saw you in a different light, all this time he had been too busy worrying about the difference between you two instead of the kind and beautiful girl that was in front of him the entire time.
"Hey y/n, hi Tuk." Ao'nung said making you look up from the sand castle that you guys were building.
"Hi Ao, would you like to join us? I'm helping Tuk build a sand castle." You said smiling up at him.
"I would love to." He said taking a seat next to you, already offering ways how to help make Tuk's castle better.
"Hey, where's your bracelet that you always wear?" He asked noticing that you didn't have it on today.
"Oh I lost it, I think it fell off somewhere and I haven't been able to find it." You said sadly as an idea occurred to Ao'nung.
Meanwhile back at your Mauri, your twin and dad were in shock at the scene before them, there you with Tuk laughing and smiling at something Ao'nung said. They looked at each other in shock there was no way this was happening, was there?
"So you and Ao'nung huh?" Lo'ak said the next morning during breakfast.
"So you and Tsierya huh?" You said looking at him while you ate making your other siblings laugh.
You were helping clean up after breakfast before you went about your day when your mom called you outside where you saw Ao'nung standing looking kinda nervous.
"Hey Ao, what brings you by?" You asked him.
"Hi, I umm know that you lost your original one so I tried to make you one that looks like it, I hope you like it." He said handing you a bracelet that looked exactly like the one you lost a few days ago.
"You made this?" You asked shocked at how identical it looked to your original one.
"Yeah I did, I know it's not the best but..." He started to say but was cut off by feeling you hug him.
"It's perfect, thank you." You said with a huge smile on your face as he hugged you back with a smile on his face.
Ao'nung swore from that moment forward he would do anything to see you smile like that and only for him. His heart belonged to you now, it was just a matter of time before you would be his officially.
My taglist is wack ass hell so I won't be doing taglist requests anymore. It takes me about half an hour to update the taglist as well, so it's more time consuming then I originally thought.
Spoilers for Avatar: The Way of Water A whole ass lot.
Special dt: @k1rislov3r
This is mainly a filler chapter so apologies if it's a bit dry, I'm trying to go into as much detail with the reader and her life so that the plot makes more sense. Also, I FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO MY CLASSES SO I CAN FOLLOW MY POSTING SCHEDULE, YAYYYY!!!! Thank you guys for your patience, I really appreciate it.
I did delete the original chapter for this so the sneak peek I posted was for the old chapter, this is the final cut for the chapter so it's completely different than what I posted. The reason why It took so long for me to post today was because I was editing mama Neytiri *smirking intensely*. Also, my brain is still fried, and I start more classes tomorrow so....I'm crying internally.
Tumblr media
You hadn't gone to sleep until an hour before sunrise, so you were exhausted to say the least. Jake was okay with you sleeping in some more for rest, but Neytiri countered, you needed to do your chores and you had said the night before you would watch Tuk. Kiri was going to assist Ronal and Neytiri in Tsahik-training and the brothers were joining a hunt with Aonung and Rotxo earlier in the morning.
Neytiri was upset with your reckless decision to stay up so late but she had promised Kiri would be done by lunch so you could take a nap. You had been struggling with nightmares, you had no idea what they meant, and you refused to talk about them. Even Kiri was clueless to your nightmares.
Kiri didn't think you'd hide anything from her, as you both promised to always share everything, and it was very difficult to hide anything from each other. You held your end of the promise... somewhat, you didn't want to worry her or anyone, so you hid it.
You couldn't even turn to Eywa for help, as you couldn't even properly connect to the tree. Mo'at thought it was a sign from Eywa for some greater purpose for you in life, but Norm thought it was something to do with the malfunctioning of your Neural Queue. He explained that the Avatar's body is not as fully functioning as a Na'vi body at times, and you could've unluckily gotten some sort of mutant gene from the human DNA that didn't allow your Neural Queue to work the same as others. It was odd though, you had no issue connecting to animals, just connecting to any trees related to Eywa.
You had tried before, the farthest you had gotten to connecting to Eywa was a white room of sorts. Nothing but you, the brightness of the white around you, and the echos of your voice begging for someone to respond.
That was the day the nightmares had begun, depicting war and violence, filling you with nothing but anger and hatred towards the sky people. On occasions even towards Jake, who you had lashed out at saying to him he was nothing but ' a disgusting alien bringing violence and war wherever he went.' Of course, you apologized and got heavily grounded afterwards, but Neytiri was beginning to worry that the lack of connection you had with Eywa was starting to affect you.
You tried not to let it affect you too much, you tried not to stress over things way beyond your control.
As of now you had your head rested in your hands, sitting crisscross with your elbow resting on your knee. Tuk was playing in the water, looking at surrounding coral and observing the fish.
You tail wagged a bit, moving lazily over the rock you were sitting on. You hear footsteps next to you, several people calling out your name.
" (y/n)!!" Lo'ak was the first to make his way to you, Tuk turning to him with." Hi Lo'ak!" She smiled before a yellow-ish green fish caught her attention; she immediately went back to observing the waters.
" Where's Neteyam?" You asked, your ears perked up at his presence, watching as he plopped himself next to you. He pointed towards the beach." He, Rotxo, and Aonung were right behind me, I don't know where they went though. Don't really care either." He shrugged, placing his feet in the water.
"Oh." You yawned, you were trying your best to stay awake but you knew you'd pass out soon." Hey, do you mind watching Tuk for a little bit?" You asked Lo'ak and he gave you a side eye. He wasn't happy about it but he knew something was bothering you and keeping you up so of course he wasn't going to be apathic towards you and keep you from sleep.
" Yeah sure, be here before dinner though. Mom will be upset if you're not back by then." You nodded and stood up, stretching your body from being in the same position for almost half an hour.
Normally your napping routine included flying (y/i/n) to a random and secluded area and napping together until it was time to head back. That or you let her fly freely through the air as you napped on her back.
This time you wanted to be alone, you currently didn't want to be around anyone or anything. You just wanted to lie down someplace and just sleep. Hopefully dreamless.
You made your way into the woods, not bothering to really watch where you're going, just trying to stay on your feet. You wanted to lay yourself on the ground floor of Pandora and just listen to the heartbeat that echoed from within the empty-feeling heart of Eywa. Your true mother, you may not be able to connect to her with your braid, but you didn't need to.
You could hear her silent comforting words within the wind, whispering in your ear words of encouragement that had never left your parents lips. Your feet carried you across the Earthy flooring of the walkway towards the denser part of the forest. The mother trees, the children, all of their silent voices being carried by the cool breeze.
The sound of the ocean's waves hitting the beach slowly vanished as your ears focused on listening to the birds and rustling of the trees. The longer you listened the more you tried to think of it as the Jungle's trees rustling or the animals singing.
You missed your home, and you will miss it as long as you remained on this planet. You were slowly falling into a depression, missing your home, your people... your family. It wasn't the type of sadness to make you cry, but the sadness that put a hole in your chest and made you feel empty. The Jungle was a part of you, and you missed it terribly.
You laid down on a patch of grass, running your hand over the blades of grass. Feeling the edges of the plant tickle your palm and the tips of your fingers. A comforting warmth drifted over you, the wind dying down as you closed your eyes and listened to the breath of the planet. You slowly began to drift, finally being able to rest.
Red. Orange. Yellow. Fire.
Surrounding you, ingulfing you but it didn't burn. It was like the rage of the flames understood you and you understood it. War almost feeling natural and like your second nature. You felt nothing as you cut through the humans like their life meant nothing to you.
It didn't, you could care less about these murderous and destructive aliens from afar. You wanted them dead, you wanted all of them to disappear. You weren't just angry, or rageful, you were vengeful. You were going to give them what they had given you, you were going to make them feel how you felt as you watched your friends and loved ones die for a fight that would never have happened if it weren't for them.
If it weren't for Jake Sully, HE started this, HE is the reason you are all on the run. Why didn't he just kill them all, why did he let them go back home in one piece. You would've shredded them until they weren't even recognizable, showed them to Eywa, your beloved mother that you would protect her at all costs.
These weren't your thoughts; you would never think this way of your father. What was this dream, who was this unrecognizable being?
You jolted awake, beads of sweat running down your face and tears sprung to your eyes. You hated these feelings, they were so foreign like they weren't even yours, but in a way comforting. You wanted to deny them but, on some level, you knew that you agreed with them.
You stood up and headed your way to a small stream nearby. You splashed water onto your face, wiping the tears from your eyes and staring at your reflection in the water.
You stood up, looking around realizing how late it was. It was way past Eclipse. You ran hand through your hair and drew a breath preparing to be grounded again. This was what? Your third or fourth time breaking a rule or causing trouble. Honestly you didn't care, at this point it'll happen at least every week.
You heard footsteps approaching you and you spun around on your feet in alert. Aonung appeared, he blinked a bit in surprise and then grinned." You have some awesome hearing, I thought I was being sneaky."
You rolled your eyes." You stomp, there's no way you could survive in the woods with those." You pointed at his feet, and he grumbled under his breath." My feet are not that big." He protested, placing a hand on his hip, his ears back in annoyance.
A small silence broke out, and you tried your best to keep your normal aggravating smirk placed on your lips. Aonung could see past it though, he paid enough attention to tell that you were not doing so well. He didn't watch you or anything, he was just very aware and constantly read people. Maybe at times he would watch you with someone and pick up on your mannerisms more than he would with anyone else, but so what you were his friend.
Well...friends a stretch still.
" What's wrong?" He asked, he might not be the best at comforting, but he was willing to try. You brushed him off." Your presence always seems to dampen my mood, have you not noticed?" You teased but he didn't return your teasing.
" I'm serious, whatever's bothering you, you can tell me." Aonung placed himself in front of you and placed a kind hand on your shoulder. Your shoulders tensed and your jaw tightened, the smirk falling off your face for a split second.
" Now what's got you all tinder hearted your big teddy bear!" You pinched the side of his ribs lightly and he instinctively pulled away." What? What is a t-eddy barer??" You slapped a hand over your mouth giggling at his terrible English." Did you just insult me? It is one of those human insults, isn't it?"
Your worries and bad dreams disappeared instantly, Aonung unintentionally brightened your day-or rather night. Speaking of night, you needed to hurry and get back to your families Marui. You looked towards the path that led you back to the beach.
" Don't worry, it's not as late as it seems, just after dinner. Lo'ak and I covered for you so you're fine." He gave you his charming smile, the calmest you've ever seen him be. You grinned, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and dragging him closer to you." You know...I kinda like you a bit now."
" Just a bit?" He teased and he placed a hand on your other shoulder. You put your other hand up and put your pointer finger and thumb almost touching." Just a smidge."
" So does that mean I've finally won you over?" He asked, his tone was light and teasing but he was asking an actual question he's been dying to bring up." Won me over? Hell no!" You shook your head." I'm not gonna be friends with you that easily, you have to do something biiiig." You exaggerated and he rolled his eyes, he should've known he wasn't going to get a real answer out of you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a member of the Omaticaya clan, you had a deep respect for the ways of your people. When you joined Jake Sully and his family in the journey to the Metkayina clan as they fled to seek refuge, you knew that it would be a challenge to understand the reef clan customs.
____________________________
The air was thick with the sounds of the sea, the chirping of insects and the calls of strange animals echoing in the distance. As you made your way through dunes covered with lush unspoiled vegetation, you couldn't help but feel drawn to the coast.
The Metkayina clan was known for their love for the sea, and you were curious about their way of life. You had heard many stories about the reef people, about how they lived in harmony with the ocean and the creatures that called it home. As you approached the shore, you saw a group of young Metkayina men gathered around a fire, laughing and joking with each other.
One of them caught your eye. His name was Ao'nung, and he was the chief’s son. He was unlike any other Metkayina you had ever seen. He was brash and overconfident, always pushing his limits and testing the boundaries of his abilities. Ao'nung was also known for his arrogance and rough demeanor, and he had a reputation for being disrespectful to others.
As you approached the group, Rotxo, a close friend of Ao'nung, noticed you and leaned towards one of the other boys to whisper something. Soon, a burst of loud laughter erupted from the group.
Curiously, you asked, "What are you laughing at?" Though, deep down, you knew they were likely mocking your appearance.
"Look at her skinny tail, it's like a twig," one of Ao’nung’s friends said, gesturing with his hands.
"Yeah, and her legs and hands are so thin, useless," another chimed in, laughing while giving you a cold glance.
You tried to brush off their comments, but it left a sour taste in your mouth. You couldn't understand why they found it amusing to mock someone's appearance like that. “Ha-ha. Your current behavior is quite amusing. Were you not taught that making fun of others is impolite? Perhaps it's not something you can understand with your limited intellectual capacity, though…” You commented bitterly, slowly raising one of your brows.
As you spoke to him, the young boy felt his cheeks flushing with anger. How dare you pick on him, he thought. He clenched his fists and tightened his jaw, trying to hold back his emotions, but it was no use. "What's your problem?" He snapped at you, his voice laced with bitterness.
After glancing around and stopping your glance briefly at Ao'nung, you spoke up, "You started this, and there's no reason to be so unkind to me." You then turned and left, walking along the shore and letting the little waves bathe your blue feet, knowing there was no use in sticking around with young Metkayina boys. As you walked away from Ao'nung and his friends, you felt hurt and upset by their cruel words. However, you didn't expect to see Ao'nung following you shortly after.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly, looking down at the sand after lining up with you. "I didn't mean to hurt you. My friends can be harsh sometimes, and I should have stopped them."
You were surprised to hear him apologize, but also felt a sense of relief that someone from the group seemed to care. You replied, giving him a brief glance, saying "It's fine, really. I've gotten used to the mocking."
Ao'nung couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt gnawing at him as he reflected on his past behavior. He had been so cruel, mocking not only the way you looked but also Sully's siblings. He could remember the way you had looked at him, hurt and defeated, and he couldn't shake the feeling of regret. He knew that he had been in the wrong, and he wished that he could turn back time and make things right. The memory of your brief glance made him cringe, and he couldn't help but feel like a monster for making you feel that way. “Listen, Y/N, can we start all over?”
You stopped in your tracks and placed your hands on your hips, giving him a withering look. "Are you seriously asking me to forget everything that was said? You were absolutely horrible, not only to me but especially to Kiri and Lo'ak. But, I don't like to hold a grudge, so we can give it a shot."
Ao'nung turned to you, a glint of curiosity in his eyes. "Tell me more about yourself then," he said, a hint of eagerness in his voice.
You raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised by his sudden interest. "What do you want to know? And are you seriously going to leave your pals behind?"
"Everything, and yeah, I bet they can hang out a little without me," he replied, a grin spreading across his face. "What do you like to do? What do you dream about?”
You hesitated for a moment, not used to opening up to strangers. But there was something about Ao'nung's expression that made you feel comfortable, so you began to share your interests and aspirations.
As you talked, he listened intently, his eyes bright with fascination. It was a refreshing change from the teasing and mocking you had experienced earlier, and you found yourself warming up to him.
When you finished speaking, Ao'nung smiled. "You're really something," he said. "I hope I can get to know you better."
“Maybe,” you replied a little softer than you intended. As you walked along the dune near the shore, you couldn't help but admire the beautiful wildflowers growing in the sand. They were bright and vibrant, contrasting with the neutral colors of the dune. You felt a strong desire to pick some of them up and take them with you. You turned to Ao'nung, eager to share your admiration of the flowers with him. "Look at these flowers! They're so beautiful, aren't they?"
Ao'nung glanced at the plants, but didn't seem to share your enthusiasm. "I guess they're okay," he said, shrugging his shoulders.
You couldn't understand how he wasn't mesmerized by their beauty. "Don't you think they would make a great decoration for our homes?"
Ao'nung shook his head. "I think it's a little silly to pick flowers just for decoration. They belong here, in the wild, where they can grow and thrive."
You realized that he had a point, but you still couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. The flowers were just so lovely, and you wanted to take a piece of that beauty with you. "Can I braid your hair?" You asked suddenly, a little shyly.
Ao'nung's eyes widened in surprise, and then he burst out laughing. "Braid my hair? That's not necessary and a little ridiculous!" He exclaimed, rolling his eyes a little.
You gave him a look. "It's not ridiculous," you said. "You owe me something after all, for the mocking you used on me. And I would be happy to braid your hair, if you'll let me. Perhaps I could completely put the past behind us and give you the opportunity to know me better.”
Ao'nung hesitated for a moment, then he shrugged. "Fine, but don't expect me to like it."
You picked two plants and apologized to Eywa for picking them without a particular purpose. Then, you turned to Ao'nung and as he sat down on the sand, and knelt behind him, carefully undoing his hair and slowly brushing it with your long, thin fingers. You braided Ao'nung's hair with skill and precision, weaving the strands in a beautiful pattern. As you finished, you delicately placed the two flowers you had picked earlier into his hair, creating a stunning adornment. “There. It looks good! Check it out, if you want.”
Ao'nung was hesitant at first, not used to wearing flowers in his hair, but he trusted you and let you work your magic. When he looked at his reflection in the water, he was surprised to find that he actually liked the way he looked.
"Well, it's not bad, actually. It's a bit too feminine for my taste, but I'm sure my sister would have loved it. Tsireya enjoys decorating my hair with various types of adornments herself," he told you, smiling a little.
As you and Ao'nung were enjoying the view, a loud whistle caught your attention. You turned around to see Rotxo approaching, and as soon as he noticed Ao'nung's hair adorned with flowers, he burst into uncontrollable laughter, holding onto his stomach. "What the hell, Ao'nung! I had no idea that you preferred your hair to be so tidy!”
Ao'nung had enough of Rotxo's teasing about his hair, and he straightened up, fixing his gaze on him. "Enough, Rotxo," he said firmly, "It's called fashion, and if you can't appreciate it, that's your problem. I like it, and that's all that matters."
Ao'nung's words elicited a chuckle from you. It was surprising to know that he had an understanding of fashion, given he was portraying himself as a bad boy. "We should start heading back to the village, the eclipse is coming soon," you suggested.
Rotxo approached Ao'nung and attempted to adjust one of the flowers in his hair, but Ao'nung swatted his hand away with a loud hiss as he showed Rotxo his sharp fangs.
As Rotxo gave his friend's shoulder a little push, the three of you began making your way back to the village. "I wonder what others will say about your new look, Ao'nung," Rotxo pondered.
Ao'nung shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't give a damn."
As the three of you arrived at the village, the sky was already darkening, and the first signs of the eclipse were beginning to show. The air was getting cooler, and the wind had started to pick up. The village was abuzz with activity as people gathered to spend time with their loved ones.
Ao'nung turned to you and gave you a sly wink, and you couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement at the connection between you two and a sense of warmth and connection with him, despite the awkwardness from earlier. The eclipse was a beautiful and awe-inspiring sight, and you were grateful that the promise of a new beginning was on the horizon.
Anonymous Request: Can I please request Ao’nung x reader where the reader is pregnant and Ao’nung is super protective over her and then she gives birth and he’s so sweet and caring towards her and his child?
TW: blood, childbirth
548 words
Groaning, I pull myself onto my ilu with measurable difficulty, Kxor, and give her long, slender neck a pat.
"Y/N!"
My eyes roll back into my head at the sound of my mate. I consider taking off without a second glance, but I'm not up for a fight today. Instead, I dismount with as much difficultly as I mounted, and when my feet hit the sand, Ao'nung's hands are on my hips, cushioning the fall.
I take a deep breath and try to remind myself that Ao'nung does this because he loves me, and he loves our child, and he's just overly concerned.
"You should be resting!" he says, his eyes narrowed, his tone exasperated.
"I'm not tired!" I reply, turning to face him. "I want to swim, and ride with Kxor. I am not lame, I am just pregnant."
Ao'nung reaches down, placing his hand on my swollen belly, as the baby dances. "Very pregnant. Mom said you're going to give birth any day now. Please, just be careful. Try to take it easy."
I lean forward, resting my head on his shoulder. He is a little bit right. For most of my pregnancy, Ao'nung has let me carry on as I normally have, but with birth looming just over the horizon, he's gotten a little bit crazy about keeping me within his sight at all times. "Can we at least swim together?"
Reluctantly, a smile crosses his face. "Yes, Paskalin." He takes both my hands, guiding me slowly into the water, and we enjoy a slow afternoon together under the water.
--
As it turns out, Ao'nung was right to be so concerned. By sunrise the next morning, I sit in Ronal's hut, a baby at my breast, in the most pain I've ever felt in my entire life.
Ronal works quietly and quickly, her apprentices at hand, while Ao'nung stares on, watching silently.
There's a lot of blood, but Ronal assures me it's a normal amount - no more than she had with Tsireya. I try to be relieved, and just stare at the tiny child on my chest, but the pain is so much.
"Ao'nung, take her for a moment," I say through gritted teeth. He takes her from my arms in an instant, and I lay back, letting his mother work.
--
Only a few hours later, my world is changed. Ronal is a miracle worker, and the bleeding has stopped, and the pain has subsided to a warm throb instead of a burning knife.
Ao'nung and I are alone, finally, with our son, who has not left my chest for hours.
My mate holds both of us to him, gazing down at our child, stroking his cheek.
"You have done me... the greatest honor of my life, bearing this child. I am so proud of you, and so grateful," he says quietly.
I want to remember this moment forever. The pain it took to get here, the agony I went through, and the happy tears in Ao'nung's eyes as he looks down at his son.
Resting my head on his chest, I close my eyes and take in slow, deep breaths. "I love you," I whisper.
"I love you. Sleep now. Rest. You have worked hard today."
He doesn't have to tell me twice.
STARRING. ao'nung x na'vi!reader
CONTAINING. fluff, established relationship (mates), no use of y/n, living together with ao'nung, time skips, soft ao'nung
WARNING(S). none (please inform me in the comments if you spot anything!)
WORD COUNT. 2.0k
synopsis: ao'nung's sudden change in attitude ends in a heated argument that lasted for days; cold shoulder, silent treatment, absolutely no interaction between you two. however, he couldn't risk you leave his life the longer you don't talk to each other so he pleads and asks you to give him another chance.
translation: mawey - calm down, yawne - beloved
Tumblr media
the night that fell upon pandora quickly disappeared with the sun rising. the sun radiating on your skin, as you felt warmth. warmth from the sun and him, you slowly opened your eyes adjusting it to the light. you panicked a bit seeing you and ao’nung cuddled up in bed. suddenly having a bit of a relapse to your argument, so you squirmed and breathed out in panic waking him up.
ao'nung awoke eyes widened looking at you, seeing that you were panicking which made him feel a bit hurt. “hey, hey. it’s okay… i’m not angry. you're okay... we're okay....” he said softly pulling you back in his arms, he brushed your hair gently to provide you a sense of comfort as your breathing stabilized.
“i’ll never ever shout at you like that again, hm? i give you my word” ao’nung said softly planting a kiss on your forehead, hesitating to kiss you on your lips. it’s been almost a week since you two kissed each other, which had him on edge for your love. little did he know that you were too craving for his touch as well.
you sat up, unwrapping his arms from your body. standing up so you could go to the kitchen and drink some water. ao'nung follows behind you like a sad lost puppy, your tail swishes a bit remembering the time how he followed you around like this when he couldn't admit that he liked you and wanted to court you. “can we talk?” ao'nung asks you, also drinking water.
you nod as you grab his hand to lead you and him back to the bedroom so you could talk in a more private setting rather than the open area-d living room. this made him smile as you grab his hands.
you and him sat on the bed as you try to avoid his gaze making his ears tilt downwards. ao’nung broke the silence, “i’ll immediately book an appointment with my mother… and i’ll attend as possible." causing your ears to tilt a bit which he notices.
"is there anything else i can do to show you just how sorry i am for what i did?” he softly says, grabbing your hands into his, desperate for to hold you.
with his grip on yours, you stood up making him stand as well. you pulled him to the table inside the bedroom, tilting your head to it to make him look there, as your tail lowly swished. showing the broken necklace that laid there untouched since you placed it the day of the argument.
the sight of the necklace immediately made ao’nung’s heart sink. he couldn’t believe that he damaged such a gift out of anger, such an important token of you two’s relationship. seeing the shell have a cracked signified the current situation of you two,
“i’m… so sorry, my love.” he whispers out as tears threaten to come out his eyes, he lightly squeezes your hand. “i don’t want to make you a new one, as it might seem that i’m replacing the memories it had… but would you prefer one?” he asks as you continued to stay silent, frowning a bit as you stared at the necklace.
“give me the chance to fix this, to fix us. to make you happy again? i know what i did was horrible, i- i have no words to reason out, but i promise to work hard to improve myself… please” he kneels down still holding your hands as he now sobs, hearing him cry and sniffle tugged your heart.
“stop crying…” you whisper out, squeezing at his hands to make him stand up. he stands up, still crying as he looks at you with his now puffy and teary eyes.
“leave me alone for a while…” he gave a sigh of relief when you mentioned for a while. he gives you a nod and a smile, “i’ll give you time, as much as you need. i just want you to be happy, and i’m willing to wait…” he says, letting go of your hands. his dropping to the sides as he steps out of the room.
"ha... it's you and me again." he mutters to the living room woven floor as he sat upon it, not knowing what else to do as he felt lost.
Tumblr media
you lay on the bed feeling tired and exhausted from doing absolutely nothing so you took a nap.
waking up hyperventilating, you struggled to breathe. you were feeling scared of your surroundings so you broke down on the bed. ao’nung heard you crying as he ran inside, forgetting about the space and alone time you asked.
he immediately wrapped his arms around you as you sat up, he gently caressed your head whispering sweetly to your ears to calm you down. “mawey, yawne… mawey…” he hesitates to peck your lips so he plants a soft kiss on top of your head instead as he tries to cradle you in his arms.
“what can i do? please… i don’t want you to leave me.” he softly says, his voice breaking as you look up to see him starting to cry. you nuzzle your face into his chest, taking in his scent.
“stop asking, and… i’m not leaving you, okay? i’m not… i just, i’m lost in my thoughts because i want us to be okay but i also want you to know that what you did was wrong so i'm distancing myself.” you said, looking up at him.
ao’nung kisses your forehead gently, hugging you tightly. “i really am sorry for what i did. you’re very important to me and i want you to feel better.” he says letting out the tension inside of him, he was glad that you to are at least talking again as you now gave him replies instead of the usual silence. “i know…” you softly reply to him, nuzzling back into his chest.
he kisses your forehead again gently, “i love you, you are my ocean. i hope you can forgive me one day, and i hope that by holding on to me at least feel some reassurance that i’m here…” he says softly as you only nod, not saying it back which he visibly frowns.
you two spent the day talking forgetting about the time was past eclipse. he had you in his arms again giving him relief that you two are finally sleeping on the same bed again, he disliked sleeping on the cold woven floor of the living room area without a mat, but he had to endure it considering his past actions hurt you.
Tumblr media
you squirmed in your sleep, slowly waking up. jolting awake as ao’nung noticed you, yawning. “hi…” he says yawnily, still a bit sleepy. “hi…” you reply back in a hush tone hiding your face in his chest which gave him flutters. “you got therapy today?” you ask.
ao’nung forgot to visit his mom to ask for a therapy session due to staying with you at home all day yesterday, he didn’t want to lie to you by saying he has one so he chose to be honest not wanting to break the current fixation of you two’s relationship right now. “no, i don’t… i forgot to go yesterday.” he whispers, scared of your reaction but he knew it was the best approach rather than lying. “but i’m going to tell my mom today though.” you give him a nod and a small smile for choosing to be honest.
“i know i said it countless times- i really am sorry for ruining the necklace, the things i said- shouted…” he trails off, “i love you, so, so much. i’ll go today, get therapy until i improve myself. i understand if you’re feeling confused right now with me…” ao’nung says softly but sternly, feeling genuine remorse for what he did.
you planted a soft kiss on his nose, avoiding his lips in the meantime. ao’nung can’t help but smile at the kiss you planted, it’s one of the most familiar gestures between you two after all. it brought him back to your first kiss after your first date. “do you forgive me? can you forgive me?” he asks. “i’m trying, don’t rush me. you skxawng.” you sternly say, letting out a small giggle which makes his ears perk at the sound of you. “alright, sorry… tell me, is there anything i can do right now to make you feel a little better?”, “make me breakfast?”, he laughs at your request but complies as he unwrapped his self from you to stand up.
“i’d love to make you breakfast, will anything do?” you nod in response as he proceeds to cut up some fruit and place them in a bowl.
Tumblr media
“here you go, love! breakfast in bed!” ao’nung exclaim happily, his tail visibly wagging behind him. “thank you… my love.” you whisper the last part, and fortunately ao’nung heard making his tail wag more a few bites later which gave him an idea.
“do you want to talk? as we eat? if it’s okay…” he cautiously suggested which made you happy. you and ao’nung loved to look back at you two’s memories, anniversaries or any celebration to lift up the mood or simply for fun, which became a routine for you two whenever one of you had a bad day. you assumed that it was what he pertained to so you nodded.
“where do you wanna start? from the beginning?” he smiles. “i remember asking you to help me with carrying my shells back home when we were children…” you smile at the memory as we ate.
“that’s because you took to much to carry! you should’ve brought a basket back then...” he playfully scoffs at the memory of you roaming the shore and grabbing shells as many as you can back then, where he would pick up the rest that would fall out of your arms.
“yeah, but you clumsily made me one the next day…” you softly smile, knowing the basket with shells is somewhere in the room. “hey! i did my best okay! i even asked my mother and tsi’reya for help…” ao’nung’s ears turn a bit pink in embarrassment.
"what about that one time where i came home from a hunt? where i had light bruises and some wounds." he mentions to you, which kinda agitated you remembering how badly you scolded him while he was just enjoying you lecture him. "you're the reason i keep having to make ointments! you should take care of yourself more when you hunt!! quit bumping into corals."
you and ao’nung continued talking til both of you ended up with empty fruit bowls. “…but then our argument…” you trail off, getting cut mid-sentence by ao’nung. “yes, i said terrible, awful things when i was mad. i should have never... under any circumstance said what i said or shouted at you.” his ears go back and down, feeling guilt.
“well… how about we approach your mother so you could attend a therapy session and consult her?" you suggest to him, as you look at ao'nung with love in your eyes.
"i… i want to see your attitude improve, my love. not that i think you have a bad attitude-! i just don’t… i don’t want you shoving me… calling me a freak or shouting things like that… when you have a bad day.” you softly say, grabbing his hands and rubbing your thumbs on it.
you noticed ao’nung’s ears immediately perk as soon as you called him love which made you happy inside causing your tail to swish, and for sure ao'nung as well.
“it’s okay, i understand what you're saying..." he whispers looking into your eyes. "i want to improve myself and for you as well… shall we go?” he says grabbing both of your bowls to place away.
you nod, “i’ll escort you on the way and pick you up after your session” smiling, as both of you fix up the bed and bring the dishes back to the kitchen area.
ao’nung’s heart feels a bit lighter. he feels confident that he can fix this, and improve himself for you.
summary: neteyam takes notice of the metkayina’s future tsa’hik who also happens to be ao’nung’s future mate. jealously seeps through ao’nung and y/n is there to clean it off him.
1.1k words
──── ⑅*❀*⑅ ────
You and Ao’nung promised yourself to each other years ago. It had always just been you and him, never leaving each other’s side. Growing so close to Ao’nung and his family you became close with Ronal to learn the ways of a future Tsa’hik. She adored you. She thought you were perfect for Ao’nung and knowing that you were one of the best healers this clan had ever seen it was out of the question for anyone but you to be future Tsa’hik.
It had become tradition between the Metkayina and the neighbouring clans to teach their future Tsa’hiks. To expand their knowledge outside of what just the clan knew to perfectly interpret Eywa’s will. You had been at a neighbouring clan for around seven eclipses and were set to head home the next morning. You missed your bed, your family but most of all you missed Ao’nung, you wanted to recount every experience you’ve had with him while you laid in his embrace.
Arriving back on the shoreline of your island you didn’t expect such a fuss to be made when you arrived.
“Y/N is back everyone!” Tsireya shouted to the large group she was with and ran up to where you were getting off your ilu to get back to your home.
Tsireya, Ao’nung and Roxto all came to greet you. Tsireya knocked you into a hug almost toppling you over. “Be careful!” Ao’nung sneered at his sister as he snaked a hand behind your back to give you a tight embrace. You could feel just how much he missed you by how his fingers dug into the flesh of your back.
Turning to the side you spotted four people standing behind Tsireya all waiting for her to explain who you were and why everyone was excited to see you.
But you were confused, they weren’t from any sea clans, they’re bodies were smaller, and their skin was a darker blue than the rest of yours. Tsireya noticed both groups confusion and chuckled slightly.
“Y/N these are the Sullys, they came from the forest for refuge and they’re adjusting amazingly well.” Ao’nung scoffed at this crossing his arms.
“Sullys this is Y/N, she just came back from our sister clan to learn more about being a Tsa’hik.” You waved to them as they all waved back to you. This was an odd addition you were not expecting to be there when you came back but you were not opposed.
You soon learnt all the names of the Sully kids. Neteyam, Lo’ak, Kiri and Tuk. They were all unique in different ways, but you seemed to spend more time with Neteyam and Kiri. Kiri was always with you as you developed a close bond with her but Neteyam? He followed you around like a lost child. He was just always there, and you accepted the fact.
“It wasn’t too different to the way we did things.” You were explaining your experience with your sister clan to Kiri and Neteyam. “I did learn quite a few more medicines and stuff of that sort. Better ways to heal the sick and keep my people healthy.”
“It must’ve been fascinating!” Kiri exclaimed, you noticed her enthusiasm for everything about nature, you could see her being so connected to Eywa it brough you both together.
It was hard to converse with such a piercing gaze dig into your side. You could feel Neteyam’s eyes burn into you. Still, you didn’t want to acknowledge the fact.
He was sure to understand that you were promised to someone else. Or maybe he didn’t care, either way you were sure to not feed into his infatuation of you.
“I could definitely teach you guys more about it!” Neteyams eyes widened in joy. The suggestion of spending time with you sparked his interest.
“Please do Y/N, it would be good to…learn…” Neteyam said brushing your shoulder with the tips of his fingers lightly. His skin against yours made you shudder, it wasn’t the same as when Ao’nung touched you.
 You looked at him seeing an odd spark in his eyes, deciding against the better odds you decided it was just your fatigue and you were making things up.
But no, it wasn’t the fatigue that was making you see Neteyam’s action and from a far Ao’nung watched as his chest rose in jealously. He swore if that freak was to put another finger on you he’d cut each of his fingers off.
“Well meet me here tomorrow, I’ll teach you more about the plants and what they do.” You smiled at them both before heading back to your pod. Neteyam’s touch and Neteyam’s eyes lingered in your mind, something about them made your stomach turn, in the worse way possible.
 Walking towards Ao’nung who resided in his family’s marui you saw his angry nature. The way his lips pursed, and his eyes furrowed. The way his breathing was fast and the way that as soon as you stood in front of him he ingulfed you into a desperate kiss.
His mouth was moving desperately, his hands roaming across your body. His eyes shut tight focusing on the sensation of his lips on yours. You weren’t against it, but you knew something was wrong.
Breaking from a kiss you caressed his cheek watching his angry stature dissipate. “What is wrong my love?”
“That forest boy.” He scowled getting angrier even thinking about the way his fingers glossed over your skin.
“Be calm and tell me what the problem is.”
Ao’nung groaned as he looked away from your gaze. He was so jealous, and he was embarrassed to say it. “He likes you. That freak is all up on you!”
Realization hitting you with Neteyam’s odd behaviour towards you. The lingering, the following, the touches. It was so obvious. Yet, you wanted to ignore it, so it didn’t end up with Neteyam being hurt and Ao’nung beating the ever-loving shit out of him.
“Oh is my Ao’nung jealous-”
“Shut up”
You pushed him lightly as you travelled your hand down his arms to grab his hands that were balled into fists. His grip released with you touch. He was totally undone by you, you were his biggest strength and weakness.
Sighing he sat down still holding onto your hand looking up to you. He was perfect, the way the setting sun reflected through his eyes made him look ethereal. How could he ever be jealous? You wanted nothing but him since you were born.
“Y/N can you please tell that stupid forest boy to leave you alone, go swim away and never return.” He was joking but the way he said it was so desperate it made you let out a giggle.
“How about you join me tomorrow when I teach them about some stuff I learnt, you can show him that we’re promised and promise me not to get jealous again. How about that?”
“I’d rather punch him.”
“Ao’nung.”
“Sorry….yes I’ll come.” Giggling at his manner you sat beside him resting a head on his shoulder.
He smiled at the way you found comfort on him. He was yours and you were his. No silly forest freak would get in the way of that.
“I love you Y/N.”
“I love you too.”
Kiri had woken shortly after, crying, but was otherwise unharmed and showing no signs what happened had affected her. They gave her a day to recover in their home while the rest of the Sullys went about their day normally, sending Norm and Max away with heartfelt goodbyes and returning to the sea life they had started to grow accustomed to.
Lo'ak and Y/n were put in charge of plucking barnacles off the bottom of canoes for the afternoon, and the young boy takes the time to avoid silence and boredom, "So what are you doing with Ao'nung?"
Y/n doesn't react or even bother looking up from her handiwork, "What do you mean?"
"I mean when did you guys become friends?"
She looked up then, puzzled as she stared at her younger brother, "I'm confused. Weren't we trying to all be friends?"
Lo'ak paused from working for a moment, shrugging, "Well, we were trying to just earn their respect and get along, but yeah, I guess we did come out as friends."
"I guess we're full of surprises."
"But the other night, you guys were being... weird."
Y/n huffed with mirth, "Look who's talking."
"Shut up." He snarled, "Have you guys been hanging out a lot?"
"Not really. Just a few times lately."
"Is that where you were the other night? This... Arch?"
"Yeah. Ao'nung said he had something to show me."
Lo'ak's expression goes blank, "Y/n. Dad taught us to literally never follow someone just because they said they have something to show you. He called it 'stranger danger' or something like that."
She tossed a barnacle at him, "Is this coming from the boy who willingly followed Ao'nung and his friends beyond the reef?"
"... Okay. Fine. You win."
"Besides, Ao'nung didn't phrase it like that. It was a lot less creepy."
"So why didn't he invite the rest of us to the Arch?"
"You guys had already gone for the day so he just took me." Y/n then reached over to mess with Lo'ak's hair, earning an annoyed hiss and she smiles, "Don't look too closely at it, alright? We're friends now."
~~~~~~~~~
A peaceful morning where the Sullys find themselves rolling up their nivi after a night's rest is interrupted by a horn, followed by whoops and hollers of celebration coming from outside. Confused and on edge, Jake and the kids emerge from the marui, looking around as the Metkayina jump around and dive into the water, making the newcomers curious as to what was going on.
Their answer came in the form of Tsireya, astride an ilu as she waves down her people from the water below their homes, "The tulkun have returned! Everybody! Our brothers and sisters have returned!"
Y/n looked up toward the atoll walls protecting the village from less docile nature. Emerging from the tunnels and pathways were rolling waves indicating something large underneath the water. Spurts of seaspray spring out like geysers from beneath the ocean's surface. It was a large pod of whale-like creatures, massive and slow. Their descent onto the village was graceful and one that brought much joy to the Metkayina as they couldn't get in the water fast enough.
The Sully kids couldn't wait either, jumping from the walkway around their home and into the water below. They scatter, exploring the new creatures one way or another. Tsireya had grabbed Lo'ak when she spotted him and pulled him onto her ilu, swimming away to introduce him to her Spirit Sister. Jake summoned his tsurak and both he and Neytiri take off to observe the sacred animals themselves. Rotxo had come around and pulled Kiri and Tuk away too, leaving the twins to their own devices. Ao'nung was not far behind his friend, inviting Neteyam and Y/n to come along with him to find his own Spirit Brother. All three teenagers grab an ilu and take off, making a game of chase with Ao'nung in the lead.
They weave through and around the large bodies of tulkun, dodging other ilu and Na'vi while keeping close to Ao'nung the entire time. He leads them through the chaos expertly, the three teenagers swimming quickly around a particular tulkun. Kiri, Tuk, and Rotxo were hanging onto the bull's fin and gliding peacefully through the water, the tulkun likely the reef boy's Spirit Brother. Neteyam and Y/n are only able to catch a glimpse of this as they swim by, keeping close to Ao'nung's tail until he slows down in front of a particular bull. This tulkun didn't have tattoos yet, much like Ao'nung as he signed to the twins, "My Spirit Brother."
Neteyam drifts close to the creature's eye, signing, "Greetings, mighty tulkun."
"I See you, Forest Brother." The tulkun sang as his form of speaking, and luckily, having had enough lessons, Neteyam and Y/n were able to grasp the old language.
Y/n ditched her ilu and swam up next, signing effortlessly, "I See you, Great Spirit Brother of Ao'nung."
"Hello, Forest Sister. I See you."
Ao'nung's hand gestures were too fast, and the twins were unable to read them but they had no need. The signing was not for them as Ao'nung was trying to relay a season's worth of events to his Spirit Brother, more excited than either Omatikaya have ever seen him. Ao'nung was smiling softly, and brightly as he tried to tell a story only to stumble over his own way of telling it. The tulkun in front of him chimed in as his way of laughing, urging the Na'vi boy to slow down. Y/n managed to pick up some of the gestures after Ao'nung slowed, not missing the words 'Sky People', 'Forest People', and 'new friends'.
Neteyam took a break to swim up and get some air, but Y/n managed to stay underwater a little longer. She didn't want to miss a second of this adorable interaction, and somehow found herself roped in it when the tulkun turned its eye to her.
"Ao'nung tells me that you are a mighty warrior, Y/n te Suli Neytiri'ite."
"He's being nice in your presence," Y/n signed back with a grin, "I have seen war but not been a part of it. I am too young. I am a hunter at best."
Neteyam, still treading water at the surface, takes a deep breath and simply dunks his face underwater, looking back down to locate Y/n and Ao'nung. He found them below, right where he had left them with the bull tulkun. Y/n was signing to the creature, keeping herself swimming next to his eye while Ao'nung floated off to the side, watching them. Neteyam didn't miss the way Ao'nung was staring at her, yet again, when she was not looking. The reef boy's face was calm, his lips relaxing into a soft, carefree smile, never taking his eyes off the Na'vi girl.
That evening was full of celebration, music and dancing a central part of it. Bonfires lined up the beach where the village people could still be close to their ocean brothers and sisters. Late night dives through bioluminescent waves, sending scattered stars up to the sky whenever a splash was made or a tulkun jumped through the air, cascading back down into the water.
Ao'nung kept Neteyam and Y/n with him most of the evening, adamantly talking about his Spirit Brother and the stories exchanged between them. At one point, the three of them were sitting on the edge of a rock fixture, their toes in the water below as they watched the tulkun dancing around in the distance. Neteyam rolled his eyes lightheartedly at a certain part of Ao'nung's story where his mischief had got the best of him. The Omatikaya boy took a moment to glance at his sister, then looked away-- only to double-check when he saw something that intrigued him.
Y/n was watching Ao'nung with a tender expression, her smile sweet and fond as her eyes locked onto every hand gesture and every laugh Ao'nung made, who was clearly unaware of her stares throughout his story-telling. She laughed and nodded whenever she was supposed to in between tales, urging the boy on when he knew he had an avid listening audience. Neteyam smiled, too, though he was sure it wasn't for the same reasons his sister was smiling.
~~~~~~~~~
After that fateful day, Ao'nung invited Neteyam and Y/n to everything. They spent whole afternoons together, sometimes sitting around on the rocks, soaking up the sun while they exchanged stories. After hearing all of Ao'nung's tales between him and his Spirit Brother, either one or both twins would tell him stories from the forest growing up. They told him everything, from their childhood to recent events before they had left their home. Ao'nung was actually a good listener if one sat him down to do so. He nodded in acknowledgment and asked questions between appropriate breaks in the stories. Neteyam could tell how much Y/n appreciated this side of Ao'nung, the girl perking up and gladly answering whatever questions he had. At the end of the day, Neteyam couldn't recall if he ever answered any of Ao'nung's questions himself, but he didn't have the heart to care.
The three were also fond of hunting together and sometimes brought Rotxo and Lo'ak along, this time within the reef and with higher spirits. Some days they would mess around too much and wouldn't catch anything, other times they used their newfound friendship and teamwork to coordinate and bring home enough fish to feed all their families combined.
Ao'nung and Y/n decide to bring all the kids to Sänrr Rong. Tuk was the more ecstatic out of all of them, but everyone was delighted by this new place they could use as a hideout away from their parents. This time, they got a chance to cliff dive from the very top of the arch. The reef kids showed them the path up but were shocked to watch the Sully kids effortlessly climb up the rock as if they were born to do so. Even Tuk showed zero signs of exhaustion as she took a stable vine hand and scurried up it like a monkey. The Omatikaya children were clearly faster and more agile climbers than the Metkayina and therefore made it to the top before the locals even had a chance.
"We'll throw you down a vine so you can catch up," Y/n jeers as she pointedly climbed over Ao'nung.
The reef boy hissed, though it appeared to be playful as he makes a point to tug her tail as she passed him. Y/n hissed back and made sure to gently shove his big forehead with her toes as she climbed before leaping out of reach. They all eventually make it to the top of the cliff, hair whipping wildly in the unforgivable winds, then the reef kids stood over the edge, looking down at the ocean water below.
"Okay! Everyone ready?" Tsireya beamed with excitement.
"For what?" Lo'ak questioned.
"SPÄ!" Rotxo hoots to the clouds as he jumps off the ledge, straightening his legs and stiffening his posture as he falls-- falls-- falls--
SPLASH.
"Who's next?" Ao'nung grinned.
Lo'ak was closest to the edge, peering over and even squinting when he couldn't spot Rotxo all the way down there, wadding in the sea, "Has anyone died doing this?"
The reef boy laughed, "If you wanna be the first, then don't stiffen your form as Rotxo did. Flail about like a screaming baby."
"Me next!" Tuk squealed.
"NO!" All four of her siblings, including Tsireya, shout in different ranges of emotion, such as fear, amusement, and seriousness.
The little girl stomps her foot, pouting as she crossed her arms, "Then why am I even here?"
"To keep me company," Y/n cut in, tugging her baby sister's arm until the shorter girl is pressed into her side. Y/n holds her tight while carefully watching the cliff, being sure to stay close to the middle and away from all edges.
"Aw, Forest Girl, you are scared," Ao'nung laughs, clapping his hands together once in amusement, "I thought you liked to fly?"
She glares at him, sticking her nose up in the direction of the cliff's edge, "That's not flying. It's falling."
Needless to say, Y/n and Tuk didn't do any cliff diving and left that to their other siblings. Kiri went first after Tsireya offered to go with her. Holding hands, the girls jump, screaming and laughing with both delight and horror. Neteyam paced along the edge of the cliff until he watched Kiri's head rise from the water, then relaxed. Once Ao'nung dared the Sully boys to race to the bottom, they were suddenly all for it, jumping off at the same time. Ao'nung took his time and teetered over the edge, grinning when he watched how nervous Y/n shuffled, keeping Tuk close to her side. The future olo'eyktan pretended to lose his balance, earning a laugh from Little Tuk and a scowl from Y/n before Ao'nung also jumped, hitting the water with practiced ease and a laugh still bubbling in his throat.
They climbed up and jumped back down several times, each time trying to persuade Y/n to jump. She put her foot down every time, even when her twin Neteyam offered to either go with her or stay with Tuk. Still, Y/n would not give into the peer pressure and Tuk was miserable by the time they returned home, squawking to her parents while stating that no one would let her cliff dive. Jake and Neytiri exchanged looks and appeared grateful when they nod to their older children with approval.
~~~~~~~~~
The Sully kids' lessons continue as usual, the older ones now granted permission to hunt in groups outside the reef if they pleased. Once they were fluent in signing, they learned to strengthen their knowledge in communicating with the tulkun for the next time. Their knowledge was tested when Tsireya, Ao'nung, and Rotxo refused to talk to them unless they used and perfected the language through signing. When Jake and Neytiri call their children home every night, they often find them sitting silently among each other, only using hand motions to communicate.
Many times, the group of friends return to the Glow Tunnel, to have fun or to enjoy the silence. Each time they all gathered at the center of the village, ready to go back to the Arch, everyone was so eager. All except one particular day, when Lo'ak was nowhere to be found once it was time to go. His absence did not go unnoticed. While Kiri decided to bring Tuk home, the others volunteered to go look for him, and hopefully, he wasn't in trouble like last time. With their newfound hunting party privileges, they go swimming beyond the reef in search of the Omatikaya boy.
They stumble upon Lo'ak by chance, and he wasn't alone. Swimming around him was an impressive tulkun, the left side of the bull scarred and missing a fin. Payakan. Neteyam and Y/n look at each other, worried, while the reef children watch curiously. Payakan and Lo'ak swam around each other like dancers, graceful and practiced. Then, the tulkun turned, fully facing Lo'ak, and opened his mouth, jaw unhinging to reveal the dark cave within. Lo'ak willingly swam in, and Payakan closed his mouth behind him. The twins went to scurry out of hiding as they watched this happen, but both Tsireya and Ao'nung stop them while Rotxo looked on, amazed.
Tsireya went on to further explain that Payakan had chosen Lo'ak to form tsaheylu, and while she appeared proud and excited at the idea, Ao'nung and Rotxo exchanged uncertain glances. Y/n had noticed this exchange, reaching out and grabbing Ao'nung's shoulder, forcing him to look back at her. When the reef boy met her curious gaze, she made movements in the water with her hands, "What is wrong?"
Ao'nung shakes his head and signs back, "Sa'sem will not be pleased."
They definitely were not. Once Lo'ak returned home with the other teenagers, word spread fast and reached Tonowari's ears. Together, he and Ronal round up the teens and brought them to their marui to have a stern lecture, berating the Metkayina children for allowing Lo'ak to bond with the tulkun outcast. It didn't go well as Lo'ak was adamant about Payakan being misunderstood and how he wasn't a killer, even by the Tulkun Way. Jake Sully refused to let his son explain and took him away to straighten him out, but the damage had already been done. Neytiri gathered the twins and followed the father and troubled son home.
They hadn't gone to the communal meal that night, instead, they ate together at home, as a family. Jake was certain that the Metkayina would only receive Lo'ak coldly should they turn up there now, so he suggested that they wait until things cooled down before returning to the village dinners. The Sullys' absence was missed that night, mostly by the children who had slowly become their friends.
Y/n was distressed when her family stayed close to their home the next morning, her father ordering the children to stay near and don't go further beyond the walkways of the village. It felt like a prison sentence to be stuck in one place when it was such a beautiful day out. Neytiri promised her children that they can move on with their lives tomorrow once Jake had calmed down and she spoke to him, but for now, "Listen to your father."
"I see that if one sibling gets punished, we all get punished now," Y/n snarled to Neteyam when she found a moment alone with her twin. Neytiri took Jake hunting with her so that they may talk, while the twins were ordered to look after their younger siblings for the night. Lo'ak and the girls went to sleep not long after their parents had gone, but the oldest son and daughter remained wide awake, talking quietly to one another just outside the marui.
Neteyam exhaled air through his nose, squinting at the dark ink of water in the distance, absently swinging one leg off the side of the walkway, "You don't mean that."
"No?"
"You're just saying that because you've been stuck here with all of us today, unable to go anywhere."
He turned and clocked the snarl on her nearly identical face, her eyebrow hairs furrowing together while she looked away, rocking herself by her heels, "I hate it."
Neteyam smiled fondly, "I know you do. You always hated small spaces. I can see why you like this place better than home."
A pregnant pause hangs in the air over the twins, the only sounds around them being the water and the village, still stirring with life as things begin to settle down. Y/n doesn't look back at Neteyam, sitting on his words for a moment until she slowly turns back, expression blank and immovable, "I don't like this place better than home. I miss home."
"Of course you do. Doesn't change the fact that you're far more free here than you were back there. You've adjusted well here, even if Dad doesn't see it," Neteyam leans over and pats his sister's knee, "He doesn't see how fast you caught onto the Metkayina ways, he just sees all the times we screwed up."
Her ears flatten as she glares at him through her eyelids, unimpressed, "You mean how Lo'ak screwed up."
"We, Y/n. We."
She rolls her sharp, yellow eyes, "If anything, Dad should be proud of him. Bonding with a tulkun is a young Metkayina's first step to their Iknimaya."
"And only you would know that because you've gotten so accustomed here."
She winced, batting his hand from her knee, "You can't talk like this when one day we're just gonna be heading home again. Stop it now. Talk less about how much we like this place and it might hurt less when we eventually leave."
"Do you want to leave?" He cocks his head, eyes scanning her face for an answer.
"... I want to see the forest again."
"That's not what I asked."
"... Do you?"
"Yes."
Y/n's eyes squint, confused, "Why?"
"I have nothing here."
"You have us. You have our friends."
"Yes, but that's all," Neteyam looks around and Y/n follows his gaze, "You have the ocean, the plant life, the sea life. The ilu, the Sänrr Rong-- everything. You love everything about this place. I only love the people. Don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful paradise and I loved experiencing every part of it... but I want to go home. I felt more at peace there."
"At peace?" The twin girl scowled, "We were at war, 'Teyam."
"Yes." She doesn't miss the way his eyes darken a shade, expression hardening into stone as he glares back out to the sea, "But war is what I was trained for."
The silence is chilling this time, Y/n's heart dropping to her stomach as guilt runs through her veins. Even as twins, Neteyam was still the older brother. He and Y/n might have been conceived during a war, but Neteyam had been bred for it, whether or not their parents realized this. Before Kiri was in the picture and before either she or Y/n had their own voices, Y/n was the one expected to be the next tsahik. With Little Y/n learning the Will of Eywa from her grandmother, Neteyam was learning to be the next olo'eyktan. He had to learn to be strong quick, to hunt quick, to think quick. Even when Y/n finally put her foot down and passed the torch of tsakarem to Kiri, she couldn't catch up to all Neteyam had already learned. She wasn't able to share that burden with her twin, and that guilt hung heavy in her heart.
"... That's not a good thing, tsmukan." She spoke gently, even her whisper sounding like a drum in the silence, "There's more to life than fighting."
"I know," Neteyam's posture shrinks, defeated, his smile not quite reaching his eyes when he glances back to Y/n, "But I haven't found what that 'more' is yet. Not for me at least... You did."
"I did?" She tilts her head curiously.
A glint sparkles in Neteyam's eye, like he knew a secret that not even his twin knew. His tail swings behind him with interest, teasing when he nudged her leg with his shoulder, "Ao'nung is good for you. And you're good for him."
He caught the flash in her eye. The flash of understanding behind the meaning of his words. The flash is there one moment and then gone the next. Y/n shifts uncomfortably in her sitting posture and nods, "He's a good friend."
"He is." Neteyam chuckles, "For me. For Lo'ak, and Kiri, and Tuk. But not for you. For you, he's 'more.'"
Quiet surrounds them once again, Y/n glaring down at her feet as if she had been caught stealing treats from Norm. She looked ashamed and belittled, likely wishing her own brother didn't know everything about her even before she knew those things herself. She swallows down whatever emotion came to mind before she looked up, stubbornly staring Neteyam down,
"I don't need 'more'. I just need this. This family is all I need."
~~~~~~~~~
The Sully family had been tense ever since Lo'ak bonded with Payakan, speaking few and far in between words to one another if found in the same space. It wasn't much significance to them whether or not Lo'ak had bonded with the outcast, but to Jake, it was all about principle. Whether or not the family was proud or disappointed in Lo'ak's accomplishment had not been said, but something heavy was floating in the air, like the calm before the storm. The idea of war was still fresh at the very back of their minds, ever looming like a vulture, waiting to strike. Something had changed the other night, shifting into place, deciding the Sullys' fates. Although, no one knew what kind of fate, and that unsettled them.
Unlike the rest of her family, however, Y/n wanted to do something about it. She started by finding the one person she knew would help her, "Take me to the Cove of the Ancestors."
Ao'nung looked up from sharpening his spear, ears immediately rising to the sound of her voice. He tilts his head and forms a closed-mouth smile, though his eyes squint in confusion, trying to solve whatever puzzle he found on Y/n's face, "Why?"
"Because you said you would take me there," Y/n quipped back, taking the spear out of his hands and backing away, "I'm cashing in the offer."
"What is 'cashing?'" He stood up, following her with his arm out, only half-heartedly trying to take the spear back from the Omatikaya girl.
When she purposely kept the weapon out of his reach, Ao'nung smirked, taking a huge step forward so he could stare smugly down at her with their subtle height difference. They were close, close enough to share the same air, and despite Neteyam's words playing back in her head, despite the shame and guilt in her gut, Y/n stomped it down and stood strong.
"It means I want you to stand behind your word." She matches his grin with one of her own, ignoring the heat threatening to rise up to her face as she purposely kept eye contact, "You promised to take me to the Cove. I want you to keep your promise."
She stepped away then, never taking her eyes off him until she fully turned back in the direction she came, walking away with the spear still in hand. She could feel his eyes on her, a thrill running up her spine at the mental image of it. An even bigger thrill, the one led by a horn of victory in her head, went through her whole body when she heard Ao'nung dutifully following her without complaint and without question.
They summoned nearby ilu and fled without another word. They dive down deep into the water and only resurfaced when they had left the sea wall and village behind. Once Y/n inhaled the crisp air, she tosses the spear back to Ao'nung, who effortlessly caught it with a grin of excitement and promise, "Follow me."
~~~~~~~~~
A feeling of familiarity took hold of Y/n when she emerged from the water and looked up to find floating islands all around her. An instant smile graces her face, looking around at all the floating rocks, surrounding a wide circle of water at the center of spectacularly arched rocks easily identifying this sacred place. It wasn't entirely like the Hallelujah Mountains. These floating islands were smaller and floated horizontally, like large stepping stones leading up to the heavens above.
Ao'nung emerged and looked around, unimpressed, "This is it."
"It's beautiful."
He shrugged, "It's not much."
"To you, maybe," she grinned while pointing up at the floating rocks, "To me, I see the potential of kicking your ass climbing up those islands."
He laughed, "Careful what you wish for, Forest Girl."
"Is the Tree on one of those islands?"
"Nope." He smiles slyly, "I'll give you another guess though."
She flashed an odd look before looking around, finally staring down below, into the water. Ao'nung dismounted from his ilu and drifted over to Y/n, "Remember, I'm just acting as your diving partner today. We always have to pair up here. One has to watch over and monitor the other while they connect to our ancestors. Got it?" She nods. "Let's go."
The Na'vi girl sinks into the water with him and they submerge after she takes a deep breath. They swim down, side by side, as they approach the large, underwater Spirit Tree. Instead of limbs hanging down like Y/n was used to, this tree's arms reached up, flowing in the water like an overlarge, glowing anemone. Y/n reaches out and gently touches one of the luminous, graceful fronds, smiling to herself when it tickled her palm to greet her.
Ao'nung chirps low in his throat, like a baby crocodile, to grab Y/n's attention. When she turned her head in his direction, he moves his hands about, "The Tree is called Utraya Mokri. It gives breath when the kuru is connected."
Y/n nods in understanding, reaching behind and taking her braid in hand. She gently offers the tendrils to reach out and curl into the ones belonging to the Tree and closed her eyes.
Ao'nung dutifully keeps watch while Y/n connects with his ancestors. The Tree glows and looms beautifully over him, but he's not paying attention. He's seen the Tree hundreds of times and while it is beautiful, it's nothing new. Y/n, on the other hand, is new, and his attention would rather fixate on her than the Tree he's grown bored of over his young life. Her braided hair floats around her like fpxafaw, and her tail, usually dormant, twitches occasionally in response to the bond. Her fingers, all five of them, still delicately hold her braid to the Tree's fronds. Her hands weren't as strange as Ao'nung initially thought. In many ways, he reasoned the extra finger was good for some things-- like the punch Lo'ak fooled him into taking. If nothing else, an extra finger just means more to hold.
Y/n's body jolts and Ao'nung is torn from his traitorous thoughts. He swims forward and wraps his whole hand around her arm and then her kuru lets go of the Tree. Y/n's eyes flutter, still closed, a little dazed and overwhelmed from the whole experience as expected. With Ao'nung's support, she's brought back up to the surface and she slowly remembers to breathe again, now that she didn't have the Spirit Tree to aid her. The two young Na'vi stay there, treading water as Y/n catches her breath, and once her head is no longer foggy, her eyes appeared saddened, an expression that irritated Ao'nung for some reason.
"Not what you were expecting?" He asked light-heartedly.
"It's just..." she shook her head, bottom lip pouting with her eyes lowered, the water reaching up to kiss her chin, "I was hoping for answers."
He didn't ask, but maybe he should have. It's something that would continue to gnaw at him as the rain clouds float overhead. It would gnaw at him as he expressed on returning home before the storm, it would gnaw at him as their swim back resulted in silence and pouring rain. It would continue to gnaw at him as they approached the village, his ears rising to attention when the horn sounds, his blood cooling in fear and worry.
"Find your family."
"Why?" Y/n asked as her ears lowered in concern, loose hairs plastered to her forehead, "What's wrong?"
"It's a war cry. My father has called for a war meeting."

A/N: Not sure when 'part three' will be out, but it'll likely be longer than normal. Thank you so much for all the support and love I have seen from my very first Avatar work! It motivates me to continue doing what I love!

Tumblr media
You've been yelled at before.
This time around you shouldn't be so fazed by it, right? Plenty of scoldings under your belt, plenty of punishments, plenty of earfulls. It was just another Tuesday to you.
But you stood there in the Tsahík's Marui, contemplating on wether or not you just run for the goddamn hills.
"You" Ronal started, pointing a finger at your face, you stiffened. "Need to stay away, far away, from my son"
"Mother-" Ao'nung began, an argument at the ready.
"-No! I will not hear it!" The Tsahík screeched, rounding on him. "What scandalous acts have the both of you committed under the witness of the night sky?" She dosen't give you time to answer. "I am not oblivious to the little smiles and longing stares the both of you send the other when they are not looking" she stops, circling both you and Ao'nung. "This stops now"
"You heard what she said" Says Jake, leaning closer to you. "Make sure you get it through your skull"
"You!" Says Ronal, pointing at your father this time. "You have allowed your rambunctious child corrupt the thoughts of my son! Eywa knows what kind of nonsense your daughter has been feeding him!"
Your mouth moved faster than your brain. "You're wrong, you know nothing"
"Y/N!" Your mother hissed.
"She is talking back! Has respect not been taught to you girl??"
"Mind your manners, Y/N" Jake seethed, making you grit your teeth.
"It is inevitable, Tonowari" Ronal had exclaimed tiredly, walking up to her husband who had remained silent this entire time. "Our son has lain with a half-breed"
Saying the Marui exploded was an understatement.
"Y/N, is what she saying true???" Your mother wonders, pulling you to face her.
"No! She's lying! We didn't do anything!" You replied, your head reeling.
"Y/N, kid, are you kidding me???"
You were on the verge of crying, trying to get him to calm down. "Dad please, I swear, we didn't do anything! we fell asleep!"
Ao'nung was quick to jump in, constantly at your rescue. "She is right, Toruk Makto, please, nothing happened between us, I give you my word"
"Do not come to her defense boy!" Ronal snapped acidly.
"Mother I do not see why all of this is necessary!" Ao'nung retaliated, turning to her.
"It is necessary because you have been wasting your days following this demon around when you could have been training to be the next Olo'eyktan!" She spat, making you duck your head.
"Your words are like knives to the skin, my daughter is not a demon" Neytiri intervened, practically hissing at Ronal, the expanse of her fangs being shown.
"You lie to yourself" Ronal replies. "You, of all people should know just how much falsehoods leave your mouth everytime you try to defend her true identity"
As she turns to Ao'nung you feel as if a bomb had just settled into its final countdown and you were tied to a chair, far away from it, yet so close at the same time. The greatest common factor? Was that you couldn't do anything to stop it. "This girl is not even real Na'vi! but a human who has been playing the part for far too long, she lies to us all!"
You wanted the floor to swallow you whole.
Ao'nung's gaze was enough to make sure of that.
"Ronal, that is enough" Tonowari finally says, she sends him a glare, he remains resolute.
She turns to the both of you again, instigating more fear into you, the ball in your throat swelling against your own will. "You will not be seeing eachother any longer, you will not be teaching her during lessons, you will not see her after your training, and you will not turn my son against me, that is final"
"What???" You shrieked.
"Mother you are not thinking straight, we can resolve this!"
"It is what needs to be done in order for you to become the Olo'eyktan our people need you to be"
"Whatever this is," says Jake, turning you to face him. "it ends now"
"Dad-!" You tried, your eyes hot, your throat constricting, your chest hurting. "You're really going to take her word over mine???"
He hesitates as you keened, staring up at him, waiting, wishing, believe me, please, i'm telling the truth Dad, believe me. Then something shifts on his face and your stomach sinks. "Enough" He snapped. "Any more and you're done"
Your face twists in hurt, in anger, in confusion.
"I do not wish to see the sight of your daughter's face near my son, ever again" Ronal declared.
"I'll make sure of it," He replies to your horror. "Let's go" says Jake, taking your forearm and practically hauling you away like you weigh nothing to him.
Ao'nung tries to follow you but Tonowari holds him back as Jake pulls you farther out of the hut, he is forced to stand there and watch as you get dragged back home.
When you do, you see the fleeting images of your siblings standing up from their seat before you pull your arm away from Jake's firm grasp, your hair flying everywhere.
"The Olo'eyktan's son???" He asked you condescendingly. "Really??"
"Would you have rather me go for his daughter instead???"
He sneered in disbelief. "You are way out of line"
"You believe the Tsahík's words over mine??? Mine??? " you reiterate, repeatedly pointing at your gut as your voice wavered shrilly. "Are you that goddamn deluded???"
"Well how the hell do you expect me to believe you when all you've been doing is sneaking around behind my back this entire time???" He yelled back, his forehead creasing.
"For Christ's sake we fell asleep!! I- I don't even like him like that!" You stammer, watching him walk past you.
"Jesus, you don't even believe yourself" Jake scorned dismissively.
"It's the truth!"
He whirls around. "Whatever alright???" Jake started. "You gotta learn that this is the consequence of your actions, you go running off with a boy at night??? Coming back home an hour before noon??? You're smart enough! Come on Y/N, you tell me what that looks like!!" He finished.
Letting out a shuddering exhale you frown at him. "You never listen to me!"
"No, you never listen to me! " He bounced back, taking a step forward and sending you a step away. "This isn't a one time thing, you've been acting up since we got here!- Oh who am I kidding?? It's all you've ever done, because that's what you always wanted make things harder for your mother! For me!"
You frowned, trying to hold the tears that threatened to fall as you let in a shaky inhale, boxing your arms in front of your chest as your lower lip trembled.
But your father just kept firing words at you. "D'you know how hard it is to put up with you??? With your antics? Why can't you just be more like Neteyam? Like Kiri?"
This was where Neytiri decided she needed to step in. "Jake, that is enough, you must stop this"
You try and shrug off your sibling's stares burning holes on the side of your head. "Well, fuck, I'm sorry I'm nothing like your perfect children"
"Hey!" He bellowed, making the Marui shake. "Watch your mouth!"
"Well it'll never work because I'm not your real daughter am I??? I'm just some charity case you took up to make you two look like saints!" You shrieked, balling your hands into fists, digging your nails against your palms just to put all your anger someplace else, streams of saltwater falling from your eyes and over your flushed cheeks. "Grace's kid isn't enough, let's allow those orphans from the lab to join our family too, oh poor Y/N's still adjusting with her avatar body, let's take her in too"
"You really wanna test me right now? You tryna get on my nerves??" He warned you. "All that mouth? All that attitude? Let's see where it takes you"
"If we hadn't left the forest none of this would have happened! If we stayed in the village none of this would have happened!"
"You wanna go back to the forest??" He asks you disdainfully before you see him take your drawstring bag, tossing it at your feet, your bow, your arrows, some of the clothes you haven't had the chance to put away yet.
"What are you doing???" You ask him, watching him throw all of your things in front of you, making you cringe and take a step back in fear.
"Drag your ass back to the goddamn forest then! Go! Let's see what happens!" He bellowed, pointing at the door. "You think now that you're such a big girl you can go say whatever you damn well please??? You think you're so big now huh??" He watches as you stood there, sobbing silently. "Come on! Get lost! "
Your face twists. "I hate you!" You screamed, your tears splattering onto the floor.
"You wanna go back there??? Back to the forest where they'll be waiting for you???"
"Better there than to deal with you!"
He lets out a condescending chuckle before he passes by your stunned siblings to collect the rest of your things, throwing them onto the floor. "You wanna leave so bad??? You wanna get killed out there??? Is that what you want??? You wanna get killed over having me as a dad???"
"Maybe I do!" You reply, pride taking over you like a virus.
"Be my goddamn guest kid"
You were exhausted. "You should've just let me drown in that goddamn river!! You should've never let me transferred bodies, you should have just let me died like my mother!!!" You yelled at a dismayed Jake, your throat dry and scratchy from shouting at such an intensity, phantom pains all over your body, your ears ringing.
"Why didn't you just leave me alone???" You wailed, watching just how his face fell. "Maybe then you'd have been the father I deserved!"
You didn't give him a second to even process your words before you stormed out. Running, and running, until you stopped and sat, and cried, letting your sobs let loose into the balmy afternoon air, crying like a mad woman, until your sobs practically dragged its claws up your throat as you let them out. You hadn't stopped crying when your mother found you, she tried wrapping you in her arms but you push her away, sitting on the floor and crying into your forearms placed above your knees as she took her seat beside you.
"I know you feel as if you do not belong with us at times because you think you are not like us, that you do not look like us, but know that I never paid attention to what they told me... that by taking in a Dreamwalker let alone an orphan to raise as my own would make the Great Mother furious" She whispered in such a tone that tore apart every thing you resented about yourself, Neytiri stitching it back up, without asking for anything in return and repeat, it made you feel tired, as an indescribable longing overcame you
Neytiri reached out to brush the hairs that clung to your face from the sweat and the exertion of breaking down, but you took her hand and shoved her away lightly.
What would she do with you, she thought. "You are my daughter, and nothing will change that" She tells you, stroking your hair as you continued to sob. "Not even if my nose looks different from yours, not even if you have eyebrows, not even if we do not have the same number of fingers on each hand"
"You're just saying that to make me feel better" You sniffed. "You don't mean that, you aren't even my real mom, it dosent matter"
Her heart sank. "But it does matter Ma'íte, it matters the most... look at me sweet girl" You look up at her. "you may not have come from me, we may not share the same blood, you may not see me as your real mother but I have not seen you as anything but my sweet little girl... because I know you, I raised you, and I loved you more than I could ever love myself"
You started sobbing even more. This was where you finally allow her to envelope you in a tight embrace, one where you cried onto her shoulder for what seemed like hours, she cradles you even if you were too big to fit on her lap, you didn't complain, nothing seemed to matter, you just wanted your mom.
When you finally pull apart to collect yourself was where she finally got the chance to ask about him.
"So, Ao'nung?"
You grin bashfully, still hiding your face from her. "Shut up"
"I was right, you lied"
"I know, I know"
Neytiri did not like the idea of him and you, but a bitter yet fuzzy feeling of familiarity bloomed in her gut. "Do you feel things for him, Ma'íte?"
You hesitate for a while. You were too afraid to say it, that you've fallen for him, for him, oh Eywa. "It scares me, mom" you gave in, looking up at her with your glassy yellow eyes. "There is this... this burning inside me, I don't know how to make it stop... and he caused it, he lit the fire, now it won't stop burning, it won't stop burning for him"
"It takes great courage to admit what you truly feel, to come to terms with something so difficult"
"I have only ever hated him, I don't know how to..." You stopped, trying to find the right words, looking at your scabbed knuckles in the process. "I don't know how to feel what I feel" you admit pathetically, laughing at yourself as you placed a hand over your eyes, your shoulders rising and falling.
"Your father is right in some things, wrong in others, but we both know you are smart enough to make the decision that will work out eventually" She explains, moving your hair out of your face. "Even if we do give you advice, I know for a fact you will always choose the one you think is best, even if it does mean going against us"
She wipes the last of your tears before she walks off, leaving you alone.
Tumblr media
You were on your way to vist your íkran, seeing as you haven't took her out for a proper fly since you arrived here, you needed to get your mind off of this shit show for a second, flying always did.
Your mind had already delved too deep in what turns and spins you could practice on her once in the air but all that stops when you hear Ao'nung call you from behind. You turn around, almost giving yourself a whiplash to see him standing a few steps away from you.
Your stomach sank to the floor, bitterness and dread eating away what little happiness settled into your mind as you shook your head, feeling your eyes turn hot. "No, no-"
His eyes were glossy and irritated. He had been crying too. "Y/N, I just want to talk to you, please just-"
You bolted before he could even finish his sentence, you didn't think of him, you didn't think of what lied ahead, you kept on running, and running, and running. Even if a stitch formed in your side, even if your mouth turned dry.
He only managed to catch up to you by cutting you off, appearing in front of your path as you had taken a sharp detour towards the forest, knowing you could start climbing the trees to get a higher vantage point and the upper hand on him. But your plans were shortlived when you rammed into him, forgetting to stop at the last second. Ao'nung gripped your arms in fear of letting you get away as you writhed underneath his hold.
"Let me go!!!! " You wail, kicking his legs, scratching his skin with your sharp nails, creating harsh red marks on the surface of his skin. "Let me go you fucking shit! Let me go! "
"Don't make this harder than it already is!" He yelled back, ignoring the strong tug at his heartstrings as he watches you hate him all over again. "Will you just stand still and listen to me???"
Tears roll down your face as you clawed at his arms, kneed him in the groin, the thighs, his knees. "Let me go! Just let me go!"
"No" He replied, his voice uneven.
"Ao'nung, please" You begged, your voice strained. "Just get away from me!"
"You have to listen to me, just listen to me!" He repeated to you like you were a child.
"No! No!" You insist, punching his chest with all your might, it takes everything in him not to double over. "Leave me alone!!! What the hell do you want?!?!"
"You! I want you!" He finally says.
"No! " You shriek at him, shaking your head, quick to deny everything, closing your eyes shut. Almost as if he would just vanish if you wish hard enough. "You don't! You're lying to yourself you don't!!"
"Do you know how hard it is to tell yourself not to want something Y/N???" He boomed making you stand still. "Even though it is the constant thought that runs through your mind everyday??? I fight with myself every day, every single day, because of it, because of you!" He confessed, as you stood there shaking your head, hot tears falling from your saffron eyes.
"When you first came here I was shocked when you did not like me when every other girl here would just laugh and bat their eyes at everything I say, but you? You did not care that I was the son of the Olo'eyktan, it did not mean anything to you" He shook his head. "That was just the beginning, I could not stop thinking about you ever since, you were infuriating, and witty, and compassionate, and I hated that about you, it was only late that I realised that I was falling for you because of it"
"Ao'nung don't do this please" You plead, sobbing. "You don't want this!"
"Want what??"
"You're lying to yourself! You don't want this! You don't want me!"
"I do!" He shouts, taking your face into his hands. "I do want it!" you allow it for a second but you tear his arms away from your face, backing away. "To hell with what my mother says, she is just trying to drive us apart! That is why she insists on the fact that you are not true Na'vi, that just because you grew up around Sky People it immediately makes you one"
"But I am one!" You shout. "I am a Sky Person! My mother was a scientist who was sent to this planet with many others, but when her sister died in the Great Battle she had buried herself in her work and drank her sorrows away, she slept with scientists and pilots who treated her like shit and when she was about to give birth she was on the verge of dying so it was either her or me... and I lived" You bawled, watching him as he stood in silence.
"But I was barely allowed to step outside, I got wounds easily, I got sick quicker, then one night I had fallen into a river and cracked my skull open, they transfered me into an avatar body just like what they did to Jake. I am not Na'vi, but I am far from being a human, I have never met my mother, my father does not know I exist, and ever since that night I have been living a lie" You wept.
"It does not matter to me"
"But it should!" You fought. "Ao'nung no one in their right mind would say such things" You say. "You are delirious, insane"
"If you'd know what I went through these last few weeks you'd be right to call me that"
"We can't do this, Ao'nung" You said, shaking your head regretfully. "Come on, you saw what happened today! What do you think would happen if our parents find out we were together? If- if they knew we'd fallen hopelessly in love with one another??"
Your eyes widen. You shouldn't have told him that.
"They don't need to find out"
"What??" You exclaimed.
"Not if we left"
"Ao'nung-" You began.
"-We talked about this before yes? You asked me if I would go anywhere else in the world where would I go? And I said that I would just leave. What if we left together?"
You open your mouth to argue but nothing came out, instead you sighed in frustration. "Ao'nung we can't do that, you- your family, your sister- my siblings- you have duties to fulfill, roles to-"
"-I never wanted to be Olo'eyktan! you know this! My father and mother would not have it when I had told them-"
"You told them?" You wondered quietly.
"I did, right after you left" He answered, taking note of your expression. "We could do it. We could turn our backs on this place and never return, you could teach me how to ride an íkran and we will travel Pandora"
A faint smile cracked on your face. "It's not that simple, you know"
"We could leave tonight" He insists, making you look up at the violet tinted sky above you. "We could do it, just you and me"
You and me. Him and you.
You wanted to be selfish. And yet you denied yourself.
"We both know we can't" you shook your head. "As much as we want to leave there will always be something holding us down, have you ever been away from water too long? What would that do to you?"
"You have to leave with me" He almost begged. "I want you to leave with me"
"You don't want me, not truly" you tell him. "Look, if you had known I was not fully Na'vi would you still fall in love with me?"
"It wouldn't matter to me, it never would have, whatever you've cursed me with it made sure of that" He says through a wet laugh. "No matter how many times I told myself that you were a freak, an alien, I always kept falling back in love with you, over and over, until I stopped fighting it and allowed it"
And there it was again. That same fire, ever burning, ever encompassing, like outstretched arms encasing your heart in its amber flames.
No. You feel like you were going to hurl. You couldn't watch him like this.
You were quick to turn away. But Ao'nung was quicker than you, taking you by the hand, pulling you back to face him, he dosen't take his hands away but instead threads his fingers through yours.
"Believe me, Forest Girl" He stopped, looking at your eyes, then at your lips, then back at your eyes. "I always saw past it, I always saw you" He says. "I see you"
Your whole chest was on fire, blazing, festering, gleaming.
A smile creeps back onto your face as he wipes your cheeks clear of tears. "I see you too, you skxawng"
Then, wonders of wonders. You kissed him.
And he kissed you back.
At the back of your mind there were a hoard of firecrackers that exploded right on cue, bright, loud, euphoric, oblivion. Unabashedly, this was how you imagined it would feel like, how your lips chased at his, losing yourself in him.
Ao'nung tuned the rest of the world out, all he thought about, all he could think about, was how perfect your lips were, melded to his, he placed his hands on your waist as you placed your hands over his shoulders, he smirks as he had to lean down just to make it easier for you.
You take his face into your hands as the both of you giggled onto eachothers lips, kissing him with everything you had in you, your heartbeat thumping in your ears, the blood rushing up to your face, you felt like you were flying, screw that, it felt even better than flying.
He felt like the wind got knocked outta him, this couldn't be happening. He had his tongue down the throat of Toruk Makto's daughter- that may sound extremely unbecoming and weird but he did in fact- have his tongue down your throat.
You pulled apart first, in need of air, looking up at Ao'nung as your chest heaved.
"Looks like all those breathing lessons did have some use after all didn't they?" He smirked, you waited for a moment before you shoved him, hearing him laugh once more.
Tumblr media
You two had just stuck around for a while, talking, laughing, kissing, even when it had started to pour, you two had just started running around in the rain, throwing mud at eachother, before you heard a horn.
You look at Ao'nung, with mud covering more than half his face and most of his body courtesy of you. "What does that mean?" You ask him.
"They are calling everyone back to the communal Marui"
You slumped subtly. "Do we have to go?"
He chuckled. "I would rather stay here and throw mud at you, you know that, but when they sound these alarms it usually means something of importance"
You sighed. "Fine"
"It is fine" He assures, walking up to you just to tower over you. "When eclipse falls, maybe... you and I could pick up where we left off?"
"I wouldn't be opposed to that" You grin up at him. "Maybe even go a little further" you suggest.
He chuckled wholly. "I guess we'll see"
"Bring some food, lay down a blanket, light a fire, tell some stories..."
He snorts. "That sounds good too, Forest Girl"
You couldn't help but laugh at him. "Don't worry, maybe we can do that too" you say, giving him a suggestive little grin.
He stares at you, appalled, before chuckling. "Don't sound so eager, not when you don't know what I have in store for you"
"Care to give me a hint?"
He hummed, leaning down a little. "I'll let your mind do it for me"
You roll your eyes mockingly, watching him walk past you as your cheeks grew warmer.
You two had washed up by the rocks that had running water pouring down all the way from the top, yet still not quite a waterfall even though how many times you told Ao'nung it was.
When you returned to the village, neither of you thought of letting the other go first to make sure that you didn't arrive at the same time, everyone from the village was there. You and Ao'nung had to squeeze yourself in between them just to get to the middle where you found your families, ultimately sperating you.
Lo'ak places an arm on your shoulder which spooked you. "Baby sis"
"Bro what the hell is happenning??' You wonder, frowning at him before you turn your attention to your father, holding a tracking device in his hands.
"They're here, baby sis" He says. "The Sky People, They've killed Tulkun, they've burned other villages down just a few clicks away from here"
Your face paled. "No-" you shook your head.
"You tell the Tulkun, that if they're hit by one of these they're marked for death" Jake declares to the assemblage, all the furious Metkayina who couldn't grasp the fact that he was going against their ways. "Call for me, I'll silence it. Saving their lives, that's all that matters! Saving your family! "
Tonowari stepped closer to him, looking at his people. "Tell the Tulkun"
And with that all of the villagers dispersed, most of them had started diving into the water, rushing to tell their Tulkun, the rest were getting ready for the inevitable battle that was about to come. You see Neteyam walking past you, realizing he was chasing after Lo'ak ; you were about to follow them when Ao'nung comes up to you.
"Y/N-"
"-Go warn Aiali'i, make sure he dosen't get caught up in this mess, the Sky People are ruthless, they'll stop at nothing, even if it means to harm the great balance just to get what they want-"
"Okay" He nods, taking your words into account.
"You gotta come back to me alright?" You say, almost threatening him. "You still gotta take me out on that date"
He laughed. "What is a date?"
"You know, when a guy and a girl go out, it's just the two of them and they eat and have fun and they kiss a lot... sometimes a little more than kiss"
"Ahh, I see" He hummed, nodding as he understood. "...Will we be the second option?"
As much as you wanted to giggle at that your face remained absolute. "Promise me"
"I promise you, Y/N"
"Ao'nung!" Both you and Ao'nung turn to where the voice was coming from to see Tsireya and Rotxo atop their ilus. "Come on!"
He turns to you. "I will come back, trust me"
"Okay"
You place a kiss on his lips before you turn around, running away. Ao'nung calls for his ilu and dives into the water, joining Rotxo and his sister.
"Rotxo, you owe me a week's worth of fruit" Tsireya grinned.
"I can't believe this is happenning to me" Rotxo says, shaking his head in dissapointment.
Ao'nung rolls his eyes.
Tumblr media
When you find your brothers you seem to have caught them in another fight.
"I'm not you! Okay? I'm not you! " You hear Lo'ak shout. "He's my brother! I'm going!"
"Oh he's your brother?" Neteyam asks, turning Lo'ak around. "No, I'm your brother" He explained, pointing at his chest.
"Lo'ak quit being such an ass, for the love of Eywa" you say, announcing your arrival.
He lets out a disgruntled hiss. "Look i'm going, Y/N, wether you two like it or not"
He dives into the water, making you groan in frustration and follow him too. Hinewai swimming up to you, allowing you to grab onto her neck already knowing she has to follow your brother.
You spot Kiri and Tuk on an ilu. "He's going to warn Payakan! Come on!" You urge, before plunging into the water once more.
You had chased him through a maze of aquatic fauna, dodging leaves and stems, determined to catch up to him. You surface and you see him waving at Payakan who had breached as well.
"LO'AK! COME BACK!" You bellow, just as Payakan swam closer to him.
When you see him hop onto Payakan's back, running around like a frazzled monkey, it hit you. There he was, pulling onto a tracker for dear life.
You sever your and Hinewai's bond and dive into the water, pulling yourself up on Payakan's fin and running up to Lo'ak. "Did you seriously think you can pull that off by yourself?" You ask him, raising an eyebrow.
He rolled his eyes. "You won an arm-wrestling match against me once!"
You snicker. "Eywa, don't be so bitter about it"
"Once" He widened his eyes.
You nod at the other side of the tracker. "Come on! Jimmy it out!"
Lo'ak and you wrap your fingers around the cold metal of the tracking device, tugging at it with all your might, you look up, and you see one of the ships approaching.
"Fuck!" You shout, making Lo'ak look up.
"Lo'ak! Y/N!"
You turn to see Neteyam flinging himself on the back of Payakan like he would an angtsík. "Come on bro help us out!"
Neteyam helps Ao'nung on, who immediately takes his spot next to you. "Hey"
You nod. "Hey"
You see Tsireya hop on, followed by Rotxo. "Hurry!"
Neteyam takes your shoulder, making you face him. "Call it in! Call it in!"
"What???" You shriek incredulously.
"Just do it! Call Dad now! Go!"
Tsireya takes your spot as you move away, pressing your throat comm, landing on the chanel you and your siblings used to contact your dad. "Dad-! I mean- Devil Dog! D'you read me??"
A moment passes by, you press it again. "This is Firecracker do you copy?? Devil Dog do you copy??"
Undeniable relief washed over you when you hear static on the other end. "I read you Firecracker 5 by 5!"
"We're with a Tulkun that's under attack, gunships inbound, it's- it's about two clicks out" You manage, just as everybody behind you started arguing over who wasn't pulling hard enough.
"Who's with you??"
"It's all of us! Ao'nung, Tsireya, and Rotxo too! We're at Three Brother's Rocks!"
Static. "Get to cover. Do not engage alright?? Do not engage! We're coming!"
The line goes silent before you could reply.
"Tie it off! Tie it off!"
"You skxawng what kind of knot is that???"
"Oh move over!"
Lo'ak and Ao'nung's bickering brought you back to the task at hand, you blinked, and it seemed like the ship somehow was just a mile away.
"It's getting closer!" Tsireya wailed.
"Come on! Pull!" Rotxo shouts.
Neteyam ties the end of the rope on his ilu, you dive into the water, tying the excess rope around Hinewai's body and Lo'ak gives you the signal to pull.
So you pull, it seemed almost unviable at first with 6 teenagers and 2 ilus, but you somehow managed to pull it out, sending Lo'ak, Tsireya, Rotxo, and Ao'nung into the water.
"Get out of here!"
"Y/N, give me that" Neteyam ordered, pointing at the pinger in your hand.
"There's no way in hell Neteyam"
"It will be fine!" He assured you. "They are coming- there is no time!"
You give him an infuriated hiss, almost a grunt, before you toss the pinger towards him.
"Go!" Neteyam shouts at the others.
"We'll draw them off, just go!" You say to them. Your eyes meet Ao'nung's, he gives you a knowing look before he dives under the water with Rotxo and Kiri.
"Okay!" Lo'ak replies.
You and Neteyam set off, feeling like torpedoes underneath the water as Hinewai propelled you around the coral and the marine life. Not even 5 minutes later a cannon sets off in the water, disorienting your ilus, Neteyam drops the pinger as his ilu jolts in fear to which you grab.
"I have a plan" you signed under the water.
"No, no plan" He signed back.
You rolled your eyes. "Just let me do this, big brother"
"Fine" He signed half-heartedly.
You set off once more, opposite to where Neteyam was going. Hinewai swims fast, faster than you've ever seen her swim before, another cannon drops and explodes, Hinewai yelps in pain but you tell her to keep going. Only when it started raining cannons was when you were forced to drop the pinger and set out to find your siblings.
You take cover behind coral reefs, making sure you were still hidden when you spot subs in the water, all moving to a consecutive direction. You try and beat them there, knowing that if you followed them then you'd have a good chance of getting to your siblings before they did. Swimming through a forest of aquatic fauna, you tried your best to steer clear of any rays of light, sticking close to the ground until you bump into Tsireya, which spooked her and her ilu.
A loud mechanical whining came from behind you, both you and Tsireya turn around to see a sub coming straight at you, and you two zoomed away. Trying to lose them through the labyrinth of stems, as gigantous leaves constantly slammed you in the face.
"Go the other way!" You signed rapidly. You see her nod and you go your own directions.
Luckily the sub chose to pursue you instead of her, Hinewai made hard rights, hard lefts, almost causing you to fall off. Just then, another sub appears in front of you, blinding you with its stark white light, you don't turn away when it comes straight at you. Even Hinewai was about to bail you assured her to trust you.
Only at the last second did you maneuver her upwards, sending the two subs crashing into eachother, glass and metal flying everywhere, water gushing in their machines forcing them to flee.
You couldn't help but grin as Hinewai swam away.
Only when you spot Lo'ak swimming towards an airbell was when you disconnect your queue from Hinewai and follow him in, taking in a huge intake of air as him and Tuk screamed in fear.
"Jesus!" You exclaimed. "Are you guys okay??"
"Yeah, we are" Lo'ak answered.
"Where's Neteyam??" Tuk wonders.
"I lost him a while ago, we were trying to get the ships off your back, we ditched the pinger a couple miles that way"
Just then, Tsireya appears beside you, and before you were going to ask her if she was alright or not, the expression on her face says it all. "They're coming!"
"Okay, deep breath" you instruct Tuk as all of you dove back in the water. Swimming out of the airbell and away from a sub when another of their machines popped up in front of you, causing you to swim the other way, it was useless without your ilus and you were right. A net traps you, Tsireya, and Tuk. As they try and wriggle out, you fumble with your dagger trying to cut all of you free, and you succeed, you manage to rip a big enough hole open and slide out.
"Tuk come on!" You shout, holding out for her hand before a goddamn íkran dives into the water and grabs the net with its claws, pulling all of you out of the water making you slip. Everybody screams in fear as Lo'ak tries to hold on to you. But he couldn't keep you on and cut the others free at the same time.
"Lo'ak let go!"
"No! Just hang on! Please!"
The íkran dropped the net onto the ship's deck, all of you scrambled to your feet. You throw your dagger past one of the avatars in camo, you manage to slice her forearm open as you pull your biggest dagger out, your ceremonial dagger, swinging it at anyone who dared to come close.
"You little cunt!" The recombinant who you injured hissed, her blood splattering onto the floor. Her expression the last thing you saw before you were forced on your knees and onto the ground.
"Drop your weapon!"
"Get fucked!" You shout, before a large combat boot stepped on your hand, forcing you to let go of your dagger.
"Stop it! Stop! don't hurt them!" You turn your head, and amongst the legs that blocked your vision you see Spider getting held back by a few other humans.
"Y/N!" He exclaimed. "Let her go! That's my sister you fuckers! Let her go!"
"Yeah right" One of them sneered.
"Spider!" You shout in relief.
"Y/N! it's gunna be okay!"
The avatar riding the íkran that plucked you out of the water hopped off his banshee and pointed a finger at Spider. "Get back to the bridge, keep him there!"
Once he turns his focus towards you and your brother ; you hiss at him, bearing your fangs.
"Yeah, I remember you two" He chides, his focus bouncing from you to Lo'ak. "Cuff 'em to the rails, all of 'em!"
You were forced to stand up, you fought back as you were pulled towards the rails of the ship.
"On the ground, come on" The recom behind you says, oddly calm. When you would not submit he kicked the back of your knees, causing you to fall down. When he binds your wrists you reach out to bite his forearm, the recom laughs, as do the others around him.
"Feisty this one" He laughed.
"Told you they bite"
Up ahead, you see about a dozen, no, more than a dozen skimwings round the corner of a boulder. "Na'vi inbound! Spread out!"
"Dad!" Tuk cried.
Quaritch, you asssume, Spider's father who had come back as a recom, tore Lo'ak's throat com off his neck, making him hiss. They do the same to you, making you watch as the recom guarding you dangles it in front of your face before keeping it inside his pocket.
"Jake, tell your friends to stand down, you want your kids back? You come out alone" He spoke. "You know better than to test my resolve"
Just then, you feel the cold metal of a gun against the back of your head, making you flinch and hiss in both fear and anger, your breathing became ragged, you try and shake the gun away but the recom behind you just jabs it deeper into your head.
You knew your dad could see everything.
"I took you under my wing Jake, you betrayed me, you killed your own, good men, good women. I will not hesitate to execute your kids"
A moment passes by, your knees were starting to ache, the gun felt like it was about to go off any second now, like if you were to speak up it would blow your brains out.
"Offer's fixing to expire, what's it gunna be?"
You see a lone skimwing breaking off from the group, the rider, his skin was shades darker than any of the ones he left behind him.
"Easy shot"
Quatitch sets the gun down. "You hit him now they attack"
Suddenly, Payakan shoots out from the water, landing onto the ship, taking down several men. There were a few foolish enough to shoot at a Tulkun, it was almost like child's play to him, dragging his flippers across the deck, sending humans flying into the water, smacking them to death with his fins. He deflects a bomb, causing it to bounce back on the ship and explode. Now that the recoms were occupied with trying to kill the incoming Na'vi, they pretty much left you alone.
You spot your dagger, still lying on the ground in between the chaos, if you just managed to grab it with your tail...
The ship had started moving beneath you before you could even make a move, colliding with a rock formation making everything on the boat to fly, including you, your siblings, and Tsireya. Your dagger slides closer to you but you were too late, it slides past the cracks of the grills, falling into the water.
So you start pulling at the cuffs, knowing it wouldn't work but you would have preferred to die trying.
You watch as two ilus leap out of the water, their riders landing on the boat.
"Neteyam!" Tuk squealed.
"Need some help?" He asks running up to Tuk to cut her cuffs off. You turn to your right to see Ao'nung cutting Tsireya free, telling her to leave, he moves onto you and a grin comes to your face.
"I leave you alone for 30 minutes and this is what happens?" He wonders, digging the knife across the thick cloth.
"I like to keep life interesting, what can I say?" You quipped.
He laughed through his nose, cutting you free.
"Come on, let's go" Neteyam urges. You watch Lo'ak take a gun off the floor.
"What the hell are you doing?" He dosen't answer you. "Lo'ak we gotta go!"
"Spider's still on the ship" He reminds you.
Spider was still on the ship.
"Shit" you groan, you turn to Neteyam. "We gotta go back for him"
Neteyam scratches the side of his head. "Y/N..."
"Neteyam please, he's my brother" You asked. "He'd do the same thing if any of us were in trouble"
He knew you were right. He looks at Lo'ak, nodding. "Let's go"
You run up to Ao'nung who had his spear at the ready. "I'm not asking you to come with us, you don't know him, it isn't your fight"
"No way I'm letting you go again"
"I think I can handle myself" You state.
"Yes, clearly" He says, motioning at the shitshow that was behind you.
"Y/N let's go!" You turn around, looking at Neteyam and Lo'ak about to enter the hull of the ship.
You turn back around to face Ao'nung but he plants a kiss on your lips, a few seconds shorter than what you preferred.
"There, now we are even"
You try and bite down a smile. "Go!"
With that he leaves.
You turn around to face your siblings, picking up an assault rifle from the floor, tossing the empty magazine out and replacing it with a new one.
"On my six" You say, leading the group into the ship.
"When did-" Neteyam whispers to Lo'ak.
"-I wish I knew" He shrugged.
You had ran up and down the ship in search of Spider, scaling the pipes bolted to the ceiling when Neteyam spotted him being escorted out of the ship with a bunch of humans. All 3 of you drop to one of the platforms, waiting for the right moment to ambush them, leaping down the steps. Neteyam first, taking two down with his dagger, next Lo'ak with one of their guns. Spider landing punches left and right, smashing their oxygen masks and flinging them across the ship. One of the humans managed to knock the rifle out of your hands, resorting you to fight with your fists, ripping off their oxygen masks too, and at the last second scrambling to get your hands on the rifle as one of the humans pointed his gun at Lo'ak's head.
Two shots, one to the neck, one to the chest.
He drops to the ground with a thud, you stare at his body, gagging on his own blood, convulsing like he had been electrocuted, until he stopped.
"Baby sis let's go" says Neteyam.
"Y/N, come on" says Lo'ak, taking your hand, leading you out of there.
"Thanks guys" Spider says as all of you run to leave the ship. Lo'ak's ears perk up as he looks toward the distance, you turn your head and you see a couple of recoms pulling their guns out. Lo'ak and you do the same, aiming your guns at them but Neteyam snaps at you to take cover as bullets start raining down.
All 4 of you hide behind a wall, Neteyam shouting at Lo'ak to give him the gun, he starts firing at them as well, empty shells flying everywhere. "Go! Go!" He yelled over the gunfire.
"Come on! This way!" Said Spider, hopping over the rails and into the water, followed by Lo'ak. Neteyam half expected you to follow them but when you started shooting at the recoms as they were reloading he pulls you aside.
"What do you think you're doing??? Go! I've got this!"
"And let you take all the glory? Sure" you reply, ejecting the empty magazine to load one back in, he shakes his head and chuckles before you started firing at them, taking cover when bullets started bouncing off the wall.
You urge Neteyam to go, he hesitates before he leaps over the rails, you start hitting them with everything you could before you abandon the gun and follow Neteyam down, falling rather awkwardly as you feel the side of your stomach start to ache. When you hit the water, flames engulf your body as you struggled up to the surface, trying to catch your breath, only for the bitter stinging to keep you from breathing properly.
"That was insane cuz!" Lo'ak cajoled, high-fiving with Spider.
Tsireya and Ao'nung arrive on their ilus, urging you to hop on. Lo'ak and Spider swim towards them, even you who managed to ignore the growing pain from your torso.
"Come on bro!" Lo'ak says, he and Soider stopped swimming as they looked behind you. You do the same, seeing Neteyam wince and groan, a hand placed on his shoulderblade. You make your way towards him, struggling to keep him upright when you yourself couldn't float properly.
"Bro are- are you okay?"
He spits out salt water from his mouth as he bobbed up and down. "Baby sis I'm- I'm shot"
"Shit!" Lo'ak exclaimed as his face visibly paled.
He and Spider start paddling towards you and Neteyam, it was a joint effort in order to keep your oldest brother from not drowning, they guide him towards Tsireya's ilu, hauling him up and speeding away, leaving you and Ao'nung as he tried to heave you onto his ilu. His eyes widened as he saw your chest, gleaming red.
"You're- you're bleeding" He stammered.
"This- this blood isn't mine, J-just follow them" you managed, trying to keep your wound hidden from him. When the ilu starts to move you feel a surge of nausea wash over you like a tidal wave, you struggle to hold onto his waist as your grip threatened to loosen. Black spots ate away at your vision but you blink at a rapid speed, trying to get rid of them.
Your eyes widen at the feeling of your blood seep past your fingers and drip down onto the ilu's back. Shit. Shit. Shit.
"Keep him up!" You raise your head from Ao'nung's shoulder blade, hearing Lo'ak's cries of distress amongst the fuzziness and the long line of crescendo buzzing in your ears.
"Watch his wound! Watch his wound!" That sounded like your dad, you blinked again and you see all of them on the rock before you, huddled around Neteyam as Lo'ak applied pressure to his wound.
A/N: im sorry about this (then again not really) put your volume up by 4 clicks!
The ilu stops moving, Ao'nung was first to get off and he offers out a hand for you to take like he always did. You take it with your free hand and he pulls you up too quickly, suddenly the world spins off its axis, blinding pain shoots out from your wound as it stretches and widens, your knees buckled and you fall into him.
He staggers back in shock, helping you back onto your feet. His eyes widen as he gets a good look at you, moving your hair away from your eyes, cupping eitherside of your face. "You're shaking Y/N"
You managed to shake your head at him, feeling your teeth chatter. " 'M fine, 'm fine " you mumbled.
Ao'nung should have never let you walk into that ship without him, he knows that now... now that he sees the lower back of his ilu coated with fresh crimson. No.
"No, no, no" He exclaimed eyes wide, and there it was, a shivering hand tightly clasped over a dark red rupture in your stomach. He tried to take your hand away from where it had covered your wound but you would not let him. "Y/N, come on! Let me see it!"
You shook your head, feeling hot streams of tears flow down your face. "Mm-mm" you shook your head. "No" you say.
You were too weak to fight him, he managed to pry your fingers away from your bullet wound, you were bleeding out too fast, the wound had been too deep.
All of a sudden, you sink to the floor, taking Ao'nung with you. "No, no, no, Eywa please" He pleads, choking back on a sob as he struggled to pull you up with him. "Please no, no, not you, not you" He cried, eyes going glossy.
"I can't- I can't stand" you say, before you start coughing and wheezing as he holds onto your hand. "'Nung, 'Nung, don't- don't go, d-don't leave"
"I won't, I won't" He tells you, placing a bloodied hand over your face. "I promised you that remember??"
"What the hell is going on here??? " That was your dad again. It only took him long enough for him to realize you were bleeding your guts out.
Ao'nung was absolutely petrified. "Toruk Makto please- please! she is bleeding out, I don't- I don't know what-"
Your dad scoops you up into his arms, bringing you towards even ground. "D-Dad" You choked, before you dissolve into a coughing fit once more, wincing and crying as it only made you bleed out more. "Dad- D-Dad"
"Shhh, no, no, no, you gotta stay with me baby" setting you down on the rock. Ao'nung almost scrapes his knees, dropping to the ground to hold your hand.
"Fuck" You hear Lo'ak breathe as he and the others crowd you, even Neteyam whose shoulder was coated in his own blood struggled to get close to you.
"We gotta move your hand away from your stomach" Your Dad says, trying to take your hand away from your wound but you wouldn't budge, you didn't want him to see how bad it was. "No!" You exclaimed, before doubling over in pain, your breathing reduced to uneven catch-breaths, hacking your lungs out as it struggled to allow air in, some invisible plug clogging your airways. You couldn't breathe.
"Come on honey, come on, get your hand out of the way please" He practically begged, before you allowed him to take your hand off. You look at his face when he sees your wound. You see his face after he turns you over to see if the bullet went through you or not. It did.
You sniffed back your tears, coughing. "I- I don't- I don't w-wanna die" You sob.
Your dad shook his head. "You're not gunna die, you're not gunna die, just- just hang on! "
The familiar squawk of your mother's íkran was heard. You hear a pitter patter of steps and your mother appears in your line of sight, blurry and beautiful. She wedges herself in between Neteyam and Tsireya, was she shocked? furious? you couldn't really tell.
"I gotta put pressure on it okay?" Your Dad informs you, before two strong hands push down on your wound, you shoot up from your spot, wheezing and whimpering as you tried your best to get his hands away, clawing at his arms, anything to stop him. "I know honey, I know! I know! I know it hurts!"
You choke on your own spit, wheezing in pure agony as he guided you back down on the floor. "I- I- I don't wanna d-die, Da-Dad, pl-please" you rasped, blinking back tears, feeling the weight of the world on your chest, you wanted to stand up, you wanted to go, you wanted to leave, just go anywhere, you didn't wanna die here, not here. "I don't- I don't- wanna die y-yet"
"You won't honey, you won't-!"
"Da-Dad i'm-i'm sorry, i'm- s-sorry" You gasped. "Don't- don't be ma-mad, do-don't hate me"
"I'm not mad, I'm not mad, you don't have to be sorry for anything Litebrite" He shook his head, you look at everybody around you, Lo'ak, Neteyam, your Mother, Tsireya, Spider, Ao'nung, they were all crying for you. "Dad isn't mad- he isn't mad at you, okay? Dad can never hate you"
A tear falls down your cheek. "Da- Dad i'm- i'm tired Dad"
You see him lunge closer to you. "No, no, no, you gotta fight this honey, you're strong! you're strong! You're my strong little lady remember? Remember that? "
"I want to go home" You winced, looking up at the sky as eclipse was starting to fall on you.
"Okay, Okay, we're going" He assured you, Lo'ak and Neteyam nodding in agreement. "We're going right now"
You felt heavy. It was just too immense, too much to carry, you couldn't do it all. You were just a little kid. As your heartbeat slowed down, so did the world, your mind quieted. You look back at your father, a million apologies, a million words you yearned to tell him before the clock stopped ticking, so you opened your mouth, one last thing, you thought, one last thing.
"Dad," you began. "Dad I-"
And then you were still.
They stand and watch the exact moment the words die on your pale lips, your amber eyes dilate and move to the sky, taking your last breath, a shudder, and your heart silenced forever.
"Y/N" Your mother whispered, your name barely rolling off her lips. "No... no, no, no" She says like some broken record. "No! No! Y/N! Y/N! No!" Jake has to hold her back as she wailed your name, over and over, as if it was some incantation to bring you back. She cradles your lifeless body in her arms, all limp, all cold, all quiet. "Oh Great Mother no! Great Mother please! No!"
"Baby sis... come on" Lo'ak urged you, when once before he called out to you, you would run after him and nag his ear off to not pull whatever stunt he was about to do, but now, you weren't moving for him at all. He looks at his hands, drenched in your blood, just like that night by the river, one where he had thought he lost you forever. But no. It was just some sick practice run. Now he knows there was no fighting chance for you to wake up, to come back, not like before. Where he had hoped and prayed for Eywa to answer his prayers, to bring you back. She had listened to him once before but he fears that his pleas were nothing but an incoherent string of words to her now.
Netayam couldn't believe it. If he had just let you go down the rails first this wouldn't have happened. You would have walked away with a gnarly bullet wound on your shoulder, yes, but it was better than having to die from one. You needed to tell your children how you had gotten it, why you had gotten it, you needed to grow old, and die in your bed, not here, not now, not when you were a million miles away from home, from the forest. He failed you again. His mind was flooded with should haves, and could haves, and would haves, that was the worst part, he was pitting the blame on himself, something he always did, something you could never get him to move past. His baby sister once full of mischief and selflessness, gone.
Spider didn't even feel the tears falling down his face until it had pooled under his chin. You two were orphans of the war, you had no one, while also having eachother, it was the irony of it all that kept you two tethered for life. Life. The only border it couldn't cross. Not when you had moved to Awa'atlu with the Sully's, not when he had been held captive by the recoms, but when you had finally died, died like his parents, his human parents, like your mother, possibly your father. He looked up at the sky, at the stars, just like you two would do when you were sick, when you were suffering, lying down on your bouncy mattress in the dark, talking about the most nonsensical things while laughing your little heads off, he swears he could feel it again, how it felt to be in that dark room with just the stars and eachother.
Ao'nung. Oh Ao'nung. That poor little boy who had grown up believing he was going to become a fearless Olo'eyktan one day just like his father, beloved by all, seen by all. For he would be the one who would bind all of the islands together and lead them to a greater triumph, a thousand islands, a stronger nation, a village, a people. But he was wrong, he wanted to be Tsahík, he wanted to heal the sick, to cure the ailing, he has seen how his mother does it, and he wanted to be like her when he was big enough, he wanted to know what rush it would feel once his people come to him, saying they were healed, that they were okay, that he helped them be better.
He had grown up believing that he would fall in love with a pretty Metkayina girl, meek and graceful and refined, with teal skin, curly ebony locks, and aquamarine eyes he would get lost in.
But no. He had to go and fall for a raging wildfire that was you, impetuous, brash, loud, with blazing gold eyes that dare bested the rising sun, braided locks, and deep azure skin, the one that made fun of him, that cussed at him, that pulled a knife to his neck. He never understood why. He never will. Not even when he gets older. Not even when the ends of his eyes start to wrinkle. He never would.
After saving your sisters, you were laid to rest the following night.
Neteyam had given you his rider's mask, remembering when you were younger, when you longed for one even if you had no íkran to tame, it seemed so foolish at the time. Lo'ak gave you his feathered arm band, it was one of the first things you had given him when you started to learn how to weave properly, it wasn't the best work you've done, you were always so shit at weaving but he still kept wearing it. Kiri gave you the friendship bracelet you and her made one stormy night, she had kept yours and given you hers. Tuk gave you her favorite Toruk toy, the toy that had been passed down from one Sully child to another, since you had joined the family so late she figured it was time for your turn.
You were buried with the necklace Ao'nung had given to you. It was the only item of yours they had kept on you.
Ao'nung did not have much of a say when it came to burying you with your belongings like Neteyam did.
Neteyam fought for you to be buried along with that necklace, knowing he was the one that interrupted that moment with you and Ao'nung on the beach.
When it had been time to visit you, Jake took Neytiri's hand in his as they connected their queues to the glowing lilac venules of the Metkayina's Spirit Tree.
Jake flutters his eyes open again. He takes in the distinct amount of trees looming over him, the bioluminescence of the moss underneath his feet lighting up his way into the forest. He was back in the forest.
He notices he was armed with an AK-47, the orange flames coming from the torches of the Omaticayans on direhorses blazing past the gaps of the trees, there was chaos, a scattered chorus of galloping causing the ground to shake. But he dosen't see you.
Where were you?
"Y/N? Y/N?" He calls out, whipping his head around.
No answer.
"Y/N?? WHERE ARE YOU??" He tried again, beginning to walk through the forest, his pace rapidly picking up as he pushes past leaves, past shrubs, he rounds boulders and he still cannot find you. "COME ON Y/N MAKE A NOISE FOR ME, WHERE ARE YOU??"
He was running now. And he remembers, you haven't been seen since this afternoon, Neteyam and Lo'ak had been busy training with the hunting party, Kiri and Tuk were with Mo'at all day, he thought you had been with them, they thought you had been with him.
You've been gone for 6 hours.
He was dizzy, like the world was about to turn on its side and he would lose his balance. "Y/N?? Y/N?? COME ON- Y/N?? I CAN'T SEE YOU BABY WHERE ARE YOU?? JUST COME OUT PLEASE?!?" The forest was just fleeting swipes of colors to him now, branches were scraping against his azure skin, drawing blood.
He hears the subtle crying first, he searches high and low, his heartbeat threatened to leap out of his chest baring his bones and he sees you on the ground, shrouded by the extended leaves, covered by the boulders, shielding you away. Like you had been hiding from something, or was it someone?
He gets low, slinking past the fauna to get to you, he reaches out for your shoulder gently and the sudden contact with his skin makes you scream and leap away.
"It's just me baby, it's just me!" he assures, holding up his palms as the forest stands and watches as if a bomb had been set off, your wails bouncing against the tree trunks. "I'm not here to hurt you, baby- it's just me! see? Just me" you heard him tell you, his arms outstretched, beckoning you to walk towards him.
You try and form a sentence, you did, even if all that left your mouth were a muddled set of murmurs you ran straight into him, dropping to your knees as he embraces you and you let yourself dissolve in an irrational wailing mess. Snot and rears running down your face as you linked your sinewy arms around his neck and refused to let go.
Jake adjusts his position so you were sitting on his lap. "You've been gone for 6 hours- 6! I come back with your mother to find out your grandmother hasn't seen you all afternoon?? What the hell were you thinking??? Running off into the forest?? Do you know dangerous it is out here??? And you decide to stay out here till eclipse??? Do you have a goddamn death wish or something kid??" His voice cracked in anger as he yells at you in fear and relief.
You pull away to face him. "I'm sorry! I'm so-sorry! I was- I was following the woodsp-sprites and I didn't kno-know how to get b-back, I tried u-using the tricks you taught me but it g-got dark, and I heard the- the viperwolves ho-howling-"
Jake's beady amber eyes widened. He grabs your face with his large hands. "Did they catch you??? Did you get hurt???"
You shook your head, your tears falling down to his lap. "They didn't see me"
"They coulda smelled you all the same," He insists. "You were too lucky to have dodged a viperwolf attack, you know how fast those suckers are? no, not yet, But you could've."
"I know" You sobbed, your shoulders jerking up at odd intervals as you hiccuped. Keeping your eyes down. "But I just wanted to show you I could do it"
He frowns softly. "Do what??"
You finally look up at him. "Be a proper Avatar! An Avatar that can run fast and climb fast and jump far," You ejaculated. "I heard stories from Uncle Norm and Uncle Max about when you were still new to your Avatar body, how even if you kept falling off your ass you still kept on going, how you were chosen by Eywa, how you became one of the people and then you became Toruk Makto, and I just- I just wanted to be like you!" You finally shout.
Jake dosen't notice the tears that had been falling out his eyes and down to the apples of his cheeks.
He blinks, and suddenly you were older, defined face, longer limbs. "I- I couldn't help it! All the stories made me feel like I'll never be as good as you, the way that they think I'll become as great as you one day?? I figured if I worked hard enough and I trained hard enough then maybe it'll mean something! And I see it in your eyes everyday that sometimes you wish I could have done more, that I could have been good at archery like Neteyam is or how good at flying Lo'ak is or how skilled Kiri is with healing??"
You grit your teeth, frowning as the tears would not stop coming down. "Everyday I break my back trying to live up to you because I just want you to be-" You stop yourself and hesitate. "I just wanted you to be proud!"
You stop, catching your breath. "I just want you to be proud of me Dad! "
Jake swallows hard and places a hand on your shoulder. "Kid I've always been proud of you, alright?" He manages before another hot tear escapes his eye, realizing now was his time to set things right between you and him. "And- and I know I barely show it, that was on me, It was my fault for not letting you know it sooner, but never in a single second of my life had I not been so proud of the person you grew up to be ; I was too scared to let you know it because I thought it wasn't what you all needed. That if I went all tight with the five of you then maybe I'd choke out the recklessness out of you kids but I was wrong, especially with you"
You were startled.
"I spent my whole life hating my father for not being there to listen to me properly only to turn into the very man I never wanted to become. It was like fighting fire with fire, all this time I had thought it had been working but I was just pushing you farther away from me, I never wanted that"
"-but I'm right here," You tell him in a small voice, grabbing his hand, it was so much smaller compared to his, you were little again."I'm right here"
"I know Litebrite" He chuckles, his shoulders jerking up and down. "I've let you down, I'm sorry"
You swallow the ball that was forming in your throat as you wipe your eyes dry.
"None of this woulda happen if I had just listened to you more, if I had just been there, if I was just better at being a father than a squad leader maybe if I did then- then maybe everything coulda been different"
"Maybe" You shrugged, sniffing.
He points at his chest using the hand you had weaved your fingers through. "The blame's on me honey, this is my fault so just blame me"
You shook your head, teardrops falling onto your lap. "I don't wanna keep blaming you anymore Dad"
And you fit so perfect in his arms as you reached in to embrace him, he did the same, squeezing your tiny frame as he planted kisses on your hair, rubbing his hand on your back.
He remembers why this was how you came to him, why this was the memory Eywa had chosen for him to relive again. It was the first time you had called him Dad.
You hiccuped, wiping your eyes dry with the back of your hands. "I'm sorry Dad"
"You don't got anything to be sorry for kiddo"
You pull away from him once more. "But the Viperwolves-"
"You don't gotta worry about them, I'm here now, alright? I'm right here, I'll keep you safe" He says to you, pulling your hands away to dry your face himself.
"I wanna go home now" You tell him. "Can we go home?"
He couldn't help but let out a wet chuckle, ducking his head as his chest panged with unfathomable pain. "Okay, let's go home"
And so he stands up with you in his arms as he brings you out of the darkness. "So you were out here for the entire afternoon and not a single Viperwolf laid it's claws on you?"
"Uh-huh"
"Must've been scared of you"
You perk up instantly. "You think so?"
He nods. "I know so kid, wouldn't expect anything else from my strong little lady"
You give him a shrewd smile before dissolving into breathy giggles. "I'm your strong little lady Dad?"
"Uh-huh, cuz you've got a strong heart like me and your mom, nothing gets past us"
"If I've got a strong heart then... then I won't be able to die!" You say, lighting up. "Ha! I'm going to live forever!"
He stops walking and gives you a look only to be met by a pair of innocent amber eyes glimmering in the darkness. He forces himself to nod. "You won't die for a long time honey, because Na'vi? They live up to 180"
"180??? No way!"
"Yes way" Jake countered.
"You think i'll live that long Dad?"
He gives you a smile as he senses Neytiri creep up on the both of you, donning a bittersweet smile with glassy eyes. "Course you will, Litebrite" He replies, swallowing the ball that had somehow lodged itself in his windpipe, your eyes like a beacon light in the otherwise dim forest, big and full of wonder, the promise that there will always be light to pull him out of the darkness that dared swallow him whole, your smile alone being able to light the way. His little Litebrite.
"Cool"

a/n: [taps into mic] slipping through my fingers all the time, I try to capture every minute, the feeling in it, slipping through my fingers all the time, do I really see what's in her mind, each time I think I'm close to knowing she keeps on growing, slipping through my fingers all the time...
so I guess that's that, thanks for coming along with me on this wild, depressive, frustrating, sappy, confusing, ride. I had so much fun writing this series for real, not really sure if I'm gunna be writing any more series in the time being but we'll see, til then, make sure to drink a lot of water and take care, mwa :)) 🪼🫧🪸

A devious smile sits on your face while you watch Ao’nung squirm and fidget underneath you. His hips jerk and buck dying for friction. You move your hips back and forth lazily just enough to keep him hard and twitching inside of you, but nowhere near enough to help him finish yet.
“Please, yawne. I need…need you t-to move…” he pleas with you throwing his head back. This was torture for him and you knew it. But that was what made it hot.
“Mmm, I can’t hear you, my love.” You tease turning up your vibrator that sat against your pulsing clit making you moan louder.
Ao’nung watches you with drunk eyes that are just on the verge of watering.
“I-I need to cum!” his voice cracks just the slightest bit and it makes you bite your lip.
“Hmmm…” you pretend to think about it for a moment starting to lift your hips just about an inch finally giving him a glimmer of hope. “Nope.” You quickly sit back down and rip away his chance at real relief opting instead to rub the head of your vibrator in circles on your clit.
He lets out a pained groan and his whole body shudders desperate for you to give him what he needs.
“Please, please, sevin!” he cries out.
You reach out one hand to hold his face and make him look at you. His eyes are glistening with tears that are starting to form and his parted lips spill panting breaths. His skin is slick with sweat and his hair is in messy, loose curls on his head.
“God, you’re so pretty when you beg.” You coo at him. It was true, the sight of him pleading beneath you and desperate to fuck you senseless made heat ignite in your belly and the knot in your core was ready to snap at any second. “I’ll give you what you need soon, love.”
“No, I need you now” he whines. His hands sneak their way up to hold your hips to try and make you move on his own. You quickly smack his hands away causing him to groan again.
It was getting to be overwhelming for Ao’nung. He was always the impatient type. Cockwarming was fine for him when you’d go to sleep together and he wanted to be extra close to you, but right now, he was fighting for his life trying to reach his release. And you were making it hell for him. It was already a tight fit for him inside of you, but with you using your vibrator, not only could he also feel the gentle rumbling from inside of you, it would also make your walls clench and pulse around him even tighter. He was starting to feel delirious from his need.
“I’ll do anything. Whatever you want! Just please move!” he says letting his head fall back against your headboard in defeat.
“Anything?”
His ears immediately perk up hearing your tone and he looks at you like how a puppy looks at a treat. “Yes. Yes! Anything! Just please let me cum!”
“Tell me how good it feels and maybe I’ll give you what you want.”
You didn’t have to tell him twice. “You feel so good, yawne. So warm and wet. Mmf and you’re squeezing me so tight. I want to cum inside of you so bad.”
“Ahhh…fuck…” you moan listening to him. “Ahh, I’m so close, Nung. More!”
His hands slide up to grope at your tits and tease your nipples between his fingertips. “You’re so perfect. My beautiful mate feels so good. I love having my cock inside you.”
“Mmm, Ao’nung!” your head spins when your orgasm finally crashes into you. Your whole body shakes on top of him and he sucks in a sharp breath feeling the constant fluttering of your walls around his dick. A sinful moan falls from your mouth and you finally pull the vibrator away before you scream.
Both of your chests heave dramatically catching your breath. When you look at Ao’nung’s face, his eyes are still pleading with you waiting for permission to take what he wants. You just smile at him and press a messy kiss to his lips.
“Take it.”
In seconds, his hands are on your ass and his hips are fucking into you wildly knocking the wind out of your smaller body.
“You are mean, you know that?”
“Shut up, you loved it.”
