The 2024 TOSCARS
(Tarra's Oscars)
One note up front that will become relevant almost immediately: released in the US in April, 2024, I am counting Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimera as a 2024 film. It was, technically, actually in consideration at the 2023 Oscars.

Special audience award unexpectedly granted last night however by a friend at the Oscars watch party who, when we reached this category in the show, said she wanted to shout out Conclave with the line in my own Letterboxd review: "you could hear everything those cryptic bitches were up to!"
After the break: performances, scripts, editing, direction, and picture

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
April 5, 2023
Heather Cox Richardson
In yesterday’s election in Wisconsin, the two candidates represented very different futures for the country. One candidate for the state supreme court, Daniel Kelly, had helped politicians to gerrymander the state to give Republicans an iron lock on the state assembly and was backed by antiabortion Republicans. The other, Janet Protasiewicz, promised to stand behind fair voting maps and the protection of reproductive rights. Wisconsin voters elected Protasiewicz by an overwhelming eleven points in a state where elections are usually decided by a point or so. Kelly reacted with an angry, bitter speech. “I wish that in a circumstance like this I would be able to concede to a worthy opponent,” he said. “But I do not have a worthy opponent to which I can concede.” Yesterday’s vote in Wisconsin reinforces the polling numbers that show how overwhelmingly popular abortion rights and fair voting are, and it seems likely to throw the Republican push to suppress voting into hyperdrive before the 2024 election. Since the 1980s, Republicans have pushed the idea of “ballot integrity” or, later, “voter fraud” to justify voter suppression. That cry began in 1986, when Republican operatives, realizing that voters opposed Reagan’s tax cuts, launched a “ballot integrity” initiative that they privately noted “could keep the black vote down considerably.” That effort to restrict the vote is now a central part of Republican policy. Together with Documented, an investigative watchdog and journalism project, The Guardian today published the story of the attempt by three leading right-wing election denial groups to restrict voting rights in Republican-dominated states by continuing the lie that voting fraud is rampant. The Guardian’s story, by Ed Pilkington and Jamie Corey, explores a two-day February meeting in Washington organized by the right-wing Heritage Foundation and attended by officials from 13 states, including the chief election officials of Indiana, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. At the meeting, participants learned about auditing election results, litigation, and funding to challenge election results. Many of the attendees and speakers are associated with election denial. Since the 2020 election, Republican-dominated states have passed “election reform” measures that restrict the vote; those efforts are ongoing. On Thursday alone, the Texas Senate advanced a number of new restrictions. In the wake of high turnout among Generation Z Americans, who were born after 1996 and are more racially and ethnically diverse than their elders, care deeply about reproductive and LGBTQ rights, and want the government to do more to address society’s ills, Republican legislatures are singling out the youth vote to hamstring. That determination to silence younger Americans is playing out today in Tennessee, where a school shooting on March 28 in Nashville killed six people, including three 9-year-olds. The shooting has prompted protesters to demand that the legislature honor the will of the people by addressing gun safety, but instead, Republicans in the legislature have moved to expel three Democratic lawmakers who approached the podium without being recognized to speak—a breach of House rules—and led protesters in chants calling for gun reform. As Republicans decried the breach by Representatives Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones, and Justin Pearson, protestors in the galleries called out, “Fascists!” Republican efforts to gain control did not end there. On Twitter today, Johnson noted that she had “just had a visit from the head of HR and the House ethics lawyer,” who told her “that if I am expelled, I will lose my health benefits,” but the ethics lawyer went on to explain “that in one case, a member who was potentially up for expulsion decided to resign because if you resign, you maintain your health benefits.” The echoes of Reconstruction in that conversation are deafening. In that era, when the positions of the parties were reversed, southern Democrats used similar “persuasion” to chase Republican legislators out of office. When that didn’t work, of course, they also threatened the physical safety of those who stood in the way of their absolute control of politics. On Saturday night, someone fired shots into the home of the man who founded and runs the Tennessee Holler, a progressive news site. Justin Kanew was covering the gun safety struggle in Tennessee. He wrote: “This violence has no place in a civilized society and we are thankful no one was physically hurt. The authorities have not completed their investigation and right now we do not know for sure the reason for this attack. We urge the Williamson County Sheriff’s office to continue to investigate this crime and help shed light on Saturday’s unfortunate events and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. In the meantime, our family remains focused on keeping our children healthy and safe.” The anger coming from losing candidate Kelly last night, and his warning that “this does not end well….[a]nd I wish Wisconsin the best of luck because I think it's going to need it,” sure sounded like those lawmakers in the Reconstruction years who were convinced that only people like them should govern. The goal of voter suppression, control of statehouses, and violence—then and now—is minority rule. Today’s Republican Party has fallen under the sway of MAGA Republicans who advocate Christian nationalism despite its general unpopularity; on April 3, Hungarian president Viktor Orbán, who has destroyed true democracy in favor of “Christian democracy” in his own country, cheered Trump on and told him to “keep on fighting.” Like Orbán, today's Republicans reject the principles that underpin democracy, including the ideas of equality before the law and separation of church and state, and instead want to impose Christian rule on the American majority. Their conviction that American “tradition” focuses on patriarchy rather than equality is a dramatic rewriting of our history, and it has led to recent attacks on LGBTQ Americans. In Kansas today, the legislature overrode Democratic governor Laura Kelly’s veto of a bill banning transgender athletes who were assigned male at birth from participating in women’s sports. Kansas is the twentieth state to enact such a policy, and when it goes into effect, it will affect just one youth in the state. Yesterday, Idaho governor Brad Little signed a law banning gender-affirming care for people under 18, and today Indiana governor Eric Holcomb did the same. Meanwhile, Republican-dominated states are so determined to ignore the majority they are also trying to make it harder for voters to challenge state laws through ballot initiatives. Alice MIranda Ollstein and Megan Messerly of Politico recently wrote about how, after voters in a number of states overrode abortion bans through ballot initiatives, legislatures in Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma are now debating ways to make it harder for voters to get measures on the ballot, sometimes even specifying that abortion-related measures are not eligible for ballot challenges. And yet, in the face of the open attempt of a minority to seize control, replacing our democracy with Christian nationalism, the majority is reasserting its power. In Michigan, after an independent redistricting commission redrew maps to end the same sort of gerrymandering that is currently in place in Wisconsin and Tennessee, Democrats in 2022 won a slim majority to control the state government. And today, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer signed into law a bill revoking a 1931 law that criminalized abortion without exception for rape or incest.

Open for bootleg trading~
Hello all! I am posting my bootleg list here for now as a temporary list until I get my website up and running- I am open to trading! I’m mainly looking for any Cats production- preferably English or Dutch but any musical would be nice to have and expand my collection.

NOTES: Video quality isn't the best, and audio is sometimes on the softer side. Still a very entertaining show.
Anastasia - Broadway - September 6, 2017
FORMAT: (VOBs w/ smalls)
CAST: Christy Altomare (Anastasia), Derek Klena (Dmitry), John Bolton (Vlad), Ramin Karimloo (Gleb), Caroline O'Connor (Lily), Mary Beth Peil (Maria Feodorovna), Zach Adkins, Sissy Bell, Lauren Blackman, Kyle Brown, Janet Dickinson, Constantine Germanacos, Wes Hart, Ken Krugman, Shina Ann Morris, James A. Beauty and the Beast New Zealand April 2006 - Proshot
Format: .VOB w/ smalls

NOTES: Two days before the show closed on Broadway. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

Some people just don't want kids, and often find they're questioned, mistrusted, or even hated for it. The childfree subreddit has become a digital home for 142,000 of them.
Can the internet be a place of respite for people being pestered by their broody parents? Or are they longing for a childfree, separatist world that isolates and misunderstands parents?

Women of Canada! - Women Who Died on Active Service
During the First World War, many Canadian women served the war effort through direct military service. This often meant roles maintaining supplies, driving ambulances, and serving as nurses and hospital administrators. Of those who served Canada in various wartime capacities, 66 women are listed as giving their lives during official military service in the WWI era. Most of these women served within the Canadian Army Medical Corps and the Canadian Army Nursing Service, but others with the Canadian Merchant Navy, the Canadian Military V.A.D., Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, the Newfoundland Voluntary Aid Detachment, and the British Red Cross Society. More on which women below served under which of these branches can be found on Veterans Affairs Canada’s page ‘Lest We Forget Her’. On this International Women’s Day, we invite our readers to take a moment to remember these 66 women who gave their lives in service of Canada during the First World War:

Colin Morgan | Alfred Bosie Douglas
From The Happy Prince website (I think this was written last year)
Colin Morgan is one of the most exciting and versatile young actors working today. His critically acclaimed body of work is exceptionally diverse and, with a number of interesting projects coming up, the next few months promise to firmly establish him as a one to watch.
Colin recently starred in Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins’ production of GLORIA which finished its run at the Hampstead Theatre, Colin took the role of Dean in the play that centred around the offices of a notorious Manhattan magazine. The play also starred Kae Alexander and Ellie Kendrick.
Colin will be seen leading British mystery drama WAITING FOR YOU written by Hugh Stoddart and directed by Charles Garrad. The coming of age feature centres on Paul Ashton who investigates his late father’s increasingly disturbing past. Co-starring Fanny Ardant, the film premiered at the Belfast Film Festival this April.
Last year Colin starred in supernatural BBC One drama THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. The original six part series has been created by Ashley Pharoah and Colin plays protagonist ‘Nathan Appleby’ with Charlotte Spencer playing his wife ‘Charlotte’. Set against the breathtaking back drop of the West Country during the industrial revolution in 1894, the programme focuses on a brilliant young couple who inherit an old farmhouse and move to the isolated corner of England to begin a new life.
In 2015, Colin starred in hit sci-fi drama series HUMANS as ‘Leo Elster’. Based on the award-winning Swedish science fiction drama REAL HUMANS, the series explores the blurring of the lines between humans and machines. Co-starring Gemma Chan and William Hurt, the eight-part series became Channel 4’s biggest original drama hit in twenty years. The second and most recent series TX’D in October 2016.
2015 also saw, Colin star as ‘Frank Shea’ in crime thriller LEGEND with Tom Hardy taking on the roles of both ‘Reggie’ and ‘Ronnie Kray’. Focusing on the relationship between ‘Ronnie’ and ‘Frances Shea’ (Emily Browning) the feature told the story of the identical twin gangsters and their organised crime empire. The feature was written and directed by Brian Helgeland and adapted from John Pearson’s book.
In May 2014, Colin appeared in psychological thriller THE FALL with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. Colin played ‘DC Tom Anderson’ in the second and third series of the hit BBC Two series, which is created, written and directed by Allan Cubitt. Also in 2014, Colin took on the role of ‘Victor Richardson’ in historical drama TESTAMENT OF YOUTH, co-starring Alicia Vikander, Taron Egerton, Dominic West and Kit Harrington. Directed by James Kent and written by Juliette Towhidi, adapted from the autobiography by Vera Brittain, the film is set against the backdrop of World War One where ‘Vera Britten’ (Vikander) abandons her studies at Oxford to become a nurse.
In 2011, Colin starred in independent drama feature ISLAND, based on Jane Rogers’s acclaimed novel of the same name also starring Natalie Press and Janet McTeer. In 2010, he appeared in award winning drama feature PARKED with Colm Meaney. Directed by Darragh Byrne, Colin plays 21 year old stoner ‘Cathal O’Regan’.
Colin played the title role in the fantasy adventure series MERLIN. The programme ran over five series from 2008-2012 on BBC One in the UK and originally on NBC in the US, before moving to the Syfy network. The programme follows a young King Arthur and Merlin growing up in Camelot when Arthur’s father has banned magic. Also starring Anthony Head, John Hurt and Katie McGrath, Colin was nominated for numerous awards for his scene stealing turn: in 2013 he won the National Television Award for ‘Most Popular Male Drama Performance’ and an SFX Award for ‘Best Actor’ the same year, and Variety Club Award for Best Newcomer.
Colin’s work on stage has also garnered critical acclaim. In late 2013 he played ‘Skinny’ in Ian Rickson’s MOJO at The Harold Pinter Theatre opposite Ben Whishaw, Rupert Grint and Danny Mays. Written by Jez Butterworth, the wickedly funny play is set in The Atlantic Nightclub in 1958 and Colin’s portrayed a lowly attendant besotted with nightclub boss ‘Ezra’ (Whishaw).
Also in 2013, he portrayed ‘Ariel’ at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, in the Jeremy Herrin helmed production of TEMPEST starring alongside Roger Allam and Jessie Buckley. In 2011, Colin starred in OUR PRIVATE LIFE at The Royal court Theatre. The black comedy, directed by Lindsey Turner and written by Pedro Miguel Rozo, is set against the backdrop of a Colombian village, and focusing on a respectable family and their efforts to discern truth from slander become fused with a desire for justice. Colin played depressed son ‘Carlos’ in a cast including Ishia Bennison, Clare Cathcart, Anthony O’Donnell in the play.
In 2008, Colin appeared at The Young Vic Theatre as feral heroine addicted teenager ‘Jimmy’ in A PRAYER FOR MY DAUGHTER. Also starring Matthew Marsh, Corey Johnson, Sean Chapman and directed by Dominic Hill, the Thomas Babe penned production is set on the Fourth of July in a downtown Manhattan precinct and is a poetic meditation on the lack of clear boundaries between masculine and feminine, and good and evil.
In 2007, Colin portrayed ‘Esteban’ in ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER at The Old Vic Theatre. Starring opposite Lesley Manville, Dianna Rigg and Mark Gatiss, the production was written by Samuel Adamson and directed by Tom Cairns. In the same year, Colin made his stage debut, while he was still at drama school. He played the title role, the story’s scapegoat hero falsely accused of being accessory to a mass murder in small town Texas, in Rufus Norris’s critically acclaimed production VERNON GOD LITTLE at The Young Vic Theatre an adaptation of DBC Pierre’s Man Booker prize-winning book of the same name.

[Video] Confidence Man teilen neuen Track “Woman”!

I’m a woman of many words, but words do not define me. This is my house that I built with my own two hands and if I so desire, I will burn it down. So don’t call me the spark. I’m the fire and the flame. Ok?”
“Woman” wurde von der Band selbst geschrieben und produziert und von Ewan Pearson (Metronomy, Jagwar Ma, Pet Shop Boys, Jessie Ware) abgemischt. Die Single folgt auf “Feels Like A Different Thing” und den Rave-Hit “Holiday”, der auch von Erol Alkan und Bruise geremixed wurde.

The plot bears some similarities to 1954′s “The Golf Game” (ILL S3;E30), in which Lucy and Ethel are tired of being left out of the boys’ sporting pursuits.
“The Two Mrs. Coopers” ~ November 4, 1950
Synopsis ~ It’s Liz’s birthday and she wants to forget all about it but she doesn’t want George to forget it! George mistakenly thinks that it is his mother’s birthday and buys her present which Liz thinks is for her. But then he realizes that he has invited his mother’s friends over for a surprise party!
[On all known sources, this episode and “Liz’s Birthday” (November 25, 1950) are the same program. It is likely that one or the other has been lost. Because the titles might fit both programs, there is no consensus on which is lost and which is extant!]
“Vacation from Marriage”* ~ November 11, 1950
Basis for "Vacation from Marriage" (ILL S2;E6) of “I Love Lucy”

“Liz Goes to Night School” ~ November 18, 1950

“Liz’s Birthday” ~ November 25, 1950

“Marrying Off Peggy Martin” ~ December 2, 1950
Synopsis ~ Liz tries to play matchmaker for Peggy Martin with one of George’s clients, but both the client and George think that Liz is going after the guy for herself.

“Liz Substitutes in a Club Play” ~ January 6, 1951
Synopsis ~ Liz is determined to play the lead in the women’s club play, even if she has to keep the leading lady from showing up. There’s only one problem: Liz has learned the lines for the wrong play!

“The Cuckoo Clock Conspiracy” ~ January 13, 1951
Synopsis ~ Liz bought George’s Christmas present, a cuckoo clock, with a rubber check, and now she needs to figure out a way to make good on it so the store owner won’t repossess the clock.

“Liz Exaggerates” ~ January 20, 1951
Synopsis ~ Liz’s exaggerations become so bad that George cuts off her allowance until she can prove that she can consistently tell nothing but the truth. George finds her promise is kept, not wisely, but too well.
In order not to be confused with the earlier episode “The Absolute Truth” (January 28, 1949), the script never uses the word “lie” - just “exaggerate”. Both of these episodes were combined for “Lucy Tells The Truth” (ILL S3;E6)
“George is Drafted - Liz’s Baby” ~ January 27, 1951
Synopsis ~ George gets a letter asking him to serve on the local draft board, and Liz thinks he’s been drafted. George thinks Liz’s emotional state is because she is having a baby!

“Liz Hires a New Secretary for George”* ~ March 17, 1951
”Liz and Iris’s Easter” ~ March 24, 1951
Synopsis ~ The boys make a deal with the girls, if Liz and Iris can slim down to the same dress size they wore ten years ago, George and Rudolph will buy each of them a whole new Easter outfit.
