Archer: I'm so sorry for all the stuff I said.
Huth: And for punching me in the face, right?
Archer: No. You definitely deserved that.

SS-GB Modern! AU
Where Archer is an overworked Met CID officer and Huth is this absolute dick of a Defence barrister who keeps torpedoing his cases every time they come to court
And then Archer gets stuck with the Case From Hell (a.k.a R v Spode), and just when he thinks things couldn't possibly get any worse he finds out that Mr Smug Shit in a Wig himself is prosecuting it. So now they actually have to work together, and Archer is FUMING, because this guy keeps bossing him around and spooking the witnesses and making snide comments about the police's charging decisions
...Except it turns out that it's a lot better having that razor-sharp intellect on your side than having to work against it, and maybe he’s not so bad after all, and who knew taking down bad guys together could be so fun?

Genderbent!SS-GB
...I can’t be the only one who’s entertained thoughts about this, surely?
Turning our boys into ladies wreaks havoc with the canon plot though.
So, help wanted (purely out of curiosity):
Any ideas how an genderbent!AU plot could be made to work? Women’s role was really rather limited in those days...
Huth (Odila? Oda?) could accompany her superior (Springer?) to England as his personal secretary; she would probably belong to the so-called “SS-Gefolge“ (= be basically a glorified civilian) -- or if we tweak the timeline a little bit, she could even have a rank in the SS-Helferinnenkorps (est. in 1942)
Archer (Donna? Dorothy? Doris??) is... what? Basically what Sylvia was in the canon? Was her (late) husband the brilliant Superintendent called “Archer of the yard“??
Sylvia (Sylvester?)... is a policeman involved in the resistance?
Harry... would we even need or want to genderbend him? (He would be such a sweet surrogate father to fem!Archer)
How would one insert Barbara (???) into the whole mess?
And the most important thing:
How to insert “just gals being pals“ Archer/Huth into the plot??

I’ve just read "Field Gray" of Philip Kerr. The book is excellent (many thanks to the one who told about this author here). The relationship between Heydrich and Gunter is certainly special:))) Especially the scene where Heydrich sent Bernie to kill a spy to France, but before he took Bernie to his tailor to sew a new uniform for him (as he has to look smart and nice!😂🤦♀️) and even paid for a new uniform.
I just imagine that Oskar, before introduced Douglas to his boss (aka my strict dad Springer) , had bought him new clothes, made him to go to the hairdresser and said: “Do not disgrace me in front of DAD!”😆😆

So I’m conflicted. On the one hand, Huth was a scumbag-trash-Nazi who I don’t really care died. On the other...he had a strong snark game right up until the end.
And the man had a crush on Archer. Which I don’t blame him for...

quick Shame Central q
Centralistas - is Archer’s thing for jazz ever mentioned in the book, or is it just in the TV show? And I have a memory that we either see him putting a specific jazz record on, or he talks to someone (Barbara?) about it - or am I tripping balls? If not, do any of you know which jazz artist? Asking for a fic-writing ‘friend’ who happens to look EXACTLY LIKE ME & who also likes her throwaway references to be spot-on (and who is also angsting over whether Huth would refer to it as “Negro music” and even if he might, whether I should have him doing that in fic? As ‘Nazi crimes’ go I appreciate it’s relatively trivial, but it still sounds so crudely offensive now, I can’t quite steel myself to have him do that. Then again, I’m getting bored with him describing everything outside of the SS-authoriised culturally acceptable lists as ‘decadent’ or ‘perverted’.
In reality I’m procrastinating vs actually getting on with Chapter 6, of course!
